since we're from a death world and "void world" is a distinct option, I don't think we should be from a place that's strictly airless

they could be called the Hua Yuan 1st Exterminator Regiment

or something

I like Hua Yuan as the planet name because it retains Hong Kong's seemingly ironic name
Hong Kong meaning "fragrant harbor" and Hua Yuan meaning "garden"

could be a planet whose populace nuked itself into such a state that only hives are livable

>>45432263

>>45432205
I also don't think they'd work around a proper tyranid hivemind

I think they'd just try to kill the wielder

maybe they just do some looting of their own on planets they show up to help
>>
The last 'roll a chapter' included elf sodomy. I assume none of that heresy will be seen here.
>>
>>45432473
we're a bit too busy here for that

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNeQ1B5zpOw
>>
>>45432384
I like the keep the loot from planets they help.

Also the void born; on a massive ship / hive floating around a planet; thinking it could be a massive hulk that was then cleansed of the nids that had infested it. Now it's a massive hive / naval base; the planet below being strip mined for minerals to supply the shipyards/manufactory centers.
>>
The trophies they take should be the good ole' fashion heads. Plus, sticking together carpace pieces for armor will provide more protection then a flak vest. So you can tell the veterans apart from the new guys by how bulky their armor is. You can tell veteran vehicle squads apart by all the heads they have mounted.
>>
>>45432347
>Hua Yuan 1st Exterminator Regiment
great name, beautiful name! They are the first born sons of Hua Yuan, Hua Yuan Exterminator reigment!

Maybe not nuked, but the planet wasn't too rich in resources to begin with, and they just used up the planet to a near husk-like state. So the main Hive is super big because of fast expansion, but no longer has enough to support itself, so is slowly decaying?
>>
>>45432578
>>45432384
Why not combine these two? They just loot whatever isn't destroyed in the conflict and put it to use.
>>
>>45432619
Yeah I like the use of bug carapace as armor; also helps them infiltrate as they start to look more and more niddy as they become veterans

>>45432551
we aren't voidborn ourselves, though I like the idea of being from a ship that crashed into the planet

maybe a mining ship that crashed and was abandoned that developed into a hive

>>45432584
pic related is Yuán and can go on the shoulder of every unit in the regiment

>>45432578
>>45432619
I really really like that idea
the units slowly getting more and more cobbled together with time and experience only fits the punk motif
>>
>>45432708
I was thinking it as I was thinking they could be specialists in attacking hive ships in (more than likely suicidal attacks) on hive ships so that planets don't get spored and seeded.

The conditions of the hive ships being like organic hives; the hulk that they live on having been semi converted by the nids during their stay they have familiarity with the way in which the hive ships are designed / organised.
>>
>>45432578
so cyberpunk neon cops with elite units covered in predator-style trophies?
>>
>>45432832
Sounds badass enough to me! Also, I'm thinking they're close hive city specialist because back home their hives are in a constant state of was for the few mains resources left on the planet. These guys are the only ones jaded and crazy enough to face nids' in close quarters and win.
>>
>>45432951
What if instead of wars, the hives were all heavily divided into gangs with near constant gang conflict/conflict with the pdf, so they're used to fighting in an urban setting, and probably have been doing it since a young age?
>>
>>45433005
Hey! Yeah, that works! Explains where they got their habit of nicking stuff from the enemy to use! They've been doin' it since they was kids!
>>
>>45433054
the mining bit might explain the cyberpunk aesthetic as well

mining corps became the de-facto government
the planet's atmosphere is partially unlivable because of it's naturally high content of neon

I'm thinking that the orbiting space hulk is probably still not totally explored; teams go in to recover lot gear and arcotek as who knows how long some of the vessels and the debris that has collected around the ships; add in some spice for rpgibg on this desolate land.

Would also explain away any of your choices in weapons yeah squadron 89 salvaged that plasma rifle 100 years ago on a surveying mission; been part of the platoon ever since; even after the 89ers got munched at the battle of midway to repel hive fleet behemoth good thing; ol jimbo snatched it up as we scorched those damn lobsters back into there holes.
>>
>>45434652
The citizens of Hua Yaun are the descendants of a giant mining vessel that crashed into the planet some centuries ago. The ship's officers quickly established themselves as a nobility of sorts as equipment used to survive the void was refurbished to survive in an environment hostile to humans. When contact was eventually reestablished with the larger Imperium, the involuntary settlers, they quickly established themselves as a major provider of the neon that was abundant in the planet's atmosphere.

Living entirely in retrofitted ship wreckage, the planet's population has exploded at such a rate that conditions are considered cramped even among some hivers. As is typical of most hive worlds, a wealthy and powerful noble class lords over a massive and squalid lower class. Warfare between countless gangs plagues the makeshift city constantly and the local nobility funds a sizable PDF to keep themselves and their assets safe.
>>
>>45436312

But yeah, that fits in with the idea that these guys appropriate what they earn from battle
>>
Yeoh Hong is the current Captain-General for the exterminators. He was born into the lower depths of Hua Yaun as an orphan, where he quickly had to develop a keen set of survival skills and premonition in order to survive in the inhospitable environment. Joining a local gang at a young age, Yeon proved to be ruthless and cruel, eventually become the head of his outfit. After a failed raid on a rival compound, his gang was wiped out, leaving him to join the pdf as a means to escape the lower Hive. The skills he learned in his youth translated into a sense for combat lacking in the rest of the corrupted and lazy force. After performing many successful raids, including a cultist sect, he became a captain, where he employed his knowledge of street gangs to successfully combat them. Rising further through the ranks, it was a clear choice who should lead the newly formed regiment.
>>
The dull red battle light of the command post only made the Field Marshalls Praetorian tunic appear a deeper red, like that of blood. "Captain General Hong" he bellowed in high gothic " the Huan Yuan 1st will take the rebel fortification by night fall. The Emperor wills it!"

Rubbing his exhausted face Captian General Hong replied "Sir without armored support I will loose many men".

Hua Yuan 1st Exterminator regiment -Sergeant Rommanda's log

Fire really is a divine gift from The Emperor! The bugs in this Saints damned city caught on to our little tactic of drawing the big bugs off down side alleys to smear'em with out dealing with the main group.

We would have taken some rather heavy losses if the major hadn't called in a favor from one of the other regiments we assisted, and got us a shipment of Hellhounds.

Let me tell you, there ain't nothin better then waken up to the smell of crispy nids'!

The scouring of the moon system of Daethons Reach.

The main industrial and commercial hub was a hive among hives that engulfed the entire moon upon which it was built. One the old centers of trade with a history stretching back to the early days of the First Empire.

Population in the low trillions stacked atop one another like miles tall decks of cards. An entire sectors worth of trade going in and out without rest or mercy. It was the beating heart unimaginable light years.

Then suddenly gene-stealers, gene-stealers everywhere in the tens of millions. By the time help arrived everything was burning, the hives, the ships in orbit the skies even the fabric of space and time as psykers started throwing mind bullets around.

And into this shit the Void Walkers, among many others, descended. They bolstered the broken PDF and were instantly at home in the tangled multistory hive mazes that made conventional maps cry. The unbreathable, toxic smog outside was no concern to them with their home open to near vacuum.

By the end of the campaign the chapter was whittled down to 5% of its origional number of ~10,000. The remnants were so highly valued for their badassery that the newly appointed governor put in a requisition for them to stay and train the next generation of the PDF. It was deemed acceptable by the imperial authorities and so they remained. Also it would not have been economically sensible to send them home with so low numbers.

The gene-stealer beacon was cut off in time and no hive fleet arrived. Dark rumors suggest that inquisition agents stayed behind to see if all the 'stealers were got and track any that got away.

The Regiment was refounded a few months later.

I'm guessing they don't operate that far from their home system if they can avoid it. Probably a lot of drop stuff directly into/on to the Hive

>>45442404
All I've officially written up so far on mine is a little bit about the homeworld. I started on it pretty late last night and didn't write too much. But I don't think it really fits for what you guys have.

>[__] is a frozen-over industrial world, located in the Reductus sector of Segmentum Tempestus. [__] is primarily known for its great deposits of adamantine far below the surface. The climate of [__] is unlivable for humans; on an ideal day, the temperature hardly rises above -50 C, and most of the surface is an uninhabited snow-desert. The few bastions of civilization on the surface are the three sealed "spires" built around the equator, resembling a scaled-down hive; the vast majority of [__]'s population lives underground in a massive network of hives, processing facilities, and warehouses.

>>
>>45444125
How about
>Effectus Ordinis Imperator
Means Enforcement. Order. Emperor
>>
>>45444125
Nullus est instar domus (There is no place like home).
>>
Is there more than one hive on their homeworld or is it just one big hive?
>>
>>45445163
Sounds to me like it's just one, supermassive hive that was made bigger and more broken by the ship that crashed into it.

Probably airless dead wasteland around the rest of the planet... What if it were a moon? The moon itself has valuable resources but is uninhabitable and orbits a gas giant. There's a tidy explanation for why the whole thing is dead, there's simply too little atmosphere. The original hive could be built on-top of a mining pit that goes down kilometers into the surface of hte planet. Gradually as more and more people came a society formed and the hive grew until people started actually dwelling in the upper sections of the mine, creating a nightmare urban sprawl. Then, for extra grimdark the mine dried up and the authorities abandoned it or something leaving the populace to sort its' own shit out. That way the guard regiment could actually be the de-facto police force on the planet as well
>>
>>45445419
I like the idea
>>
>>45445419
I like the idea of that.

A moon of a gas giant out in the far orbits where the sun is just another speck in the cold black sky. It would have an atmosphere if the temperature ever got above bras monkey levels of cold.

The hive is located at the bottom of a naturally formed super canyon at the equator. It was then further deepened by human activity.

The moon is geologically dead and has been for a long time. The deepest levels of the hive are at the level where the world is still warm in the middle.

It's a big maze down there and nobody has a complete or up to date map.

It is said by some of the natives that the oldest parts of the hive are pre-Imperial and they're probably right.
>>
>>45445877
Add to that the fact that approx 1/2 the hive was destroyed or otherwise compromised by a Voidship crashing into it and the survivors simply built around and incorporated the wreck into the hive itself. Shit this place is terrifying, a claustrophobic's worst fucking nightmare on LSD with all the neon and cyberpunk stuff
>>
>>45445976
It was only half of the surface hive.

Vast majority of hive was fine from a structural stand point.

Surface Hive used for in and out of bulk cargo. A ship dropping on to it killed 0.75 billion including those that died later from radiation, fire and vacuum exposure as well as the more normal injuries one would expect to sustain after having a space ship land on your house.

A further 2.4 billion died over the next half a standard year as a result of supply interruption. Starvation and shit going wrong due to mechanical failure in an artificial environment and such.

A further 3 billion died over the next few years due to a virulent flu outbreak that started among a weakened population.

On the whole it wasn't that big of a deal for the hive as a whole. Te hive recovered and it was forgotten about within 10 years except asa curiosity of why most of the Hive-cap-town is made of old star ship parts.

I'm kinda torn about the pink. At the same time, it really fits the theme and 90's feel, but then at the same time a bit too much of /k/ommando. Maybe different sets for parade/field duty?

>If one is to inspect the Tyranid trophies of an Exterminator, a rare thing as they tend to be quite protective of them, they would find that every single one has a uniform hole near the base. This whole is generally used for mounting, but is actually created for an entirely different purpose. The extraction of the Tyranids adrenal glands. The Exterminators are known to produce a wide variety of combat and leisure drugs from the chemicals that can be found therein. Usually taking the form of an iridescent and fine powder, every Exterminator has a unique ritual involving their consumption. Some smoke it, others snort it, a good number inject it, some eat it or mix it with recaf like a sweetner, and some still have figured how to huff it as an aerosol. In any form of administration the combat variet of the Tyranid sourced drugs invariablely increase reaction time, aggression, and even enhanced unit cohesion among those Exterminators who do it as a group. It's withdrawal symptoms are, unfortunately, punishing. Ranging from violent seizures, severe narcolepsy, or even hallucinations of being a Tyranid part of the Hivemind have been reported. This, combined with it's unusual sourcing and the insular nature of the Exterminators has meant the glittering Tyranid Dust has not spread beyond the Exterminators.

what are these Guy's relation to the rest of the imperium?
>>
>>45457966
Pretty distant i would think. They mostly stick to their homeworld as a police force after the initial fighting there and rarely loan out companies as specialized forces and advisors. The mine was abandoned by the imperium and all official forces withdrew so the Exterminators have their hands full with chaos cultists, gangs, civil unrest and any potential remnants of the genestealers
>>

I feel like this is generally reasonable, but the 1st presumably goes off planet whenever their unique expertise is needed; removing the remnants of Tyranid vanguard fleets from hive cities and urban areas. We never really discussed whether they work with Commissars effectively (someone asked about it earlier ITT) but either way I'd expect that they're occasionally sought out for REMOVE BUGS duty.
>>
>>45458049
We only have 1 regiment. We decided earlier that we only have a 1st regiment. So I think that we have the 1st just in general and we lend individual companies or platoons out to other forces as specialists like you said
>>
>>45458076
>We decided earlier that we only have a 1st regiment

Whoops, I guess I missed that part. Fucking autoupdate.

But then yeah,
>end individual companies or platoons out to other forces as specialists
seems reasonable

also we're pretty close to the bump limit, what do?

Dude this is freaking fantastic looking.

Are you the artist that drew this as well?
>>
>>45458247
Nope, that seems much better than my own.

If anyone remembers the threads of a homebrew faction for a freeform roleplaying forum that had rules to make your own faction dependant of the number of users you had in such group to calculate its force. So a group of fa/tg/uys decided to make the Big Bad Evil Empire and i tagged along drawing footsoldiers and knights for them.

I think you either have to go all brown or all blue on the cloth. having it two different colours looks odd

There's always blacklight paint and ink. It looks normal in daylight, but shines fluorescently under UV
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacklight_paint

That way you could have regular-ish looking fatigues that don't annoy the commisariat but pop into neon cyberpunk nightmare tribal patterns in hive-country.

As a side note, the Administratum generally hates it when non-Garrison worlds hold onto their IG regiments (hence PDFs). Most deliberately move them as far away from the homeworld as is feasible so that they don't get too attached to their homeworld rather than doing their duty for the wider Imperium, and IG regiments are usually part of the Imperial tithe. If you wanted a higher than normal amount of IG on the planet, perhaps you could have the PDF constantly cycling into the Guard proper rather than being a separate force - people are recruited into the PDF, train, when the regiments are called up the PDF are put forward first before the rest of the population pool.

I'm not sure if someone has already said but do we have a reason for the neon?

WOuld it be possible to have our Boys using Multicolored Smoke-bombs and Paint bombs in combat to allow their colors to fit in off planet?

I'm thinnking that they are so used to choked enviorments that they fight in the smoke like others fight in the open air, and perhaps use 'Paint shells' in bassalisks to blanket an area they are to guard in their colors, to disorent, draw attention and camouflage If that could work?
>>
>>45462105
Also we're heavily based on Hong Kong so I'm pretty sure we speak a language that is at least similar to mandarin or Cantonese
>>
>>45462182
Chinese is plenty Incomprehensible. I take it we're basing more off modern/cyber punk Capitilist china rather than the People's Army? Will we integrate more ancient Chinese style like the Officer?

>>

They look too hardcore for a socialist shithole like Bolivia. They'd make good right-wing death squads though.

>>45462166

I actually like this idea. When fighting 'nids it doesn't really matter that they're neon-colored anyway. But when fighting disgusting heretic scum, they could do this. For bonus points they could throw quasi-dico lights into places to disorient people, but maybe that's getting too Slaaneshi?
>>

Let's fluff out some languages, since it's a hive world not every one speaks the same.

Voidtounge: Any off world language

Seimun: This language is spoken in the lower parts of the Hive city "Che Hien" (Just making up asian sounding names here).

Freigterus: This small language is spoken by the "freighters" who work on giant trains (like the ones from the space marine game) as they ship goods from the various hives around the planet.

Kung Primarus: This is mostly a written language that is understood by the majority of the population.

Just felt like I needed to flesh out the planet a bit more. Please just ignore this post if this doesn't fit the fluff of the planet and the regiment
>>
>>45462264
We don't need Latin for our native tongue. High Gothic is anglicised (bastardized) latin anyway so everyone with any official capacity speaks that
>>45462324
I'm really liking this. Freigterus needs a better name though, plus there's only 1 hive
>>
>>45462324
Nah man, it's great. After all the Exterminators are supposed to be proud of their homeworld so its normal to flesh out their world.
>>
>>45462324

>>45462324

There can still be trains but they'd be going to shitty underground mines or something, right? Only having one city, which is a crashed ship/based around a crashed ship, doesn't mean you're stuck there forever even if the outside world is a death planet. Presumably they have some means of industry.

lel
>>
>>45462379

>>
>>45462412
The whole point was that the world is completely airless. It's essentially an atmosphereless moon with a single mining base that had a city on-top of it
>>
Is someone good with photoshop/gimp/MS-paint? I had an idea that we can make a map of the planet so we can place various locations. And in turn make the planet feel more "alive" irony .
>>
>>45462455

I understand that, I was trying to imply underground trains though. Mines go up and down and out and diagonally and shit. Anon can still have his trains m8.

Like a death world has to have some means of income. Presumably one single mine that goes straight down can't provide for a gigantic fuckhuge version of Cowloon.

Tio Sko: This is also a very small language, only spoken by around 50.000 or so people. These people are the ones that grow the algee, plants, mushrooms and bacteria that are the main products of the neutrient paste that is a common food item on the planet

I feel that if the troopers revel in the colors and mayhem, Then it gets into heretic. But as is, They use it as a version of Shock and awe, Instead with Shock and Disorient. The troopers themselves still work professionally, Doing the jobs they do just in a Neon-puke environment of their own creation. Kind of like How Working at a amusement park could be seen as 'Wowy-Zowy, Fun and wonder all the time" But in reality the workers are there to do their job and do it well. [Hopefully.]

Perhaps using a version of Fireworks that create a bunch of smoke as mines/traps they set their foes on edge in the dense Hives, While every one else is in a frothing Psychadellic hll hole, they are SSDDing it like always.

To be fair, when China reached its apex level of murdering hapless peasants, they were using the city equivalent of peasants to do it. And that period accounts for basically half of all socialist-caused executions the world over (there were a lot of people to kill in China)

Among other IG, they're a bit bitter about having been essentially left to die on a planet where humans can't survive. That being said, they're also quite proud of their culture and the fact that they managed to survive despite this. They're loud, offensive, and shameless looters of both allied and enemy forces alike. Under all of this, they ultimately want to prove to the rest of the galaxy that they exist and they honestly believe themselves to be the very best at combat in tight quarters and that the Tyranid threat would be under control if they could handle it themselves.

>>45462261
I'd say disorientating lights and smoke bombs would be more like non-standard tactics / cultural weirdness that every IG army picks up and commanders have to account for. If you have Kriegers, expect suicidal charges and trenches. If you have Salvar Chem Dogs expect everything that isn't nailed down to be stolen. If you have these guys, prepare for dayglo grafitti appearing on your motor pool and a total inability to do stealthy night missions.

I don't think having just one regiment works with the size of the Hive and the established facts of the world. Assume you're an Administratum adept working in the tithes department of one of the charter worlds somewhere, probably an entire subsector away. Your entire job is calculating the correct tithes for planets and, wherever possible, setting targets to exploit planets to their fullest. You neither know nor care about the circumstances of the individual planets, only what they can contribute to the greater Imperium.

So we have Hua Yaun. Initially settled for the mineral extraction, it probably still has some material left but its resources are drying up and its not making the old quotas. If its a moon, the gas giant it orbits probably has other materials that can be harvested or processed, but certainly not enough to warrant such a vast population. Its a lifeless, airless moon - it needs food and air to be imported, which means supply routes, which means waste management, which means cost/benefits analysis of outputs from the planet vs imports to sustain the population. When times were good, everything is fine. The supermassive hive population can be fed from the profits of mineral extraction and processing. As the resources dwindle, however, the ledger needs to be updated. Is it worth it to me, the penpusher light years away, to keep the imports going. Would it not be much more tidy to direct the Adeptus Mechanicus to strip what technology they can from the planet, relocate those that can afford to leave, then let nature take its course with the surplus population when you stop delivering oxygen.

Delivering new guard regiments regularly serves several purposes: first, it proves the hive is still valuable and thus deserving of being allowed to live; second, it gets significant amounts of the population off-planet just in case the worst should happen (perhaps allow a mixed regiment?) so at least some of the culture survives.
