This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, shortly after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Chunin graduate named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of trades skill set have brought you far. You have just recently graduated to a Chunin after winning the final tournament, and it is several days after. Your first mission as a Chunin is underway.

Koji runs to the right and avoids your weapons as they silently stick into the mud. He's fast, faster than you. By the time you've landed he appears in front of you, and drops down a fierce elbow onto your shoulder. Your body spins as you hit the ground, too slow to react. The pain is sharp, but nothing too great. It will bruise, but not impede your fighting.

You quickly place your palms on the mud and push yourself up to defend, and Yasu bursts in from the side. She swings her blade horizontally over your head, blasting your hair back and forcing Koji to take a step back.

She plants a foot on your back as you're getting up, planting you back down into the mud as she stabs forward. She yells "Sorry!" as you groan, before getting up in a rush.

Koji sidesteps her thrust, and whips a roundhouse kick into her face. She's sent lurching to the side for a brief moment, and you grab several of the kunai that you'd thrown in the mud and whip them towards him.

The enemy ducks under it, and sprints forward faster than you'd seen before, and even then you were completely incapable of reacting. Is this what a Jounin is like when they're serious?

His foot slams into your chest, a flying kick, and launches you.
>>
>>45444981

You slide through the mud until you hit the cave wall. You're briefly dazed, but stand up after a moment. So, Taijutsu is probably a bad idea for you right now.

You look ahead, and see Takkun and Yasu battling him. Takkun seems to be having a much rougher time, the injury on his shoulder making it astounding to you that he's even still fighting, a single kunai in his good hand. He jumps over a sweeping kick, as Koji drops his body to avoid a horizontal slash from Yasu.

Takkun falls forward, yelling out a war cry. You're surprised to see such ferocity in your otherwise gentle friend's face, but you imagine the adrenaline must be running hot.

Koji manages to trip Yasi with his spinning sweep, but didn't account for Takkun. Once more the Genin strikes him, stabbing the blade of his kunai into Koji's midsection. It clearly clatters against a rib and fails to penetrate an organ, but the frantic speed of the stab still tears at Koji's body and forces him to cry out in pain as red starts to clot his clothing.

The Ex-Chunin leaps high into the air, with Takkun on his back.

He's going to seriously hurt him if you don't do something quick!

After a couple of handsigns, you launch your chakra towards Koji at high speed. You've become quite proficient in directing it at distances with precision, and easily pin him midair.

You don't say the name of your jutsu, as that would somewhat defeat it's purpose. Instead, you let the effect of the False Sound Jutsu speak for itself when you push it as far as you can. The roar the Koji hears must be deafening, because he drops Takkun from sudden fright and twists his body in shock, searching for the source of the shout.

His frightened eyes lock on you as he lands on a tree, and he grimaces. He stands on the side, glued by the Tree Walking Jutsu. He forms a single handsign, and after a moment, you can feel your Genjutsu be dispelled.

Yasu catches Takkun, and rushes into the cave and comes back out. You presume that he's out of commission for this fight, though he managed to score two blows. Koji's face has a red streak, and so does his shirt.

You look over to Yasu, and grumble. "Got any ideas..?"

She frowns. "I have one last resort. But it's just that, a last resort. If you think I should use it, I will."

Turning your head back to Koji, you can see him simply staring down at you still. After a few more moments of this tense silence, he speaks. "You kids, you have no idea what you're doing, do you? What it is that I'm trying to accomplish here, with this camp?"

Yasu grins. "It doesn't matter. You've stolen from someone, and we're here to take it back. The fact that you're also a Missing Nin just means you're coming along too! We're here to do a job, and that's it!"

Koji spits. "Pathetic! You'll never win with an ideal so weak, girl! Why don't you test your lust for material wealth against something as grand as my passions!"

Yasu grumbles. "This guy's a fruit.."

You don't bother to respond to the enemy's taunts, instead choosing to act. You form the handsigns for the Haze Clone Jutsu, and at once there are nearly a hundred clones of you spread out over the camp. Looking up, you meet Koji's glance as he raises an eyebrow.

"Interesting. I'll just have to destroy them all at once, then!"

Quickly, you turn to Yasu. "I need you to pressure him, and try to force an opening! I'll hit him with my poison, and then the fight will be in our favor in no time!"

She nods. "Got it!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pWEtpcFCjo

As she bursts into the air, Koji leaps off his tree towards her. Despite wielding no weapon, he's quite willing to meet her directly in combat. This frightens you slightly, as you move through the clones and mix yourself among them, waiting. Yasu and Koji clash, the former swinging her huge sword diagonally downward.

Koji raises up his arms, and crosses his fists. He uses the metal guards on the back of the hands to block the immense strength of the swing, though it sends him hurtling to the ground.

He slides against the mud and dirt, and again you can hardly see the handsigns he forms. He holds up a single palm, and it glows bright blue for a few moments, shimmering. "Chain Bolt Jutsu!"

He thrusts his palm forward, and a single bolt of lightning rushes out into your a clone. The bolt a first divides into two smaller bolts, striking through the heart of two more clones. Then those branches divide into yet thinner bolts, and so on until a tree lightning branches out rapidly through the crowd. You duck and dodge as the web of lightning approaches you, and your hand is only lightly shocked when the bolt strikes you.
>>
It barely hurts. The bolt must get weaker as it's divided.

Koji grins as his jutsu dissipates. "Well, they're Haze Clones. That's a fairly uncommon jutsu, these days. I have to wonder how they'll fair against my Shadow Clones!"

Yasu lands next to you, and explodes off the ground with her sword hefted high.

Four copies of Koji surround him, totaling five of the criminal. The center one leaps forward to meet her. She swings down vertically, and he sidesteps the attack. However, she puts all of her strength into the strike with a roar, and smashes the ground with enough force to blast away the mud and crack the dry earth. A fissure shoots forth caused by her sword, and a shockwave destroys one of the shadow clones.

Koji strikes her in the jaw with a right hook, but she retaliates with a left.

Apparently, she can just about match him in hand to hand, which is stunning.

You're more concerned with the three remaining clones than their fight, however.

All three of them preform different handseals.

"Running Lightning Jutsu!"

"Static Grenade Jutsu!"

"Lightning Mines!"

First, several more bolts of lightning race through the camp and destroy swathes of your clones before they reform. You have to leap and dodge over the bolts to avoid them, and you nearly walk into the Static Grenade that lands about ten feet away.

The hair on your body stands on end briefly before the explosion hits, and you're sent flying onto your back. If you had been closer to the bright blue ball, you'd certainly be dead.

You look over as you stand up, dazed, and watch the third clone place down mines of electricity on the earth. You imagine they'll shock you if you get close, creating a defensive barrier around themselves.

After we get rid of the clones and face the real Koji.

Can get poison onto Koji with a replacement jutsu? Have him get up close and use his taijutsu, with a simple swap jutsu he gets a face full of poison and he's open for an attack.

Letting Yasu use her last resort while we do...something else useful.

You gather several weapons in your hands, and launch them using the Shadow Shuriken technique. The first volley hides a second in their shadow, hopefully Koji's clones won't detect them. Your clones remain still, blocking sight of even the first volley until it passes through them harmlessly.

The three copies of Koji jump into the air to avoid the attack, and the second volley thuds against a tree in futility.

The clones quickly scan the crowd. "He's somewhere over there!" one of them yells.

Two burst from the trees towards your general direction, and land nearby. The third simply waits on one of the two trees, watching. They're trying to draw you out, and they're going to do it quickly unless you come up with something.

The two in the crowd form handsigns, and state the names of their techniques. "Lightning Style: Chain Bolt Jutsu!"

With expert accuracy, the two clones fire off a rapidly dividing bolt of lightning towards you from both ends. The bolts branch out several times, not nearly as many as last time but enough to cover an area of about ten feet in diameter.

Walls of lightning threaten to crush you from both sides. What do you do?

You kick off the ground using Shunshin, and dash out of the way of the following explosion of lightning. The heat on your back sends you tumbling, and you hit the mud harshly before rolling to your feet. Wasting no time at all, you draw a senbon with a bell attached and stick it into some of the firmer ground you can find, on the blood soaked battlefield.

With your free hand, you draw five kunai. The other holds onto the wire as chakra flows through it, your one and only hope. The clones spot you and dash forward, and you fling the first of the blades towards the one on the left.

He easily leans out of the way, but you lob the second knife in an arc before whipping your hand forward for the third. The arc of the first blade causes the time traveled to lag in time with your second straight throw, covering two points at once. The clone of Koji deftly ducks under the second knife, but must sloppily scramble in the mud to avoid the second as he spins out of control.

The other clone rushes towards you still, and the chakra on the string is only a quarter of the way there. You launch your second to last kunai, and he leaps over it and throws several of his own.

You flip the weapon in your hand and block each attack, and grit your teeth in desperation as he charges you. The chakra is racing down quickly, but it's not going to make it in time. Just when you're about to abandon it, a voice calls out from the cave of the mountain nearby.

"Starch Syrup Capture Field!!"

A sticky white substance is sprayed in front of you just as the clone of Koji plants his foot, and when his fist shoots backwards you simply lean back. The air hangs still for a moment before you thrust forward, and stab into the clone, destroying it.

Takkun, barely standing, grins from the mouth of the cave. You call out a thanks, but the remaining clone of Koji is almost upon you as it leaps and throws down several shuriken before falling with a kick.
>>
>>45447430

You block the shuriken, but it looks like they were simply meant to leave you open for the kick. You grimace as it's about to impact your head, but a bright blue flash precedes a puff of smoke, and the clone is gone.

Standing several feet in front of you is Naota, a bright blue aura of electricity surrounding him and his oddly straight katana.

He looks back, and across the field you can see Yasu being desperately pushed by blasts of lightning. She looks worn down, blocking them with her sword as well as she can. Naota cracks his neck. "Your Paralyzing Bells Jutsu. Is it successful, yet?"

At that moment, the link is complete. You focus on directing the chakra through the soundwaves into Koji's ears only, to leave him vulnerable. "That's right.."

Naota nods. "I'll join Yasu. Once he's caught, he's ours."

He vanishes in a blur.

Cont.
>>
You look over at Yasu and Koji battling, and you can hear the latter ranting on and on. "You Leaf shinobi, you've no idea of the destruction that you'll bring!! All of you, all the hidden villages are nothing but harbingers of war! I've SEEN it!"

He clashes with Yasu, holding his kunai up against her gigantic sword and keeping even with here. It's astounding, despite his shaking arm. She grits her teeth and digs in her heels. "One day, you'll all-!"

Yasu steps away, and Koji is frozen in his current position. "W-what!? What's happening?!"

Naota appears next to the bloodied Yasu, and places his hand on the flat of her sword. "He's frozen, thanks to Takeshi. Let's end this."

Her blade is coated in lightning, thanks to his jutsu. She holds it up and smiles, thrusting it forward as both her and Naota leap. The lance of energy pierces Koji's chest, and she swings the blade directly up to cleave him in half. The scent of charred flesh fills the air from the lightning, and his blood pours out, dark.

Koji's headband was thrown off of his head, and clatters against your feet. You pick it up, and look down in surprise.

The air is quiet for a few long moments. Takkun chuckles, holding his wounded arm. "Did we win?"

Naota wipes the blood off of his katana, and withdraws it. Yasu does the same for her sword. "Seems like it."

"Yasu, Takkun, you guys should let me heal you."

Naota nods. "That's right. Sensei will be on his way soon, he was on the winning side of the fight when I left. Two guys go inside and I'll keep a lookout for him, here. Investigate the orb if you want, too."

Yasu exhales sharply, and lumbers into the cave. Takkun follows her as well, limping slowly. As you step in, you ask them to lay down on the stone next to one another. You decide to start with Takkun, as he only has a couple injuries despite them being more severe. You begin by healing the lightning wound on his shoulder, though it's slow, painstaking work. Yasu grumbles.

"..Hurry up will ya? This stone hurts."

You keep focused on your work. "I'm almost done. I'm only going to be able to do so much, really. Stabilize and get you back on the read to real healing, for anything that isn't just a surface wound. How are you holding up?"

She checks herself. "Got some bad bruising in the gut, as well as a shock on my midsection here. Got cut fairly deeply on the leg, and another cut above my right brow."

You chuckle. "You managed to go toe to toe with him though, huh?"

Takkun smiles. "Yasu's the toughest Genin I know, when it comes to brute strength. Gets it from her dad."

You finish healing Takkun, and take care of Yasu next. Your eyes tilt upwards as you finish, and glance at the orb resting on the velvet pillow.

You stand, and begin to walk over to it, oddly memorized. Yasu sits up and tells you thanks, but you can't hear her. You're being called.

Cont.
>>
You lurch forward, and place both of your palms on the surface of the orb. At once your reflection is distorted, and your vision falls into the swirling picture deep within the orb. Your mind bends from the experience, suddenly flipped onto it's back and riding a metaphysical luge board down the tallest hill in the neighborhood of the universe. Stars race in front of your eyes as you struggle not to yell, the only sensation that you can feel being your palms on the cool surface of the glass orb, despite this having nothing to do with what you can see.

Visions slingshot across your mind. Pictures of flowers, and various herbs. One located in the north, another in the south, one in the east, and another in the west. All in the land of fire.

The orb rejects you and you're blasted onto your back by a flash of light and sent skidding across the room.

You flip up, shocked, eyes wide. Sarasu grabs your shoulders. "Son, are you alright!? What happened?? You've been stuck like that for an hour!"

It must be true, because your body is insanely sore and stiff. Your head throbs, but one thing remains strong. Visions of four flowers, spread across the land of fire.

The orb. It showed you a vision of them. But why?

You look up at Sarasu, confused and unsure of how to explain yourself.

"The orb it..showed me..plants?"

Yasu, her arms crossed, raises an eyebrow. "Huh??"

Naota adjusts his glasses. "He may be slightly delusional. We should really wait to question him later."

>>
>>45450773
no they're flowers

they smell good
>>
>>45450837
How good?
>>
>>45450837
Are they pretty?
Do they grow in absurdly harsh environments?
>>
>>45450868
nothing special

>>45450876
yeah, they're pretty. they only grow in specific places though. Not anything particularly harsh
>>
>>45450890
Are the places they grow special?
>>
>>45450905

if you consider rare flowers special, yes
>>
>>45450890
>Not anything particularly harsh
Damn. I was hoping for some crazy shit like "only grows on the inner edge of the caldera of an active volcano" so we could use them in the greatest spaghetti spill this world has ever seen towards Best Girl.
>>
>>45450922
I hope they don't grow in places like the home of certain summoning contract beasts.
>>
>>45450949
that'd be a good idea, but I'd need to make another summon option to have 4
>>
Wait, I got it.

The Orb wants to thank us for rescuing it from Psycho McNutjob, so it's showing us the way to making the worlds most bitchin' bouquet.

Now we just need to decide who to give it to.
>>
>>45450991
What options do we have so far?
>>
>>45451003
>implying they're not rare herbs and spices
>implying this won't become ninja chef quest
>>
>>45451029
Well, I want you guys to have some time to think about which of the three choices to make, because it's important.

Your choices are Owl, Tiger, and Rat.
>>
>>45451869
Sounds good. Although tiger seems like a baaaad idea considering. No raven?
>>
>>45451869
I'm good with all of those, I'm sure you can make them all kickass
>>
>>45451905
nah, owl over raven

you'd also be surprised with how in-tune you are to tiger-clan behavior too

remember these aren't normal animals. They're clans of ancient animal spirits, basically.
>>
>>45451981
If you wanted a 4th animal you could do mantis, hidden amongst the leaves on a tree, until prey is found the they're fast efficient and deadly with those talons of theirs.
>>
>>45451981
Well when you kill and then skin a tiger to wear it's skull as a cap, you kinda earn it's power.

Coulda ate the thing's heart too.
>>
>>45452008
only 3 choices because reasons
>>
>>45450922
At least we can finally interact with Ino and poisons without being distracted by waifufagging.
Still, I want to see tenten's reaction when we guts Mari

>>45452008
Intelligent mantis seems farfetched
>>
>>45452033
I commend you for sticking to your guns
>>
>>45452054
well, I have my reasons for making these 3 animals the 3 choices available

they all relate to you in some form or another
>>
>>45452033
Going out on a limb
Owl- Cerebrality, terrorism, stealth via hit and run
Tiger- endurance, perseverance, carnage on the field of battle
Rat - stealth, ruthlessness, able to do more with less
>>
>>45452115
My favorites in order to far are Owl, Rat, and then Tiger.

I'd have to meet them and learn about how chill they are to make a decision though.
>>
>>45452145
Well, for two of the choices, there are Sages who currently hold the scrolls that you will need to find. Another one of the choices is acquired through a more unusual method.

You'll learn more about all three over time.
>>
>>45452145
same list for me really, I do agree we need to meet n greet before committing though.

>>45452170
I can almost guarantee tiger has a sage. Meaning it's either Rat or Owl. Oddly enough I think Rat having a sage is more likely.
>>
>>45452224
Impressive guesses, you'd be right. Since you got it I'll tell you that the owls do in fact not have a sage holding their scroll, or a human representative. Nor have they for a very long time.
>>
>>45452273
Given the shonen-esque nature of the series, Tigers were a shoe in. Rat and Owl would be less well known, but Owls as bird would be eclipsed by other avians and generally are rarely seen in the first place do to their solitary nature, and are creatures of the wild. Rats are fairly unique in the ubiquitousness, can live anywhere, and are far from solitary. It'd makes sense for them to have a sage since tey could very well live in a city and are social creatures by nature. I imagine we'd have to make a long journey to the owl home, after figuring out where they lived by lore diving in the library and putting together clues.

>>45452329

This is gonna be so rad.
>>
>>45452329
I'm still on Team rat, Owl might be too involved of a side quest. I do like all three options though
>>
>>45452353

I'm not the anon you replied to, but I personally would prefer Owl or Rat.

I like Owl for the obscurity, and Rat 'cause they'd be cool for an animal used by the MC.

Tiger is cool, but the other two are more underused, I think.

Though this is me saying this without any real knowledge of what sidequests we'll need to do, or how easy it'll be, or what Takeshi will get with each side, etc.
>>
>>45452414
I'm with you for the same reasons, also a giant Wan Shi Tong or Master Splinter would be rad
>>
>>45452414
I like Owl over Rat but both are acceptable. I can imagine IF we find the Owl's we'd find lost jutsu and get no small amount of notoriety from either finding a lost or making a new summoning contract. Tiger while matching his fighting spirit, doesn't match his fighting style. Rat and Owl do.
>>
>>45452353
Team Owl superior. If only because of this stuff.

Yup.

Or the owl leader turns out to be pic related.
>>
Reminder Owls eat Rats
>>
>>45452534
Reminder that they don't, Owls eat mice. Rats are too large to swallow whole
>>
Mini any hints as to what kind of jutsu the summons use?
>>
>>45452677
well, no clan only focuses on one thing, but you can imagine some clans focus more towards certain areas

it's more up to what summon specifically that you bring out. They're individuals
>>
>>45452708
Neat
>>
>>45452708

Run more then.
>>
>>45452708
Hope you can do some fillers after we become chuunin . I really want to see our genin's friends and their parent's reactions.
What did we do with the cash anyways?
>>
>>45451869
>Owl, Tiger, and Rat.
I only see one option there. Rat is so far ahead the other two that they might as well not exist.
>>
>>45453050
>Hope you can do some fillers after we become chuunin . I really want to see our genin's friends and their parent's reactions.

Agreed.
>>
>>45454024

Rat is my favorite, too, but if Owl gives us ancient forgotten techniques, then I'm all in for that one.
>>
>>45454834
The summoned creatures will ALL have sagely elders among them that can teach us ancient techniques.

Owl's might be more secret due to having no human connection or sage.

But Owls need somebody to love too
>>
>>45456380
secret doesn't always equal powerful, or useful.
>>
Well, if we do go with owls, we'll have the chance of discovering long-lost jutsu and techniques specific to the owls.

Nobody will see it coming.
>>
>>45456648
Not to mention no small amount of notoriety for finding a lost contract.
