I hope you guys can find this, as it appears the last thread was archived so fuck me right?

Here is the last thread, for those interested, as well as the first two threads

The order is first, second, and third thread in ascending order

>>
Nuther bump, have too. Won't be able to in a couple hours! Guys come on!

I'm gonna link this(or the next threade if this gets archived) to the 1d4chan page, so you guys can find it
>>
So it looks like we've got a lot of characters up now. Next is to finalize the timeline?
>>
basically thats next on the list yea, a finalized timeline
>>
Well timeline and all the writefaggotry INVOLVING our characters! And more minor ones, and stuff from other perspectives, basically timeline and then all the writefag for reaalsy
>>
Maybe we could expand a little on their relationships with their homeworld or other Imperial forces? I know they have no close allies, but why is that? Have they butted heads with any other institutions besides the Inquisition or other astartes?
>>
>>45451533
I imagine Imperial Guard commanders are hesitant to let them near their men, similar to the flesh tearers. Not sure about the sororitas

Hey, lets get some more specific examples of stuff like this.

Incidents with Inquis, incidents with other astartes, incidents with Sororitas

If this is a fall(or redemption) we need some build up

Will brainstorm some ideas now
>>
ok gotta sleep now... hope the lads can find this and keep it from archiving.... OP is now sleep... don't forget to bump this laddies
>>
Trying to do a little drawfagging (not so good at it) - is there anything visually unique about our Knights? Like particular armor set they prefer or iconography? Outside of the hearts and power fists?
>>
>>45452514
get creative with it dude, there's a lot that we haven't thought of so you have a lot of freedom
>>
>>45452563
Will do. I might also try my hand at a few different possible chapter badges 'cause I'm still not entirely satisfied with the bloody chunk of beef-fist we have now
>>
>>45452596
I feel ya. It looks like just a hunk of flesh instead of a heart, and there's a lot that can be played with in terms of theme
>>
>>45452596
>>45452642
yeah there's certainly room for improvement in it, it also lacks color
>>
>>45451533
It might be because they're bastards who steals the hearts of dead monsters
>>
>>45452642
>>45452683
Right, I'm tired, just kind of went stream of consciousness on a lot of these

Drew inspiration (fucking stole) from the Imperial/Crimson Fists, Iron Hands and Lamenters for these, messing around a lot to keep the gauntlet in and incorporating the heart icon. Of these I liked the one of the heart on the back side of the gauntleted fist. Also tried an idea one had about the heart having half of it replaced with machinery with cogs and wheels and shit

Excuse the shitty quality, hopefully someone with some talent in like Illustrator can do something with these if they like them
>>
>>45453910
Also took a shot at drawing a chaplain

The big spikes I see as being like the tusks of some kind of animal taken out among the tundra, big wooly hogs or horns of some yak, something unique without going full mammoth

I think it might be interesting to discuss some of the fauna of Ashardalon.
Though the timeline seems like a more pressing issue right now.
>>
>>45456013
Sounds interesting to me

But yea I should have a rough time line up in a couple of hours.
>>
ok here is the rough timeline

123 M39 - Cardinal Knights Founded, Alma Escura named first chapter master

256 M39 - Alma Escura begins to hear the voice of a previously unknown Greater Daemon of Khorne, who leads him down a path to chaos

256 - 304 M39 - The time in which Alma Escura was influenced by the Daemon, a time of many great victories for the Chapter. Master of Sanctity Puro Corazon begins to become suspect of Chapter Master Escura and the chapters long string of victories, seeing many strange patterns and coincidences arise from the conflicts.

304 M39 - The great celebration: A celebration is held by chapter master Escura to celebrate 48 years of glorious victories for the chapter. At this celebration he declares the Imperium unfit for their protection, at which the Master of Sanctity exposes him as a willing Daemon host and follower of Khorne. The chapter quickly turns in on itself and Puro Corazon does battle with Alma Escura, who as Puro exposes him and declares him a traitor is turned into a Daemon Prince. Corazon manages ti kill Alma by ripping out his Daemon heart and traping the Daemon by taking the heart into his own chest. He is nearly killed by the effort and damage from the fight and is interred within a Dreadnought sarcophagus and declared Chapter Master once the Traitors are culled.

500 - 507 M39 - Siege of Tellarix(check wiki)

237 M40 - Scouring of Goulfbadd (check wiki)

Alright we now have a rough timeline upon which to place events and work lore into... criticisms?
>>
Ok with that, we REALLY need to hammer out the wording of the prophecy

In the last thread it was suggested the tribal story it is based on involves 'A heartless warrior' who could entail Old Ultra or Puro Corazon.

So far 'A heatless warrior' is all we have... lets start brainstorming, ideas? I think the easiest way for us to do this would be to decide just WHAT enemy of mankind in revolves around and then muck it up and make it SUPER ambiguous
>>
File: bludthurstur.jpg (143 KB, 492x849)
143 KB
143 KB JPG
>>45457567
Well, the prophecy could have been referring to a 'creature of rage' coming to Ashardalon.
This would ofcourse refer to the greater daemon that would gain control over Alma Escura.
In essence, the prophecy would make itself come true.

Not sure how this would tie into the whole 'heartless warrior' thing.
>>
I've taken a glance a this and it looks pretty good so far. I might do some writefagging later today.
>>
>>45457728
well the problem with that is tht the prophecy would have happened already, in fact right after their founding

While I suppose we could do that, it sorta feels like an anticlimax, of course it could be interesting if it had happened and no one realized it but I'd rather it nor have happened yet
>>45457745
Yay! I hope you do brother, aand I can't wait to read it

I'm also re-writing Corazon on 1d4chan because what was previously info on him works better as the 'traitors from within' fluff

>>
>>45457178
I though we said last thread that Escura was slain sometime around the middle of M40?
>>
>>45459206
No someone suggested that not knowing the full story. We can't have our current chapter Master be super old AND have escura die in m40, besides escura was our first chapter Master so that didn't make sense anyways

It was a suggestion by someone, but was not adopted

We could do that it just requires a big change to the fluff and makes our chapter Master less mysterious and the Inquisition more likely to straight up murder us

>>45459519
Okay, just wanted to check. It that case it looks great

M41.688: The Defence of Cayrel - After hearing reports of worlds descending into madness in the wake of the Space Hulk, the 5th Company of the Cardinal Knights under the command of Captain Salaun Moisan move to the Hulk's next projected appearance, the Cayrel System.

Upon arriving in the system, the chapter begin to try an uncover any agents of this madness working ahead of the Hulk. No leads are found until Scout Squad Gough discover a Chaos Cult of Tzeentch operating on the Hive World of Cayrel III. After a swift but brutal battle, the Gough uncovers evidence of multiply cults operating across the system. With this grave news, a message is sent back to Ashardalon to report their findings and request reinforcements.

At the same time, the chapter moves to destroy the most powerful cults across the system, with several strike teams launching attacks on multiple cultist positions. At the cultist HQ on Cayrel I however, Moisan's team discovers some sort of ritual taking place at the base. As they move to halt the foul sorcery however, several deamons are pulled into the base, who begin attacking both the Knights and the cultist summoning them. After a costly battle, the deamons are eventually slain and the ritual stopped.
>>
>>45461672
Meanwhile, on Cayrel VI, Chaplain Megalos' team finds a Chaos Sorceror at their target, and while the rest of the team fight of the cultists, Megalos duels the Sorceror at another ritual sight. This time however, the Knights succeed in stopping the ritual from being compleated, and manage to learn the name of the Space Hulk, the Enteral Paradox, home of the Tzeentch Warband The Watchers Of The Void.

After their raids have been completed, Moisan learns that their reinforcement will no be arriving until after the Paradox reaches Cayrel. With this knowledge, the Captain plans a daring gambit. While the systems SDF and Knights' own ships blast the Hulk with everything they have while ensuring that no ships leave it, he will insert his entire force of Marines onto the Paradox with the intent of keeping its occupants from accomplishing their goals.

No sooner has the plan been finalised, then sensors indicate that the Space Hulk has entered the system. With little time to lose, the 5th Company launch their gambit. Despite the efforts of the Paradox's defense, including several Helldrakes, the Knights successfully land in the Space Hulk.

Having made it inside, the Company moves quickly, knowing that the Paradox could leave at any moment. After fighting their way to what they believe to be the Watchers main base of operation on board the Hulk. When they arrive however, they fine themselves facing a trap, with one of the Watchers commanders, the Sorceror Phomus, withing for them along with a number of traitor Astartes. He reveals Moisan that they plannedall of this, with the Warband's base being on the other side of Paradox and half of the SDF begin to turn their guns on the loyalists.
>>
>>45461683
Enraged, the Captain orders his Marines to attack as he charges the sorcerer, determined to not allow the psyker to have the last laugh. He soon finds himself outmatched by the heretic. Seeing this Chaplain Megalos attempts to lead his Honour Guard to Moisan position, but is unable to reach him in time, with the Captain slain as Megalos breaks though Phomus' guards.

Seeing his commander killed, the Chaplain engages the Sorceror himself, and after fighting of the heretic's magics, if successful in avenging his fallen Captain. Having earned their pyrrhic victory, Megalos orders the remaining marines back to their Thunderhawks for extraction.

As they begin to take off, their reinforcements arrive, including the Battle Barge Ashardalon's Pride. With these new forces, the tide is turned on the traitorous SDF forces, for whom no quarter is given. The Watchers however escape after the reinforcements arrive, perhaps sacred off by the might the Knights have brought with them, perhaps simply leaving after completing their objective.

After the 5th Company joins their reinforcements, it is decided that due to his avenging of Captain Moisan, that Megalos should be promoted to Chaplain-Captain and take command of the 5th Company, where he makes his first order to begin purging the Cayrel System of any taint the Watchers may have left behind.

Last bump before bead guys.

I'll be back in a few hours, after I have slept

Keep this thread alive, come up with fluff, improve what we have ,writefag or just make sure to bump the thread.

Ok OP is sleep
>>
Not OP here
I'll be adding some of the new stuff to the wiki page later today.
I think we need to set ourselves some concrete goals here, that tends to get discussion going.
>>
>>45472545
Not sure if it is entirely related to this, but do we have an idea of what the chapter's view on un-augmented humans is?
>>
>>45472662
They're a brutal chapter, but they're not Iron Hands successors, so they don't praise dem cybernetics.
If with un-augmented you mean regular humans, then I imagine that they do not particularly look down on them, but also do not care a great deal about individual lives. They are no Marines Malevolent, but they're also not the Salamanders.
>>
>>45472762
So sort the standard view of civilians Marines have, they're there and so long as most of them survive we did a good job.
>>
>>45472762
Tis correct, we may be brutal and savage, but never has a brother harmed a human on purpose

>>45472545
I agree, we need a couple of concrete goals, so let me set a few

1.Lets pin down armaments for the dreadnoughts, there were suggestions but noting was agreed upon and I'd like to get this out of the way

2. Lets make our force organisation chart, we don't need it drawn but we should have it if not by today by tomorrow

3.We NEED the Prophecy, written out, long or short, we just need it written and decided

Those are our current goals, lets try to keep discussion about one of these three things until they are resolved
>>
Could all 3 of my HQ's be Knight Errants or can agents of the emperor not be compulsory HQ's?
>>
>>45474350
... I... what? Not what I meant by a force organisation chart!

I mean like the chapter chart of all thee companies and the captains, numbers, titles and such! Not a literal force org chart for the wargame

Also what do Knight Errants have to do with any of this?
>>
>>45474350
Wrong thread?
>>
Btw there was short thing on the talk page of 1d4chan

For those still confused, Puro Corazón is more of a legendary figure and a relic than an active chapter master, who slumbers most of the time due to both his advanced age and the daemon heart in his chest. He is awakened from particularly important battles but is still little more than a very dangerous war machine, and the chapter council and captains still lead the grand strategy.
>>
>>45474157
I guess this relates to the 2nd point, but what is our combat doctrine against vehicles and such, as we don't have Devastators? Like do we have some tactical squads with Lascannons, or are tanks something we leave to our own motor pool?

Oh also, what would the composition of the Battle Companies be as we are missing Devastators. Would it be 7 Tactical to 3 Assault, or would their be more of the latter?
>>
>>45475717
As an addendum to this, what is our stance on special weapons?
>>
>>45475098
Still though, would it be too much of a problem to change it from 1500 to 1100?
I mean, I understand why it's 1500, but I can also understand why some people have a problem with it.
Would it even really change anything?
>>
>>45475717
>>45475732
Well I imagine the dreads weapons(melee based I'm sure) will probably shred armor pretty well. Also yea, mostly it will be their own armour like predators and such. Also heavy wepaons aren't banned(I don't think) I imagine Heavy bolters and anti personnel aren't often used, but a lascannon or rocket launcher or lasma cannon in a tactical squad for dealing with armour isn't to far fetched, so such measures are probably deployed against vehicle heavy opponents

As for company compositionn I think th 7-3 ratio makes sense, as even tactical marines are heavily geared towards melee with their power fists and chainswords they wouldn't need more than 1 more assault squad

>>45475839
A change from 1500 to 1100 I suppose would not change TO much, but we would need to change the dates listed, it wouldn't have been the first chapter master as this would be about 4 or 5 centuries after the founding but Is sppose taking a few hundred years off and some changess to the fluff wouldn't change to terribly much, my problem was moving to just aa scant few centuries before current cannon, as then we have a few problems.

Such as the recentness of it takes a lot of mystery away(relative recentness, its only like 2 marine generation to my knowliedge)and the fact it exponentially increases the likeliness of inquis purge of the chapter, as a fair amount of it tuned traitor... but if the general atmosphere is that it should be changed we can change it
>>
>>45476056
Yeah, I think the that the heavy weapons might work something like this;
Multi-Meltas, Plasma Cannons & Missile Launchers - Not too many as they destroy hearts to easily
Grav-Cannons, Heavy Bolters, Heavy Flamers & Lascannons - Average amount as they can only destroy hearts if not used with care
>>
>>45476056
I do not think the Inquisitorial threat becomes too much greater with a 400 year change. Whilst keeping the original age would be more convenient, having a chapter master older than Dante just turns up the special snowflake dial a little bit too much.

The most important thing we should strive for is fitting in with other chapters, both with the official and the good fan-chapters. Giving our chapter something better than a 'real' one is just bound to turn people off to joining our discussion.
>>
>>45476468
He's got a point - we've just gotten to the point where people have stop coming in to shit on us and scream "HERESY"
>>
>>45476468
Hmmm... You have good points. This will require a LOT of date changing... like a shit ton, some title changes, some character changes, and means we need to fluff the earlier years of the chapter a lot more

But... yea, I suppose an age change is fine, I certainly grow tired of 'mary sue' and 'special snowflake' and I'm guessing such a large age change is a good way to stop at least some of it.

Though... should we keep old ultra then? He is also even older and almost entirely cybernetic but... stll
>>
I will start editing now. What number chapter master are we changing alma Escura to? Also what time are we currently in? Late or middle M40?
>>
>>45476637
Maybe 8th, to fit in with the whole Khornate thing
>>
>>45476655
As in the current year is 008. M40? Or that the whole Alma Escura problem began or ended on 008. M40?
>>
>>45476726
I think he meant like Escura is the 8th Chapter Master?
>>
>>45476726
Ignore this, it is stupid, as I am stupid
>>
>>45476742
Yea, just got that

Moving on we need new dates, starting with when any writefag FOLLOWING the Alma Escura incident, as in our current year or years when writefag involving the chapter master being Puro Corazon the dreadnought Master of Sanctity?
>>
>>45476577
I wouldn't know what to do with him. I like him though.
Perhaps we could make the chapter as a whole younger?
>>
>>45476772
Wait hold on, could we not have Ashardalon being attack by something in M41 and have Corazón used during their defense of the world?
>>
>>45476846
Absolutely! Feel free to writefag this up! It sounds really interesting

>>45476781
I suppose we could, but we ROLLED M39, and changing a roll so far after the fact kinda feels... weird you know?
>>
BTW, sometyhing we never decided, where IS Ashdaralon? What is our home sector?
>>
>>45476936
We don't have a name for the sector, though it is in the Segmentum Ultima near the Dominion of Storms.
That's what the wiki says anyway,
>>
>>45476961
Right, so we didn't travel far from our parent chapter(even thoguh I'm sure the Ultrasmurfs don't invite us to too many gatherings)

Should we make a sector?
>>
>>45476961
Not to sound horribly ignorant, but what is The Dominion of Storms? I'd like to consider myself fairly well verse in 40k lore, but have never come across it before.
>>
>>45477069
Sounds like another Warp Rift, similar to the Maelstrom I'd imagine, or a sector/system heavily influenced by the warp? An area where its malign touch is felt heavily?
>>
>>45476916
Okay, don't be expecting it tonight though, I get the feeling I'll end up running long with it
>>
>>45477227
Is fine, I am patient, but remember the importance of waking up corazon, its like eldar getting their Avatar of Khaine awake.

Can't wait to see it!
>>
Lets talk about dreadnoughts now, nail it down as this is one of the goals

Someone suggested earlier they be like Furioso Dreadnoughts, with giant power claws... I personally feel like we can come up with something better, unless this idea is liked

Suggestions?
>>
>>45477481
Well would the role our dreads fulfill the same as others, being our primary means of heavy weapons deployment?

Primarily our specialty leans towards close-combat still, so power claw or power fists I think ought to be common. Or would they only be used as last resort? In which case, maybe giving them something like assault drills to really cut a swath through enemy lines when they threaten to overwhelm infantry?
>>
>>45477481
Wouldn't Dreadnaught with gear for melee be kind of weird, seeing as how they can't get new hearts anymore. I think they should be used for Heavy Weapons
>>
>>45477804
Well we have other ways to deal with armor at long range, like tacticals with heavy wepons and our own tanks, I'd imagine Dreadnoughts are what we throw at either a strong defensive position that are particularly difficult to break, or as a melee option for dealing with heavy armor, OR as a way to shore up defenses

Most commonly yea I imaagine they wield power fists and power claws, but it also depends how many of them we have in regards to how they are used

I imagine they are just the catch all fix for particularly tough strategical problems, so they are SUPER heavy shock troops(if you can even describe them as troops)
>>
>>45478018
I feel there is probably a mix of melee focused and heavy weapons focused dreads, cause they are still Cardinal Knights who enjoy little more than wading in and 'Rip and Tearing' shit up.

I do imagine some would be fielded with heavy weapons to halp make up for the lack of devastators, most commonly weapons that are fielded against tanks or less likely to ruin hearts like Plasma cannons, Dreadnought flamers(probaly most common non-melee weapon), and lascannons and Multi meltas
>>
>>45477227
>>45476846
BTW, what enenmy were you thinking of having attack Ashdaralon? I have a suggestion if you have not already decided
>>
>>45478110
Don't think anyone has anything in mind. Fire away.
>>
>>45478110

>>45480181

>>
>>45478056
As a little sidenote, what do you guys think of a captain with a preference for flamers?
It's just that the idea of nicknaming his the "Heartburner" is funny to me.
>>
>>45479781
I say Eldar... Yes I want to see an Avatar of Khaine fight the chap mast... yes cause I think it is cool... hope you are still herer
>>
>>45480885
Avatar of Khaine vs Dreadnought with an Evicerator.
Hot damn.
>>
>>45480885
>>45480987
Yeah, that's got my vote. What brings the Eldar n to their neck of the woods though? Did Alma commit some horrible attack on one of their Craftworlds in the past?
>>
>>45480485
I don't mind it, if other people likeep it then ill try and fluff it out for you if you like
>>
>>45481025
What is it that usually attracts Eldar?

By the way, I remember the chapter particularly hating Orks. So maybe the prophecy alludes to an Ork invasion, but it's the Eldar who will manipulate them into coming to Ashdaralon?

Because the only thing more awesome than a Dreadnought vs an Avatar of Khaine, is a Warboss getting involved and it becoming an Astartes-Eldar-Ork brawl.
>>
>>45480885
Eldar, huh. I was thinking of doing Tyranids, but if enough people what this the ill switch, I'm not the far into it anyway.

>>45493162
I just suggested eldr cause Avatar of Khaine vs Puro sounded awesome, but him versus a Carnifex or Raveners, or whatever the HUGE raveners are called(I forgot) That would also be awesome

It would probably make more sense actually, a splinter fleet from the one that hit Macragge? Or just its own, your the writer, up to you buddy, it'll be awesome either way
>>
>>45493182
The hive fleet targeting Macragge just came there because of the Pharos device though.
Those Tyrannids specifically wanted Macragge, I don't see why they'd come to Ashardalon.

Well, as the OP, I think it's up to you to pick our next subject of discussion.

Personally, I think it might be interesting to discuss the homeworld further. Fauna and culture.
We also still need to name the (sub-)sector.
>>
>>45511713
Indeed, good suggestion! We should flesh out Ashdaralon, I suggest we work on all suggested, but lets flesh out the civilized parts more as the tribes have been mentined multiple times where as city folk have not(and from one of our characters it appears the Knights do occasionally recruit from them)
>>
>>45502841
Apologies.

Been swamped with work lately.
>>
Also, I have a question/suggestion/general poll

When we rolled this chapter, originally, we rolled our progenitor as Dark Angels

This was overturned by several anon's who said they were sick of rolling DA succesors, and even though I liked it it was overturned, we re-rolled and got Ultrasmurfs

I pose to you now, want to change it back? Being Ultrsmurfs succesors has really very little affect on our fluff(we are non codex compliant anyways) and with the secretive nature of several important bits of our chapter turning traitor and us hiding it(sound familiar? And this was WAY after we had re rolled)

I personally would like to change it back to DA, but I pose the question to those loyal anons who are here, and still working on the chapter we have made
>>
>>45511884
Please do, it might give me some ideas for >>45509001

Oh and as for naming the sector like>>45511713 says, I've started using the names of various gods of thunder as the system names, as the sector is near the Dominion of Storms, so many something in that vein
>>
>>45511918
What about Taranis? Celtic god of thunder and lightning?

The Taranis sub sector?
>>
>>45511917
The problem with doing that, is that I don't think the Dark Angels would tolerate our chapter, as we're not exactly very pure and despite the memes, purity is something the Dark Angels excel at, their gene-seed is on the par with the 'smurfs in terms of it. I get the feeling that if a DA successor chapter went this far away from the norm, then The Unforgiven would purge us themselves and be done with it.
>>
>>45511967
Sure, I like it
>>
>>45511973
Agreed. As it stands, the Knights wouldn't be big on their list of friendlies as it is. If they were DA successors, they'd likely wipe out the chapter the moment it got out they started ripping out hearts, let alone the fact that their chapter master was consorting with the ruinous powers.
>>
>>45512029
>>45511973
Alright, well so far it looks like we are staying smurf succesors, oh well

I just saw some interesting paralells, but this is why I suggested it rather thaan just trying to force a change

So it appears we will remain smurf succesors that the bluies are NOT fans of(single manly tear)
>>
Alright, back on topic in regards to Ashdaralon int the Taranis Sub-sector, what is the city culture like? Goverment structure? How EXACTLY do we interact with them? We rolled the 'does not really rule the planet' thing so how do we interact with them?(we already know how we interact with the savage tribes)
>>
>>45512159
I think we rolled 'Distant' on the chart, so I'd imagine we'd have fairly little contact with them. As for governance, I'd imagine it would work sort of like a normal world, but less corrupt, as I'd imagine they'd be somewhat scared of doing anything to upset the Space Marine chapter that live on their planet. As a side note, where exactly is our Fortress-Monastery?
>>
>>45511884
The civilized people live in large cities, but not hives around the planet's equator. They have been brought into the Imperial fold and are a rather stuck up bunch, considering themselves to be far about the savage filth.

I imagine them being very aesthetically oriented society. With a large focus on fashion and art. Their manufactories are below average, but it's artisans are widely praised. They do this largely do distance themselves from the barbarians.

This also works from the Khorne vs Slaanesh angle, as the barbarians (and the Space Marines that are raised from them) are more likely to be Khornate, whilst cultist who originate from the cities are more likely to be Slaaneshi.
>>
>>45512214
>>45512222
These both work very well, btw, since they are artisans, do they ever provide the chapter with 'gifts'? Particularly artful Bolters or chainswords? Possibly offering to embelish some armour?

As for our fortress monastery, we know our enviroment is basically the frozen tundra... so I would suggest either inside an iceberg or just WAY up north
>>
>>45512263
I can see this, perhaps their is a weapon or two in the possession of a Captain, and more in circulation with in the wider chapter. I'm thinking the oldest should be a shield of some sort.
>>
>>45512263
>>45512300
They could have provided detailed armor and plating for the chapter master's sarcophagus?
>>
>>45512371
Yeah, I'm sorting of imagining that a delegation from the chapter meet with the planet's ruling class every century to test them for taint, check to make sure they aren't doing anything stupid ect.
>>
>>45512412
Wouldn't every 50 years be better? That way the people would be reminded of the Space Marines often enough to keep them in the populations mind, making it more nessecary to keep the recruitment tactics a secret.
>>
>>45512547
Maybe, but our rule of the world is distant, the less contact they have with us, the more mysterious we become. Familiarity breeds banality and all that
>>
>>45512638
That is true, I agree with it being every century.
The planetary governor should be in contact with the chapter more often than that though.
>>
>>45512701
Well... yea but... technically the current chapter master(and the one for the last 4 or 5 centuries) has been... unable to speak with said governour so... who currently has that job?
>>
>>45512701
Yeah, I expect he'd send a report to the chapter, maybe once every 5 or 10 years to keep the Knights up-to-date with the stuff that will effect the chapter
>>
>>45512743
Tangentially, are we one of those weird chapters that has their chapter master as the 1st Company Captain or not?
>>
>>45512762
I'd say no, becaause so far nothing in our fluff suggests that

Currently the chapter is essentially lead by the Chapter council minus the chapter master and master of Sanctity proper
>>
>>45512777
So essentially a council of the 10 captains?
>>
779.M41: The Defence of Ashardalon - While the Cardinal Knights had fought in many battle across their short history, making numerous enemies as they went, it was not until late into the seventh century of M41 that their homework was attacked.

After hearing reports of astropaths losing contact with systems at the edge of the neighboring Ukko Sub-Sector, Librarian Captain Urbanus Tragar's 3rd Company was dispatched to the Acrux star system, as the Chapter Council fear treachery. Being the first system to cease contact with The Imperium, Tragar expected to find a sizable force awaiting him when he arrived. Instead, he found a silent system of barren worlds.

Each of the systems five worlds where stripped entirely of any life, with not so much as a blade of grass left on any of the planets, and both Tragar and Codicier Nicolayic reported feeling a strange in the warp, which he described as a 'shadow'. Connecting these two things together, the Captain declared that only one foe could have caused this. Tyranids.

With this grave knowledge, Tragar ordered his force back to Ashardalon with all speed, but not before sending out a message warning of the threat the chapter now faced. Perhaps it was because of this message that the Hive Mind moved its attention to the Taranis Sub-Sector, or maybe it had always planned to go their. Whichever it was matters little, as Splinter Fleet began to move to the Knights home.
>>
>>45512787
It was fortunate that the chapter had recently celebrated the 120th anniversary of Corazón defeat of Escura, as most of the chapter had yet to leave their Fortress Monastery out in the frozen peaks of the Cicolluis mountains. As such, when Tragar returned, an emergency council of the Captains and other leaders of the Chapter was called, as there was much to be discussed.

The council convened for nearly 10 hours, discussing all they knew about the Tyranids, the varied organisms they could face, the ways the Hive Mind might deploy them against the Knights and what weaknesses these creatures had. They also talked of what measures they would need to take in order to make sure that no planets within had already been infected, of the various signs that these infected planets might show and how they would go about destroying these infections. They also discussed how they might defend Ashardalon from these Xenos, whether the tribes of the planet could be effectively protected, how many brothers could be spared to hold the cities that dotted the equator and of how they could bait the Tyranids into attack their Fortress. Indeed they would have discussed for far longer, but a message came to them, they had lost all communication with the rest of the sub-sector. All the Marines gathered knew what this meant. The Tyranids where closing in on them, and they had little time before the aliens would be upon them. With this knowledge and most of the plans for the defense of the planet mostly done, one item was moved to the forefront of the agenda, Puro Corazón.

The Heartless: A unique position withing the Cardinal Knights, the Heartless is a marine who has forsaken taking hearts as a form of pennance for dishonour. Both his hearts are replaced with bionic implantants and he is forbade from ever taking another heart, even if one of his is destroyed. His armour is painted black(though the symbol of the chapter is still displayed) and all his honours are removed, long with his name and previous rank.

He is given 3 items, 2 of which are chapter relics. The sword of Escura and the the Takers fury, an ornate Plasma pistol, as well as a blood red hooded cloak. From then on, he is known as the Heartless, and his duty is to die for his chapter, broken and without honour, so that his stain may be removed from the chapter's records.

There is only ever 1 Heartless, and he is sent with whatever company the chapter command decides, often in the most vicious warzone possible. His movements are constantly tracked by the chapter, and the relics he holds are considered to be worth more than the Knight wielding them. It is considered good luck if it has been a long time since there has been a Heartless

Thoughts? and if this is liked, is there currently a Heartless?
>>
>>45513486
Love it
>>
>>45513486
Expanded relics

The Sword of Escura - The blade once wielded by Alma Escura, a power sword of questionable purity. Though not wielded by Escuras as he fought Corazon it is unknown for just how long Escura was under the influence of Khorne, but rather than destroy the possibly tainted artefact, it was decided the powerful blade would be wielded by the Heartless, for they are already dishonored, and it will help to slay as many as possible before their death

The Taker's Fury - A truly ancient chapter relic, this black pre-heresy era plasma pistol came under suspicion when every veteran who wielded it succumbed to death at the hands of seemingly unknown reasons. It was discovered by the chapter Librarians to possibly be a World Eaters relic from the heresy before they had fallen to chaos. Considered a cursed weapon, it is given to the Heartless to further signify their cursed fate
>>
The Blade of Escura is shaped like a key, right?
>>
>>45514214
... uh... no I dont get... oh... kingdom hearts? No it is not a key
>>
Ok, so we have fleshed out the planet a bit more, a new special character has been made(sort of, we need to decide if we even have a current Heartless) but we still have 1 very important goal we have yet to reach...

A written prophecy. We REALLY need to nail this down guys, we said it is strangely close to a folktale told amongst the tribes so I'd rather have the story but come on, this is important
>>
>>45514606
Right then first things first, what is it going to say. Obviously it's got something to do with the chapter being founded, but outside that does it mention anything else?
>>
>>45514850
No, we all seem to have forgotten they were founded because an imperial prophesy predicted a great THREAT to the Imperium(most likely coming from the Dominion of storms)

So they were founded to stop it. The prophecy is not meant to be about the chapter, they are a reaction to the prophecy

The triball story could hint at "warriors with two hearts" rising against the threat, but the prophecy needs to point to a possible threat, be it chaos or xenos
>>
As for what it is going to say, lets get what exactly the threat is before we start prophesizing about it

I say Chaos involving Khorne, which is part of what has led our traitorous forge father and the Inquis to try and destroy us by throwing the chapter into more and more brutal combat zones by manipulating the chapter, hoping to have them wipe themselve's out
>>
suggestions folks? Phrases? A writefag?

... lets table this for now, prophecy writing is difficult and it seems to slow things down whenever it is brought up, so wwe can deal with it later.

Lets discuss our new Special character, the Heartless.

I imagine there is a current Heartless, cause 999. M41 needs ALL the special characters

Who was he before? What action or actions have disgraced him? How long has he been the Heartless?
>>
>>45515248
I'd say he was a Sargent, as that gives us the most to work with background-wise. I'd also say maybe 56 Years as The Heartless
>>
>>45515248
I say we don't actually think him out.
Just leave him a mystery.
>>
>>45516148
>>45517219
We should somewhat flesh him out, even if only indirectly of a nameless sergeant who somehow dishonored himself

I'm also gonna writefag the ceremony to be made into the Heartless
>>
>>45517697
We should figure out who he is at this moment, but we should leave his futher backstory empty.

Also, I'd like to take this oppurtunity to mention that we've been doing this for a week now.

I suggest something close to this.

On the wiki there is the description of the Scouring of Goulfbadd.
It says that the entire 8th company died, though they annihilated most of a Slaaneshi warband.
The Heartless would be the sole survivor of the 8th company, having fled the battle and leaving his squad to die.
After his rediscovery by the Apothecaries looking to retrieve gene-seed, he has his name stripped from him and he becomes the Heartless.
>>
>>45532581
Alright, this is awesome!

Ok, OP is bacck. I'm gonna writefag up the ceremony to become the Heartless a bit later.

Ok new topic of conversation...

Let's do some small scale stuff

Do we have special names for oue chaplains or Librarians or do we just call the chaplains and Librarians?
>>
>>45532766
How about something like Bloodminds for Librarians?
>>
>>45532766
For them to be named something different, shouldn't they actually be different?
For all intents and purposes they are 'normal' librarians and chaplains.
>>
>>45532875
Nah, too Khornate. I'd say Heartseekers would fit better
>>
>>45532945
I'd agree with you, except White scars call theyre Librarians Stormseers and I'm pretty certain they are also just 'normal' librarians. I think it eally just comes down to how insular the chaopter cullt is and ours is pretty up there, but the option to not give them a special name is also there
>>
>>45533042
After quickly skimming through some stuff on the Stormseers, it turns out that the kinds of psychic powers they wield are different from regular librarians.
If regular Librarians are wizards, Stormseers are shamans.

So if we want to give our chaplains and sorcerers differrent names, we should figure out what the difference is.
>>
>>45533080
Alright then, any ideas for differences?

It sounds a bit cleshaed, but what if the Librarians practice powers related to blood or organs?
>>
>>45533080
>>45533294
I'm not too sure on it, but I've got an about Librarians being able to sense heartbeats or something similar. As for Chaplains, besides blessing the hearts claimed in battle, I'm not really sure what could be done with them
>>
>>45533294
I like the idea of them using a kind of medicinal or blood magic - it'd be another trait of their chapter cult that puts off outsiders. Though that might be more in the apothecaries' wheelhouse.
>>
>>45534390
Nah, I think the Apothecarium is more closely tied to the techmarines and such with the augmenting of hearts.

Maybe their Librarians are largely taken from the tribal witch doctors and such? I like the idea of blood magic and this sorta fits the vibe for me with blood curses and such
>>
>>45512787
>>45512804
Hey! You still around? Checking to see if you are
>>
>>45535912
Yeah, haven't been in most of the day though, only back back an couple of hours or so ago. Still working on it, but since >>45512907 >>45512983 happened, I've been confused on if this the definitely the case, as if so, it might be a while longer.
>>
>>45536066

No need to be confused

If he has been chap mast for 400 years as of 999.M41 then that means the year he was entombed was 599.m41 (in actuality let's say it was 588 for the khorne stuff Alma was doin. So he has been chap mast for about 411 years but close enough)

So it would be the 191st anniversary

That clear it up?
>>
>>45536262
Okay, so the death of Escura was a resent event in the chapter's history, and as such most of the senior members remember it.

Thanks for clearing that up, it makes the awakening of Corazón a different type of decision for the chapter, as this will be a case of "Is this a good idea and will it work" verse "Is this worth waking him for". Also means that when/if this is archived someone should change the date here >>45512787 to 788.M41, to make it up to 200 years since it happened.
>>
>>45536405
That's a good point... seeing as its much closer to the event I guess they probably have not tried to wake him up, or at least it hasn't been done much
>>
>>45536405
Oh, and as a side note, who would be in the chapter council. I'm imagining it's all ten captains, the Chief Librarian, the Head Apothecary (Old Ultra), the Master of the Forge, two Chaplain in place of the Master of the Sanctity, the Chapter Champion and maybe the Master of the Fleet if he isn't the 4th Company Captain. Anyone have anything to add to this?
>>
>>45536796
No, other than maybe 1 or 2 Venerable dreads, but also, remember since the command structure is largely combined the head Librarian is most likely also one of the 10 captains, or not I suppose that is up to you
>>
>>45536796
You could through the Heartless of that time in there, so the council can put him where they want/give him his most recent suicide mission
>>
Speaking of the Heartless, I am now writefagging what the ritual is from the Heartless's perspective
>>
>>45536874
He shouldn't be a member of the council, but making him an agent under the control of the council directly.
>>
>>45537090
Exactly, thats why he would be there though. He is not on the council and has no right to speak in their presence, but he should be there for them to give him his oorders
>>
>>45536848
I'd assume that, for the sake of maintaining balance within the chapter, I'd imagine that the Chief Apothecary, Chief Librarian and Master of the Forge would be bared from being Captains.

>>45536874
Yeah, I kind of like this, but would he be allowed a say in what happens (if he hasn't been made to take a vow of silence).

Also, is the 4th Company Captain Master of the Fleet, or does another Marine have the title, or is it even farmed out to a human?
>>
>>45537325
The Heartless take sno vow of silence, no vow of hate, only a vow of death.

He is technically speaking outside of the regular command structure, beneath even a scout technically. Despite this he is under the direct control of the council, so he is both elavated and brought low as the Heartless

Honestly wether or not he speaks is up to the HEartless in question, most have SEVER guilt complexes and consider themselves lower than dirt, but nothing technically forbids him from speaking, though his words may fall on deaf ears if he does speak for he is an honourless dog amongst the Angels of Death(again, even before the ceremony I am writing a Heartless is broken down, and not re-built in preparation for his new position as a Matyr)
>>
>>45537461
Yeah, that seems about right.
>>
>>45536796
We still going with the idea that the Master of the Forge is working secretly with the Inquistion to undermine the Knights by sending them out on suicide missions?
>>
>>45539190
Absolutely
>>
Oh hey, we're still going on this! Neato!
>>
>>45541873
Yea we are! And will hopefully be going much longer!
>>
Let's get back on about the Librarians

Somdo we want them to use blood magic and such? If so what exactly unique do they do? And what should we call them?
>>
Ok we will come back to this later.

As for our next goal... normally I would name it but let's discuss, is there any part of the fluff you guys want to handle now in particular? I'm taking a poll to decide what we should do next so make your suggestions
>>
>>45544593
Historical stuff - mainly battering out that Emperor-damned prophecy we keep saying is important yet have no idea what it's about, but also filling in whatever minor gaps there are.
>>
>>45544757
Alright! Let's do it then! Any suggestions for the prophecy right of the bat? What enemy (or enemies) is it? What else does the prophecy mention? WHAT IS the prophecy?
>>
>>45545505
Our homeworld is largely a wintery environment, right? Some mention of a line in it ought to be about how the white snow will run red with blood of Ashardalon's children
>>
bump
>>
>>45545792
I like this, certainly sounds like part of an old tribal folktale, come on guys lets get some more
>>
>>45548239
Just gonna go stream of consciousness on this - throw stuff out there, see what we'd want to keep

>The coming of the eight-fold king

>His gaze cuts through men like dark iron, his roar is that which shatters mountains

>The people will drown in a torrent of crimson slaughter and rage

>He slumbers upon a throne of the deathless

>Five will become the hand that brings doom

Quick OP bump before sleep again

>>45548789
I like most if not all of these, folks build on these phrases they are a good base

OK, OP is now sleep, don't let thread die
>>
Just pointing this out, the prophecies that lead to the founding of a chapter are done with the help of the Emperor's Tarot.
>>
>>45552442
Yeah but I think we also have a prophecy that the tribes on Ashardalon have which has some similarities with the one that cause the Knights to be founded
>>
Nudge
>>
Nudge
>>
>>45552442
Yea we are focusing more on the Ashdaralon tribal legen and/or folktale, as it was decided it actually nicely mirrors the Emperor's tarot prediction.

Also OP is back
>>
>>45555715
Why don't we start with the Emperor's Tarot? That's easier to decide on and it will create a groundwork for the tribal prophecy.
>>
>>45556721
Okay then, does anyone know what cards are in the Emperor's Tarot then?
>>
>>45556721
Good idea

>>45556820
The emperor of mankind
Abaddon
Eye of terror
the void
the knight
the daemon
the fool

Those are the ones I know, they xan be drawn normal or inversed

An inversed card is the opposite of the ordinary meaning

For instance, the Emp drawn normal is good luck, goo dfourtune, and blessings
Inversed he means the taint of the warp, corruption and other ill omens

thats an example, all cards work like this
>>
>>45556896
So they would have had to of drawn, what, something representing threat (possible The Emperor upside-down), the Dominion of Storms and Space Marines with maybe the daemon and something for creation?
>>
>>45556991
something like that yea, the tarot is ridiculously vauge even though it is made for psykers
>>
>>45557104
Seeing into the future with any sort of clarity is ridiculously hard in 40k, not even Tzeentch can do it with a real degree of clarity, he can see all the possible futures but can't really see the one that will happen.
>>
>>45557193
I know I'm just saying

So what cards did they draw? Obviously emperor inversed but what else?
>>
>>45556991
These cards actually work well enough, objections? Or additions?
>>
Btw how much longer till we need a new thread? I can never get the damn timing right...
>>
bump
>>
bump
>>
bump, come on guys
>>
>>45558897
310 is the bump limit, I think
>>
>>45564359
Alright, well thats good, so tomorrow most likely we will need to make a new thread then

So, another poll, seeing as we seem to have gotten or prophecy(sort of, and people have stopped helping)

So, any suggestions for our next topic of fluff?
>>
>>45566317
I think another point was determining what is unique about our librarians and chaplains - like what to call them and what they do differently from other chapters'
>>
>>45566596
Well we were tossing around the idea of blood magic for the librarians, ideas on what exactly that entails?
>>
Well, last bump before bed

Don't let the thread die lads

OPis now sleep
>>
Nudge
>>
>>45566596
Well, Chaplains would obviously bless the hearts they claim in battle, but apart from that I can't think of anything.

>>45567694
I'm still not sold on this, it seems to Khornate
>>
>>45572922
Yea, ok let's ditch that, just chaplains and Librarians then

OP is back

What's next on the agenda lads apart from the need for general writefaggotry?
>>
>>45574584
Maybe we should try flesh out the chapter's relationship with other factions in The Imperium?
>>
>>45574845
Sounds good to me

I think we know the Inquis opinion, but I feel like we could expand on that quite a bit

Lets talk about the Smurfs as well, as I'm pretty sure we are like their unwanted kids kept at arns length, but that's just my opinion
>>
>>45575359
I think the biggest factor in deciding how the Knights are judged is how much of their crazy heart-related shit is widely known.
>>
>>45576350
Good point, I guess we never really discussed how open they were about all their heart implantation... come to think of it I'm not sure myself. It is central to they're culture but more than a few would definitely see it as heretical... how much of our cult related heart use is known? Just how secretive are we?
>>
>>45576374
Well, we can't hide the fact that we're taking the hearts, so that's out in the open. But apart from that, I can't imagine we'd be to willing to share our cult with outsider, after all we aren't Flesh Tearers or Black Dragons, we can hide it fairly well.
>>
>>45576944
Good point, it's not like we just tell people 'Oh yea, those hearts we take ain't trophies, we fix em up and put them inside us!'
>>
bump

Thread archived: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/45449847/

Should probably create a new one
>>
>>45577797
Except we do. It's in our battlecry.

"One heart of the pure. One heart of the taint. We carry both in our chests."
>>
>>45581172
The tainted heart could refer to our defective one, they don't know we eat it
>>
>>45581318
Eh, fair point. I imagine that fact would also make us seem weak in the eyes of some other astartes -cough- Iron Hands -cough-
>>
>>45581480
lel yea, ok I will be making a new thread shortly or further fluff discussion/writefaggotry/drawfaggotry and link it here
>>
Just had a thought on building upon our relation, or lack there of, with our progenitors in the Ultramarines.

Old Ultra is seen as unfavorable by most of both chapters. He was sent to oversee the development of the Knights and guide them along a path that adheres to the codex, but not only did he prevent their creepy heart cult from developing, he's become so ingrained that he no longer resembles the smurf he used to be too the rest of them. And the newer generations of Knights regards him little reverence because he's known primarily as the Ultramarine that was placed in their chapter to babysit, furthering the divide with a perceived authority figure from their preceding chapter that otherwise keep them at arm's length.
>>
>>45581746
I like this but... he clearly DIDNT stop their creepy heart cult... are there some errors in this cause it has knida confused me with stuff like that...
>>
>>45581952

New thread! Go here for stuff now!
>>
>>45581172
I still think we should have stuck with breast.
