We've taken this and fluffed them out as Hong Kong cyberpunk helghast. Descendants the crew of a gigantic mining vessel that crashed on an inhospitable planet and survived despite it all. They are extremophiles, proud, (literally) bright, and consummate bug hunters. They are the Exterminators.

So feel free to join in and provide fluff, images or whatever you'd like. This belongs to /tg/

I like how you've worked it, especially the darker implications that he's more 'for the nobles' than for the people.

If you need more ideas about making him more 40k, or making him more fun and cyberpunky without ruining things, check out the Missionarus Galaxia page on the lexi. Not much there, but it'll help.

Y'know, with all the talk about HK being cyberpunk as fuck, sadly there aren't many SciFi works in HK at all, and even if there were they mostly dabble about things such as ayy lmaos and the paranatural rather than far-future stuff.

Either that, or things like time-travelling to Ancient China. Maybe it's because there's enough mystic and mystery in the history of China that writers don't feel the need to write about the future, who knows.

Quite a shame, really.

ON the first thread I talked about using Thick smoke, Flash-bangs, Fireworks and Paint to turn Hives into a little slice of home.

I also spoke about how through all of this fanfair and Shock-and-Daze tactics, The soldiers are stoic and Determined. Treating it as SSDD as possible rather than reveling in it. I haven't seen much talk about that facet as of yet and wanted to discuss it; How stoked are our men to be using the Colors and Mayham Approach? I want to avoid glee or joy, as that could be a bit to close to slaneshi,

>Maybe it's because there's enough mystic and mystery in the history of China that writers don't feel the need to write about the future, who knows.

Any future that doesn't in some way glorify the Chinese Communist Party tends to get very, very heavily criticized, if not outright silenced.

China still has a long way to go.

They have the colors and such just as a part of the uniform. They don't revel in it or anything.
>>
>>45481409
The picture is actually from Taiwan

Hmm...I did bring up in the previous thread that I'd see them as being very pragmatic, If that counts.
I suppose if they feel giddy about it, they'd still attempt to hide it under a layer of professionalism.
Us HKers are not exactly a violent lot.
>>
>>45481409
They're drilled and hardended soldiers, but they're also very punkish having grown up in their shitty ass hive. They probably enjoy it on some level because they know they're being obnoxious and disrupting, but I don't think they revel in it.

Also, the shock and daze stuff is good
>>
an anon in an earlier thread talked about how the entire city was made with the ship as a base, pretty much at a 60º, what kind of ship landed on the world? how big is it? i really like this idea but without the numbers to put it in perspective it's hard to draw it
>>
>>45481409
I'd personally just focus on pride - gang colors, traditional stuff, part of your homeworld's culture and you're honored to take part in it. Sort of like how lots of IG regiments can have bright colors in their uniform but don't go crazy about it.

As a tactic, they see it as a damn useful tactic. There is a risk of Slaaneshi-ness from Hellhounds or suchlike, but most units reign it in because, despite their crazy colors, they are professionals.

I'd like to propose two neighboring hives for the planet, one based on Taiwan, the other on Singapore. That way we capture more facets of Chinese urban culture.

>reposting write faggotry in bound

>this foreign hive was in open rebellion, first company exterminator veterans infiltrated the under hive to root out the source. I have them working like a gang rubbing out an enemy boss, demonstrating how they appear t0 their foes

I have lived in the underhive for longer than most, and am one of the few survivors of restoration movement. We mutants and outcasts had gathered arms and numbers for years under Boss Toad. Boss Toad's rituals made us green and near impossible to kill, when we declared open rebellion against the hive lords we were unstoppable, or so we thought. We had heard a company of hive warfare specialist had been brought from off world. We remained arrogant in our might as we tore through PDF and arbites with our number and toughness. Boss Toad made more green ones every day. The day after Boss Toad set up his headquarters in the captured water treatment plant we thought we had won. Boss Toad began to work a spell on the hive water supply that would ensure our victory he said. Then as we roared in victory, the world exploded in a haze of brightness and furious colors. Then figures dripping the same ooze of colors repelled through the windows spewing light blue flames.

I saw Boss Toad flee in the cross fire to his captured chimera. These blazing blurs of pink and green didn't even pursue the Boss, and detonating more of their sound and fury disappeared as soon as they arrived. The haze clear just soon enough that I watched Boss Toad start the armored vehicle and I could see it explode in flare of pink. Our might brought low by a car bomb the rebellion faltered without leadership and we lost our source of green ones.

Go for the pride route, Chinese culture see pride and "saving face" as very important, basically people want to be seen as dignified instead of a loser.

It's the same reason why things like domestic violence is extra hush-hush round these parts, it's not just about not airing your dirty laundry but also not wanting to lose face over it.

Indeed, while I like the more classical trope of an Army of Maniacs, reveling and loving what they do as a part of their schtic, Like really really getting into the way the smoke flows, Or the paint hardens, Or the foes stumble through it all...

I like the idea that these dudes see it as a tool at least, and a slice of home at most. Just as a Midwestern American feels that fields and tractors are a part of home.

I was also thinking of Photoreactive substances, Using Day-glow splatters or iridescents to really disorient foes in the confines of Hive Warfare

Personal Journal of Commissar Dans
>entry 167 pt. 1

I have been assigned to the Hua Yuan Exterminators after reports of possible xenos corruption among the Veteran members. I linked up with the Exterminators Vets during one of their many recruiting trips home. This was to guarantee my safety on Hua Yun as firearms of any kind are strictly banned on the hive. (Commissariat excluded of course). I've met the Exterminators Vets briefly before they went throughout the hive recruiting, and their armour is very impressively reinforced with 'Nid carapace. I noticed however an abundance of 'guant skulls on some of the troopers as well small hole drilled in the base of 'guant skull that has been the source of these rumors of xeno corruption and worship. After dismissing the men to their recruiting duties I choose to follow an Exterminator officer covered in many xeno skulls including one that was yet drilled and seemed to be sealed in wax. I tailed him easily by the distinctive neon armour and witnessed their method of recruiting officer's first hand. The officer went to upper hive and collected his highborn volunteers and lead the young men deep into the lower hive.

The officer candidates were lead into an empty warehouse facing 10 enlisted Exterminator regulars and told to kill them.
Those who did not immediately charge were dismissed. Hive War requires speed and aggression. The 5 brave souls who did charge were beaten nearly to death by waiting exterminators
The officer, who I had begun to assume was a medical officer, stitched their major bleeding and then choked them unconscious.
he then drilled that small hole in the 'Nid skull and mixed in a grey powder with the juice he extracted from the skull. To my misfortune I was then grabbed by two veterans who had discovered my vantage point. I firmly told them to unhand me or face death, but was ignored as they choked me to unconsciousness in a similar way as their recruits.

Hard to say man, even though Taiwan and HK see each other as battle brothers against mainland China, culture-wise they are pretty different.

HK and Singapore are economic rivals at best.
>>

part 2

I was roused roughly outside of a small hab-block. With my five compatriots I was asked if
I wanted to lead exterminators and handed two neon orange knives. Before I could voice my indignation, A rebreather was strapped to my head and I began to inhale the Tyranid compound as I was pushed into the hab-block as the color faded from the world and I desired only its return. The drabness of the world enraged me as I charged into the block. Then I was saw the source of the drabness, xeno cults in the hab, and charged them with my knives to which color returned as I killed and purged, the deception of human appearance faded as I saw the truth of these genestealer cults, I saw my allies gain color as they killed alongside me, then when we seemed overwhelmed and prepared to fall in this hell. The Exterminators crashed into the hab-block from all angles killing like neon angels. I awoke In their barracks feeling more ill than
I have felt in my entire life, but reassured in purpose to fight alongside the Exterminators, although I felt the world still lacking somewhat in color until I donned my new commissar coat with comfortingly glowing pink and green before my eyes.

Toads are 蛤蟆 in Chinese, incidently 田雞 is a common nickname for frogs.

Speaking of toads, 蛤蟆功 is one of the martial arts techniques mentioned in wuxia fiction. It is based around endurance, holding in power and waiting until the opponent attacks, at which the user counters with all the strength he's been holding in.

>If one is to inspect the Tyranid trophies of an Exterminator, a rare thing as they tend to be quite protective of them, they would find that every single one has a uniform hole near the base. This whole is generally used for mounting, but is actually created for an entirely different purpose. The extraction of the Tyranids adrenal glands. The Exterminators are known to produce a wide variety of combat and leisure drugs from the chemicals that can be found therein. Usually taking the form of an iridescent and fine powder, every Exterminator has a unique ritual involving their consumption. Some smoke it, others snort it, a good number inject it, some eat it or mix it with recaf like a sweetner, and some still have figured how to huff it as an aerosol. In any form of administration the combat variet of the Tyranid sourced drugs invariablely increase reaction time, aggression, and even enhanced unit cohesion among those Exterminators who do it as a group. It's withdrawal symptoms are, unfortunately, punishing. Ranging from violent seizures, severe narcolepsy, or even hallucinations of being a Tyranid part of the Hivemind have been reported. This, combined with it's unusual sourcing and the insular nature of the Exterminators has meant the glittering Tyranid Dust has not spread beyond the Exterminators.

On the topic of how the hive looks and works and all that, this is from the first thread:

>The citizens of Hua Yaun are the descendants of a giant mining vessel that crashed into the planet some centuries ago. The ship's officers quickly established themselves as a nobility of sorts as equipment used to survive the void was refurbished to survive in an environment hostile to humans. When contact was eventually reestablished with the larger Imperium, the involuntary settlers, they quickly established themselves as a major provider of the neon that was abundant in the planet's atmosphere.

>Sounds to me like it's just one, supermassive hive that was made bigger and more broken by the ship that crashed into it.

Probably airless dead wasteland around the rest of the planet... What if it were a moon? The moon itself has valuable resources but is uninhabitable and orbits a gas giant. There's a tidy explanation for why the whole thing is dead, there's simply too little atmosphere. The original hive could be built on-top of a mining pit that goes down kilometers into the surface of hte planet. Gradually as more and more people came a society formed and the hive grew until people started actually dwelling in the upper sections of the mine, creating a nightmare urban sprawl. Then, for extra grimdark the mine dried up and the authorities abandoned it or something leaving the populace to sort its' own shit out. That way the guard regiment could actually be the de-facto police force on the planet as well

What.
Frankly speaking, if you look beyond the flashing neon lights HK architecture is pretty bland and boring.
There's a reason why so many photographs in HK emphasize the night view, it's the best thing we could offer in terms of aesthetics.
Otherwise it's pretty drab, either fancy-looking (but not stylish at all) skyscrapers or old buildings with peeling plaster.
>>
>>45482158
part 2
>I like the idea of that.

A moon of a gas giant out in the far orbits where the sun is just another speck in the cold black sky. It would have an atmosphere if the temperature ever got above bras monkey levels of cold.

The hive is located at the bottom of a naturally formed super canyon at the equator. It was then further deepened by human activity.

The moon is geologically dead and has been for a long time. The deepest levels of the hive are at the level where the world is still warm in the middle.

It's a big maze down there and nobody has a complete or up to date map.

It is said by some of the natives that the oldest parts of the hive are pre-Imperial and they're probably right.

Everyone agrees with this right? its pretty fleshed out, if so then we need this on the wiki

Its just not expressed that way in any other regiments I know of - Kreigers don't necessarily find dull colors comforting, they just use them. Some colors have symbolic meanings - Vostroyan uniforms are red because Mechanicus ties, Catachans have red bandanas - but there are better ways to express them needing some sort of comfort than clashing colors on their uniforms. Maybe just lots of bright lights, since they're so used to their hive being constantly lit up with neon lights.

Genetic alteration seems like its getting too much into special snowflake "lets have everything" to me. If you think about it, most IG (and really, all the popular Warhammer factions) have one strong theme. Krieg: doomy WWI trenchers. Catachan: Vietnam / Rambo. Tallarn: Lawrence of Arabia. Praetorians: Zulu (the film, not the tribe). To my mind,post-human modificaiton dilutes the Kowloon cyberpunk theme.

Low-to-common grade Cybernetics are probably quite common though, especially among 'nid hunting veterans. Its not an ideological thing, its just that if you're fighting genestealers in a cramped environment odds are anyone that survives is going to be missing a few bits and bobs.
>>
>>45482533
agreed
>>
>>45482533
Yeah - genetic modifiction would be frowned upon by the wider Imperium because of the purity of the human form, and the fact that mutants and even abhumans aren't always looked favorably upon.

I hope the cybernetics are bulky and 90s looking.

Bear in mind, these are augmentations that underhive crime lords and the like can have fitted to their slaves and gladiators. Admittedly, Necromunda is a very wealthy, ancient and famous hive, but that still means that people at the very bottom can afford to make what are actually pretty advanced prosthetics from our perspective and, maybe more importantly, the doctors and medical technology to attach them successfully. Chunky, wheezing arms that just function as arms rather than buzzsaw on a pole shouldn't be too much of a problem.

>>45482755
Probably not made of the stuff (you'd need to get a techadept to custom make it, which seems highly unlikely), but I could imagine enamel style inlays from 'nid bone or dangling charms on otherwise mass produced prosthetics . So I have an idea that might be on the wrong side of stupid.
Pressurized neon jet packs.
Neon because it's easily available, stays in line with the established fluff of attempting to induce ALL OF THE SEIZURES, and provides a fantastic mental image. Urban combat, even in a setting as densely packed as a hive, is always going to feature a massive amount of vertical warfare. The ability to traverse large heights quickly sounds indispensable to a force like this.
Also, neon green guardsmen riding columns of pure rave.

If we're looking for more rave inducement but with better science, I would suggest plasma weapons for vet squads.

Argon and xenon and such can be used to change the colors of neon lights.

Why not have small amounts of these gasses in plasma weapons to give them distinctive colors other than blue?

In this way, regiment or rank could be identified by ballin' funguns.

>New Territories
Most of the land there are intentionally left relatively undeveloped and used as country parks. Whoever do live there though are mostly related to the old families (or the original settlers, whatever you call them)

Unlike the people living in the rest of the city, male offspring are allowed by law to build a house of up to 3 stories high in approved areas. (therefore there's a lot more smaller houses in the area rather than the concrete jungle people associate HK with)

Dealing with those old settlers is generally quite a hassle, so there's an organization (Heung Yee Kuk) to help the government deal with that. Nevertheless they've ran into some problems (such as illegal constructions on those houses) which I think involved some literal shit-flinging.

My memory could be wrong with the shit-flinging though.

Basically different mines are controlled by different gangs that each outfit their troopers with custom weapons and thus colours vary between gangs, and since they're mixed in the regiments you get a disco party

WEll, It does fit with the proposed tactics of 'Color and Mayhem" and 'Shock and Daze'

we could use stuff like reusable 'Flasher' Grenades that are just pulsing strobes set to a wavelength that their Masks are polerized against. And the three demensional Trap zones that they set down in the dense hives could utilize strobes and sound devices to disorent and mess with targets further. I'd see these kinds of tools being used on humanoid targets and genestealer cults rather than nids themselves.

THough, I would think that the tech needed to change las shot color would be pushing it a bit much for this regiment's background.

Although the vast majority of Hua Yuan‘s Guard forces use imported Galaxy or Accatran pattern lasguns, a large number of local designs have been catalogued by the Adeptus Mechanicus. Collectively known as HY-Grade Las Weapons, these locally manufactured devices are infamous for their ubiquity in the lower levels of the hive as well as their unreliability. Although inexpensive to manufacture (and thus perfect for use by underhive gangs), substandard materials and improper fabrication techniques routinely lead to problems not suffered by equivalent armaments. Among the most commonly reported is a failure to focus photon beams correctly, as well vastly fluctuating power outputs. These two factors often manifest in the weapon appearing to fire differently coloured beams between shots, often with substantially varying levels of killing power .

Hua Yuan soldiers issued with locally sourced weaponry often seek out replacements as soon as it is possible to do so, to the dismay of quartermasters from allied regiments. Nevertheless, enough have been observed in combat by other regiments for the phrase “a Hua Yuan lightshow” (a barrage that looks impressive but fails to do any real damage) has entered Guard cant in several theatres.

Another tool in the arsenal of the Hua Yuan Exterminators is the diverse set of 'Blinkers'. THese small devices consist of high intensity light bulbs hooked to self contained Power sources and rudimentary alternating systems. These tools are play an important role in the Exterminator's 'Colors and Mayhem' Doctrine, Serving to add yet another layer of disorientation and misdirection to the already cacophonous displays utilized.
These devices are All Flash and no bang, and very rudimentary allowing engine-seers and sharper guardsmen to manufacturer them in the field. Able to be thrown or set into traps, They are primarily used on Cultists, Rebels and Humanoid enemies

No I meant as they are now. Sure the guard may have BTFO the Nids on the first go around but they would have undoubtedly left some Stealers, which would have undoubtedly made a cult. That also gives them an enemy, and makes Hua Yuan a less pretty, Asian, Necromunda. Speaking of Necromunda, and the 80's, if you recall that time period, Warhammer's heyday, Genestealer cults could fall to Chaos and even folded beastmen into their ranks. In the previous thread I proposed that the Genestealer cult in Hua Yuan be Slanneshi in nature, and now I propose that they regularly adopt abhumans into their ranks, if only to keep their own numbers hidden.

And I can't remember what the Ecclesiarchy was like but they had Shaolin-esque monks with flamers and powerfists that cleared out sewers and shit. I think.

I'm not sure dragons are quite the right thing to add for this. I mean, on the one hand, yes, China. On the other hand, its a Hive. I'm not sure a chinese style dragon fits as a legendary creature for a group who spend their entire lives stuffed together underground, Rats and spiders are the traditional Necromundian beasties, and giant mutant ones of them frequently crop up in their stories. Cockroaches or wasps could work thematically here, but I don't know how they go over in China.

Thinking about it, a way to keep the sinuous form but for a more sinister creepy crawly aspect would be to use something like a Centipede. Hundred clawed, snake like body, dragon moustaches turned into antenna. You could keep the same kind of tatoos but with fanged insects, and these in turn bleed into Tyranid cult symbols,

Something to think about, anyway. Again, don't know about centipedes in China. There's this one
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_red-headed_centipede

Apparantly "In ancient Chinese traditions, this centipede is used for its healing properties. It is said that putting a Chinese red head on a rash or other skin-disease will speed up the healing process."

So that's nice.

>>
>>45485301
Maybe the most prominent gangs just so happen to cover certain parts of warfare that the exterminators operate in?
So one gang specialises in melee, one in shock etc.
And the tats are essential part of gang culture as they represent what gang someone belongs to, enemys they have killed etc.
So on all exterminators there will be basic tats, one for the gang they are from and one for the exterminators regiment

Think it less of taking drugs for pleasure but more like how in Vietnam, soldiers took drugs because facing the reality of their hell without the drugs would mentally break them. They take drugs to avoid the hell of their lives, the fact it helps in CQB is a minor bonus.

Saying that, having some Slaaneshi heretics appear in the ranks should be more common than in most regiments.

>>45487111
Underground Nid fighting is a very very very dangerous practice that does exist in parts of the hive but it may not be what you think. It isn't nids fighting each other but unarmed and unarmored humans fighting nids while others gamble. Though the option to gamble that the human combatant will win is certainly there, the far more common (and profitable) wagers are made on how exactly he will be killed.

The practice is exceedingly rare, but can be found if you know where to look.
>>
>>45487111
That is an awesome idea. I have an idea on how it can happen...
>>45487253
>>45487028
Combine these ideas

>>45487107
I thought they acted as the PDF as well. That's what all previous lore indicates. It's not unusual, I'm pretty sure Necromunda pioneered the idea of a combined Regiment+PDF. Perhaps they have reserve units, or place units not on a deployment on this duty, working tightly with the Ecclesiarchy and Arbites to find out where to hit and where to hit hard.

The Ecclesiarchy can only do so much on the Praetorian's turf, especially in a turf so crowded and inhospitable. And the Arbites can Exterminate like the Exterminators can.
>>
>>45487377
>CAN'T Exterminate like the Exterminators can
>>
>>45487377
the local Arbites probably operate in a manner somewhat similar to the Exterminators, but as you said, there's only 1 Exterminator division. They're one of Hua Yuan's many exports out there to make a name for their planet among the greater Imperium.

The planet itself is even more chaotic than you think with countless noble-funded armed forces all claiming to be PDF. The Praetorians, don't really care enough to step in.

That being said, a part of Exterminator training may be serving alongside or even as Arbites until they can be exported for the next tithe

this would both benefit the reputation of the Exterminators as everyone has to serve with at least SOME experience and the many noble houses as it forces those who want to serve to serve them by proxy for a limited time
>>
>>45487345
No it is not enough.
Imagine all of that but with the added effect of being absolutely, completely fucked on DMT.
>>
>>45487540
well I don't think tyranids can get drugged

really, the only faction that would really be useful on is renegade humans, since most other factions wear enclosed armor anyways

>>
>>45487515
Hm, actually that's pretty good. No real PDF, but a bunch of noble houses vying for power and trainee companies direct by Arbites running around trying to keep shit together.

Although you have to concede the point that if there's a major outbreak or a hab block goes renegade the Exterminators will be bringing the Rave grenades and the technicolor flamers.

So, that brings me back to my original stipulation. Genestealer triad, whose more human members are total Slanneshi speed freaks?
>>
>>45487665
The most powerful of the gangs could be genestealers.
But i doubt all of them could becuse there are so fuckin many people and gangs that each one has their own agenda and cause constant turmoil.
Could range from a few crackheads fighting in a back alley, gunfights in hab blocks between drug dealers, to assasination attempts from rival houses.

Continuing our tour of the hive, we come across a shockingly common example of lower hive architecture. Pictured is a semi-collapsed walkway leading to a spent mine-turned living area for countless families. This area, like many others, is irradiated by the extremely dense atmosphere, industrial runoff from the upper levels and even exposure to what's left of the ship's propulsion systems.
>>
>>45487735
I'd think the most powerful gang is directly connected to the PDF, Or the Regiment it'self. Fanatical at keepign the rot fo the 'Steela' Hout of their system, Their Brother Hood.

ANother Idea I had for the Gangs:

Initiates come in pairs, The first Born Son and the Second Born sibling. As the firstborn make up the regiment, The siblings are trained together, Everything they do, It's together until a certain age. They are then separated; The First Born is sent to the front-line enforcer squads, While the Second Child is sent to the various logistics needs of the Gang. This ties the regiment to their home, A heart beating ground side for them, in their place. that means that most longstanding members are Second Born Brothers, and First born Sisters.
Thoughts?
>>
>>45487837

I like the way it brings family into this. Makes everything seem much more... personal in a way. But works with the "stoic" mindset as well.
>>
>>45487735
Absolutely not. A single malignant entity. The second every ganger and rock slinging piece of scum becomes a stealer the Exterminators loose their recruitment pool and the enormity of Hua Yuan becomes insignificant.

One gang, headed by a single Patriarch, subservient to an actual Broodlord of Hive tyrant proportions. They are intent on seeing the fleet return, and with a single Tervigon, an ever dwindling Cadre of Warriors, and a steady stream of human hosts, the Broodlord slowly maintains his hive at the will of the Mind. The Patriarch and the other half breeds are just tools in his talons. That they associate with the mutant outcasts is mutually beneficial, as they are provided with safe haven and the Brood gains access to biomass that allows for some interesting and useful variation in successive generations.

That many worship the warp being of excess is inconsequential, once the fleet returns to the planet to reap the ever growing harvest the shadow in the warp shall be so great that the sycophants will be assimilated without the protection of their Daemon allies. For now it is just another means of expanding the brood.

I also argue for Voss pattern, because the folding stock is something the Chinese would probably love - apparently back in the day they really liked pistols, since they could add a stock to them and turn them into a makeshift carbine.
>>
What arnored units would our guys have? Kowloon City on Steroids doesn't sound like a good place for APCs and IFVs.
Sentinels, however...

Also, what about the upper level criminal element? I'm not saying the gangers, I say the "Triad" dudes that server as enforcers to the higher echelon of the organized crime scene. Those guys and their tracking and assassination skills would be of value to the Exterminators.
>>
>>45488215
Armor is a minimum. Tactics are throughing in some smoke/flashbang, clear the room out as soon as possible, and move on to the next room. Maybe every platoon has one armored squad
>>
>>45488215
Idk how much the imperium has looked into this but maybe some form of battlesuit?

>>
>>45488215
It's an infantry unit anyway. Being in a city like this would emphasise flootsloggging and areal transport. Sentinels, ACPS, and Knights only become possible once you level a hab block and set up a FOB

>>
>>45488215
They're an infantry regiment, so they'd probably have only a bit of light armor. Sentinels for scouting, perhaps some Tauros. Chimeras might be good, if only for the commanders who need to get around fast.
>>
>>45488267
The closest they've done is the Centurion armor for the Spess Meringues. So nothing our Guardsmen could use.

>>45488251
>Maybe every platoon has one armored squad
Armored Fist groups sound like a good idea, if our guys were more mechanized, that is.

Also, IRL groups like SWAT and BOPE use armored vehicles in urban sprawl anyways. Granted, they aren't quite this hellish but those favelas are quite the shitstorm.
>>
>>45488360
Oh, and Centaurs. Somehow I just see them using the little guys. Might replace the Chimeras with Salamanders.
>>
>>45488360
We need to limit armor. We're infantry, and given the nature of our doctrine, we're light infantry
>>
>>45488400
That's why I focused manly on light stuff - Sentinels, Tauros, and Salamanders are best for scouting and perhaps infantry support. The Centaur is a tow vehicle that can be adapted as a light troop transport.

I'm not saying they have to have a lot - it just seems odd for them to be nothing but footsloggers. They'd have to make up anything else heavy with portable lascannons and mortars.

aight, I think we can consolidate everything we have on the 1d4chan page

start a segment of the page or maybe even a whole page for the planet itself and we can keep working on that separately from the greater 1st Exterminators

it feels like we're working more on that than them anyways and we can really get into the nitty gritty of the planet itself, like naming and fleshing out the many warring noble houses and the different hive sections and the layout of the city

Roll up another thing? Give it a day or two after the page has been finished completely. If we move on completely then that's just another excellent /tg/ idea left to rot before it was finished.

What would we need to roll up? The city itself seems to be something we're fleshing out rather well without need for rolling - lots of noble gasses in the atmosphere, probably on a moon, use Hong Kong as a guide with heavy doses of Kowloon and cyberpunk with some Necromunda for 40k's blessing.

>>
>>45489466
I'd be pressed to say it's the best idea evar, but it's certainly fun. It's nice to have something 40k that's that cheeky sort of silly that's not too over the top yet to be annoying. And I am kind of a Chinaboo or whatever you'd call it, so I'm especially enjoying this.

Models seem like they'd be hard to do. Most of the armor reminds me of something like Elysian gear, maybe even Kasrkin. And they'd need a bit of greenstuffing.

>>45489611
Consolidation is king right now. But with that being said I think the birth of the regiment should be tied with the blossoming of the Genestealer cult into a planet wide hive fleet invasion.

So, with that being said, if we agree then which fleet did the invading? It can be canon or a preexisting homebrew, but preferably something with either aerial or subterranean specialization.
>>
>>45489705
Judging by the colors on some tattoos, maybe it was a new hive fleet. Probably one that evolved to survive in Hua Yuan's atmosphere after some time. Maybe they'd thought the whole fleet had been struck dead, relaxed, and then realized that some elements of the fleet had escaped to deep within the dead parts of the city and slowly rebuilt.

EXCELLENT. So. New Hive fleet, got generally BTFO'd by everyone (I'm assuming the Praetorian's got involved and called for backup then claimed the planet?) Because there wasn't a lot of biomass, and the biomass that was there was ridiculous to harvest, as every gun toting nigga in the place picked up their gat, burna, and shotty and got to work. These former scumbags turned selfless warriors of the imperium eventually became the regiment, after the Praetorian's no doubt took the best of them, put them through the Schola if possible, and made them commisars/commanders. Or something

Meanwhile every Trygon, Ravner, Stealer and everything else that could make past the Virobombings (they ARE Exterminators) and Holy Promethium/"Neon" (Seriously what multicolored/colorful gas/gases powers their jump packs and ghetto flamers?) saturation went deep into the crust. In fact this may be why they push the lower layers of the the Hive ever deeper, to flush the bugs out. To see what the Hive became refer to

>>

that's an easy one

the colony ship could have been fleeing from a planetary tyranid invasion or passed close enough to a hive fleet that a small amount got on board

either way, the tyranid boarding led to the crash landing and those left onboard afterwards were (mostly) rooted out and destroyed

>>45489705
>which fleet did the invading
we could always roll them up

>>45489941
>(Seriously what multicolored/colorful gas/gases powers their jump packs and ghetto flamers?)
Only the Mechanicus knows exactly what this gas is actually called and composed of, but the hivers most commonly call it "neon", most likely after the visual effect provoked upon inhalation.

this, alongside the Regiment's tendency to loot 'nid carapace or claws has started rumors among those they serve alongside that they inject themselves with their blood or other fluids, which they don't care to dismiss as it honestly sounds like something they'd do as part of a wager
>>

I don't really want to fluff out allies and enemies if I can help it - leaving them as their own thing lets them be something fun for other people to use. We already have the Praetorians, and that should be enough.

That said, Mechanicus allies. I have been in favor of Daft Punk techpriests. The White Scars might not work well because they're Mongolian and it'd be a pretty damn awkward relationship if they were seen as anything like the real world Manchu, but hey, I'm an Amerifat, what do I know?

That works, or it could just be some fungus that adapted or was more better suited for the conditions in the lower hive that was on the original ship. All it takes is some spores. They could mix the shit with Tyranid adrenaline, though. Like the sythn'd fungus is the normal stuff, and the blood fungus is the guard's signature rendition

The Blood Angels don't really drink xenos blood if they can help it, as far as I can tell. I think on some level they find the idea abhorrent, and they've never drank anything other than human blood in the fluff.

The Scars or Talarans wouldn't be allies, there would definitely be an open blood fued between the Lords of the Fast Attack and our Patrick Nagel Operators.

The Mechanicus allies 100%. Their ingenuity with the stuff they have without openly committing tech heresy and their contributions to forge worlds via precious, useful, and or rare elements would be much appreciated by the gear heads.

I think we have firmly established that the Daft Priests, or Tech Punks give them augs (replacing those lost to a scything talon or booby trapped door), chrome their augs, and give them sweet tats and blessings from the Omnisiah. >>45490423

Let's talk weapon/tactic specifics.

Our boys are light assault, cramped confines They probably don't have Anything heavier than Mortars as far as indirect fire artillery goes.

I would think that most of our forward units are Packing shotguns with a selection of round types, and light C&M[colors and Mayhem] supplies.

Our combat engineers will be loaded down with the C&M gear, One-man Raves each and every one of them. They excel at working in tandem to secure the multidimensional Environment of Hives, making sure every square metere that can be acounted for is, And laying multiple layers of defences. Perhaps they are also the 'artistic' Types from the gangs, Tagging any and every surface they can as they work, providing more passive camouflage for their comrades.

Bull-pup Lasguns: I feel our Standard Guardsment will be packing one of these puppies if He has the choice. Equipped with at least two of the following: Smoke bombs, Blinkers, Paint bombs, and Frags

Shot-pistols:
I think the most common sidearm in our Regiment will be various Shot Pistols. Versatile Ammo, Devastating at close range, And quite easy to reload the shells themselves.

Grenade launchers: One of the more common support weapons given to the squads; Used to deliver Flashers, Blinkers, Smokes, Fireworks, and of course the usual deadly assortment of munitions. 40mm or bigger, I'm torn between the rotary style or Single tube styles

ANy thoughts?
>>
>>45491133
gotta add flamers

they get a lot less use back home (starting a fire in an apartment that you live in is a bad way to kill your neighbors), but out in the galaxy on bug hunts? nothing better than fried 'nid

it has the added benefit of getting rid of all the bits of 'em that aren't hard enough to keep

they, of course are primarily made up of >>45489132

of course they specialize in not only the obvious things like flushing out enemies or toasting some of the bigger bugs, but also in controlling burns in both ship-based and hive environments so they don't impede troop advancement
>>
I've rewritten the entry on the blinkers.

<<>>
==Blinkers==

These devices are All Flash and no bang, simply projecting their blindingly bright light at random intervals to distract and disorient foes. Blinkers can be thrown or set into traps and are primarily used on Cultists, Rebels and Humanoid enemies.

To maintain stores Engine-seers and sharper guardsmen manufacturer these devices in the field with locally sourced [Read: looted] materials. As they are Hive Specialists there is rarely a lack of material. The complexity of the devices very from Diversion to Division, With the more elite ones, Such as The Fifth Division, Using specific wavelengths and colors that their Optics are polarized against. This allows them to use the devices more freely and tactically against their foes. The less experienced or less Specialized Divisions are content making rudimentary devices, making up for the danger of blinding themselves with Rigorous drilling in communication and usage.

Underslung shotguns or flamers (if those are even a thing) in case those lasguns could use some more punch.

The story is just in regards to officers, but yeah

I was thinking the officers use it to sense 'nids because they lack being highborn would lack the hive sense that the enlisted grunts would have from maneuvering in the lower levels all their lives. I saw it as way for the officers to pull their weight/gangland initiation, kinda like making a suspected undercover cop smoke crack/pot with you, connecting to their enlisted guy's gang origins. I might flesh out the Dans story and make it more clear, that it's not the whole regiments thing.

I'll do it in a simpler manner, but the name for them...one anon came up with one for them, but now that I look at it...maybe simply go and call them differently.

So the summary on them:
>They are a sub-division of the Ecclesiarchy of Hua Yuan and come in small groups.
>Are known for being highly trained martial artists with high physical and mental capabilities.
>Have access to an arsenal of melee weapons with build-in flamers.
>They wear simple robes, yet incorporate tattoos and colors the other Hua Yuan Exterminators have as a sign of camaraderie and solidarity. They also incorporate neon.
>They are lethal in close combat to the point that even Tyranid Warriors find them a challenge.
>Are both feared and respected by their fellow guardsmen, but with a larger emphasis on the latter.

In case of the melee weapons, I'd make them have access to lighter versions of Power Fists. Not as powerful as the real deal, but functioning in a similar manner as those used by Eldar Striking Scorpions Aspect Warriors.

Also about your pic, I'd see them having their own Tempestus Scions recruited from among their Veterans. Their Hot-Shot Lasguns filling the battlefield with a multitude of colors.

>>
>>45492064

But seriously, it will be better if I further expand on those Jade Fire Sect Monks.

The monks are an odd group in the Hua Yuan Exterminators. On one hand they are terrifying combatants on the battlefield, while on the other hand are friendly to their fellow guardsmen and those from allied Imperial Forces.

It is impossible for them to not do anything else apart from praying, training and meditating. When they don't do anything from the latter three, then they are busy with doing more mundane work or try to help out those who need a helping hand.

The Jade Fire Sect itself came into being in the early days of the Hive World. At first those were simply Ecclesiarchy priests that were tasked with helping out people living in the cramped and tight spaces of the hive, yet with time they went on to create their own type of fighting style in order to defend themselves and those who were unable to from hostile gangers. The more puritan members of the church had mixed feelings towards these individuals, due to the fact that the Decree Passive forbid the Ministorum from having men under arms. On the other hand the monks themselves counted as priests, albeit non-standard and non-traditional to boot.

The sect's symbol is a flaming fist surrounded by flaming flower petals. Originally those were normal flames, yet changed it into green as a form of camaraderie due to them recruiting hivers who wanted for once to do something productive with their lives and the fact that green is seen by them as a symbol of generosity, harmony, and health (of body, mind and spirit).

TBC.
>>
>>45492396
This is why the monks include mixing in green neon into their flamers that are built into their arsenal of melee weapons.

The monks exclusively use melee weapons instead of guns. The arsenal includes a unique pattern of Power Fist that are more like small gauntlets. They are weaker than standard ones, yet are light enough for the monk to punch with his full speed. With the addition of built-in flamers into them, the monk creates a illusion of his fists being on fire.

The gauntlets are not the only weapons available to the monks. Lightning Claws, specialized hook swords, adamantine darts on chains for throwing, combat staffs, and more. And somehow they manage to build flamers or promethium detonation packs into them.

Combining them with their spartan training and solemn meditation, the Jade Fire Sect became known for being a force to be reckoned with. So much that when the first Genestealer Cults appeared on Hua Yuan, they were among the first who helped the guardsmen in combating the threat and keeping the aliens at a distance while the guardsmen gave the monks fire support. Since then they became a part of the regiment.
>>
>>45492396
The monks technically don't violate the Decree because they're not "under arms". They fight unarmed mostly.

More random shit that might be useful

We're one of the few places that still use bamboo scaffolding for construction work (yes, even when working on the tallest skyscrapers we've got)
No steel or anything, just lots of bamboo lashed together with nylon cords to form a sturdy structure.

Aside from being used for construction, the same scaffolding technique is also used to make large decorations such as paper plaques in some traditional festivals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheung_Chau_Bun_Festival

One such festival is famous for the bun-snatching event where contestants rush to grab as many buns on a "mountain of buns" as possible. In the past, they have to climb with nothing but their own skills and wits, but after one too many accidents the authorities included some safety precautions.
>>
>>45492469
Every time the regiment goes to battle, they are accompanied by the monks. Each division has a small number of these fighters and are respected and feared by their fellow guardsmen. Not as much feared as the commissars, but the monks will deliver a beating to anyone who starts a fight for petty reasons. Hence why nobody argues when the monk is around. On the other hand the monk will always try to diplomatically calm down the situation with a mixture of philosophy and wise anecdotes and sayings. The monks never start a fight first and will avoid infighting among the guardsmen and their allies by any non-violent means necessary. Yet if someone will for once raise their hand in the presence of one, a soundful beat-down occurs with the one starting it usually having all their limbs broken.

Allied Imperials noted how terrifying these Jade Fire Sect Monks are when faced with the Emperor's enemies. When it comes to Tyranids (or any bestial enemy), the monks actually throw away their not-starting a fight policy and are the first to rush them. And it is in these fights the monks cut loose and fight to kill. One holo-vid showed an old monk effortlessly defeating a Tyranid Warrior with a singular punch to the head after delivering a barrage of hits in order to not let the monstrosity to retaliate. Another even showed a monk standing up to a Genestealer in close combat, yet even with his training he couldn't land a singular hit, as did the xeno. That fight ended when a guardsman shot the alien. Even Space Marines are dumbfounded when they see these individuals fighting, not to mention situations when they find them fighting Chaos Marines and being a match for the traitor marines.

TBC.

>>45492478
Darn. Forgot to mention that.
>>
>>45492621
There were even times when there were attempts to have the monks teach guardsmen from other regiments their fighting styles, yet it either ended with not finding enough recruits to start a new sect, or that not everyone was keen on this exoticism or was fond of the training regime that was too murderous for anyone to live through. One Inquisitor who observed them draw certain similarities to Eversor Assassins, though the differences are extremely obvious when it comes to fighting styles and behavior, yet the efficiency of the monks is almost close to the dreaded human terror weapons of the Officio Assassinorum.

No matter the opinions on the monks, they are a part of the Exterminators and a living embodiment of what happens if you make a humble person resolve to fight.

Hmm

If we're talking Emperor worship, I'd reckon it'll be tied to wishing for luck, fortune for both individuals and their family.(family bondings are very important in Chinese culture as well)

Ancestor worship perhaps, but it's less actual worship and more paying respect to your ancestors and remembering the family tree.(maintaining the family records are particularly important to the old families in the New Territories; their village halls usually house the plaques of their ancestors and important events are hosted in these halls)
>>
>>45492912
From what I've read the boys are mostly divided up into gangs and actual family ties don't seem to be quite as prominent, so chances are the gangs act as family to them.
(maybe we can reflect that by using familial terms when deciding the hierarchy within gangs? Hmm)

I could see gangs praying to and making offerings both to the emperor and say, the founder of the gang/previous gang leader, both for protection and their blessings.

Mourning for a fallen gang leader would be a pretty big thing as well.
