You are Kline Bueller, and you are sitting at a table in the guild hall. After an eventful night finding and thwarting the assassins' plans, you decide to get some good rest before going off for another mission.

You had enough time to get more lessons from Claudine, although you drunk some of your leftover healing potions to heal the bruises she gave you.

The quest board stands before you, offering you a bevy of missions for you to take on.

"Hmmm..." you mutter. That A-rank mission of hunting down a dark elf bandit seems tempting, but another mission catches your eye. 'Relic hunting in a discovered ruin.' Sounds fun, for those that like history.

Then the third mission tells you of about a princess from Rioel, a country bordering on the right of yours, needing sword lessons. Interesting.

Which do you pick?

>Bandit mission.
>Ruin exploring.
>Training the princess.

"...Hm." You say, grabbing the training mission and looking at it. You wonder if Krieg was up for it, but he'd probably get the guild in trouble with his antics.

Scratching your head, you wonder if anyone is fit enough to accompany you on the mission, but considering how exhausted they were last night, you doubt they could even help you out.

You take the mission to the register and watch the registrar look it over. She then gives you a look. "You do know that this is an A-rank mission, right?"

"Yeah, so what's so hard about it?" You ask.

"Rioel is known for its martial might. The royalty there aren't like any other. They're natural-born warriors and they're tough as nails." The registrar states.

"Oh." you say. "Well, I'm still willing to do this."

"It's your funeral. Hope you enjoy your month in hell." The lady stamps your quest with the seal of approval and hands it to you.

You can feel shivers run down your spine. You may not be an A-rank, but you hope the skills you've learned would be enough.

What do you do?

An evill grin spreads across your face as you think of what to say to Krieg. You quickly run back to the barracks and knock on the door.

"Krieg! I got good news!" You shout.

"Ugh... What?" A groan answers you.

"I got a date with a princess!" You sing out.

Feet rushing towards the door can be heard and it's thrown open with a knight glaring at you. "Say what?!"

"Yup. I heard she's a real beauty, too. I can't wait to put the moves on her." You grin.

"You son of a bitch!" Krieg shouts. "I hope to the gods she kicks you in the balls!" He clenches his fists tightly, his eyes boring into yours.

"You're just jealous that she doesn't find womanizers cool." You sneer.

"No, fuck that, I'm going to kick you in the balls!" The knight moves towards you with a glint in his eyes.

What do you do?

>"I wouldn't do that."
>"I'll tell Zephyr about this."
>Write-in.

>>

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." You warn. "Rioel's princess wouldn't like her future husband's package being damaged."

"R-Rioel?!" Krieg's face suddenly turns white with fear. "A-Are you serious?!"

"Yeah, why?" you ask with genuine curiosity.

"That place is a nightmare! Do you even know who resides there?!" Krieg stammers.

"Who?" Seriously, what was with him today? Mentioning Rioel seems to have pulled a trigger inside him.

"One of the S-rank adventurers, Crystal Bluegarde!" The knight exclaims. "She's also the reigning champion of the grand tournament held every few years at the Rioel Colosseum!"

"And how do you know this?" You demand.

"...She's my ex." Krieg states meekly.

>"...What?"
>"You done fucked that up."
>"Who's the son of a bitch now?"
>>
>>45486291
>"...What?"
>>
>>45486291
"...What?" You flatly say.

"I'm not joking. We've dated for a while back, but we were too different from each other." Krieg says. "It just didn't work out, so I dumped her and moved on. Last I saw her, she was screaming bloody murder at me and hurling daggers at me."

"Talk about a pissed ex." You say.

"I'm not a one-woman man." Krieg sighs. "But she couldn't see that."

Well, you always knew something new about your guildmates every day.

"And what does that have to do with me?" You roll your eyes.

"Listen, I'm telling you this for your own good. Do not pick a fight with her. If you do, you've earned yourself a spot in a graveyard." The knight shakes his head. "I gave you fair warning." He then heads back into his room and shuts the door.

You sigh and head back to your own room, getting ready for the mission. You hope that you didn't make the mistakes Krieg did in Rioel.

What do you do?

You quickly gather your clothes and items, getting ready to travel to the land of Rioel. You could buy something there, but you didn't want to waste your funds. Sometimes being frugal was being a good thing. You quickly take a look from your encyclopedia about Rioel's culture. It seems it prides itself on strength, shown through a picture of men carrying a statue of the goddess of war.

Soon, you emerge from the barracks, carrying your knapsack on your back. The day was going good for you, and you hoped nothing would go wrong.

"Commoner!"

Then again, fate loved to stick it to you.

"Yes, Maria?" You ask.

"Where are you going with such heavy baggage?" She demands.

"To Rioel for the tournament." You reply sarcastically.

"What?!" She screams into your face. "To that savage land?! Are you mad? You wouldn't last a day in there!"

"Oh, come on. What's so bad about Rioel?" You snap.

"The nobility there are a bunch of hedonists, the soldiers are a bunch of boors, and the royalty don't care for politics!" The cleric rants.

"Maria, I'm a firm believer of 'I'll believe it when I see it'." You reply.

"That doesn't matter! I forbid you to go there!" Maria glares at you.

>"Nope."
>"But moooom..."
>"Okay...."
>>
>>45487052
"But moooom..."
>>
>>45487052
"But moooom..." You mock whine at the cleric.

"This isn't a joke! I will not allow you to put yourself at risk!" Maria yells.

"Ok, you win. I just want to-WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!" You point to her back and run out the entrance as fast as you can. Your heart feels like its about to burst from the running you're doing. You run past the item shop, good thing you stopped by your way back last night and got some things.

You see the town gates as you stop in front of the carriage with the Rioelian seal on it. Wow, they're really prepared.

A black-haired man steps out of the carriage and looks at you. "Are you the fencing instructor?" He asks.

>"Why, yes I am!"
>"Of course, good sir."
>"Yeah."
>>
>>45487392
>"Of course, good sir."
>>

"Of course I am, my good sir." You bow politely.

He seems a bit...annoyed at your gesture. "Great. Get in."

You quickly comply, tossing your knapsack onto the back of the carriage and sit inside next to a window, just in time as Maria comes running towards you.

"KLINE! COME BACK!" She screams at you loudly. The carriage then moves forward and goes onward out of Grandale, leaving behind an angry cleric shouting at you.

"Thank the gods." You sigh.

"Friend of yours?" The man asks.

"Not really." You lazily reply.

"Whatever." The man grabs a book next to him and starts reading. Well, looks like conversation is out of the question.

>Look at the sights
I have the feeling Maria is either going to catch up to us or make it to Rioel not long after us.
>>
>>45487617
You look out the window and see mountains. A mountain range, in fact. You knew Rioel was surrounded by mountains, but they never looked so majestic and imposing up-close.

Further down, you see a town with pointed rooftops and a clock tower. This seemed quite different from what you saw in the encyclopedia entry of Rioel. Maybe it was outdated?

As you cross the border and into Rioel, the view changes into a lush forest with a large fortress in the center. It must be one of those fortresses from the previous wars. Maybe even from the Great War, perhaps?

"Hey, how much further?" You ask the man.

"Halfway there." He says, not looking up from his book.

"Kinda long way to the capital, isn't it?" You remark.

"Kinda talk a lot, don't you?" The man mocks you.

What an asshole. You return to watching the trees pass you by.

An hour passes, and the trees turn into a vast plain, the captial of Rioel comes into view. Finally, about time.

What do?

>Ask what the princess is like.
>Ask if the carriage is going to take you to the castle.
>Ask about what the royal family is like.
>>

>Ask about what the royal family is like.
This includes the princess. At least in part.
>>
>>45488003
"What's the royal family like?" You ask.

"The king used to fight in a war when he was young, and the queen was the daughter of an amazon tribe that lives in the northern forest." The man replies.

"So, they met in combat and fell in love?" you guess.

"Got it in one. The elder prince is an arrogant boy who thinks he's hot shit, and the younger princess is eager to get her hands dirty with blood." The man continues.

Wow. You've really got your work cut out for you.

As the carriage reaches through the gates of the town, the man lets out a yawn. "Welp, This is where I get off. Verna's gonna take over from here." The man then opens the door as the carriage comes to a stop. He then exits, grabbing his book with him.

Then, a blue-haired girl hops into the carriage with a smile. "Hello! You're the instructor, right? My name's Verna, and I'm the princess's bodyguard. Nice to meet you!" She thrusts your hand into your face.

Um...

>Call the man back.

>>Slowly shake her hand.
>>Politely say hi
>>
>>45488430
You slowly pull your hand out and grasp hers. "Hello." you say with hesitance.

"Aw, don't be so shy!" Verna squeezes your hand with a mean vice grip and shakes your arm so hard that you thought it would fall right off. "We're going to be the best of friends, right? Oh, I didn't get your name!"

"Kline-" You start, but you're cut off once again.

"Kline! That's a good name! You know, that reminds me of another good name! Kaire! Kaire Bueller, she stopped by here and challenged Crystal to a fight. It ended in a draw, and I was really cheering on Crys to win, but hey, a fight's a fight!" Verna babbles on, much to your annoyance. Gods, someone put a gag to her!

The carriage soon arrives at the castle gates and stops at the front courtyard. Finally, you couldn't wait to-

"We're here! C'mon, Kline! Let's go see the king!" She then practically pulls you out of the carriage and drags you towards the double doors, which open up in response to your arrival.

As you are inside, Verna keeps pulling you towards the direction of the throne room, chatting about random things you can't be bothered to remember.

Really, this is getting embarrassing.

What do?

>"Hey, Verna, I can walk, you know."
>"Ok, I get it!"
>"Verna? My arm's aching."
>>
>>45488696
>>"Hey, Verna, I can walk, you know."
>>
>>45488696
"Excuse me, I hate to interrupt, but I have legs and I can walk." You snap the girl out of her reverie.

"Oops, so sorry!" Verna releases your hand. "I keep forgetting my own strength. I didn't want to bother you when you were being so quiet."

How did she even get the job of bodyguard?!

"Ok. we're here! You can go talk to King Barra now." Verna then shoves you inside the red double doors and you see two people sitting in the thrones. There was a red-haired man with a beard on his grizzled face, and a beautiful forest-green eyed woman with golden locks falling behind her backside.

"Hah!" The king lets out a booming shout as he eyes you with judging eyes. "So, you are the one that will train my daughter, hmm? I must admit, you are not at all what I pictured you to be..."

"Appearances can be deceiving, my husband." The blonde speaks in a dulcet tone. "He may be stronger than Barton."

"Hmph. I'll be the judge of that. Have at you, boy!" The king stands up and draws his blade, pointing it at you. Wait, what?! He then dashes towards you with speed you can only hope to dream of attaining.

The tingling at the back of your neck is screaming at you to do something.

>Dodge!
>Parry!
>Deflect!

You quickly pull out your blade and deflect the incoming attack, which nearly could've skewered you.

"Not bad, boy." Barra grins as he sheathes his blade. "I guess I was wrong about you. Least you got good reflexes."

"Does that mean I get the job?" You ask.

"Yes, dear." The blonde states. "I do believe my husband just wanted to test your skills."

"Shut it, Hilene." Barra snorts at his wife, then turns to you. "I expect results, brat. I hope to see my girl manage to beat one of my guards in one-to-one combat."

"Yes, sir." You nod.

Barra grunts. "Verna! Take the boy to his room."

The blue-haired girl bursts in excitedly and grabs your arm fiercely. "Come on, Kline! I'll take you to your new place to stay!" Before you protest, you are dragged off again. Seriously, why is she a bodyguard?!

As you arrive in one of the corridors, you two stop at a door. "Here we are!" Verna announces and pushes the door open, revealing a very clean room with a fancy bed and nice furniture. "This is going to be your room, and the princess's room is on the second floor." She then points to the ascending stairway at the end of the hallway.

"Thanks-" You are cut off once again by Verna, who leans into your face with a stern look.

"My room is right next door to the princess, so don't get any weird ideas, mister." She then moves away and a bright smile appears on her face. "Ok?"

>"Ok..."
>"I get the message."
>"Mommy."

"I get it. No weird things in the princess's chambers." You quickly nod.

"Good! Let's go see her now!" Verna then drags you once again, and heads up the stairs.

"Hilana! Hilana, I'm back!" Verna's loud shouting is ringing in your ears. Gods, does she have to yell?!

"I heard you the first time!" A female's voice shouts back. "Gods, you're so loud..." A door swings open and a busty blonde girl storms out. "What do you want? I'm busy!"

"The instructor's here!" Verna smiles at the girl called Hilana. She must be the princess you came here to teach.

Hilana then gives you a judging look. "Hmm... you're kinda cute... Thank the gods I didn't get an old man or a brawny guy. Yuck."

"...Hello, princess. My name is Kline Bueller, and I-" You are cut off once again by Verna.

"Wait, you're Kaire's brother?!" She shouts. "Why didn't you tell me?!"

"You didn't ask." You reply, sighing.

"This is amazing! The king is gonna be proud, being taught by a relative of a S-Rank adventurer!" The blue-haired girl jumps up and down. "YES!"

"Verna! Calm down!" Hilana snaps at her bodyguard, then turns to you. "I am so sorry you had to experience Verna. She's... not exactly what you call... bodyguard material."

"I can see that." You sigh.

"Believe me, I wanted her twin sister as my bodyguard, but my father insisted she would be the one to protect me, claiming her sister wasn't strong enough for the job. I call bullshit on that." Hilana crosses her arms. "And that's why I wanted to learn how to fight, as not to rely on people fight for me."

"I see." You nod. "I guess we start in the morning. I'm really tired from traveling here."

"Yes, I suppose you do. I'll see you tomorrow." The blonde girl nods at you and heads back to her room.

"I can't wait for tomorrow! Kline, spar with me!" Verna is in your face again, her eyes sparkling.

>"Princess? Can you come back?"
>"Later, gotta rest up to full strength."
>"Ok, wait for me outside."

"Not now, I'm tired. I'll fight you later." You sigh. Verna has a pout on her face, but she slowly nods as you head downstairs and make your way to your room.

As you unpack your things, you began to think about your sister and how she's doing. You silently muse on how much trouble she's gotten herself into.

Then again, trouble usually finds her...

You are Kaire Bueller and you are slaughtering a group of orc raiders. You see one of them waving an axe at you, shouting curses in his native language.

Seriously, you wonder why they're so mad at you. All you did was to stop one of them from harassing a poor merchant and his family by cutting off his hand as a warning. Then again, that might've been their leader whose hand you cut off.

"I don't have time for this." You say as you slice off the axe-wielding orc's head with your sword. Then you focus on dispatching the rest of his comrades by either stabbing them, running them through, or slitting their throats.

Soon, you are covered in orc blood, standing near a pile of corpses. "...I really shouldn't have slit the fat one's throat." You sigh as you walk away from the corpse pile.

The moon shines down upon you as you walk through the woods, the smell of blood filling up your nostrils. You really need to find a spring.

Just then, you see a waterfall with a spring underneath.

...You really should stop tempting fate so much.

What do?

You sigh as you grab a nearby stick and place it into the water. It seemed safe, but you still aren't sure. Leaning over the surface, you sniff for any noxious fumes, but there are none.

As far as you knew, the water was safe enough to go and bathe in. You then remove your armor and underclothes, ignoring the odor your body was giving out. It was natural, since you've been walking around non-stop, looking for a dungeon in the area.

You slowly lower your muscular and well-endowed body into the water and relax, your sword lying at the edge, close to you, just in case.

You wonder what your little brother has been up to. Probably getting in trouble as usual. You wish you didn't have to leave him, but you had to support your family. It was for the best, though. You couldn't keep on protecting Kline forever.

Suddenly, the water bubbles violently. You slowly grab your sword as tentacles emerge from the water. Dammit, another fight yet again. It really wasn't the first time you fought enemies in the nude before.

A ferocious monster fully rises to the spring's surface, whipping its tentacles at you.

Your lips form a tight, straight line as it stares you down with its many eyes. You just have one thing to say to it.

"Bring it on."

With those words, you leap from the water and raise your blade at the monster, aiming at the big eye in the middle as its tentacles move to grab at you.

Only one of you was going to make it out unscathed.

>To be continued.

Thanks for playing. I might have to answer questions this Friday, if I can make it.
