> NOTE: Feel free to propose simple character/tank names/backstories between updates, similar to the end of last thread. I am collecting them into a pool of potential characters for this (and perhaps B1 Battle Droid) quest. Maybe some pilots of starfighters/LAATs as well, if you would like.

Talk of B1 quest is acceptable as well, for I plan to write that after this weekend at some point.

Now, let's begin.
--

The once bright forest valley has devolved into a warzone. The sun has fallen behind the clouds and is now casting the area into near darkness. As beams of red and blue flash across the darkened valley amongst the newly falling rain, you watch your men.

Your brothers in 6th Platoon stream out of AT-TE 7330 even under fire, diving for cover and establishing firing lines along the fallen tree below the AT-TE and in the craters around it in order to repel the haltering advance of the Nationalist forces. The walker groans above you as Phi attempts to right it from the Nationalists' attempted demobilization. All enemy fire directed at the AT-TE is ineffective, leaving only scratches in its new paint. The new armor certainly was worthwhile.

The mass driver cannon rotates above you, Xtreme attempting to get an angle to fire upon the enemy forces. He fires, the recoil affecting all of the AT-TE at a much more minor intensity than you are used to. The enemy line to your east is disrupted as the mass driver shell falls amongst them. The resulting explosion temporarily shines a flash of blue and white light over the valley. Enemy fire from that direction momentarily falters.

Soon, the swarm of blasterfire begins again.

The low light combined with the blinding flashes of blaster fire are putting a strain on your vision despite your advanced adaptive viewports on your helmet. The ground shakes as enemy heavy blaster cannon fire pounds the area around your impromptu defense, the distinctive sound of the 8 Nationalist TX-130s barely audible over the constant stream of fire. Your own TX-130, piloted by Corporal Old Man, is currently immobile behind the advancing enemy Sabers. The tank is ready to fire its missiles on your command, or if enemy armor overwhelms your infantry lines.

You are First Lieutenant CT-42/458, Jinx, and you are surrounded by enemy forces with no avenue for retreat or maneuver. You are not able to bring the walker's full arsenal of weaponry to bear against the enemy. As an AT-TE commander, this situation would spell your doom.

As an Officer of the Grand Army of the Republic with men under your command and potential reinforcements on the way, this ambush is being repelled with no - you look down at the armless trooper lying beside you - minor casualties. Normally this would result in your victory.

Unfortunately, nothing is ever simple in war, a saying you remember fondly from your favorite instructor.

"Bandit." You comm as you get up to a crouch and move back over to the middle legs of the AT-TE. Ivan nods at you as you leave. "ETA on the nuclear AATs?"

AATs with the same symbol as the one that decimated the AT-RTs in Jaxx, the same one whose commander killed Big. While you move against the hardcover of the foot of the AT-TE and contribute your fire with that of your brothers, a cold dread peaks through the adrenaline coursing through your veins.

"Jinx," Your comms ping as the Major responds. "I have a couple of my boys tailing them right now, and they just told me that the AATs are not moving at combat speed. Good news mate, they do not seem to be advancing on your position."

You are forced to duck as a beam laser cuts through the dirt and mud beside you, and you hear the scream of one of your brothers as you see the beam slice through his shoulder. He collapses, though immediately after a medic grabs ahold of him and pulls the screaming trooper into a crater.

Good to hear Bandit, but we require assistance here." You state with concern plaguing your tone.

"Lieutenant. There is more. The AAT squadron has two defoliator cannons. They are moving in the direction of Termat." Bandit goes silent.

Before you can respond, heavy cannon blasts from the Saber tanks rain down around your position, creating plumes of mud, smoke, and debris throughout your lines. You watch as a bolt lances through the air above you and slams into the tree directly above where Ivan and Threes are held up. The resulting explosion blocks your view of the two clones.

Your brothers are forced to take cover as the barrage of fire intensifies.

"Dammit all to hell, the psychos are charging!" Twitch calls out over your private comm channel. A sniper beam arcs out from the doorway above you. "Xtreme blast those nutjobs, now!"

The mass driver pivots.

"Prepare to repel the enemy charge!" You yell.

"Lieutenant!" Bandit calls out to you as you raise your carbine.

"Little busy here Major!" You hear it now, the screams of unseen men charging you even as the TX-130s continue to suppress your troops.

Twitch is cursing repeatedly as he rapidly fires beyond your field of view.

The mass driver fires. Jabiim shakes around you as you are again forced to dive to the ground.

"The AATs found my boys, permission to engage!"

The shell explodes into the hillside to your west. In the brief moment of illumination, you see them.

A sheer line of figures rushing towards you. In front of them, dozens of jetpack equipped Nationalists are flying close to the ground. They are only 20 meters away.

"Jinx, do you copy!" Bandit yells.

You have seconds before the enemy arrive.

You know, defoliators and nuclear tanks sounds like something a jedi would want to deal with. Chances are Obi-Wans probably off planet blowing up something in orbit though. Fucking Jedi.

Okay okay, serious strategy time here,

We can order bandit here and do??? have them engaged the defoliator tanks in high speed equipment, which, lets face it, AATs are not meant to fight. (Especially defoliators, those bad boys are bunker busters).

We can call in for an airstrike and watch our flyboys do fuck all, call old man to fire and watch him die horribly, order phi and get ??? Order 6th platoon to fire, or raise our carbine and fuck everyone over because we need to be in command.

Hello there Anon. Life has been rather, well, chaotic on my side. I very nearly had to change housing for personal issues from last semester, but, well, moving seemed to be a greater evil than just dealing with it here. That and college stress is never all that fun, you know?

How has everyone else been in this mini hiatus?

Right, as I write:

What all would you like to do in B1 Battle Droid quest? I remember the idea of being anti tank droids and, if the quest continues on long enough, eventually become a rival of sorts for this Jinx.

Does this sound agreeable? Or are there other ideas you all would like to do?

Keep in mind the average length of time a B1 survives on screen at any point in time. If I'm harsh in this quest, I'll be brutal in that one.
>>
>>45540348
I think a B1 quest would have to feature a lot of shenanigans. B1 droids are sassy but stupid, so a hardcore combat fest would see us dead quickly, but facing a planet of incompetents or pacifists with its own security force could be fun.

Don't forget the potential for droid vs droid with sneaky astromechs and the like.

"6TH PLATOON, OPEN FIRE!" You roar.

Even under the heavy fire coming from the Saber tanks, your troopers pop out of cover as one. In half an instant your troopers line up their rifles towards their intended targets, and as one they fire.

Dozens of Nationalist soldiers are cut down in that instant. The blue bolts slice through a handful of the jetpack troopers, either sending them up in flames or wildly careening into the ground or off into the forest. As the horde approaches undeterred by your disciplined fire, the forward line of jetpack soldiers reaches your position.

You raise your carbine and fire as they crisscross above your positions through the swarm of friendly fire. A couple halt above the middle of your formation and grabs something from his belt. You line up a shot and fire, your and 5 other blaster bolts tearing through the Nationalist's torso. He rapidly twists around as his jetpack cuts out and he lightly thumps onto the ground.

All around you is chaos as those on jetpacks swerve above your platoon, firing down with their blaster pistols with violent dives before pulling back up and around.

The charging forces are nearly on your lines.

"Cardinal." You hear Jackpot say over comms as calm as ever. "On my mark."

"Anything for the Lieutenant." Is the tense reply.

You switch your attention to the approaching foot soldiers and fire into their ranks. You practically do not have to aim due to the sheer number of bodies rushing you. You do not even see those who you hit in the swarm of blue rods of death purging the Separatist scum in droves.

"Mark."

The rear two cannons of the AT-TE fire, their heavy lasers lancing up into the air. You hear men screaming as they fall around you, many of them without their legs or with a hole in the middle of their chest. Jackpot and Cardinal continue to fire on the scattering jetpack soldiers.

> [Cont.]

>>45542364
"Send out your grenades!" The Master Sergeant calls out. Half the troopers stop firing to unhook thermal detonators from their belts. "Throw, throw, throw!"

Tens of beeping grenades are flung into the approaching forces, some disappearing into the enemy lines, a few landing in the mud in front of them. You spot one grenade as it slams into the face of a Nationalist wielding an antique Vibroblade. His large, vaguely diamond shaped hat is sent flying as the separatist's head is whipped back, the grenade tumbling into the soldier's open collared jacket. The soldier stumbles and is soon out of your view.

Immediately afterward the thermal detonators fill the valley with a series of bright white flashes of light. Holes are carved in the Nationalist line as bodies are flung out in all directions. Even as the enemy falters then attempts to reengage their screaming battle cries, your troopers stay silent and disciplined. As the light from the explosions fade away, you realize something.

The Saber tanks have stopped firing.

You turn towards the last position you saw them, only to see-

A boot slamming into the front of your helmet.

Your vision verges on going black as your head is thrust back, the inertia and force of the kick causing you to collide into the ground.

Your head spins and twirls as the darkness warps through your vision, your breathing is faltering, your neck sharp with pain-

"COMMANDE-"

You feel yourself being lifted up then suddenly accelerating upwards.

You hear distant voices calling your name, your rank, your identification, your livelihoo-

The acceleration shifts direction. Your head whips to the side, the pain in your neck blocking out the darkness encroaching on your eyes.

The rain is drumming against your armor.

You see the battle below, your AT-TE sitting with its rear raised up into the air, a semicircle of troopers firing into an opposing semicircle of indistinguishable bodies. Behind them through the smoke you see a set of charging TX-130s-

Your acceleration violently cuts out and you begin to descend-

You slam into the ground, sinking into the mud as you lose your breath. You begin to hack and cough and try to breath, grabbing at your neck-

"Commander!" A booming voice catches your attention and- you see him.

You see Crusader as he fills up your vision above you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders as he lifts you up to a seated position. Behind him you see the clouds and the hull of the AT-TE.

"Commander." You look at Crusader and hear the relief in his tone as he speaks . "I am glad I was able to catch you i-"

"YOU TWO CAN KISS LATER!" Twitch yells. "MANDO GET HIM INTO THE COCKPIT NOW!"

Crusader nods. As he wraps an arm underneath your knees he says, "Later, Commander, I will tell you the tale of glory I just witnessed. Trust me, it is well worthy of being sung in the halls of Mandalore for generations to come. Now, you must be kept safe."

You shake your head. "No, I must," You attempt to speak, but your head is spinning and twirling and flipping about, your vision is fading and refocusing at random, and everything hurts. You look to your men on the ground as Crusader jogs towards the AT-TE.

The soldiers, far fewer in number than you say before, are amongst your lines. They are throwing punches and using their rifles as clubs against your soldiers, the charge having turned into a brutal melee.

Your men are falling back.

The tanks appear through the smoke and dust. They hover towards you menacingly, four of them you count. They come close, close enough that you can see the gunner turn his beam cannon towards your troopers.

"No..." You try to yell, to call out, to warn, but you can only croak through a pained throat.

Your view of the battle is interrupted as Crusader lifts you up and over his shoulder. You watch as he deftly climbs up the bark of the charred and broken tree.

You hear the AT-TE groan. You strain your pained neck to turn, to look towards your walker, your machine of war, your weapon, your- your-

Your words escape you as you see the AT-TE pivot on its middle legs. The rear of the walker as first slowly tilts down towards the ground once more, but in a moment the shift in the center of balance of the walker causes the descent to speed up.

You are lifted back over Crusader's shoulder and gently set into your chair in the cockpit. Crusader grabs a bacta injector from his belt and stabs it into your neck. Immediately you can feel the soothing burn of the healing gel take effect. Your head falls to the side as your vision begins to black ou-

An insistent tapping on your helmet brings you hack to awareness. You look up to see Crusader still standing over you. "Commander, we require your leadership. Later we may rest in the annals of Mandalore's history of great warriors. Now, we must purge the Separatist from our galaxy. Do you understand?"

You find yourself blinking rapidly, your vision failing to focus correctly.

Crusader waits.

Your head spins.

What did Crusader want?

"Commander," He speaks again. You strain to focus. "Do you understand what is required of you?"

What is required of you?

Or, well, maybe they are.

Everything is spinning round and round and round and round in poor Jinx's brain.

If this was a horizontal roll based quest, that roll likely would have resulted in something special.

In fact, the fact still applies. If a character/force is able to get 3 10s in their rolls, something quite intriguing is likely to happen.

3 1s, and, well, we may need a new quest at that point. Unless they're against a force user, of course. Now that would mean I might have to take a day to seriously think about what that would result in.

Interesting thoughts, nonetheless.

Your vision continues to blur as you try to right your head to an upright position. It keeps falling to the right, and you have to force your head upright again.

"I don't know why we are what we are in this war of being and killing and having red hair on a beautiful.." You blink. "You know we are in a rebellion? Rebels fighting rebels on a rebel planet filled with rebels and we are clones and we are never rebels, we are true and loyal and-" Your head tips to the right again. "-woooooooooooo I like it when we are together and ow ow ow why is everything in pain I think pain hurts and is bad and I just want to not have pain." You right your head, again blinking rapidly.

"Why does everything end in pain?" You pause. Pain. Pain is bad. Pain is something you have to fight through. Good Commanders master their pain, revel in it as Ol' David used to tell you, it shows you are alive. It lets you know that you are, even when a Jedi scum may trick you into thinking you are something else, pain will keep you true.

Pain will keep you alive.

You are alive. You shake your head quickly, attempting to settle down its spinning. Why is your head spinning?

"Crusader, why is my head spinning?"

You can hear the smile in his voice. "A Separatist descended from above and attempted to use his foot against your unbreakable helmet. He was trying to act like the Mandalorians of old, but he forgot one important detail." He leans in closer to you. "You must descend upon your enemies from orbit to truly defeat them no matter the circumstance."

Blinking up at him, you say. "Wow. Did you ever fall from orbit?"

He pats you on the shoulder. "We all have with our starships and our transports, Commander. Remember that the glory of Mandalore is passed upon those who descend from the heavens with a righteous fervor, and no one else. Do you understand?"

You nod. Your head begins to swim again. As you groan in pain you lift a hand to hold your forehead. Remember, a Good Commander must always be aware of his body and whatever problems he may be having. What is wrong with you now? The soldier kicked you in the head? Well, then perhaps...

"I think I may have a concussion." You mutter. "I need a medic."

"Soon, my Commander." Crusader reassures you. "For now, you must take us out of this ambush. Lead us, Commander." His voice takes on a steely edge. "Prove yourself to me, Lieutenant. Prove that you are worthy of command, of being a son of Mandalore."

Confusion washes over you.

Behind Crusader you spot a line of BARC speeders flying along the top of the smoking and cratered tree. They enter and leave your sight as they turn off the tree and descend to the battle behind you. You recognize their armor as Bandit's scout troopers. While you watch the speeders, you notice beams of red and blue are now only flying into tree wildly and at random.

"Are you okay?" Your head falls forward and to the right. Your neck is burning, both soothingly and in pain. Your head still cannot focus on what is in front of you.

"Am I okay?" You mutter to yourself. Crusader stopped talking. Wait, he was talking? What was he saying? Is it important?

Can you lead right now? You think that is what Crusader was asking, right? You cannot keep your head steady, your body is heavy, your neck hurts, you can barely see, what is wrong with you?

Right, you have a concussion. You think. Did you just say that? Or did you only imagine it?

Huh, did Crusader say something? You try to look up at him, though all you see is the swirling patterns and bars of color all over his breast place. The oranges draw your attention, and in them you focus. The bands of orange circling around the greens give you a starting point, a reference to reorganize your thoughts, exactly as David used to tell you.

You miss David. He was not mean like the other instructors. He did put you in a pit against two commando droids as a child, not the grey ones the others trained with but the black ones that none of the other cadets believed you when you told them. David always believed you, then again David was the one who put you in those situations, so of course he would believe you.

You find yourself smiling to yourself. David, he is the reason why you are such a good commander. He taught you well.

What would he tell you to do right now?

You blink.

Wait, Crusader said a soldier with a jetpack fell from the sky and kicked you in the face. What would that do to you? Well, depending on how hard the Separatist hit you, you likely would have pain in your nec-

Ow! You raise a hand to rub the back of your neck. Well, that proves that. So, if your neck is hurting, what else likely happened? You remember all the times that those commando droids hit you alongside your head. And the super battle droids. And the B1 Battle Droids, which you found surprising because they hit much harder then they look like they should. The beasts you fought did not hit you in the head all that often, though they were more dangerous than droids because they were unpredictable.

Wait, Jinx, remember, Stay Professional. You need to focus, to be a good commander, to prove David proud for all the time and effort he put into training you. What is wrong with you?

Your head begins to swim again, forcing you to close your eyes and grunt.

"I don't think I'm okay." You say to yourself.

"No, Lieutenant." Another voice chimes in. You open your eyes, and in front of you is standing Crusader in his brilliant armor. You try to look up at him, though all you see is the swirling patterns and bars of color all over his breast place. The oranges draw your attention, and in them you focu-

"Ah hell, Lieutenant, are you there?" You blink. Movement is catching your attention, and as you struggle to shift your eyes over to the source of the motion you spot another band of orange. As you stare at it, the voice speaks again. "By the force Jinx, that jumper really did a number on you, didn't he?"

Phi, you realize. Phi is speaking to you. Phi is the driver of this AT-TE. AT-TE 7330 is in the middle of a battle. You blink again, trying to clear your head.

Why are you trying to clear your head? What is wrong?

Whatever it is, you determine, it is infringing on your ability to lead.

"Phi, you are in command." You blurt out.

> [Cont.]
>>
>>45545371
"What, sir?" Phi says after a pause.

"I said you are in command." You insist. You clear your throat. "As commander I relieve myself from duty for being medically compromised. Phi, take us out of here."

Phi looks up to something in front of you, and as you follow his gave you see-

>LAAT/c Name and details
Hammerhead, a LAAT/c that has undergone extensive customization having a large amount of Armour added to its front and underside along with an improved anti-missile deterrent system

>Crew

>Walker
The Lt. and main pilot, a very reserved and focused man in his senior years, has taken good care of his crew and has a large hang up about leaving behind fellow clones. His Armour is a littered with gray tiger stripes.

>Crib
left gunner, a heavy smoker and has a hang up about flying over water, Crib don't swim.

>Zero
the right gunner. A man of few words and fewer shots, but each one counts, second longest serving member of the crew. Zero is apart of the Mandalore cult springing up among troopers.

>Cables
Co pilot and technicians officer, Cables is quite jittery but skilled, the calm demeanor of his fellow crew unnerve him at times, still young Cables does what he can to prove himself.

Firstly, it seems that my walk went on a little longer than I expected. Sorry about that, I got to talking and wandering with a friend.

Anyway I have a question for you all:

Basically, Ought I begin writing for you all early as I can tomorrow, or tabletop it up with my group which had decided last minute to actually convene?

Regardless I'll be archiving the thread now and continuing it if not tomorrow then Monday night, so to at least reach where I wanted to get to tonight.

So general QnA is open, of course. I'll be around for a little while before maybe getting caught up in the night.

Quick question to those of you reading this thread: would you be opposed to me running a Clone Starfighter Pilot quest if/when Observer goes off on another hiatus or has to cut a thread short again? I don't have anything solid yet, just a thought or two thats been bumping around im my head since the last time Observer had to leave early, and it wouldn't be a regular thing, just for the slow times in between AT-TE threads.

>What do?
>>
>>45548055
You know what, I'm not even mad. This is hilarious.

That was brilliantly timed. Bravo, sir.

Anyway, you have my permission to use my threads for your idea. There is generally tons of open space to use up in this thread. Just make sure you make it explicitly clear for archive readers and such that it is a shift in writing. Make your own trip or what have you. In fact, I may even participate while you're writing, and maaaaaay integrate it into my storyline if I can make it work well enough.

>>45548117

You watch the pretty meteor shower. The meteors rain down from the heavens as one spectacularly impacts the deflector shield. For a glorious moment you feel as if you are on the front lines of war. You know mate, if you would like to continue these little fun interlude oneshots for various characters, you can be my guest. I think they would be good practice for you, and I am sure they are plenty less stressful than running a thread all on your own.

Only way to get good at writing is to write, tis why I'm questing, though there is a decent amount of responsibility and expectation placed on me. It still is fun, regardless.

So yeah, write more one shots when/if you feel up to it. I enjoyed it, at the very least. Have fun with it, tis what I have to say.

There is a list of potential characters from the last thread that you are free to use if you would like. Just anything you or other writers use will be marked off my list of potential characters in the future, which is not a problem whatsoever.

Also, my advice: take some time to read through wookipedia about all the possible starfighters on either side. There's not an overwhelming about of information there, which is good, and it's all worthwhile to read.
>>
>>45548953
Hey there, GermanSchteel here. I'm going to be honest with you, there's no episode that focuses a lot on Starfighter combat, but they are an integral part of TCW.

There are too many episodes to particularly list but you're going to want to look at the arcs.

1. The Ryloth arc starts with Storm over Ryloth which features the V-19 Torrent.

2. The Umbara Arc (AKA the best four-episode arc in the show) is a must watch and features not just clones doing clone things in space Vietnam, but occasional glimpses of space combat too.

3. The Malevolence arc features Shadow Squadron piloting Y-Wings to destroy the Malevolence.

Those are the arcs I remember off the top of my head. If you got questions, I'm around.

But seriously, watch the Umbara arc at least.
>>
>>45549377
The final episode of Umbara has in my opinion the best scene in TCW. It's the one where Rex takes his helmet off and runs around yelling at people.

Golden light shines in from above. Every color, every shape, and every shadow is gold in essence with a hint of their original color.

Everything is peaceful and warm. You could curl up and sleep forever here. You are looking at a slanted ceiling splintered with age. You drift your eyes along every crack and crevise once again.

You have never seen this sight before.

You know this sight as well as you know the shape of your hand.

Why?

You know.

You only need to remember.

You do not know how.

Footsteps in the next room jostle your awareness. You look to the door. You feel nervous. You feel scared. You feel proud. You feel excited.

You are ready. You think.

A voice tumbles in through the cracks of the door. A voice of a man. A voice you know all too well.

You are at the door. You press your ear against the crack of the frame.

The voice is directed at you.

"Open up, -----"

Your door is open. The man is standing there. His hair is golden. His eyes glint in the harsh light of the lightless room. He looks down to you. Waiting.

You do not keep him waiting. "Yes sir." You look up at the tall man. He reaches nearly to the top of the frame. The doorknob rests besides your head. It reflects your face. Your face is warped.

"We are going out to train." The man says. You know him well. He is a stranger.

You nod. You trust him. You are scared of him. You want to train. Training hurts you. Training makes you strong.

"Before we go," You freeze. He is looking into your eyes. "How does a Good Commander act?"

All you want to be is a Good Commander. It is what you were born for. It is what you are trained for. It is why you exist.

If you are not a good commander, you are nothing.

You open your mouth to answer ------'s question.

You know it well.

"I stay professional, sir!" You salute your instructor. He nods and turns away. You are proud. You follow him as you leave your room.

--

You are fighting. A long white beast with gnashing teeth growls at you. You ready your weapon. The grass is green. The sun is shining brightly in your eyes. The beast bites at you. You dodge out of the way.

You stare back. You are trying not to shake.

Your instructor tells you to strike.

You watch your many eyed foe carefully. You hit one of its eyes. It screams as blood flows from its wound, reeling back away from you. You strike again, chasing after the retreating animal. It swipes at you. You strike again and again.

You end its life. You turn to your instructor as the beast falls. He nods to you.

You are proud.

You walk towards him.

You walk through the snow. You are cold. Your feet are warm. Your shirt is torn. You are limping. The wind is blowing. Snow is flying. You can not see.

You are running.

You are alone.

You do not know where your instructor went. He told you to run. You are following orders.

You slip. You are falling. You roll through the snow. You bounce against the ground. Your body is hurting. You are screaming.

You stop.

You lay in the snow alone. You are breathing. You are being covered in snow. You try to keep your eyes open as the snow covers your face.

A sound slices through the howling wind. A band of green shines through the falling snow.

You are scared. You know what that is.

Green and blue lights are your instructor's enemies.

You are running from your enemies.

You try to move your limbs. You are sluggish.

You cannot let them find your instructor. Not again.

The green light approaches you slowly. You are hidden in the snow.

Everything is cold.

Your heart is burning hot. Your hands are fists.

You are ready.

It will be your life.

It will be your death.

You never want to look away.

The voice calls out again. You look away. You run faster. The snow is slowing the green light down. The green light should have killed you. You are faster than the green light.

You must live.

You can kill the green light just like how your instructor told you. Flank. Attack. Retreat. Flank. Attack. Retreat.

He said those words again and again. Every time you did not follow his command he struck you. The pain hurt. The pain kept you moving. The pain kept you alive.

You are feeling pain now.

You look back again. The green light is struggling to walk. The green light is waving in the air. The green light does not know where you are.

It is now your chance. You have the advantage. You only have your hands. You only have your body.

That is all you need to kill this enemy.

Flank. Attack. Retreat.

You have retreated.

Now you flank.

You stop running. You turn your body towards the green light. You move to the right towards the off hand of the green light. You crouch, keeping low as you move.

You round to the green light's side. You prepare to sprint. You stay close to the ground as you watch the green light move towards where you once was running.

The green light is saying many bad words. Bad words are bad. Anytime your instructor heard you say them, he would make you never want to say them again. You have ran through that forest dozens of times.

You hated that forest for the punishments you faced there.

You loved that forest for the training you learned there.

The green light stops. The green light is being held higher into the air. You slowly move towards the green light. As you approach you pick up speed, using the howling of the wind to cover your advance.

You are close to the green light.

You see the figure holding the green light.

You leap onto the figure.

You tumble to the ground.

You kick away the green light.

The green light goes out.

The figure is motionless below you. Breathing. Subdued.

A white light shines down onto you from above.

You look up.

The circle of light is blinding you.

What do you see?

>>
She almost died today because of you. She is not even a soldier, though she has been forced to fight.

She is glad to see you, even though you nearly got her killed.

Her shoulder length red hair is messy and dirty, sitting in a tangled heap. Her face is mostly covered with bandaged and bacta patches, though you can see the gashes that run across her face. Her lithe body looks tiny in the small hospital smock and running along her arms and legs are more evidence of the wounds she suffered.

When she speaks, her voice is weak yet determined. "Hello there, Lieutenant. I'm glad you came."

"Hello there, Lieutenant."

"I'm glad you came."

She is shuddering slightly as she sits, confidence and vengeance battling it out with fatigue and pain. Though she wavers, she sits up straight by sheer determination, one that can not last for long.

Guilt envelops your pride as she blinks her eyes and shakes her head, likely fighting off the familiar bout of vertigo that occurs when you push yourself too hard after bacta regeneration.

A small smile spreads across her lips. "I feel fine Lieutenant, don't worry about me."

Don't worry about her? You are an officer, a commander, a leader of soldiers. It is your duty to worry about the lives of those under your command.

You will not lead her to her potential death once again, not so soon after the last time.

"I am sorry, but you are staying here." You say. Her lower lip quivers for a brief moment as she gazes into your eyes.

You could watch her for ages.

She sits before you, a civilian you were made to protect, a citizen of the Republic you were born to defend.

The instructor never told you to defend. The instructor never told you to protect.

The instructor told you to fight. To kill. To win.

"Hello there, Lieutenant. I'm glad you came."

You are a fighter, one who is meant to live up to your instructor's expectations always. You are meant to defeat the green light, you are meant to run, to survive, to flourish in lands far from greens and lights in one. Without the instructor you would be nothing. Without the instructor you would not be a Good Commander.

A small smile spreads across her lips. "I feel fine Lieutenant, don't worry about me."

Don't worry about her? You are an officer, a commander, a leader of soldiers. It is your duty to worry about the lives of those under your command.

You see the hope gleam in her green eyes. As she turns her head to look at you, her hair shifts across her forehead.

You are meant to protect her.

You are meant to protect yourself.

You are meant to protect her.

You are meant to protect yourself.

You are meant to protect the Republic.

You are meant to protect yourself.

So guys, this all raises more questions, the fact that we had a relatively unique training means someone tried something special, and since we don't actually remember it fully it means it probably failed, maybe it was us that failed, maybe it was the program. Regardless, something went horribly wrong, and it wasn't just something simple and dramatic like an incompetent or corrupt instructor. Our programming is leaking over into other memories in a way that is definitely worrisome.

A light flashes against your eyes.

You groan and shake your head. The Republic, the Republic, you, you you have to prot-

"-eutenant, it is required that you awaken." Jackpot is saying.

You open your eyes a crack to see him and Crusader standing over you. You are lying on your back, and as you look around a sharp pain shoots through your temples. Groaning in pain, you raise a hand to your head and close your eyes again.

"The Lieutenant has regained consciousness." Jackpot states as he stands up. "You must be more careful. It would be a shame if you died."

Crusader gives out a sigh of relief.

As you open your eyes again, you notice that you are inside the hull of the AT-TE. All around you are sitting the troopers of 6th Platoon, with a handful of wounded laying along the ground. Jackpot is moving to attend to one of them as the medical droid and other medics work on the others.

"Oh, so the shiny is alive?" Twitch calls out from across the interior. "The psycho survived all of that? Ha! You give X a run for his money for the most suicidal actions!"

Xtreme chuckles gleefully through the comms. "Seppies! Dead Seppies everywhere! Oh how the limbs flew as the Seppies ran in fear!" Xtreme begins to sing.

Crusader pats a hand on your shoulder. "You have done well this day, Commander. Now you may rest, and I shall tell you the tale of your valo-"

"I love me a dead Seppie soup!" Xtreme interrupts. "I love it when they flee the coup! Seppies Seppies in the air, parts of Seppies in the air! I love my Seppies runnin' in fear!"

Beside Crusader a trooper clad in armor adorned with red stripes walks into your vision. Cardinal. He has his arms wrapped around his abdomen and is looking away from you with his head hanging low. Crusader glances up to Cardinal as he approaches and stiffens his back, watching the private as he sways back and forth next to you.

"X, you crazed maniac!" Twitch yells over comms. "I swear if you don't stop attracting the enemy's attention, so help me god I will come up-"

"SEPPIES!" X screams. "SEPPIES WILL KNOW MY WRATH! I WILL FIND THEM ALL AND BLOW THEM TO SMITHEREENS!" Xtreme devolves into inarticulate cackling.

"Uhm," Cardinal begins.

"Yes, Private?" You croak. You dread another of Cardinal's stream of questio-

Cardinal suddenly hugs you, then calling out. "I am glad the filthy Separatists didn't kill you, Lieutenant Jinx sir! I don't know what I could do without you to lead me! Send me into battle next time, Lieutenant!"

Crusader clamps a hand on Cardinal's shoulder. "Release the Commander." Crusader's voice is cold.

Slowly Cardinal releases you, sniffling as he stands back up. "Y-yes sir." He stutters. "I j-j-just never want to see the Lieutenant hurt again."

"I will take care of the Commander." Crusader says. "Now return to your post, Private."

Cardinal nods before straightening up, giving the both of you a salute, turning on a heel, and marching back to his gunnery seat.

"Lieutenant, by the force," Phi comms you. "I thought we had lost you for a while."

"Well," You groan. "I am alive now. What is the situation?"

"Not good, sir." Phi states gravely. "The AATs Bandit's forces engaged escaped, and were last seen heading towards Termat."

Xtreme harshly cuts himself off from laughing. "Phi." He nearly growls as he speaks. "Are the Defoliators still operational?"

Phi sighs. "Unfortunately, yes. Lieutenant, those cannons will be within range of Termat by morning."

Why's Cardinal so infatuated with us?
>>
>>45590315
Like he explained, Jinx was well regarded on Kamino by many of his fellows. Cardinal also was told the tales of your combat before you recruited him, and he thinks that without you he would have lost his chance to ever rear gun an AT-TE in combat.

He likely would have died on his first mission with 6th platoon. Probably killed by the walkers he loves so much.

You are his role model, savior, hero, and commanding officer all in one.

And Crusader really, really doesn't like him.
>>
>>45590459
Crusader is just upset because Cardinal replaced Big. He'll come around to him eventually. And Cardinal would probably like to hear his stories. I'd like to hear his stories.
>>
>>45590579
Storytime can definitely be a thing next thread. Combat is not right around the corner, and you relieved yourself of command for medical reasons.

Jinx came precariously close to dying this thread, and if it wasn't for Twitch's 10 earlier and Crusader's double 10, you would have had to roll for escaping the jetpack soldier's (I really need something different to call them. Ideas?) Grip. If you would've failed that DC, you may have been captured whilst wounded. If you critfailed, well..

Cardinal will already be crying to himself when he goes to sleep later. Good thing helmets can mute their microphone, though who knows if he remembers to do that.

Ok guys, here is my attempt at a one shot:

CT-37/8907 'Stalvern' waited, a practice of which he was getting tired of.

He had been on this Force forsaken planet for almost two weeks now, and time had not made life here any more appealing. All of the terrain on this planet looked all the same, that of rain soaked rocky islands separated my marshy forests infested with leaching and the rather nasty and ill tempered natives. You can't imagine any civilized, space fairing species wanting to live here. But some settlers just HAD to try and call part of this mud ball home and the locals just HAD to side with the seperatists, leading the Republic to send a response force of just one Acclamator class transport and an escort frigate. This transport in turn just HAD to be yours. Typical.

In your two weeks upon this paradise you have yet to see a single swamp-xeno-thing. You also haven't gotten around to seeing the supposed settlers that needed help. It would be just your luck if it turned out this was the completely wrong planet that the republic had sent you to, you were thinking, when one of your troopers, 'Cheeky' by name, called you over. (Continued).
>>
>>45590725
Jet troopers. Simple easy and gives an idea as to what they do. Or Jump troopers. Same thing really.
>>
>>45590725
>I really need something different to call them. Ideas?

How about: 'Jambiimi Dragoons' or 'FOC: Forward Operating Rangers' or something like that?

Also how do you thing the one shot is going?
>>
>>45590839
Troopers, if you haven't noticed, is what I make an effort to call only the fellow clones. That's Jinx's brain identifying them as fellow "clone troopers" and all enemy non droids forces as "soldiers." I think of it as the little differentiation that marks the "us vs them" mentality of fighting men.

>>45590832
I am excited for this!

>>45590876
Keep going mate, I like it and you'll get better/more confident the more you write. If you are giving vote prompts, make sure you get to vote prompts in your updates.

If you don't believe in yourself, then believe in the me that believes in you!

I also think those are great names. Any more suggestions would be nice, of course, as I mull this over.
>>
>>45590909
What does he call the Jabiimi Loyalists then?
>>
>>45590931
Loyalists, ans by extension soldiers because they are not clones, though he has mixed feelings about them.

They are technically rebels, which so happen to be fighting Separatists. They are loyal Republic citizens as they are fighting with the Grand Army, sure, but at the end of they day they are throwing their planet into a civil war with their actions. Rather than it just being a war of Alro Stratus' Separatist government vs the Republic, it is now far more complicated.

He also thinks of the Loyalists the Jabiimi, where the nationalists are not thought of that way. Us vs Them, people of Jabiim + Republic versus the Separatists and the local Nationalists.

Does that make sense?
>>
> I will tell you the tale of your valo-
I don't remember Jinx doing anything particularly valorous in that battle. Unless you count getting blown up, kicked in the face and concussed both times as valorous. Did we go full PURGE again?
>>
>>45590832
"Report, Trooper" you ask.

"Nothing Definitive" Cheeky reported, "But I did see what looked like a figure moving through the trees a little while ago," indicating towards the swamp. "I didn't see it again so I thought it was nothing until just now, same place. Think it could be the swamp things, sir?" Taking a look through your Bi-scope, you scan the swamp below you. 'Swamp Things' was the name given to the hostile natives of the planet, because none of you had bothered to remember whatever the name of this planet was apart from its serial designation. After a solid minute or two of watching, you see nothing.

Do you:

>Call it in to command? This sounds suspisiously like the prelude to an ambush.

>Ignore. Your men have probably been out here too long and are starting to jump at shadows. Just the other day you almost called an air strike on what had appeared to be battledroids from a distance but were in actuality a heard of medium sized fauna. >Ignore. This could be a set-up for one of Cheeky's famous pranks, many of which you have been on the recieving end of (Though you don't think that even Cheeky has the gaul to pull something like that in a Combat Zone, even one without any combat)

"Keep your eyes peeled, I'll call it in, I guess" you say, knowing that at the very least your going to help burn some time of an equally board radio operator.

"Hey, Felix, you on this channel? Think we might got something over here."

"Flyswat 3, this is Nerve Center, is it between the scouting party and the derelict? And will you please use your fucking callsign for once. Over." Oh yea, the scouting party. The whole reason you were out here in this muggy weather in the first place. You and your men were on Overwatch for a scouting operation to investigate a derelict space ship half buried in mud that the Major was convinced might be a crashed separatist ship. Glancing over to the ship right now, you were convinced that that rustbucket may very well have crashed here centuries ago, and the possibility of it being Separatist being in the same ballpark as you getting off this mudball anytime soon.
You quickly check to reference the last known position of movement against were the derelict and the current position of the scouting op is.

“Uh, that’s a negative Felix, its closer towards us. Orders?”

“I dunno, shoot it if it starts shooting at you? And for the last fucking time, its NERVE CENTER! Over and out.”

"Yea, Yea, whatever Felix, Over and out."
Well he's going to be of no help. Wonder if the Major has been riding his ass again about fiddling with the long range coms to try and get some holovids going again.

You suppose you could throw a rock at where you saw the movement, maybe try to spook whatever may, or may not be lurking in the shadows.

After choosing what to the best of your limited knowledge looks like a good throwing stone, you give it a hurl.

Turns out you aren’t that good at throwing rocks, as the stone lands five yards short and one yard wide of your mark.

“Wow, Bullseye Corporal! What a shot! How come they didn’t make you Sniper?” snidly comments Cheeky.

“Oh shut up, it was a bad rock, ok?”

A better way to do it would be to provide just the basic commands and let the rest of us choose based on our reasons while you fill in the character's own reasons afterwards.

After considering your options for a moment you decide that It just wont do to have a potential threat just outside your perimeter. But you can’t abandon you post to go chasing shadows either. Fortunately for you, a nearby clone trooper has conveniently put himself at the top of your shit list.

“Alright men,” you say, turning towards the 6 troopers under your command. “I need a man to go scout out whatever has been rattling the branches below in the swamp, make sure we aren’t about to have a nasty surprise. Cheeky!” you point to him. “Thank you ever so much for volunteering!”

“Aw man, why you gotta pick on me all the time, Stal?”

“Why do you ‘gotta’ question direct orders, Trooper?”

Defeated, Cheeky trundles off with a dejected “Yes sir” before heading down the slope towards the swamp. After ordering Hack to provide Cheeky with some covering fire, you switch on your radio to check in on the rest of the expedition.

(oh god why did this take so long to write?)

You decide to check in with the other Overwatch group first.

“Flyswat 2, this is Flyswat 3, Over”

“This is Flyswat 2, what the situation?”

“One of my men spoted something, sent him to check it out. Have you seen anything on your side of things, Sarge?”

“That’s a nugatory over here, but we’ll keep an eye out, over.”

Switching channels you hail the main Scouting party.

“Shipbreaker, this is Flyswat 3, come in over”

No response. Uh-oh.

“Shipbreaker, this is Flyswat 3, Respond!”

You get nothing at first, then something garbled comes over the channel. Try as you might, you cant raise them on the radio. Quickly looking through your Bi-scope, you locate the scouting party. They appear to be all right no signs of fighting, but have stopped about 200 meters from the downed ship.

One of them, you notice appears to be fiddling with his helmet, before turning towards your general direction and giving his helmet a few nocks before shrugging. At least nothing bad happened to them, you think, just a major equipment malfunction. Not something enjoyable, but not something immediately deadly

You quickly run through all of the possibilities of what could be the cause of the radio issue. While a singular malfunction was possible, nay; highly probable in these conditions, having the whole Thirty-man scout group have total radio failure simultaneously was downright impossible.

This left two possibilities, Hostile Jamming of the radios, or interference from some other source. As you ponder your options as to how to deal with this situation, you hear Hack shouting.

“Oh shit oh shit SHIT! He’s gone!” he yells.

“What!? Who’s gone? What’s happened?” you franticly ask, dashing over to his position.

“Its Cheeky! One sec he’s wading through the swamp, the next…I don’t know, I think he got dragged under, it was really fast!”

>Orders?

>Write in

>>45602834
>Report to Nerve Center about the communication issue
>Also report one of the swamp things probably just killed Cheeky
Can we get some kind of lifeforce scanner? if so
>Try to localize Cheeky
>Bring towing/climbing cables to try to save him

Option prompts are generally good to maintain for the first 10 or so updates, just so you know. Early on like this, the players do not really know what can be done. Mild advice. Keep it up!

Are we simply foot men, or do we have any form of transportation? If we have a speeder, have someone get on it now. If not, move to counter any potential enemy ambush.

Do not go out into the swamp after Cheeky unless it's with a speeder.
>>
>>45602834
Try to regroup the rest of the scouts before everyone starts getting picked off like Cheeky.
>>

You and your squad are on foot, but you do have a single speederbike at your disposal that you have been using as a pack-mual up until this point. In the packs are standard equipment such as rations, medical supplies, blaster charges, rope, etc. You will have to dump all this baggage to get someone on the speederbike, though you can return for it later.
Another thing to note is that on this planet the water levels in the swamps stay at around knee hight, with depths sometimes going up to chest hight. Unless it starts to flood, that is.
>>
Getting hungry, going off to get supper, discuss strategy or ask me questions while im gone and i'll try to answer them when i get back. Alternatively if you want observer could get us back to the main quest if that is what you guys want.

p.s. would anybody like me to quickly make a map of the situation in photoshop?

Yes that would be nice

When you say knee high/chest high you mean it's not possible to go deeper? The thing is holding Cheeky in 1-1.20m of water?

Yep pretty much, things dont get that deep on this planet other than a couple of lakes and the odd small ocean. These depths usually wouldn't be a problem for a clone's sealed suit, but as it turns out there was a microbe on this planet that just LOVED the taste of your armors seals, so much so that after three days surface side there wasn't a single properly working suit seal in the whole outfit (which is part of the reason we're wearing ponchos as seen in>>45590832 )

Also distances may or may not be accurate for this map

Snapping into action, you start barking orders while trying to look out for new contacts that may threaten your position.

“Defensive positons! Watch out for an ambush!” As your clones snap into action you sent a quick status report to Nerve Center and Flyswat 2, telling them that one of your troopers has been assaulted, possibly by hostile locals. You still cannot hail Shipbreaker, and from the replies that you get, neither can Flyswat or Nerve Center.

Now to figure out how to save Cheeky and warn Shipbreaker of the danger. You glance around and spot the speederbike that you have been using as a pack-mule. A clone could get to Cheeky’s last known position and make a rescue attempt.

Possible Clones to send:
>Muscles: Clone obsessed with working out/body sculpting, great at wreslting.
>Knives: Has a knife collection that he keeps on his person at all times and knows how to use.
>Another clone (Write in your own clone)
>Send a clone in by foot
>Other (Write in)

In addition, you need to somehow alert Shipbreaker of the situation. You could:

>Fire off an emergency Flare and hope that they get the message
>Leave Cheeky to his fate and send a trooper by speederbike to warn Shipbreaker
>Other

You are doing perfectly fine, Werfy. A couple suggestions: Try and have your updates completely written out, preferably in a separate word processor (I use Notepad because I'm crazy before transferring it to Word for editing, then I copy it to 4chan for a final quick round of editing/writing up prompts sometimes/what have you).

There is nothing wrong with your writing, it is just obvious that this format is rather new for you. Don't you worry, we enjoy reading your work, and you'll enjoy writing your work more as you gain more traction in the story, readers, experience writing in this way.

Take some time to flesh out your ideas between threads, write up some characters, think up of what all is going to happen, and so on and so forth. If you need any advice, German on the QMC irc is where I went for my questions, and I pop in there occasionally as well if you want to talk. Of course, I will be here to explain/give more advice if you have anything in mind you want thoughts on.

Don't worry if you are not feeling all that confident with your writing right now, it will come as you write more. Also, do not discount how many people are voting. Having tens of voters right off the bat practically never happens unless you are extremely lucky or already established as a QM. Keep at it mate, it's quite enjoyable and refreshing to me to see others write clone troopers in this setting.

Especially because, as I am sure you are all aware, Jinx has some issues in his brain that probably should get resolved at some point, maybe.

Do you feel you can trust him?

>Do you feel you can trust him?
He seems pretty good at his job, but I'm just waiting for the time when we brutally murder a whole bunch of loyalists or Carla.
>>
>>45605141
t b h I didn't vote because I would have given the same answer as the other 2 guys
>muscle so he can't be dragged underwater as easily
>use a flare to get them a message (maybe shoot in the air a few times in a later update if needed)

Only criticism I would have is how you posted your 3-post update over the course of like 4 hours

Apart from that it's great
