You are Charlie Dennet. Magician, student and partial insomniac. Can someone be a partial insomniac, actually? You only sleep once every two or three days and when you do it's usually for about four hours, so maybe insomniac isn't the right word. You ponder this as you descend the stairs after another, mostly sleepless night. You wander into the kitchen and begin to make yourself simple breakfast, relishing in the silence as none of your housemates have woken up yet. You aren't entirely sure HOW you missed Bart, Cissie and Lil Lobo moving into the house, but apparently you did as you didn't hear any of them leave last night. Just as your toast pops up, you open the door and collect the newspaper on the stoop.Sitting at the table you skip the headlines and some of the pages before closing it. From what you can see, it seems to be the world just reacting to the Government's new Superhero Team 'The Justice League of America', interviews about and with Amanda Waller and the speculation regarding a legal policy regarding extraterrestrial aliens on American soil. You still have about an hour until your first class of the day starts and you aren't sure how you want to spend it. It DOES take you about fifteen minutes to walk to Class. >A. Get ready for the day. Get dressed, brush some things, wash some things etc. (20 Minutes)>B. Do a quick study sess. It won't help as much as a dedicated one, but it's a good idea (30 Minutes)>C. Skip Class for the day. Forget getting ready, spend the day doing other stuff. (N/A)>D. Go for a quick run. You obviously need more exercise if you're going to sleep tonight (45 Minutes) >E. Read the paper more thoroughly. >>45566500>>A. Get ready for the day. Get dressed, brush some things, wash some things etc. (20 Minutes)
You take the time to try and make yourself seem as alive as possible. You make sure to brush your hair away from your face so that it doesn't hang down in those loose tendrils that it tends to when you forget. You brush your teeth extra vigorously and remember to use the mouthwash this time. You even remember to use the clear anti-perspirant rather than the white cake stuff. That stuff tends to get all matted with armpit hair and....honestly, you don't even like to think about it. The main point is that by the time you step out of the washroom, feeling and, honestly, looking better than when you entered you find Anita is waiting outside the washroom, patiently tapping at her phone. “Morning” She mutters, lifting the cloud of curls away from her face as she slips her phone into her pajama bottoms. “Morning” you reply before she unceremoniously pushes past you and into the bathroom. The door closes with a sharp finality and you decide to walk back downstairs. As you do, you recall what Bart said about the television...maybe you can do something about it? You have about 40 minutes remaining until Class. Though it does take you fifteen to walk to Class. >A. Fix the television. You don't watch it as much as the younger housemates, but it's a cool thing to do (25 Minutes)>B. Do a quick study sess. It won't help as much as a dedicated one, but it's a good idea (30 Minutes)>C. However, by the time you're done, lo and behold, it's actually fixed. You smile as you flip through channels, just to make sure that you didn't manage to do something horrible. Just as you are about to turn off the television, however, you stumble across a news station which appears to be interviewing 'Billionaire Maxwell Lord' and you stop, seemingly frozen in place at the mention of your father. You feel yourself gulp involuntarily as the camera switches to show Maxwell Lord sitting in an armchair, opposite the anchor. "ridiculous! I mean, the Justice League has volunteered themselves as our saviors for YEARS with seemingly no interest in world politics or even compensation. I think, if anything, our government should be REWARDING them, for the service they render" "Right, but Mister Lord, don't you think the government should have a say in who represents them?" "But that's just i-" You click the power button just as you hear Anita's footfalls reach the last step on the staircase. She rounds the corner and makes a beeline for the fridge. You find yourself a seat you feel comfortable sitting in and manage to settle into it just in time for the Professor, a raven-haired woman who looks much younger than you'd expect, to walk over to the door and shut it. She presses the lock on the door and then walks back to her podium before beginning to shuffle about some papers. “I apologize for my absence yesterday; I had some matters that needed attending to.” The professor finall seems to settle on how she wants her papers arranged and gives all of you an icy glare. She does not look particularly pleased to be here. “By the end of this year, many of you will have either dropped out, been the victim of a crime or failed to maintain the Grade Point Average necessary to stay in this program” She says it plainly, no venom or passion. She's just saying things she believes to be true, and that's troubling because she could be referring to anyone in the room. “However. None of that is my concern. My only concern is to give assignments, collect assignments, grade them and then give you tests based on the material those assignments were designed to help you learn. That having been said, my point is that I do not accept late assignments, I rarely give retests and extra-credit is a crutch I plan to kick out from under you. In short, my preferred archetype as an instructor is 'ice cold bitch' and I do not intend to change it” You can't help but smile. “So, now let's get to business. It's like clay that he molds with his very thoughts. You find your own musings interrupted as the Professor points directly at you and says "You with the long hair and sleep deprivation. Go" You blink for a second, mouth open, about to ask what the question was when you recall. "You're Kassidy Sa" You stop yourself before you say Savage. You know her real name, it was something that Constantne taught you after you brought the news story regarding Vandal Savage to him. About that mass murderer who somehow managed to kill a bunch of swat guys using just his bare hands. John had informed you that not everything supernatural was magical...some of it simply existed. "ge. Kassidy Sage" You note your professor's slight smile at your hesitance, but choose to pretend as if you didn't. "You helped catch a bunch of Metahuman and other noteworthy killers. You're some sort of profiling genius and, assuming the rumors are true, something of an expert marksman" Professor Sage nods her head, obviously pleased with your answer. "What's your name, keener?" "Charlie. Charlie Dennet" "Hmm. Class, I suggest you keep an eye out for Mr. Dennet. Something tells me he might be worth paying some attention to" She then turns back to the white board and begins to write something. You take out your binder of lined paper, but before you can write anything, someone pokes you in the back and you glance over your shoulder to find Duela sitting there, smiling nervously at you. That, and most of the glass for the entrance is completely shattered. For a moment you consider just stepping past the tape and going to the elevators, but you decide to honor the sign someone put up and make your way over to the side doors where a man in a security guard outfit nods at you politely and opens the door. You soon find yourself just outside of the Tomaz's apartment. The door opens soon after you knock and Adrianna greets you with her typical monotone. "Hello Charlie" "Hi Adrianna" "Have you captured the man with the tattoos?" "Huh?" "The man who sent the demon-dog after my brother." "Oh. No, not yet....Could I have the dog?" "No. I believe you slayed the demon-dog, so I cannot give it to you" "I meant the dog that was inside of the Hellhound, Adrianna" "Oh. Yes. You may have that dog....in the future, you should specify which of a species you are referring to if there are more than one examples available" You roll your eyes and Adrianna snaps her fingers and soon the dog rushes into view to stand beside her. "Have a nice night, Charlie" She sort of nudges the dog out of the doorway with her foot and then closes the door after it. As you step past Duela's home, you find your way forward cut off as someone consistently steps in front of you. Deep in thought, you fail to recognize Stephanie Brown at first. She smiles as realization dawns on your face and scratches Quintus behind the ear as he circles around you to stand beside her. "Hey Charlie! Are you not paying D a visit tonight? Hmm? You frown and though you want to just pass the buck onto Steph, you decide that, perhaps, a bit of responsibility lies with you in this case. "Umm, so you know Walters?" "Who the hell is Walters?" Your frown deepens and you begin to question her intentions a fair bit. Stephanie smiles reassuringly at you and extracts her cellphone which she uses to call someone. Turning the call to speakerphone. In a moment, you hear the familiar voice of Walters and Stephanie and he begin a conversation. "What do you want, Brown?" "Great hear from you too! Yeah, no, I'm doing okay. Thanks for asking. You're so considerate" "I don't have time for your idiocy; what do you want?" "I have Quintus" "...What?" "I know the guy who found your dog and now I have Quintus" "Is he okay?" "He's fine. What do you want me to do with him?" "Drop him off at my father's. Also, make sure that the fellow who found him is rewarded" "Uh, Act-" Stephanie soon finds herself cut off as the phone call ends and she sighs. "Sorry, I uh, I actually have to go somewhere so...um, you go on to D's without me" And she begins to walk away with Quintus. >A. Visit Duela. Waving at Steph, you walk over to the front door of Duela's residence and knock. This time, the wait for someone to answer the door is actually long enough that you feel compelled to, politely, knock again. After a few moments, the door opens to reveal it is none other than Duela herself. She is wearing a Elliot University sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants, again. She yelps once she sees that it is you and closes the door before you can finish greeting her."Eep!" "He-" SLAM You stand there, glancing one way up the street then the other. You prepare to knock again but the door opens to reveal Duela now wearing a winter coat over her clothes and looking less than pleased. "What are you doing here?" "I ran into Stephanie on the street and then a thing with a dog happened and now she's gone off somewhere with the dog" "What sort of thing with a dog?" "I found a dog and i- Actually, were you going somewhere?" "Huh? Oh, um, Yes. Kind of. "No" She rolls her eyes and then points down the street "Come back in the next fifteen minutes or I'm leaving without you, but grab a change of clothes. Don't be the guy who works out in jeans...please. And bring a water bottle" You nod and then begin walking to your home, smiling to yourself. It seems you've actually managed to find someone you don't mind working out with and she knows what she's doing. Which is nice, because, honestly, you've never REALLY worked out before. You walk into the apartment to find Anita once more furiously tapping away at a laptop as Cissie and Bart cook and Lil Lobo seems to be playing Halo. From the sheer quantity of 'Bastitches' he's managing to work into his insults, you're pretty sure he's playing online. Cissie and Bart are having far too much fun...actually, are they flirting? They'd make a cute pair, those two, but you really aren't interested in having a pair of teenagers hooking up at your house. You'll have to be the lame friend later this week, if it becomes an issue. You make it to your room and back without incident and soon you are wearing sweats of your own and a t-shirt and you ahve a change of clothes in your backpack. Just like high school gym. The walk back to Duela's is without incident and soon enough the two of you are walking into the Campus Gym after having discussed some basic ideas Duela has about the gym. Despite Duela spotting you and giving you what seems to be quality advice, you struggle throughout the workout she seems to have prepared for you, despite it seeming quite barebones. She takes you from the Bench Press to the Squat Rack and then to Sit Ups and Deadlifts and so on. You kind of got the impression she wasn't as much trying to get you to complete a workout as much as figuring out just how strong you were. Whenever you were done with an exercise she would jump right onto the station and crank out her own sets. And she held nothing back, so, despite her demeanor as a meek girl, you're fairly certain that Duela is actually stronger than you...or most people. It was all very telling, but of what, you still aren't sure. On the walk back home, Duela reveals that she and Stephanie actually work out almost every single day. Which is why she brought the protein powder and the granola bar to the gym with her, to help her cope with tomorrow's workout. You only brought water, so you feel rather shaky. "I suggest you buy some protein powder yourself, Charlie. Good effort tonight; hopefully, you'll be ready for tomorrow too" And with that, she leaves you to walk yourself home. "Actually, Gotham has the lowest large scale breakout rate of any city with a dedicated metahuman incarceration program" Bart chimes in, without looking away from the screen. He does not wait for anyone else to offer any sign of interest in this topic before continuing. "Gotham does have quite a few more singular breakouts. Interestingly, most Gotham Breakouts are actually tied with a DECREASE in homocides. I've always thought of it as a sort of 'Apex Predator' concept. It's all very interesting, if statistics are your thing" He goes quiet again, leaving you and Anita to glance at one another before turning back to the screen. "Look, the point is, this will either keep the government goons off our trail or get them in Gotham in a hurry. But, honestly? I don't think we should be worrying about Amanda Waller's costumed loser squad" Cissie turns to face Anita, frowning."Why not?" Lil Lobo chmes in as well, obviously equally confused. "I dunno Emp. >>45572358Gotta study, too. Can't focus on just one responsibility.
>>45572377It's literally sending one email. It's that easy. What is your problem anon?
>>45572390I know it's really easy, and I'm kinda continuing this for shits & giggles.I don't wanna see Charlie flunk out, though.
>1You get into your room and rifle through your backpack, taking out the workout clothes and the water bottle...and the....Where's your binder? Feeling something akin to panic being birthed in your chest, you begin to rummage through your backpack with far more force, throwing things across the room, turning the backpack upside down and shaking it. But alas, it is no avail. You can't find your binder which means, ALL of your notes are gone. With the exception of the very scant notes that Duela gave to you to study with, all of your notes from your semester at Metropolis U are gone as are the ones you made this class. You can study, perhaps, two classes worth of material, which is nowhere near enough. OH shit. >A. Try the change room at the Campus Gym >B. Screw it. Study with what you've got (Studying will now yield slower results)>C. Call Duela to help you out >D. Practice Magic while you're up here >E. Email Black Adam and Thaddeus about Amon
>>45572413>A. Try the change room at the Campus GymBut before we go>E. Email Black Adam and Thaddeus about Amon
>>45572413>E. Email Black Adam and Thaddeus about Amon
>>45572413Not really sure why the email is even it's own option when it would only take a minute or two tops, and given how important it could be it really should be packed into one of the other options, just sayin.>A. Try the change room at the Campus Gym
>>45572413>E. Email Black Adam and Thaddeus about AmonTry a scrying spell to figure out where the binder is
>>45572473>Try a scrying spellWe don't have one.
>>45572413>A. Try the change room at the Campus Gym >E. Email Black Adam and Thaddeus about Amon
>>45572413>>A. Try the change room at the Campus Gymand also>>E. Email Black Adam and Thaddeus about Amon
>>45572509I know. Surely we could figure one out though. That's like magic 101
>>45572413Typing up the email isn't particularly difficult, nor is it difficult to send it to Thaddeus. However, just as you are about to close your laptop, a message from Thaddeus pops up on the screen. He's using the Qmail messenger. You know the one. The one that adds someone as a contact if you send them an email. God, you hate that feature. Thaddeus seems to want to talk. You don't particularly like Thaddeus, but at the same time, he's not ALL bad, so you decide to postpone your trip back to the Change room and humor him. BigBadThad2 – We nd 2 tlkCdenn21 – Sup?BigBadThad2 – There's a girl in the council room Cdenn21 – What? BigBadThad2 – There's some little girl in the council room. Cdenn21 – Tell her to leave BigBadThad2 – She says she can't. Not until she sees you BigBadThad2 – Hurry up and come get your girlfriend out of the Council Room Cdenn21 – I don't know how to do that Cdenn 21 – And she's not my girlfriendBigBadThad2 – Just say the word and go spirit mode According to the big guy Hurry up Looks like the new Shazam team has a visitor who is requesting your presence. And now you know how to get to the Rock of Eternity! All you have to do is say Shazam and Astrally Project....according to Thad. >A. Go for it. This is more important than your grades >B. The little girl will still be there by the time you find your binder, right?
>>45572629>A. Go for it. This is more important than your grades
>>45572629>>A. Go for it. This is more important than your grades
>>45572629>>A. Go for it. This is more important than your gradescome on...Death!
maybe she knows where your binder is!
You make sure to hit the restroom really quick and grab a drink of water from your bottle before jumping into bed. You say Shazam at the same moment that you slip free from your physical body and in a flash, both literally and figuratively, you understand. You have BECOME the lightning. You become speed and energy and light and you rocket past any boundaries that the universe might impose upon you. In fact, you break free of the universe. You rocket through and over and around and past and you are in the Rock of Eternity once more. Climbing to your feet, you always seem to either be flat on your face or on your hands and knees when you arrive in here. You begin walking towards the Council Room, from which you can hear several people speaking all at once. As you enter the room, you note that all the usual suspects are there, as well as a young bi-racial girl who seems kind of shell-shocked and dirty. She looks oddly familiar, but you push the thought to the back of your mind as she bursts into a huge smile at your arrival. “Are YOU Charlie!?” She asks, jumping off the odd stone throne in the center of the semi-circle. Billy smiles at you and steps away from the girl freeing her path as she steps to you. “Uh, yeah. Who's asking?” “Wow. You're really big” You resist the urge to say 'That's what she said' to what appears to be a nine year old and instead “Well, yeah. I'm a bit older than you” “I guess....Um, so, when are you going to save me?” You frown and look about the room. Thaddeus looks sickly and angry, as per the last time you saw him. Black Adam is sitting in one of the thrones, casually observing while Billy looks just as surprised as you. He leans in to whisper in your ear “Are you a hero?” “What? No.” “Oh” Part 1
>>45572835The girl interrupts by reaching out her hand. “Um. My daddy said if I asked you, you'd come help me if I ever needed help. I couldn't get to my phone before they took it away, but I thought REALLY hard about you and then I was here and now you're here. So that's good too” You are having a fair bit of trouble making sense of what this kid is saying “I'm sorry. Who is your dad? And better yet, who are you?” The girl nods suddenly and then slaps herself in the forehead theatrically. It's honestly adorable. “D'Oh!. I'm sorry. My name is Rose and my daddy said if you asked I was supposed to say...um, don't tell him I cussed, but I was supposed to say 'John Bleedin Constantine'.” The girl smiles up at you and you note that she seems to be missing some of her front teeth. But that is a thought far from the forefront of your mind. This girl is John Constantine's daughter. And she needs your help
>>45572843>This girl is John Constantine's daughter. And she needs your help
>>45572835>inb4 Dick Grayson is killed by a rock
>>45572835>>45572843God damn it not more of this bullshit. Can't we study, practice magic, and gain money by shady gray-area tier activities to pay rent? Why we gotta do this questing and saving the world shit, our grades suck enough as it is.
>>45572921Exactly.This is starting to get like Peter Parker Quest, where we have too much shit to deal with.
>>45572921At least we ain't JJ with his whole Typhon bullshit
>>45572936JJ can deal with that if the players agree to do T3, so they're on an equal-ish footing. And if it goes like the Zeus v.s. Typhon myth, then JJ's gonna smack a bitch down.

>>45572969>CONGRATULATIONS! You lost your binder of notes! Coolio! >>45572985>>45572969>You lost your binder of notes! Coolio! From now on, studying will yield less effective resultsSorry about that. Will asking Duela for help with notes make that downside go away?
>>45572921That's the problem with a lot of questsThe MC ends up being pulled in too many directions and everything turns into an attempt to manage time and resourcesWhen it should be spent doing cool shit
>>45572985Mfw >>45572987Yes. It'll take a relatively easy rapport check, but she'd be willing to help Charlie out. >>45572982Going to take fairly regular visits to the gym for Charlie to make his way out of Skeleton mode >>45572921Most of the 'Major' plot stuff regarding Charlie only does so Tangentially. Charlie isn't a part of Young Justice, so the JLA isn't looking for him. Charlie isn't part of the Justice League so the political stuff is irrelevant. Criminals from Arkham aren't trying to kill him in particular, he just lives in Gotham. The plots DIRECTLY involving Charlie are: Phantom New Year Incident and his involvement, which has yet to prove any issue for him besides what he is imposing on himselfSelina Kyle wants him to work as part of her security team His family and school issuesRose wants his help New Shazam Recruitment Team
>>45573035Well let's hope we can resolve issues faster than they pop up.We gotta get dem Gradez and dat RentAnd maybe get some Swole and zome Zapmuthafucka
>>45572985more like "stick grapes up your ass. 5 ft of detection per grape"
>>45573035Isn't the Thule stuff also directly related? I mean they must know he stopped their hellhound, and the giant magic spirit battery is clearly bad news.
>>45573035I think the problem some are having is that five distinct plot lines are still too many If it was just New Shazam Recruitment that would be fine, help Rose great, mysterious New York shit coolbut all of those at the same time tends to confuse thingsdon't get me wrong i like the thread it just feels a little busy
>>45573071>>45573035I sorta like it, and a lot of it isn't as much of a plot line as it is a character development point. Don't get me wrong, I do think it's a bit busy, (especially the Selina Kyle stuff, but that might just be personal preference) but it does feel very comic booky, which is something I like a lot about this quest.
>>45573035>>45573071That and having to study constantly to not flunk out.
>>45573035I'd suggest that when these plotlines start to come to a close, change it so that there's one constant, super important, overarching plotline, one that's more relevant to personal relationships, and one temporary, less important plotline. I'm pretty certain that would work pretty well, especially if you want to go for a comicbook-like feel.
>>45573098I think the problem is it's too much like a comicCharlie seems to be appearing in like five different books instead of his own ongoing and we don't have the convenience of HYPERTIME to do everything at once
>>45573127when does the big stupid event happen and hijacks the focus of Charlie's story?
>>45573162Probably when that spirit-binding guy gets enough mojo to do his thing.
>>45573162The reason we're trying to find a replacement for The Worlds Mightiest Mortal is because Darkseid is on his way to Earth
>>45573162I kinda wanna see a /co/ quest now that accurately represents comics. Oh, a really awesome plotline that's been built up for dozens of issues is finally reaching a climax? Well, instead of that, we're going to push you into a shitty crossover event where everyone acts like complete dipshits to give everyone excuses to fight eachother. It would be incredible in a terrible sort of way.
>>45573162I dunno, seems like 'Robin War' is imminent, but that's a kinda low-tier crossover event. I guess the big event would be Darkseid. Which probably comes just as we're about to finish up the Shazam quest.
>>45573175yeah we should probably keep an eye on that guy since I have a feeling he's going to be causing a lot of problems for us. And on that note maybe we should start charging people if we don't feel like fighting him directly and decide just to deal with his side effects while waiting for someone else to deal with it. Not very heroic sure but unless we get some kick ass powers soon I don't think it's something we can handle.Speaking of powers would we get a bonus if we practice magic at the rock of eternity or no?
>>45573198We could tackle him as a training exercise for our new Shazam once we get around to inducting him properly.
