>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

"Are you sure you can't tell me any more than this, Impa?" you ask your attendant.

"There is nothing more that you need to know about the Shadow Temple, Princess." she responds in a melancholic tone. "It is a something that I, as a Shiekah, must do."

"You've used that excuse more times than I like, Impa." you grumble slightly, picking up your bag.

"It does not make it any less valid." she responds as she picks up several bags of her own, then forces a smile. "I will make it out of there and return to you. I promise." As the two of you exit your home, feeling somehow emptier as you walk out the door, Impa hands the key to the house over to you. "...I know it's not much, but it's still home to... us. Come back whenever you need to."

"I will." you tell her with a nod. "Impa... before you go, one more question?"

"Yes, Princess?"

"The Gerudo... do you know anything more on them? Might you be able to tell if they can give us more information on Ganon, or... his allies?" You feel just a little awkward asking that, don't want to make any assumptions, but any information you can gather on this will help you in the long run.

Impa rubs her chin. "The Gerudo, at least outwardly, do not believe your father caused the death of that boy. They have rebuilt their strength, many of them acting as mercenaries during the war for whatever factions could afford them, most fighting against Ganon when he showed his monstrous face. They do not follow him, 'intended' king or not. They are still rather exclusive, though you may do better dealing with them than most others seeking their aid. However, I would suggest you learn to steel yourself first. The Gerudo value strength of body as well as strength of mind and strength of will. Signs of weakness will be harshly scrutinized."

You nod in affirmation. "Then I will do just that, Impa. thank you."

You watch as she leaves in the direction of Kakoriko. You... feel this heaviness in your heart for a moment, and wait to let it pass. It's finally really hitting you. You're on your own now. You take out a map of Hyrule. You could head north to Kakoriko, maybe on to the Goron City after that. To the west is Lon Lon Ranch and Castle Town. East, Zora's Domain. And then to the south there's the Lost Woods, with south-west to Ordona and Ordon Town, near Lake Hylia. It's still early in the day, but you'll only make it to one place in any reasonable amount of time...

It's probably not too far away. You'll head west, hoping to reach Lon Lon Ranch by just after noon, and then maybe head towards Castle Town from there. You don't waste any time in heading there, picking up the pace only when you need to. Along the way you can tell things are a good deal less... friendly than you'd have liked. While nothing heads after you immediately, you do notice some monsters in the distance that seem to be observing your movements. You're being watched by them. Still, you make it to Lon Lon Ranch without much incident.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vssIo3ZF0VE

As you climb the low hill up to the ranch, you're a bit surprised by it. The place is large, and could easily almost count for a small village in and of itself. You can hear the sounds of farm animals nearby, with a few Cuccos visible near the inner area. A voice greets you as you walk in.

"Hey, you're that Termina girl, the one who saved my sister, aren't you?" a redheaded Hylian girl about your age asks, carrying several bottles of milk with her. You recall the girl's name, Malon, the middle sister of the three. "What brings you here?"

"I am on my way to Castle Town, just up north, and felt that I could stop here for a short while." you respond, looking around. "Is your family around, Miss Malon?"

She seems surprised you remember her name, then nods in the direction of the largest non-barn building. "We just got back from delivery to Lake Town a little while ago. Pa's working out the orders with Ma' for the Castle Town tomorrow." She then nods in the direction of the field. "My other sisters are tending the horses. Captain Douglas's coming by soon, and he'll probably want to check on his stallion." She walks with you towards a building. "The rest of our workers are all tending to their duties."

"Sounds like you get visitors often." you comment, carefully avoiding bumping into one of the Cuccos.

"The horse races have gotten popular in the last few years, once things settled down." she says with a laugh. "Nobody's been able to beat Captain Douglas's record, though. There's also the archery contest and shooting gallery, lil' Romani's gotten a surge of interest in those. Of course I have no idea where she got that from." she comments with a bit of a sly grin. "Anyway, some soldiers and mercenaries come by from time to time, but often it's just merchants."

Interesting. "You mentioned other workers, are you taking more on?" Can't hurt to ask, and a few more Rupees in the wallet wouldn't hurt either...

"Well, you'd probably have to ask Pa' that, but so far we've got enough folks. Anyway, I gotta get these put away, Miss Termina." She walks into the building with the milk, you opening the door for her to help her out. Well, let's see... there are some shops here too. Might not hurt to get some food before you go out, you haven't eaten since this morning.

You look towards the central field. Without a doubt, there's little Romani, brushing one of the horses, her eldest sister pulling two towards a feeding tray. The instant the girl spots you, she bolts in your direction, skipping gleefully. "Miss Termina! Miss Termina!"

"Hello, Romani." you respond kindly. "Are you doing well?"

"I'm doing great! Pa's let me practice with the bow! Wanna see wanna see?!" she practically shouts out at you.

"Sis, please." Cremia asks in an exhausted tone. "It's rude."

"Ah, it's fine, Miss Cremia." you respond, kneeling down to Romani's level. "It is good that you got permission from your parents first. And I wouldn't mind seeing how well you are doing, if that is okay with your family."

"Great! Come on, come on! I'll show you." she says, grabbing you by the wrist and trying to run over to a crate with a bow and several arrow on it, a target with a few arrows sticking out of it already. Some of them centered, most close to the center, a couple on the ground.

"Romani!" her sister yells as she tries to catch up to you both. "You do not pull away people like that."

"But I wanna show her!" the girl protests. You let them know that you're okay, but reinforce to Romani that is a bit rude. She humbly apologizes, then gives you a demonstration of her archery skills. They're... not too bad for a beginner, but she seems to have trouble adjusting for wind direction. To help her out, you tell her the trick Impa had you learn when you were first practicing with the crossbow, checking wind direction with your finger. She tries it herself, and her accuracy improves a fair amount.

You pat the kid on the head and tell her that she's doing good, but shouldn't neglect other duties for it, something her sister seems to appreciate. After that, you head into the small inn on the farm, getting yourself some food. Once there, you spot some interesting sights. There's that Goron from a couple days ago, talking with some of the farm workers. A... boy? Young man? Some Hylian in a purple tunic, talking with people who seem a bit older than him, all looking like merchants, one of them a tall Deku Scrub. And finally, a couple soldiers conversing about Castle Town, from the sound of it.

You get a small meal for five Rupees and then walk towards the merchants. Their conversation is... interesting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hpXOykDj3w

"I'm telling you, the swamp properties' values are only going to go down unless something is done with the infestations!" the Deku merchant declares.

"But think of all the valuables! Why, in a day a man could make a fortune from the Swamp Clams alone!" a middle-aged merchant argues.

"The same Swamp Clams that can take your arm off?" the younger man in purple questions. "It's a market that will collapse soon anyway with the more monsters that've been seen recently. Stalfos have been appearing closer and closer to the swamp. And furthermore-" he stops when he spots you approaching them, giving you an awkward look. You yourself feel a little strange as you get a better look at him. Seems like you've seen this person before... "...can I help you, ma'am?"

Quickly looking around, you spot several bottles of lantern oil on the table. "Ah, just wondering if that's for sale-"

They immediately grin at you. "Twenty-five Rupees." the Deku merchant tells you.

"Twenty!" declares the man.

"I'll sell you mine for fifteen, provided you tell me what you're really after." the purple merchant tells you.

"Viol you can't make a profit like that!" the man grumbles.

"Watch and learn, old man." he says with a smile. "Fifteen. I know an adventurer when I see them. Let me guess at your destination. Lake Hylia? Castle Town? You look like you've come from Kakoriko..." He leans back in his chair, a bit of a smug smile on his face. "How close am I?"

"Someone seems well-traveled themselves." you respond calmly, tossing him three blue Rupees. "I'm curious, just how much have you traveled?"

"More than you'd think, kid." Viol responds as he picks up the blue- wait, did he just call you "kid?" How... old is this guy, exactly? He's shorter than you, and looks younger. "Still haven't answered my question."

"You seem to think you're good at guessing." you tell him, pulling up a chair. "I'm just stopping here on my way to my destination, been traveling since this morning. Won't be here for too long-"

"Ah, so Kakoriko it is." he says with a soft chuckle. "Your poncho seems more like their wear, and a stroll from there to here would take about this much time. Let's see... if you're stopping here from Kakoriko, you're probably headed north, but not too far. Lake Town would run you the risk of getting caught after dusk, and by the look of your boots, you've been traveling on foot." He twirls a finger through his hair. "Am I wrong to say you're going for Castle Town?"

You're just a bit impressed by the young man's deductions. You'd be more impressed if he didn't sound so smug about it. "A sharp eye you have."

"You need one when you're in a business like mine." He pushes the lantern oil to you. "Viol, at your service, Miss...?"

"Termina." you tell him calmly, taking the lantern oil. The other two merchants seem to be kicking themselves over how quickly he got that.

"Well, as it seems you're on your way to Castle Town, how about we help each other?" he asks. "You look like you can handle yourself fairly competently for a girl your age, and I'd appreciate an escort. Help me out, and I can give you a discount at my shop over there. Intriguing offer, but you're just a tad suspicious. "Tell me something first, you clearly sell more than lantern oil. What discounts am I looking at here, exactly? And what do you need me to do?"

He grins wide. "Clever, clever. Half off my wares. Bombs, bombchus, explosives bag, wallets, quivers, shields and some sets of boots, clothes, armors... all the things an adventurer like yourself could want. Just help me get to Castle Town, and the discounts are yours."

"Viol come now, that's a bit much even for you." the Deku merchant declares. "How are you going to make any kind of money like that, you're practically giving those things away!"

Well, works for you. You hold out your hand. "Deal."

The two of you shake. "Excellent, let me grab my things, and we'll be off."

You wait for the young man to pick up a rather large bag, almost as big as him, with impressive ease, and follow him out. As you go, Talon and his wife manage to spot you, and have a friendly chat as you leave with the man. Once you're out of Lon Lon Ranch, Viol turns to you with a curious look on his face. "Tell me, Miss Termina, how old are you, exactly?"

"Turned sixteen a couple months ago." you respond, looking towards Castle Town. "And you?"

He raises an eyebrow. "Twenty-three. So you're barely an adult. Odd that a girl like yourself is traveling on her own."

You can't help but frown at what he's implying, that little- wait. Twenty-three? Goddesses he doesn't look it. You don't really have much time to ponder his age more as you spot something in the distance. Bokoblins, three of them.

"Viol, stay back." you draw your crossbow as you spot them starting to circle around you. "Looks like someone wants a fight. Probably after your bag. Unless you intend to help out, follow my lead."

He watches calmly, staying behind you as you walk forwards. "Those things have an unhealthy obsession with picking fights they can't win." he muses.

The three Bokoblins get closer and closer, large, rough blades in their hands. The moment one decided to try and run at you, it gets a crossbow bolt right in the forehead, falling face-first on the ground and vanishes in a blast of blackened mist. The sight causes the other two to pause at what just happened, long enough for each of them to get a crossbow bolt in their arm and leg.

The purple-clad merchant lets out a soft whistle as he sees you work. "Not bad, not bad at all."

You turn to Viol. "You should be going. I can handle thi-AGH!" One of the Bokoblins tackles at you, knocking you to the ground. You fire your crossbow at its neck, but before you can get yourself up the other is over you, blade raised. You instinctively reach for your sword to block, but it catches and smacks at your hand.

You feel a shiver of fear travel down your spine... then watch as both of the injured monsters are stabbed, one after the other, and kicked aside. They vanish in the same puff of black mist, Viol standing over you with a sword drawn. "Seems you're still a bit new at this, kid." He returns his blade to its sheathe and offers a hand to help you up. "But points for initiative and bravado."

You feel a hint of embarrassment as you take his hand, your own still stinging slightly from the attack. "...you're more than just a merchant, aren't you?"

The man in purple goes quiet, looking away for a moment. "...just a man trying to make up for the mistakes of his youth, Miss Termina. Trying to make sure others don't repeat them." He looks back at you with a serious expression, eyes harsh, almost critically locked on you. "And you?"

You keep yourself focused as you respond, telling him calmly, "A girl trying to make up for her father's mistakes. To keep those mistakes from hurting others."

He raises an eyebrow as the two of you walk. "...and you feel that you have to? Why?"

"Because I chose to." you reply sternly. "Even if I am not personally responsible, I will make up for what he's done."

You pick up the pace and head to Castle Town. Along the way you slash at some shrubs, managing to recover your health, along with some bit of dignity after that rather embarrassing incident. And a few Rupees along the way, bringing your total up to 130. As you travel with Viol, you get a little curious. "Has anyone else mad... 'mistakes' like the ones you want people to avoid repeating?"

He shakes his head. "No. Just... a foolish boy who was poor in courage and was rich in jealousy." he responds cryptically.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSoTsfU102o

As you reach Castle Town, you're surprised by how busy it is. Your memories of it as a child don't even compare, it's bustling, busy, almost thriving, in spite of the ruins of Hyrule Castle looming over it like a phantom. Viol says his hellos to a few people along the way, heading to the center of the town, with a rather beautiful fountain in the center. People gather around it seem to be going about their business and- ...wait a second. You spot someone in a dress near the fountain. It's... a boy? Wait, that's YOUR dress! That... what?!

Viol notices you staring at him. "Hrgh. He's at it again. Ignore Lokom over there, he... does that."

"Why." you less ask and more just kind of grumble out.

"Says he found it a while back while searching through the castle, might be one of Princess Zelda's dresses. He thinks he looks 'good' in it." Viol replies, heading into his shop.

You force yourself in with him, and are pleasantly surprised to see he wasn't kidding. The place is stocked with tons of useful equipment. Things that stick out to you the most are the Explosives Bag, Hylian Shield, and a larger Wallet. They're listed at 200, 50, and 300, each.

"Well, we made it here in one piece, so the deal stands. Half-off. What'll it be?"

Get some bombs to go with it?

You basically empty your wallet onto the counter in front of Viol as you pick up the [Explosives Bag], [Hylian Shield], and top it off with 5 bombs, just for good measure. He's more than happy to take the Rupees you're giving him, smiling as he hands over the purchased equipment. "A pleasure doing business with you, Miss Termina."

As you pack your newly purchased items, you look at Viol curiously. "I take it you know some things about the town. Any interesting places around?"

He leans back casually. "Well, there are a few places. You have the Shooting Gallery, Mystery Treasure, Rosa Tavern, and Castle Tours, all of those are popular. I think you yourself could benefit from a visit to Shachi's Dojo, or perhaps Orco's library, if that's more your thing." Looking around, he calls you closer, then whispers into your ear. "But if you're off to do what I think you are, you might want to take a visit to the Great Fairy Fountain by the castle."

Curious. So he knows about them. Well, where should you head next?

>Shachi
You thank Viol for the advice, and then head where he points out the direction of the dojo to be. Making your way through the crowds, catching a glimpse of that... kid... again, you pass by a few more shops and end up at a odd-looking building, contrasting the ones around it, wooden and seeming like it belongs to someone from an entirely different country. And for some reason it has this strange, ocean breeze scent around it. As you first knock on the door, then head in upon finding it unlocked, you spot an elderly man sitting in the middle of the floor.

"Hrmnh. Can't you read? Sessions are over until tomorrow." the old man grunts at you, eyes closed as he sits perfectly still.

"Ah, my apologies, the door was unlocked." you reply calmly. "Might you be Shachi?"

"I am, girl." he grunts again. "And what business do you have with me?"

"The merchant Viol told me you may be able to help me." you give honestly, kneeling down to his level. "I am-"

"VIOL!" he hollers, eyes opening wide. "Feh! That dumb kid knows better than to send me more 'prospective students,' why I oughta-" He stops his rant as soon as he sees you clearly, jaw dropping. "...he didn't. You... tell me, girl, what is your name?"

You back up just a little defensively. "...Termina."

The old man sighs. "Then... no. Nevermind. Feh. All right girl, I'll tell you this: if you think you're worth learning skills from me, prove it." He stands, grabbing a wooden sword from the shelf and tossing it to you, then grabbing one of his own. "Three strikes. Successful ones. You manage it, I may consider it. You fail, and take three strikes yourself, try again tomorrow."

He steps forward, both hands on his wooden blade, then bows. You do the same, then take your stance carefully. You think back, recalling everything Impa taught you about swordplay. Deep breath, Zelda.

"BEGIN!"

The old man charges at you with surprising speed for his age, wooden sword ready. You stand your ground, and as soon as he's in range, duck under him, rolling out of the way, and strike at him on the back. He reels back more in surprise than in pain. A smile appears on his face, himself now taking a defensive stance. You watch him carefully, paying attention to his slightest movements, and then time your next strike as best you can, first feinting a blow from above, only to quickly change it to a side strike. Another direct hit.

The old man rubs the place you struck him, then backflips away from you, holding his sword to his side. You... feel something start to build up around the blade. "If you think you have what it takes, then stop this!"

Suddenly, something in you just seems to... snap into place. "RRAAAAAHHH!" you shout as you move like water away from him as he spins, letting out a swirl of energy with his blade, and quickly jab your sword at him. It doesn't connect... except it does. Somehow, you... threw something out of your sword, a blast of force. You can barely even comprehend what you just did as the old man tumbles backwards. You pant heavily as you watch him lay there for a moment, fearing you've injured him.

Then you hear him start laughing. Laughing joyfully.

"Hahahaha! You... in all my years, to think that..." He slowly pushes himself up. "Girl... who taught you the Sword Beam?"

You look at the wooden blade. "I... nobody did! It... it just... happened!" you shout out, in a slight panic. You then drop the blade and immediately run over to the old man, helping him up, asking if he's hurt. He just laughs it off, reassuring you he's had worse getting out of bed some mornings. You sigh in relief. "Ah... Mister Shachi, what, exactly, was that sword spin technique you just did?"

He takes his wooden sword and the one you dropped and returns them to their proper shelves. "The Spin Attack is something that few sword fighters have mastered, even in its most basic form. Even fewer have learned how to properly use the Sword Beam like that, but you claim to have learned it... just like that?"

You nod reservedly. "I... do not know how I did so."

The old man rubs his chin. "...your name isn't really Termina, is it?"

You markedly refuse to answer that, instead turning back to your initial question. "Sir, how may I learn such a skill?"

He laughs joyfully. "After what you did, the question isn't 'how,' but 'how haven't you.' Girl... attempt to do what you just did, again, focusing your strength around your blade, and then swinging it, letting yourself flow with the sword." He backs up slightly. "And use your own blade this time."

You take a stance similar to the one he took, your own blade in your hand. You take a deep breath and try to feel that same sort of feeling you did. It takes a moment, but finally you grasp hold of it. You feel power flow from you into your sword, energy building up around it. With a powerful yell, you spin with it, your body and blade feeling like they're connected somehow as a swirl of energy spins around you.

Shachi claps and shouts a "Haha!" in joy. "Girl, I told you that you could do it! So you can use magic freely, can you?"

You look over your sword for a moment, really taking all this in, then put it back in its sheathe. "I... am still a novice with any magical skills."

"Novice?! Fah! Come now, girl, no novice could do something like that." He tilts his head, rubbing his chin. "Ahh, that's it... you've come for the Great Fairy, haven't you?" The man then looks out the window, noticing the sun sinking into the horizon. "A word of advice if that's your goal, the monsters have gotten more irritable around here at night as of late. Wait until morning, spend the night at Rosa Tavern's Inn. Then go on your little way."

The main inn might be a bit pricey for a nascent chosen one. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to ask around if there's a more economical alternative that's still in the safe part of town.

You humbly bow your head to Shachi. "Thank you, Sir. I shall do that." You leave the man's Dojo and make your way to some grass near the pathway to the castle, before the sun sets, to grab a few extra Rupees just in case you need them. To your luck, you get a grand total of 41 Rupees... 20 of which end up going towards overnight stay at Rosa Tavern's Inn.

"Thanks for your patronage." the lady at the Tavern's entrance tells you, putting away the Rupees you gave her. As you walk in, you see all sorts of folks around there. A few Zora conversing over a human, non-Hylian woman who apparently has been desperately trying to gain passage into the Zora's Domain. A group of Gorons can be overheard talking about a boy in red trying to scale Death Mountain on his own, and apparently succeeding in spite of the risks involved. A few soldiers meanwhile mention that a young Gerudo girl with freakish strength held off an entire band of thieves and bandits attempting to attack a convoy headed from Lake Town to Ordon Town, even rather mercilessly slaughtering a large monster that attempted to attack the convoy. Lastly, there's that Deku merchant from Lon Lon Ranch, talking with a couple other people you don't recognize, and you can overhear him mention Viol hiring a young adventurer to help him on his way back to Castle Town.

You walk over to the soldiers with a curious expression on your face. "I'd think it's not too uncommon a sight that Gerudo come to Lake Town for work, it isn't too far from the desert, am I right?"

"Usually they're at least a full-grown adult, this was just a kid! No more than thirteen!" one of the soldiers exclaims, then does a double-take as he notices you. "...and who might you be, kid?"

"Termina. Just a traveler from Kakoriko." you respond calmly, taking a seat with the soldiers. "What else do you know of this girl?"

"And just what do you want with some freakishly strong, young Gerudo firecracker?" a more slender, young, pretty-boy of a soldier questions somewhat accusingly. An uncomfortably sly grin creeps across his face. "Planning on learning something from them, kid? Ooooh, or are you one of those types who enjoy the, eheh, warm embrace of the desert win-"

(cont.)
>>
>>45630433
A fist finishes that sentence for him, belonging to a more round, older soldier. "That's enough outta you, Paul. Every time... apologies, Miss Termina. His mouth has a bad habit of being rather crass around pretty young girls like yourself."

You... are going to ignore most of that while the other man picks himself up off the floor, moaning in pain, and reiterate your question. "What do you know of this girl?"

"Last I heard, her name was Aveli." the older, rounder soldier tells you. "Seems to be a rare one among the Gerudo, some features more typical of Hylians than most of her tribe. Hair blonde as the sands, unlike the usual blazing red. No idea how much truth there is to tales of her strength, but if even half of what's been told is true, best to avoid ever getting on her bad side. Might even be one of those Iron Knuckles in training. Probably will be in Ordona for the next few days. Is there a reason you're interested in finding out about her, Miss?"

"My aunt told me they might be able to help me find something, any way I might be able to get them to cooperate better is going to help me in the long run." you explain rather vaguely. "I thank you sirs for your time."

You leave the table as night starts to truly set in, heading to the room you were given. As you get inside, laying down on the rather comfortable bed, you think things over as you attempt to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day...
