Knock knock.

..

Knock Knock.

"What's the password."
"Lart me in now or I blow the hinges."

"Close enough."

The door swings open, and Axel is already standing at the ready just inside. He has those pretty brass gauntlets on.

Instead, in walks a very stern and mostly-intoxicated face. Ugh.

"Aye, coast is clear."

Axel puts his fists down. "You serious!?"

"Sure am."

Axel almost looks like he wants to throw his arms around Jack at this moment. Jack instead pushes him away.
"Axel, it's fine. Thanks fer watchin' the lasses for me."
"No no! No problem. That's my job." Axel smiles at Charlotte. "Besides, not much of a kingdom without a Princess or a hero."

"Aye, ye did well. Thanks."

"What are you going to do, now?" Axel starts pushing the chairs he was using as a barricade upright.

"Aye got some interestin' information from a friend downstairs." Jack smiles, "Aye'm gonna be cross-checkin' it with Fritelli and some of the other friends we have downstairs."

"Heh, give 'em hell, man."

Jack looks over and smiles as if he didn't even need to be told that.

That's when Jack steps over to you.

"Hey princess, ye okay?"
"I'm fine, thank you again for your help, Jack." Charlotte bows.

"And you." Jack is pointing right at you. "Don't go too far today, got it?"

"I'm ready!" You happily jump from the bed, "Look! Axle fixed my axe and my barrier jacket!"
Jack scratches you roughly on the head. Rude.

You are Louise LaCerte! Beautiful princess hero of Gallete!
Your kingdom is.. having some trouble. You'll admit! There are some things that need fixing.

Like, um. The castle part. The castle part of the kingdom needs fixing.

That's okay, though! You're working on it one step at a time!

Last night was kind of weird, and you were asleep for most of it. You remember hearing a loud bang, a scream, and then someone picking you up. That's when you remember that Dog Girl Knight making a man twice her size fall to his knees. Yeah! That was awesome!

Then Charlotte hugged you for like, two hours. Apparently you were kidnapped, but you like to think of it as sleep-walking. Pfft, you would never get 'kidnapped', how dumb is that?

Anyway! That's when Charlotte took you and hid in Axel's room for most of the day. You've been spending the past few hours staring at the ceiling while kicking your feet in the air. The whole time pretending about how cool it would have been if you were wide-awake at the time and saved the day with your big magic axe and powerful, flowing cape that you don't have yet!

That would have been cool!

Jack makes his leave and Axel breathes a sigh of relief. Charlotte explains how she wants to discuss something with Axel, but you aren't paying much attention to get the whole story, just the last part.

"-so could you go find Yuuki and let us have a talk?"
"..Sure okay." You say, hoping she doesn't notice your lapse in attention.

You step out into the hallway and stretch your arms. With a heave, your massive battle-axe fits nicely into the straps on your back.

>Go get something to eat! You're starving!
>Explore! What could possibly go wrong?!
>Down to the training yard! Gonna teach those dummies whose the boss!
>Go find someone.
>Like maybe Yuuki, You should find her anyway, right?
>Or maybe Kayda, You want to play.

..Actually you've been holed up in that room all day. You got some rations from Axel, or what little he keeps in his room, but.

"I'm hungry." You state, plainly and simply.
Right, you could use some what-would-be lunch or dinner right about now. It's probably a good time to get it, and beat the afternoon rush. Especially with all the new faces in the castle that all the maids are trying to serve the number of Gallete generals who have taken residence here for the time being.

It just reminds you that you'll be going back to Gallete, soon.

You step quickly past the growing crowds of the hallways and nimbly weave your way through the generals and the soldiers. Some of them make a wide berth for you and are cautious to avoid the axe.

Good! No one is thinking less of you yet! As long as no one finds out what happened last night, all will be well.

You hop into the cafeteria and sit at one of the desks. The head maid Alicot, who has a nice and fluffy blonde tail, is busy setting out dishes for the looming crowds of supper.

"Uh, Louise?"
"Hi!" You happily wave to her. She flexes her tail, and sighs.

"Oh I am so relieved." She stops her task so she can walk over and sit across from you. "Where have you been? We've been looking for you all day."

"Hiding." You state, it's not a lie you know! "With Charlotte."

"Phew, you had us so scared, you know." She reaches over and gently ruffles your hair, rude. "Here I was worried you were kidnapped again, and you were just hiding. Is Charlotte safe?"
"She is!"

"Good, her knights will be relieved to hear that." She stands up, setting the plates down. "What do you want to eat?"
"Potatoes!" You smile, "Those sweet kind that you have somehow!"

"Coming right up! Let me just go tell Odelle that you're safe and I'll be right back."

She gracefully glides out of the room. Her tail following closely behind her.

More cat-people start filing in on the other side of the room. None of them who you recognize. They all sit at one of the tables, and one of them unfurls a map onto the wooden surface. They look lost in conversation, and seem to ignore most of the room.

You sit in the chair, swinging your legs and humming a little tune. Man, you would have LOVED to beat up on them like you were an actual knight!
That knight last night was so cool. Her name was Pomelo, or something? She was just like that hero from your book about-

"Hey!" You hear a gruff voice behind you. You turn around in your chair to be faced with a man wearing some kind of silly hat.
"Do you mind?" He says, with a foppish squeal in your voice. "We're having an important meeting, and you're over here humming! Leave until we're done."

You look for his tail, for some reason you can't see it.

"Oohh." This seems interesting! All the guys at the table are looking at you too, and some of them seem serious! "What meeting?!"

"Does it matter?! This is an important business deal we have going on!"

"Boss, look." One of the men from the table comes up and nudges him, and points to your axe. "Why are you carrying that axe, little girl?"

"'Cause it's big." You say, plainly. "And it's strong."

"Yeah that's what your mother sai-"
"Boss, a moment, please?"

The two funny-hat wearing guys walk off.
You go back to the thing you were thinking about before.

What was that? Oh yes, being a hero.

You would love to be a hero. Well, technically you are one, but it really feels like you're only one in-name only. Last night was an embarrassment.
"One."
You should have pulled yourself from his hand and climbed up on his back! Then you could kick him while he could only look at you and cry!
"Two."
He would cry so hard if you were awake enough to have fought hi-

"Three."
"Got it."

Suddenly, you feel a weight lift itself from your back!

You turn around and see those two men, with your axe in hand! They toss it, and several other men strain to lift it.

"Hey! That's mine!"
"Little girl, uh, Louise; We're gonna make your axe better. Come with us and we'll show you how it's done." One of them nudges the other.
"Yeah, just follow us for a bit."

"But it's already good."
"We're gonna make it BETTER though."
"How?"

"Listen, just shut up and come with us, okay?" The other guy breaks his facade.

You look at the one with red hair, and then back to the one with blonde hair.
"Wait, are you kidnapping me?" You say, with sudden realization.

"YES!" The red-haired one replies, rubbing his temples. "You're unarmed and outnumbered, Here, just-"

He grabs your hand and tries to pull you up. Suddenly, it all clicks!
"Ooooohhhhhhhh." You say, the realization swirling.

So that's when you grab his hand in return. His eyes widen.

"Alicooooot!" You moan, storming into the kitchen. "Where ARE YOU?"
"Oh! Louise!" She spins with a plate on her hand. "I have it right here! Was just about to come find you."

"I'll take it to go, thanks. I found something really neat!"
"Oh okay. Here."

She takes the plate off the silver platter and hands it to you. You take good care not to bump the ceramic tile with the handle of your axe as you receive it.

"Not very patient today, are we?" Alicot smiles at you.
"Nahh. Just had some interruptions. Rude people is all." You frown.

"Rude people? I'll have the guards throw them out at once." Alicot almost storms past you.
You stop her, and smile. "No need! They aren't a problem anymore!"

"Oh, okay." Alicot blinks. "Well, I'll go have a talking to them later."
"Is Odelle safe?" You wonder, out loud.
"She's fine. She was scrambling around the castle earlier in a mad search."

"Ohh okay. Tell her I want to train with her later!"
"I'll do that." Alicot kneels down and rubs your head again. "You're so sweet, Charlotte is really lucky to have you!"

You smile back at her. Though, there's a hint of worry to that smile.

"Um." You feel sheepish, and not because of the sheep princess you see around occasionally. "By the way, I broke your cafeteria."
"Uh." Alicot hears words, but can't seem to process them. "You did what now?"

Suddenly you remember something, people don't want to hear the specifics! They want to hear the exciting parts!

"Never mind, Look at this cool treasure map I found!"
"This-"

Alicot peeks over your shoulder as you unfurl the soft parchment that was previously on the cafeteria table.

"This is.. a really good map of Biscotti's dungeons." She stands up, and then looks to you. "It even has all those hidden rooms and passages no one except Tuile and I are supposed to know about. Who made this?"
"Dunno!" You state; which is just a teensy lie, but not a big one! "I think Jack made it!"

>Cont.
>>
She blinks, "You think Jack made that map?"

"Yep! I think this is where to find his buried treasure!"
She seems, even more confused?

"Is 'buried treasure' a type of liquor?"
"No, no! It's a thing! That pirates do! They take treasure and then they bury it. It's like a religion or something. 'Pirate code'."

"Um." Alicot seems even more confused. That's okay though, Pirate code can be confusing. "What kind of treasure would Jack bury?"

"Who knows?! But he must have lots of it! Think of all the princesses he's kidnapped since coming here!"
"Well, I wouldn't say he's kidnapped them-"

"And think of all the favors he's done! He must have saved Gallete like, twice. I'm sure Gallete must have given him a fiefdom and like a quarter of the treasury just for that!"
"Actually, I'm not sure he-"

"I'm sure his buried treasure stash is large enough to rival a small country by now!"

"And you're going to find it?" Alicot has an almost worried look. "What are all these lines on here for?"

She's right, the page has several unidentified lines. One is a green line that extends from the cafeteria, past a guardpost (With a red X on the guardpost, some kind of stash?) and then down into the dungeon through the front. There's a red line which goes along the castle wall from the outside and then comes in through there, and then up a hidden passage in the moat. Then there's also a yellow line which starts in a shed outside the castle, goes through a hidden tunnel, and comes up into the dungeon from below.

All three of these lines seem to converge in one very specific cell in the dungeon. First floor, all the way at the back.

"I don't know." You say, plainly.

>I'm following the green line!

"Well! I know where this is!" You smile. "I'll just go there right now and-"

"Hold on, Miss." Alicot sighs. "Jack is down there right now doing important hero work. Give him a few minutes before you rush down there."
"But-"
"No."

..
Important hero work?

Important hero work.
In the place.
Where the map says there's treasure!

Ah ha! You knew it! You knew all along!

"Is Jack teaching you poor habits again?" Alicot frowns as you find yourself fingers-deep in the soft down of her tail.
Eek!

.. Well, one more stroke for good luck won't hurt anyone.

"Okay! I'll leave Jack again" You say, still clinging onto her fuzz.
"Good girl." She smiles, "Now return to the cafeteria and I'll be back there in just a minute."

"Uh." You feet a light sweat overtake you. "Sure! I'll be there in just a few minutes!"
That's also a teensy lie, too.

You head over to the library and quietly find a table to eat your dinner at. You quickly finish up the mashed goodness and hand it over to a maid, who quietly ushers it back to the kitchen.
The library is a GREAT place to come if you want to hide, or just not be bothered! Maids here serve the scholars 24/7, and none of them even bat an eye at your presence!

Well, usually they don't. Now some of them turn a glance to the axe on your back.

You carefully follow the map over to where Aligot and Gougere normally sit. There doesn't seem to be anyone here right now.

The map shows that there's a hidden room right behind this alcove where he sits. This map is amazing!

A wall clicks in front of you, and you slowly push the stone to see the entire wall slide!
Inside there is a small room. With a lamp, a table, and a bed! And on that bed is-

"Uurgh." Kayda sits up in bed, rubbing her eyes. She looks like she just got up from a VERY long nap. "L-Louise? are you in my house?"

"What are you doing back here." You ask, innocently.
"Uhhhhh."

She looks around the room, before pulling off the covers and sitting upright in bed.
"I don't know."

"Is this your house?"
"CLEARLY it isn't." She crosses her arms. "How did I get here?"

"How did you get there?" You repeat back to her.

She stares at you like that is the dumbest question ever. Yet, she doesn't seem to have an answer for it.

"I don't know."

You stare at one another for what feels like a few minutes. You rush over to her bedside and sit next to her!
"Look! I found a treasure map!"

"A, what?"
"Treasure map! It shows you were someone buried treasure!"

She looks over the parchment, and then back to you.
"Why would someone bury treasure?"
"Pirate thing! Anyway, This map is really good! It has all the hidden rooms in Biscotti! And it shows right where the treasure is!"

Kayda's face, it seems a little.. frozen.
"Louise, where did you get this map?"

"Huh? got it off some deadbeat, why?"

You notice Kayda doing something strange, her finger is running over some kind of seal in the bottom left corner.
You're weird sometimes, Kayda.

"Never mind." She coughs.
"Come with me! I'm going to go find treasure!"
"Yes, I think I should." Kayda reaches below her bed, pulling out a strange new rifle I didn't know she had. "Just in case."

"Yay! It's settled!" You grab her hand. "Onward!"

You amble your way out of the Library and down toward the dungeon. You pass many maids and guards all scrambling past you with spare chairs and tables.
C-can't imagine why.

You rush down the stairwell with Kayda in tow and come to the door mentioned on the map. There are to guards standing outside.
"Let us in, we're on important adventuring business!" You state, plainly and clearly.
"No can do, little lady." One of the guards stays at attention. "There's an important interrogation occurring inside."

Hmph.
You walk a few steps away and take out your map again.
Oohh, this green line doesn't even come this way. In fact, it takes a shortcut through a couple of hidden rooms.

Neat!

You aptly weave around through hallways and unused passages, eventually arriving to another wall which slowly slides out of the way.
Somehow, Kayda almost seems nervous coming this way. You wonder why.

"H-Hey, I have a bad feeling about this." She says, clutching her rifle. "What if someone sees us?"
"Then we'll just go another way!"
"No, Louise! Neither of us are from Biscotti. What if they think we're traitors?!"

"We're what now?"
"Traitors! What if they think we're liars, thieves, and are trying to break out the prisoners?"
"Why would we do that?"
"We wouldn't! That's the problem! We're making ourselves look very guilty by being here! We should just go back."

"No way, Adventure!" You point toward the next hidden wall. It slides open and you're treated to an interesting sight.

There's an overhang which peers over several layers of the dungeon.
At the bottom of that wall, two floors down, there's a small group of men. They're slowly chiseling and cracking at the wall with an assortment of hammers.

Huh, looking at your map, they're on the exact point where there's a circle on the red path. Do they have a treasure map, too?

"What are they doing?" You wonder out loud.
"Shh." Kayda hushes you.

You and her watch for a scant few minutes as they bash against the stone exterior. Each hit sends a powerful thud that resonates throughout the stone temple.

Suddenly, one of them pulls a brick out of the masonry. Kayda shakes your shoulder and wordlessly points toward a strange sight.

The men, they're dragging animal balls out of the hole in the wall!

Huh, those look like catballs, those are bearballs.
Wow, now they're dragging people out. They grab people by the heels and wrists and pull them out of the hole.

The men they pull out cough, before standing up and saluting. They, too, help bash at the wall and pull more people out.

"What are they-"
"Oh my god." Kayda puts her hand over her mouth. "The map isn't for a treasure hunt, it's for a jailbreak!"

"W-"

A jailbreak?!
Wait.
"Are those people prisoners?"
"Yes! Prisoners in Biscotti's dungeon! They're taking them out!"

Your mind blanks. For some reason, you can't think of an appropriate course of action.

"Kayda, what do we do?!" You nudge your friend.

She takes out her rifle and opens her mouth- but nothing comes out!
Her rifle clatters to the floor, fortunately it's covered up by the relentless banging.

Her hands grasp furiously at her head. Her eyes seem to trail off into a thousand yard stare.
"Kayda? Kayda!"

Your arms wrap around your friend, and she weakly collapses into your grasp. Kayda feebly pushes you away, while panting.
"What was that?!" You shake your friend. "Say something!"

"I think." She coughs. "I think we should go get help, and we should not try to fight them."

You blink twice at her.
"Seriously?"

Not gonna be any jailbreak here, these people will stay nice and locked up for a good long time.

"I think we should go get help, we should not try to fight them. "

You look at your friend, and notice her trembling. Your eyes blink twice at her strange outburst.

"Seriously?"

"Yes, I'm serious." She tries to compose herself, but she's still shivering. "Please do not fight them."

Now you're really starting to worry. There's two against these 'who-cares' pawns, and you got the jump on them! Who wouldn't take this?
"Why not?" You ask again, keeping a firm hand on your friend's shoulder.

"Map, please."

She takes the map and unfurls it to reveal only the section with the yellow line. She traces her finger along it, and then stops at some kind of barrier indicated on the map.
"That." She struggles to talk. "That's another group of soldiers, in a different jailbreak. B-but, in a few moments, they'll be here too. We're outnumbered. We should leave."

You cross your arms and pout at her, "You say 'outnumbered', I hear 'target-rich environment'."
"What?"

"Listen, don't think of them as soldiers! Think of them as.. target dummies. Like the ones in the training field! It'll be easy!"
"No, no! That's not why I'm worried. It's.."

She peers over the railing at the small group. They've made a sizable enough hole for the prisoners to crawl out on their own, now.

"..It's who I think is also down here. Remember that big guy? Gilles? If they're here, then he's probably here somewhere, too!"

"You worry too much." You smile at your friend, "There's still two of us! And just think! We could be like, big superheroes if we foil their plan! Think of how angry Jack would be if they got away. We can stop that!"

"But…" She still seems worried. "Gilles."

>Two of us, versus one of him. Calm down, Kayda.

"Kayda." You pick her rifle up from the stone floor. "This is important."

"Y-you're not gonna?"
"Of course I am!" You can feel your face beaming. "I'd be silly not to!"

"But WHY?!" Kayda is holding your hands now, like she doesn't want you to leave. "Why put yourself in danger just to stop some stupid prisonbreak?!"

"Because!" You hold her hands right back, "Sometimes, even if it seems dumb, you should still do the right thing!"

She blinks, "I don't get that at all. We don't have to intervene here."
"No but we SHOULD! That's why we're the heroes here!"

You hand her the rifle, and then take your axe off of your back.
"That's a weird way of looking at it." Kayda still seems unsure. "I don't think we-"

"Shh, stop talking. If we act now instead of thinking, we can do this! We just have to do it together!"

"W- what should I do?"
"Use your gun, silly! Cover me while I go have a chat with them."

"You're going down there?!"
"Yep!"

"But-"

You don't let her finish. You instead hop onto the railing and then dive off the side.

In mid-air, you can feel your yellow emblem glowing in your hand. You concentrate on the blade of the axe.

KRACK-
POW!

The silver blade slams into the masonry and an arc of lightning dances and leaps across the gathered operatives.
Most of them, completely out of reflex, drop their hammers and try to mob you using their bare hands.
Dumb mistake!

One of them tries grabbing your axe, just to be whacked away with relative ease. Another manages to grab your arm, but is quickly introduced to a really fun thing you learned about lightning: It can travel through things!

Seven of the rescued soldiers quickly attempt to rush you. Each one bursts into a puffball as the sound of gunfire rings out in the distance.

With a heave, the last of the prisoners are balled up and thrown away.
This leaves only you, and the peering eyes of six or seven prisoners still tucked away inside the cell. They cautiously watch through the stone opening with awe.

Of course, you meet this gaze with another bolt of lightning thrown from your hand. They puff up themselves into their harmless state. Can't risk them escaping through the hole, after all!

Around the corner, you hear footsteps. They appear to be coming near.

You can hear the footsteps gaining ground as they near the corner.
Your massive axe finds your right hand, and a charged ball of lightning rests in your other.

Whoever is coming around that corner is gonna be really, really sorry!

Before the first foot is even done setting onto the floor, your lightning has already arced across the room at them.

Shrieks fill the air as you count how many must have been struck from the resistance of that bolt.
Two, three, at least five people! Lucky!

What's not so lucky are the few who seemingly shrugged off those lightning strikes. They amble around the corner, and are more than aware of your presence as they leap into action.

One of them starts his attack by immediately throwing a set of bolts at you! They embed themselves in your clothing, and slowly start to rip and tear at the seams.
Another opens his attack with a rapier, hidden at his side. You have some skill with rapiers, so blocking and deflecting him is a small challenge.

Yet, the act of deflecting him also allowed the first one to follow-up his throw attack with a thrown vial of some kind of liquid. It burns and eats into your skin, and your clothes as well.
Tired of being on the back foot, you advance into their guard and wipe them out with one fell swoop!

You examine your battle damage. Your clothing is still intact, but is starting to tear and upend at the folds. Loose magic-thread and fabric lightly hangs off the hem.
You got careless, and that's frustrating!

Yuck, the stuff on your clothes smells like kerosene. That's disgusting.

Speaking of which, why is Kayda so silent? You didn't hear any gunshots.
Furthermore, why haven't the footsteps stopped?

Another, lumbering presence saunters around the corner.

"OY, THAT'S WHY I'M THE LEADER, JOSEPH." He laughs while kicking the animal ball you just defeated. "CAUSE I ALWAYS SEND SCOUTS."

This guy.. is he Gilles?

The monstrous behemoth of a man stands over the puffballs.

And is nearly towering over you.

Yikes, he is a LOT taller than you remember him. You only remember seeing him last time at the chapel where Kayda was to be married, or something, you weren't paying much attention to that back then.

You are paying extra attention to what is happening right NOW, though. This guy is a monster! This guy is like twice Jack's size!

"W-w-w-w-"

You try to say something, but come up empty handed.

He coughs, and without even thinking, makes a grab for you!

Fortunately you're clear of his armspan within a single hop!
"WOW KID, IT'S SHOCKING HOW SLIPPERY YOU ARE!"

That's when you realize, back in the chapel, there is one thing he REALLY HATED back then.
"No, that's not what's shocking." You smile.

An arc of electricity courses through your axe.
"VoilĂ !" You heave the massive body of metal straight at the massive body of flesh.

He has that wild look on his face again, like he's just heard the funniest joke in the world and he wants to tell you all about it!

He quickly puts his arm up, and the blade-section of your axe slams into his forearm.
But that's not what you were wanting to hit him with!

Like a lightning rod, all that pent-up energy flows from the axe and into his veins!
"GYYAAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES! YES!"

Wait.. what?

You step back, and let the electricity settle in his body.
He glares at you, same wild smile on his face.

"I KNEW YOU WOULD DO THAT, LITTLE GIRL. EVER SINCE LAST TIME I'VE BEEN SHOCKING MYSELF REGULARLY IN THE JUNK TO GET USED TO THE PAIN. I'M IMMUNE NOW! COMPLETELY IMMUNE TO LIGHTNING!"

..Wait, what's 'the junk'?

"..Au contraire."
"WHAT?"

"I think." You size up your opponent, "I think the reason you think you're immune, is because you haven't got enough of it."

"THAT'S DUMB."

You concentrate on the emblem in your pocket. A yellow emblem, encapsulating all the brilliance of the sun contained in a tiny bolt thrown from a cloud.
Your hands start to wildly spark, and your head starts to feel light.

Every piece of fabric on your body is wildly flailing about. The energy gathering is almost too much for your own outfit.

nstead of finding a place to hide from the girl who has lightning arcing and snapping off of her body; he instead maintains a braced stance, as if he intends to take the brunt of the hit.

This is it! The most electricity you think your body can store!
"Adieu!!"

POW!

The sound of all that energy is so intense that your right ear almost feels numb. There's a ringing which is accompanied by Gilles' coughing.

The burning smell of hair and fur is almost overwhelming.

Yet, he doesn't fall. He steps several paces back, and then quickly looks toward you once more.

Suddenly, the air around him seems much less dark. His entire body is glowing with a blue aura!
That wasn't him taking the attack! This was him waiting for a chance to riposte!

"I'LL SHOW YOU POWER, LITTLE REDSKIN? WHAT THE-?"

You step back, getting ready to take whatever magic spell he has cooked up.
Wait, did he just call you 'redskin'?

That's when something rushes from your peripheral vision.
It shouts something in a language you don't understand. With a flash, the entirety of your field of vision is covered in shades of red, orange, and yellow.

"FIRE!" The brute yells, "FIIIIIRREEEEEE! FIRE! FLAMES! HOT! BURNING!"

His immolated form burns brighter than any of the torches. It quickly weaves around some pillars, bumps against some walls, before rounding a corner and disappearing from sight.

The yelling persists for a short time after that, but fades into the background.

"-but if I left I thought I was gonna lose you and- hic, and that you were gonna get hurt and then-"

"That's what you were worried about? About me getting hurt?"

Slowly, she nods.
You step forward and wrap your arms around her.
"Aww, that's so sweet!" You squeeze around your friend. "But of course, I wasn't in any kind of danger. So there's no need to cry."

"You REALLY HAD ME SCARED THOUGH! It took everything I had to even come down here when I knew he was down here and there you are trying to challenge him to a one-on-one fight!"

It's hard to rub someone's head when they stand taller than you, yet you manage anyway.

"I was just so... Just so.."
"Kayda, you were there to help me, that's all that matters." You pull your friend closely. "Thank you."

She doesn't say anything, despite the chaos all around. She simply cries into the top of your head.

The both of you slowly walk somewhere that you may not get spotted if there happen to be any more stragglers.

"Kayda." You sit across from her, admiring a lock of her long, black hair. "Why are you scared of them?"
"Huh?"

"Did something, like, happen? You're a hero. They have every reason to be terrified of you, but you act like they could beat you at any minute. We know that isn't true."

"I-" She starts, but seems to lack the words to form what she's thinking. "I just, am scared of them. That's all."
"Why?"

"Because.." She coughs, "They were really mean to me, for a long time. But at the end of the day, I still serve them. They're still the people I should be taking orders from, and did take orders from. The last few weeks have been the only time that I haven't taken orders from them, and it feels wrong. You tug lightly on her hair. She squeaks.
"That's silly." You take hold of one of her hands. "You're silly."

"I'm not silly!" She frowns, "This has been eating me up inside!"

"If you're betraying your country, then what do you call them chaining your princess up her room?"
"I don't know, and it wasn't my job to know that." She seems uncomfortable bringing that topic up.

"Kayda, you serve your princess, not them. Your job all along wasn't to bend to the wills of your kingdom. It was to the safety of the one who summoned you."

"But the big king guy said he owned my summoning agreement!"

Oh, that's what she thinks is going on?

"What's funny?!"
"That doesn't mean anything. Look, Jack was summoned by Keiko. But the agreement was signed by Atsuko. That doesn't mean Atsuko owns Jack and it doesn't mean Keiko owns Jack. No one owns you, Kayda."

She doesn't seem very convinced. Maybe this is just a conversation she needs to be having with everyone and not just someone two years younger than her.

"Anyway, let's get going! We can still explore plenty of places before-"

"There you are." An older, but more stern voice says in an almost scolding manner.
"Yuuki?!"
"Oh, Hi Yuuki!" You turn around and flash that beaming smile.

She sighs, and then calls down the hallway.
"It's okay! I found them!"

There's some chatter down the hallway, and a mean look from Yuuki.

"Okay young ladies, what were you DOING down here without telling anyone? You have half of the castle looking for you two!" Yuuki puts her hands on her hips.

"W-well!" Kayda tries to search for an excuse.
"We found a treasure map!" You say, with honesty! "And we followed it and it was actually a prison break and then we burned and shocked a bunch of people and here we are!"

"Yeah, we know." Yuuki sighs. "When you shocked those people in jail, the bolt went out and electrocuted the whole dungeon. That's how we figured out you were down here."

Oh, I accidentally-
Whoops.

Thanks for the thread everyone! This was a very active thread. I think this is the first time we've been in Louise's shoes. I hope I more-or-less nailed your perception of her character.

Please let me know what you think of this thread. I thought it was a lot of fun! Thanks for the thread everyone, and until next time.

Oh man I can see it. We invade bear country and Keiko is sitting on Jack's shoulder and slowly raises her hand which just silently means 'attack'
