That went better than expected.

You return to base (that is, the mansion just out of town where you're spending your honeymoon-but-also-diplomatic-mission), with Regis in tow, feeling like things are finally starting to look up from a strategic perspective.

After the very close call of the Battle of Tianna against the Silver Prince, you needed the ego boost.

"Maka!" As usual, Tia throws herself at you like a charging bull (but much harder) as soon as you open the door.

"Welcome back." Is Amata's much more restrained, though not any less warm, welcome, as she puts down the book she was reading, sitting at a sofa in the living room. "How did it go?"

"The council agreed to enter negotiations." You reply, patting Tia's head as she squeezes your waist in a crushing hug. "Huann Rang wants Cormorant back, and he'll support us if we return it to his clan. And Bua Shing is cautious, but on our side for now."

"The Realm?"

"The Satrap is useless. The two Dragon-blooded Immaculates are... really mad at me, but I have a feeling that they're sort of outcasts, or exiles. They were very touchy on the subject." You ponder a bit. "Also, they're probably lovers. Does the Order frown on this kind of relationship with fellow monks?"

"Yes." She mumbles, thoughtfully. "Not enough to cause serious censure, but probably enough to get you reassigned to the Neck if you're not very discreet about it."

"Sanaya didn't seem the discreet sort." You comment, and Amata laughs in response.

"What do we do with the Dragon-Blooded"? Tia asks, looking up to you, probably only having half-followed the discussion at hand.

"What indeed." Amata replies, fidgeting with the book in her hands, as you manage to wrestle your way out of Tia's clutches and sit down on the sofa. Of course, she immediately follows you and nestles in your lap. "What do you think?" She asks you.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

The latter will probably be angrily rejected by that fire aspect which naturally segues into the former.

What if we try and convince them that they should make sure things are going well back there, that people aren't mindlessly twisted or whatever Immaculates think people under the Anathema are like.
Appeal to their sense of decency (assuming they have any) or something like that.
>>
Maybe if we couch the invitation as an opportunity to spy on us and get intel for the Realm they'll be more likely to accept? I know the other guy, Swallow I think his fakename was, probably already did that. But I guarantee these two don't rank high enough on the totem pole to be privy to that.

>>45775152
If you think about it the circumstances around Maka's exaltation would make a tour of Tianna super suspect for them.

We exalted as a solar and a month later we're marrying into the royal line of Tianna and attempting expansion throughout the west.

They'll probably default to thinking the people have been brainwashed by evil anathema magic instead of realizing that we aren't the bedtime monster they think we are.

Well I suppose we technically ARE a bedtime monster, but the good kind.

"We could invite them to Tianna." You suggest.

Amata giggles.

"No, I'm serious."

She stops giggling.

Tia nods thoughtfully. "Mhhmh. I see. Maka's harem expands yet again." She looks at you and smiles. "I'm so proud of you."

"I don't-" You bite your tongue. "I just want to show them that, you know, I'm not some kind of monster."

"But Tianna is still rebuilding from a massive battle and disaster." Amata helpfully points out. "I don't think it's in its best shape right now to be seen by outsiders with very nasty preconceptions."

"...Maybe." You admit. "But still, it would also make it easier to keep them under control, and also give me more time to win them over to our side. Or at least get them to not blow our stuff up."

She sighs. "I'm fairly sure they'll refuse anyway, but hey. Honestly, I don't think they're the kind of people to, like... go underground, start a sabotage spree, or stuff like that. But they could still do a lot of damage, so we'll have to be careful."

"We'll have to be careful if they stay here too." You reply.

"Is that plan B?"

You nod. "Driving them off the Neck would be the most logical course of action, but I really want to give a good impression. I really want to show them that we can work things out."

She smiles.

"What?"

"No, no, nothing. I was just thinking how it'sobvious why the Unconquered Sun chose you."

You can't help but blush at that comment.

"So? The plan of action?"

You glance out of the window. It's late afternoon already.

"We could just have a walk around, enjoy the sights. The park, or seaside? Maybe a boat trip. Or some more shopping." Amata suggests, intrigued as well. "I also heard that there's the first showing of a new play at the theater."

>How about inviting them to Tianna? I'd love to see how they react to that.

An idea I had when Running Swallow left was that we ask him, or in this case possibly these Dragon-Blooded, to act as a sort of opposition party or conscientious objector. Someone to voice criticism to some of our plans and keep us honest.
Mostly I was worried about falling into some of the same traps that our previous exalted did.

After all, how can you know what to improve if it's never brought to your attention.

Ofc, given that the perspective is from Immaculate Monks, everything is probably wrong.

"Well, let's go try this new play." You turn to Tia. "Ever been at the theater?"

"I don't... think I have." She seems a bit puzzled by the thought. "Is it interesting?"

"Often." Amata stands up, heading for the trunk where she's keeping her clothes and accessories in the closet. "But it depends on the play. Remember to behave yourself, dress properly, and keep your back straight."

Tia groans. "Sounds boring already."

"You'll never know unless you give it a try." She pokes her.

"So, what is this play about?" You wonder, while Amata gets changed.

"I only overheard some people talking about it while we were out, and saw a poster for it, that's all" She replies. "But it's some kind of love drama with some action mixed in? The title sounded like some pulpy historical drama, like "Warrior princess of the green island" or something."

You change clothes, get prepared, and, at the right time, leave house and head into town with Amata and Tia, with a small escort. Just to dissuade people from starting something, you know.

By now the islanders have gotten used to you. This doesn't mean they don't follow you everywhere you go with a large crowd like some rock star, though. It's a noisy bunch, but not excessively annoying now that you're used to it.

After a short walk around town, you reach the theater, where people were already piling up by the entrance to buy the first tickets. There's quite a moment of tension when you show up: This is a very high society event, and you have the feeling that not everyone here is happy to have you here. Or maybe they're just nervous or scared.

(At least you got Tia to leave her daiklave home.)

You pay tickets for the best places in the house, the luxury box, and move in. (If you sat down in the stalls, you'd probably block the view of someone, you realize.)

The house soon ends up packed, and, while the show is still clearly getting prepared, you idly muse to Amata and Tia:

"So, what do you THINK this show will be about, exactly? We're in here blind."

"I hope it's got explosions." Mumbles Tia, who... is in her usual dress. Fortunately people won't know it's what she wears everyday (probably).

"I think it's some kind of love story? Like, star-crossed lovers, something like that? I don't recognize the actors nor the playwright's name, though." Amata ponders.

"You've been to a lot of plays?"

"I love theater." She nods. "And I'm really curious."

"Wouldn't it be funny if this play were about us?" You suggest.

"...It WOULD be funny, but I don't think it's the case." Amata frowns.

"We should have someone make a play about us." Tia nods. "With lots of sex scenes and explosions and people get decapitated and there's high pressure blood spraying on the audience. It ends with setting fire to the theater."

"Stop."

The lights are being turned down.

>"We should have someone make a play about us." Tia nods. "With lots of sex scenes and explosions and people get decapitated and there's high pressure blood spraying on the audience. It ends with setting fire to the theater."

It gets treated like a cross between the Rocky Horror Picture show and Burning Man, and is only played once a decade on an outdoor stage built especially for the event. The show starts at sundown and lasts until midnight, which is then traditionally followed by an aftershow fuck-till-you-drop orgy.
>>
>>45776001

>>
>>45776086
Sure if you want the only person still showing up after a few months to be M. Bison. Also rebuilding the stage every week would be a huge pain in the ass, not to mention all the fake blood you'd have to make.

No for these sorts of things it's better to space it out and make it something people anticipate and go batshit crazy for.
>>
The scene opens on a boat, which is actually being rocked back and forth by an unseen mechanism (or people cleverly hidden) as wooden waves painted blue and white "move" by.

A woman strides on stage, looking abject. Wears a pastiche of obviously fake armor which wouldn't offer any protection even if it were real: a shoulderpad, some armor on the legs and arms. Other than that she's wearing sheer silken clothing. Her getup does its best to emphasize every curve in her body. She's wearing a small tiara.

You fidget a bit. "That armor is unrealistic."

"Shhh!" Amata shushes you.

"Ah! Woe is me! An exile am I, cast away from my motherland!" She says, to no one in particular, or rather, to the audience. A chorus picks up her lines as sad string music plays.

"My lady Princess!" A seaman follows her, in drab clothing and thick sideburns. "We have almost arrived to the Green Island, the place of your exile."

He is followed by an obviously evil-looking soldier, black, spiky armor and face-concealing helmet. "Your fate is sealed, Warrior Princess. Never you shall again see your beautiful country of golden sands, for it belongs to the Conqueror King now! Bwahahaha!"

"Alas!"

Warrior princess exit, kicked overboard.

You turn to Amata, shivering, craning your neck so slowly you can hear your neck creak. "...Amata?"

She's totally into it.

New scene, with the warrior princess washed ashore. She picks herself up, another few lines on her miserable fate.

Suddenly, ninjas attack! Black clad actors wielding black swords drive a handful of "peasants" on the stage. Screaming, panic as the merciless killers cut the peaceful citizens of Green Island down! A roaring noise in background, of the kind you'd get by beating on a metal plate.

"What! Who send you here, vile monsters? Is the Conqueror King not satisfied with my exile?"

"Whoever might you be, wench?" The ninja replies, lunging at her with the blade, easily dodged.

"Man, they fight like crap." Tia groans.

>>45776112
>"Your fate is sealed, Warrior Princess. Never you shall again see your beautiful country of golden sands, for it belongs to the Conqueror King now! Bwahahaha!"
So uh, what was the name of the author again?
>>
"I am the Warrior Princess, exile from the country of the sands! Surely you know of me?"

"We are the loyal minions of the King of Death, here to conquer Green Island by his evil command. And we know nothing of you save this: you will submit or die!"

The Warrior Princess intercepts his following blow. (The actress clearly knows how to move, but they obviously didn't have time to properly practice the stuntwork, so they're toning it down.). She disarms him, and brings the black sword to bear on the other ninjas.

"I shan't allow it! By my name, exile might I be, but still a warrior I am!"

"You know, Amata..." you mumble.

The scene changes, with the Warrior Princess rallying a crowd of defeated soldiers and peasants to recapture the Queen's Castle, which is apparently where the ruler of Green Island resides. They have a lot of extras, and the scene gets really crowded.

Suddenly, one tall woman, tanned and broad-shouldered, wielding a staff and wearing a black catsuit with some bits of armor and some frills bolted on shows up! declaring herself the "White Flower of the King of Death", she engages Warrior Princess and her army in a fight, and makes quick work of the latter.

That's when a man enters the scene, covered in animal pelts. A huge, muscular, burly monster of a man, reminding you of Bua Shing, wielding a hilariously oversized prop sword! He joins the battle on Warrior Princess' side, and blows White Flower away.

"And who might you be, you uncouth yet friendly barbarian warrior?"

"I have no name, m'lady." He drops to one knee. "None worthy of being given to you, my princess."

"Surely you jest, for I am a princess no more, exiled from my native lands, stripped of everything I own."

"That may be so, but you will be, forever, the princess of my heart."

This is a pretty good play.

A Sidereal did this, I'm sure of it.

Amata. Autocorrect is a bitch.
>>

That makes more sense now that I think about it. I was caught up on that fact that the fight with Feurdelis was where we met Samiel, so I just assumed.

We're also being invaded by Silver Prince and not Tyrant, that's pretty nice I suppose.
>>
>>45776273
He was the nearer deathlord and better known threat to these people
>>
>>45776297
Yeah, but the play had White Flower as a minion of the King of Death, who's obviously suppose to be Silver Prince.
>>
>>45776309
I'm sure that's it, just saying it's nice that Tyrant isn't a villain in the play. Or at least, not yet.
>>
The story goes on with the Warrior Princess and the barbarian making her way to the castle, where they rescue the queen, a blonde babe in one of the fanciest dresses you've ever seen outside of your own and Amata's wardrobes. She has magical powers and a sword made of Ice. And she falls in love with Warrior Princess to, at first sight.

The three of them kick the ninjas out of the island, then depart on a boat to look for Warrior Princess' brother, Warrior Prince, who was kidnapped by the King of Death.

Scene change to a dark, ominous fortress. Wind blowing, creepy, music, etc. The sound effects on this production are impressive.

The Warrior Prince, who looks like a slender, young teenager, is in chain in the evil King's dungeon. You hear a lot of girly screaming from the house when he shows up. Is the actor famous? Some kind of local star?

The evil King of Death, a man in full black spiky armor, is trying to "break him" by making him "submit". A liberal use of chains and whips is involved. More girly screaming from the audience.

Suddenly, our heroes break in the dungeon! After a short fight scene, the evil King is forced to retreat, and the Warrior Prince is freed!

"I missed you so much, sister!" He rejoices. "I could not live without you."

And he kisses her. The Queen and the Barbarian are aghast.

"We shouldn't! This is forbidden love!" The Princess recoils from his inappropriate advances.

"If loving you is wrong, my sister, then I have no desire to be in the right!"

A huge argument ensues, with each other character feeling betrayed by the princess' womanizing (mananizing?) ways, and they split up. After a brief interlude where each major character monologues a bit (everyone is in love with the Warrior Princess and wants her for herself, and she can't make up her mind on how to act), the first act is concluded.

Tia is barely awake by this point, though she did seem to enjoy the last fight scene.

"What do you think?" Amata beams.

Clearly they're mixing the two, having Feurdelis work for the Silver Prince. Which given how close she was with the Tyrant, would probably set her off even more than how much they messed up on her apperance

The curtains rise on the melancholy of the Warrior Princess.

"Alas! why must I be cursed so? An exiled princess, and a warrior with no peer to be find in the land, and gifted by the gods by such marvelous beauty that none can restrain himself from falling in love with me! Truly I am the most unfortunate soul in Creation! Woe is me."

"Get ON with it." Tia complains.

Suddenly, shafts of light from above! That's actually a pretty cool visual effect, they toned the light down and filled the air with dust or flour so that the beams of light will be more visible.

A booming, echoing voice: "Trust in your fate, Warrior Princess! A design exists for you. Do not let yourself be led astray from it."

She is startled. "Who is this?!"

"The gods have chosen you to save Green Island. Trust in this quest." the booming voice replies, and then fades in the distance.

"This quest? But I do not wish for this quest. I do not wish for any quest to be thrust upon me." The Warrior Princess snatches her tiara from off her head and casts it to the ground, where it clanks and rolls offstage. "If only the wicked fates had never forced any quest upon me!"

The voice from heaven booms to life once more. "That is not your choice to make, but none forces you to follow the quest. You can merely ignore it, if you dislike it so."

She crumbles to the ground, crying. "But if I do, then what of the people I love? What of those my heart wishes to protect, and make into my wives and husbands?"

"That is what quests are for. Still, in the end, the choice is yours, and yours alone."

The booming voice and light vanishes, with the Princess crying on the floor.

Enter, cautiously, the Barbarian, who has seen all. "My princess!"

"Alas! Why must by heart be torn so? I love you!"

"...My princess?!"

"Love you I do, but is it a sin to have a heart large enough for the entire world? Would you hate me for it?" She cries in his big, beefy arms.

"I shan't!" He holds her tight.

Amata cries.

https://youtu.be/dEtm_Q2LK9g

Also they've really taken some liberties with Maka's chracter in this part.

>"Love you I do, but is it a sin to have a heart large enough for the entire world? Would you hate me for it?"
Except for that, that was 100% accurate.
>>
"I shall accept you the way you are." The huge barbarian sweeps the Princess off her feet, and carries her offscreen.

"What, they're not showing the sex scene?" Tia groans.

"That's... a different kind of theater." Amata replies, some of her composure returning.

The show concludes with each of the Princess' "lovers" being won back by her charm, sincerity, and newfound confidence in herself. Together, they face the King of Death in a final battle, as the evildoer in spiky armor and his black ninjas invades and sacks Green Island. the effect of fires burning in the distance is pretty well-done, cutting holes in the wooden painted backdrop and lighting torches behind. Even a smell of smoke fills the theater.

"Our last battle was won by you on count of surprise and treachery." The King of Death proclaims, wielding a sword whose long blade emerges from a skull's mouth, which is pretty cool and already has Tia's attention. "But you shan't be so lucky anymore! This island is mine, and so are your lives. For what force can hope to withstand against the all-consuming might of Death itself?"

"Love." Warrior Princess, wounded, battered and broken (with some costume damage, which has riled up the crowd quite a bit when it was revealed), stands up to him.

"Love shall vanquish you, for its power is savage and unyielding." The Barbarian strikes at the King, staggering him.

"Love will defeat you, for its gentle touch is stronger than steel." The Queen leaps at the King and backflips off his chest in an impressive display of athleticism. You don't see any wires.

The Prince walks up to the King. "Love will conquer you, because now, I know that love is in your heart as well."

"...prince?!" Princess is shocked. The music stops.

More girly squeeing.

"Your touch was cruel, but also had love in it." She slams the armored brute to the ground, back up, and pins him to the ground with one foot. (crowd goes wild) "Although my heart does not belong to you anymore."

"..:You are right, Prince. My cruelty is envy, because I could see your love, though forbidden, and I have grown envious of it."

So the play ends, as the heroes defeat the villain, and he renounces his evil ways.

Curtains fall, applause.

"So?" Amata, still red-eyed, turns to you.

"This was great. I loved it." You admit. "Though there's something that's been bugging me."

Tia is fast asleep by now.

"Oh, let's pay a visit to backstage, I'm sure he wouldn't mind."

"Fine." She rolls her eyes. "Just let's not bother him too much."

She and Tia follow you backstage. There are employees there whose job is to keep people from doing exactly that, but you just walk past them and they don't do anything to try and stop you, so it can't be THAT bad, can it?

You sneak backstage and stumble onto the whole lot of main actors and actresses huddled together, having an after-show toast and drink. With them is a young man, red-haired, wearing a simple dark red jacket and black trousers. He wears a long scarf, and definitely looks like he needs to sleep more.

Everyone is quite surprised by your sudden appearance. "Wait, who are you?" The man frowns. "You can't be here, it's-"

He suddenly stops, giving you a better look.

"...oh gods. Oh gods no. Please forgive me, I didn't know- I didn't know you were here! I mean- not that it would be alright anyway- I mean, I didn't mean to offend anyone!" He starts panicking.

He seems to calm down a bit.

"Anyway, nice to meet you. I'm Maka."

"Y-yes, I... I know. I'm Rimak Shar, playwright, at your service."

"My wife here doesn't believe that we were the inspiration for your story." You invite Amata closer. "Can you clear this up?"

He freezes up again. "Well... er, maybe "inspiration" is a big word. You see, us creative types constantly draw in all events, all things that surround us... for, well, yes inspiration, which would mean that the events of Tianna ARE an inspiration, but, well, filtered through my particular worldview and all the elements of my interpretation, and adjusted for a new and original story after being mixed with many others..."

"See, I told you that you were reading too much into it." She smiles. "Mr. Shar, I'll apologize for the disturbance."

"Would you mind if we invited you to Tianna? I'm thinking I'd like to have you compose another play for us."

Amata claps. "Oh, yes, wonderful idea."

The man seems a bit surprised. "Eh. Uhhh. I. I think I can? I'll be under contract here for a while, but once it's over, why not?"

All of a sudden, a flicker of light appears in front of your eyes, and takes the shape of a tiny, winged, translucent sprite, all white and blue and silver.

The playwright and troupe are shocked and recoil.

"Uuh- UH! Sorry, I have to take this." You apologize, snatching the small spirit from mid-air in your hand and excusing yourself, quickly followed by Amata, who has seen the Infallible Messenger, and Tia, who isn't really following what's going on.

You end up locking yourself in a broom closet (quite narrow, but just barely large enough for the three of you) before releasing the little sprite, who gives you a sullen stare.

"...Sorry, sorry. It's okay now." You lean closer. "Well? Any news from Gem?"

Tia's ears perk up.

The little sprite straightens his wings and then relays his message, in Karas' voice.

"Hello, Maka. We've secured a hiding place and blended in the city. Gem seems fine, although the people here seem all pretty on edge. There's been rumors of trade caravans disappearing in the deep of the desert, but the city is alright. Security's a bit tight, with mortal guards everywhere, but not much of a problem. Rankar doesn't seem to have any supernatural help beyond two mercenary dragon-blooded, by the way."

A brief pause.

"...I... There's no good way to say this, but you still should know. Sorry, Maka. Your mother, Elenia... we can't find her. Word in the streets is that she was killed in Rankar's coup d'etat, but no one knows for sure. Some say she escaped, but... We can't find anything conclusive."

A deep sigh.

Aexel's voice continues:

"Your father, Askar, is fine. He's in the Tyrant's jails, but he's essentially under house arrest. He's comfortable and treated well, just under lock and key. Rankar is probably treating him well because your family still has quite a lot of supporters and sympathizers in the city, and he doesn't want to alienate them."

"As for your little sister... Eskarin is here, too. She's also under house arrest. Rankar seems to plan to have her marry his son to give his rule more legitimacy. We don't have a precise date, but it's probably sometime next season."

"There don't seem to be any Exalted or powerful supernatural elements in Gem right now other than a few Dragon-Blooded and God-Blooded. A lot of mortal soldiers, though. All local, no outside or Realm presence as far as we can tell. You know, we could take Rankar down pretty easily, with how things are now."

"...That's pretty much it. What should we do from now on? Please respond."

You glance left and right, at Amata and Tia, trying to look strong.

Amata squeezes your hand. "I'm sorry."

Tia grits her teeth, staring up, straight in your eyes. She doesn't say anything, but you know that if she sees you shed a single tear right now, she will probably drown Gem in an orgy of blood.

>Return to Tianna at your earliest convenience.
>Go underground, stay hidden in Gem, and continue gathering information.
>Break my family members free and bring them back with you to Tianna.

As much as I love Tia, I'm sure her opinion will be along the lines of Murder everyone, thank you Tia we will.

I'm tempted to tell them to get word to our family about us and to start getting some of the cities factions on our side, it's kinda harsh, but if they aren't in danger of being executed anytime soon then we can hold on from alerting Rankar about us and keep some surprise on our side
>>

Subtle, EF.
>>
>>45777978
>Ask for Amata's opinion first.
I really have no idea what the effect of toppling this guy right now would cause. Would a bunch of our people be stuck there for months helping to guard the family and reestablish their rule?

Also will it get in the way of our other plans to go against skullstone?

I'm also worried that if we just spring the family and bring them back to the west Rankar will use the disruption to kill any of their remaining supporters.
>>
>>45777978
>Capture Rankar and break my family free.

>I'm also worried that if we just spring the family and bring them back to the west Rankar will use the disruption to kill any of their remaining supporters.
Same, I'm worried that if Rankar hears about us he'll turn to the Realm to keep the throne or worse, he'll turn to a Deathlord.
>>
>>45777978

Rankar is a dead man as soon as we go there.

>>Ask for Amata's opinion first.
I really don't want to put off retaking the city especially after Rankar finds out we took back our family from under his nose, I worry about what he'll do.
>>
>>45778099
If we do have them topple Rankar right then and there we could put Dad on the throne and leave clean up to him, Aexel mentioned he still has lots of supporters in the city, I would think a lot of people would be happy to have him back.
>>
>>45777978
>Go underground, stay hidden in Gem, and continue gathering information.
>Capture Rankar and break my family free.

First priority is your safety, make sure he has no further forces that could muck up the works and there aren't any in the area. After that free my family and capture the tyrant, his fate will be decided later.
>>
You turn to Amata, sighing weakly, and question her with a glance.

She's already pondering the problem. "I'm surprised you didn't tell them to blow up Rankar and save your family right away."

"It's what I actually want to do." You admit. "But It's my family. I can't keep a cool head. You can. What's your opinion?"

"Mh. Even if your family still has some support, that doesn't means that Rankar has none. He wouldn't be the Tyrant without it. And he has apparently soldiers everywhere. If we take one wrong step, the city could turn in a bloodbath."

"Wouldn't his position and influence weaken if we break them out?"

"It would, and, if he gets politically weaker, that'll make him actually MORE prone to using violence for keeping the city in line, don't you think?"

"...you think?"

"Not to mention that if your family gets broken out, He'll know that we are on to him - or, that SOMEONE is, anyway." She nods. "I know it sounds callous to say, but your dad and sister don't look like they are in any immediate danger, so we can afford to be slow and cautious with this. We don't have an urgent time limit."

"...How would you get the entire city out of Rankar's hands without damage, though?"

She looks at you and smiles.

"...Me?"

"Is there anyone better suited? You are both the crown princess, with a perfectly legitimate claim to Gem, and a Solar Exalted who can probably turn Gem's entire armed force and population against him."

You fall silent. "I don't know if it'll be so easy."

She shrugs. "The alternative is to get the team there now to act, but it's a city they're not familiar with. They don't have friends there, and no one will recognize them. If they act in the open, people will probably side with Rankar against a "foreign attack" and that will solidify his position even more. And if they take out Rankar, it might cause a power vacuum."

You turn to the little sprite again, who is waiting for your response eagerly.

Aexel said that the wedding isn't going to be before next season, though.

Have Aexel come pick us up as soon as he prepares for the trip, leave some people behind to get everything set up like anon said, maybe even give our Papa and little sister a heads up.
>>
>>45778561
>what are lieutenants and lackeys
>what is a power vacuum
>what is a civil war of succession

If we break our family free and leave him in power, he's going to feel threatened and do something dumb.

If we take him out now without us being there in Gem, people are more likely to side with him than with "this bunch of Exalted dudes with suspicious origins and motivations that we've never seen before".

Therefore,
>Hide, gather information, Prepare and organize, and wait for me and Karas. We'll do this.
Besides I really want Maka to do this herself, kick ass and take names. It's HER city. I don't want her to act so distant, sending her lackeys to take care of very personal trouble while she's on vacation and can't be assed.
>>
>>45778678
>maybe even give our Papa and little sister a heads up

That is definitely something that can be done discreetly. Ask your team there in Gem to contact your family and inform them that you and Karas are alive and about to save them, and to hang in there.

Unless someone votes to not do this.

I'd be against saying that it's going to happen soon just in case the tyrant gets word of it. If they keep secrets as badly as Maka does it could put the tyrant on alert.

You bite your lips.

You REALLY don't like doing this, but... but Amata might be right.

"...Alright, Aexel. Listen to me. Listen to me carefully. I want you and your team to go underground. Try and contact anyone that could be sympathetic to my family and my father. Keep tabs on Rankar's allies and armed forces. Prepare the battlefield. As soon as we're ready - shortly - I'll come to Gem. With Karas, I'm sure. Probably the full Solar circle. We'll have to overpower Rankar and take him down as bloodlessly as possible. For that to work, you'll have to be ready. Alright?"

You think about it a second.

"...And tell dad and sis that I and Karas are alive and doing fine."

The little sprite nods and vanishes.

"...It must have been-" Amata starts, but you cut her off.

"No." You slam the door open and walk out of the closet. "You're right. Gem is MY city. And I am going to take it back."
