Ginka is hopefully hiding in the ocean outside the potent Barrier you and Matagama-no-Shitoki crafted to contain your enemy. Dropping the bead of condensed youkai blood into ~Nowhere~ you gaze at Oh-sama, who clenches her hands, her blood rushing through her veins and her eyes fixed upon your glowing, mismatched ones....or the glowing sapphire kanji decorating your cheeks. She hasn't transformed yet, though she could; she can't communicate with her sister through the Void, though she may yet have access to other powers of the Void in a Barrier.

That's okay though. You're not exactly untrained in its use yourself. She's dangerous, but of more interest is the distinctive golden glow of her claws – shimmering warnings of their destructive potential seen through your ruby right eye.

This is a big choice as to who we're going to deal with more in the quest, and whether Clan Ryo will be spared (not that many of the higher-ups don't probably deserve it in some way). We've got huge fish to fry with the Kaga Clan, along with Hime's father being corrupted by a western half-devil.

Heck, that movement of soil into Japan probably means that there are foreign spiritual beings on Japanese soil right now.

With the fact that her Water Eyes are much like your own the mutual understanding you have of one another is still working in your favor, especially with the addition of your Destruction-Seeing-Right-Eye, mostly because you're more adaptable to her techniques than she can be to yours. There's a lot to be said for being an expert in violence, and one of those things is that there are many ways to commit it.

The violence you just did to her ego with your rather scathing rebuke to her casual and all too cliché response 'or else what' when you gave her the standard ultimatum, for example.

If Ah-sama is still alive and well, you may wish to reconsider your stance on serving Oba-san. Her eyes narrow and she studies you carefully. “You're still not fully the child of the kami, Ryukusa-san. You may look like Horobi, and you may have unusual weapons and kami on your side, but you're still more dragonette then demigod.” Flexing her hands, she looks at you, struggling to contain the urge to transform and try and take you. The fact that she is hesitating says a lot about her chances. On the other hand that's not really her mission either. She's positive you could catch her before she reaches the edge of the Barrier, but as long as she's facing you she's at no discernible disadvantage.

Frowning, you tilt your head, studying her. You sweep your long white (annoying!) hair to one side with your left hand. “Look, I get that you're semi-stalling. It really depends on if your sister decided to try and interrupt a ceremony dedicated to the local Kami and forced Kiku-chan to create a Barrier.” She mouths the words 'Kiku-chan' and you smile. “Matagama Kiku, also known as Kumatori Kiku, the princess' sister.” She recognizes the first name immediately. “Right. So, here is the deal. You can have some time to decide. Not much, but enough.”

It doesn't take Water eyes to see that she's going to try and out-maneuver you. And there's a possibility she could manage it, Water eyes or no; she 's experienced and well trained. More time is an advantage to any Water spirit child.

Of course, you've been preparing for something like this for a while.

“And while you think about that, I'm going to show you something.” You lift Buki-san slowly, off to the side. It's something that's been percolating in your subconscious for a long time, and you have been studying the Void for quite a while. The power over Wind and Water you could have gained through the Void is largely meaningless to you as a Water dragonette of course; but there is an element of the Void you didn't have access to before hand. And this DOES rely on your power as a demigod, rather than a dragonette. It was something you managed when you first became aware that your Pearl wasn't like other dragonette Pearls.

It's the culmination of your powers of the Void, meaning you have no other study left except another element before you're fully a demigod.

You slowly lower your blade, as the waters above you darken with the spiritual storm-clouds you summon. When you lower the blade down, past your waist, where a overhand draw would end in an iajustsu draw rather than an iado draw, below the waist as opposed to at the waist; you stop there with Buki-san pointing towards nowhere. Or so it would seem.

The blue-white bolt of lightning that tears through the water illuminates the entire barrier, all the way to the greyed-out bottom of the diving area. She isn't impressed by that, not yet; sure, it's an unusual color, but Void dragonettes and oni-children have always thrown lightning around; she can probably do it herself, if she's as good with the Void as people claim. She doesn't get it until you repeat the motion again, this time off to the other side of her and yourself. A second bolt of lightning strikes down to the bottom of the ocean, a blue-white flash that shows her eyes widening, her hands clenching. Then the third bolt, directly between you, at the same distance as the previous two.

You sweep Buki-san up and over as she gleefully titters in your mind, hot for battle and looking forward to the taste of blood; you flick the blade to the side to scatter imaginary blood off and to ready the weapon once more, still one handed. The now terrified oni-child stares at you with her dark eyes swirling, fear making her lose control.

“Consider carefully, Oh-sama. I haven't a grudge against Clan Ryo. I'm proud to have been trained among you, to call many of you comrade and friend. My anger has never been with any of you, aside from the fact that you keep showing up and trying to kill me and my loved ones. But that's not really YOUR doing is it?” She looks down towards the ocean floor, seeing kami-knows-what down there. “I may not yet be fully a demigod, but I'm not the dragonette that was trained in Clan Ryo!”

Important ones.” You slide through the water towards her and she watches you warily. Her nails still glow – it must be something inherent to her nature, not a power. Probably poisonous, or they make the wounds bleed.

Only yards apart now, you study her carefully. “You know what I'm like. I'm friendly. I get on people's good side. I treat people well, and they mean something to me. You know all that....so I'm going to include my allies and my friends in your oath. Chances are good you won't ever need to bother my friends....but you and your sister aren't the ones I'm worried about breaking the oath.” She nods slowly, understanding full well that the orders they are given could be construed in many ways. The nogitsune born of Clan Kurosune are my allies, as are the human Yakuza who serve jichou Hyun Chisato.” At least for now – she's going to make oyabun in record time. “They're off limits. When you or your sister threaten my friends, I will identify them as such and you will both be equally left alone by us. It works both ways between you and your sister, and myself. Do I make myself clear? Let's not pretend to be Water creatures, and let's be creatures of Stone for a moment.”

Oh-sama nods slowly, taking your meaning. You're not going to work out a long, complex, ridiculously intricate oath to try and work around, not this time. You both are perfectly aware of how many ways you can find loopholes. It only makes sense to not bother with them – lives are at stake, and those lives are Ah and Oh's. “If there is the slightest doubt, we will err on the side of caution in your favor, Ryukusa-sama. “Daimyo of Clan Ryo, I understand and sear to respect you and your sister in this matter, and will prevent Clan Ryuu, it's allies and my friends from doing you harm.” You could both spend days working out the intricacies....but you don't have that. This understanding, vague as it is, will prevent more bloodshed – their bloodshed – than an exacting contract. You both place your hand over Buki-san, and you draw the blade down, spilling your blood and hers into the water.

You can feel the blade's elation at being used as a sacred object, not just for slaughter, though she would have enjoyed the fuck out of that. Yet being used as the marker for this oath is also something Buki-san appreciates, a sacred duty as the weapon her master has chosen for a great task. And you can feel, more than she tells you, that she'll enforce the oath in the ultimate manner if it's broken. On either side.

Oh-sama frown, clearly displeased the existence of the weapon was hidden from her as well. “I can see why she'd want to hide such a weapon. She would have been on every dragonne's and dragonette's hit list before the sun rose the next day.” It's obvious she knows exactly which Stone dragonette you mean. “I wouldn't advertise its presence if you don't want something similar happening. Who made such a weapon, and when?”

Shaking your head you shrug. “Haven't the foggiest. The one person who could have told me, bequeathed it to me after the Kaga nearly turned her into a noppera-bo. I served as her second, and whenever I'd met her previously she was threatening to kill people I cared about, generally speaking, so we didn't talk much.” Her eyes narrow and darken at the revelation of Wakaba's unhappy death. “There's no maker's mark, but I haven't checked the tang yet. I don't think the blade was even forged traditionally.”

You stop at requesting help discovering more; she doesn't owe you that much, and it might be dangerous to push your tentative truce just yet.

You locate Ginka-san immediately – you put the Barrier up almost immediately after sending her on her way, after all – but she's not the only one you're worried about now. You can feel Yui-niji-chan is unconscious as it Inau-kun, but they're both inside a strong, cold Barrier, the kind that you associate with Akari-niji-chan. As a result you can't contact anyone else outside of Shoko, Jinyuu, and Er Yin, all three of whom are concentrating on prayers that give you a vital shock the instant you realize they're praying for you....to you. The resulting surge of energy replenishes a healthy amount of your Shen; not enough to put you at full, but more than halfway there.

Unfortunately, it also means you can't interrupt them.

Quickly placing Buki-san into ~Nowhere~ you realize you only have a very small eternity to consider your options; time may be stopped inside the barrier, but that means out here the battle is raging on full force and faster than you dare consider. So you have to make some hard choices really quickly.

While you could complete the ceremony alone, and faster, there is the fact you're not sure how far into the ceremony they got. There's also the fact that you've been soiled, though you managed not to take the 'life' of the youkai in question. Technically, you exorcised it, as a matter of fact, but there was blood involved, and you don't get too much more impure than youkai blood.

Though you don't like the idea of leaving Oh-sama to do this on her own, you want to make sure the ceremony is finished. The Ama and the whole of Mikimoto Pearl Island depend upon it being done, properly. You're not really going to be able to purify yourself here, not really....but you have the next best thing: Ginka-chan, whom you helped purify and is still pure. You hold up both hands, refusing to take the nusa bundle from her, and instead gesture for her to follow you to the bottom of the ocean, where you are meant to leave the nusa and your prayers.

Besides, you have an ace up your sleeve, in that your Herald Yui is now far more closely tied to you than she was before. You might be able to use the Void to help her, and through her your family.

Ginka follows you to the depths, worried but not truly afraid any longer now that you are with her. You can't really take her hand, but you keep pace with her as you reach the bottom of the Ama diving area. There are old casks, long broken open, sacrifices of rice wine and sake to the spirits of the ocean. Several piles of shells, abalone and oysters, clams and mussels, set around a pillar of stones that are sell overgrown with seaweed and barnacles. In the distance, a ningyo swims, her black and violet scales shimmering as she watches you from afar. Ginka waves to her, and she pauses; apparently the mermaid is well known here.

Ginka places the nusa before the pile of rocks, and swims in place, leaving you room to join her. You clap your hands twice and begin the proper prayers....but your thoughts wander to Yui-niji-chan, unconscious, possibly injured, in danger. You keep your eyes closed, feeling her presence in your mind, feeling your power in her and her love for you.

You pray to your father for his blessings for the island, for their prosperity, for their safety in the coming times and great turmoil. Praying for his protection of you and your loved ones in this place and time, you also offer your filial piety, apologizing for only recently understanding that you are his daughter. The warmth of your ties to your loved ones, to Yui-niji-chan, are strong and potent, and with luck he will be as understanding as Amaterasu-Omikami, as Kamuy Fuchi. You blink, looking at your soft golden hands, your delicate nails. You FEEL your long hair....and two tiny bronzed horns sticking out of the darkness of your hair. You blink, and form a mirror of clouds and....no, just clouds, no water.
