You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Currently, you were riding on Tank's shoulders like a child, laughing madly as your enforcer shoves his way through the crowd, his massive armored bulk easily pushing aside the various shoppers and browsers.

"Captain, maybe you should consider getting down." Elizabeth laughs nervously. "When I said we should get the Guild's attention, I didn't exactly picture this..."

"Oh no, this is terribly amusing!" Natalia giggles. "If a confrontation happens to occur, that will mean injuries, and injuries mean lucrative research opportunities..."

"I guess the reports about you being an unconventional doctor were quite correct." Elizabeth eyes your doctor warily.

Meanwhile, Tank remained silent, but you get the impression that he was grinning ear to ear under that helmet of his.

>Okay, you've had your fun. Better get down.

HAHAHAHA, THERE WERE NO BRAKES ON THE TANK.

Tank continues to part the the crowd like Moses parting the Red Sea. He gets numerous angry and poisonous looks, but nobody tries anything against the armored giant. Having a guy like Tank certainly had its perks.

This also gave you a much higher vantage point, letting you see more of the vendor booths. Up ahead, you could see one lined with aquarium tanks, filled with all sorts of exotic looking aquatic creatures. Maybe you could find out something there? The guys staffing the booth and the customers all looked pretty shady, just a tad shadier than the other booths you've seen...

"Bradford, any updates?" You ask through your commlink.

"We've boarded the station, and Lida's already trying to plug into the system." Bradford explains. "But if this data is as sensitive as I think it is, we might have to take it directly from their servers."

Hmmm, maybe you should just let them do their thing.

"Tank, that way!" You tap on his helmet to grab his attention as you point to the booth in question. Tank nods and shifts his direction that way. Almost immediately, the patrons at the front of the booth disappear like pirate ships jumping to FTL, leaving the poor vendor all by himself. The vendor clearly looks like he's considering running as well, but he clearly doesn't want to just abandon his booth.

Well, it's too late anyways, as Tank is already up at the front of the booth, glaring down at him with those artificial helmet eyes of his.

"U-um, is there a-a-anything I can help you with?" The vendor squeaks.

"Hey, hey mister, up here!" You snap your fingers. As you rest your elbow on top of Tank's helmet. "You happen to have any lobster in stock?"

"Ah, well, we do have a few right here!" The vendor laughs nervously as he points a shaky finger to one of the tanks in the back. Sure enough, you could see a couple of lobsters lazing away in it, completely unaware of what was happening outside their little world, or maybe they just didn't care.

"Well, maybe I didn't phrase this correctly." You rest an elbow on top of Tank's helmet as you lean forward a bit. "I was looking to see if you sold them in bulk."

"Well, that's a silly question!" The vendor sweats. "The creatures I sell here are merely pets! Which is a completely legitimate and legal use in all three territories!"

"Hey, HEY!" You snap your fingers. "This ain't the guy talking, I am! Eyes up here!"

"O-of course." The vendor nods rapidly. "T-these are all just pets, like I said!"

Hmmmm, maybe it was better for Elizabeth to handle this.

"Hey, Elizabeth, you mind taking over?" You ask the spy.

"Gladly!" Elizabeth smiles as she seemingly slithers into the conversation, leaning down onto the counter, both elbows nestled onto it. "So, these are all pets, right? What if I wanted to give my friends some pets?"

"How many friends are we talking about?" The vendor frowns suspiciously, his eyes still darting to you and Tank.

"Oh, I have a VERY large friendlist. In the hundreds!" Elizabeth continues with her disarming smile. "Won't you please help me out here?"

"W-well." The vendor pauses as he looks around before leaning close to Elizabeth. "Bay 6 is where youw ant to go."

"Why thank you!" Elizabeth smiles happily as she taps Tank on the shoulder. "Come along now!"

"That's it?" You frown.

"If we pressed him any harder, I get the impression he would have panicked and done something stupid." Elizabeth explains. "At least this way we have a lead."

"Drat. I wanted to at least see an interrogation." Natalia sighs. "One of those tanks had a particularly rare Nerosian Deathstinger. I wanted to see how effective its neurotoxin would be on a human!"

You're kinda half glad that Elizabeth stopped things here now, actually.

"All right, so should we check it out?" You ask, still noticeably perched atop Tank.

"Well, it's up to you, but I'm sure you've figured out it's most likely a trap." Elizabeth shrugs.

"Well, if it's a trap, we'll at least know we're on the track." Natalia muses.

"Hey Tank, you got no problems investigating, right?"

Tank shakes his head. He's ready for anything.

"Thought so." You grin as you activate your commlink. "Bradford, you got an update for us?"

"Scott managed to get us into the server room, and Lida's cracking their systems right now." Bradford reports. "Haven't had any encounters yet, but Scott warns that we may have a tougher time getting out than in. Looks like the crew have noticed that the maintenance paths are being used and they're stepping up patrols."

"All right, do what you have to." You say to him and turn to Elizabeth. "So how to we handle this?"

"Well, we don't exactly have weapons." Elizabeth shrugs.

"Says you." You frown.

"Okay, so I have a holdout on my person." Elizabeth giggles as a small pistol literally materializes in her hand in a flash of blue light. "But that's only one weapon between the four of us."

Tank turns his head to stare at Elizabeth hard.

"Okay, two weapons." She concedes.

"Well, I have a few... 'materials' that could be of use." Natalia smiles evilly. "Mostly few venoms, poisons, and other tactically useful chemicals."

Shit, and you had nothing. Best not to say that out loud.

"Well, in either case, it's not wise for all of us to go in at once." Elizabeth flips the pistol around to present it to you handle first. "I think I should go in. It's not the first trap I've had to bait myself with."

While she did have a point, Tank you felt would be the better choice. He was certainly more durable at the expense of tact, and the ability to actually talk.

"All right, I'll trust you on this, then." You nod as you take the pistol. "So how the hell did you do that, anyways?"

"Something involving hardlight construction. I never really paid attention to the fine print." Elizabeth shrugs.

Suuuuure, she didn't. You get the impression she just didn't want, or wasn't allowed, to really say.

"Anyways, you can keep an eye through my eye implant." Elizabeth points to her left eye. "If I need help, I'll say 'Here come the fuzz.' Got it?"

"Uh huh." You nod. What an odd phrase. You wonder where she got it.

"All right, wish me luck!" Elizabeth gives a little wave before hitting the door control leading into Bay 6. You, Tank, and Natala take cover as Elizabeth walks through, and the blast doors slowly slam back into the closed position after she passes through. You activate your portable display, which begins projecting Elizabeth's visual feed directly to your eye. You see her looking around the landing bay, which save for some cargo crates and a pair of landed shuttles, seemed to be completely empty.

"You need this?" You ask as you try to hand the pistol to Tank.

Tank just gives you a look like you were a child asking the stupidest question ever in class.

"Right, sorry." You sigh.

"Well well well." Elizabeth's feed buzzes as the intercom speaks up. "I heard somebody was snooping around our little business. Care to tell us who you are?"

"Just a simple window shopper, that's all!" Elizabeth says sweetly. "Thought, it's pretty poor practice to treat your potential customers this way?"

The speaker laughs bitterly.

"No angle, I'm just looking for business opportunities!" Elizabeth explains. "After all, even people in the Accord have their needs!"

"Well Miss, I'd like to believe ya, but..." The voice sighs. "Better to be safe than sorry."

Suddenly, the lights inside the bay go red as alarm klaxons blare.

"Um, Elizabeth, what's that for?" You ask.

"Erm, that means they're shutting off the containment field." Elizabeth laughs nervously. "Meaning I'll be sucked out into space."

"Open the door!" You tell Tank.

"That won't work. The doors seal as a safety measure." Elizabeth sighs. "Don't worry, I expected something like this to happen. I'll be fine!"

Something in her voice tells you that even she's not so certain.

"Just get out of here before they find you too!" Elizabeth continues.

Indeed, you could hear the sound of boots slamming against the metal floor as they came closer.

"Tank, open that door! I don't care how!" You bark.

Tank nods and cracks his steel knuckles. There was only one way Tank did things, and it pretty much always worked. There were many kinds of doors and ways to keep them closed. Mechanical locks, electronic locks, magnetic fields, steel bolts, etc. But the one thing they all had in common was that in the end, they had to open up in way or another.

AND BY GOD, Tank would find a way to open that fucking door.

Tank digs his armored fingers into the crack where the doors seal, and with an electronic grunt, PULLS, his powered armor screeching at the effort.

"W-what are you doing?" Elizabeth asks.

"Elizabeth, just get your ass to the door and get read to get through it when it opens!" You order her.

"But-"

"JUST DO IT!" You yell as you take cover behind a crate, your borrowed pistol at the ready.

"Ehehehe, Captain, may I suggest we use this?" Natalia dangles a vial of freakish green liquid.

"Depends, what is it?" You raise an eyebrow.

"An acid that instantly evaporates into a mist when exposed to air. Just think of it as acid in aersol form!" Natalia giggles.

You mix bases into acids, because bases are denser and sink through the acid. The other way around causes the acid to stay on top and BOIL.

"Don't you have anything a little bit... weaker?" You frown.

"Fiiiiiiine." Natalia rolls her eyes, once again her chance to show off limited by silly notions like ETHICS and MORALITY. She pulls out a different vial, clear this time. "This one is a smoke bomb, which would impair their visibility."

"Yeah, use that one." You nod.

Natalia sighs as she tosses the vial down the hall, right when a squad of armed goons round the corner, only to be knocked by an explosion of smoke.

"Ah, what the hell!" One of the men cries.

"Fall back! Fall back!" The other man utters.

"Captain, we got the data, but Lida's saying an alarm's gone off!" Bradford's voice cuts in on the radio. "She says it's nothing on our end. Is something happening?"

"Oh... we just kicked the hornet's nest." You say as nonchalantly as you can.

"We can come support you if you need it." Bradford offers.

"No, get Lida and Scott back tot he ship first. That data is more important!" You instruct.

"Okay, Captain. Just a warning, though. Station security is in an uproar. Whatever you're going to do, do it fast because the whole station is going to be locked down soon." Bradford warns.

"Noted, now get moving." You say before cutting the transmission. You then lean out from the crate a bit and fire off a few shots from the pistol, discharging bright blue bolts of plasma into the smoke cloud at the end of the hall and eliciting panicked shrieks.

"Tank, how's that door doing?"

Tank doesn't say anything as he pries the door open ever so slightly. Just a few inches, but just enough to see Elizabeth peeking through.

"Don't! If you open the door now, you'll just get sucked out too!" Elizabeth yells through the gap.

"Noted!" You grunt as you fire a few more bursts, but the goons are getting their shit back together and start firing back. Thankfully, they're just regular slug throwers, and the bullets bounce uselessly off the crate and Tank's back. Finally, he pries the door open just enough that he's able to reach through the crack and yank Elizabeth into the (relative) safety of the hall.

And just in time, too. The landing bay seal finally fails, causing the entire bay to rapidly decompress with no barrier from the vacuum of space. You can feel the air being sucked out through the gap in the door like water going through the drain.

"Tank, can't you close that?!?" You ask.

Tank shrugs. He OPENS doors. He was never too concerned about CLOSING them again.

"Damnit..." You scowl.

"So, how are we getting out of here?" Elizabeth asks, huddling to cover behind the crate along with you and Natalia.

"Well, we can just punch through them with Tank..." You suggest.

"Well, there IS an alternative plan." Natalia points to the door. "We already have what we need, right? Let's just position the ship outside the bay and let physics take care of the rest."

You and Elizabeth both stare at Natalia as if she's gone crazy. Well, crazier.

"What, am I wrong?" Natalia blinks.

You and Elizabeth both look at Tank. Tank just shrugs.

"Fine, we'll go with your idea!" You groan, ready to quickly regret your decision. "Tank! Open that door even more!"

Tank nods as he grasps the door edges and gives another might pull, grinding the doors open even more. The wind gets even more powerful, even slowly pulling the crate you're taking cover behind closer to the door.

"Jesus, they're opening the door!" One of the goons yells.

"Fall back! We don't got a death wish like them!" Another squeals.

Tank turns back to the three of you and motions for you to get closer. You all form up on him, and his giant arm wraps around all three of you like a big bundle of hay.

"A bit tight, Tank." You wheeze as your body is pressed against Natalia and Elizabeth's.

Elizabeth has a similarly uncomfortable look on her face, while Natalia doesn't seem too bothered about it.

"So uh, these suits of ours ARE protected against vacuum, right?" You ask Elizabeth again for confirmation.

"For a minute or two, yes." Elizabeth nods. "It shouldn't be a problem if your helsmwoman is as good as she says she is."

"I heard that!" Amy's voice grunts over the comm. "Anyways, I'm in position outside Bay 6! If you're gonna come out, it better be now!"

"Tank." You sigh, bracing for the inevitable.

Tank nods. He braces his arm against one door edge and his foot against the other. With one last great effort, Tank's muscles and armors pry the blast doors fully open. Then, as if a lasso was looped around you all, you're all yanked out of the station and into the vacuum of space.

You're pretty sure you're screaming while this is happening, but you don't hear it, or anything for that matter, since sound couldn't travel in vacuum.

That just made you scream even harder.

Your suit beeps when it detects the vacuum and projects a protective shield sphere around your head, keeping the worst of the harsh environment at bay, if only for a little while.

And then you see the hull of the Gullinbursti, lazily sitting just outside the bay. Tank sees it too, and with a puff from built in maneuvering jets in his armor, orients himself so he hits the hull feet first, the leg joints in his armor absorbing the impact.

"Jesus, even I felt that!" Amy grunts. "Opening the nearest airlock!"

You can see a set of doors slide open on the hell, and Tank leaps in, the three of you still securely held under his arm. It's not until the airlock closes and pressurizes that he finally lets go.

"OHMYGOD!" You groan as you flop onto the deck and try to catch your breath.

"Hahaha, so that's what nearly suffocating feels like!" Natalia chuckles as she lies on her back, arms outstretched. "Simply rapturous..."

"N-not my preferred choice of extract." Elizabeth wheezes. "But it worked."

Tank then reaches his hand to you, helping back up to your feet first, and then Elizabeth. He just leaves Natalia lying there, though she didn't really seem to complain.

"Captain!" Bradford's voice cuts in on your comm. "We need you on bridge!"

"What's wrong!?" You ask.

"Station security has scrambled patrol ships, and they're demanding that we dock and explain ourselves." Bradford says. "What do we do?"

"Stall them until I get there." You wheeze as you try to catch your breath.

Tank bends down out of concern for you, but you put our arm up to stop him.

"Thanks Tank, I can take it from here." You pat his armored shoulder. "You should help Elizabeth and Natalia."

Tank nods and stays behind as you exit the airlock and dash for the bridge.

"Captain, I've done the best I could, but they're definitely not happy." Bradford sighs as you sit down in your chair.

"What have we got?" You ask as you boot up your tactical display.

"Three corvette-class ships. Energy signatures suggest they're using energy weapons like ours." Lida reports.

Huh, you guess with an organization like the Guild, they had the money to get nothing but the best.

"Gullinbursti, this is Station Control. I repeat, power down your systems and dock at Bay 1." The controller's voice says with a hard edge. "Failure to do so will result in us firing on your ship!"

You decide that it's best for you to talk your way out of this. You'd rather not poison your relations with the Guild right from the get go.

"Station Control, this is Captain Wellings of the Gullinbursti. For what reason are you asking us to be taken into your custody?" You ask.

"Your ship is in violation of station safety procedures by breaking from your designated docking point without permission. You are also suspected of causing significant property damage to the station, as well as disturbing the peace." The controller grunts. "You are required to personally appear in front of our disciplinary committee in order to explain your actions."

Hmmm, well, it doesn't seem like they're aware of the data theft. but maybe this was a pretext to get you back on the station.

"Sorry, but we're on official Accord business, and we have to be going." You say. "You know, criminal investigation and all."

THAT certainly creates a pause. After all, the Accord was a powerful economic bloc that even Guild had to respect. No doubt, the controller was conferring with his bosses over what to do.

"Gullinbursti, you will be let off with a warning at this time." The controller grumbles. "Keep in mind that if you perform any more infractions in our space in the future, we will not be so accommodating."

>Guild Reputation has degraded from NEUTRAL to CAUTIOUS.

"Roger that, Control." You no as you quickly motion for Amy to FTL jump before they change their minds. "Your kindness will be remembered."

"We'll see about that."

The three patrol corvettes do not pursue as Amy files Gullinbursti out to the FTL jump point.

"So, do we had back to Eridani?" Amy asks. "Try and get a handle on all that data?"

"Captain, we can double back in quiet mode and see if there's any unusual activity in response to our departure." Bradford suggests.

"What, and piss them off even more?" Elsa raises an eyebrow.

You decide to go check on Tank to see how he was doing. You head over to the armory where he most likely was hanging out. Indeed, you see Tank there, dutifully doing inventory on the various assorted weapons and armors, a tiny little clipboard somehow being held in his massive gauntlets as he carefully checks off his list.

You know, you actually didn't know all that much about Tank. His personnel files were pretty sparse on details, and he was never really the talkative type. Hell, you didn't even know what he looked like. The guy was a big enigma in all respects. Maybe you could ask Elizabeth if she knew anything about him?

Anyways, you walk in slowly, knocking on the wall to get his attention. The way Tank slowly turns to face you indicates that he already knew you were coming, so the knocking was a bit unnecessary.

"Hey there, big guy. How are you doing?" You ask with a smile.

Tank shrugs.

"Not hurt or anything, I wager."

Tank shakes his head.

"So, how's all that new Accord tech been treating you?" You ask as you take a seat on one of the work tables, your legs dangling back and forth over the edge. "Like those robot drones. What do you think about them? Easier to work with than regular humans, or more difficult?"

Tank shrugs.

"No opinion?"

Shrug.

"Better cannon fodder, at least?"

Tank nods. He'd feel guilty if he used a human as a shield.

"Heh, thought so." You chuckle. "Don't mind working with them?"

Tank nods. As long as Scott keeps them in working order there's nothing to complain about.

"I know you tend to prefer the rougher and tougher Hegemony stuff, but it looks like you're doing too bad in this armor.

Tank shrugs.

"Gotta be a bit more expressive than that." You frown. "Come on, you don't have to be shy around me."

Tank points to his own chest and gives a thumbs up. Guess he likes it. He then points to YOU and gives a thumbs down. You pause to try and figure out what he means when it suddenly hits you.

"W-well it's not like I have much choice in the matter." You grumble as your cheeks redden a bit.

Tank puts his hands on his hips, clearly not convinced.

As much as that will prove interesting, I don't believe Sam will just assume Tank is a guy without basic paperwork

"Ah, well, the uniform does have its benefits..." You chuckle.

Tank bends down to glare at you straight in the face.

"It's not sexual harassment if the Captain does it." You grin.

Tank just shakes his head, exasperated that you still haven't changed.

"Frankly, I'm surprised you haven't shown any approval for it." You give a sly grin and prod your elbow into his chestplate. "Or maybe you are and you're just hiding it?"

Tank calmly and gently swats your arm away. He's not taking the bait.

"Fine." You pout. "I'm gonna head over to the infirmary. You want to come with?"

Tank shrugs.

"Well, I'll leave you to your work, then." You say as you push yourself off the table and stand up.

Tank gives a slight nod and pats you on the shoulder before returning to inspecting all of the assembled weapons and armor. You exit the armory and head for the infirmary, where you see Elizabeth sitting on the examination table, trying to keep Natalia at arm's length.

"You certainly have a persistent doctor, Captain." Elizabeth laughs nervously. "Very dedicated to her science..."

"Natalia, what exactly are you trying to force feed her?" You groan.

"Oh, just a refinement of the growth formula that I gave you before!" Natalia says cheerfully. "Like you, it appears she'd benefit greatly from it!"

"W-what are you talking about?!" Elizabeth blinks in surprise.

Not the worst thing that could result from experimental stuff:

"Hmmmm." Natalia hums to herself as she checks the scanner.

"Are you sure that was a good idea?" Elizabeth whispers to you. "Isn't just ingesting whatever she makes... dangerous?"

"Ah well, despite how odd she is, I trust Natalia not making something that could KILL me." You reply.

"Are you sure about that?"

Your silence is rather telling to her.

"Aha!" Natalia chirps. "You grew one entire inch!"

"An... inch?" You blink.

"Yes! One whole inch!" Natalia nods in confirmation.

"That... doesn't seem like-" Elizabeth starts.

"THAT'S AWESOME!" You cheer.

"I know, right?" Natalia laughs.

And Elizabeth's expression shows that she's teetering on that line between being glad for boarding this ship or utter regret for boarding this ship.

Yeah, she's alright in your opinion.

A bigger chest is nore noticable on a shortie than someone taller.
>>
>>45836002

Might as well say any other side effects that would produce 'samples' for future testing (for good or for ill). As long as she doesn't start messing around with artificial humans or extraterrestrial stuff, it should be fine.

We sacrifice our body for science?
