You do a double take as you try to process what Steinberg just said to you over the phone. "I'm sorry, did you just say Princess Cross? As in, Kimberly Cross?"

"Look kid, I don't bother to remember people's real names, but you know exactly who I'm talking about. Don't act so shocked, intergender matches aren't exactly uncommon anymore. Hell, the UPW United States Champion is a dame, for Christ's sake! I'm offering you and your girlfriend a spot on the card, okay? You got a problem with it?"

>No, I've got no problem. Was just a little surprised, is all.
>[KIND] Well, me and the Princess are good friends. It just feels weird going against her.
>[EGO] You think I'm wrestling a woman? You've got to have better competition for me!

You hear Steinberg scoff from the other end of the phone. "Kid, let me fill you in on a little secret... wrestling's fake. You're a face, she's a heel, your characters are gonna fight. I doubt Princess minds very much. Just show up on Friday, put on a good show, and I might even ask you back for another one."

You hear a click as Steinberg hangs up. Well, at least you've got another job this Friday. That's always a good thing. Now that you've finished your days work in the gym, however, you find yourself wondering how to spend the rest of your day. The sun is lowering as you head out to the parking lot.

You and Kimberly hop into your car and drive to the nearest Chinese restaurant. Kimberly is fidgeting in the passenger seat. "So, it's you and me going toe-to-toe in Friday, Ace? That's going to be pretty weird." You acknowledge her while trying hard not to take your eyes off the road. "I mean, I guess it's only our second match, so it's best to share the ring with someone you're familiar with... could be worse, I guess. I could be in there with Fisk. You step into the ring with that guy, you'll be feeling everything for the next week."

You give a small laugh as you pull up out the front of the restaurant. Your stomach growls as you take a look in your wallet.

>FUNDS: 25$

Kimberly leans over and checks inside your wallet nosily. "Wow, how much did that gear set you back? Don't forget you're paying for my meal! Don't worry, I won't order anything big. About 5$ will cover it. What are you getting?"

>I should probably order light as well. [5$]

You take a chair in the restaurant as Kimberly sits opposite you. "I still can't believe we're actually performing shows now," she says between bites. "I'm still reeling from actually having graduated wrestling school. I was giddy as hell last night... my sister didn't really appreciate it, seeing as I chose to celebrate while she was trying to sleep on my futon."

She gives you a careful examining look when you don't say anything. "Okay Ace, I know you're usually the strong silent type, but don't think for a second I don't know when you want to ask something. So, what is it?"

Kimberly shifted uncomfortably in her chair. "It seemed like fun," she shrugged. "Why else does anyone get into this? I'm sure you watched Stunning Steve Awesome cracking open a few beers as a kid and deciding to do it too. Or maybe Kevin Omega main eventing Starrcade 2002? My story's no different than anyone else's."

"There's got to be more of a reason than that," you reply.

There is a brief silence before Kimberly sets off again. "Look, just drop it, okay?"

You didn't expect such a reaction from such a simple question. She clearly is hiding something, but doesn't feel comfortable lying to you. You wonder if it's best to just let it be for now.

You decide it's best to drop what is clearly a touchy subject for Kimberly. The two of you continue to eat Chinese as the conversation drifts towards training for the match coming up this Friday.

"Just so you know, I'm going to give it my best come this Friday," she tells you. "I know just how good you are. I mean, you were Omega's... second favourite student. But I don't intend on getting left in the dust and looking bad in comparison. And I expect you to bring your A-Game too!"

The two of you continue to chat until the meal has been payed for and the two of you walk out to the car. You drive Kimberly back to her place on the way back to your own apartment. She sighed as she opened the car door. "Back to another few hours with my sister... catch you later, Ace." She smiled and winked at you as she went back inside and you drove home.

Once you reached your apartment, your cell-phone starts ringing. You're more popular than usual today. You look down to see a caller ID you didn't expect. It's fellow Dojo graduate David Fisk.

You answer the call and press the phone against your ear. Fisk's familiar low, gruff voice comes in loud and clear.

"Meet me outside Iron Height Gym tomorrow. 8am sharp. Don't be late."

A simple 'hello' would have been nice, but that isn't really Fisk's style. Guy's far too direct and blunt for his own good.

"Yo, this IS Robin Winters, right? I've never called this number before, so it could be wrong."

You try to ask Fisk exactly why he's calling you, and what he needs you to meet up with him for. "If I wanted to tell you, I would, wouldn't I?" he replied. "Just be there, or don't. Whatever." Fisk is quick to hang up. You sigh and place the phone back into your pocket before feeding Maslow and heading off to bed.

>WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9th 2016

Your alarm wakes you slightly earlier than usual. You bang the snooze button in anger before remembering why it was set at such a time. David Fisk expects you to meet him outside Iron Heights Gym at 8am. A pretty unreasonable request from a guy you've only ever spoken a few words to, despite graduating from the same wrestling school class. In fact, very few people talked to David. He was a pretty intimidating guy standing at 6'8'', and his attitude was more than a little rough around the edges, so most tended to avoid the guy out of fear. It also led to a rumour that his character, the Badass "Kingpin" of a gang was more than just a character.

>If he called me up, it must be something important. Better go.

You drive on out to the Iron Heights Gym parking lot, finding David leaning against the wall of the building's exterior. Sporting a lengthy black leather coat and a woollen cap to match, the man is a shady looking fellow. You're almost afraid to even approach him... until you see him talking with some skinny looking kid. Couldn't be older than 16. You walk up to the two, and Fisk nods his head in acknowledgement of your presence. "Good, I didn't know if you'd show up." He points out the kid, "This right here is Jimmy DeLuca."

Jimmy nervously waves. "H-hi."

"Jimmy filled me in on these two guys who like to hang out here during the day, and who've tried to push steroids and shit onto people before, including Jimmy here. When he turned them down, they tried to jump him. I figured you might be willing to help me teach a lesson to those punks."

You're a little surprised. You didn't think of Fisk to be the type to stand up for the little guy. You're not surprised that his solution is apparently violence though.

>Sure, I'll help out. Serves them right for trying to push drugs.
>Why do you need me? I'd have thought you could hand;e a couple of punks on your own.

You agree to help out Fisk, who keep his hands in his pockets and doesn't change his expression. The guy has a permanent sullen face. "Good, follow me and watch my back. Here they come now."

You turn your head and see two men stepping out of a conspicuous minivan. You trail behind David as he approaches the two men. "If I were you two, I'd get back in your van and drive away. Drug pushers aren't welcome here."

The man on the left stands up to David, but the fear in the guy's eyes are clear. "I'm sorry, bro? You think you can just step up to us?"

"Leave now, and we won't have any more trouble."

The dealer on the left tries to laugh it off, before taking a wild swing at Fisk, who easily dodges the blow and levels his opponent with a head-butt. The window for resolving this peacefully seems to have passed, as the man on the right lunges at you.

The two dealers run off, not even bothering to climb into their van, instead opting to just sprint until they were a speck on the distance.

"Let's hope they learned their lesson," David mumbled, as he returned his hands into his jacket pockets. "I can't stand people like that, trying to push that shit on kids..."

He then turns his attention over to you. "Thanks for the help. I appreciate it."

As soon as you make it back to the apartment, you call up Kimberly and ask her if she wants to come over to watch Code of Respect and talk about your upcoming match.

"Sure thing, Ace! I'll be over as soon as I can!"

15 minutes later, and there's a knock on your door. You open it to find Kimberly standing in your doorway with a six-pack in her hand. "Phew, made it in time! I think I just set a record making it over here!" You let her into the apartment as she examines your pet tarantula. "Ugh, spiders really freak me out, but they're not as scary when they're blue... Oh, I forgot!" She pulls a can from the six-pack and offers it to you. "How rude of me to just walk in without so much as offering you a drink!"

"Oh yeah, I forgot about that," Kimberly mumbled guiltily, before perking back up again. "Oh well, more for me!" She took a quick swig as she plopped herself on your couch. She patted the spot next to her as you grab the remote for your TV, switching the channel over to Code of Respect, before sitting. You chat about Friday's match with Kimberly. "Don't worry too much about planning the thing," Kimberly tells you, "At our level of experience, the whole thing will be covered by the Road Agent. All we need to worry about is being in good shape for the night."

Kimberly curls up next to you as you remain transfixed on the screen. The opening contest is a singles match between Owen Barnes and Viktor Koloff. Kimberly's eyes light up as you see Koloff and Barnes perform a top-class technical sequence ending in Barnes locking in a rolling Cross-armbreaker. "It's no wonder UPW's after that guy so badly," she says, "It was really cool sharing a card with him on Monday. What do you think about Barnes?"

>He's the best on the scene. I'd be honoured to work with him sometime.

It's a relationship question.

>Sure, he's good... but I don't think he's as great as everyone says. He's still got a long way to go before he's the best.

Then we say our favorite legendary wrestler.

Kimberly scoffs. "Yeah, I'm sure that's not just the jealousy talking. I wish I could do half the things he can do in the ring." She then nudges you with her elbow and smiles coyly. "Plus, he's a total dreamboat."

You roll your eyes. "I didn't say he wasn't good, I'm just saying he's not the best. Not yet, anyway."

"Oh? And who, in your opinion, is the best?"

>Takeshi Misawa, master of the strong striking style
>St. John, technical wrestling genius
>"The Sharpshooter" Stu Soul, the man of 1000 submission holds
>Mr. Mystery, the greatest flying luchadore of all time
>Stunning Steve Awesome, the biggest and most charismatic star in wrestling history
>Darth Vann, the most powerful monster the world has ever seen
>Richard Styles, the dirtiest player in the game
>Robert Snakeskin, the finest of in-ring generals
>Terry Chainsaw, Pioneer of hardcore wrestling
>The Reaper, the toughest son of a bitch to ever walk into a wrestling ring

Man, that's tough, because any one of these will boost our stats. I'm stuck between Takeshi Misawa, Mr. Mystery, Stunning Steve Awesome, and Robert Snakeskin.

Why do we want Ace to be the most generic indie trashbag wrestler out there again?
>>
>>45871147
Cause eventually they'll realize that we're the BEST generic indie trashbag wrestler.

But seriously

>[YOUR FLYING STAT HAS RISEN TO RANK 2]
>[YOU HAVE LEARNED THE ELBOW DROP SKILL]

"Okay, that's a pretty good choice I guess. Explains your love for Lucha masks, at least," she answers. The two of you sit back and watch the rest of the show, as you soak up all the knowledge from studying the matches and ongoing storylines in Code of Respect.

>[YOUR LORE SOCIAL STAT HAS RISEN TO RANK 2]

As the show comes to a close, Kimberly yawns and stretches her arms. "Ugh, I need to start walking back to my place now if I hope to get back there at a reasonable time. See you soon, Ace." With that she takes her leave as you remain seated on the couch.

You open up your laptop and load up the newest released shoot interview from Highspots, and you're a little shocked to see it's from the man who trained you, Kevin Omega.

>[Welcome to Highspots! Joining us today, Six-Time world champion Kevin Omega.]
Thank you for having me.

>[So... Starrcade 2016. You'll be Main Eventing the show against Johnny Mercer. Is this a sign of World title number 7? Or are we looking at one last main event run? There have been plenty of retirement hints these last few months.]
Ha... well, I can't tell you that it will be my last match, but it will definitely be my last Starrcade Main Event. No surprise there... I feel I've still got plenty of energy left in the tank, but I'm 43 years old and not getting any younger, you know? In this business, you need to step aside for the younger talent, put them over as much as possible on your way out, and if my UPW career's been good for anything, it's putting guys over.

>[You've had a very complicated relationship with UPW, and particularly it's owner, Vincent Crockett.]
"Complicated" is putting it lightly. Vincent and I hate each other almost as much as we respect each other. I think the only thing we've ever agreed on is that we just can't agree. UPW has always promoted me as a world-class talent, one of the biggest of all-time, but in the last 20 years, I haven't been pushed as a proper main eventer for more than a few months at a time. The majority of my UPW career has been spent as a utility player. My spot on the card becomes stagnant for a while, because Vince trusts me to put on a great match with anyone, make them look good, but he never planned for me to be "The Guy".
>>
>>45872349
>[On that note, your frustrations with UPW have reached a boiling point several times, and you haven't been afraid to walk away from the company for extended periods of time, correct.]
That's very true. In 2005, tensions between myself and the company got too high and I pissed off to Japan for two years. I put on some clinics, had a few personal dream matches, held the UJGP championship for most of it, and I came back fresh in 2007. In 2014, I moved to a part-time schedule to focus on my wrestling school. But no matter how much I argue and scream at Vincent, and he does the same to me, I'm always brought back, because I'm a value to the company. I'm a big star, a credible opponent, who can bring the best out of anyone. If that's my legacy as a wrestler, I can die happy.

>[You brought up your wrestling school. Could we expect one of your Dojo's graduates being picked up by UPW anytime soon?]
No, definitely not. *laughs* It sounds cruel, but I'm not in the business of giving hand-outs. When I broke into this business, I had zero connections. I had to get by completely on my own merits, and that pressure pushed me to improve and change and challenge myself constantly until I had reached the top. I don't want any of my students getting anywhere because of nepotism. It's not how you succeed in this business.
>>
>>45872363

>[Okay, but is there any of your students you can see hitting the big time sooner rather than later?]
Honestly, all of them have great potential. They're a good bunch of kids, and not to toot my own horn, but I'm a good teacher. But if I had to choose a stand-out, there's one kid out of the first graduating class that excelled in pretty much every regard. Young guy by the name of Danny Gable. Expect to see "Diamond" Danny Gable headlining shows in the near future. The kid's got talent, and he's got heart. Hell, all of them have the heart. One kid vomited twice on his first day, but kept going no matter how much the drills hurt him. Kid by the name of Robin Winters. At the end of the first day, I looked that kid straight in the eye and gave him permission to use my finisher, because he had earned it. Hope he makes it.

>[Well, I guess we should be on the lookout for those two names on the independents. Thank you for your time.]
The pleasure's all mine.

You shut your laptop down with a smile. The endorsement in the interview was bound to help your presence in the industry. You climb into your bed with a newly instilled confidence.

And that's all for tonight's thread! Thanks for playing! Let me know what you think!
>>
>>45872363
>won't even use his pull to get his students a tryout
What an asshole. This guy's getting buried in our book.
>>
>>45872407
Well I think you ought to count votes better cause there were clearly more in support to sleep. Like a 5 to 3 vote.
>>
>>45872363
>nepotism
>not how you succeed in wrestling.

no words.
>>
>>45872439
Most of those votes came after the voting deadline had been reached and I was well into writing the next post.
>>
>>45872504
As someone who voted to sleep, I am actually okay with this. Endorcment and background info is extremely nice.

Good thread Bookerman, will we be seeing more simple character sheets from of our friends as time goes by? Just for clarity's sake?
>>
>>45872504

How long is the window to vote?
>>
>>45872629
>will we be seeing more simple character sheets from of our friends as time goes by? Just for clarity's sake?
Yes, definitely.

>>45872656
Usually around 15-20 minutes, depending on how quickly voting goes. If an option receives say 3-4 votes within the first few minutes, I begin writing for that option immediately. And of course, I may have to wait longer than 20 minutes sometimes before the is a clear decided option.
>>
>>45872728

Understood. Thanks for clearing that up and for running this.
>>
>>45872728
Thanks again man. Really great quest. Can't wait for the next one.
>>
>>45872728
You're doing an awesome job, bro.
