You are Takashi Wakui, a sixteen year old Japanese high school student. In your world, half of humanity possesses a Persona—the corporeal manifestation of one’s personality as a supernatural entity. You had been an unlucky ordinary at first, lacking the potential to summon your Persona. Then the application AETHER was forcibly installed on your smartphone. It sucked you into the nightmarish realm of the Blackened Void, where you fought monsters and awakened your Persona in the process.

You are now the Wild Card of the 22nd Century. You possess the Fool Arcana, giving you the power to draw strength from bonds and wield multiple Personas at once. Already this places you in great danger, as the Fool Arcana is seen as an impossibility by the common masses. Revealing your newfound power to the common world would immediately land your head on a dissection table. To make matters worse, you and several others have been cursed as the Void’s Chosen, fated to traverse the wastelands of the Blackened Void until the end of the game. For what purpose does AETHER exist, what mysteries lie within and how is victory achieved?

According to the watch on your phone, it’s nearly six at night.

“What are you doing?”

“Sealing these used clothes into a containment bag bought from Quinn. Do you perhaps perceive something else, Takashi?”

You look at Fumika. Her facial expression is same as ever: unamused and unimpressed with a hint of distaste mixed in between. You can’t decide whether or not her dripping hair, a product of the half-an-hour long shower she took while you and the rest of the team were basking in Hebi-Ko’s hot springs, exemplifies this trait or adds a layer of unintentional hilarity.

Taking your brief silence as affirmation, she resumes packing the clothes into the plastic containment bag. Her shirt, jumper, trousers and socks slide down the transparent sides with a faint squelch. 114’s internal fluids, glowing a foul green reminiscent of stereotypical nuclear waste, drip from the various articles and form a sludgy pool at the bottom of the bag. You wince and avert your eyes.

“Fumika, there was a good reason why we asked you sit in an entirely different carriage on the train ride.” You grumble.

“I am aware, but this bag is designed to block out the majority of foul smells of the objects within.” With a sweep of her arm, Fumika zips the bag shut. “See?”

You sniff the air. She's correct. The smell has almost completely vanished. Just to make sure, you open a nearby window. “Okay, but exactly do you plan to do with these clothes?”

“Observe them, of course. I acquired a portable camera for this very purpose.”

You inspect the thimble-sized device. “You’re going to do this in the storeroom, aren’t you.”

“Of course.”

“This better not stink up the place.” You warn, “Because if it does, I’m holding you responsible.”

“In the event the safehouse becomes contaminated to the extent where purging the building with fire is a viable solution, I will personally hack into the Akumachi-Kirijo database and change all your grades to 100s. You have my word.”

You gape at her, before sighing. “Please don’t do that. That would be so cheap.”

[6:00pm, 27-May-2129 (FRIDAY)]

“Fumika, want to walk to the train station with us?”

“No, thank you. I wish to stay here for a while longer.”

“Oh, boo. Your choice. Guess it’s the three of us, then!”

Celeste leads you and Akikazu out of the exit and into the run-down alleyway. The smell of dust and rotting garbage clogs your nostrils. The three of you don’t even make it past the first row of dustbins before Akikazu starts to complain.

“Oi.”

“What?” You say.

“You guys live in this district, right? Go home already. I can walk home by myself.”

Celeste giggles. “And leave you to be jumped on by a gang of thugs? Heavens no, Osaragi.”

“I’m not a fucking sissy, Tachibana.” He scowls.

You can’t help but grin mischievously. “Akikazu, do Celeste and I have to repeat it again?”

“Repeat what?” He grunts.

Your smile widens and you take a deep breath. “The three of us are—”

“Okay, shut the hell up.”

“You know you like having us.” Celeste pats him on the back. His frown deepens, but he doesn’t make any further comment.

The sky is growing dark, washed with greys and deep blues. After walking for a bit, you and your two friends descend down the elevators to the depths of the crowded District 6 train station. As expected, the rush hour is in full swing. Starving workers chow down at small cafes near the ticket barriers. Hounded officers fine free riders. The thumps and clops of footsteps hitting the ground is only barely exceeded by the hubbub of the crowd.

You reach the designated platform. According to a nearby display, the next train won’t be here for five minutes. This is the end of the line for you—no pun intended. You are about to bid Akikazu goodbye when you notice someone familiar out of the corner of your eye. You narrow your eyes to look closer. It’s a guy with spiky black hair, a slouch and a worn blazer. He’s standing a good number of feet away from you, checking something on his phone with his head bent down. Then he slaps his forehead, mutters something beneath his breath and stares forward into the distance. He doesn't look pleased, far from it.

“Hey!” Akikazu snaps his fingers in front of you, causing you to jump. “The hell you doing, Takashi?”

“It’s Chikashi.” You hear yourself say. “He’s over there.”

“The guy who you’ve been running into lately? The one you and Fumika thought was suspicious?” Celeste asks. “What about him?”

“Well…”

I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. I might have gone a bit overboard, maybe? I'll let the reader decide. As always, I'd love feedback. (You)s are my heroin.

And apologies for those who really wanted the scene of Akikazu sodomizing a turkey. I just couldn't find a way to realistically fit the scene into the story, so I had to delete it.

“Everyone, we’re tailing him.” You say. “Move.”

“Wait, why?” Celeste cries.

“Because he’s suspicious and I need to find out more about him.” You reply, still keeping your eyes on Chikashi.

“You do realize this makes you look like a stalker, right?” She points out.

“If we’re going to argue, I’d say he’s the one who has been stalking me for the past couple of days. Plus, Fumika and I agreed that he might be a candidate for the next Player, so there.”

“I don’t know, Takashi-kun, this isn’t how I imagined spending my Friday night.”

“Look, it’s Leader’s orders so stop arguing. I’ll buy you guys dinner on the way back as well.”

“This better not be a damn waste of time…” Akikazu grumbles, as the train slides into the station. Celeste gives up and follows you.

The metal doors open and you and your friends pile in. You sneak into a spot at the opposite end of the carriage—far enough to not be seen, but not so distant that you’ll lose sight of your target. The doors slide shut and the train rumbles down the track. This ride goes around the city loop, from district to district with a few minor stations in between. Stops for Synth Central, Shakedown March, Silver Town and the Devil’s Hub flash past. You tune out the dull, mechanized voice of the intercom and focus your attention on Chikashi. He’s now looking at his phone.

Celeste nudges you in the side. “Hey, do you think AETHER’s already installed on his phone?”

“Could be…” You say, resisting the urge to bite your nails. That’s one habit you kicked a year ago. With recent events being so stressful, it’s threatening to rise up again like a demon from hell. “Either that, or he’s constantly checking social media. We can't tell for sure.”

“Can Fumika detect AETHER applications on other devices? Without AETHER itself, I mean.”

“I…don’t know,” You admit. “I’ll have to ask her. I’d guess the answer is no, though.”

"What do you even plan to do with him, anyway?"

"I'll know when the time comes, alright?"

Five minutes later, the train arrives at Chikashi’s stop. You see him walk out the carriage and urge your friends to do the same. You follow his path through the station. Up the escalators, past the barrier, past the small underground shopping strip and out into the surface.

It’s only when a few moments later, after glancing around at the worn streets and factory smoke rising from industrial chimneys, that you realize where you are.

“This is the Grey Ward.” You gasp. “Why would Chikashi be here?”

“Cheap housing?” Celeste offers.

You consider this. “Yeah, that makes sense. Fumika said that Chikashi had moved here from main Tokyo to study. If I needed to find a cheap apartment, I’d probably come here. Not my first choice, though.”

Akikazu cracks his knuckles and snarls. “The people here don’t know how to leave me the fuck alone. Stay on the main roads.”

“Duly noted.”

“So…are we following this guy to his house or what?” Celeste asks.

“Let’s just keep moving.”

You continue to tail Chikashi. It leads you down twisting roads, shadowed by high-rise buildings. As expected, the Grey Ward is a lot filthier than places such as the Silver Town. Colors range from grey to brown, with hardly anything hot in between. There’s quite the abundance of garbage. The bigwigs in charge of the city often talk about revamping the area, but quickly get sidetracked by other, more ‘important’ tasks.

Still, it isn’t as bad as the Fallen Downtown.
>>
The place would have to be infested with flesh-eating termites to be.

“Wait, what’s he doing?”

Chikashi gulps, his hands trembling. Then he takes one step into a small back alley and disappears from sight. You rush up and slide your back against the brick wall, not daring to peek around the corner. Seconds later, voices floating from the inside.

“Uh…hey.”

“Well, well, well, if it’s ain’t Chikashi Yone.” This one is gruffer, more sadistic. "What's up?"

"Not bad, not bad."

"I, was, uh, just passing through so don't mind me..."

“Whoa whoa, not so fast. We have business, you and I. Did you bring what was due?”

“Um, about that, I sort of run into trouble with my rent and…”

“So, that’s a no, then?”

“N-not really. I've got a friend who can help me out. I just need a little more time...”

“I see. Hey boys, it seems like this little shit is telling a big fat lie. He ain't giving us the proper respect. Why don’t we teach him a lesson?”

You then hear a skull being slammed against a nearby wall.

Nope. This is actually the final part of the story. I was going to continue it, but then I realized that I had found such a beautifully tragic ending that it would be an insult to my art to continue it.

I hoped to capture the foolishness of a first love and the troubles it would cause when mixed with an awakening sexuality. Similar to Romeo and Juliet, except not at all. You may notice that there is no external conflict; all of the problems in the story come from our hero and heroine, and the issues they have which prevent them from taking the next step on the road to a real relationship. Takashi is mainly clueless about romance, which he has only been exposed to through fictional depictions, which retards his budding emotional attraction to Celeste. Meanwhile, Celeste is stuck between her desires and her uncertainties, which she does not wish to even acknowledge, as it is not part of her Arcana to even HAVE uncertainties. Her concerns about the Magician’s Curse, a fabled cause of grief to those of the Magician Arcana, are used as a mask to cover her uncertainties, and a ‘logical’ reason why she shouldn’t seek a relationship with Takashi. It’s not her fault if it’s fated that her relationship with him would be doomed, is it?

Ironically, it is her attempts to rebuke the Curse that brings it to fruition. After being so intimate with Takashi, she pushes him away, hiding how much it hurts her to do so. This leads Takashi to believe that she never really liked him that much in the first place, which further widens the gap between them, and sends them down a road that is sure to end in broken hearts and broken friendships.

A tragic love that could have been, but wasn't. The ending is left for the reader to fill in, for who can truly say what would happen in the future? Me. I can. Because I'm just fucking with you. The sixth and final part will be posted next week, during the White Day special that TT promised us.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what’s going on. Several voices join in the fun. They laugh and heckle. Someone is thrown into a garbage can. Metallic clangs echo through the alleyway. Rubbish of all kinds, wet and sticky and hard and sharp, is thrown in all directions. There’s a scream.

You barely know Chikashi. If you had to give your honest opinion, it’s weird the way he’s so friendly with you. He’s not someone you’ve formed a bond with, he’s not your fellow member of the Void’s Chosen, he’s not family. In fact, he’s little more than a random passerby who started chatting with you all of a sudden. You’d put your classmates, most of whom you don’t really know, above him.

Yet you find yourself dashing into the alleyway, with Celeste yelling behind you.

“Stop!” You shout.

You enter where Chikashi is and skid to a halt. The guy is slumped up against the wall of the alley, clutching himself. His face is bleeding. Tears roll down his cheeks. A few nasty bruises are forming on his arms and cheeks. An overturned garbage can lies next to him, the muck within partially covering uniform. Seems like he was thrown into the bin and then kicked a few times.

No doubt by the five delinquents standing around him in a circle. The biggest one with a baseball cap turns to you. He’s carrying a makeshift club, fashioned from a baseball bat.

“Ah? Who’s this shithead?” he growls.

In the corner, Chikashi groans and opens his eyes. “Takashi, what are you doing here?”

“I…” You gulp. “I heard the shouts! What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“I’d ask you the same question.” The leader of the delinquents snap. “Get the fuck out of here. This ain’t your business. Unless…”

A terrible smirk grows on his lips. He walks over and leers at Chikashi. “This is the ‘friend’ you were talking about, Yone. What do you say?”

“I…I…” The delinquent kicks Chikashi again and he howls.

“Eh, probably not. You don’t have any friends who would help you. They’re all too chickenshit. We checked.” He then focuses your attention on you. “Likely case, you begged this guy for money because you knew him as a kid or something. That’s the kind of person you are. But if he is your friend…well then, we’ll have to teach him a lesson as well.”

You clench your fists. “Why are you doing this?”

“This asshole borrowed money from us, but didn’t pay up. So it’s only fair that we get to beat him up a little.” The leader of the delinquent spits on the ground.

“You’re the one who charged me with interest!” Chikashi yells.

“Shut up!” Another delinquent stamps on his chest, grinding it in painfully. “You don’t get to talk.”

“Stop hurting him!” You find yourself yelling.

“Ha!” The leader of the delinquents claps his hands together. “Look at this little man! He gives a shit about Yone. He’s getting pissed! Why don’t you take us on, if you’re so mad?”

Part of you wants to charge in, fists swinging. But the part more grounded in common sense forces you to hesitate. The grin on the delinquent’s face widens.

“Come on, be a hero! Save this worthless piece of trash!” The delinquent leader goads. At his words, the rest of his gang advances. They come at you from all sides, sneering and cackling. You back away. The blood inside of you is boiling. Chikashi looks on, pitiful from his spot in the corner.

Then you hear footsteps running up to you.

“Takashi-kun, wait for us!”

“Who told you run out there like a retard?” You look over your shoulder to see Celeste and Akikazu there. “Jesus fucking Christ man, at least talk it out with us—”

Akikazu then notices the five delinquents. His eyes narrow dangerously.

“What the fuck is this?” he growls.

"Oh my, this doesn't look good." Celeste mutters.

"More newcomers, eh?" The delinquent leader locks eyes on Celeste and smirks. "A girl, too..."

The tension is palpable. Everyone in the vicinity has grinded to a standstilll. Cars roll past in the distance, oblivious to the broken, bleeding boy. Behind her back, Celeste snaps her fingers and ignites a flame. Akikazu looks thunderous, his face contorted into an image raw fury. The delinquents aren’t exactly calm either. Some of them are staring right at Celeste. You can practically the outline of the upcoming fight forming in the environment.

Whoever takes the first move will be at an advantage. You force yourself to take a deep breath. In and out. Anger will cloud your judgement. You need to steady yourself and think of the best way to get out of this situation.

>>[Akikazu: Terrifying Presence] Have Akikazu intimidate them.

One of the delinquents locks eyes onto Akikazu. A second later, he immediately wishes he hasn’t. A sense of pure rage is flowing from your blonde-haired friend, like a river of lava. It coats the walls and infects the air, sending shivers down the delinquent’s back. His legs turn to jelly. Then they threaten to liquefy as he realizes who Akikazu is.

“Hey, not for nothing…” The delinquent’s teeth chatter. “That’s the blonde guy, isn’t it? The one who took out three guys at once without barely a scratch?”

“Never heard of him.” Another delinquent says. “You’re thinking too much."

“No, I’m serious. It’s him! That Osaragi guy!” The delinquent is shaking enough to make a washing machine feel jealous. “He fucked up those guys in the east part of the district. He’s a Persona-user, too!”

"What are you so scared of? They're five of us and one of him!"

"Don't you know what school he's from?"

"What the fuck does that have to do with anything?"

The delinquent stares at his friend, incredulous. He makes his decision. Before his fellows can react, he’s already dashing down the alley to the exit.

“He’s gonna kill us! I-I ain’t sticking around for this. Later!”

>One of the delinquents has left…

“Fucking coward. Once we get out of this he’s dead.” The leader scowls. “As for the rest of these fuckers…”

“The girl is mine.” A third delinquent says, his voice deep.

“Hey, no fair. I already called dibs on them.”

Celeste’s smile is as sweet as honey. It only spurs the delinquents on. You know better. It’s not the ‘thank you so much’ kind of smile, it’s the type where she dearly wishes she could coat her opponents in gasoline and set the resulting mess on fire.

You take another breath. In the past, Shizuka talked about how some of the strongest Persona-users could overwhelm their opponents with only their presence. Her squad leader, Old Man Kenji, did this a lot to Shadows. Maybe you could do something similar.

You switch to Oni. Then you look at the leader of the delinquents square in the eye and unleash your deadliest glare.

Oni, the hideous, rampaging demon from Japanese folklore, roars at the back of your mind. He cries out for bloodshed and destruction. Images of battle-scarred terrain and clashing soldiers pass through your mind. You are happy to oblige the demon, but on one condition. Wounds will not be inflicted on the bodies of your opponents. There is no need for you to bother.

No, instead they will be scars on their minds.

You glare at the leader of the delinquents. A second passes, and you see his posse take a nervous step backwards. It fills you with satisfaction. Anger inside of you, born from seeing the way Chikashi was hurt, cold yet sizzling away, urges you to continue the assault. You do. You stare down the delinquents, throwing out as much of your presence as possible.

It works.

“Hey, what the hell is this…” A delinquent’s hands tremble.

“Don’t be scared! He’s just a kid.” But the second delinquent does not sound sure of himself. “We can take him!”

“I dunno about that! This guy ain’t normal! Look!”

From their perspective, the walls around you must be twisting out of shape. An awful darkness grows. You take a single, calculated step forward. The impact must feel like an earthquake to them.

“Shit! He’s getting closer!”

“Does he want to fight us?”

“Don’t be stupid! He can’t take on all of us!”

“He’s got his friends with him!”

In the corner, Chikashi gapes at you, incredulous.

“Wait a minute!” A fourth delinquent shouts. “I remember! That’s Akumachi-Kirijo’s blazer he’s wearing!”

The reactions from the delinquents are like Anti-Shadow Operatives in the field when the Reaper shows up. They backtrack immediately. One of them nearly falls to the ground in their haste to get away.

“You mean, the school full of monsters? The one that spawned that crazy Judgement girl?”

You lock eyes with each and every one of them. You smile at the way their hearts stop in their chests.

“S-shit! Hiro was right! We can’t do this!”

“I’m getting outta here!”

“Hold on! Don’t leave me behind!”

The delinquents turn tail and run. They bump and shove each other in their haste to rush out the corridor. In less than a few seconds, the number of adversaries has dropped from five to one.

“You…” The leader waves his baseball bat around and screams. “You want some? Come and get some!”

“Leave.” Your quiet voices slices through his frantic shouts like a butterfly knife sliding through moist flesh. “Now.”

He takes another look at you.

He obeys.

“This isn’t over!”

He retreats into the distance and is gone. The alleyway is quiet. Victory is yours.

“That.” Celeste begins, her eyes sparkling. “Was so cool! Takashi-kun, I never knew you could do that!”

“Neither did I, Celeste.” You admit. The stress from the events, which had been forced beneath your skin by the rush of adrenaline, is now surging back to the surface. It presses down on your shoulders and your back. “Shit, that was tiring.”

“That took way too long.” Akikazu grumbles. “Next time, leave the intimidating bullshit to me, okay?”

“Screw that, I was pissed off at them. Still, I don’t think I could’ve done it if I didn’t have—”

“Hey, be careful, Takashi-kun.” Celeste taps you on the shoulder. “Watch what you say around others.”

Oops. Yeah, that’s right. Chikashi is still there. You clamp your mouth shut and walk up to him. He’s still sitting on the ground, his back against the corner. You take another look at the damage. Yep, he’s going to be hurting for a while. Good thing you have a solution to that.

“Celeste, can you heal him?”

“On it!” She steps forward, her palms glowing green. Chikashi, strangely enough, doesn’t react well.

“Don’t touch me!” He shrieks, his eyes full of panic.

“Don’t be like that.” Celeste scolds. “I’m giving you free health care. America doesn’t have anything like that.”

Chikashi protests some more, but relents as Celeste puts her hands on his shoulders and lets the magic flow freely. Maybe it’s the soothing power of Dia that’s calming him down. Or maybe it’s because this is the closest he’s even been with a girl his age. Whatever, as long he’s back on his feet.

“And…done! You’re all healed now.”

You reach forward to give Chikashi a hand up, but he slaps it away.

“The heck?” You grouse.

“I should be saying the same thing!” He shouts, pointing a finger at your chest. “What did you do to them?”

<Azure Scholar> According to these class rosters, Chikashi Yone attended the same class as you for the whole of the last year.

<THE_FIRST> Did he sit next to me
<Azure Scholar> No.

“I made them piss their pants, what else?” You say. “Anyway, are you alright?”

“Why did you get involved?” Chikashi shouts back. “This didn’t have anything to do with you!”

Now you’re just confused. Next to you, Celeste’s cheerful grin drops and is replaced by an angry grimace. “Dude, is this how you thank people?” You say, folding your arms.

“You stuck your nose into my business!” Chikashi is on his feet now and he’s glowering at you. It’s all bark and no bite through; the fearful, half-hearted nature behind it is as clear as a bloodstain on a path of snow. “I didn’t ask you to!”

“So…what was I supposed to do, leave you alone?” You ask. “I don’t get it.”

“What were you doing here, anyway? What is wrong with you?”

“Oh, give it a rest!” Celeste snaps, the temperature around her flaring up. “Takashi-kun just prevented you from getting beat up. You should be more grateful!”

You stick your hand up. “Celeste, chill. Look man, you were getting your ass kicked. I couldn’t just leave you alone like that.”

He sneers at you. “What are you, some sort of warrior of justice?”

“It’s called common fucking decency. Takashi had it, so he saved your sorry ass.” Akikazu scowls from behind you. “Not that I’d expect you to know anything about it. So, that thug said that you had a friend who could pay off your debt. That friend is Takashi, eh? That’s the reason why you’ve been following him around, huh?”

“I…I…”

Akikazu lurches closer, his hands moving out of his pockets. He looms over Chikashi like a giant stomping towards a hill. “Well?”

“Screw you, man!” Chikashi springs forward and pushes past Akikazu. Your blonde friend isn’t the most agile of men and can’t react in time. He can only watch as Chikashi rockets down the alleyway, takes a left turn and vanishes from sight.

“Wait!” You chase after him, but it’s far too late. The boy is nowhere to be seen. He’s vanished into the crowds on the main street, amidst tired factory workers and second-rate vehicles.

“He got away, huh.” Celeste says, not sounding very impressed.

“That guy has a real problem. To hell with him.” Akikazu growls. “Come on Takashi, ain’t no use hanging around here. You don’t want to be here after dark.”

Sighing, you follow your friends back to the train station. Along the way, Celeste grumbles about how rude some people can be towards their saviors. You agree with her, but at the same time you feel a little sorry for Chikashi. Hopefully the delinquents will leave him alone now.

“So…Takashi-kun…about that dinner you promised.”

“Yeah, I did drag you guys all the way here. What do you want?”

“Steakhouse.”

“Ramen store.”

“I said it first.”

“Bullshit, that was me, Tachibana.”

“Scissors paper rock decides the winner.”

“Bring it!”

>>Celeste and Akikazu: Throw down.

“It’s a draw!” You exclaim. “We’re all going to the nearest burger place. There’s one at the station, so let’s go!”

“Not fair, Takashi-kun!”

Never mind that he's a wimp, I doubt the game would go so far as to recruit someone truly helpless and unable to defend himself. That's to say nothing of Chikashi being exceptionally sketchy and probably flipping his shit and telling everyone if he finds out Takashi is the Fool. That would make Chikashi a triple liability.

Chikashi is one of the invaders in the Forlorn Abyss.
>>
>>45872131
In the mechanics pastebin, it says that dead social links can neither advance nor go back, so this does make sense, if her friends saw her actions against north korea, the links would probably go back, so by killing them, they can no longer reverse.
>>
>>45872131
Pretty sure her friends got bad ended so she had to mercy kill them which made something inside her break leading to every time she sleeps she is killing them over and over again. Because of this she avoids sleep as much as she can and slowly becomes unhinged as she learns how to stay awake even longer leading to even worse sleep deprivation effects and hallucinates killing her friends all over again, even waking she has nightmares. This explains why she acted so "off".

At least that is how I would write it.
>>
>>45872226
The abyss seems like the sort of place that would use that as a end goal for power. 'Too weak to fight the enemy? Need a boost? All you need to do is KILL YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVERS.Anything goes in the Abyss!'

<THE_FIRST> And that’s basically what happened
<THE_FIRST> What do you think
<Azure Scholar> Had that boy been a mercenary such as I, he would’ve been ostracized from the Nocturne City BBS for his actions. A mercenary who is ungrateful towards healing is a mercenary that does not deserve to be worked with.
<chocolat_orange> i know, right? what’s his deal? i’d say that i shouldn’t have healed him, but i’m too nice of a person for that.
<Azure Scholar> So, what do you plan to do? You said that the reason you followed him is because you were acting on the suspicion that he could possibly be a future AETHER Player.
<THE_FIRST> Well for some reason he’s pissed at me
<THE_FIRST> Eh
<THE_FIRST> I don’t know
<THE_FIRST> If he is a Player then we’re going to have some real awkward conversations at the safehouse
<chocolat_orange> i say forget about him. we all have much better things to do with our time.
<Azure Scholar> Or you could investigate him further. His school is in your district, so you may run into him again.
<Azure Scholar> It’s your decision. On that note, the end of May is approaching and the notification hasn’t unscrambled itself.
<THE_FIRST> Yeah I got it
<THE_FIRST> Be prepared everyone
<THE_FIRST> A storm is coming

[8:15 am, 28-May-2129]

Sleep’s gentle embrace does wonders for your stress. By the next morning, you’re feeling bright and ready to spend another day at the academy. The morning ritual proceeds as normal and you walk to the station with a full stomach and a clear head. You barely think about what happened yesterday, as there’s nothing you can really do about the past. Instead, your thoughts are full of upcoming classes, Takauji’s silly jokes and what candies are stuffed into the school vending machines.
>>
At the school gate, you run into someone whom you haven’t talked to in a while. Well, that’s not fair. She sits next to you in class. You just haven’t had a proper conversation together for at least a week.

“Yo, Aria!” She flinches at your greeting. Then relief washes over her as she realizes who’s talking to her, “What’s up?”

“Takashi…” Her voice hasn’t grown any less soft. “Morning. How…are you?”

“I’m good.” You reply. “I actually finished all of my homework and assignments last night. It only gave me a one day window to relax, but it’s great.”

“That’s…good.”

The two of you walk to class together, chatting on the way. Or rather, you talk to Aria and she gives you answers consisting of a few words.

“Takashi…” She speaks up when you’re both on the staircase leading to the upper floors of the classroom block. “Finished.”

“Pardon?” You say, your hand on the metal railing.

“Last night, I….” Her body tenses up as she struggles with her tongue to form the words in her mouth. “I finished my art.”

“You did? That’s great!” You exclaim. “Can I see it?”

“I…well…”

“Uh, if you don’t feel comfortable you don’t have to.” You backpedal. “It’s your choice.”

“No!” Aria cries, then wilts as her face turns red with embarrassment. “Promise. We made one. You can see it. This afternoon, unless you’re busy…”

She looks up at you. “Are you?”

“Sure, I’d be happy to.” You grin. “I did say so, after all.”

“O-okay!” Aria says, looking surprised but happy. Did she not expect you to say yes? “On the school roof. Meet there…”

The bell rings and the two of you hasten your pace. You sit down in your seat and take out your textbooks. Veleis-sensei enters the classroom with a clipboard in hand. Homeroom starts. It finishes and the regular classes begin. Information Technology, Physical Education, Politics/Economics with a healthy finish with your worst subject: English.

It’s just another regular school day and you’re perfectly fine with that.

[4:00 pm, 28-May-2129 (SATURDAY)]

“Hey Takashi, want to walk home together?”

“Sorry Takauji, I’ve got stuff to do.” You say, shoving your books into your bag. God, English had been a real pain. The teacher asked you to stand up and speak out an answer to a question on the whiteboard. You imagined Celeste laughing her ass off at your terrible pronunciation. She once linked you video of Japanese students trying to say a few simple words in English. Somehow, their accents combined with their speech patterns had transformed their lines into something completely else, which was apparently very hilarious. Your cheeks had been burning like hot plates when you sat back down.

Anyway, it’s all in the past.

“Studying in the library? I can relate. Kanade pesters me to study all the time.”

“With good reason!” The class president shouts from the front of the classroom.

“Nah, something else.” You say. “Again, sorry.”

“It’s cool. Whatever it is, good luck with it. See you on Monday!”

“Yeah, you too.”

You wave Takauji goodbye and head for the school roof. You open the door and step out into the sunshine. The rays of light shining down fill you with a pleasant warmth that makes you smile. Aria is in a shady spot, looking down at her tablet. Concern is etched on her fragile features like carvings on an ancient wall. She opens something, then closes it straight away. The process repeats itself several times.

“Hey.” You say, sitting down next to her. “Nice day out.”

“Yes…”

“Are you ready?” You ask.

She nods, perhaps a little more quick than necessary. “Here you go.”

She shoves the tablet over. A gallery application is open, showing Aria’s art. You eagerly take it. Then you notice that Aria has her head turned away.

“What are you doing?” You ask.

“Hurry up. Look at it.” She mumbles. “Embarrassing.”

“Okay…” You say, following the command. “Seriously though, you shouldn’t be ashamed of your art. So far, it’s been really good.”

“Hurry up.” She repeats herself. “Do it.”

Deciding not to comment, you take look at the art. This time, Aria has gone for a more abstract approach. The picture is of a young girl in a sailor uniform sitting underneath a two-way slide in a playground. A brown cat rests next to her and both are staring up at the big moon in the night sky. Every part of the drawing, the flowers, the apartment buildings, the chimney in the distance and the cute little swing set, has been designed to fit inside a small circle. It’s an unusual approach, you think, but nevertheless it’s great. The colors match nicely, the outlines has been drawn well and the proportions of the girl aren’t out of place.

The picture is of high quality, just what you’ve come to expect from the artist…

You look up, finished.

“…what do you think?” Aria says, looking nervous.

Really dumbass prediction-cum-fanfiction formulated by someone who hasn't so much as seen the title screen of a Persona game:
Chikashi gets angry/depressed at how awesome we are and how weak he is, and starts Googling variations on the phrase "how to get a super-strong Persona".
A billion and three useless remedies (fasting for a week, praying to the Wild Card, "praying" to the Wild Card, etc.) later, he stumbles upon a simple ritual on a shady-looking site - that actually works!
He gets his own prodigiously strong Persona (of the Tower Arcana, of course), and all is well in his world.
However, after a few weeks of beating up his bullies, rising the echelons of snobbery, and getting drafted into Aether, he starts getting sicker.
No healing spells can help him, and nobody knows what's going on until, through a deus ex machina (Read: the Twins blending exposition with insult seamlessly), it's revealed that, as nobody could have ever predicted, the easy way to get power has horrible and disproportionate consquences.
The ritual didn't strengthen his soul enough to manifest a persona of his own, it got the attention of a predatory rogue Persona (called a Patron or something) that survives by latching on to poor sap's soul and taking a chunk off it whenever it's summoned.
He then has to balance his desire for power (and his reputation) with his desire to not get his soul eaten by basically a demon.

It represents how the child feels more at home at an empty playground than she does at home, and how in a post industrial society drags the children out of their homes to slave in factories so they can earn just enough of a fraction of their labors to live in a cramped box which they do not consider to be a home by any virtue other than being all that they have.

This is just off the top of my head.
>>
>>45873881
FINDS A WAY
>>
>>45873846
Something similar to that can happen, yeah. Some of the villains in Persona 3 were artificial Persona-users whose powers were given to them in experiments by the Kirijo Group (you know, the people who fund our school). They had some of the life drained out of them every time they used their abilities, and there was a risk of their Personas going rogue and trying to kill them if they weren't careful. So yeah, it's entirely possible that that could happen. Not likely, I imagine Kirijo isn't doing those experiments anymore now that they can just hire Persona-users instead of having to make them. But hey, someone else could have taken up their old research.
>>
>>45873939
Well, refinement and improvement could happen for the product. Sell it as a means to bolster shadow hunters, but also as a means to simply make more persona users. With the way shadows are, more users in general would be good. Especially if you can repeatedly make high end users with Judgement based personas.
>>
>>45873902
>post industrial society drags the children out of their homes to slave in factories

“It’s good.” You comment, smiling at her. “What’s the symbolism behind it?”

Aria doesn’t say anything.

“Something about isolation? That’s the impression I get, because of the small girl in a big world which is actually tiny and cramped. I don’t take art as an elective, so I really have no idea…” You smile again, this time more awkwardly.

“…”

“Mind if I show this to everyone else? I’m sure Celeste or Akikazu would be happy to see it.”

The tablet is suddenly yanked out of your hands. You look at Aria. She's cradling it against her chest, piercing your heart with her wide blue eyes.

“Something wrong?” You say, now befuddled.

“Takashi…” Aria utters your name in a still, almost deathly voice. “You don’t know?”

“Know what?” You ask. “It’s a playground. It looks cool.”

“…” She stares at the ground.

“Aria?” You press again.

“You don’t know…” She breathes, eyes wide. “You don’t know…”

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing!” She screeches and you are taken aback.

Then she swallows and rubs her hand across her eyes. It's now wet. She tries to give you a smile, but fails. Instead, she turns so that her back is facing you.

“Sorry, Takashi.” She says, voice noticeably cracking. Her shoulders are shaking. “I’m sorry. For yelling. My bad. Thank you for coming today…”

Then she runs off. She disappears down the stairs before you can do anything. You dash off after her. You burst out into the front courtyard and survey the area. But it is for naught. Aria is gone.

And you don't understand what you have done wrong.

Probably takes even less, now, without even his servant Igor in the Velvet Room.

Honestly, never ask for the symbolism behind art. For every piece of art that is more interesting when you know the background behind it, there are a thousand pieces where the things you try to figure out yourself are going to be way more in-depth than anything the artist was actually trying to imply. I mean, look at the Mona Lisa and all the discussion about that, when the painting itself was literally just an unfinished practice piece.

“Takashi, did you just make a girl cry?”

You look over your shoulder to see Kanami striding across the courtyard, book bag in her hand. Her lips are curled into a look of distaste. Her blood red eyes are like laser shots drilling burning holes into your chest.

“Kanami, you haven’t you gone home?”

“Archery club.” She replies. “I saw the girl you sit next to run past. Why did you make her cry?”

“Why do you assume I did it?”

“Because you’re the only one she talks to.” Kanami says. “Fess up. What did you do?”

You sigh and explain the situation to her. She listens in silence and understands.

“I see. In that case, I think you were unintentionally offending her. You shouldn’t be blamed. The problem may lie on Wittelsbach’s end.” She says. “Of course, we haven’t heard Aria’s side of the story yet.”

“Yeah, that might be a little hard.”

“I can imagine.”

“I still don’t get what I did wrong.”

“You’ll probably know when you apologize to her.” Kanami says, “…you are going to apologize to her, right?’

“No shit. Who do you take me for?”

“That’s good.” She gives you a pat on the back. “I wish you luck. See you on Monday. I have to go to Takuaji’s place.”

“Treat him gently okay?” You say, wary.

“I am his fiancée.” She states. “You have no need to worry.”

That’s exactly why you’re worried, but you refrain from saying so. You bid her farewell and head towards the train station. On the way, you keep replaying the scene on the rooftop in your mind. You dissect it from every angle, but you are unable to discern where exactly you sent everything to hell in a handbasket. Girls. Even after living in a family full of powerful women, you still don’t understand them. Or maybe it’s just Aria in particular?

You step off at the District 6 platform and leave the station. You round a corner on the street and your forehead slams right into an unknown person. The two of you stumble backward and you rub your forehead in agony. Why didn’t you keep Oni equipped? Oh, right, paranoia about foreign Spotters.

“Geez, watch you’re going!” the person yells.

"Sorry..." You mutter, then freeze.

Wait a minute.

You recognize that voice. That reedy, almost whiny tone. It had been shouting at you yesterday.

You look up to confirm your suspicions. Your mouth tightens.

Thread will end here. Thanks to all who participated. Today was fun as usual. I'm looking forward to what's happening next too. Big thanks to Sir Yellingbird for writing his smut. I eagerly await the next instalment.

As for what's Aria's deal is, you'll have to wait and see. Takashi can't see things from her perspective, yet.

It's worth noting that everyone who has "died" and joined the game was killed in an accident (or a murder in Fumika's case).

Its autism, but different than Fumika's.

Consider the weight of that. Aria joins the game and ends up in Takashi's company because SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY, his actions convinced her to kill herself.

You don't understand, man. In Japan, every truck on the roads has their brakes cut, and they're always flying down the road doing at least 40. No trucker ever sees anything coming.

Takashi has gone through every trope in the book, including the "horrific traffic accident (that robbed his memory)."
>>
>>45875334

>>

>>
So yeah, this thread kinda proves Aria is shit. Like truly autistic. Gonna be a great addition to the team, that one.
>>
>>45875354
>No trucker ever sees anything coming.
That, or Japanese pedestrians are infamously oblivious and never (and I mean NEVER) look both ways while crossing the street.
>>
>>45875284
That's fucking obvious and doesn't answer my question. What did the art mean and why did she expect us to interpret it in a very specific and personal way? She's freaking out because she was trying to use the art to communicate something to us but we didn't get it.
>>
>>45875386
I can se it now, Celeste is about to cross the road, not looking where she's going. Takashi's genre savvy kicks in and yanks her out of the way of the truck. He ends up on top of her, and things go from there.

But that is wrong, she is upset because we tried to show it to people who are strangers to her.
>>
>>45875380
Fumika is autistic but a great addition. That said I agree that I don't see how Aria and her type of autism will contribute to the team.
>>
>>45875355
Also, you lied. The Yellingbird promised double porn if we posted Tweet tweet. We were lied to twice. Not only did we not get 6 with part 5, part 5 was also cut down too if we go by what he said.

All in all, LIAR!
>>

>>
>>45875442
>I don't understand what autism is, despite having it.
>>

Nah, her social problems and her self esteem issues play off each other, but are not the same.

But if anyone seriously treats this as Takashi's fault, it would certainly be bullshit.
>>
>>45875454
Half American, and Half Japanese. She acclimated too fast for her own good.
>>
>>45875284
>>45875392
Eh, she started losing it before we even mentioned showing it to anyone else. I think we were maybe supposed to recognize something about it or something. Maybe she's someone we knew as a child but don't remember because of amnesia, and she drew the place the two of them would play together as children to try to get him to remember. Maybe she's from the same weird parallel universe that the guy who claims he used to sit next to us is from.

I'm not saying she doesn't have a good reason for freaking out, but Twilight literally said we don't know the actual reason yet so I doubt it's that simple.

You didn't read the thread, did you. He's not from a different universe. He's from THIS universe, and he just wanted to buddy up to us to mooch some cash off us. So he lied about sitting next to us. Occam's Razor.

>>
>>45875736
The only reason it was botched was because he gave your intelligence way too much credit. It was absolutely obvious that, basically the exact episode after introducing the companion system, the weird creature that doesn't match all the other shit we're fighting against, who is coincidentally fighting all the other shit we're fighting against, was not going to be a bad guy unless we try to fight it, after he very implicitly told us fighting it was a bad idea. I don't think he botched that at all, it was literally three dumb as fuck decisions right in a row even after what was essentially TT tossing a "are you sure about this" your way and you didn't listen

>>45875718
I don't want to say alternate dimensions are confirmed but there seems to be some sort of similar aspect when you look at the whole invaders/invading other AETHER sessions thing, unless there are multiple AETHERS within our one dimension
>>
>>45875794
But people loved the original Strike Witches Quest because it sandbags the unrepentant fanservice of the original series and purposely put attention on the men who fly alongside the witches and makes them important before they're revealed to have their own form of magic in order to explain their incomprehensible prowess.
>>

>>
>>45875807
In my opinion, I did botch that encounter against 114 because I had not given any indication that 114 could be reasoned with. And why could it be? It was gigantic monster who had just murdered an entire troop of robots. Also, 114 shouldn't have KO'ed the entire team at once.
>>
>>45875839
>114 shouldn't have KO'ed the entire team at once.

This is where you really fucked up, since it gave everyone the impression that they were going to die anyway so nothing they did would have mattered.
>>
>>45875856
Yeah. Every time I read over that part I feel like every nerve in my body is about to split apart from the pure cringe.

Maybe it would've been better if 114 had been weakened with cancer or something. I dunno.
>>
>>45875720
>Games have to actually have consequences

But the "save scum" mechanic he revealed at that point undermines any consequences that might emerge organically from the story for a cheap, game-y system of second chances.

>>45875712

>>45875839
Still don't think it was botched, especially considering the number of people who voted to murder 114 last thread when the thing could barely move. I mean shit, I said the exact same thing last thread about it obviously being intended as a companion as soon as you said we were taking the right path and I got shitstormed with replies of "NUH UH TT NEVER SAID IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPANION"

>>45875880
Or just not make it so stupid strong in the first place. I get it: you liked RoR and thought Acrid was a best. No reason you had to transfer the fan wank for him into how you portrayed him in quest. It would have been pretty ballsy if you had made him beatable with Fumika just not getting a companion if the players took him down before recruiting her.
