Your name is Kane Gerric - a Miralukan lad with an untapped power, a pair of blaster pistols and a very dangerous goal.

Fifteen years ago, you were born into dire poverty.
Fifteen minutes ago, you savaged two street thugs.
Five minutes ago, you decided to rob the richest man on the planet.

archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/45867427/

The setting sun cast a rosy glow over the grey and dusty streets. The silvered facade of Jeergan Kal's tower was bloodied, the breathtaking structure taking on a malevolent glare.

"This is the worst idea ever." Your companion whined. "Remind me why I'm here again."

"Didn't you say you were coming along to keep me out of trouble? Besides, I've got a real good feeling about this plan. It feels like Bogan is with us on this one."

"Bogan? Isn't that your god of, like, evil or something?" The Twi'lek chides. "Besides, you don't even HAVE a plan. A death-wish maybe, but I'm waiting for something that even SOUNDS like a plan."

"I've got a blaster. Maybe we can just forgo the plan?" She glares. "Ow, that was a joke, alright? Watch where you're swinging those arms, robo-girl!"

So I'm starting to think a little more about how I want to handle combat and skill checks. I'm thinking that I'd like to run some sort of system with multiple dice. Would you guys be okay with a system that uses best of, average of and worst of depending on situation?

I'd also like to keep increasing the size and number of force dice you can roll when you get stronger (you've currently got 1d10)

How does that sound?

>>"Nobody on this rock owns a speeder, right?"
stupid idea's ahoy!

I'll be closing in 5 minutes.

>>45887423
Normal ways probably best to get new people in
>>
>>45887423
like shinigami savant quest? they roll 3d10. 1 die on/above the DC is a bare success, 2 dice on/above is a success, 3 dice on/above is a Crit success.
>>
>>45887462
That's definitely an interesting way to handle things, and seems less swingy than my previous idea.

How does it model the character getting stronger? Lower DCs for things they're easily capable of?

Archived the last thread for you, OP.
>>
>>45887609
pretty much. it's best of 3 with 3d10. right now for sensing emotions i'm guessing our DC would be like a 2 or something, because we've been doing it all our lives. or something like sight with a DC of 1.
>>
>>45887609
With 3d10 there seem to be two general ways to indicate that the MC is getting stronger.
>Give the MC bonuses to things they're good at, but don't lower the DCs.
>Don't give the MC bonuses, but lower the DCs and/or don't make them roll for easy stuff.

>>45887609
are you just writing or what Qm.

>>45887973
I am. Sorry for not saying, but it seemed unanimous.

>>45887995
ok also if i was you i'd do what BQ does in regards to bonuses

"Nobody on this rock owns a speeder, right?"

A brilliant flash of inspiration strikes you.

"What's that got to do with anything?" Choni retorts. "You've got to own half the planet before you can afford to fly. What about it?"

"Nobody has a speeder. The security at the top of the building will be weaker than a newborn Neimoidian. There's balconies and landing platforms and all sorts up there, we could get in easy!"

"Easily, if you forget the fact that we don't have a speeder, or any means of getting one. What's your suggestion, smart guy? We could break into another billionaires tower, steal HIS speeder, then rob this guy. Or we could save up for the next 50 years and buy one? Or, we could just grow a pair of wings and float up there. That is your next suggestion, right?"

"Yeah, we could do those." You make a show of rubbing your chin, stroking the magnificent beard you can't manage to grow quite yet. "Or we could hitch a ride on that."

A huge holo-display balloon sweeps over your heads, forcing the pair of you to drop to the ground. On the various screens embedded in the surface, a swollen looking human obsequiously parades a vacuous, messy haired teenager. The fat guy is Jeergan Kal, so the other one must be his son. Or his lover. On top of the balloon sits a nest for a live announcer to call out sports results, or read the latest news.

"Yep. It's got controls that set the height it floats at, right? All I need is for you to mess with those a bit, we'll hang on tight, and the winds should carry us where we need to go."

"The winds are going to carry us? What if they just blow us out to sea, or off a cliff or something?"

"Where's your sense of adventure?" You start running and jump onto the balloon, clambering up it's squishy body before sitting snug in the nest. "This'll be fun!"

>Roll 3 D 10. DC is secret ;)
>>

Yeah, BQ has pretty good dice. Lots of shitposting though.

"Wait up!" Choni pants as you tug her on-board. "Whoah, this is weird!"

The balloon gently rocks from side to side as it gets buffeted by the winds. Slowly but surely, you transcribe a course around the base of the spire.

"How did you know this was going to happen?" She grins for the first time today, her mood cleared by the soaring feeling in both your stomachs. "Are you some sort of secret genius?"

You shake your head. "No, it's simpler than that. The winds all converge on Kal Tower, so they form a cyclone just above the top of the spire. It's amazing in a sand storm. All the dust and sand just hangs in the air, like it's dancing. It's beautiful."

Choni giggles. "It's official. I'm less observant than a blind guy." She braces herself against the rail. "Okay, let's take this thing up."

A tap of the console sees the balloon drift higher in the sky. "Don't look down!" Of course, you have no choice but to look down. Technically, you're looking everywhere.

The soaring feeling you felt before is quickly replaced by a heavy weight. "The town looks so small from up here! And that sunset! It's gorgeous." That's it, Choni is NOT helping.

There's no way you can be calm in this situation. You're sat on top of a sack of gas, slowly and surely drifting to a terrible fate. Why did you ever think this was a good idea?

"This is fun, but it's seriously slow. What happens if I push this?"

Adrenaline suddenly shoots through your body as the balloon lurches to one side. There's an ominous whistle as the ballast drops away.

Suddenly you start ascending at a breakneck pace. The windows of the spire begin to rush past as you fly towards your doom.

>Write-in
>>
>>45888912
Are we close enough to jump to the spire? If so do it. Take our dumbass twilek friend with us.
>>
>>45888912

Try to pull closer to the tower the way we pulled the blasters to us. Don't actually try to arrest our upward momentum as that would probably be too much for us at the moment
>>
>>45888912
I have no idea. Panic?
>>
>>45889044
You're currently about ten feet from the main body of the spire, still twisting in the wind. You haven't reached the top just yet.
The vortex is centered exactly over the top of the spire, so you'll get pulled closer to the center the longer you wait. Of course, you'll might end up too high to land if you wait too long.
The controls are still functioning, but the balloon has no inbuilt method of propulsion.

I'll give you guys 20 minutes to talk it out and spitball a plan.
>>
>>45888912
Stay calm and wait for the right moment to jump on the top of the spire after regaining control of the balloon
>>
>>45889233
So we can only increase the height with the controls? I don't know enough about it to make a good plan
>>
>>45889233

Force Jump? I know we don't know the technique but if we get desperate enough that's the only fix I can think of
>>
>>45889408
The controls were designed for sensitive adjustments to the height. They can adjust the buoyancy of the gas. However, the ballast was responsible for keeping the balloon tethered and hugely offset the bouyancy.

You could try venting some of the gas, or just try to slow the thing down enough to jump like some of the Anons have said.
>>
is there a reason we can't just wait until we're over the spire and get down from there?
>>
>>45889640

No guarantee that it won't get to far above the tower, I would say try to vent some gas to slow it down and then force jump when we get the chance
>>
Okay, that's it.
>>
"THIS ISN'T MY FAULT, THIS ISN'T MY FAULT, THIS ISN'T MY FAULT, I DON'T WANT TO DIE, I DON'T WANT TO DIE, I DON'T WANT TO DIE"

You spin around the edge of the tower once more. The wind whips at you, tearing away your blindfold. Your naked eyesockets are exposed to the world, but at the moment you have worse problems.

"CHONI." You grit your teeth. "SHUT UP."

Her screaming turns to panicked sobs. Much better.

You're so close to the towers edge now. It almost feels like you can reach out and touch it.

"Okay, I've got a plan, but it's not a very good one." The words are falling from your mouth now, as you try to rush together your thoughts.

"On the next pass, we'll skim over the top of the tower. I need you to trust me, because we're going to jump. Can you do that?" She's going to need to do that.

You clear the top of the tower, the polished surface of the landing pad glinting up at you, daring you to jump. The balloon speeds across in a matter of seconds. Another pass. "Get ready to jump." She shakes her head, eyes closed. "We're going to have to jump now." No luck. It looks like you'll have to drag her out. You grab her hand. You hope this works.

The platform rushes up to meet you. You take a deep breath, tug on the girl and throw yourself off the nest.

You're speeding forwards. Ten feet, five, three. Then you begin to plummet. You're not going to make it. Suddenly, you feel pressure against your soles, pushing up against you. The distance closes in an instant. You hit the ground hard, the impact knocking whatever breath you still had completely out of you. You skid, the friction from the platform tearing up your skin. You come to a standstill. Then it strikes you - there's nothing in your hand.

Panic takes hold and you frantically glance about. Slumped on the floor, you see another figure - pale blue and mottled with dirt. Her eyelids flicker open. "Kane? Are we still alive?"

Overhead, the balloon drifts away - mockingly dancing in the breeze.

For the moment, although that'll change if we get caught. Let's move, quickly and quietly. Also for the love of the gods do not poke things anymore.

>>45890179
Yes, sorry if it wasn't clear. The field is open. I'm just happy to be finally done with that fucking balloon
>>
>>45890141
Look around for a roof access door

It's a landing pad so you're all set in that regard. I'm just interested to see what your character takes away from that whole experience.

Looks like it, now on to the really dangerous part
>>
Closing and writing. This'll be the last update for today anyway.

So it looks like I'll have to find a better time slot to run in, since I'm only getting a few hours at a time with this one, and the plot isn't progressing as fast as I thought it would.

Next thread will wrap up this whole story arc, then I'm thinking I'll throw a timeskip to the point where we seriously train in the force. I have a twitter now (https://twitter.com/DSA_QM), so I'll announce the next one on there and in the /swg/ thread as well.

What do you guys prefer? Regular threads that don't last long, or fewer but with a longer run-time?
>>
>>45890531
either or really
>>
>>45890531
Longer threads are preferable
>>
>>45890531

I vote longer
>>
>>45890531
i don't really care but longer is probably better.
>>
"It's okay, we're still alive." You throw your arms around your friend. "Somehow, we're both still alive."

"I was so scared. So, so scared." She hugs you back, the pressure threatening to crack your ribs. She rests her head against your shoulder, the tears soaking into the fabric of your shirt. The hug soaks right through you, but fills you with warmth. Somehow, despite everything you've managed to make it here - to the peak of the world. Everything you've ever known lies below you, and your everyday worries seem trivial in the face of the simple facts. You're alive and you have a companion to share in your joy. With the altitude and the isolation, you could almost believe that you're the only two people in the world. Nothing else matters - the danger of getting caught, the seriousness of your 'mission'.

"Promise me we'll never do that again." Choni sobs into your shoulder, half tears, half laughter.

"That's easy." You begin to laugh. "If I never see one of those things again, I'll be a happy man. But you have to promise me something too..."

"Hmm?" the Twi'lek pulls back, dabbing her eyes on her sleeve. "Promise me you won't touch ANYTHING without telling me first."

"Then I guess it's a promise." She cracks a goofy smile, like you used to growing up together.. "It looks like we can't go back the way we came." Why would you want to? "We're really seeing this through, huh?"

The reality hits you. You're stuck on a rooftop with nothing but sky above. Behind the access door lies five hundred floors of danger below. At least you're not alone.

>to be continued

Okay, that's me done for tonight. I can stick about for 15 minutes if anyone has any questions.

If not, have a good day/night and I'll see you next time
>>
>>45891078

How easy is it going to be to die here?
>>
>>45891184
Really that depends on how reckless you plan on being. Kal is a greedy asshole, but he lacks the stomach for violence. Money is his weapon, he's the classic venal coward.

That said, there's no guarantee that his security system is 100% non-lethal, and I know that you guys like to stir up trouble, so I may just throw in a few scenarios that might tempt you to risk your lives ;^)
