"Jaaaaames! JAAAAAMES! Where are you??"
The smaller red-headed girl Is running around beneath you shouting like her life depends on it. The sun shining through the leaves gets in your eyes and suddenly you're blinking tears.
"James...?"
Ok, that one actually sounds scared.
She starts to shake, and you can almost hear the tears forming.
"Halia, I'm up here."
"JAAAMES!" And suddenly she's beaming again, her gap-toothed smile the picture of childish innocence as she hops and leaps to try and reach the lowest branches of the tree you've inverted yourself in.
"Try and catch me Halie!" And you're off like a shot. Dad said to keep her entertained. No more trouble, no more tears. The little elven girl that latched onto you like a limpet is charging along the ground screaming like a banshee. Huh, banshee. Banshee's Wail? nah. Still not good enough for a captain of your caliber
"JAMES LOOK OUT!"
"huh?..." Suddenly there's no branch under you, and the sky is somewhere below you and oh no.
"Uuuuuuugh"
Where did that ground come from?
And why is there a little girl inches away from your face? Ah shit not the tears.
................................................................................................................................................

"...atever about his other injuries, there's no way he's alive. Half his heart is missing."
"Dr.Marches, can you please explain to me why my brother was running around in the treetops then? I've allready shown you that there's no way that spear went into his heart. So when did he lose half of his most vital organ?

"Well I was wandering back through the forest, because I was coming home, and I was so close to Harrfell that I decided that I didn't need to keep my sword out. Which is the exact reason that I was unarmed and sort of surprised when a mad man rammed a knife into my chest"
"You let a mentally ill person sneak up on you?" Your sisters skepticism hurts, more than the the sharp blow just dealt to your ego.
"He had a knife! and the town guard should be keeping bandits out of the woods! Anyway, a few hours later I woke up in a pot, took the knife out of my chest...
"You removed an obstruction from a wound? a wound that was almost definitely in your heart?" Doc Marches' eyebrows raise almost as high as your sisters.
"Shut up! I had been stabbed! I obviously wasn't thinking straight! *Anyway, as I was saying, I took the knife out of my chest and stabbed him to death. Of course, then I had to go track down the assholes who he gave my clothes to, but before that, I had to get clothes on, so I took his."
"Really brother? I thought you had run away to the circus!"

"And started acting like a tom-fool. All the more reason to think you were in the circus brother.
"I *was* not!"
"Well either way, Mr. Mantell, your story is done. Until there's a healer that can put hearts back together, I'm not letting you out of bed."
"*Doooooc*" both you and your sister let out an exasperated whine.
> I'm fine! I'll be up and about in a moment see? and I don't want to spend any more time in these clothes than I have to.

No. You can feel the tears running down your cheeks. You feel you adopted sister bump into you as she rests her head on your shoulders and his words come rushing back to you.
"She's lost her mum, see? just like you. Come now Jamie boy, no more tears, you need to be strong for her. She's only five. Can't have her seeing a big seven year old crying too."
"but dad! It's... It's not fair! She's my friend! Why'd she have to lose her mum! She doesn't have a dad like you!"
"Come on now Jamie, go play with her. Remember, no more tears, I don't want to see her crying when she gets back"
No more tears. "No more tears Lil' sis. Jamie's here now. We're going to be pirates see. Pirates like we were always going to be. Captain Halia! Come on sis, I was joking about the llama part"
"James, weren't you going to be the captain?"
"I already was sis, it's your turn now."
" 'K James..." She sniffles. "James? What's a Llama"
"It's like a very hairy horse with a long neck"
She stifles a sad giggle. "We killed them already. Or rather, I killed two and you crushed one under your fat ass."
"oh, were you looking at it again?"
"JAMES!" her horrified look is better than tears at any rate "I would never!"
She calms down and looks at you, dead in the eyes.

"Their boss is still in town, he took over Mary Polloks office when he killed her. We're going to kill him. And knowing you, you already have a plan."

Trait active - Swashbuckling
What dID YOU JUST SAY ABOUT MY SISTER
Trait found Brother Protector 2/3
To the poor unfortunate bandit outside, it must have seemed as if the world came toppling down around his head.
To you, the door that you remember Doc Marches never really fixing fell wonderfully forward when you shoulder charged it, and smacked into the head of the idiot behind it. At which point the boards decide to bounce off to the side, giving you perfect clearance to drive your knife right between his ribs, and your sisters flicked blade into his throat.
"Never mind, definitely my brother. Gods above, your temper's only gotten worse."
"shut up. Let's just get over to the house."
"Right."
The town has in fact gotten bigger. The Doctor's house is on main street, and it seems that you were out for at least a day, because you can see the moon just peaking up from behind the trees to the east, and no ones around. Other than corpse boy, who Dr. Marches is dragging into his house and giving you the thumbs up. If you remember correctly, your house is near the wall at the other side of town, near the forest edge.

Halia starts to run into the back alleys before you tap her on the shoulder from the roof of Dr. Marches.

"James, Get down from there!"

"Halie" you imitate her annoyed voice "get up here if you don't want to run into the five idiots 2 streets away"

"oh"

You bounce and sneak your way across the rooftops, and crouch behind balcony walls when you hear people moving. In total, there seems to only be 8 or nine bandits patrolling, a good sign, as it means that there can't be that many more guarding their boss. It's not long before You come to your old house. Low to the ground and slightly crooked, you can see where you broke the latch on your window so the da... Dad couldn't stop you sneaking out. You can also see where you did the same on Halie's window once she found out you were sneaking off to the tavern and wanted in on the fun. Of course you could always just walk in the front door. It is your house after all.
