It had only been a day or so since the Subjugator was sank. But even you were getting some anxiety over it. The Force Harvester was said to be indestructible. Admiral Reike himself wasn’t giving up on it even though it had to be miles under water where the pressure would destroy any AT-AT swimmer. As you walked from your room to the common room, you had to quietly put down those niggling feelings of dread and try and keep a brave face for the crew. They did the same for you, you’re sure.

But as you step into the common room, you see that all crewmembers, droids included, except Sparks, were inside of it. Misri and Vikker were playing dejarik, Kuvasz was kicking back reading the holo news, and the astromechs and B1s were busy playing sabacc. Oh great, unproductivity, lovely. “Misri,” you call. She looks up from the board. “Why aren’t you in the machine shop? Shouldn’t you be working?”

“I would be, but Whisper asked if we had those old droid husks to practice with, so I set them up for her and uh…” She tilts her head. “Quite frankly, she scares me so I let her have the shop to herself.”

Vikker looks back at you. “Very wise of you to include an emotionally unbalanced teenage echani cyborg as part of our crew, Rhys. I’m sure she won’t kill one of us in a blind rage.”

“Hey, she seemed fine the first week we had her,” you say. Truth be told, she hasn’t been fine since you encountered the Echani again. It seems like her emotions have boiled over somewhat. You look over at Kuvasz. “And what about you? Why aren’t you doing anything about it?”

“Because if I did, you’d be cleaning up a lot of blood and body parts,” he explains bluntly. Okay, that’s fair.

Fine. You’re the Captain of this ship, you’ll sort it out yourself.

You step into the machine shop. “Whisper, Misri says you-“

You’re stopped by the head of a B1bis smashing right into the wall next to you. Whisper is currently busy beating up and tearing apart the practice droid husks set out for her. She snaps their arms apart, she tears out the wiring and lashes their hulls with the sparking circuity. And judging by the state of the machine shop, she has been at this for a while.

She snaps the neck of one of the commando droid bodies, then hauls it over to the work bench and repeatedly smashes it into the hard metal. When she pulls back to examine it, all that remains is frayed out circuitry, leaking oil, and what’s left of a photoreceptor. She then pulls off the head and throws it to the ground, making it spark and explode against the floor.

“… you realize you’re cleaning all this up, right?” you say.

She looks over at you, then snarls, huffing angrily. “I apologize.” She kicks one of the heads into the wall. “I am just a little mad.”

“Little is an understatement,” you say as you walk closer to her. “You know, I’ve tried telling you to calm down.”

“Maybe.” She says quietly, holding an accusing finger to you. “It is difficult for me to calm down when I am angry. Have you considered that, Captain?” Oh, cheeky now, are we? “I am sorry if I seem condescending but that is the truth. As the Echani before me and before them have dictated, we must keep our emotions in balance. Otherwise, there is nothing separating our fighting from that of savage brutes who use combat to steal, murder, and rape the innocent.”
>>
>>45923214
[3/3]

You cross your arms. “You’re still mad though, aren’t you?”

“You would probably be mad too if you had to confront the sisters you grew up with after they threw you away after they destroy what confidence you have in yourself and make you feel like the weakest amongst them,” she mutters as she picks up one complete droid body. She immediately tears off its arm, then smashes its head off. She then tosses the arm down and crushes it beneath her cybernetic limbs. “I apologize, tell Misri I will clean this all up now.”

> “No, you’ll clean it up after we spar.”

You throw off your jacket then roll up your sleeves. Her eye widens in surprise, looking at you. “No. Let’s have a spar first. You can clean it up after.”

She glances away, then back at you. “Are you sure this is wise?”

“It’s fine, I know you aren’t going to hurt me,” you say with a smirk. “Whenever you’re ready.”

Turns out, saying that “whenever she’s ready” is possibly the worst thing you can say to an Echani like Whisper. She immediately charges you, and smacks you against the wall. The breath has been absolutely knocked right out of you, and your vision has been doubled off into a swirly mess. You recover just quickly enough to dodge a cybernetic fist to the face. You push her away, raising your fists.

Okay, you may have made a mistake. But you’re going to commit. She steps back, spacing out her legs and raising her own fists in return. Alright, maybe if you can get her from the side, you can catch her. You step to the side.

And she immediately knocks you down, then brings her foot down on your head, pinning you. “You are still telegraphing your movements,” she says. You push her off, then quickly come back up to your feet. “You know what they did to me when I telegraphed my movements? They lashed me every time I so much as twitched.” You gnash your teeth, keeping your fists up.

Okay, maybe a direct attack. You’ve got the size advantage here. You step forward.

And she immediately steps to the side, then pushes you right into the wall. The brief second of being dazed is just enough for her to grab your arm, then pull you close into a headlock from which you can’t recover. She lies back on the floor, further tightening her grip. You smack the floor, trying to signal that you’re out. “Wh- Whisper!” you croak.

She lets go, and you catch your breath. She sits down on the ground next to you as you pant. Heart is racing, lungs are absolutely on fire. You feel your rib. It feels like she might have tweaked one of them. “You are still very arrogant judging by how your movements are telegraphed. You will need to learn to suppress those tiny movements if you wish to fight on the level of an Echani.”

“Alright, fine. Teach me then,” you ask. She looks over, again surprised by your forwardness. “I figure I might as well learn now than get my butt kicked later.” You stand up, dusting yourself off and looking down on her. “I think you’d be a good teacher.”

She looks away. “No I wouldn’t.”

“Well, you’re the only Echani for miles now,” you say. “Teach me.”

She huffs, shaking her head as she stands up. “Very well. I will –attempt- to teach you what I know. Rest assured, you will be tested very strictly. Now assume your stance.” You nod. Stance. You raise your fists, and plant your lead foot forward. “… alright.” What, is something wrong? “Now, try and punch me.”

“You sure?” you ask. You don’t want to accidentally hurt her after all.

“You couldn’t even land a blow on me, what makes you think you will hurt me?” she asks. Oh. Well. Okay, yeah, that’s a good point. You try to punch her, and find nothing but air. She immediately chops you in the side, and you yelp in pain. She did tweak your rib! Agh! “You are twitching your arm before you punch. Stop that.”

“Agh!” You hold your side. “Okay, okay.” She stands straight, ready for you to try again. You try again, this time she dodges, and again chops you in the rib. “Agh! You little- What did I do wrong!?”

“You missed,” she says.

Vikker steps in, along with Admiral Reike. “Rhys.” They find you sparring with Whisper. You’re covered in bruises and scratches, while Whisper appears as if not a hand has been laid on her. You look over, then call for Whisper to stop. She does, standing straight and at attention. “Admiral Reike,” says Vikker.

“Thanks, Vik,” you say. He nods to you, and leaves you in the shop with Admiral Reike and Whisper. Reike folds his arms, giving you a very passive stern glare. He must still be mad about yesterday. “Admiral Reike, is something the matter?”

He shakes his head. “On the contrary, I have a special treat for you, Rhys. I just got word from a few friends of mine at the Imperial Academy at Carida.” Oh? “The Headmaster there is willing to wipe your expulsed records, and let you start anew.” You blink, holding your hands at your hips. “In fact, considering my praise of you, he willing to fast track you all the way to Flight School in just a few months rather than a full two years.”

“Really.” You smile a little. Wow. That’s amazing. The things connections can give you, huh. “That’s great.”

He looks over at Whisper. “And who’s this? I don’t think we’ve been introduced.”

“This is Whisper,” you say. “She’s an Echani mercenary I picked up a little while ago.” Whisper bows to Admiral Reike, hand over heart.

“Charmed,” says Admiral Reike. He looks back at you. “There’s something else I need to talk to you about, come walk with me, we should discuss this somewhere more private.”

Whisper cocks her head. “Admiral, sir. I was busy teaching Rhys. If you would allow us to-“ Reike looks over at Whisper, then Whisper immediately coughs, silencing herself. “… sir.”

> “This won’t take long, Whisper. Wait here.”

“This won’t take long,” you say. “Just wait, Whisper.” She looks at you, saddened it seems by your departure. “Admiral.” The two of you walk out of the machine and towards the boarding ramp.

When you step down and are firmly in his territory, he starts speaking to you. “Rhys. Do you know the value of a superweapon such as the Force Harvester?” You shrug, allowing him to explain it to you. “Think about it, with a weapon that powerful, we could liberate dozens of worlds from the Rebel Alliance without even having to send boots to the ground. Droids are immune to its effect, and really all the Force Harvester does is suck up and wipe everything organic out. Like a big defoliator.”

You nod as you step onto the elevator in the hangar. It starts rising, allowing you to see the scale of the TIE Fighter squadrons complementing the Undertaker, hundreds of TIE Fighters, bombers, and even a few newer Interceptors as well. “If you are still mad about it sir, I assure you, I did everything I could.”

“Believe me, I don’t think you did,” he says. You look forward, trying not to make eye contact. “But, I have nothing to prove it with. So I will have to take your word. You want to know how deep the Subjugator sank?” You look at him again, curious. “Deep enough that the light from the star isn’t casting down at those depths. Not just that, but even with the specialized gear we have brought, extracting the Force Harvester will take time. Time unfortunately I should not be wasting.”

You smirk a bit. “Why don’t you just cook all the water? You wouldn’t have to deal with it then.”

“I considered that,” he says. Your smirk drops. Oh. “I might do it later if it proves too logistically difficult.” Damn it. “But we’re not here to discuss the Force Harvester now. We’re here to discuss something a bit more diplomatic in nature.”

“Oh?” you blink. “How so?” The elevator stops, and the two of you start walking down the catwalk above the hundreds of TIE Fighters parked in the hangar. TIE Pilots and technicians salute the two of you as you walk.

“You are familiar with the Furies?” You nod. “Mandalorian pirates. They’ve been nipping at our heels for far too long.” Oh, please don’t say you have to eliminate them. “I need them gone. They’re posing difficult problems for our logistics chains in the Outer Rim, attacking Imperial shipments, raiding our bases, and slaughtering our personnel like gizka. They have to be eliminated. I know you know a way to do that.”

“… sir.” You bite your lip, stepping in front of him. “I just reacquired their trust. You can’t ask me to just destroy them.”

“I’m not asking you,” he says. “I am telling you to do this.”

“There has to be a peaceful solution.”

He folds his arms. “You’re not expecting me to just forgive a bunch of pirates for killing and slaughtering Imperial navy officers and ignoring maritime law and spacing survivors of their attacks, are you?” Well, when he puts it that way. “… there’s a price for this, isn’t there?”

He holds up a hand, stopping you. “This is about them being cutesy, isn’t it?” What? “They’re all very young girls, very mature at the same time. Let me guess, perhaps you think you have a chance of scoring that cute warrior poon, am I correct? Regardless if I am or not correct, this is not a discussion. They will be gone one way or another. They are growing as a threat, starting this year they were just one ship, now they are almost a dozen. And if we allow it, they may rally the other Houses and Clans to their cause and incite a very misplaced revolt somewhere we don’t want it.”

“Well, sir. I don’t think that’ll happen. The Furies are disgraced already,” you explain.

“I know,” he says. Wait. How does he know? “Now listen, if I were as young as you, maybe I could understand the logic of refusing to do this. Perhaps you are genuinely in love with Warmaster Vizsla. Perhaps you think you could sire her daughter that’ll succeed her one day. Or perhaps you do owe them something because they helped in some way, or maybe it’s the other way around. Or more likely, maybe you see them as helpless little girls who need a man to save them. Let me be very honest with you. These are not little girls doing little girls things. They are pirates, and like all other pirates, they will be arrested and blasted at dawn.”

“…” You bite your lip, nodding slowly. “You’re mad, aren’t you?”

The ten candidates all stand before you, Admiral Reike, and the small cadre of officers, dressed in their Flight Suits, with their helmets under their arms. Behind them are the three tri-paneled TIE Defender prototypes. “Welcome. My name is Admiral Daas Reike. This is one of our advisors, Rhys Cykgil.” He folds his arms, glancing at you, then back to the candidates. “Your designations, names and killcount if you please.”

The first one, a blonde male, probably from Carida considering his thick build. “DFS-C2-6233. Klyde Zharoff. 20 kills, sir.”

The second one, a familiar girl. “DFS-C7-2124. Merena Valerius. 35 kills, sir.” 35!? What happened between then and now!?

The third. A blue skinned Chiss female with piercing red eyes. “DFS-24-6777. Tehat. 22 kills.”

The fourth. A black haired boy with a cybernetic eye. “DFS-188-3523. Tennet Vizsla. 15 kills.”

The fifth. Oh great. This guy again. “DFS-181-2066. Russ Qel-Dorn. 40 kills.”

The sixth. A brown skinned girl with blonde hair. “DFS-202-7338. Klyna Katarn. 21 kills.”

The seventh. An older looking veteran with a scar across his nose and gray hairs at his sideburns. “DFS-101-0212. Cal Ostermueller. 50 kills.”

The eighth. A red haired girl with brown eyes and a sickening smirk on her face. “DFS-120-3563. Jane Cauller. 17 kills.”

The ninth. A Sarkhai girl with predator-like tattoos across her face and black eyes. “DFS-633-2212. Vima Pelenskya. 25 kills.”

And the tenth. A very large cadet with a square face and a nervous disposition. “DFS-C5-2401. Moxley Daufine. 9 kills.” Only 9? Interesting.

Admiral Reike crosses his arms. “Seven of you will be going home back to your original assignments. Three of you will become the first to fly the prototype TIE Defenders before they even reach production.” They all nod. “Now. Do you all want it?”

“Yes, sir!” they all shout.

“Good,” Admiral Reike says. “Your orders are to mount up into your TIEs and deploy in the fleet and await your first test. Cadet Valerius will be your pointman.” She nods, saluting. “Dismissed.” They all nod, turning around. He looks to you. “What do you think?”

“Pretty decent killcounts,” you say. “Context?”

“Mostly pirates,” he says. “Moxley though is here because of heroic actions over Saleucami. Those 9 kills were against Rebel X-Wings. The rest are here based on recommendations from their superiors.” Hm, interesting. “I’m rating them mostly on their obedience though rather than their ability.”

“Why?” you ask. In your experience, obedience and fighter pilots never really got along.

“Because obedient pilots don’t steal your prototypes and defect to the Rebels,” he says. “We can worry about ability later. I need pilots now.” He looks to you. “Out of them though, do you see anyone you like?”

> Merena. You really want to know the context of those 30 additional kills.

“Merena seems good.” You fold your arms. “I’d like to know how she got all of those kills.”

“Turns out there’s quite a bit of pirate activity in the inner core,” says Admiral Reike. “But I’ll keep that in mind. Their first test is going to be a simulated fight against some recently acquired Vulture droids.” Admiral Reike escorts you to a screen as the TIE Fighters leave the hangar. “Unbeknownst to them though, I’ve disabled their weapons. It’s not a fight, it’s a test to see how long they can last.” He looks to one of his officers. “Begin the test.”

And at that, a huge flock of training Vulture droids deploy from the Redeemer. The candidates all turn around to engage. However, it appears Merena and Moxley immediately break away. “Sir.” One of the officers holds a pair of headphones over her head. “We’re tracking their radio communications. It appears Cadets Valerius and Daufine realized their weapons were disabled.”

“It takes only a quick glance,” you say. However, the rest of the squadron barrels right into the flock, with Russ immediately being stunned. He flies right out of control before the safety equipment on his TIE stops him in place. The other candidates start dodging and weaving, trying to hold out. But one by one, they’re eliminated very quickly leaving only Merena and Moxley to fend for themselves.

And to their credit, Merena and Moxley pull incredibly drastic maneuvers to defend themselves. They pull the Vultures through open hangars, around command towers, and even into the danger zone of an Imperial Star Destroyer’s engines. Finally, Moxley is disabled by a lucky shot, sending him spinning to a stop.

“Hm.” Admiral Reike looks at you. “Looks like you were right.” You smile a little. Hm, kid’s got potential. “Well, we should-“

“Sir.” A different officer comes up behind you two. “Aqua troopers are reporting resistance in Sector 5. They claim that Mon Calamari militia are driving off their perimeter teams.” You look at Admiral Reike, trying to look clueless. He doesn’t appear convinced however. “They report that the Mon Calamari seem to have a home here, and are probably harboring the Rebels we’re after. They already have one of the Mon Calamari prisoner sir, and he is coming aboard for interrogation.”

“Very good, Lieutenant.” The officer nods, standing at attention. He looks over at you. “I’m afraid we’re going to have to cut things a little short, pick up tomorrow. Can I trust you for five minutes to not embarrass me?”

> “Sure, sir. I’ll let them know.”

“I’ll be sure to let them know, sir.” He pats you on the arm, nodding, then leaves with the first Officer. That just left you to break the bad news to the candidates, who all arrive back in the hangar in good time. Merena and Moxley happily give each other a fist bump while the losers angrily fall in behind them. “Alright, listen up.” They all look at you, except for Moxley and Merena, it’s mostly contemptuous and confusion. “The Admiral has had some sudden business come up, which means that this evaluation will have to be delayed to tomorrow.” They all frown, some in the back muttering angrily. “Hey, hey. He’ll be back tomorrow, I assure you. We can get this thing going, and we’ll choose who flies these things, alright? So you’re dismissed until then.”

They all look around, unsure of what to do now. Russ immediately shoves his way past them however and walks up to you. “What is a class-A scumbag like you doing in Admiral Reike’s pocket?”

“What’s an idiot like you doing trying to make yourself out as some elite pilot?” you snap back. “And let me be very clear to you, Russ, you lay a hand on me or anything, and Reike will send you back home at best. Alright?”

He snorts. “You couldn’t shoot me down if I were in some bulk freighter and you had one of those Defenders?” He smirks. “You’ve been out of the Imperial Navy for far too long, Rhys.”

“And thank goodness,” you say.

“What?” He tilts his head. “You think just because you’re good at getting your nose stained brown you’re better than me?” He jabs your chest. “How about a challenge? You and me, one on one.” The TIE Defender candidates all look at you, expectant.

“Russ, you are no challenge to me,” you say. “Moxley and Merena here, they did way better than you in that first test, they’d be actual challenges to me. Instead, you come here with your lamebrain wiseguy attitude thinking you’re the top gun when in reality the only reason you’re still a TIE pilot is because the system is absolutely broken and irreparable and encourages little crudsuckers like you to get ahead by cutting the line. Get out of my face.”

He scoffs, turning around. “Coward.” He starts walking back to his TIE Fighter.

You shake your head. You should probably return to your ship anyway.

But before you do, Merena catches up with you, smiling. “Rhys! Hi, I- uh… I hope I’m not bothering you.” You look over at her. “… I am, aren’t I?”

“What do you want?”

“Well, to thank you!” She smiles happily. “Your advice worked. I built up my killcount, other cadets started looking up to me now. Jag even is impressed with me.” Jag!? Wow, his standards must have dropped. “I just wanted to thank you so much. And now- Now I get the chance to fly a TIE Defender! Can you believe that? I didn’t even know those existed until yesterday!”

“Well, they do,” you say.

“Well-“ She stops next to you, making you stop as well. “S- since you’re here. Actually. I mean- I know things might seem a bit… er… favoritist. But if you had more to teach me.” She smiles hopefully. “Please?”

“Sure. Most of piloting is the mental math, you gotta be able to do it in your head. You know the exercise with 25 squares and you gotta hit them in order?” She nods, very much familiar with it. “What’s your best time?”

“10.3 seconds,” she says.

“Mine was 6.2,” you say. She nods slowly, impressed. “Look, I like what you did out there, you actually took the second or two to check if your weapons were powered. That’s something that’ll save your life.” She nods quickly. “And I like that maneuver into the danger zone of a thruster, that’s not something you see a lot.”

“Well, that was more Moxley,” she says. “It’s a shame he got knocked out.”

You shrug. “Well, he’s good, I’ll say that. Let’s talk about you though.” She blushes a bit, glancing away. “Not like that.” You smirk. “Yet.” She coughs, blushing even more deeply. “Look.” You pull up your holopad. “Here, let’s start on some simple mental exercises, that’ll get you going. I’ll warm you up with a dodging exercise.”

“Captain Cykgil.” A naval trooper comes to claim you as you stand next to one of the TIE Fighters. Your audience has expanded from Merena, to Moxley, and to all of the rest of the candidates minus Russ. “Captain Cykgil.” You stop your lecture, looking over to him. “Admiral Reike requests your presence.”

You step into an empty conference room, where Admiral Reike, his Inquisitors, and a pair of Stormtroopers stand. Admiral Reike slouches in his seat, then motions you to sit across from him at the table. “Sit.” You nod slowly, then sit down. You take a deep breath, and steel yourself for the absolute clusterfrak coming your way. “We just finished interrogating the Mon Calamari. Didn’t take long, those fishes break much easier than you think they do.”

“Right,” you say. “What did he say?”

“He said you were there to meet Eudora and Menace Squadron, you volunteered to help her take down the Subjugator, but after that.” He shrugs, giving you a very passive glare. “Nothing, says you didn’t make it back to the base.” That’s still a lot of incriminating stuff. “Of course, he also claimed that he was the one that disfigured Emperor Palpatine, he says that a terrorist attack is going to happen on Corsucant in two days, and that he loves human women.” You blink, pressing your lips together. “… our methods are very powerful, sometimes we go overboard. But thank goodness they at least admit the truth, or whatever the truth is.”

“So… where do I fit in all of this?” you ask.

You know what we do to children who misbehave and get into trouble?” He leans over the table, looking at you. “We bend them over our knee, spank them a couple of times, give them time out, boom. Not trying as hard is not sabotaging.

We fulfilled part of the contract, stopping it from falling into rebel hands, and took no payment either and also removed a large threat to the empire in the form of the subjugator and Nautlius' droid army.
>>
>>45931009
Not wanting to do something, and preventing Reike from accomplishing an objective, are two different things, though.

With the Furies, we just told him we won't help him wipe them out.
With the Force Harvester, he's outright saying that we took the job in order to keep the thing out of his hands, which we objectively did.

The only question now is, can we lie our way out of this, or should we accept that he's caught us, and admit the truth?
Our track record with Reike shows that he's a lot smarter than Rhys, and is much better at detecting lies.

>one of 3 places where it belongs.
It's in one of the three that it can still be recovered, though.
Reike said he IS going to evaporate the water on the planet to get to it; that's his next step since he couldn't get droids and troopers down that far.
We didn't stop him from getting the Force Harvester, only delayed him. And for what? Nothing, except losing what little trust he had left in Rhys.
>>
>>45931203

I didn't plant the transmitter. Though as far as sinking the nautilus goes it seemed the best option to sink them there than risk them getting away or using the weapon. As I'm sure you know it was going to be ready sooner than later.

We fucked Reike over when we told the Rebels the location of the Katana Fleet, but he didn't take an arm then because we admitted to it when he called us on it.

You think the punishment would have been the same regardless of how we answered, when it's been shown that Reike values honesty and hates being lied to far more than simple failure or betrayal due to monetary interests.

What indication is there that the rebellion thinks differently?

Besides, at the end of the day, the rebellion is its members, and the rebels who were there opted to simply deny everyone the force harvester.

> “Me!”

You quickly croak out a “Me!” You press your face into the table, gritting your teeth. “Not them, me.” A few seconds of silence however, each one feeling more like an hour than a second.

“Hey, look at me. Look at me.” He grabs your cheek, then forces you to look at him. “That’s noble of you to take the fall for them. I must say. That’s not going to save your arm though.”

And with a quick slash, you’re on the ground, screaming your head off. You hold your stump of a right arm, the rest of it still lying on the table. Searing pain rushes not just through your shoulder, but through every nerve in your body, from head to toe. Blood spurts out of the freshly cauterized stump that was once your arm. “Agh! You- you-“

He kneels down next to you. “Listen, and listen well. I offer you credits, you do what I say. That is the simplest thing in this galaxy. And I fail to understand why you find the need to make it so difficult. So let me make this as clear and as dumbed down as your pathetic mind will allow. When I give you the money, you start working for me.” He roughly taps you on the cheek. “That means you work for –me-.” He points to himself. “That means, I own you. You do as I say.”

“You- you’re crazy!” you say out of shock.

“No, I’m smart, unlike you.” He stands up, looking down on you. “And unlike you, I have principles, you may not agree with them but they are principles all the same. You, Rhys, are making this incredibly difficult for yourself. Just take the money and do the job. What is so hard about that?” You groan in pain, cradling yourself as you curl up. He places his hands on his hips. “And for the record, if you had at least admitted that you were sabotaging me, I wouldn’t have cut your arm off.”

“Wh- why all this!?” you scream.

“Because I have to, not because I want to. Believe me this hurts me more than it hurts you.” He points down at you, glaring at you while the Sisters stand over you as well. “Now here’s what you’re going to do. I am going to give you 20,000 credits. And you are going to go to the Furies, and either make them give up the pirate schtick, or destroy them completely. Next time something like this happens, it won’t be your arm, it’ll be your head.” He looks to his Stormtroopers, then nods to them. “Get him out of here. Dispose of the arm.”

You’re roughly grabbed by those white-suited goons, then limply dragged right out of the room. Admiral Reike watches you leave, arms folded, and a very vicious glare behind that old man’s face.

-

-

The news of the loss of your arm did not go well with your crew. Everybody gathered in, solemnly as Misri did her best under Whisper’s direction to attach a new cybernetic replacement. No more warm feelings from your right hand, now there’s a long adjustment period before it feels natural and “real”. You sit down whilst they do it, staring ahead.

Misri looks over. “… this is my fault, isn’t it?”

“What are you talking about?” you ask.

She shrugs, looking down guiltily. “I-… if we had just-… it’s my fault, I can tell.” She shakes her head, continuing to finish up the wiring.

Force Harvester - sabotaged the recovery and let the target of opportunity go, then lied about it

Oh I get that. But everyone universally voted to let the jedi go. Because that was a baad fight.

Rhys has consistently betrayed Reike, and Rhys is being well paid for his services.
Reike paying Rhys and then expecting to 1. have his goods delivered and 2. not be backstabbed (for far less money than the initial payment) is not Rhys sucking Empire dick and being a pawn.
It's called doing a job.

That's the standard response of anyone and everyone that Rhys dealt with and then betrayed.

Have you forgotten that Rhys does not take jobs where if he fucks up he just gets fired?
The jobs he takes, if he fucks up, there's either a Hutt bounty on his head, a team of mercenaries are trying to vaporize him, or he is captured in order to fight to the death in gladiator pits.

If you want a job where the punishment for betrayal or failure is simply being fired and a lawsuit, then go legit. Don't be a Scum For Hire.

>>
>>45932842
>He wants us to murder the Furies
He JUST said to get them to stop being pirates, peacefully or otherwise. He doesn't care as long as the raiding on Imperial shipping and civilian ships stops.
Are you being intentionally dense, or do you already believe that getting the Furies to stop murdering civilians and crews that surrender is a hopeless endeavor?

>>
>>45932933
>“You’re not expecting me to just forgive a bunch of pirates for killing and slaughtering Imperial navy officers and ignoring maritime law and spacing survivors of their attacks, are you?” Well, when he puts it that way. “… there’s a price for this, isn’t there?”
He wants to punish them.
>>
> “It’s not your fault.”

You shake your head. “It’s not your fault. You didn’t sink the Force Harvester, you didn’t do anything to get on Reike’s bad side. This was all me,” you say. She nods slowly, then you feel your cybernetic hand twitch. Feels like she’s done. You look over at Dodger and Wilco, then say to them, “Input the coordinates. Tell Warmaster Vizsla I’m coming.”

“Roger, roger,” they say quickly, leaving the room.

Kuvasz crosses his arms. “For what it’s worth, you took your lumps like a man. Most people would’ve let others take the fall but you took the punishment for us, and for that I admire you, Rhys.”

“Well screw that feelgood fierfek!” yells Vikker. “We gotta get out of this partnership or whatever this is! This isn’t right! He can’t just cut your arm off and keep you working for him like nothing happened!” He storms up to you, and nearly makes you flinch when he points his claw at you. “Rhys, we have got to get out of this, now. There is no turning back from this.”

“The Aqualish is right,” says Whisper.

“I have a name,” says Vikker.

“That I forgot,” Whisper says quickly. “But the point is that if Admiral Reike is willing to do this to you, perhaps there is no line to what else he will do to you or this ship’s crew.”

[1/2]
>>
>>45932965
[2/2]

“Guys, look.” You hold up your good hand. “I appreciate that all of you care about me so much. But we are going to do our job. He’s already paid us the 20,000. And he is our boss for now.” Vikker throws up his arms in frustration, storming out of the room. “You guys don’t understand what is at stake. I have served with the Empire, I know what they are capable of. This Admiral Reike character? If I screw him over one more time, I am dead. That’s not an empty threat, that’s a promise. And if you think you can fight the Empire, forget about it!” You stand up, nearly stumbling over yourself. “Just forget about it!” you yell at them. “You can’t fight it! The Empire’s always going to be here! And they are going to win! We’ve got to think about ourselves, and right now, our job is to break up the Furies so I don’t get killed! Got that!?”

Misri looks down, twiddling with the parts to her lightsaber. Whisper folds her arms, slightly disappointed.

“I got it,” says Kuvasz. He turns around then leaves the machine shop.

Whipser nods as well, stepping out of the shop as well to her room.

And finally, Misri looks up at you. She opens her mouth to say something, then bites her lip, silencing herself. She heads into the cargo bay.

Leaving you alone.

Do we mark the cybernetic arm as loot?
>>
>>45933039
It mostly stems from his experiences as a kid during the Clone Wars. The Republic that would later turn into the Empire devastated his homeworld and forced him to flee to safer pastures.

But his fear also stems from his time in the Imperial Academy, running the simulations, shooting down the pirates, and most of all being indoctrinated. Rhys likes to think he's smarter than that but in reality, he's been brainwashed to think the Empire is unstoppable.

So basically this: >>45933058

>>45933066
You took it from the pair of arms you bought off of Jennis. Good thing you bought those.

I prefer getting paid, there's a lot of money to be made crushing the Rebels and working for the Empire.
I'm in this for the credits and loot, and don't care how many people die.
We're turning out to be some washed-out copy of Han Solo and Mal Reynolds instead of a criminal motivated by profit.

>>45933144

>>
>>45933193
>And then one day a mission doesn't work out how Reike expects and he tortures us and kills our crew in front of us
No mission has ever gone that way.
He punished Rhys not because he failed in the mission, but because he sabotaged it on purpose and then lied about it.

We have never actually completed a job for Reike without trying to backstab him in some way. The only reason I can think of that he hasn't killed Rhys yet is because in spite of the backstabbing, the missions were still partial successes.
>>

Upgrade: Chrome Arm
>>
>>45933232
Except that the problem is that anons are not going to live up to his expectations, or yours apparently.

In every instance we've chosen the not admiral approved route.

That's not going to change. He's also cut off an arm. I get Why you think it's justified but any sane human being would get the fuck out of dodge.
>>
>>45933251
>The only reason I can think of that he hasn't killed Rhys yet is because in spite of the backstabbing, the missions were still partial successes.
Also because German seems to want to keep running the quest from Rhys' perspective.
>>
>>45933243
There's a simple way to stop digging. Just stop acting like a moralfag and do the job that you were paid to do. This isn't rocket science.
>>
>>45933232
>Don't forget the part where he blows up our homeworld and kills everyone we ever spoke with, removing memories of our existence from the galaxy.

See now you're going to absurdity. But Reike WILL torture us for fucking up even a little now. You heard him he OWNS us. Meaning we act a little out of line he's well within his perceived rights to do whatever he pleases to us. Furthermore if Misri and Kruvasz don't leave on their own he'll want them dead. One for being a jedi wannabe who doesn't like nor respect the Empire, and the other for having a paladin complex who would go against it in a heartbeat.

Furthermore if you think he wouldn't torture or execute them to punish us you're a moron.
>>
>>45933276
>Moralfag!

So you just want to play a murder hobo? What's the point? Are you the guy who was bitching that we'd shoot children for the right money?

I like Rhys having more to him than, "I kill things for credits."
>>
>>45933269
>any sane human being would get the fuck out of dodge.
I'm in favor of that, I just want to call everyone idiots until this thread finishes for getting Rhys' arm chopped off.

If Reike was being honest with us (and he has been so far) then simply telling the truth would have made this situation a lot less bad. But everyone insists upon trying to one up Reike by lying whenever possible, despite that track record not being that great.
>>
>>45933276
His BOSS just CUT OFF his ARM
The money's no good, man!
Why are you fuckers obsessed with working for the VILLAIN?
>>
>>45933255
Choose one:
A business deal goes bad.
You get your arm chopped off.

If you choose the second one, then you are roughly as crazy as Reike is.
>>
>>45933276
I never wanted the morality I'm just tired of people talking like Rhys is a cold hearted mercenary then voting to make him the opposite it's killing him.
>>
>>45933298
>Furthermore if you think he wouldn't torture or execute them to punish us you're a moron.
With the direction we've been going I was sort of expecting that, but I'd have preferred torture that left our piloting skills mostly intact. Us being unable to pilot suitably for weeks or months makes things a lot more difficult.
>>
>>45933299
>I like Rhys having more to him than, "I kill things for credits."
And I don't. There are enough Han Solo wannabes out there and not enough actual mercenaries.
>>
>>45933319
The only people who are talking like he's a cold hearted mercenary are an angry minority who are mad we don't shoot children for five credit chits.
>>
>>45933310
All we had to do to keep the arm was tell the truth. Why don't you get that?
>>
>>45933303
Because the villain pays us for services rendered and objects delivered, doesn't lie to us, or send us into a situation without telling us all pertinent information he has available.
>>
>>45933331
>There are enough Han Solo wannabes out there and not enough actual mercenaries.
because playing I will kill someone or fuck them over for money and only money is boring as fuck.
>>
>>45933332
If plays want morals then why are we working for Reike? I just hate how bipolar it all is Rhys has yet to complete a single mission fully and we always vote to betray him why bother staying. Rhys has better job offers that are less dangerous.
>>
>>45933326
I'm pretty sure he'd have straight up killed one of our crew if we chose them. Because then we'd be a huge coward too, and he hates that even more than lying.
>>
>>45933331
He hasn't been that since thread one. You're asking for a totally flat character that just murders people for money. It's not going to happen.

>>45933341
And Rhys has time and again to your outrage had a conscious, so that's not working out.
>>
>>45933336
I do get that.
My point is that Reike saying "this hurts me more than it hurts you" shows that he's nuts.
Being lied to in a business deal by someone who you knew was scum does not hurt more than having your arm chopped off. The fact that Reike thinks it is just shows how warped his perception of reality is.
>>
>>45933354
Because we have a few undecideds in the middle who thought that we could pull the wool over his eyes. You get them every election they're idiots who are stuck in the middle and can't make up their mind until shit goes down.

The credits might be good but we do not do the job as asked and will not do it as asked. It's a bad match. Apparently it took an arm for that to be seen.
>>
>>45933364
> My point is that Reike saying "this hurts me more than it hurts you" shows that he's nuts.

Then you should have said that instead of constantly trying to defend Rhys lying to the most honest and fair character in this quest.
>>
>>45933364
>a business deal
He likely believed that having the Force Harvester would be enough to quell the resistance, or at least prove enough of a threat to seriously hamper them without using it. Or he was intending on using it and destroying several worlds. Us betraying him was a huge reason to be pissed with us, as he so stated.

While I agree with your points it was may more than a business deal.
>>
German we were never going to get out of the furies mission were we?
>>
>>45933397
I did say that.
See >>45933144
>> Believe me this hurts me more than it hurts you.
> Dude has to be crazy if he honestly believes that.
>>
>>45933409
We don't have to do it. Rhys can join them and tell Reike to fuck off.
>>
>>45933401
He would definitely use it. This is an admiral with a reputation for doing distateful things in the clone wars.
>>
>>45933401
He flat out said to Rhys' face that he wanted to use the force harvester on DOZENS of worlds.

>>45925320
>>
>>45933409
It's up to you to decide now how to deal with it. Reike's being reasonable and allowing you to see if there's a peaceful solution to this Mr. House vs. Brotherhood of Steel nonsense.

>>45933432
That too.
>>
>>45933434
>>45933441
I get why we sunk the Force Harvester, but every single damn time everyone votes to lie to Rieke and it never works out well.
>>
>>45933432

losing the money will hurt, but Rhys re-bonded with her, he can't abandon now. Not to that fucking psycho.
>>
>>45933442
>Reike's being reasonable and allowing you to see if there's a peaceful solution to this Mr. House vs. Brotherhood of Steel nonsense.

For now this is our best option.

But really, Rhys needs to see that the Empire is bad news. Hopefully this arm loss and more thinking on this mission will help him come around to that point of view.
>>
>>45933442
you did an excellent job getting us invested in the quest.
>>
>>45933414
And then you go on in that post to defend Rhys' lying, betrayal, and lying about the betrayal. Not helping your case there.
>>
>>45933455
She will probably stay despite Rhys wishes.
>>
>>45933475
then he kidnaps her, fine
>>
>>45933475
Probably?

You're talking about Lotte.
>>
I think we need to play for time and lie low. Successfully completing this mission peacefully should do it.
>>
>>45933459
Rhys will only see that the Empire is bad news when the players do, which will be approximately never. /tg/ loves the Empire even knowing all the awful shit it will do later in the story, I seriously doubt that they'd ditch it now. Even with the arm, people seem more interested on blaming that on Rhys as if he was the one who chopped it off himself and Reike was just a helpless bystander with no agency of his own.
>>
>>45933442
Would Reike hold one of his own captains hostage to get back at scum like Rhys?
>>
>>45933442
If it's not in the middle of a job that he's given to Rhys, would Reike spend the resources to hunt Rhys down?

Reike doesn't seem the sort to waste resources like that, especially when he knows that people like Rhys will eventually come back in need of more money.

Speaking of which, what about the payout from selling the Auridium?
>>
>>45933520
He doesn't have any reason to.
>>
>>45933454
I like how there are no comments on that.
>>
>>45933442
Is there? Also when if our gold money coming in?

How long will it take for Rhys to accumulate to this new arm?

How bad is morale?

Also can you please answer my previous question on faction and upgrade?
>>
Rhys betrayed Reike first I'm surprised it took him this long to snap. That being said Rhys will never complete his mission when its really evil so all we are going to do is be punished for constantly failing. It makes no sense to stick around if we can't do the job. Rhys has a heart and won't do some things it makes sense to leave the danger isn't worth the money. Rhys needs to resist Reike he isn't a slave and won't keep his crew in constant danger. What benefit does Rhys get from constantly being tortured and eventually killed.
>>
In my opinion? We just need to get out. Go somewhere the empire won't find us in the outer rim

There's not going to be anything more for us here
>>
>>45933516
>people seem more interested on blaming that on Rhys as if he was the one who chopped it off himself and Reike was just a helpless bystander with no agency of his own.
That's because Rhys specifically embarked on a course of action that lead to Reike retaliating for Rhys' constant lying and betrayals.
If Rhys hadn't lied when Reike told him he knows what really happened, he wouldn't have lost the arm.
>>
>>45933535
Because I agree, getting rid of the WMD was good.

I regret not voting about the lie/truth thing with Reike.
>>
>>45933520
He wants to exterminate dozens of inhabited worlds using a machine that sucks out the closest thing in the setting to a person's soul. I don't think a little hostage taking would be much of a problem for him if he felt like hurting someone.
>>
>>45933544
>be punished for constantly failing
We're actually being punished for constantly lying about our intentional failing of missions, not the failure of the mission itself.

It was the same with the Katana Fleet betrayal; because we didn't lie to Reike, he just docked our pay instead of going further with it.
>>
The funny part of this, we keep getting credits but no place to spend it since voting on upgrades or buying shit is the part German hates about this quest.
>>
>>45933530
1. Reike's not a guy who leaves loose ends. It's why he shot down all of those escape pods during the Clone Wars or keeps a massive blockade around Alpheridies to keep people from coming in. It really depends on how the relationship is voided.

2. The payout for the aurodium is in, but Reike is keeping it for now in a bank account for you and it is ready for you in the event that you want to retire.

He won't allow it in the middle of a mission though.

>>45933540
Rhys can adapt to new things quickly. At most, it'll take a few weeks up to a month, maybe even faster with Whisper guiding him.

As for morale, well, it's not in the best case.

And no faction changes or upgrades.
>>
>>45933595
>if he felt like hurting someone.
Well, are you going to give Reike a reason to hurt Rhys more?
>>
>>45933614
we aren't going to stop though so it makes no sense to stick around lying is failing and Rhys keeps doing it on purpose it's only going to escalate from here.
>>
>>45933544
There's a simple solution: Stop failing. Stop lying. Stop betraying. Just do the job that you're paid to do.

> Rhys will never complete his mission when its really evil
> hurr durr EVUL
Not this again. Do you have a single rational reason for not just doing the job? Reike has been more than fair with Rhys and he's paid him well. Do you have a single legitimate point to make that can answer that, or are you just going to keep repeating the same old emotional garbage that you think passes for an argument?
>>
>>45933633
>Reike is keeping it for now in a bank account for you and it is ready for you in the event that you want to retire.

LETS RETIRE AFTER THIS LAST JOB.

>>
>>45933633
>It really depends on how the relationship is voided.
How about after successfully completing a job and NOT LYING ABOUT IT, a "I'm sorry, Admiral, but my piloting ability has degraded to the point I'm no longer confident that I can give you the results you want, and I'd prefer to retire"?
>>
>>45933633
If we had told him the truth would he still force this mission on us?

Yeah, Reike is reasonable enough. That doesn't mean he won't try to pull you out of retirement though if he needs something from you but he'll allow it.

>>45933681
1. If you had told him the truth, he wouldn't have cut your arm off and may have been more reasonable about the mission's parameters.

2. Right arm.

3. Depends on how you would've handled it afterwards.
>>
>>45933672
The reason is the players won't let him do evil they just won't it makes sense if enough people always vote to do the moral thing that Rhys will never just do the job.
>>
So do we mark this event in the list of fucking things up in a German's quest. I have a list.

What ranking should this be?
>>
>>45933719
How reasonable?

But i mean fuck all this because of a tracker.
>>
>>45933730

5. maybe.

1st would be Trying to turn and fire when we couldnt.

RIP.
>>
>>45933633
Ah so he stole all of those funds. What a great guy! See you can't handle your own money Rhys you're just a child, here let daddy admiral hold on to it for you.
>>
>>45933730
>What ranking should this be?
6?

Word of GS, if we'd told the truth, we'd still have an arm, we would have had more operational leeway in dealing with the Furies (like they can still be space pirates, as long as they're preying on non-Imperial shipping, like messing with the Hapan Cluster).
>>
>>45933730
Eh there was one where people chose to let the waifu get into a jousting match with a knight. She ended up dead and they all screamed at German.
>>
Time to cut our losses and run, we grab Lotte and leave. at a future date we tell Reike to fuck off search for trackers and go back to an actual life of crime somewhere far away.
>>
>>45933752
Nah, That's number three but i guess number 4 now due to the lying part.

1st was the Pivot Turn in WW1 Witches

2nd was the helmet thing for Dirty Merchant.
>>
>>45933730
The only think fucked up about it is that people seemed to think that it was anything but their own fucking stupidity. The actual arm thing was fairly reasonable given the circumstances.
>>
>>45933752
>Trying to turn and fire when we couldnt.
>>45933784
>1st was the Pivot Turn in WW1 Witches

Exactly what i meant.
>>
>>45933748
Reasonable enough. He realizes that he just made a very good asset probably hate him more than fear him so he'll understand if Rhys wants to retire.
>>
>>45933748
It wasn't even that, it was the lying to him.
>>
>>45933785
I guess, I'm fucking bitter about it but i have no say in that matter.

>>45933799
I meant in Mission parameters. How reasonable would he be?
>>
>>45933818
Hindsight but i wished he talked about this/argued during the vote then after it happened.
>>
>>45933827
He just wants the Furies gone. He honestly doesn't care how, he just wants them gone completely. He doesn't care for them as an asset.
>>
>>45933719
> 1. If you had told him the truth, he wouldn't have cut your arm off and may have been more reasonable about the mission's parameters.

I really hope this puts to rest all the garbage about turning against Reike. All people had to do was not lie, but apparently that was too hard for their tiny brains. Reike's a reasonable man and a fair employer, turning on him for shit that people brought on themselves would be so fucking stupid.
>>
>>45933759
He's holding on to it because Rhys has 3 times out of 3, fucked Reike over.
Given how Rhys has acted in the past, it's a perfectly reasonable precaution.

>See you can't handle your own money Rhys you're just a child, here let daddy admiral hold on to it for you.
Other than a blaster to the face like every other betrayed employer reacts with, and the absolute fury that the players levelled against Lotte when she first betrayed Rhys, Reike withholding a fortune from Rhys before the job is done is a pretty restrained response.
We HAVE played Rhys as someone who can't be trusted.
>>
>>45933849
Could we join the Furies against him?
>>
>>45933865
In this Quest, a lot of things are possible.
>>
>>45933853
But lying to him worked out so well the other two times.
>>
>>45933854
I really don't care. It's Rhys's money and should be his to do with as he pleases.

Reike putting his claws on it and making it a means of control angers me almost as much as Lottie's stupid shit. I understand the logic behind it, but I hate it.

But we've got one or two guys who want to be Reike's lap dog and schteel fucked up by allowing us to get something of that value in the first place.
>>
>>45933877
This is the first time we lied to him though well second if you count the jedi,

>>45933849
I'm sorry how reasonable would he have been for that mission if we had told him the truth.
>>
>>45933865
Why the fuck would we do that? German just said that Reike is reasonable and wouldn't have taken Rhys' arm if it weren't for the lying. He's been more patient with Rhys than anyone else and certainly more than Rhys deserves.
>>
>>45933854
>>45933854
Would you work for the person who cut off your arm are you really that submissive?
The players will never not sabotage Reike and they will never not lie its pretty clear look at the votes they are stupid but if Rhys stays with Reike this will continue and Reike will kill Rhys. I don't know about you guys but Rhys values his freedom and i don't think he would just give it up grow some balls and fight back sure we screwed up but why stick around to clean up our mess?
>>45933918
I keep saying it the the voters will keep voting to lie or betray they make it impossible to work for Reike.
>>
>>45933849
>He just wants the Furies gone.
So, is getting the Furies to simply not target Imperial shipping enough?
Or is that option closed out because lied to Reike?

Because, looking at the list of systems that the Empire doesn't control, there's a lot of shipping and trading that can get ambushed without being an Imperial problem.
>>
Heh, it only takes shit like this for us to auosage.
>>
>>45933912

And being a rebel lap dog is so much better? Reike's been straight with us, the only problem is that idiots keep thinking that screwing him will turn out well. He's far more reasonable than the rebels or any other employer out there who would have long since spaced Rhys if he pulled this sort of shit on them.
>>
>>45933912
>I'm sorry how reasonable would he have been for that mission if we had told him the truth.
That's been answered like three times already.

>>
>>45933938

The only reason Reike took Rhys' arm was because of the lying. Not the betrayal, not the sabotage, the lying. German flat out said it you dumbshit, how many times do we have to tell you this? Taking an arm was reasonable given the circumstances, anyone else would have done way worse if Rhys tried this shit with them.

>>45934171
>this same old emotional garbage. Do you have a single rational reason to back up your idiocy, or is that all that's banging around inside your skull?

Morality isn't idiocy anon, if you honestly think it is you may need help.

To be fair this conversation wouldn't be happening if we had just told him the truth. But hey the readers can't learn their lesson about lying to Reike.
>>
>>45934177
Should have made a stronger case during the voting period on why it was the right choice.
>>
>>45934143
Yes namecalling because I just undershot your entire retarded argument.

>>45934166
There are degrees of awful anon. enabling genocide is much worse than say stealing an artifact, or smuggling some drugs.

>>45934171
Because Rhys is human and not a Vulcan, ergo he makes emotional and instinctual choices.
>>
>>45934171
whats wrong with emotion? would you support genocide and help with it for money?
>>
>>45934212
>Yes namecalling because I just undershot your entire retarded argument.
What, as compared to the
>If you don't vote to lie to Reike you are a terrible person?
>>
>>45934187
I sure as shit wasn't going to phonepost at dinner with my buddies.
>>
>>45934220
Why the fuck not? Those people were stupid enough to rebel against the Empire, so that's what they deserve.

That is exactly what Rhys has grown up with, that's the attitude that he has shown time and again in regards to the Rebels from his own internal monologues.
>>
>>45934220
Yes he would he thinks it's rational. He's the guy that was talking about the wondrous capacity of Nazi Germany a few threads ago.

He'd be happier posting on stormfront of sharpening his Katana but we're stuck with him.
>>
>>45934240
That is reasonable.
>>
>>45934220
Honestly the thing that was stupid was lying to the admiral. Not the sabotaging a sith artifact.

But again hindsight.
>>
>>45934235
>>If you don't vote to lie to Reike you are a terrible person?
Point me to the post that said that, because I'm not scrolling through a whole bunch of shit to find a phrase that no one said.
>>
>>45934205
Morality isn't an issue here, just your knee-jerk response instead of thinking things through rationally. The Empire will do what it is going to do, Rhys can't stop that. What he can do is make money off of it, or at least not get his arm chopped off for no good reason.
>>
>>45934255
People including me were saying it was stupid at the time.
>>45934272
To late best not to stick around to lose his head

Just as you would be happier on tumblr, where everyone is as ignorant as you are.
>>
>>45934272

like handing a totalitarian regime that spans the galaxy a weapon that rips souls out of people?

Seems rational to me.

Can we all at least agree that working for the empire is going to kill Rhys and criminal or not it's best to find a different employer for or crews sake at least.
>>
>>45934302
It wouldn't do anything that the Empire couldn't have done with base delta zero. But apparently that little fact is too much for your poor brain to handle.
>>
>>45934235
Nice strawmanning anon. Still seeing no argument over namecalling.

Rhys crawling back to Reike now would make him a craven coward, cost us all our self respect, and the respect and loyalty of most of our crew. Furthermore it'd encourage Reike and other to abuse us more so we'd stay in line. Because hey if it worked once why not again?

>>45934249
Because everyone could tell he was trying to justify it so he wouldn't feel shitty about it.

>>45934272
He doesn't have to enable it though, which is what you're advocating. The die has been cast, it's literally too late unless you want to turn Rhys into a craven coward and have us lose our crew and all our friends.

>>45934308
I can, but Reike did nothing wrong anons won't.
>>
>>45934294
yeah, in one or two posts before it kind of went quiet. I wished i voted at the time but what can you do.
>>
>>45934308
Working for the Empire is fine as long as people aren't idiots who try to lie to Reike. It's a sweet gig as long as you remember that.
>>
>>45934329
We can get Rhys balls back
>>45934334
except we would be responsible for billions of deaths though the lying was stupid.
>>
>>45934323
>Nice strawmanning anon. Still seeing no argument over namecalling.
What is your argument then, for lieing to Reike?

I had no problem with sinking the Force Harvester, or for no longer working with him. It would be stupid to keep doing so. All you're doing is shouting strawman and implying that getting our arm chopped off was a good move.

Did you not read these two posts?
>>45933961
>>45933719
>>
>>45934323
>Because everyone could tell he was trying to justify it so he wouldn't feel shitty about it.
Well, no. German said that this is how Rhys honestly feels about it, from his childhood during the Clone Wars where the Republic destroyed his homeworld and through all of his training in Imperial Academies showing how much firepower the Empire can bring to bear on a target.
Is there a bit of brainwashing? Undoubtedly, and confirmed by German.
But it's also what Rhys honestly believes, even if it is because of some brainwashing.
He isn't lying to himself to make himself feel better.
>>
>>45934308
Obviously

>>45934323

>Rhys crawling back to Reike now would make him a craven coward, cost us all our self respect, and the respect and loyalty of most of our crew. Furthermore it'd encourage Reike and other to abuse us more so we'd stay in line. Because hey if it worked once why not again?

Fucking this.
>>
>>45934317
> It wouldn't do anything that the Empire couldn't have done with base delta zero.
Except it does. It kills off all the life but leaves infrastructure intact. Which would allow the Empire to be a lot more casual about genocide since they wouldn't wreck any infrastructure like they would with base delta zero. Reike told Rhys outright that he would use it on dozens of worlds.
>>
>>45934317
>But apparently that little fact is too much for your poor brain to handle.

You can't even defend your objectively wrong position without insulting. What waste of effort to type that out.

Man, I wished that us discussing shit was something we do every thread instead of the ones where bad shit happens.

So how do we convince the furies to back down?
>>
>>45934308
I'm fine with retiring from the Empire, but I'm not going to do it in the middle of a job.
We finish this job, retire from the Empire, and then go do whatever else we want.
>>
>>45934308
No. Any other employer would have long since killed Rhys for the shit he has pulled. Reike, on the other hand, has been reasonable, fair, and honest. Things only went badly in this thread because you idiots thought it would be a good idea to lie to him on top of cheating him.
>>
>>45934391
>So how do we convince the furies to back down?
Unfortunately, German's last post on the topic indicated that, even though Reike said "either make them give up the pirate schtick, or destroy them completely", the mission requirement is that the Furies be destroyed completely and we messed up any chance on negotiating a peaceful settlement.
>>
>>45934396
We can just send Reike his 20 000 if Rhys retires then he will always be at Reikes call when he decides he wants him back. It's not like Rhys has a reputation of doing his job.
>>
>>45934396
The Job that requires we disband the Furies? Because that's not fucking happening.

>>45934391
That's because we have maybe 5 votes an update unless something shitty happens.
>>
Why couldn't have been breaking up Fili's Busters.

Why the Furies. I blame that anon who kept wanting to see them again.
>>
>>45934421
Yeah I remember the time my fair and reasonable employer cut my arm off.
>>
>>45934317
Oh look false equivalency. One ship with a weapon there is no defense against killing a world in seconds. Base delta zero requires lots of ships, time and ordinance.
It's basically Hair trigger lol kill everyone because I don't like them, versus a committed plan that costs time and resources that should be thought over carefully. Furthermore they get all the nice odds and ends on the planet for themselves with no destruction.
>>45934347
The lying is dumb, but the die is cast. Keeping working for them now would require the death of every bit of Rhys that's likable. He's be a coward, craven, whipped and without a will of his own. He'd lose his self worth, and most of his crew.

>>45934391
Short answer, we can't. Reike wants them disbanded, gone, finished, no more. The furies won't go for it, so this is a fools errand.

>>45934421
So be an emotionless whipped coward, crawling back to the man who crippled us and told us we were more or less his bitch? Brilliant.
>>
>>45934421
Look whats done is done but if Rhys has any dignity or better yet balls he won't serve Reike.
>>
>>45934441
If you betrayed him and cheated him and lied to him like Rhys does, stopping at your arm would be more than fair and reasonable. It would be downright generous.

>>45934449
and all because we decided to lie to a man at the wrong time.

I don't know what sort of a person is such a coward that they would serve a person who is okay with killing billions and mutilates them it doesn't matter what Rhys did he shouldn't serve Reike. If you are okay with your boss threatening you and cutting off your arm they you need to grow a pair.

Which wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the lying. German flat out said this, learn to read or get the fuck out.
>>
>>45934505
>>45934521
Learn to resist nothing Reike wanted Rhys to do was okay he wanted weapons to kill entire worlds its more than a job. Rhys isn't a cold hearted killer and shouldn't be an accomplice. When someone attacks you fight back if Rhys has brains he will leave.
>>
>>45934531
If the Soviets had resisted fought back like they did against the tsar then the world would be a better place.

>>
>>45934556
Fuck off and learn English. Maybe that's why you people thought that lying to Reike was a good idea. You're just completely illiterate.
>>
>>45934571
They did, they were called the Hiwis, and the Whites Russians
>>
>>45934554
>Not us so fuck them
Except that's clearly not how Rhys thinks as has been established by the playerbase over and over, and over.

But hey keep hoping for a sociopath or psychopath.
>>
>>45934554
>>45934576
So you're k with being a little bitch? I hope you're fine with losing our crew and Rhys dying alone unmourned by anyone. Because literally shutting down your entire conscience, letting fear control all your actions, willfully being the bitch of someone who cut off your arm leads to that. Because at that point no one will respect him, no one will like him, and no one will look out for him.
>>
>>45934612
Just stop it's not even worth posting anymore. They're too in love with their Reike waifu and the idea of sociopath Rhys to think.
>>
>>45934554
But it did happen, lying or not Reike cut off Rhys arm.
>>45934576
I still say it wasn't reasonable to the person getting their arm chopped off
>>45934589
I can clearly read and use english you simply lack the basic humanity to get what i am saying. if someone cuts off your arm do you thank them? if you say yes you are a coward. you can't argue my points so you resort to insults go back to /pol/ .
>>
>>45934556
Do you not understand how to use comma's, or to properly form sentences for clarity?
Is English a second or third language for you?

And actually, Rhys IS a killer, as long as the price is right, and especially if the target isn't human.
We killed people who were just protecting their homes because there was a big payday in it for us, and that wasn't on anyone's order, either.

Wanting to end our employ with Reike is perfectly fine, and something I even agree with.
But I don't agree with your reason for ending the employment.
>>
>>45934627
"B-but it's the smart thing and Reike is muh waifu...."
>>
>Empire fags actually defending this degree of stupidity

Lotte is a shitty waifu desu. We should seduce Mothma instead.
>>
>>45934627
>So you're k with being a little bitch?
Putting words in other people's mouths, or bashing barely legible shit into your keyboard doesn't make you right. I'm talking about how Reike has had every reason to kill Rhys for being a shitty employee and hasn't, despite us betraying him several times and lying to his face. We're not going to work with him anymore (almost certainly) but your ability to ignore what people are saying is impressive. I shouldn't be bothering.

>>45934642
>I still say it wasn't reasonable to the person getting their arm chopped off
No ones arguing that, having an arm chopped off would suck.
>>
>>45934671
Reike is the waifu now, we can't stop going back to him so he can put his dick in our mouth.

Look, do you understand the difference between thanking a person for a injury inflicted on you, and understanding that the infliction of said injury was in direct retaliation for injuries and setbacks you committed?

No one is arguing that Rhys should thank Reike for cutting off his arm; point to the post that even implies such a thing should be done if you are so adamant that it should be a point of argument.

But it was an understable, and given the circumstances, restrained response by Reike to only take an arm. Given the amount of wilful sabotage that Rhys has committed, Reike would have been well within his rights to simply have Rhys executed. Any other previous employer that Rhys worked for would have done the same, or worse, if Rhys had betrayed them so.

>>45934704
Because the need to emphasize specific information outweighed grammatical rules, especially as it was for the sake of clarity.
A pronounced lack of commas and the formation of sentences with terrible structure that impedes ease of reading and understanding over the course of several posts does not compare to a single instance of "is" being capitalized.
>>
>>45934760
What year is that though? Cause by 4 ABY she didn't look that good.

You have high hopes there.

Not him but the general implication seems to be, "Keep working for the admiral! I know he took the arm, tough luck, but solider on for the Empire!"

That's absolutely insane. If someone cuts off your arm you don't tough it out and keep working for them.

Yes, so long as they're not in the way of a massive payday, especially if the people he has to kill aren't Human or near-Human.
>>
>>45934770
Under these circumstances would you be okay with someone cutting off your arm? Would you then continue working for them? Do you want to be owned?
>>
>>45934832
That's pretty harsh man. Rhys isn't that old. That's like.. English hot. Not rest of the free world hot.
>>
>>45934829
No, you only think that's the implication because you're a moron. The argument is that taking the arm was a reasonable response, and we should keep working for him because a reasonable employer who reacts to Rhys' treachery in such a restrained way is a good thing.
>>
>>45934847
I wouldn't have lied to him, so it wouldn't have been an issue.
>>
>>45934875
Diffdrent anon but i am of the opinion that we do this one last job.

Then retire. For one because if we dont get the furies squared away, he'll send someone else. Two, hes holding on to our cash.

His implication was entirely correct, keep sucking that good 'ol Reike dick anon.
>>
>>45934839
You are to dense to get this but we are arguing from morality from the human reaction. Rhys isn't a robot but look up moral philosophy and empathy they may help you get it.
>>45934899
You would suck his dick as he cut it off and thank him for his mercy.
>>
>>45934909
>For one because if we dont get the furies squared away

We're retiring without the money then because Rhys, in character, likes the Furies. He may try to get them to stop but it's a fool's errand.
>>
>>45934875
So you want to be his bitch then. Gotcha. Hope you like have no crew, no friends outside the empire, and getting render totally useless and being disposed of in short order. Because no one will like or respect a coward with no will of his own or balls. They'll abandon him and then Reike will do away with him because he's no longer useful.
>>
>>45934932

We basically just need to get them a long term security contract. That'll stop the raiding.
>>
>>45934932
Rhys likes money more. But since you clearly haven't been able to understand English well enough to get that, talking with you is pointless.
>>
>>45934875

The only difference is that there is no for the empire. It's just, "Well all we have to do is tow the line properly!"

Rhys does not operate by the admirals standards. They have different moral compasses. If Rhys keeps working for him... he'll end up dead.

If you're the guy who keeps toting rationality what do you honestly believe will happen if Rhys continues to attempt to work for Rieke? Because it's not sunshine and rainbows.

>>45934948
Do you believe the Furies will sell out like that?
>>
>>45934847
Under these circumstances I want to retire because of that 20 million credit bank account that's waiting for us after this job.

Am I okay with losing an arm?
Of course not, but I recognize that I backstabbed this man 3 times already, and instead of being spaced or vaporized like I would have done or any other criminal employer, he only took an arm that's already been replaced.

Would I continue working for them?
It's one last job for them, before I can retire. And if I don't do this and try to find a way to get the Furies out without them all dying, someone else, like IG-88 or Bobba Fett, will get sent in to kill them all.

Do I want to be owned?
I originally went into this deal understanding that I'd be owned by the Empire. In return I was promised a Flight Instructor position, a job as a Test Pilot flying the most bleeding edge fighters that the Empire is developing, and a mountain of credits.
The first two items were (to Rhys because of his love of high speed flying) enough to accept being owned again.
But now that our relationship has soured, those first two options no longer look to be on the table, so I'll take the credits and leave.
>>
>>45934948
Nope. Reike wants them gone. Disbanded, finished, dissolved, no more.

>>45934949

And shooting up the Killiks in order to plunder their sacred areas was a moral thing to do?
All of the circles that Rhys runs in have different moral codes and standards.
As an example, the Furies execute people who surrender as a matter of course.
>>
>>45935016
>Rhys' crews' safety and his freedom are worth more than the money; we can always make more. It's better to stick with the Furies.
Actually, very unlikely to make as much as we'd be throwing away.
If we can't find a way to make the Furies no longer be a problem without killing them all, I'd choose failing the job, but it wouldn't be a choice that I'd make lightly, or without at least trying to find some alternative like having the Furies disappear into Wild Space and prey on the Hapes Cluster instead.

>I just couldn't see myself like that, I doubt we could agree ever.
>Good discussion, it was fun. I will argue with you next thread, I am sure, and I look forward to it.
The whole thing about being "owned" is more complex than just a simple "yes" or "no".
Rhys liked being in the Empire, he loves flying, and part of the deal for working for Reike was that he would get Rhys a job as an Imperial Test Pilot.
Such a job implies, by its very nature, that the Empire would own Rhys, and he accepted that offer with all of the strings that were implied to be attached to it.

Balking now at being told that we're owned when we accepted a deal weeks ago that would make us a government employee of a fascist regime again seems disingenuous.
