Taking a seat by Zahak, you shortly find yourself swaddled in one of his vast, leathery wings. It seems as though, as he's grown older, the heat he gives off is no longer quite so scalding. On the other hand, you may simply be getting used to it. {I was thinking I'd introduce you to Nature magic. You seem to have an innate talent for it, considering we've been using it since before you even hatched to communicate with one another. For now I'd like us to focus on the differences between the brooch I wear to communicate with my companions, and the natural connection that you and I seem to share as father and son.}

Confusion muddles the warm sense of affection radiating off of Zahak and he raises his head from the plush cushions scattered throughout your sisters foyer, twisting such that he can actually look at you. {You mean that not everyone communicates the same way we do?}

Tentatively you focus upon what memories you have relating to the brooches, and the various conversations you've had over them. You try to bring the ghost of these sensations to the forefront of your thoughts in the hopes that Zahak might glean something from them, though you can't speak to your success. {No, in fact most people cannot communicate without the use of speech, that is to say without vocalizing.}

Your son seems to ruminate upon this new revelation, his head settling heavily upon the pillows piled up beneath him. Before he can grow lost in thought you interrupt. {Why don't we begin meditating and I'll do my best to instill upon you my own understanding of the brooches? That should suffice for our current purposes, you should really only need a basic understanding for what I have in mind.}
(1/3)
>>
Zahak accepts this without complaint, and slowly his frantic thoughts begin to still. You allow your own consciousness to slip away, the beating of your heart as well as the rhythmic pounding of Zahak's own drowning out the sounds of the estate. Through your mind's eye you become aware of the ebb and flow of ambient vys, noting the dense concentrations that marked the forms of your sister's household.

As the ebb and flow of ambient vys fades away, your breathing slows and your muscles relax. You sink deeper into your trance, the endless expanss of black suddenly illuminated by uncountable points of light. Zahak's soul blazes as a sun in miniature, an angry red in comparison to the gleaming gold of your own. You note, with some mild curiosity, that a ripple runs across the metallic surface of your divine core. A ripple which is mirrored on a larger scale on the surface of Zahak's soul.

Your trance grows deeper still, and gradually the pinpricks of light begin to wink out as they're replaced instead by the tightly woven strands which bind together and give shape to the mortal realm. Only when the world has been reduced to yourself and your son do you finally begin to focus on your task, examining the connection you share with Zahak.

It immediately becomes clear that something is amiss. Normally the threads of reality run more or less directly up and down, with deviation being introduced by the souls of mortals, and presumably by spirits. You've never seen these distorted threads touch one another, though you have seen them take on the shape of other distorted threads when using the brooches.
(2/3)
>>
However, the threads distorted by your own soul and Zahak's have intertwined quite inseperably, at least upon first glance. As you study them in greater depth, you realize they could be fairly easily unraveled simply by 'tugging' on one end, though how on Earth you might go about this remains a mystery. You try channeling vys into the strands which have so closely interwoven themselves, but this serves only to tighten the bond, drawing the strands closer.

Though this does draw your attention to something curious, though the strands amy get very close to one another they never seem to actually touch, merely surround one another. You also note that only two strands are engaged with one another, one seemingly under the influence of your soul, and the other under the influence of Zahaks. You get the impression he's beginning to realize the same thing you are, and as you feel his thoughts intrude upon your own, the interwoven strands finally touch.

If, as you suspect, all dragons are capable of telepathic communication, and if all dragons communicate via the same methods, you find yourself wondering how they maintain any indivduality at all when surrounded by many of their kin. It would seem as though their mind, if the distorted strands do indeed compose the mind, would be pulled and picked apart until little remained that was unique to them.

You try something different, this time channeling Nature magic. Suddenly the strands feel as though an extension of yourself, as naturally linked to you as your limbs. This control over the strands seems mirrored by control over the surface of your soul, and as you slowly begin to unravel your mind from Zahak's, the ripple cutting across the soul's surface fades as well. By the time you've separated all but the most tenuous of connections, your soul once more resembles an undisturbed sphere.
(3/3)
>>
Cutting the flow of vys causes the strands to immediately twist themselves together, perhaps more desperately than before. Fear floods your thoughts, and it occurs to you that Zahak was probably unaccustomed to the lack of another's thoughts muddling his own. You sooth him as best you're able, focussing on your affection for your draconic son, and his mind stills. The onset of calm is mirrored metaphysically by a lack of vibration in the threads which compose his mind, which earlier had been shaking so hard you thought they might snap.

Once more channeling vys, you instead cast out one of the other strands as an experiment. You feel it alight upon another individual's mind, and immediately a third figure appears out of the blackness. The quiver of the threads distorted around them gives away their anxiety, and you're able to discern a very real sense of fear from only the briefest of contacts with their surface thoughts.

Curious, you channel yet more vys and try to dig beyond mere surface thoughts, but instead you find yourself peering up at your sister. Words escape your mouth unbidden, spoken in a voice that is not your own. “-the greatest trial I faced was boredom, and of course the injury to my pride. If I had simply accepted father's advice instead of running off, none of this would have happened.”

Your sister pulls you into a tight hug, and though consciously you realize that you are perceiving the world through the senses of your niece, it feels so unbelievably real. You can't even begin to imagining maintaining this level of awareness from several different viewpoints at once.
(4/3)
>>
Cutting the flow of vys returns you to the blackness of your trance, and you feel as though finally you have achieved some true understanding of Nature magic. It is the element most concerned with the mind, and you would be willing to guess that with the proper study, it might also be the element most concerned with the direct manipulation of reality.

You allow yourself to return to the waking world, slowly withdrawing from your trance even as you gather ambient vys to replenish your reserves. After a time, you manage to pry your eyes open and find yourself in a darkened room, the braziers having either burned out or been extinguished at some point during the course of your meditation. Zahak is either still deep within his trance or has fallen asleep, though you remain enfolded within one of his leathery wings.

The clog was rather specifically the result of you using both the armor (which you weren't ready for) and the meditation poultice (which just has bad side effects in general) together. Using either independently won't clog your vys.

Zahak has you firmly trapped against his flank, but you manage to slip free of his grasp by ducking under rather than climbing over. It requires some wriggling on your part, and you have to be careful not to damage the delicate membrane, but you emerge from underneath your adoptive son unscathed. He seems undisturbed by your absence, sleeping peacefully as you make your way over to the couch where earlier you'd sat with your sister and your niece.

You stretch out across the cushions, channeling just a touch of vys to light a brazier hanging some short distance away. It doesn't provide much light, but it should be enough to read by at least. Reaching into your cloak, you retrieve what few notes you have left from the Varistha. You're starting to wonder if these aren't simply the leavings he had scattered about after finishing his memoirs, so far you've found little of value while digging through them.

Regardless shuffle through the loose sheafs of parchment and paper until you find the portion you'd last left off on. Many of hte remaining pages were composed of what seemed to be a handful of journal entries, likely dating form the interim period between the collapse of Rhynia and the Fall of Hiacia, judging by the fact that he mentions fighting in the wars previously but doesn't make any mention of an aborted god rampaging across the Hiacian heartland.

Briefly reading through the last few pages to remind yourself of their contents, you find that Varistha Sehzade had only recently been transfered to a temple in Marqash, and that he was quite dissassitifed with the way the monks were treating him. He goes into some detail regarding how he wishes to sodomize them with their own disembodied limbs before moving on to more palatable topics.

(1/2)
>>
It's only been, what, 2 weeks since last thread? What's another 2 hours?
>>
He starts to discuss the library in Marqash, and its vast selection. Sehzade claims that he would lock himself inside for days to read, and he writes at some length about how the ideas he's been exposed to have influenced him. For instance, he puts forward the notion that perhaps the schools of elemental magic are simply arbitrary divisions, an idea apparently quite novel for the Varistha at the time. He likewise claims to have taken up the study of Enchanting, but claims to be having trouble with it.

Apparently, the Satrap's Library once contained an entire section dedicated to the process of enchanting, which the Varistha attempted to make full use of with little success. He claims to have tried to discern the rune for fire via meditation, but could not interpret what little information he was able to glean while deep within a trance. He correctly identifies the golden strings as that which binds reality together, but as they contorted themselves before him he was not able to grasp what separated fire from wax and air.

The Varistha claims to have given up on enchanting, and moved on to more 'practical' fields of study. You wonder if any of these books on Enchanting still lie forgotten within the Satrap's Palace, gathering dust in some forgotten bookshelf tucked away in a corner somewhere.

The next entry seems to be detailing the Varistha's struggle with an addiction to Spice. Apparently he had been cut off from his regular supply, for whatever reason, and was beginning to feel a powerful craving. More than that, he was beginning to see and hear things that he knew weren't real. He offers an example, stating that whilst he was walking back to the temple the ground beneath his feet seemed to drop away, and in an instant he found himself surrounded by the denizens of the void, whom he claims to have fought during a breach caused by a Rhynian enchanter.
(2/2)
>>
They leaped at him, trying to tear away at his flesh, but the Varistha knew that they were not real. He could tell, thanks to his understanding of Nature magic, that they lacked a core and knew that no void creature could survive for long in the mortal realm without a core. Thus as they tore at him, he remained calm despite the pain and continued walking.

Sehzade seems more disturbed by the voices than he is by the visions. They would appear at first in the guise of his own idle thoughts, but always they would take a dark turn. Often they insinuated a woman the Varistha was seeing wasn't being faithful, and though there was an abundance of evidence to the contrary Sehzade still found himself increasingly detatched from her. He claims that the voices were trying to slowly wrest control of his mind from him, to turn him into their puppet, and several times mentions his willingness to kill himself if they were to grow too influential.

You find yourself worrying after Profectus, whom you have yet to hear back from despite the fact he seemed upon the cusp of waking when you left Nazir.

The next journal entry seems to have taken place quite some time later, as the writing has improved and no longer does Sehzade seem quite so obsessed with Spice. Instead, he's discussing a recent conspiracy he's become privy too regarding one of the gods who died during Pani's conflict with Surya, as he puts it. It sounds as though he's describing Prthvi, as he claims that the god was an ally of Pani who was struck down by his lover, a tale that Varistha claims he's able to sympathize with, though he doesn't elaborate on why that is.

WHAT IS THIS

>>45950578

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SOMA
>>
Sehzade's notes go into some detail regarding the plans of this conspiracy, they plan to ressurect the god in all his glory to reign at Pani's side, as he was clearly meant to. The Varistha even states his desire to join this cult, though you're nearly certain that the conspiracy he's discussing is the very same that ultimately caused the collapse of Hiacia with their aborted ritual. You wonder, could the Varistha's concern regarding the Entity you had trapped in your head have been of a more personal nature? Could he have experienced it himself?

Your thoughts are interrupted by a young boy, probably no more than sixteen, clearing his throat. He is Samjan, but wears the white robes of a slave. He seems reluctant to actually enter the room, his focus is largely upon Zahak even though it's you he's addressing. “Bread and mulled wine are availble if you'd like, Grandmaster Mikhael.”

Mik isn't wholly certain what time of day it is, there's no windows in his brother-in-law's estate. However, if the slaves are only just now beginning their day, then it's probably around dawn or just before. (So probably around 6 AM).

Mik could probably manage to eat breakfast and make a trip to the palace, and make it back to Nazir assuming he doesn't get side tracked, but he'd be returning to Nazir late in the evening and he might not make it back today.

You consider staying for breakfast, but reading the Varistha's notes has sparked your curiosity, and it's not like you'll have an opportunity like this again. You probably won't be visiting Marqash again for months, if not years. “I don't think that will be necessary, I'll be visiting the palace to take advantage of the library there and I'll eat while I'm out. If you would, look after Zahak for me while I'm gone. If he wakes up, tell him I'll be back shortly and that he shouldn't worry.”

As you're tucking the notes back into your cloak, the slave speaks. “Uh... Grandmaster, who is Zahak? It was my understanding that you arrived only with Mistress Safiyyah and Nithya.”

Turning towards the boy you smile politely. “How rude of me, I've neglected to introduce you.” With an elaborate gesture you indicat the slumbering dragon dominating one corner of the room. “Please, meet my son Zahak. I hatched him myself, and I've raised him as my own ever since. Do try to keep him entertained, he can grow rather destructive when he's bored.”

With that you turn sharply on your heels and march towards the door, leaving the slave to cower at the stairs. You were partially joking, but Zahak really does have a tendency to grow reckless and destructive when he lacks for entertainment. Hopefully he won't cause any signifcant damage to your brother-in-law's estate.

You exit the fortress-like construction of the estate into the chill morning air. The sun has only just barely begun to crest the horizon and the sky is lit up in brilliant hues of blue and orange, the city itself remains almost pitch black. Only a few streetlights offer any source of light, and they're few and far between. The fact that a thick fog has settled over the canals does nothing to help matters.

Yet the city is already alive with activity. The sound of a hammer pounding against metal rings dimly through the city, and the canals are choked with those flat-bottomed rafts going about their business, carrying with them their wealthy passengers. You make your way towards the docks at the end of a short stone walkway, which you note has been repaired since yesterday when Zahak cracked it with his landing.

It takes no more than a brief conversation with a guard to summon a boat, and you climb in with perhaps undue caution. You've never been in a boat this small, it seems as though it ought to be unstable. Fortunately that doesn't prove to be the case, and you're able to propell it foward rather effortlessly, much to the confusion of the pilot.

You catch the scent of baking bread as you glide across the water, overriding the usual stench of the city. It's enough to remind you that the last time you ate was breakfast the day before, and suddenly you regret turning down the slave's offer. However, you console yourself with promises of a feast once you reach the Satrap's palace.

The raft finally glides to a halt just beyond the palace docks, the tops of the various statues which compose the palace gardens just visible over the high walls surrounding the palace. Negotiating for a place to moor the craft actually takes longer than reaching the palace did, and eventually you grow tired of the constant jostling. Channeling vys, you stop simply create a space for your boat to moor. Sure it requires sinking someone else's boat, but they can probably just afford to buy another.

As you step onto the wooden docks, ordering the pilot to wait for you here, it occurs to you that you don't actually know where the library is within the palace. The Marble Palace is without a doubt very large, and if the library is as large as you've heard it will probably be housed within one of the buildings surrounding the palace, rather than within the palace itself.

How hard could it really be to find the library? From what you've heard it's supposed to be massive, second only to the Grand Library of El-Amin, and the Grand Library dominated the skyline before the construction of the Shah's new fortress in the former East Slums. A quick scan of the palace grounds points you towards one building in particular that seems larger and more elaborate than the other outbuildings flanking the palace, and you set off through the water garden to reach it.

Unfortunately that proves to be a more difficult task than you initially thought. The gardens are set well below the actual palace grounds, so you have to scale a wide flight of stairs to reach what you thought would be the library's courtyard. Instead you find yourself in some manner of outer courtyard where a number of nobles, judging by their robes, are enjoying their mornings. Your access to the library is cut off by a high wall.

Stealing a plate from a passing servant, you continue on your way in search of some access to the building. The plate, you find, is arrayed with several pieces of pama bread stacked high with feta cheese and various types of preserves. You've always loved pama bread. It's a very thin unleavened bread which carries with it a hint of salt. What you've always loved about it though is the texture. There's just a slight chewiness to it that you've always enjoyed, and it holds together so well no matter what you stack on top of it.

The preserves seem to range from figs, to some manner of berry you can't immediately identify, to dates, and peaches. One in particular is slathered with lemon preserves, which you don't favor. They're much too tart in your mind, and the bitterness of the cheese does little to balance out the overbearing sourness of the lemon.
(1/2)
>>
You've very nearly cleaned your plate by the time you've made a full circuit of what you believe to be the library, but as far as you can tell there's no actual entrance. You can hear voices from the other side of the wall so you know there must be some way to get in, but it has yet to reveal itself to you. Perhaps it can only be accessed via the palace proper?

You drag aside a slave as she dashes past, a pot of tea held in hand. She very nearly drops it, and would have spilled the hot tea all over her robes had you not had the forethought to suspend it in midair, slowly guiding it back into the pot. “Excuse me, I'm looking for the Satrap's Library. Do you think you might show me the way?”

Her response is to stare at you confused, and perhaps just slightly annoyed. “You'll either have to get a token from Satrap Farouk, or you'll have to scale the walls. Personally though, I've never seen anyone either enter or leave that forsaken place.”

You peer up at the walls, and the row of iron spikes which crown them. Honestly, you should be able to scale them fairly easily with a bit of Earth magic, you only worry they might be enchanted. Certainly, if you require a token of some sort just to access the library, there must be at least minor enchantments upon the walls.

>You have the Satrap's favor at the moment, surely he'd permit you access if you only ask.

Briefly thanking the slave for her assistance, you approach the walls and try to get an idea of their height. If you had to guess, they're probably about five or six meters tall, certainly nothing unmanageable. Taking a few steps back you start channeling vys, pulling moisture from the air to assemble a rough staircase rising just above the height of the wall. With the air as saturated as it is with moisture, it's a relatively simple task that you complete quickly and efficiently, taking advantage of the structural integrity offered by an arch to ensure it doesn't crack under your weight.

However, you run into a bit of an issue. Try as you might, you can't manage to pull any moisture from the air on the other side of the wall. It's frustrating, because you know you're properly manipulating the vys but for whatever reason your efforts offer no results. It bodes ill for your chances of actually getting over the wall, but suppressing your growing hesitation you begin to climb the stairs.

You stand upon the precipice, looking down into the courtyard below. A number of vatis have gathered around a fountain in the center of the courtyard to enjoy their breakfast, chatting amicably. None seem to have noticed you, though there is a man standing by the doorway eyeing you suspiciously. It seems the library has few patrons at this hour, which bodes well for you. There will be no need to jostle with others over the selection.

>>
Just as your foot crosses the threshold, passing into what constitutes the library's grounds, you see dozens of runic arrays flare to life along the inside of the wall. You only manage a glimpse of them before you're standing instead within the hollow of one of the stairwell's arches, staring into the opaque surface of an icy pillar. A brief inspection reveals that everything remains intact, whatever that enchantment did, it didn't seem to harm you. However, you doubt you'll be able to simply walk over the top of the wall.

You suppose you'll be forced to actually speak with the Satrap, much as you're loathe to subject yourself to the whims of court. You've never actually attended court as a participant, though you spent much of your first year as a full fledged Vatis in and around the palace, tending the gardens. Degrading as it may have been to work as a glorified groundskeeper, it did provide you plenty of opportunities to observe the daily life of a courtier, and you can say with confidence that you would rather gauge out your eyes than live such a vacuous existence.

Fortunately, getting from the library's walls to the courtyard where the Satrap held your audience the night before is a fairly simple task. You enter through a set of double doors into the grand chambers you passed through on your first visit to the palace, the ceiling's vaulted arches carved with elaborate geometric designs intended to draw the eye ever upwards, to the figures carved into the center of each recess in the ceiling. They seem to alternate between a bare chested Pani, her four arms spread wide in a welcoming embrace, and the typically enraged Surya, his great maw opened wide to consume the souls of mortals.

You end up briefly getting lost amidst the veritable forest of marble pillars before eventually stumbling upon the main thoroughfare through the center of the grand gallery, and this leads you directly to the audience chamber's grand golden doors. You find a crowd of nobles gathered just outside, and note an unusual preponderance of young men and women. Some are certainly no more than twelve years old, and you'd caution a guess that a rare few are even younger.

In fact, you don't see a single person older than eighteen or nineteen, save for the palace guards standing on either side of the golden gates. Perhaps there's some sort of ceremony taking place today? Something to do with marriages or betrothals, you'd guess. Regardless you shoulder your way through the crowd of youths, much to the annoyance of one boy in particular who dares to draw a dagger upon his better.

He opens his mouth to shout some inane blather, but you silence him with a wave. The dagger is likewise jerked free of his hand, drifting lazily into your own. It's a fine thing, with an ivory hilt and a gold inlay through the center of the blade, but not exactly practical. You barely have to exert yourself at all to bend the steel, twisting it into a loose knot and tossing it at the boy's feet before continuing on your way without a word.

You don't have to shoulder your way past anyone else after that. They recede before you as the tide before a wave. So too do the guards permit you entry without complaint, likely the work of your brother-in-law. Inside you find the Satrap and a woman you presume to be his wife, or perhaps his mother, in conversation. You catch the word 'ceremony' before they stop themselves short, attention turning to you as the great golden gates slowly swing closed.

You bow low, touching two fingers first to your forehead and then to your chest. “My apologies if I've disturbed you, Satrap Farouk. I've long been told that the Satrap's Library is second only to the Grand Library. I was hoping to investigate these claims for myself, but I was informed I'd first need to seek a token of your favor.”

Farouk and the woman share a glance, before the former steps forward to address you. “You're mistaken, Mikhael. My library does not merely rival the Grand Library in El-Amin. It is equal, if not superior, in every quantifiable way.” Except size, age, and collection quality. Of course you keep those thoughts to yourself. “Typically access is granted to any Vatis who earns their Master's robes, but so far as I'm aware you've yet to do so. Either here or in El-Amin.

Should we solidify our war game business before expanding our investments into other large markets?
Since, once established, our initial success will flood into the other startups. Then we can suggest to whichever family members find those areas best suited for them to aid in managing and expanding them as part of the family businesses.

An exciting new magical possibility has been revealed!

Chryssa's recent purchase was an artifact that allows her to temporarily trap the souls of the recently deceased. The stated purpose of this was for posthumous interrogation. However, it may be possible to achieve more with this artifact. In the past, we have taken the soul of a recently deceased soldier and re-inserted it into a body. This was possible due to a large void rift delaying the passage of souls into the next world. Chryssa's soul-trapping mask may be able to replicate this effect, allowing us to pursue further research into unbound soul manipulation, resurrection, and soul transference.

You fold your hands within the sleeves of your black robes, the silver sash serving as a sharp contrast to the rest of your largely stygian outfit. “With all due respect, honorable Satrap, I'm already a Grandmaster, and a Master several times over. I earned my purple robes at the Academy of Anthus, and were it not for the politically sensitive matter of my impending unbanishment, I would have earned them in El-Amin as well.”

The Satrap smiles apologetically. “I have no doubts as to your skill, I imagine one cannot keep a dragon in line without commanding its respect. However, Anthus is at heart a human city, and I have little faith in the ability of its institutions to discern true talent from merely luck or guile. If I were going to stand on ceremony, I would be forced to deny you access.”

You make note of her phrasing. “If you were going to stand on ceremony, Satrap. Perhaps I might offer a demonstration of my talents? Surely then you will understand that I am more than worthy to access the library.”

Farouk raises an eyebrow, his curiosity evidently peaked. “What did you have in mind, Mikhael?”

You channel vys, and suddenly you can no longer feel your face. The skin grows waxy and cold, deadened to the outside world, and all at once your flesh simply sloughs off, falling to the floor with a wet thud. You regrow the muscle first, solely so you could click the teeth in your skinless face before allowing the rest of your flesh to fill back in. The Satrap's wife looks absolutely horrified, and event he Satrap himself seems a little uncomfortable.

Kill Darzi, Chryssa, Mortia and Fulvia then combine their souls and stick it back into Fulvia's old body for the ultimate waifu.
>>
It only takes a few seconds for your face to finish regrowing, the remnants of your old face sitting as a semi-gelatinous blob upon the floor of the courtyard. “Was that sufficient? I might also remove a hand, or even a whole arm if you'd like. Losing a limb means little to me.”

Farouk shakes his head, reaching into his pocket and retrieving a large coin. “I think that will quite suffice, Mikhael. Assuming of course you'll be so kind as to remove the chunk of your rotting flesh from my floor.”

With a wave of your hand, flame erupts upon the surface of your former skin, and it's burned to ash in short order. Even this ash is eroded away to nothing with a little bit of Earth magic, though you note that now the courtyard smells like burnt flesh. Well, nobody's perfect.

The Satrap flips the coin towards you, and the very moment your hand closes around the metal disk you find yourself standing at the end of the library courtyard, an elaborate runic away glowing dimly beneath your feet. There are six or seven different pairs of eyes on your right now, but you're too busy inspecting the coin to concern yourself with them. The center is gold, but the outer band is silver, and the enraged face of a three-eyed Surya is carved at the bottom edge of the golden coin, the same depiction on each side and always three rubies embedded in the metal to serve as the carving's eyes.
(2/3)
>>
It's a curious little thing, which make sure to tuck safely beyond the event horizon of your cloak. Turning your attention fully to the library you wonder if you ought to make your introductions to the gathered Vatis, each in the red-trimmed golden robes of a Master.

You step forward, out of the runic circle, and it fades once more from sight. You wonder if the Grand Library is this heavily enchanted too, or if Marqash was simply host to a larger than average population of enchanters in its day. Regardless, you turn your attention to the men and women spectating your arrival, offering them a low bow in greeting. “I am Mikhael of the house Abdul-Hakim. You'll forbid my intrusion, but I was curious to know whether any areas of the library were closed off, abandoned, or had otherwise fallen to disuse.”

The mixed group of men and women gathered around the fountain seem to debate the matter internally, some claiming to have heard rumors of an underground chamber beneath the library, but it's ultimately the man standing separate from the others by the library's doors, the same man that earlier spotted your attempts to surmount the wall, who answers. “You'll find the librarian's quarters several centuries abandoned. We haven't had need to fill the post since the last one died. It will be up the stairs on the right when you reach the main foyer.”

He looks to be quite a bit older than his colleagues, though he still only wears the robes of a Master. That being said, his robes are rather unorthodox. Though ornamented prominently with the red and gold that befits his status, they seem to have been worked in with some sort of armor, crafted from Palaka hide no less. You also note that much of his left arm is dominated by a sleeve of what you'd guess at a glance is Elaudian steel, though you have no way of proving this notion. You feel it would be a safe to say that this man's done some adventuring.

You step past the grouping of younger Vatis, though all of them older than yourself, and bow your head in thanks to the man by the door. “I'll begin my search there, then. Perhaps I'll discover more as I search the grounds.”

As you step past him, entering the library proper, you him mumble. “Good luck.” You're not sure why, but something about his tone sets you ill at ease, and when you glance over your shoulder you find him watching you with a scowl. No doubt you'll need to keep your senses open to the world around you.
