You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Currently, you were back at Eridanus Station, waiting for the vast amount of data Lida had pulled from the Trade Guild's servers to be processed so that you could find the source of an exotic shellfish smuggling ring. The techies told you that the decryption alone could take hours, and then they'd have to actually sift through the data to find what you were looking for.

Obviously, that meant a lot of waiting.

"Captain, if I may suggest, perhaps this would be a good time to give the crew leave time?" Bradford suggests, seeing the troubled look on your face. "It'll be a refreshing change of pace from just waiting on the ship."

He did have a point. Even though the Gullinbursti's crew compliment was fairly small thanks to automation, you still had a good hundred or so men or women to look after and had their own needs.

>No. I want the crew ready and waiting to go.
>All right, but they're restricted to the station only.
>I guess I can let them go dirtside.

"Whatever you say." You shrug. "More booze for me!"

"Captain, frankly speaking, we all know that you're TERRIBLE" Bradford shakes his head and sighs "Can you please try to moderate yourself this time?"

"I can't give you any promises." You chuckle as you head out of the bridge.

Already, you notice that the ship is a lot emptier than it usually was. Looks like word of the leave spread quicker than you thought. Even your own bridge crew, save Bradford, is practically nowhere to be found. You trust that they'd all be mature enough to take care of themselves as you move through the halls of Eridanus Station. THIS time, you make sure to get proper directions so as not to get lost.

The station's bar, called the Crater, looked pretty similar to most Accord architecture. Sterile, white, with lots of smooth surfaces and rounded edges. It was made to look as inviting and nonthreatening as possible, which were odd things to try to emphasize in an establishment that served alcohol. Nevertheless, you could see quite a few patrons milling about, all bearing the uniform of a ship's captain...

Like. WHAT.

Your curiosity gets the better of you and you sit next to the girl, unable to stop from staring at her.

"Ohoho, new girl, right?" The girl chuckles smugly. "Welcome to the Frontier, Captain...?"

"Samantha Wellings, of the Gullinbursti." You introduce yourself. "And you are..."

"Something tells me you're not a normal girl." You frown.

"Ten points!" Molly giggles. "Wanna know why?"

"Well, yes." You admit.

"It's kinda a long story, but long story short, a certain company did certain experiments, namely accelerating brain development so people could learn faster. Problem is, the process only worked when the brain wasn't fully mature yet. So... you now have a girl with a 15 year old body and a 30 year old brain? Isn't science great?"

Oh dear god, a girl like this would be Natalia's WET DREAM. She could never find out about this! NEVER.

"Ha, that's certainly... interesting." You frown. "But why this line of work?"

"Well, not many companies are willing to put a child genius on the payroll, even if her IQ is off the charts." Molly shrugs. "And well, I heard the Accord Navy was willing to accept anyone. Always needs good ship captains."

"And. are there... well... more people like you?"

"Nope! I'm as special snowflake as it gets!" Molly cackles. "Apparently, subjecting children to brain altering experiments didn't jive well the shareholders and the company couldn't really find a way to market it, so they shelved the project."

Good. Natalia must never find out about it.

"Well, I guess that sounds... somewhat believable." You admit. "So uh, just a heads up, if my ships doctor, Natalia asks, you don't say any of that to her."

"Hm? Why?" Molly blinks.

"Mad scientist type."

"Aaaaaah." Molly nods. "I understand. I'll just be my cheerful girly self, then!"

"Do... do the others here know?" You motion to the other captains present.

"Of course! I've been out here for what, three, four years? That practically makes me your senior!" Molly grins at the irony.

"So, got any current missions or anything?" Molly asks, her legs still kicking back and forth. Even with the brain of an adult, Molly was still pretty kiddy in subtle ways.

"Oh, just tracking down a smuggling ring." You shrug. It was still odd talking to someone who rightfully should be much younger than you.

"Really? What kind of smuggling?" Molly tilts her head.

"Lobsters."

"Well, I guess I could get used to this." You grin as you pat Molly on the head.

"H-hey! Jeez..." Molly grumbles, but otherwise doesn't do anything to stop you. "I guess it's okay if you do it.... but I'm still the big sister! Got it?"

"Haha, whatever you say!" You chuckle as you finish off your shot.

"Well, I kinda have to be going, but we should like, totally team up sometime! Waste some pirates or Hegemony scum together!" Holly says happily.

"Sure thing. I'll think about it." You promise.

With that, Molly slides off her barstool, gives you a little salute, and saunters out of the bar.

You shift over to the older gentleman. Not geriatric, but definitely well into or even past middle age. He was already balding and had a somewhat regal looking white beard. He's carefully rocking a glass of scotch in his gloved hand as he turns to you.

"Ah, you must be the new transfer." He smiles warmly. "Captain Davos, of the Vergeltung.

"Captain Wellings, of the Gullinbursti." You respond.

"I heard that it's hardly your first day here and you're already on an assignment." Davos says as he swirls his glass around. "I'd have to say, I I've had quite a few experiences with smugglers myself."

Thank god, he at least seemed somewhat normal and not awkward at all to talk to.

"So uh, you look like you've been around for a while." You say, trying not to directly comment on his age.

"Hmmm, I would say I've been out here for about ten years, at least." Davos says wistfully. "I'd say I'm probably the one captain here who's been on the Frontier the longest."

"What about him?" You motion to the older captain, who was pretty much a geriatric at this point.

"Oh, Admiral Wildstar." Davos eyes you as you try to suppress a snicker. "Yes, I know, a somewhat silly name. Anyways, he's only been here a couple of years. Most of his career was in 'civilized' space. You could say his presence out here is his retirement."

"Wait, he's an ADMIRAL!?" You gasp. "What's he doing all the way out here?"

"That, only he knows." Davos takes a careful sip of his drink. "Nobody's really had the nerve to ask him about it."

"I see..."

"Anyways, I've done just about anything you could think of. Fleet engagements, raids, pirate hunting, convoy escort, exploration, and more. There's no shortage of things to do out here." Davos continues. "I heard you're on a smuggling case, right? Mind if I provide a few pointers?"

"Any help is welcome!" You nod rapidly.

"Well, what was the contraband you're tracking? I heard it was some kine of bio-organism..."

"Lobsters." You state simply.

"Aaaaah. Incredibly common on Earth, but an delicacy out this far." Davos nods. "Now, where do you think the lobsters are coming from?"

"Earth, I guess." You frown. "Or one of he other planets where they're being farmed."

"I wouldn't say that." Davos shakes his head. "Given the distance between Earth and the frontier, shipping lobster all that way is prohibitively expensive, and even then if you were buying from legitimate fishers you could be tracked that way. No, what I think is that the lobsters are being raised locally. A planet near or in the frontier that has conditions close enough to support the framing of lobsters. They're then harvested and sold at inflated black market prices for Earth lobster, increasing profits even further."

Man, he really knows his stuff!

"You seem to know quite a lot about this..." You say somewhat suspiciously.

"I suppose I shouldn't try to hide it from you." Davos sighs. "You already have access to enough channels to figure it out on your own anyways, so I'll save you the trouble. Basically, I've not had the cleanest of pasts."

"Criminal?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Now, I wouldn't say that." Davos chuckles darkly. "I was just a simple trader who chose to... selectively ignore certain inconvenient regulations."

"So, a smuggler." You conclude.

"Something like that." Davos concedes.

Ah, that would explain his knowledge on the subject.

"Captain, I think we've cracked the encryption. Come down to the data center when you can." She says calmly.

"Got it, thanks Lida." You answer as you cut the comm.

You decide to sit across from the last captain, in order to try and make your acquaintance with her.

"Um, hi there." You wave a bit. "I'm Captain Wellings. And you are?"

The blue haired captain looks up at you with piercing, judging eyes, her facial expression apparently carved out of steel as she just stare at you stoically for several seconds, as if trying to size you up.

"Captain Richards." The woman says simply, and nothing else, as if she's waiting for you to make the next move.

"Tracking Hegemony ship movements." Captain Richards says simply. "Stopped by to report my findings, but we'll be shipping out soon enough."

"Oh, so, you're like some kind of recon specialist?" You assume.

"Something like that." Richards nods. "My ship specializes in evading enemy sensors and tracking enemy ships. Always useful in figuring out their movements."

"I see..." You nod. "So, that means you've got some kind of stealth ship?"

"Oh come on, we're all on the same side, aren't we?" You say a bit pleadingly.

"Well, I suppose you meet the proper security clearance levels." Richards sighs. "I captain the Flasher, a specialized variant of the Normandy-class destroyer. Incorporates systems specifically designed to hide it from most forms of detection technology, such as energy signature reduction and sensor deflecting materials. It allows us to get much closer to enemy ships and passively track them."

"That's pretty cool." You grin. "Hey um, you don't happen to track any OTHER ships, do you? Like, suspected pirates or smugglers?"

"Hmmmm, well, I did come across a pirate ship. The Lavender Kiss." Richards puts a hand to her chin as she tries to recall the memory. "It was only a momentary contact, though. She was in and out of the system, most likely going through a dummy jump to hide her destination."

The Lavender Kiss... wasn't that he the pirate ship running the smuggling ring?"

"Do you know where it was headed?" You ask, a bit more interested now.

Richards seems to notice this, as her eyebrow raises ever so slightly.

"Oh, you're hunting her?"

"You could say that." You nod. "She' related to a smuggling case I'm prosecuting."

"I see." Richards frowns. "I can transfer the data to you, but you may not like it."

"Why's that?" You ask.

"She jumped into Hegemony space." Richards explains. "If that's where her hideout is located, well, it might be problematic tracking her down."

"Well, thanks for the info anyways." You sigh. "Anyways, I need to be going now. Mission stuff and all."

"Of course." Richard nods. "Until we meet again, I suppose."

"Yeah, until we meet again." You say as you get up and head for the exit. If it weren't for Molly, you'd have thought Richards would have been a bit odd. But well, she wasn't that bad, besides not being very talkative.

With nothing else to do, you make your way down to the data center, which was located closer to the central core of the station. The door scans the ID built into your suit and lets you in, where you see dozens of techs working on rows and rows of consoles. Near the back, you could see Lida's red hair poking out and you make a beeline straight for it.

"Lida, you got something?" You ask your tech officer.

"You can say that." Lida nods as she points to the screen. "We've got a handle on the encryption and are decoding it right now. I think we've got a lead."

"What kind of lead?" You ask.

"We managed to backtrace Conveyor 5410's movements, and over the past six months it's been making constant stops to a particular star system." Lida explains. "System F-427."

"Any info on it?" You ask.

"Pretty sparse. But what data we do have suggest that there's five planets. Three of them are largely ocean and support a variety of aquatic life."

Huh, that reminds you of what Davos had told you earlier...

"There's still more data to sift through, though, but that would take more time." Lida warns.

"All right, I'll keep working on it." Lida nods. "Oh right, Amy and Elsa were looking for you, too. Apparently they found something on the station they wanted to show you. Wouldn't say what, though. They wanted to keep it a "surprise."

"Huh, is that so?" You wonder what they were talking about.

Then again, you also seem to have lost track of the rest of your main crew. Maybe you should track them down instead?

You decide to see what Amy and Elsa have planned. Probably up to no good or something, especially when the meeting point was supposed to be at the space elevator. You remember pretty clearly that you ordered all crew restricted to the station. What were they up to?

Well, you were about to find out, one way or another.

"Pssst! Cap! Over here!"

You turn your head to see Amy waving you over to the corner where she and Elsa were hiding behind, trying to be inconspicuous but totally being conspicuous. You just sigh and walk over to her.

"What the hell are you two planning now?" you groan, bracing for the impact.

"Not us, HIM!" Amy points down the hall. You look to see TANK of all people, still clad in armor, apparently trying to board the elevator.

"I'm s-sorry, sir." The poor security guard manning the checkpoint stammers as he tries to crane his head back to meet Tank's steely gaze. "Y-your ID isn't cleared to board the elevator. T-this is an issue t-that you should clear up with your c-captain."

Tank continues to stare, and the guard continues to wither under it, but he still valiantly holds the line.

"P-please sir, you can't just stand here all day!"

Knowing Tank, he probably would if he had reason to. Which makes you think. Why would he be here?
