Or

"I am far from the best human, far from the wisest, strongest or most 'human'. I say humanity is, sorry was, a flawed thing from the start; we are controlled by our primitive urges but we tried, and succeeded, to grow past these. I wish I could show you our art, our music, our writings and scriptures but all are gone. In light of this i shall give you a single quote; ''...and the universe will end not with a bang but with a whimper.'' Goodbye from a flawed example of a flawed race attempting to reach perfection yet falling into oblivion so many times. Nice to know that we were not alone in the universe, that was always one of our biggest fears, must get going. There an afterlife to prove, or disprove as it might be, friends to meet and family to hold close. Good night and good luck..."

Yeah, because you can accurately judge the emotions, interests and priorities of a completely alien species. Still, I guess the sheer egocentrism of this statement will give them some insight in what humans were like.

There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government, and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true and in governments of a monarchical cast patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose; and there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.

Humanity was an incredible force, I hope you will find remnants of civilization and bask in the glory that we shed upon the universe. Our gods. Our art. Our structures. Our monuments. Our weapons... If there was one word that could describe humanity, it would be Benevolent. Humanity always had a funny idea of what "fate" was... "Why was I here?" "Was I born with a purpose?" "Was there a certain task I had to accomplish before my life flickered before our eye's?" these are the questions that ran through all our minds without ever expressing the thought..My family...My friends....Our loved ones....So many regrets...."

It's good to know the correct grammar, though. One of my professors always said that when you use bad grammar in your native language people will assume it's meant to be funny, but when you use bad grammar in a second language people will assume you don't know what you're saying.

Anon coughed and dabbed the corners of his mouth with a dirty sleeve. "You want to know what?"

The alien caressed him gently. "We are here so that you may not be forgotten. We wish you to tell us what you would like us to tell those in the future, Anon, so that even though you pass now, you will never be forgotten."

Anon thought long and hard, but words could not come. How could he possibly create the words etched on the tombstone of humanity? He had no right, no possible right to do such a thing. What should he say? Anon coughed again. Pain began to work its way up from his toes. He knew what would happen now, he'd seen it happen. It would work its way up his body until it reached his heart. Most people died from the pain itself, but when it reached the heart all was lost. It was at his knees now.

He had to think and he had to think quickly. It would have to be short since he didn't have much time left. 'We died well?' No, that wouldn't work. There were so many words to describe humanity and in this dreadful moment of pain and anguish he could find none of them.

The alien touched him gently again. "Please, Anon, you must tell us. A race such as yours should not be forgotten."

Anon shook his head, tears rolling out of his eyes, his hands trembling as the pain slammed into his stomach. Human eyes locked with the strange square-shaped eyes of the alien. Anon could feel his world turning black, the purple eyes of the alien such a beautiful sight. The pain hit his chest and he opened his mouth one last time. "I'm sorry... I... tried..."

The alien stood and turned to the others behind him. They looked at him, fingers poised above their devices as they awaited his word. When a race failed to give their own epitaph, it would usually befall upon the leader of their group to deliver it. The alien looked back at the fallen human one last time before turning and nodding at his companions. "They tried."

>Our only regret is that we couldn't take you with us.

>THIS ISN'T EVEN OUR FINAL FORM

>DANGER: DO NOT RESUSCITATE, RECONSTITUTE, OR OTHERWISE REVIVE

>Humanity: "That guy" of the Universe.

>"Free Necrophilia: Because we'd have done it to you."

I wouldn't so much as write an epitaph as I would build a huge tomb filled to the brim with booby traps and signs with "treasure ahead" only there's no treasure because we're hateful dicks like that.
>>
>"We sought no refuge but in audacity."

>Humanity's tomb will be a great pantheon, filled with the remains of the greatest of Men from as far back as we can find remains for; philosophers, artists, scientists, authors, poets, musicians, generals, comedians, and so on and so forth. Each of these tombs will have an epitaph dedicated to a human emotion or desire, and while they last there will be a holographic demonstration accompanying these tombs. Holograms of people making love, making discoveries, commanding armies, telling jokes, weeping, comforting each other, backstabbing each other, sacrificing themselves, the whole gamut of human emotion. Along the inner dome of the pantheon will be a larger epitaph, something like, "Here lies our earthly remains, we go now to conquer the Heavens."

>there's some sort of robotic tool that attempts to construct a genocide plague based off of the biology of anything that approaches the grave marker.

>"Our invasion force has been split into 4 groups. One takes Heaven, one takes Purgatory, one takes Hell, and one assaults the court of Azathoth.
>>
We won't have a tombstone. We will have a mausoleum.

It will all be carved in limestone, covered in special polymers we created years prior.
>It will depict our ancestors, barely climbing from the trees, to reach for the gift or Prometheus.
>It will depict two men of leathers, using their right hands to reach out, wearing different tribal markings.
>It will depict greek philosophers, gesturing to the floating spheres, that are worlds and stars, far away.
>It will depict Enkidu and GIlgamesh, battling the great ogre guadian, Humbaba
>It will depict the gods of cultures, from the Babylonian Gods and Goddesses, to Anubis, the Greek Gods, the Abramaic YWWH, Vishnu, in various acts of care for man.
>It will depict men in chains, all nationalities, as a whip cracks at their backs from masked owners.
>>
>>46117029

>It will depict men and women of revolution. Dictators. Heroes.
>It will depict artists. Poets, men of thought and beauty.
>It will depict men of knowledge. Scientists, psychiatrists, and all in between.
>It will depict man, standing astride with the first automaton in three stages. First, as the new slave. Then, as aggression. Then, as equal, embraced in clear regret from the previous two actions. The look of forgiveness.
>It will depict an astronaut. First, the era of 1960s, the bulky suit. Then, 2060, when the suits became sleeker, better material to insulate the human. Easily to 2200, when the suit becomes near form fitting, protecting Humanity from the void while giving him their form without error.
>It will depict a man, a hammer one hand, raised over the atom over an anvil. He will be followed by a man with two halves of an atom, an explosion clear. Then a tree. Then a small depiction of a sun.
>It will end with a single man, considered iconic, impossible to determine origin from the limestone skin. He will be the features of all, compiled and chosen to pick the most neutral looking human. In his hands, are two things. A sword, and a Book. The book is open, and reads...

The aliens put up their tombstone.

"Here lies the last human. He was... very proud."

I'd play for them any chromatic scale. Sing it, if I had to. That, more than anything else, is the purest example of humanity. It has within it our obsession of pattern and meaning, our dependence on and manipulation of our environments, our dominance in communication and the primacy of our voice. It reflects countless cultures, it exemplifies the life of billions both living and dead, and it proves a sense of exploration and categorization that little else could do so quickly. In it is math, and engineering, and art. And it shows our limits. It shows how narrow our sensory experience was. It shows how incompletely each individual ever knew another, and how crippled we were by that yearning for that impossible goal. It could even effect the art and science of other races and other times, memetically, even if only has a fad and a footnote. That's the only real way to immortalize a species that obsessed with finding a brother, isn't it? To infect someone else, some other time and space, with our ideas?

C to C. Do to Do. That would definitely be what I gave to xenos.

"Back at home, there was so much speculation about extraterrestrials. Some of us were scared of what was out there, and some of us wanted to conquer the stars anyway. Quite a few of us assumed we would be too warlike in comparison to all of the other alien civilizations out there, given the fact that war was pretty much a constant on our world. Some thought that we would welcome aliens we found with open arms. Some thought there were no aliens to find. But we never really knew if there even was anyhing out there besides us. If I had one wish, I would wish that we had made contact with you before we died off. It would've set so much of us at peace..."

“Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget

It encapsulates the human spirit so well. The original idea of "through dick, unity" being a pivotal point of humanity, while also being slightly mispelled to the point where the idea can't really be properly conveyed unless the reader already knows what it is. Either fondness for dick is a universal constant or humans will remain an eternal enigma to the cosmos.

I can only hope I'd have the presence of mind to do the same, because there's no way I'd be able to open my mouth without embarrassing us as a whole. With luck the aliens would believe the silence to be my answer and hopefully find it poignant.

>Human
Everyone knows the only -real- humans are those with Neanderthal admixture in their blood.
>>
>>46132858
Pretty sure members of every race carry some Neanderthal DNA. If I remember right you can find it in something like 30% of the world's population.
>>
>>46132941
the only exception is the Aborigines and some isolated sub-Saharan populations, I think. Pretty much everyone of Europid, Asiatic, North-African, or anyone having contact with them have some Neanderthal DNA.
>>
>Human. your people are gone, we could not save them and can only sustain you a little while longer. but we can preserve you in memory, so tell us human what would you have as the final words of your people. Give us the epitaph of humanity that the universe may know who you were.

We were a strain of plains chimps with overclocked cerebral cortexes and a tendency to take ourselves far too seriously. The greatest amongst us were those who were in on the cosmic joke.

I can't give you any dignified last words. Not for this. This death was neither heroic nor rightly deserved. Had we fallen as heroes, we would be worthy of rememberance. Had we fallen as villains, we would be a lesson in what not to do. But here, now and forevermore, we lie dead and broken as mere victims of circumstance.

Don't you see? Now and forevermore, my entire race will serve only to illustrate how pointless, how cruel, how cold, how capricious, and how merciless this vast and uncaring cosmos is. How fruitless the endeavors of the living are.

Would you want that for your people? No. Let the memory of mankind die with me, that hope may yet live on in some distant corner of the stars, for who could look upon this and not fall to despair?

We were doers and dreamers at our best, but below primal at our worst. Humanities successes and failures were achieved by ourselves, through ourselves.
