So it's easy enough to extrapolate for this that while 0 overflow will get stats at about the same rate, the increased number of LEVEL UPS will slowly pull ahead in overall strength.

But overflow gives skills. And upgrades abilities, going by this instance?
>>
>>46216126
I'll be honest, I don't understand this overflow thing at all
>>
>>46216185
Yes, it's obvious enough that plenty of anons don't care how this whole level up thing works, so they just vote for what they want whenever TT prompts them. You are not the minority.
>>
>>46216236
I was under the impression TT was forcing a level up, so I voted.
>>
We'll finally upgrade from D- to D rank!
>>
>>46216278
Takashi's moving up in the world.
>>
I feel like we haven't gotten any Build EXP in a while.
>>
>>46216126
From what we were told before, when it comes to rankings it's not the ammount of CEXP you have, but levels. If our levels remain low, our stats grow fast and we can use those stats to learn moves from books fast. We raise it too high to begin with and all future stats will simply be too expensive. Our progress would slow and the number of levels and stat boosts would decrease.

Ideally, we want to level when we just hit the limit since it doesn't increase the cost for the next level, and do a big fight right when we are on the verge of a level for a ability boost and skill.

We should also go for the bigger abilities like torrent shot and passives rather than one ally buffs and debuffs since our allies are pretty capable and we have multiple personas.
>>
>>46216317
>We should also go for the bigger abilities like torrent shot and passives rather than one ally buffs and debuffs since our allies are pretty capable and we have multiple personas.
This. I can't see why anons are voting for buffs.
>>
>>46216236
I didn't vote because I didn't want to make an uninformed decision actually
>>
>>46216317
>since it doesn't increase the cost for the next level,
it, uh, does. Reread the pastebin, overflow level ups proportionally increase the amount needed for the next regular level.

rankings still matter, but between stats of equal rank, that's when total level starts to shine.
>>
>>46216343
Meh, Torrent Shot won anyway.
>>
>Your STRENGTH has increased to D-.
>Your MAGIC POTENTIAL has increased to D.
>Ippon-Datara has learned Torrent Shot.
>Ippon-Datara’s rank is now D.
>C. EXP has dropped to 0. 50.00 C. EXP required for the next LEVEL UP.

114 roars with pride. The light is fading from its ghostly body. Fumika rubs her hand on its nose and watches as it returns back to its own sector, vanishing completely from the area.

“Hey, is everyone alright?” You ask.

“Just about.” Celeste groans, sliding her rapier back into its sheath. “My back is going to hurt for the next couple of days, though. That exhaustion spell was nasty.”

“That creature was very powerful, but it did not use its full potential, possibly due to the psychological issues present in the ‘host’.” Fumika notes. She taps her gun, reloading it, then puts it back into its slot. “We were lucky, Takashi. Had you not stunned it, it would have followed through with its Power Charge-infused attack. It could have knocked us all down, leaving us wide open to be slain.”

“Shit, really? Sorry, then.”

“You have nothing to apologize for. We claimed the victory. As a leader, you did an acceptable job of managing the battle, albeit with a great deal of assistance from my Companion.”

“Oh? Fumika, is that a hint of smugness I hear?” Celeste teases.

“You are mistaken.”

>All your Basic Medkits were used! Your team is back at full vitality.
>>
>>46215788
>Increase STRENGTH by one sub-rank.
>Increase DEXTERITY by one sub-rank.

>Torrent Shot: Medium Phys damage to 1 foe 2x to 3x.
>>
>>46216364
..thats what I said. If we keep going for just enough, getting it in the bottom levels, the cost for the next level would not increase. Or do you forget that in the paste bin?

0-9%: Normal LEVEL UP.
10-24%: Minor boost to LEVEL UP upgrades. Very minor increase in C. EXP needed.

So by that 0-9% means it doesn't increase the CEXP we need for the next level at all.

“So, what the hell are we going to do about this guy?” Akikazu speaks up, pointing towards the immobile form of Chikashi.

The four of you surround him. You nudge him with the side of your foot, pushing him onto his back. His expression is completely neutral, neither smiling or frowning and devoid of emotion. His clothes are full of dust from the battle.

“He’s not stirring.” You say. “Is he dead?”

“No, he’s still breathing.” Celeste responds, pointing to the gentle rising and falling of his chest. “It’s like he’s asleep…”

“Asshole, get the fuck up.” Akikazu gives him a kick in the sides. “You have a lot to answer for!”

“Yeah!” Celeste cries. “How dare you turn into a monster and attack my friends! I’m not going to forgive you!”

>>Takashi: Use the Trafuri Canister.

You teleport you and your teammates back to the bonfire, dragging Chikashi along. With Akikazu, you carry him into the safehouse and lay him on one of the worn softs in the living room. The next ten minutes consist you trying various ways to wake the bastard up. Smelling salts from the medkits, water dumped on his head, pinching his skin, lighting a fire beneath his nose, even a purchasing a Revival Bead from Shironeko Remedies…they all fail.

“Sheesh, it’s like he’s in a coma.” You comment.

“It appears to be that way. In that case, a Revival Bead wouldn’t have much effect.” Fumika says. “Perhaps this is a job for the hospitals.”

“Alright, let’s take him outside. I don’t feel like staying in the Void any longer.”

“Amen to that.” Akikazu grunts.

Together, you gather at the doors standing outside the safehouse. You take hold of Chikashi’s head and Akikazu grabs his legs. After nodding to each other, Celeste flings open the door leading back to Akumachi City. You step within the light. It surrounds you, consumes your body until only your soul remains. On any day, it would’ve been overwhelming. Now, it is comforting, for you have returned from a mission well completed.

You step out into the alleyway. You lift your hands in the air, stretch and yawn in relief. The sky is darkening. The oranges and reds are being swept away by the blues and blacks. Night is coming. No doubt nee-san is at home, brewing up a hearty meal for the two of you. Your stomach rumbles. Now, that’s a treat. You grin in anticipation. Hopefully she’ll cook some of that fried rice you always enjoy.

You reach into your pocket for your mobile phone. It’s late, and you wouldn’t want nee-san to start worrying about you. God knows she already does enough of that.

…hang on a minute. Why are your hands empty?

<Akagi21> what the fuck are you doing

You spin on your heel and rush back to the ornate door. At once, you emerge again into the Forgotten City. Akikazu is standing there, glaring at you with cross arms. Chikashi is slumped on the ground like a mangled doll, still unconscious.

“Takashi-kun, did you drop him?” Celeste asks.

“I…what happened?” You gasp. “Wait, no I didn’t!”

“Of course he fucking dropped him, Tachibana, don’t be ridiculous!” Akikazu growls.

“Bullshit! I’m not that stupid!”

“The proof speaks for itself.” Akikazu rolls his eyes. “Look Takashi, since you are this bloody incompetent, I’ll be one to drag him through the gate. Let’s swap.”

“O-okay…?” You say, your voice betraying all of your confusion and then some. Shrugging your shoulders, you grab Chikashi’s legs. Akikazu takes hold on his head and marches into the door you just came out of.

You watch what happens next very carefully. Akikazu is engulfed by the light, as usual. Then it’s time for Chikashi to go through. Except, he doesn’t. His head hits the wall of light, then bounces off as if it was made of rubber. His head crashes down onto the concrete floor, a perfect way to give one a concussion. The door closes, leaving Akikazu in reality and Chikashi still stuck in the Blackened Void.

It takes a moment for you to absorb this in.

“Celeste, did it…”

“Yes, Takashi-kun. Same thing happened.”

You take out your phone.

Yeah, I half-expected something like this might happen. Chikashi said he went to sleep and just woke up here, so maybe we're dealing with an astral projection. We can't bring him out of the Void because he already is out, and this is just an empty shell waiting for him to dream his way back here.

Normally? Unless he was a social link I would agree with parting ways. But there is a slight problem. With the way he described it, the abomination was sealed. Not killed. We fought the thing while it was weak, fresh and handicapped and used a lot of luck to survive,

It took enough damage, went back into it's cage and never got a chance to use it's darkness spells. If it gets out again, we may not be so lucky. He's also going to be important in figuring out how to solve the problem in case we get more than one person stuck in here.

Maybe he needs to get his persona, maybe he needs to change as a person, maybe we need to search our world for the magic alter to sacrifice him upon? Either way, he's going to be quite important.

Once Akikazu returns, he then tries to brute force Chikashi’s head through the door by pushing it against the light wall. His act is of no avail. The door obstinately refuses to let Chikashi through. Several attempts later, Akikazu scowls in frustration and slams his fist against the door.

“Doesn’t work.”

“We observed that from your eight attempts.” Fumika says. “Try the other doors.”

>>Void’s Chosen: Attempt to shove Chikashi Yone through the other doors.

You do that. They all fail, from the gun shop all the way to the Hebi-Ko Medical Facility. Even the Velvet Room proves to be of no use, which is somewhat expected since you’re the only one who can see it. Your team tries all sorts of things. Leg first, sideways, upside down. You strip off his blazer and hurl at the open door. It’s reflected almost instantly.

“Not even his inventory, huh.” You say. “He’s really not allowed back out.”

“Bastard. First he tries to murder us and now this?”

You sigh and sit down next to the bonfire. You look into the flames, searching for an answer. Yeah, right! What’s an unstable chemical reaction going to tell you, chop off all his limbs and feel them in one by one? Fumika summoned Moros and told you that his soul wasn’t passing through. Decapitation isn’t going to fix that.

“This is just a thought, but what if…” Celeste says.

“What?”

“What if the reason we can’t bring this guy outside is because he’s already part of the game?”

“You mean, like an NPC?” You ask.

“I don’t play a lot of video games, but NPC stand for Non-Player Characters, right? They're people who aren't players. Shadows and enemies are technically NPCs, and this guy was an enemy, so…”

“It means he isn’t outside the game world, unlike us because we’re Players and special.” You finish, your eyes widening. “Shit, this is some heavy stuff. Makes sense, though…”

“So, what’s going to happen to him?” Akikazu mutters, scratching his head. “What, are we just going to leave him here?”

You and Celeste think.

“We won’t be here all the time.” You point out. “What if he wakes up in the middle of the night and starts screaming because he’s alone in an empty house in an empty city?”

“That’s what written notes are for, silly.”

“I think it’d just make him more confused.”

“Takashi-kun, are you saying someone should watch over him. Because if so, then I bagsies going back home.”

“What? Why?”

“Because I have homework to do.”

“So do I!” You protest. “Fine. Akikazu, you do it.”

“Fuck no.” He snarls, putting his hands up. “I’m already a busy man. Besides, I don’t like the look of this guy. He’s a real asshole. Let’s just leave him next to the bonfire with a bottle of water or something.”

“That’s cruel, Akikazu! He'll starve.” Celeste exclaims. “We need to find a way to let him ease in when he wakes up in this strange new world. It's the right thing to do.”

It's not like Chikashi is actually going anywhere. Until more details arrive, it can only be assumed Chikashi is permanently stuck in the Void, at least until the game is over.
>>
>>46217415
Because Batman has a faith in Gotham's prison systems that is frankly unwarranted?
>>
>>46217410
>a) he's still a high-schooler,
No he is some sort of chaos spawn.
>and b) Takashi isn't actually a murderer.
If we let him live we are responsible for all the harm he ever does from this point on just because we had to indulge our own selfish hedonism instead of doing our duty as a human.
>>
>>46217410
that's why Fumika will pull the trigger or feed him to her pet.
>>
>>46217450
You mean the way you seem to have faith in our ability to contain him.
>>
>>46217453
You are making a lot of assumptions here. The fact is that we don't know what's going on with Chikashi, and until we do executing him is a stupid decision. We should at very least interrogate him before hand.
>>
>>46217453
Just because we had a boss fight with a demon does not give the right to dehumanize Chikashi.

>>46217458
That would still make Takashi a conspirator and thus a murderer by association.

WE DON'T KNOW if Chikashi can pull that shit again. For all we know, he's going to wake up, act friendly with Takashi again and be completely oblivious to everything that happened the past couple days. That's when we punch him in the nose for being so spoiled.
>>
>>46217552
Is google really so hard to use? He's the punisher.
>>
>>46217490
Probably not demonic. Might be a worse version of the 'shadow self' from persona 4. Which is their negative thoughts, emotions and the like. If everyone getting their persona made shadows spawn, then something like this could happen as well.

Mind you, it means that it's easy enough to cure and deal with as opposed to actual demon stuff.

>>46217569
Even if killing him just unleashes the monster at full strength? He's not the beast, he's the SEAL of the beast. You break him, it comes out and then we have no way to stop it.

Not really, if it allows us to prevent the formation of further Abominations. Your haste could doom us all.

There’s absolutely no hint of emotion in her tone. No deadpan sarcasm, no casual frivolity, no barely suppressed rage. It is a statement of fact, pure in its simplicity. Her mouth is a flat line, her eyes cold. And you, you are scared of your Spotter for the first time you can ever remember.

“Fumika, could you repeat that again?” Celeste says, her voice trembling somewhat.

“What else is there to say?” Fumika replies. “This boy…no, this creature is a danger to us all. Therefore, remove it.”

“That’s insane!” You find yourself shouting. “Fumika, this is a human life we’re dealing with here!”

“Is it?” She asks.

You aren’t expecting this. “Well, he looks human…”

“I analyzed him with Moros. It was easier since it is unconscious. There is no trace of humanity left in this creature's soul. Like the demons of myth, it may have the appearance of one, but deep down it is a monster lusting for our demise.”

“Hey, you don’t know that!” Celeste protests.

“That is your argument, Tachibana?” Fumika says, eying your best friend with contempt. “That I ‘don’t know’? I have retrieved every bit of information from this creature. My words are the truth; there is nothing human left of the boy Chikashi Yone. He is now an existence far worse than any Shadows or humans I have encountered. It is something vile, something very dangerous. Perhaps you’d like to take the position of this team’s Spotter, since you are so qualified for it.”

“I…well, you’re only saying that because you’re a mercenary!” Celeste shouts. A second later, she regrets it.

Fumika nods. “Correct. Because I am a mercenary, I will use my experience to assist this team as best I can. I will not be ruled by my emotions. If there is a threat, I will eliminate it.”

She takes out her laser pistol and aims directly at Chikashi’s heart.

“Dammit, Fumika!” Akikazu yells, rushing forward to grab her hand. “You’re being too hasty. I don’t like him, but I don’t want him to fucking die!”

Closest one off the top of my head is Issachar from SMT4 who gained demonic insight and corruption from reading books. And then you had Jun from Persona 2 who did get possessed by Nyarly for a brief period of time, but was able to recover in the Innocent Sin timeline.

“Yeah, what he said!” You say. “This isn’t a joke, Fumika! Put the gun away!”

She slaps Akikazu’s grip away.

“You saw how it was back at the overpass. This creature had no intention of communicating with us. It is a wild beast. We only defeated it because fate was on our side. Our next encounter with it may not be so fortunate. So, I’ll prevent it.”

“It might be different next time around!” You say. “Chikashi could wake up and start acting sane. You don’t know! There’s so much we don’t know about the game.”

“Reality is not a manga. Opponents do not magically become allies.” Fumika replies. She isn’t even looking at you. “I will admit, it is tempting to interrogate this boy. Information is precious.”

She pauses.

“However, that is not a chance I am willing to take. Not when it puts the lives of my comrades at stake.”

“We’re interrogating him.” You declare, making the snap decision. “I’ll take responsibility.”

“To gain information off it?” Fumika asks, clearly not doing what you just asked her to. “A tempting offer, but you are putting our lives at risk here. That is not to be taken likely.”

“If Chikashi comes back against a gigantic black neck monster thing, we’ll just have to beat him down. We already faced him, so we know a lot of his skills and tactics. We aren’t as weak as you think, Fumika. You know this.” You retort, glaring at her. “Now, quit pointing the gun at him!”

She closes her eye and pauses, mulling this over. Behind her, you see Celeste and Akikazu with frightened looks. Celeste has her hands clasped in front of her chest, as if praying.

Still, Fumika does not obey. “Then, how will you contain it?”

“We can use cameras for that. There’s also motion-sensitive equipment that can check whether or not somebody’s moving. You can hook them up to your phone, right?” Your breath comes in ragged gasps. Your shirt is already ruined by the buckets of sweat trickling down your back. Fumika doesn’t look concerned at all, merely staring back at you with a mask of calmness. Maybe this is what she’s used to. Even so, you won’t let her have her way. “Look, I’ll stay behind and keep watch until you get ready. That way, Chikashi won't be able to run. This is acceptable, isn’t it?”

In and out. The seconds that pass by stretch out into centuries. Another interrogation is occurring—your soul in Fumika’s eyes. Her grip on the gun doesn’t waver. She looks deep into you, watching, judging, analyzing and concluding.

She takes a deep breath, and lets her arm fall to her side.

“Very well. You have convinced me, Takashi. Know that I will hold you to your word. Any consequences that result from this is entirely on shoulders.”

You let out the biggest sigh of relief you’ve ever made in your life. Celeste and Akikazu are doing the same. “Thanks, Fumika.”

She waves it off. “We better get moving, then. I heard the Hephaestus Siblings sell metal chains.”

She strides towards the door, efficient and poised as usual. You stand there, hand pressed against your chest, panting. The stress is seizing up your legs. It might take a little while to let the shock of everything that just happened fade away.

Someone slaps you on the back. It’s Akikazu.

“That was tight. Good work, Takashi.” He grunts. From the looks of it, he just spent the last couple of minutes tensing every muscle in his bulky body. It’s almost unnoticeable, but there’s a small grin on his lips.”

“You did great, Takashi-kun.” says Celeste, moving up and smiling, relieved but tired. In her hands is a bar of chocolate, which you accept. “Thank you for making the right decision.”

"Yeah, no problem..."

You head over to the Hephaestus siblings and purchase a set of metal chains. The siblings make an innocent joke that travels through one ear and comes out the other. Under Fumika’s instructions, you and Celeste hook Chikashi up to the bonfire, restraining him by the arms, legs, neck and torso. You leave him a distance away from the fire, not far enough so that the chains would weaken but distant enough so that the flame won’t harm him. Throughout the process, he remains unonscious. It’s almost unnerving how he doesn’t snore, mumble or do anything really. He would be a corpse, if it weren’t for his the faint breathing.

“I’ll spend the night here.” You take a seat next to the bonfire. “You guys can go home or whatever. Don't worry about me and have a good rest.”

Celeste nods. “I’ll buy you a meal when I get outside. Do you want Japanese or fast food?”

“Just get whatever.” You sigh. “Right now, I don’t feel all that hungry.”

“Don't be silly. You're starving. Anyway, I’ll share my favourite with you. Hang in there, Takashi-kun.”

“I will.”

“See you tomorrow, Takashi.” Akikazu raises a hand, then disappears through the door. Celeste gives you another grateful smile, then follows him. It’s just you and Fumika now. She's staring at the screen on her laptop. It's just like she's in class all over again, innocent yet attuned in to her surroundings like a hawk.

Is there anything you would like to say to her?

>“We aren’t mercenaries, Fumika.”
>“Next time, obey my orders.”
>“Do you think I made the right decision?”
>You don’t feel like talking to her.
>“Just how many people have you killed?”

“That really spooked you, huh?” You half mutter to her, half project your voice to the distance. “Normally you would be all for gathering more information before making a decision.”

“For the record, I had already gathered all the necessary information via my Persona. However, I do admit that I may have been…a tad judgemental.” She says, not looking up. “Having said that, such decisions could save lives on mercenary runs, possibly even determining the difference between great success and ending up in a megacorporation experimental cell.”

“Yeah, well we aren’t mercenaries, Fumika.” You snap. “I don’t know how you lived your life before this, but we’re different. Don’t go doing stuff like this without our call, okay?”

She peeks up from the top of her laptop lid, still expressionless. However, she opens her mouth, closes it, before proceeding as normal. “Duly noted. The materials for the observation will be available tomorrow. I shall the one to set them up. Until then, we shall both watch the subject, together.”

“His name is Chikashi.” You say, wearily, but you end it there. You don’t have the energy to argue with her any further. Exhaustion clings at every cell in your body. It’s getting harder and harder to fight off the urge to sleep.

You yawn and shift around in your seat. Day and night have no business in this forgotten, desolate city. Even so, you feel as if the sky has grown dark in accordance with your mood. Today, you fought the toughest battle of your life and prevented a classmate of yours from committing another murder. Now, you will spend the next eight hours beneath the perpetually clouded heavens, sitting by this eternal fire with only said classmate and an unconscious boy-monster to keep you company.

How very wonderful.

[END OF EPISODE 6]

Thanks for running, Thorn. This was a fun thread, the focus was narrower than normal but that just meant we got a lot more done for what we were dealing with. See you next time.

Good point. That's my fault for assuming "End of Episode" was the same as "End of Thread". You've gone past the end of an episode before ending a thread previously, though usually not far past. I guess I just assumed with the late hour that you were ending now.

You’re back again. The dark emotionless wallpaper, the moldy rug covering the floor, the lone chair in front of the oak table and the ominous presence lurking at the very back like an overwhelming smell. It’s the Velvet Room. Where else would you be? Your dreams would be more pleasant, but this is a room that exists between the boundaries of reality and nightmares. As long as you remain the Wild Card, just like life, death, love and hatred, it is inescapable.

The brother is missing. Only the sister remains.

“So, through your own conviction, you managed to avoid staining your hands with the blood of another.” The girl smirks. “How very clever of you. If my brother asked me to risk a trough of gold on how pleased you feel at present, I would laugh in his face and call him an imbecile.”

She leans closer, the malice present in every inch of her face, from her smooth chin to her golden eyes and the silver hairclip attached to her monochrome hair.

“Tell me something, guest. Partake in a little game with me. Assume that I know the truth about the trials you are facing, every bit of it. Now, imagine that beforehand, I told you that taking the life of the boy chained to the fire would've greatly benefited you and your fellow Void’s Chosen in the near future. What would you have done, then?”

>“I have no reason to trust you.”
>“I have done nothing wrong.”
>“I still would’ve stopped Fumika from making her mistake.”

“I still would’ve stopped Fumika from making her mistake.”

“Because what’s ‘right’ is not equivalent to what is necessary? A man of morals, I see.” The girl responds. “Consider your situation, guest. You traverse a foreign realm inhabited by many hostile creatures. To you, much of it is uncharted territory. A single wrong move could spell the end of you and your comrades. Knowing this, would what is necessary take more priority than what is right? After all, it would ensure your survival, the most important thing to you. If what is necessary ultimately becomes more important, then does it not become what is right and just?”

You snort. “I doubt our values are similar enough for us to agree on what benefits me.”

She laughs, condescending, malevolent and spiteful.

“True, true. Well, it’s up to you to decide. We are not the actors, we are merely the audience watching the stage. I do not know everything about the game, for my brother and I cannot predict the future. Your consequences are your own and we shall be observing them, with great interest, as always.”

She slides back into her seat. “Your Hermit friend has walked down a path of bloodshed. How long will it be before you join her? There will be times where you cannot afford to relent, times where you will scrape victory by the narrowest of hairs, times where you will find yourself alone, without backup and facing a murderer eye to eye, who is without reason or the sanity. Will you die and leave this mortal coil behind? Perhaps not wanting to lose everything you will fight back, trade blows, revel in the bloodshed and leave your opponent beaten on the hard ground. And at the very end, when he is pleading for mercy and forgiveness…”

Her grin grows and grows.

“…it may be you who pulls the trigger.”

Everything is darkening.

"I dearly look forward to that day, guest..."

All that's left is her golden eyes,

"In fact..."

You fall back into unconsciousness...

"...it may happen sooner than you think."
