Welcome back to WrestleQuest! This is a SOL Quest in which you take the role of young Robin Winters, as he tries to make it big in the crazy world of pro-wrestling under the persona of The Ace.

Last Thread, you had a heart to heart with a friends, and ran some errands. Now, your old mentor is visiting you in the middle of night asking to go on a road trip.

>Player Question
Who worst girl and why? Who worst boy and why? Who worst Wrestler and why?

>SATURDAY, APRIL 2nd 2016

You stare sleepily at Kevin Omega, who is standing expectantly in your doorway. "A... road trip? Omega, don't you know what time it is? It's... actually, what time is it?"

Omega glances at his watch. "About 3:25... AM, obviously."

Oh, you have got to be kidding.

>SUNDAY, APRIL 3rd 2016

"And you want to go on a... road trip? Right now? Omega, what the hell are you on?"

Kevin gives a sharp growl of annoyance. "No more questions, just hurry up and pack your things before Patty wakes up, sees that I'm not in my house, and goes on the manhunt."

>I'm not going anywhere with you
>No seriously, what the hell are you talking about?

I expect we are going on an adventure regardless, so might as well see if he'll make sense.

Kim, waaaaay to obsessed with Robin. Kassius, he's just a complete tool. Kassius again because he was a giant baby at the end of the match.

Also you really gonna run every day? Jeebus take a break!

Oh lord no, but I am going to run every time I get the chance. Threads will probably start becoming less frequent (but lengthier) from here on out.

First for Danny as David's manager in the classic comedy heel manager paired with stoic giant angle.

"It's like you said before, I have a lot of people I need to make amends with. And only three of them live in your apartment. For the rest, we're going to have to go on the road!"

You cross your arms. "That doesn't explain why this is suddenly a 'we' issue. Why can't you go to these people by yourself?"

Omega looks at you, unamused. "Ace, do I look like someone who can do anything by himself. I need someone with me for support, and Patty wouldn't allow this, but lucky for me that hawk of a woman actually does sleep sometimes, so I sneaked out and made my way over here in the OmegaMobile. Pretty fun, I haven't driven it in years. Anyway, you and I will have to take a trip to Hartford, Connecticut."

You rub your temples. Apparently, Omega can't take a hint. "Hey, remember the way I don't want anything to do with you? Why do you think you can pull me out of my bed in the early hours of the morning and bring me to Connecticut?"

"Because if you do, I will pay you 2000$, and I'll leave you alone forever." His face is stern and serious.

"Really?"

"Yes. I stand by that offer, as long as you help me. Just this once... please." His voice cracked on the last word.

>Fine, if you're that desperate for help. Can I at least say goodbye to my girlfriend, so she doesn't wonder why I'm missing in the morning?
>Not enough. Make it 3000$, and you've got yourself a deal.
>You couldn't pay me enough to do anything for you.

"Oh yeah, you have one of those. Make it quick, I want to get to Stamford before the sun rises. We've got a long day ahead... I've pissed off a lot of people, Ace."

"I know."

You shuffle back to your room, where you begin to gather your stuff into a bag, before gently shaking Kimberly awake. "W-wuh..." she groggily mutters, rubbing her eyes. "Ace? What time it it? Why do you have a bag?"

"Omega just offered me 2000$ to come with him to Connecticut for the day."

Kimberly is taken aback, but gently and tiredly take your hand. "Oh, you poor baby... that's not nearly enough money to spend a day with that guy... come back safe, okay."

"I will."

You kiss Kimberly on the forehead as she drifts back to sleep, before leaving your apartment with Omega. He takes you out to a parking lot near your apartment building, where a black sedan is parked. "Ace, meet my one true love in this world. Haven't driven this baby in years." He holds the key's to the car in his hand. "You want to take her?"

>No thanks. It's your car, you should drive.

>Sure, why not?

Omega tosses you the keys. "There you go. Who says I'm not generous? Okay, everyone who has ever known me says that, but still."

You hop into the driver seat while Omega gets into the passenger seat of the car, and starts digging around the glove compartment.

"What are you looking for?" you ask.

"It's a long drive, and I know I have some tapes still in here... this would be much easier if I labelled any of them." Hey pulls out a small music tape and shoves it into the car's tape recorder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFx-5PGLgb4

Immediately, Kevin forcefully ejects the tape. "No. That is not the right one."

As you make your way onto the road, Kevin rolls down a window and tosses out the tape, before returning to the glove compartment. "Okay, how about... this one!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxAa83gP9vc

"Now that's more like it!" Kevin exclaims as he leaned back in his seat and rests his eyes, while also miming the guitar in the song.

>So... who exactly are we visiting in Hartford?

>So... who exactly are we visiting in Hartford?

"Far from Folsom Prison..." Kevin mumbles, before you have to snap your fingers to grab his attention. "Wuh-what?"

"You are we visiting in Hartford?" you repeat.

Kevin shrugs. "Some old friends, an old wife, an old boss. The usual."

"That's all the detail you're going to give me, isn't it?" you ask.

"Yep, pretty much."

You sigh and keep driving along the road. Twenty minutes into the drive, you notice the amount of gas left in the car's tank. "Shit, we're going to have to pull in to the next gas station."

"Don't worry yourself, Ace. I'LL pay for it," Omega replies, reassuringly.

"It's your car, and you're rich. At no point was I offering to pay for gas," you reply in turn.

You pull into the gas station, as Omega hands you a couple of dollar bills. "I'll take care of the gas, why don't you grab something nice from that vending machine?"

As the two of you pool out of the car, Kevin's attention is caught by the woman standing in front of the vending machine. "You know, I feel like I've seen her before..." He places a finger to his chin as the woman bends over to grab a soda can out of the machine. "Yes... VERY familiar..."

You shake your head, but as you approach the vending machine yourself, you do recognise the woman. You know for a fact you've seen her before. It's the same raven-haired woman you've ran into a couple of times before. Odd that she's up and about at this time of the morning, too.

As she grabs her can of soda, she turns around and nearly bumps into you. You face remains un-emotive as she does. She gives a quick glance up and down, clearly trying to work out if she's met you before, either.

>Hey, it's you again! We have to stop meeting like this.

>Hey, it's you again! We have to stop meeting like this.

The woman squints her make-up filled eyes as you speak. "Have we met before? I don't remember you."

Well, that's kinda awkward. You scratch the back of your head nervously. "Oh... I mean, we bumped into each-other a few times? You returned my phone, I returned your wallet..."

The woman paused for a moment. Without changing her expression, she nodded. "Yes, I recall that." She catches a glimpse of Omega filling up the car, before turning back to you. "You're a wrestler."

You're taken aback. "Oh... yeah, I am. Are you a fan?"

Without answering your question, the woman reaches into her coat pocket and pulls out a card with a number on it. "You should call that number if you get the chance. It might interest you."

The woman brushes past you and makes her way to her own vehicle, an old minivan. You look down at the card, and by the time you notice that there isn't a name attached, it's too late to call after her. You grab a can of soda from the vending machine and make your way back to the sedan.

Omega lets out a whistle as you approach. "You've got some smooth moves, Ace. I saw the way she was subtly undressing you. I think you have a shot."

"I have a girlfriend," you simply reply.

"Ace, you should never settle. Anyway, this baby's filled up, so let's get back on the road. You had your fun with the girl, but I'll drive us the rest of the way."

As you and Kevin climb into the car, he starts up his music tape again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR5XGTpophI

"Why are you doing this?" you decide to ask.

"I'm a pretty big Johnny Cash fan-"

"Not that, this. The trip to Hartford?"

Omega sighed. "Is it really so hard to believe that I might actually want to make amends with some people after I retire? I'm not a sociopath, Ace. I can have regrets. Or maybe you're just too much of a boyscout to have any of your own, am I right?"

>I have regrets.

>I have regrets.

Omega grins. "Aww, you want to talk about it, sport? Maybe over a game of catch?"

You roll your eyes as you lean back in your seat. Maybe it'll be better if you get some rest. Your eyelids are heavy, as you begin to drift off...

"Hey, Ace!"

You jolt upright, awoken from your sleep by Omega. "What time is it?" is the only thing your tired state can think to ask.

"We're nearly there. Be a gem, and grab another tape from the glove compartment. This one is finished."

Groggy, you open the glove compartment in search of a tape to play, when you notice an old photograph. You pull it out and get a good look at it. The first person you recognise is a young Kevin, followed closely by his former best friend James Daniels. Daniels is wearing his trademark biker jacket, and has his arm draped over the shoulder of Omega, with a beer bottle in both men's hands at what appears to be a picnic. Both men are smiling. A woman you recognise as Omega's ex-wife, former seven-time UPW Women's champion Charlotte Anderson, is standing in the background, holding a baby in her arms.

"What's that you've got there?" Omega asks, spotting the photo out of the corner of his eye as he remains focused on the road. "Doesn't look like a Johnny Cash tape to me."

>Show him the photograph

You hand over the photo to Omega, hesitant to ask about the child contained within. He takes a quick glance at it, as a small smile cracks on his face. "Heh, those were the days..." he mutters... before rolling down a window, crumpling up the photo and tossing it out onto the road.

"You really need to stop doing that," you say to him. "You can't toss all your bad memories out the window of a moving car. It's just not plausible."

"Says you," Kevin replies, as the car takes a sharp turn to the right. "Besides, we've reached our first destination."

You wearily look out the window to see a massive building before you. "Omega... that's Titan Tower."

Omega gives a small laugh. "That's right, UPW's main HQ. I have a lot of apologising to do here. I haven't spoken to Vincent Crockett since Starrcade. He probably wants a better explanation for why I no-showed my own retirement speech."

"And you think we'll just be allowed inside?" you ask.

"Of course I will! Don't forget, I was one of their biggest star-Oh, you said 'We'. Well, you'll have to wait out here while I have a chat with the president of the biggest wrestling company in the world, cause he's not going to recognise you."

Way to rub it in. As Kevin goes inside, you lean against his car and try to grab some fresh air. You feel your phone buzzing in your pocket. Oh great, it's Patty. You hesitantly answer.

"Hel-"

You decide it's for the best that you fill in Patty on what's going on.

"HE'S WHAT?! THAT ASSHOLE! AND YOU JUST LET HIM DO ALL OF THIS?!"

"Well, he offered me money, and to leave me alone forever..."

"And you believed him?! Are you really that stupid?" Patty lets out and angry yell, before breathing heavy to calm herself. "Oh shit... Charlotte lives in Hartford. He's going to visit her, try to reconnect... oh fuck, he's going to try to win her back, he's going to make a fool of himself... ugh, why is he such a mess?"

There is a brief silence on the other end of the phone, before Patty's voice rings out again.

"Listen to me, El Hijo del Fuckstick. You need to make sure Fuckstick Senior does not see his ex-wife. Trust me, it's for his own good. I don't care how much money this guy is throwing at you. You cannot let him destroy his life even further than he already has, okay?"

"You better!" Patty lets out another angry yell. "Trust me when I tell you he's going to make a fool of himself, because I'm talking from experience! He's done exactly the thing I'm worried about several times before! I'll never forget the karaoke incident... Look, just make sure he doesn't hurt himself worse. I don't want the guy's life to get somehow even more depressing."

*CLICK*

Patty hangs up, as you wait by the car for a while until Omega finally comes out, with a DVD case in hand.

"What's that?" you ask.

"After I spoke with Vincent, he decided to give me a copy of the video package they ran in place of my retirement speech. I... haven't seen it yet." Kevin clutches the case tightly.

"Are you going to?"

"Probably not," Kevin replies, as he climbs into the car and tosses the case into the back seat. "Okay, next stop-"

"Your ex-wife?" you ask, thinking of what Patty just told you.

Omega lets out a laugh. "Hell no! I'm going to have to work my way up to that one! Nah, we'll be stopping in at an old favourite bar of mine.

You drive to a place in town with a huge sign hanging over it reading "The Pourhouse".

"Cute name, but you know I don't drink..." you mutter.

"I'm not here to drink! Well, I'm not ONLY here to drink. I haven't come here in over a decade, on account of my relationship with one of the regulars."

You step inside the bar, and Omega points out a man in a biker jacket leaning over the counter. James Daniels. Kevin's old tag team partner, rival, and friend.

"And what do you know? He never leaves this place."

Kevin pulls out a pack of pills from his jacket and shoves one into his mouth. You give him a sideways glance. "Don't worry, it's just a Xanax. I need to calm the nerves if I'm going to get through this."

"Thanks. This one's going to be tough." Kevin takes a deep breath and makes his way over to the stool beside Daniels. There's a brief silence, neither man really acknowledging the other, until finally, Kevin speaks.

"So... wanna fight."

Without so much as looking at Omega, Daniels stands from his stool and smashes his beer bottle against the counter, his long silvery hair getting soaked in the process. "Outside. Now."

The men step outside the bar, with you following close behind. After a few stretches, Daniels throws a punch to the face of Omega, followed by another, followed by a right hook taking him down. You're concerned, but you wonder if this is just... a thing of theirs. Despite the anger from James, there seems to be a solid understanding between the two men.

Daniels leans down and grabs Omega by the scruff of his coat, pulling him back to his feet in order to wail on him with some more punches to the face. Kevin's nose starts bleeding as Daniels tosses him aside and yells. "Stop letting me hit you and throw some punches of your own, you bastard!"

Kevin wipes the blood from his mouth. "Nah... I'm letting you get all your anger out on me right now."

"Don't! I've waited 12 years for this! The least you can do is fight back!"

Kevin shakes his head, before taking another punch to the face. "I'm not going to do that."

"Why not?!"

Kevin spits out a blob of fresh blood. "Cause I'm the son of a bitch who named you Sue."

Daniels doubles over, letting out a gut-filled laugh, before driving his knee into the face of Omega, who collapses on the sidewalk. Daniels gives you a burning look, before adjusting his jacket and walking back inside the bar, pissed off.

Kevin picks himself off the ground and wipes the blood from his nose. "It... was a long time ago. It doesn't matter anymore. Let's just say I betrayed his trust, and he was right to kick my ass just now."

Kevin places a hand on your shoulder. "Thanks for having my back, Ace. You even knew that I wanted you to stand there and watch me get beat down like an awkward fool. By the way, when I was in with Vincent, I... made sure to put in a good word for you."

"R-really?"

"Yeah. I mean, you're a talented kid. You deserve your name to be put out there. I told him about my other graduates, too."

"That's... actually pretty nice of you..." you mumble.

"Yeah, well... I want you to have a good image of me before I do this next part." Kevin pulls out another pill and swallows it down. "Time to meet the ex..."

Fuck, you knew this was coming.

"Listen, Omega..."

Kevin turns his head. "Yeah, Ace?"

>I'm afraid I can't let you do that.

Kevin snorts. "Okay Hal 9000, and why won't you let me do the exact thing we drove out here to do?"

"Well, I was talking to Patty and-"

"Patty?" Kevin laughs. "Listen here, Ace. Let me fill you in on Patty Perez. She's just a kid with a schoolgirl crush. She's willing to admit to the kind of person I am, but she's not willing to accept it. She's not my wife. She's certainly not my mother... hell, she's young enough to be my daughter! She wants to take care of me and try to 'fix' me, all the while making me dependant on her. That's why she doesn't want me to see my ex-wife. She doesn't care about how I look, she just hates Charlotte. If you think her words are going to stop me, you're sadly mistaken."

Now he's starting to sound like his usual self. "I'm sorry, but I promised Patty I would try to stop you," you say reaching out and pulling him by the arm as he starts to turn. In response, Kevin shoves me.

"Don't put your hands on me!" he shouts, as his box of pills falls from his coat pocket, landing by your feet. You look down, and see that they aren't Xanax.

"Kevin..." you say, picking up the box. "These are painkillers."

There's a brief silence between you and your mentor, before Kevin makes a run for it.

>Chase after him

You run after Omega, trying to stop him from getting away from you, but the man is still pretty damn athletic, despite his age. That, and he's a tricksy bastard, who decides to overturn garbage cans in order to trip you up as you give chase. You don't let up, however, and after an obscenely long game of cat and mouse between streets and alleys, you finally manage to tackle Omega as he stops out the front of a rather large house. The two of you struggle on the ground, before he breaks free and stands on his own two feet.

"CHAAAAARLOTTE!" he calls out, as you see a woman standing by the door of the house, taking out her trash. In her early 40s, Charlotte's light brown hair is tied up in a bun, and she looks less than impressed to see her ex-husband.

"Kevin?! What the hell are you doing on my front lawn? And who is this?!" She has a thick southern accent, and her voice is harsh.

"He's a friend," Omega explains, shoving you away. "I'm sure you know I retired."

"And not a day too soon," she replies, folding her arms. "You didn't answer my question."
>>
"Look, Charlotte... I've done a lot of things wrong-"

"And what? You thought you could show up on my front lawn screaming my name, and what? I'd invite you inside for tea? Forgive you for all the shit you've pulled? Take you back? You really are stupid!"

Kevin desperately shakes his head. "No, it's not like that! I just want to make amends. I've been a real shit-head, but I want to change!"

"Change!" Charlotte lets out a sharp laugh. "You can't be serious. Kevin... you're slime. You're worse than slime. You are the scum of the earth. And as much as you like to blame it all on how the business changed you, or your mommy and daddy not treatin' you right, you were always going to be a bastard, no matter what. It's not something you became, Kevin. It's who you are. Deep down, you've always been broken. And nothing is ever going to change that. Now, take your friend, and get the fuck off my lawn before I get my gun."

"But Princess, I-"

"Don't you ever call me that again!" Charlotte screams. "Now, if you aren't off my property in the next five seconds, I am calling the police. 1..."

Kevin placed his hands in his pockets, hung his head low and stepped off the lawn, ignoring you as he passes by.

You catch up to him as he returns to the street. "Before you say anything," he begins, "I definitely deserved that."

>Punch him in the face

You've had enough, you clench you fist into a ball, and swing it at Kevin's face. He falls flat on his ass, and places a hand to his cheek. His eyes are wide and shocked, and he looks up at you with a hurt expression on his face.

"I... I didn't expect that..." he mumbles sadly.

"You didn't?" you yell. "I've had to put up with your shit since the moment you retired! Today, I've had to sit and watch as you make an even bigger mess out of your life! You didn't expect this?"

"Not from you, no!" Kevin yells back.

The two of you remain quiet for a long time, though it feels even longer. Your trembling fist is still in a ball when Kevin rises to his feet, takes a deep breath, and walks away from you, in the direction of his car. You follow close behind, and as he reaches the car, he opens the back door, and pulls out the DVD case. He shuts the door behind him, and walks into the nearest bar.

You follow him inside, and find him asking the bartender if he can use the bar's tv. The bartender recognises him, and tells him that he'll allow it, since it's too early in the day, and not many customers have come in. Kevin nods, and plays the video package.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ahHWROn8M0

The video package opens with a very young Kevin Omega in his debut match in the now defunct Georgia Wrestling Federation, winning the bout with the Ace Crusher. The camera then shifts it's focus to his time in Hardcore Championship Wrestling, holding the tag team titles with James Daniels. The two men joking and laughing on the ring apron. Next, it moves on to his debut in UPW. His first Intercontinental title win. His first PPV Main Event. Embracing Charlotte in the ring as confetti rains down after his first World Title victory. Holding the tag titles with his younger brother. His Starrcade Main Event against Daniels. His veteran battles with younger stars. His time in Japan. His retirement. A whole career, summed up in three and a half minutes. Every thing he ever did, all his achievements, his greatest moments, his rise, his fall, his love, his passion. Three and a half minutes.

There was a tear in Kevin's eye by the end. "They just had to use the Johnny Cash version, didn't they?" He ejects the video, shuts the case closed, reaches into his pocket and hands you the keys to his car.

"There's one more person I have to visit. You can come with, or you can go. I'll understand if you leave now. You'll still get your money."

>Follow him. I'm not going to leave him here.

You trail Kevin Omega as he walks the streets of Hartford, finally arriving at a cemetery. In that moment, you know the last person on his list.

Kevin walks among the graves, before stopping in front of a headstone marked;

>Here lies Logan Hickland
>1981-2006
>Loving brother, son, and friend.

"Hey, kiddo..." he says, before sitting down in front of the grave. He cracks a small, sardonic smile as he does. "Finally, one of you guys are going to let me talk."

You stand silently as you watch Kevin interact with his younger brother's burial site.

"Hey Logan... remember that time when you were seven, and you wanted to copy The Savage Man's Elbow Drop so bad, you pulled a mattress into our living room, and kept leaping of the couch? You loved it. You didn't stop until you accidentally smashed mom's fancy vase. You cried for hours, so scared of what dad was going to do when he found out... I helped you clean up, and I took the fall. And boy, did dad give me a beating that I felt for the next week. I'm never letting you live that down. You still owe me for that one, and I'll keep reminding you... and I'll keep reminding myself, because that's the one good thing I ever did for anyone."

Kevin lowers his head. "Kiddo... I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I left when I was 16 to do this shit, when I should have stayed in that hellhole and protected you. I'm sorry I let you follow me. I'm... I'm sorry that I was so caught up in my own bullshit that I couldn't even see you were killing yourself!"
>>
The tears begin flowing from Omega's face. Looking at the man who trained you now, you see that the facade has completely been shattered. "Logan, what am I going to do? My wife is leaving me! Logan, I think I got that girl pregnant! All the while, I couldn't see what was right in front of my face! I was too self-absorbed to help the one person who mattered most to me! I... I've been completely lost without you, kiddo."

Kevin buries his head in his hands, and begins sobbing uncontrollably. His breathing is heavy, and his voice is hoarse when he speaks. "You were always better than me, you know. You had more talent and heart in your little finger than I had in my entire body... but I was selfish. I had to have it all. You're the one true ace, as a wrestler, and as a human fucking being, and I let you die before the whole world could see it. Charlotte was right... I am broken. Compared to this, all my other failures don't matter. I don't care that I failed James. I don't care that I failed Charlotte. I don't care that I failed the company, my fans, my students. I failed you... and I can never forgive myself! I'm so sorry, kiddo."

Kevin picks himself off the ground, wipes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Come on Ace, let's go back."

I'm kinda curious--have any non-wrestling fans tried dabbling a bit more into the spectacle ever since this quest has taken off? It's always been on the periphery of my attention, but after this quest got going I started to watch a couple of the recorded matches on the WWE youtube channel.
>>
>Comfort him.

As Omega passes by, you place a hand on his shoulder. "Hey Kevin... I'm sorry."

Red-eyed, he turned to you and let out a small smile. "You don't have to be. Daniels punched much harder than you anyway," he joked.

The two of you walk back to the car together in silence, until Kevin decides to speak.

"You know Ace, despite everything that went wrong... I think I achieved quite a lot today. Okay, I mostly just got shit on by my ex-wife and punched a lot... but I've gained something from all of this."

You smile at him. "I didn't believe you to begin with... but you really are trying, aren't you."

"Trying, yeah. Succeeding, not so much. I still have more people to try to make things up to. The Princess, Diamond, Kingpin... fuck, I have a lot to apologise to Patty for, but she's someone who I should probably cut lose. She shouldn't be bringing herself down to my level, and he sure as hell shouldn't be hurting her UPW career to do it. To bad I didn't make the same deal with her as I did with you."

You turn to Omega, confused. "Huh?"

"Our deal, remember? You help me out today, and I pay you money and leave you alone forever." You had almost forgotten about that last part. "I'd be lying if I said I was a man of my word, but this time, I'm sticking by my promise. I owe you that much."

>That's pretty wise of you.
>Hey, you don't have to leave forever.

It's...it certainly has evolved from the early televised matches. I mean, I get it now--why people like it so much and have liked it so much. It's lively, ridiculous, and a lot more theatrical than I had expected--there's so much that goes into building the characters the wrestlers portray it surprised me.

Every match is like watching a 30-minute B-movie, but with more hamfisted fight choreography.

>Hey, you don't have to leave forever.

"Are you sure? It's the only reason you agreed to this in the first place..." Kevin muttered, climbing into the driver's seat.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Look, you've been a huge jerk the vast majority of the time I've known you," you reply, "but if you're really trying to get your life together, then I'm not going to give up on you. I'm proud of you."

Kevin is stunned. "Huh, usually it's the student seeking the pride of the master, but... this feels good. I'm glad you don't want me out of your life, Ace. You're not just a student to me... you're a friend."

The two of you share a brief smile, before he clears his throat. "Anyway, that's enough of that mushy crap. Let's go home."

Kevin starts up the car, and the two of you begin the long drive back to the city. "Hey, do you want me to put the Johnny Cash tape back in?" you ask, holding it between your fingers.

Kevin shakes his head. "Nah, I've had enough of the Cash man for one day. I think I've got some newer stuff in that glove compartment, if you look hard enough."

"Newer stuff?" you ask, sarcastically.

"You know, stuff that's five years old, instead of stuff that's twenty years old."

You root out a tape with much less wearing on it than the others, and pop it into the tape player.

"Oh, and Ace..." Kevin continues, turning his head slightly. "This probably doesn't mean much, but... I'm proud of you too, kiddo."

"Thanks." You smile as you hit play on the tape, as you and your mentor drive back to the city together. You've considered Kevin Omega to be a lot of different things over the years. A hero, to a teacher, to a bastard, to an enemy. But you rarely spared a thought for Kevin Hickland, the man behind the mask, until today. You were granted a glimpse behind the facade over the course of today's events, and now there's something you can consider Kevin Hickland. Not an icon, a hero, a villain. But a human... and a friend.
