For House & Dominion: Civil War Quest

You are Sonia Reynard, Baron of Rioja. One small world among many in the House of Jerik-Dremine. From it you control the fates of a dozen others in the so called Smuggler's Run. With your new position you have the opportunity to become one of the most influential people in your House.

It is from this world that you draw your fleets and armies from. Both have seen their share of action with anti-piracy actions, the battle of Magdalena, and a follow up planetary assault. Now elements are deployed elsewhere helping to strengthen your allies and you own position in the process.

As the Dominion slips deeper into civil war you and those under your command have been fighting to protect your little corner of known space. The DRH1 Relay is for the moment secure, though the threat remains; House Bonrah and House Nasidum have begun planning an attack to retake the area early in the next year.

Knight Captain Katherine Drake is your fleet's Wing Commander.

Uyi Rna is the General of your Army and is overseeing upgrades to your army.

Wiremu Tama is the admiral of your Fleet. His efforts are now focused on preparing your forces to repel the upcoming invasion.

Fadila Saqqaf is your leading diplomatic adviser. It's been with her help that you've been able to delegate responsibilities in the newly annexed territories.

Chide Dlam'ard, the Governor of Rioja is keeping busy with the establishment and expansion of the new planetary capital.

While you're busy planning fleet expansion to help counter the coming invasion, you've also tried to keep up to date with your far flung subordinates.

Daska Rna is leading a large fleet with elements drawn from your forces and the home fleet. With the assistance of a gravity well generator provided by House Ber'helum they've been attempting to intercept heavy weapons before House Nasidum or Che'len can acquire them. They've recovered several Iratar built siege cannons but Nasidum has been intercepting convoys longer. They're known to have made off with many such weapons in the weeks before Daska deployed.

A small unit deployed to the neighbouring DRH 2 relay have been helping to drive off pirates and privateers plaguing the space lanes there.

Near Helios space Wing Commanders Hera Boosalis and Phas Rah'ne have had the best luck up until recently. Their raids have hurt House Bonrah, its allies and Aries, while strengthening your relations with Helios and Ceres.

That is until contact was lost with Hera's Wing while on patrol.

The mixed Battleship squadron assigned to assist them in an emergency has managed to make its way back to a friendly base after losing three ships. They report that the attack wing was engaged by an enemy unit comprised largely of Dragoon class attack cruisers fitted with afterburners.
Your forces were unable to outrun them and were at a disadvantage in terms of firepower.

Recon has confirmed that the enemy unit looted the battle site shortly afterwards and made off with several of the newer Vengeance type attack cruisers. It's difficult to tell from the debris but other ships capable of mounting afterburners may also have been salvaged.

Intel has been quick to confirm that many of the starship crews were able to use their emergency teleporters to survive. Greater than half have landed on worlds with rather poor relations with you and Helios, including the lost Wing's command staff.

All crew from 3 attack ships and 1 battleship have been lost. Fortunately the raiding fleets were not operating at full crew capacity, their commanders leaving non-essentials behind to help with station and ship repairs. Had they been at full capacity many more would have died.

Currently your two silent hunters are assisting in recovery operations, picking up those people you can reach.

It's known that the captured are in the custody of one of Bonrah's vassals, though their exact location is unknown.

Do you want to focus the efforts of your special forces and Intel assets on finding the crews? Another route would be prisoner exchange. You've captured people of value to other Houses, a trade is not out of the question but would give away just what House your attack wings are part of.
Your people are being employed as Helios Privateers, you could ask Helios to negotiate a prisoner exchange but this will take longer.

As Privateers they should be treated fairly enough, you could leave them for the moment and focus your efforts on finding the unit that destroyed the attack wing.

>Your orders?
>>
>>46292298
I've got a vote for a prisoner exchange. We've done enough to gain the favor of Helios, and we don't have to risk more in getting them back.
>>
>>46292298
Find the unit that did it first. While I hate to leave men out there that unit will be more trouble the longer we leave it.
>>
>>46292298
Ask Helios do the prisoner exchange.

>enemy elite unit
We should probably try to find out more about them before we try to hunt them down.

Good thing we have a load of prisoners.Helios prisoner exchange is my vote. Out of curiosity is there a greater chance if it wasn't Helios doing the exchange but us of them buggering us over, because of us being a minor (and for them particularly irksome) house. I mean we have their prisoners but we would in that case still be seen as inferiors as opposed to peers, and in the big picture its not so much personnel for a major house. Again just curious.

>Do orange and dark yellow mean different thing? Or did we lose the sledge? Also what's the difference between grey and not-quite-black?

There is no yellow, that's an optical illusion.

It would be easiest to just to do a black background for missing ships but then I'd need to change the text colour every time to keep it from being wiped by the fill command.
>>
>>46292298
>>Your orders?
Ask Helios to do the prisoner exchange. Afterwards, transfer some of our prisoners to Helios to replace what they lost.
>>
>>46292697
Y'know thinking of all the chaos and pain we've wrought upon our enemies, usually in ridiculous disproportion, Hera's wing being lost, especially with many experience personnel being recoverable (in either the long or short term), doesn't seem so bad. Not just in terms of the raids but everything since this civil war kicked off. It seemed a massive loss especially with the cliffhanger(ish) ending last thread, but when I think on it now not so bad at all. Does that seem callous? Does Reynard feel the same, does she think she's becoming indifferent more and more?
>>
>>46292635
>Out of curiosity is there a greater chance if it wasn't Helios doing the exchange but us of them buggering us over, because of us being a minor house.
Probably not. The worst they might do is refuse or ask for more people.

What it would do is confirm that your house is directly working against Bonrah's interests in the region as opposed to a well equipped mercenary band.

>>46292837
>Does that seem callous?
Earlier in the House's history this would have been a devastating loss just in terms of ships, regardless of the disproportionate casualties they've inflicted. It's not great but its one you can weather now that your economy can replace ships easily.
Had you lost the crews it would have been bad, but again you're reaching the point where your House can take the losses.

>Does Reynard feel the same, does she think she's becoming indifferent more and more?
That is ultimately up to you guys. There is more of a gap forming as she personally knows less and less of the people being deployed.

It looks like we're going with Helios doing the prisoner exchange. Last minute objections?
>>
>>46292298
I don't suppose we could offer a prisoner exchange with Bonrah?
>>
>>46292837
>Does Reynard feel the same, does she think she's becoming indifferent more and more?

Sonia seems to care a lot more about people she's actually met, no matter how brief that meeting was. It's likely a result of players filing losses away as little more than a number on our DM's notepad.
>>
>>46292298
If a prisoner exchange is to be done we should ask Helios because I want to focus on finding the unit that did this and Salvaging the fuck out of them.
>>
>>46293220
>That is ultimately up to you guys. There is more of a gap forming as she personally knows less and less of the people being deployed.
This is something we should discuss them, then.

This was the first complete loss at this scale. I, for one, was quite shocked when it happend. In my opinion, Sonia should be shocked even more so. She doesn’t want to lose people, and while she may understand that loss is a part of war quite well, such a drastic loss has quite an impact on her mind. And not just because of all the lost ships.

>>46293266
True, to an extent. She herself also sees most losses only as numbers on a paper. But I think she has demonstrated that she cares about people far more than others in her position.
>>
>>46293407
>Sonia should be shocked even more so
Agreed. We really need to find out what happened.

>But I think she has demonstrated that she cares about people far more than others in her position.
Most commanders we've met so far cared a great deal about their troops. Winifred regularly interacted with Sonia before she was even knight, although it might have been easier back then because J-D's expeditionary forces at that point were smaller than what we've parked around most planets these days.
>>
I think we should direct Daska towards annihilating the group that did this and supply her with any ships she needs.
>>
>>46293223
That's one method of doing so yourself. They could acquire them from their vassal and trade for people of theirs you've captured.
Regardless of who does it, people are going to get shuffled around.

You contact Helios via one of the most secure channels you can get and request that they or an ally of theirs negotioate a prisoner exchange. You've captured more than enough prisoners for them to make this possible.

They're not entirely thrilled about doing an above board exchange, especially for such a small number. They're not officially at war with Bonrah yet with both continuing to use proxies to better position themselves for the inevitable. The numbers ending up in either sides prisoner of war camps would tend to disagree.

"The names and id's of your people have been added to a list of those requested for an exchange taking place in a month's time. If all goes well they should be cleared to return to your forces within five week's time."

The wait time is a bit irksome but it's the safer way of getting them back.

>>46293666
Daska is currently on a high priority mission. You'd be effectively trying to overrule orders from the Earl.

With time available until the prisoner exchange did you want to assign any of your special forces to tracking down the enemy unit responsible for the damage to your fleet?

Special forces:
2x Power cell Marine units
2x Commando Recon Team
1x Commando Team

2x Silent Hunters
1x Captured ship with up to date IFF
>>
>>46293666
There are a ton of "elite" wings and fleets in a major house. Its one thing if they threaten future operations in a specific region (which they may and it'd be nice to scout them out) but revenge is stupid. They're a small part of a giant monolith, and its not like they committed any war crimes against our forces or anything like that. Don't get me wrong I'm a petty person who likes revenge, but deploying Daska with a task force just for that is juvenile though.
>>
>>46293775
>With time available until the prisoner exchange did you want to assign any of your special forces to tracking down the enemy unit responsible for the damage to your fleet?

Yes. All of them. Not only did they just humiliate us at our own game but they took valuable ships from us. Thus we will humiliate them in turn and take THEIR ships from them.
>>
>>46293775
>>46293778
Kinda goes along with my response, but I'd like the silent hunters to try and scout them out, see whats what. I don't see us commandeering one of their vessels so the spec ops teams probably arn't needed, its more their position that seems important. Actually maybe just one silent hunter? What if we want to stealthily deploy one of the commando teams somewhere else? Probably shouldn't have both silent hunters out.

So does anyone have any further plans for how we will defend DRH1? Cause I had a little something in mind that goes into what we discussed earlier what with lots of mines and ambushing the Bonrah/Helios fleet.

However, as usual, it may be a tad ambitious.
>>
>>46294862
What was it ya madman?
>>
>>46294862
>So does anyone have any further plans for how we will defend DRH1?
I would prefer to start harassing the Helios fleet before they enter DRH1. It would probably a good idea to coordinate other strikes against enemy territory to coincide with this attack, as it seems several enemy Houses will provide a significant number of ships.

>Mines
I think it will mostly be highly inefficient. We have a lot of space to cover, and if we get the idea to mine the major transit route, we won't be able to avoid civilian casualties, and most likely severely annoy the navigators guild on top of that.

Speaking of the guild, are they still in talks with the nav hazard zone aliens?
>>
>>46294862
Sounds fun, I have a few ideas, admittedly of dubious quality, as well. That's such a huge topic though I feel it almost deserves an entire thread dedicated to it (or a section near the end of a thread). Otherwise I feel it would distract almost too much from whats going on. That and while general ideas are great I'm worried that our plans may not survive contact with the enemy haha. I shouldn't say that though we've had a few 'just as planned' moments, and others that turned out well enough we could bluff another noble into believing we orchestrated everything. I love being part of innovative (read:underhanded) strategies that make our opposing peers yell Bullshit! Especially when they don't blow up in our faces! Poor Winifred.
>>

Minefield + Ber'helum gravity gen.

Force them to drop out RIGHT in the middle of a truly gargantuan field and navigate it in real-space.

Plasma Cannon spam with those new frigate plasma (shield piercing if we manage to get that developed in time.)

Or maybe we can score some Veckron torps somewhere and just go ham on their fleet.
>>
>>46295053
>>46295059
I came up with in in 4 stages. And it will substantial help from Helios and Ber'Helum

Stage 1: Distraction
A invasion fleet is launched from DRH1 into the other relays and the South Reach. The mission to drive out any forces hostile to Ber'Helum and Helios. This serves into stage 2 as well as the fleet will encourage the enemy to attack and hit the invasion in the back, and keep it from cleaning the Relays out of their staging grounds.

Stage 2: Bait
While stage 1 one is underway we begin this one by leaking secret information to enemy spy about a defensive base we are building at the mouth of the DRH1 to the Centri cluster. A base that currently serves as the central command for the Relay invasion fleet and all the local Houses in DRH1, supply depot for said fleet AND a fleet parking space for many many many unmaned ships to be used as replacement for the invasion and eventually as the bases own fleet. However the leaked info makes it clear that the base is not finished with the exception of the central command base, a few asteroid fortresses (With more being built) and some mines. It is vulnerable. This will attrack the enemy fleet once they invade to try capture it along with plenty of ships and supplies and take out much of our high command in one blow. All part of the plan. The base is actually far more prepared than the information implies. Most of the asteroids that are still waiting to be converted to fortresses have been prepared ahead of time and are fully ready for combat yet hidden by holographic camo. Stored mines are ready to be put in place from the stores as well. And most importantly. The parked ships? All of them actually manned by skeleton crews.

con
>>
>>46295059
I feel that concerted strikes, rather than harassment, would do us more good. I believe the crux of this conflict will probably come from hitting the enemies dangerous assets (asteroid forts of doom, etc.) when their in their own territory before their aware of us(or can effectively counter at least). While it could have merit harassment right around the time the enemy mobilizes could tip our hand. As for mines I believe there was only certain routes our enemies could bring their main force through? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong. But anyway mines deployed in their route combined with gravity well generator = profit, or so it was discussed. Again perhaps not viable, but I believe the consensus (subject to change and 'Oh God they brought what with them!') was to do a preemptive strike on their heavy assets.
>>
>>46295265
Stage 3: Ambush
So the enemy invades, seeking to take out this huge target that can not fully defend itself yet and rush to crush the Relay invasion fleet in a massive pincer. They arrive and begin their attack on the base. And then all goes so wrong. As they draw in the asteroid bases reveal themselves, skeleton crews activate dormant and parked ships and mine fields are activated. The state is set for the ambush. Due to the invasion and large amount of supplies moving through the Relay we will most likely be able to peal away a lot of ships passing through. Ships that can be hidden away in navigational hazards and Nebulas and the like. Ships that no one but we knows about. Ship that now appears at the back of the enemy fleet. Acting as a hammer to the anvil of the prepared base.

Stage 4: Reserves
A final fourth fleet should in the meantime remain in reserve and react to the events as they happen. Either strengthen the invasion fleet if we manage to deal with our own hostile invasion or rush back to DRH to reinforce us against a weakened enemy.

Then we mop up.

Ofcourse we will need a lot of support from other Houses. Both ships and supplies and crews not mentioning special stuff like anti matter torpedoes and gravity generators. The later being instrumental in trapping the enemy force against the Hammer and the Anvil.

What could possibly go wrong?
>>
Working together Intel and a Silent Hunter are able to make quicker progress than they might have on their own.

"Usually it takes a day or two just to go between systems via civilian or smuggler channels. This is much faster."

Within a few days they've positively identified what House and unit to look for. The ships were from the 1st Knights Wing of House Illyria, a minor ally of Bonrah. They're lead by Knight Captain Florijan Ĺ ime, a veteran of the Warlords Campaign.

It is a 36 ship all Knight, all attack cruiser unit, though they keep a signifigant reserve of ships and pilots ready at any given time to keep their numbers at full strength. Their House holds true to older traditions of only Knights have access to Light or Attack Cruiser grade starships.
They were recently refit from Knight class Light Cruisers to Dragoon class attack cruisers and have been drilling with them extensively.

Since their shakedown the unit has begun conducting patrols into increasingly unstable areas. They primarily target pirate or privateer forces while attempting to maintain superiority in numbers or tonnage. With their ship's relatively light weight they can generally out fight any opponent they encounter following these guidelines.

Current whereabouts are unknown as they prefer to stay mobile while away from home.

Intel doesn't know their current location but they do know where to find their home base back in House Illyria.

You could try to attack their base to disrupt their reserves but odds are their regular House forces will be only a short distance away.
Likewise an ambush while they leave or return may be possible but would take you very close to Bonrah space.

With continued surveillance one of your Silent Hunters could pick them up eventually and shadow them but this will take time.

Your orders?
>>
>>46295625
Keep an eye on them, forward the intel to Helios, send the commanding officer an anonymous gift (not the deadly kind), congratulating him on the impressive performance of his unit and voice our hope we'll be able to fight with him against the enemies of the dominion once this conflict is over.
>>
>>46295182
>Or maybe we can score some Veckron torps somewhere and just go ham on their fleet.
I know I was for it before but I have come to realize that using Veckrons in DRH1 would probably be really bad. The Relay is already immensely damaged from the Faction Wars without us adding. Also this is our home ground. Only do shit like this in other peoples backyard.

>>46295612
Besides everything? Probably a lot but hey! High risk, high reward!

>>46295625
Counter surveillance them with a Hunter. If they make it close to any larger allied force we can warn them so they and wreak their shit.
>>
>>46295390
This is a well thought out plan, but aspects of it make me uncomfortable. I see how this plan fundamentally allows the enemy force to come to us instead of intercepting them en route. This has advantages in that the ambush site can be better prepared, and our forces will benefit from the nearer logistics/reserves. However It has some pretty big ifs. The enemy movements.offensive is believed by them to still be a secret. The distraction part of the plan may cause them to re-evaluate, and while some gains can be made I feel we should worry about territory gains only after dealing with most of the enemy capacity. The problem with the Bait is that when the enemy brings and readys their force in full for deployment they can attack and spread their forces along multiple fronts, and a prepared and united enemy fleet, with their projected numbers, would still overwhelm us even with the ambush. They bringing some big dick forces to avenge their embarrassment. One problem with the bait is with all the steps you laid out and the premise well... they could fall for it but it seems kind of obviously a trap too. Going for them in their territory is risky too but I feel striking when their forces are unprepared and separated (especially with gravity well malarkey) is our best chance, especially if we know their time frame and do cloaked ship scouting. Anyway I could be completely wrong but I feel having just the one ambush site, so close to our vulnerable territory, and allowing them to assemble their full force would be detrimental rather than a plus. That and I wonder at our ability to construct our own asteroid forts in that time. Regardless of what we do eventually decide on, even if its full offensive, I feel your idea of having an ambush on the homefront with whatever defensive reserves we leave could have great merit, especially if the offensive is interupted and enemy elements attack uncoordinated
>>
>>46295729
I like this. After all we're assessing them for the threat they are, if its helios that takes action that's fine by me too. I feel that their dangerous enough that if they're far enough from bonrah it may be worth it to bushwhack them but again we'd only know that from observing.
>>
Finally caught a thread live,

Now am I the only person wondering if we can really trust the information given to us by Myrish Avun?

I mean we are fully prepared to believe she would give us the information when her fleet is going to attack us?
sure we might be friends and helped each other but this is her betraying her own house, at the very least we should have our house intel corroborating the information she gave us.
if it were me I would give sonia a false date of when the invasion would begin or even a completely wrong direction of where it would come from so the fleets would be out of position.
>>
>>46296036
I think she's largely dissatisfied with affairs in her house/alliance and feels very personally indebted to us. The larger Houses are throwing around a number of big fleets and sending off others once they've been rushed to completion. They don't know for sure if any of the new Avalanche Class will be sent there.

Phas Rah'ne has reorganised the unit with recovered pilots given ships from the reserve and placed under her command. Currently they're operating at 4 squadron strength.
The battleship and battlecruiser squadron will be back up to full strength soon thanks to reserve ships. They're mainly waiting for more mercenary crew to become available.

>Secure Heavy Carrier specs (2 of ?)
Results: Data Recovered! While the performance of the Recon Teams were fairly average, their insertion via the captured ship greatly assisted in helping them reach objectives more quickly and easily. Thanks to this it's possible that their intrusion may not be noticed until some time after their departure.

The teams have escaped cleanly but their ship IFF codes are no longer valid at higher security facilities. The older codes will only be of use at lower security sites where they're not updated as often.

A fast troop or refugee transport ship meant for blockade running built off a light weight battlecruiser frame.
A modified mining ship with a great big weapon emitter up front and 20 odd thrust vectoring sublight engines.
A Fast Battleship that looks a little bit like the Cobra from Elite Dangerous.
A knockoff copy of a Krath Frigate.

That mining ship with the vectoring sublight engines sounds interesting, how maneuverable is it? Whats the stats on the fast battleship. For the krath knockoff does being a cheap copy of a cheap copy make it ridiculously affordable?
>>
>>46300821
>Do they also sell regular mining ships?
"Regular" might be stretching the term a bit but yes they do sell some for mining, though they're not as efficient as others and not self sufficient. They need modified support ships to transport mined materials for processing. Unlike larger Mining Barges this one has have no internal storage capacity for mined materials.

>>46301008
>That mining ship with the vectoring sublight engines sounds interesting, how maneuverable is it?
Fast Battleship grade. It's in the same size range but is a bit bulkier. Pic related. Havn't got my scanner hooked up.
Saw this thing in a trippy dream. When I got closer I saw that the thrust vectoring engines were actually salvage corvettes.

>Whats the stats on the fast battleship.
Well enough armored, with customisable weapons. Default isn't that well armed by modern standards.

>For the krath knockoff does being a cheap copy of a cheap copy make it ridiculously affordable?
You may be thinking of the Kavarian Firestorm series of Frigates. I think you only encountered Krath Frigates during the Lat'tham Coup where they acted as escorts and scouts for the battlecruisers. This one is armed with 4 e-beam turrets, though they're nowhere near as powerful as actual Krath weapons.

Speaking of the Houses in the area, would any of them be interested in a few of our Dusk IIs?

Also, a few threads back we talked about the money we'd need to raise for a fleet. I think the number was 30 billion.

Instead of completely wrecking our economy, why don't we simply raise an additional tax? It would be less than 30 future monies stretched over 6 months per J-D citizen in DRH1.

So, that alien empire currently squatting on dominion land in drh1 has huge accelerator stations capable of getting ships longer than 1km close to c.

They're also completely fucked once the civil war is over.

Why not ask them to lend us a few of these gigantic scrap cannons for the duration of the civil war in return for favourable terms when it comes to their treatment by the dominion?

I'm sure we can work something out that benefits both sides.
>>
>>46301490
Yes it just takes more power the bigger and more convincing the hologram you want to project. In this case it would probably mean ripping the weapons off that Frigate.

Last game's survey.

Antimatter weapon deployment method:
>Helios II Medium (AM Torpedo)
>Cloaked Fast BS

No demand for the Deci Torpedo Platform so it will not be produced. Helios had by far the most votes if it needed to be put into production.

Helios was top voted for both versions of the Deci siege weapon ship. The light siege cannon and 2 plasma cannon versions were tied so that's troubling.

Players voted 15 to 4 against using the rust bio-weapon. 6 were for offering it to Ber'helum.

You're buying a total of 6 suits of Recon Light Power armor for your distant teams, though many people would have been fine with just 3.

What does our House think about the Surakeh model of having three separate military forces per planet, instead of the usual two?
>>
>>46302099
>Wasn't that limited to stun weapons?
Yes and that's restricted to veterans.

Most veterans with real experience would know how to circumvent such safeguards but getting caught doing so would get them in serious trouble.

>What does our House think about the Surakeh model of having three separate military forces per planet, instead of the usual two?
That it's a mess that could easily turn into an uprising at the drop of a hat. However it does mean there is a much larger percentage of the population under arms making a direct invasion very difficult. It would let the militia fortify the cities while the PDF stays mobile with tanks and armored vehicles.

Winifred's relationship with the militia is another thing the House isn't happy about as it gives her far more control over the planet than a Baron is supposed to have. If she's ever replaced or the unimaginable happens and she retires there may not be anyone able to hold them in check.

>TSTG, what is our current personal standing within the House?
Much better now that you've been Baron of Rioja for awhile and haven't implemented serious democratic reforms. The addition of Magdalena has been seen as a boon, but picking up that strip of territory along the other major trade lane has not. Considerable resources are being invested in the construction of the support stations in the area. Resources that could be used to better fortify the Run or Magdalena, or sold to allied Houses.

>what is our standing like with our military forces / people living under our rule?
Most see you as a bit crazy for investing so much into Rioja to hurry its development along. That opinion is stronger among those that know Rioja's financial state.

Members of the military hold generally positive opinions with your dedication to keeping them well trained and equipped. Again mostly out of your own pocket.
With the tendency to spend time training with the special forces and some of the Attack Wings, they have the highest opinion and know that you wouldn't needlessly throw their lives away.

The Terran refugees don't think overly well of you, seeing you as a benevolent dictator. Someone that might be a temporary one at that depending on how the war goes.

Shallan refugees think you're alright.

>Are they generally more loyal to us personally or the House?
The House has been providing financial incentives for people from the homeworlds to move to Rioja. Usually this includes guaranteed jobs. For the moment I would say that up to a quarter of your military is more loyal to you than the House.

>>
>>46308152
>The Terran refugees don't think overly well of you, seeing you as a benevolent dictator.

Once the civil war is over, we could offer to relocate them to Surakeh, or Veritas if they're still too unhappy with the way things work on Rioja.

When the Neeran war is over, we could also offer transportation back to Terran space. We've bought some land on planets devastated by Neeran attacks, so we could even offer incentives to go back.

If the idea of moving planets with the gravity well ships works out, we could offer the various other government discounts in return for sensible amounts of land on the new habitable planets. It doesn't even have to be much, just enough to get a foot in the door.

Unless it were stealthed a KKV would be detected before it could impact and might be diverted with repulsors. Sending more of them might overwhelm the defenders ability to deal with but you'd need a much larger fleet to set this up quickly increasing chances of detection before hand.

>>46308969
>Did we get those submarines?
No, there didn't seem to be a lot of interest in it?

In response to demands from allied Houses the Ruling House has acquiesced to allowing additional access to diplomatic talks with the Gelsan and Navigator's Guild.

The Gelsan wish to maintain their claims to systems they currently occupy even after the region becomes safe for FTL travel in the future. They're prepared to pay valuable resources and rare elements that they can't currently make use of as tribute in return for the protection and maintenance of those claims. Aside from that tribute they would be free to conduct whatever trade they want.

As part of this deal the Guild would eventually establish a network of emergency teleporter and receiver systems allowing near instantaneous travel between their worlds. These would connect to designated trade hubs outside their space maintained by the guild as a neutral party.

Given the alternatives the Gelsan are prepared to take the risks associated with using teleporters. The possibility of dying from teleport shock isn't that much different from chances of things going wrong in deep space at high sublight speeds.

Your reaction to these developments?
What do you want for your House and the Run alliance out of these negotiations?
>>
>>46309267
>safe for FTL travel in the future
When is that estimated to happen?
Do the Gelsan require the same worlds as the dominion species?
Have they claimed any old colonies?

>What do you want for your House and the Run alliance out of these negotiations?
To make sure we're not getting surprised by a hostile fleet from their territory.

Maybe a few additional systems, if possible.
Perhaps even a population boost if their physiology and culture is compatible.

They should be required to sign the factions treaty.
>>
>>46309267
>Your reaction to these developments?
Eventually the Gelsan trade lines will be bad for us since it will become a better trade line than the Smugglers run so that's bad. Not that I think that will happen anytime soon. Don't suppose the RH is enforcing their independance with the force of arms? I mean they aren't officially part of the Dominion as either a House or a vassal so they should be fair game right? I am sure there are a lot of planets there that we could conquer eventually. What with them being so close to us and limited in what they can do. But again, depends on just when the Nav Hazard disappears.

>What do you want for your House and the Run alliance out of these negotiations?
Rare resources deal perhaps? Ensure that the Rare resources that pass through from their territory has to be refined by our ally in the Run that can do that. Or that they can't undercut the run produced Rare.

Speaking of rare. What became of the Artificial rare resources production facility prototype?

>When is that estimated to happen?
Most of it should be safe within the next 150 years. The really bad sections will still take another 300 or more.

>Do the Gelsan require the same worlds as the dominion species?
They have a rather broad range of planets they can inhabit. For the most part they're limited by the need to establish contained artificial environments to grow the foodstuffs they need to eat.

>Have they claimed any old colonies?
Yes though they've been fine with the descendants of those colonies living on their worlds provided they don't cause trouble.

>To make sure we're not getting surprised by a hostile fleet from their territory.
Condition added: Observer missions

>Maybe a few additional systems, if possible.
The Ruling House did expect there would need to be some systems towards the edges of their space handed over to nearby Houses. While exact numbers are open to debate it's something all sides are aware of and plan to work on.

>Perhaps even a population boost if their physiology and culture is compatible.
For your worlds you mean? Or for some of your people to live on theirs? Or both?

>They should be required to sign the factions treaty.
This is mandatory.

>>46309508
>Eventually the Gelsan trade lines will be bad for us since it will become a better trade line than the Smugglers run so that's bad. Not that I think that will happen anytime soon.
Indeed. Some of the best FTL lanes were the hardest hit in the faction wars fighting.

>they aren't officially part of the Dominion as either a House or a vassal
They would be designated a Dominion protectorate.

>Rare resources deal perhaps? [...] has to be refined by our ally in the Run
Interesting. Certainly doable.

>What became of the Artificial rare resources production facility prototype?
It's producing small amounts at a steady rate. While not enough to supply wartime production its still enough to be noticeable.

>>46309807
>How much space do these gelsan actually control?
>>
>>46309267
The Gelsan probably want better ships than they have for system defence. Veritas probably still has stockpiles of their older STL craft, which are slightly outdated but still among the best designs for combat ships without FTL the Dominion has, and they are probably in need of resources.

So why not quietly remind both sides there's possibly a deal available that could be beneficial to both sides?
>>
>>46310003
Pic related, there is some impassible territory above and below the Run that they also have but can't show.

The 4 dots indicate trade points that were established with local pirates and smugglers. Only one of these were discovered during the Smugggler's Run campaign because the Guild has them listed as being in unsafe systems.

Contrary to popular belief they do have access to FTL communications which were taken from the Kavarians.

>More people to sell stuff to. Which seems to be already happening.
Trade with them dropped off since you conquered the Run because the Guild didn't know about the other trade points.

>Information about what their industry produces would be useful?
Most personal items would not be particularly useful to Faction species. They do produce a lot of repulsors though which are always in demand. Their newer ones are roughly analogous in power to current Faction models.
They may be able to sell high efficiency sublight drives as well. These would not be compatible with high manuver drives but would be good for cloaked ships or those on long range missions.

>>46309807
>I do like the idea of getting one of their acceleration gates and using it to bombard the fleet that's incoming.
You quietly pass this along to the Ruling House.

>>46310003
>Indeed. Some of the best FTL lanes were the hardest hit in the faction wars fighting.

Request space along these lanes.

>For your worlds you mean? Or for some of your people to live on theirs? Or both?
I would assume for our worlds but considering their worlds are pretty safe from large scale invasion for at least a century or so, I can definitely see some of the refugees being interested in settling there.

>They have a rather broad range of planets they can inhabit.
Could we use them establish colonies on worlds in house territory that were unfeasible to use so far?

>map

They seem to be very proficient at expansion without having ftl available, could we hire them to establish dominion colonies or operations in the other hazard zones.

They're in the center of Gelsan territory and won't be clear for +300 years. I'm not sure such a claim would be viable for that long.

>Could we use them establish colonies on worlds in house territory that were unfeasible to use so far?
Possibly.

>How quickly do they colonize territory?
Actual colonization is rather slow but they've aggressively expanded their accelerator network. This would not have been possible without the wreckage of many many Kavarian super heavies from the Faction Wars.
Think playing hivers in SotS. You can actually expand rather fast if you do it right.

>could we hire them to establish dominion colonies or operations in the other hazard zones.
Possibly, though it would not be cheap to do so.

You'll put forward these numbers as part of the request for your House.

>>46309807
>acceleration gates and using it to bombard the fleet that's incoming.
The of the 4 accelerators shown on the map above only 1 is in what the guild considers a safe area for use. As a result the other 3 aren't really needed at the moment. You could loadup your Anchorage with a salvage team, send them in and prep one of them to be moved out of the Run. Setup time after its extracted would be a bitch but it would be possible.

Did you want to volunteer this option to the Ruling House?

Stage 1 is plausible.

Stage 2 would require the establishment of bases and forts that there just may not be time for. Unless you bring in stations from other places.

The support stations you're already building along the main trade lane would be an ideal substitute. It's also far enough away from the nav stations yet close enough to the lane to be a plausible point for a starship depot.

Fleet building.
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/45536738/#p45580315

50 Support Units will be reserved for the Gelsan accelerator if you're still ok with grabbing it. The Ruling House will also be providing a good deal of support for it. This number will probably be reduced.

10 Support units are being reserved for the capture of enemy ships.

5 SU's for a Helios Medium with AM Torp launcher
3 SU for Cloaked Battleships with AM Torpedo / mine layers

Remaining SU's: 57

You don't have to use all of them up at once. You may want to build up in stages.

>>
>>46312265
The Run alliance is hoping to build up respectable forces of assault corvettes in time. Reserves and defense fleets are being augmented with newer attack cruisers and frigates.
Kadnil wants to buy or build a wing of the new plasma Frigates you're developing to support their heavy cruiser.

Many Houses outside the Run are also upgrading most corvette units to mixed units.

Ber'helum plans to commit one gravity well generator and a dozen new model medium cruisers once your shipyards have produced enough. They're also bringing in more fast battleships, older corvette units and support craft.

Ruling House plans to commit two super heavies and their support fleets but they haven't been upgraded with siege weaponry. These fleets will be rushed to the area when it looks like the enemy fleets are mobilising as they're still needed elsewhere.

>Stage 2 would require the establishment of bases and forts that there just may not be time for. Unless you bring in stations from other places.
That was sort of the idea. Bring in forts and stations and disguise them using information and holographic camo or the like to make them seem like they are not ready for combat/still being built.

>50 Support Units will be reserved for the Gelsan accelerator if you're still ok with grabbing it
Do et.

>Remaining SU's: 57
I'd say we get ourselves 3 wings of Frigates, Bombard class. 12 SU

4 wings of Attack Cruisers. EC-Ks and Plasma Dusks for 24 SU

4 more squadrons of Battleships for 12 SU

Then we save the remaining 9 SU, and hope that the Accelerator requites about 11-31 less SU so we can bring in the Heavy gunship from South Reach.

What does Helios intend to bring if anything? Cause right now we need something to deal with the Mobile Fortress and something to take the edge off the enemies Super Heavy numbers.

Whoops, thought I included that.
They're comitted to keeping 4 Helios class Mediums and additional support ships in the relay at minimum to defend their interests. They may commit a heavy cruiser and fleet, it's hard to say right now.
>>
>>46312158
>50 Support Units will be reserved for the Gelsan accelerator if you're still ok with grabbing it.
I don't really want it. My original suggestion was:

Attack Cruiser wing = 6
Medium (modern Shukant) X 3 = 15
Battleship squadron X3 = 9
Carrier group X 3 = 6
Covrette wing x 4 = 12
Assault corvette x 6 = 60
Frigate wing X 1 = 4

>>
>>46313367
>How mobile and protected can we get it by the time the enemy fleet is supposed to arrive?
Mobile enough to make FTL jumps but not much more.

As for protected you could probably arm it with plenty of torpedo batteries to fill in for missing weaponry. There should still be some heavy phase cannon arrays on them but not as many as on a fully operational Mega class.
Once deployed it won't be able to fire any of its energy weapon down range but could still use them to the sides and aft. A few shield platforms or Medium Cruisers mounting planetary shields would increase its survivability.

>How much firepower can we expect? Scorcher level? More than that Neeran SH with the repulsor?

It'll be operating like a giant scrap cannon, only one that doesn't have a real limitation on the size of the projectiles. It's meant to only accelerate ships at 20-30 gravities since that's what most common inertial compensators on ships can handle. Mind you it can do that for objects the size of a mining barge rather than a corvette. It should do quite a bit of damage.

You could have SP Torpedoes carried on a kinetic penetrator. If you mean giving a projectile larger than a battleship a shield piercing coating then I hate to break it to you but you don't have enough torpedoes to cannibalize for such a project.

The conflict between the Ruling House, Che'len and Ber'helum has officially halted. Iratar has stopped exports of siege weapons to the Dominion claiming that they're needed to help fight the Neeran. They have publicly stated they plan to begin negotiations with the "Leadership of the Dominion" in the future to discuss the "possibility of supporting the legitimate government."

With the new ACS class finally reaching production they have a legitimate excuse. The first pair have left for Republic space to be fitted with the latest plasma cannons. The next two will be equipped with Iratar weaponry for comparison testing.

Daska's fleet has repeatedly engaged House Nasidum elements and fought off attempts to destroy both the gravity well generator and Majestic. While looking a bit worn the fleet has returned to the capital.
Parades were more subdued given the number that have happened in the past year. Skirmishing around the borders of the homeworlds have been a constant.

With the success of the campaign and valuable assets being secured Daska has been named Baron of PadiĹź in South Reach. Winifred could use the support there. The House would also rather have more than one Baron in the region should Winifred ever cause problems there. It's unlikely but old concerns still linger.

A POW transfer has resulted in the return of Hera Boosalis and other officers captured. The Earl has requested that both unit commanders return to the capital for promotions and possible reassignment.

You've received a message from the Earl; Forbearance is to be prepared for immediate deployment to the homeworlds in order to take part in a campaign against House Xygen. The Ruling House and Karbos want to launch a combined counter offensive in the region to stall Xygen's advance.

Daska will be escorting captured weapons to be installed on Forbearance while on the way to South Reach.
>>
>>46317190
That's the point actually. To many Corvettes and not enough other ships. I mean let's be honest. Corvettes are just about cannon fodder when it comes to ships. The literary thousands of destroyed Corvettes we've left in our trail is proof of that. Now Assault Corvettes are not all that bad but the problem is they need experienced crews to get the most out of them and they are a sink when it comes to SU seeing as we can get almost twice their numbers in Cruisers for the same price.

>>46317402
>Forbearance is to be prepared for immediate deployment
Well we aren't happy about this but if it has to go then it has to go. Just mention that we would be happy if it returns to DRH1 in time for the invasion since we would very much like the territory here to remain ours and it will be hard enough as it is with it here, much less without it.
>>
6 Iratar siege weapons were recovered for the House! Others were given to Ber'helum in return for use of the Gravity well.

2 are being put in reserve while the other 4 are to be fitted to Forbearance ASAP for its upcoming campaign.
Two of the turrets on the super heavy are being replaced. The new ones will each mount a pair of Iratar siege weapons. What type of turrets do you want prepared before Daksa arrives with the guns?

>Armored turret
This turret will shrug off most weapons fire with little difficulty. Even SP Torpedeoes will need to score direct hits on the gun barrels to cause any damage. This turret can only elevate the big guns 30 degress from the plane of the ship requiring the ship roll or maneuver if it's outside that range.
The Turret designers have countered that a Super would need to roll or maneuver anyways to bring both the dorsal and ventral siege weapons to bear on a target.

>High traverse turret
With less armor than its competitor this turret is based off point defense weapons allowing it to elevate both guns beyond 90 degress. There are concerns that this turret type is a bigger target and that combined with mounting less armor it may not last as long in battle.
The Design team is of the opinion that against it's intended enemy (the Neeran) its secondary shielding should be more than adequate protection.

>Knight Commander L'ak Tenni [Dro'all]
A Knight from your generation who was usually deployed to the Shallan front on alternate rotations. L'ak Tenni is one of the first to be promoted to Knight Commander that did not take part in the Warlords campaign, having been stuck with the home fleet.
Not quite as comptetent as Daska statistics wise, L'ak has striven to compete with the other House expeditionary commanders from Winifred and Sonia's fleets.

One of the earliest cloaked battleship commanders in the House Kim has proven to be more capable of commanding large units than his peers. Combined with his cloaked starship experience he could be useful in the upcoming ambush attempt.

Another from the alternate fleet rotations, this Knight has a strong grasp of tactics but usually has the misfortune of being caught away from the action. Some have jokingly nicknamed his unit the cavalry as they're somewhat late to arrive to the real fight.

>Knight Captain Jehtot Kharbos [Dro'all]
Once holding the nickname of "Rookie" Jehtot was one of the House's first assault corvette pilots and has become highly experienced with how to utilise them.

Phas Rah'ne [Dro'all]

One thing the Forbearance yards have kept up with is the development of new turrets for siege weaponry. Having to build improvised ones hasn't exactly been easy but before the Civil war started they were preparing for eventual upgrades that might come with Alliance deployments. You've ordered the engineers to start work on preparing two armored turrets within minutes of being contacted by the Earl.

Even with everything else going on Daska arrives right on time, a heavy escort protecting the cargo.

"Good luck with everything Sonia. I hope I don't need to bring my fleet rushing back here in a few months to bail you out."

"Just don't let Winifred send my sister to drive you crazy." is your return comment.

A few days later Alex arrives with a small unit to take Command of the Forbearance fleet.
"Sorry to be taking so many of your ships away. I want to buy some of those Bombard Frigates when you can spare a few but with Forbearance going I don't want to draw off any more of your ships."

Done. You also pass along a message to Daska regarding Winifred and code words.

>How did their recent deployments go?
Daska's was non stop action, with crews barely having time to rest between missions.
"I'm glad I took Majestic. If the Neeran Carrier had been assigned to my fleet I would have been tempted to take it into the fighting."

Alex has mainly been fighting off raids, supporting intel efforts to protect the remaining Aries production data and briefly providing fire support for a larger fleet action.
"You know, regular peace and quiet."

>Any advice on enemy tactics and new ships?
Retreating forces are taking to the habit of leading pursuers into ECM traps. Short range jamming sites that can't be detected until the pursuit fleet has dropped out of FTL. If they were maintaining a close pursuit it's possible to walk right into an enemy cross fire.

>Ask how Mike is doing.
"He's good. Great even. Not looking for any promotions just trying to keep his personal life sorted out and keeping his trainees alive. He almost misses the crazy suicide missions."

Before Alex leaves you make sure he knows you'd like Forbearance back once it's finished its role in the fighting. Preferably before any heavy fighting breaks out in the region.

After finishing up paperwork with Fadila and Admiral Tama you find that there's an appointment with Tamoren Balle. You haven't had much time to talk to the Shallan assistant to the Governor with how busy things have been.

The shallan woman shrugs before sitting down. "I have time after this but you may be a bit busy once again."

She hits a button on her pad and sends you a secure file transfer.
"We had a bank robbery last week. That special unit you set up were able to trace and intercept them."

"Sounds like they're earning their pay."

"They are, it's the regular police forces we're worried about. The gang that pulled off the robbery were made up of Terran refugees. One of them had joined the city's police force a month or two before hand in order to provide security info about the bank."

"That's dedication to a heist." you admit.

>How come we've only run into organized crime from terran space? Are the other races more subtle?
The Dominion does things a bit differently. Members of the nobility tend to be involved at some level because of land ownership issues and because they tend to have money to move things forward. There's corruption and the like but for the most part they know how far is too far. Those that don't know those limits end up becoming convenient political scapegoats and are dealt with.
Most forms of organised crime in the Dominion that nobles are not involved in are treated as a threat to the stability of the planet. These can be crushed by military action championed by nobles or by the Governor and PDF. Things like that smuggling operation Sonia, Alex and Mike hit with a team of power cell marines.

One way or another someone in your House knows who to put the clamps to.

By comparison Terrans play hardball. Fortunately most of the nobles are more than happy to turn on someone that doesn't play by the rules while making themselves look good.

Rioja suffers from having a weak base among the nobility thanks to its rapid development, and someone owning way more land than they can look after. There isn't much natural Dominion corruption to keep others out.
Things here are TOO GOOD.

Really none of it is that simple but it's a good overview.

Sure.

As for awarding land on Rioja the newly knighted people promoted in the battle of Magdalena or the raiding fleets would seem to provide you plenty of options in addition to the commando teams.

It them becomes a question of how much land you'd want to part with and of that how developed is it? Smaller sections already built up in one of the cities? Those that are going to see development in the immediate future for residential or industrial use?

Larger sections of the expected rural areas?

I guess you could give them the choice of what to take. Giving them control of parts of the cities would be ideal if you wanted them to counter corruption in those areas. Odds are most Knights will want rural land to build up into estates.

Another idea that's come to mind for Knights or prospective Knights is the option to adopt a neighbourhood so to speak. They could help look after a particular region of a city to gain experience and to show that they're ready for the responsibility of gaining such land.
Thoughts on this?

The idea with letting people try their hand at managing a neighbourhood before they're required to do it is brilliant.

I'd say if we are to offer our own land that we should give them the choice of either Industrial land, residential land or rural land that are all slated for development. Your underworld contacts have had better luck than you would have suspected. Many are smugglers or mercenaries that were once captured and later employed by the House for their skills. Most that have left service with House logistics now work for companies out of Tourta or even Belu Fortress. It's fortunate you've built up better relations with them.

There at least three potential targets in the Smuggler's Run you've been provided with, one of them is on Rioja.

Send the scan to another cloning facility, scan up a brain, hook it up to some prothesis and let it regain consciousness.

Then shut off the input for a day and then come back and tell it that if it plays ball it'll get a new body, otherwise it can stew in the dark and pray for death.

The raid on the Rioja location is just approaching its target when a few dozen people try to make a run for it. They must have been tipped off.
Heavy police presence makes any escape for them difficult and soon most are brought under control. Two people are missing and believed to have escaped.

On one of the other planets in the run the raid is a resounding success. People and assets are captured and leads indicating a dozen other people involved are provided by those taken into custody.

The last site on Kaptlyn has more difficulty. Having been tipped off as well many more escape. A warehouse that was part of the complex was rigged with explosives and is blown up destroying some evidence. With the explosion the local PDF is now able to call it a terrorist attack providing more resources to hunt down those that escaped.

One Delayahu Braune apparently left word that he was leaving Rioja for an extended business trip. He left on time and as far as anyone else knows he was on the shuttle and passenger liner he booked passage on.
In reality he never left the planet's surface with Rufaro and Valeri quite expertly making him disappear. Given the length of time he's not expected to be back for there are no immediate concerns that he'll be listed as missing. This will also allow intel easier remote access to his records and finances.

Combined, everything seized from the raids should greatly help intel ferret out corruption in the months ahead. It's unlikely to have ties to everything but its a step in the right direction.

>We never got the story about the rest of the family from our parents.
Sonia's Mom doesn't really want to talk about it so you'd need to go see her in person to do so.
That means returning to Dreminth or having the family brought to Rioja.

>Take a tour of the neeran cruiser we got as a gift.
It's clear the class was meant to be cheaply built but the important parts seem to be of good quality. The interior spaces are a bit on the small side. You're in no danger of hitting your head but it's clear that a shorter species like the Shallans would be more accustomed to it.

Just about the only place on the ship large enough for a Neeran is the shuttle bay and what may have been intended to be a small secondary bridge attached to it. Instead it's been converted into a cargo hold.

"Is it just me or is most of the ship really dark?" you ask one of the technicians.
"It's not you sir. Most of it has been set up to run on the lowest possible power consumption. We also think the species that builds and uses most of them may not need as much light to see."

Flight controls on the bridge have been retrofit for use by Faction crews. It might have been nice from a collector's standpoint to have all original but there were probably security concerns.

Flight characteristics seem a bit odd but it's certainly comparable to your old EX-K.
>>
>See if somebody can show us around one the new stealth craft when they're near Rioja.
Always keeping a safe distance form Rioja to avoid sightings, you meet up with Arron's ship on the other side of the system.
"I love this ship but it's a full time job for everyone aboard." your old sensors officer explains once aboard.
"The fleet doesn't want any of the crew talking about them so we're only allowed off the ship at secure ports Intel controls. I'm not even allowed to tell you where they are."

Arron takes you on a tour. As you've seen previously, the basic interor layout is the same as the original EX-K despite having a greater volume than the newer EC-K. FTL systems have been upgraded with what your people learned during your Alliance mission to recover Veckron weapons. It's not a huge boost but every little bit counts.

"Is this the sort of promotion you were expecting?" You ask.

"Not at all. The House wanted starship captains experienced with positioning their ships for the best sensor data and apparently my name came up. I wouldn't be surprised if they recruited a few of the ECM ship crews from the old attack wing. If I'd know there would be so many regulations I might not have accepted."

"Is it that bad?"

"Well... I suppose not. You get to spy on other Houses and the occasional asshole without them knowing you're there. I'd really like the chance to mess with an enemy and have them jumping at ghosts but that might put the ship in danger."

>I think we never actually visited the planet we conquered from Nasidum after the battle was over.

I'll work out more details of what's happening to them at a later time.

Useful enough. They're still more powerful than than all but a couple battleships. Ber'helum is also looking at additional upgrades to them that could further boost their usefulness. If RSS starts using them in their refits there's little doubt the plans will make their way back to the Terrans but that's less of a concern right now.

Right now he just wants to to be able to have the rescources to rebuild to the current levels if anything bad happens.

>>46339625
It's a bit expensive for a sports league at the moment. Maybe when the civil war is over.

Speaking of misallocation of resources. One of your advisers is concerned with rising remand in the civilian sector for repulsor systems. With restrictions making sure only refugees with jobs or job skills reach Rioja the planet's middle class is growing rapidly. With it are demands for civilian goods from the young people. Other worlds in the region are seeing similar growth.

A civilian version of the Repulsor skate used by power armor troops is exploding in popularity. The adviser would like regulation put into place that would curtail production that uses repulsor stockpiles for the foreseeable future, or at least while there are shortages from the civil war.

I think we bought and walked away with three of the upper variants and put ourselves down for something like a dozen or two of the low end variants with a desire for command modules to be fitted. I can't remember if we were planning to gift a few of the lower ones to our people, or something. All of this is really fuzzy and I'm not willing to delve the archives. I believe the big difference between the different qualities is the lower ones just didn't have the expensive armor right? I think the new high quality ones were supposed to be more modular but I think the ones we took away were the current type right? Not that you need the armor modularity when you already have the best.

Wondering if design points should have been discussed in more detail now.

You've lost sight of Valeri but you're certain he's making himself useful as you duck and dash for the emergency escape.

A pair of 20mm rounds tear through your desk where you'd been just a second ago, pelting your uniform with shrapnel. Good thing most of your uniforms are made of nanoweave.

Reaching a section of wall behind a potted plant you press your palm against the hidden scanner and an emergency bulkhead slams down. Within your confined area outer sections of the floor retreact and armored glass plates extend upward forming the walls of the elevator. One which quickly accelerates downwards at what must be ten G's. Good thing it has an inertial compensator built in.

Within seconds you're at the base of the capital arcology, stepping out into a private hanger. More bulkheads lock closed preventing anyone from following down the elevator shaft.

There are a pair of starfighters, a Needle fighter and a Z5L, along with a few ground vehicles. Small enough to be packed in here where they wouldn't be noticed. You'll need to reach the main hangers to find an LST or one of the Dante Gunships.

A deep rumble seeming to come from above shakes the building. Anything short of capital ship weaponry should not have been felt this far down.

>Do we have access to the arcology's security system from here?
Yes to an extent.
There are security alerts for the upper levels and exterior sections of the city. Security forces have yet to identify the scope of internal threats.

Main com and sensor arrays have been damaged. Overland hard lines to the other cities look to have been cut.
There is still secure communication within the arcology but coms to the fleet or stations run the risk of interception.

Update: A Valkyrie Class Heavy Assault Gunship is reported to have fired on the main com arrays. High speed transit links to the city have been destroyed.
This probably also severed the com hardlines in the process.

Easy enough but there tends to be plenty of military traffic in the surrounding areas. This could be good or bad.

Looks like we're split between contacting your security people or silent Running.

Did you want to try and quietly reach the Gunship without giving away your ID? You could then contact security with a much higher margin for safety.

Another option might be to grab one of the starfighters and use it to get to your command ship.

>>
>>46349771
They have point defense. A mix of lasers, 90 to 120mm mass drivers and particle beams. These are all direct fire though meaning you'd just need to break their line of sight until you were out of range.

Within the atmosphere they're fairly deadly to starfighters within 4-ish kilometers. +400mm mass drivers are easily the most dangerous weapons.

Most of your more trusted marines are towards the upper levels. There should still be some near the hangars as well as plenty of technicians and engineers that have been with the House a long time.

Silent Running has been overruled unless there are objections.

"Rufaro, Valeri, what's your status?"

Rufaro is the first to respond sounding a bit winded. "Glad you're still alive sir! We think the attackers are a Recon team. They set off shrapnel bombs in the atrium and outer admiralty offices. I don't know how many people are wounded."

Valeri breaks in on the channel. "They're targeting high ranking officers. The one that attacked the Admiralty offices has disengaged and I've lost contact with it."

"What about the Governor?" You ask.

"Make sure the wounded can be evacuated quickly."

"Copy that. The Marines are gearing up and starting to do sweeps of the upper levels but even with the updated security systems it's going to be difficult to track a Recon team."

Valeri reports that a Marine squad has arrived at the admiralty and that he's going to help them evac the remaining officers to more secure areas.

Two more impacts shake the arcology. It looks like the HAG has breached the outer hull in a couple places. Are they trying to sufocate everyone? There should be enough air scrubbers for all sections. Unless they're making an escape route for the Recon team.

You also have that high output sensor array in your artificial arm.

>>46351422
>Do we have anybody trained with the gunship in that hangar?
Just a few of the technicians that have been practicing moving it around the bay for maintenance.

Resigning yourself to waiting in the safe area until the capital is secure, you pass along orders to be carried out. Outer sections are to be evacuated just in case that HAG starts punching more holes in the exterior walls, along with those near sections already hit. A general distress signal is to be sent to the nearest bases. They'll have to scramble a small starship to counter that HAG but that's fine.
All civilian traffic to and from the planet is to be stopped immediately and a blockade set up.

Once reinforcements arrive the capital region can be further sealed off preventing the escape of the attacker to other cities. Then it's just a matter of evacuating the wounded and conducting thorough sensor sweeps of everything in the building.

It seems like a solid enough plan and gives you time to connect to a coms officer at the Governor's office so that you're not distracting your special forces.

"Sir, the fleet is deploying to implement the blockade but more than a quarter of them are on lockdown. The main station is reporting system failures and biohazard warnings. No ships currently in dock are being allowed to leave in order to maintain a quarantine. That includes your command ship."

Reports come in that some of the Marine teams are taking sniper fire, forcing them to stay in the more enclosed areas.
"These guys are are taking some of the 20mm special ammo from our people for their weapons. Watch yourself. It can punch through Power Cell armor."

"This is Rufaro, I found a squad of dead Marines near one of the hull breaches. Looks like they were cut down with HF-blades."

"Do you think they've left the building?" You ask.

"At least one. We know there was still one inside recently from the sniper fire."

Outside the situation doesn't seem to be improving quickly. The capital's AA guns can't penetrate shields on the HAG but can at least distract it.

It's at this point that one of your Frigates appears out of nowhere and performs what can only be described as a body slam on the much smaller HAG. Using maneuvering thrusters to maintain their speed, the Frigate drives the HAG downwards into the ground. The resultant impact feels like an earthquake.

It occurs to you that with their ride trashed the enemy Recon team may just try for another shot at you.

"Shit."

With that you head for the hanger that contains your remaining Dante class Gunship. Making your way through the lower levels you do your best not to give away your actual ID or destination, aside from telling your bodyguards that you're relocating to a safer location.

You grab one of the more experienced techs and have them act as the back seat operations officer when you arrive. If the assassins were really good this is the point where they'd jump down on top of your ship and try to rip you out during departure.

Fortunately you escape the arcology without incident and lift off, following a nearly ballistic arc towards Mons Abyla. It doesn't take long to reach the base which is on full alert. PDF are preparing to deploy shuttles and other craft while the army is prepping one of the Assault Transports.

A quick high intensity scan with your arm sensor when you step out shows no signs of hitchhikers.

Contacting the command center deeper inside the base you inform them you're on your way and to not allow any additional ships into the mountain.

General Rna is the first to greet you upon your arrival in the command bunker.
"Baron Reynard, we're glad to see you're alive and well. This is quite the situation."

"How bad is it?"

"Most of the wounded have been evacuated from the Capital and troops are arriving with scanning gear to perform a more through search. If they're still in the city we'll find them."

"Admiral Tama?"

"He was in orbit inspecting the newly arrived carrier groups and drone squadrons and has taken command of the blockade. Drake unfortunately is on board the quarantined station."

"What are we looking at there?"

The General brings up a display showing damage readings for the station. The internal sensors seem to be partially compromised and you're starting to lose contact with some sections.
>>
"We're detecting signs that parts of the structure are being corroded, but the biohazard alarms were more in line with an accidental release of medical nanites. Those should have been held in check easily by emergency containment fields.

People on the station have been pulled back to sections farthest away from the damage, but there were reports of marines in battle with terrorists at the entrance to the military sections. There are still firefights taking place there so our troops must be trying to hold them back.
Someone on the station is trying to jam communications which is making things harder."

We need to inform our allies in the relay, in case this is an attack coordinated across multiple systems.

>We're detecting signs that parts of the structure are being corroded
Contact intel.

We need to put guards around important industry and infrastructure.

Is this our rust virus?

These are your first orders.

"Should we shut down the factories and evacuate the civilians to emergency shelters?"

"Do you believe this to be a bio war attack using the rust virus you've previously encountered?

I'm going to have to end it here this week! I need to go to work in a bit. If the thread is still around I'll post when I get back, otherwise see you next time!

Thanks for the thread!

See you soon!

If it is then I am getting super pissed off. Like fuck man.

>>46353922
My balls. They are so blue.

Yeah it's going to be a real pain if it is since we went to A LOT of trouble not to use it AND keep it secret at all times.
>>
>>46354076
Told you we should have used it. Welp. It's not like we lost anything valuable. I mean space stations are cheap and not at all a pain to replace.

>"Should we shut down the factories and evacuate the civilians to emergency shelters?"
I think that's not necessary at this point. We'll mostly have to worry about sabotage, and a running factory is most likely more secure than an empty one.

>>46354165
Yeah, using the stuff would totally have prevented this from happening.

>"Do you believe this to be a bio war attack using the rust virus you've previously encountered?

I think it's spreading too fast but it seems this kind of problem isn't too rare. The isolationist neeran mentioned running into this kind of problem at one point as well.

>Gelsan
See if we can get permission to extend our holo business to their territory once the negotiations are over.

Captain Kymeri has just won himself a "Crazy Bastard" prize of dinner with Sonia I think. Maybe a suit of power armor or something that he can continue to be a crazy Bastard in. Personalized plasma pistol?
>>
>>46356458
And people said frigates are useless when I asked to get a few.
>>
>>46356458
Personalised plasma frigate? (We make these too.)

I'd really like to commission a new Devourer class be built for some of our best knights if we can.
