Welcome back to WrestleQuest! This is a SOL Quest in which you take the role of young Robin Winters, as he tries to make it big in the crazy world of pro-wrestling under the persona of The Ace.

Last thread, you went on a road trip with your mentor, and it got really depressing.

>Player Question
Less of a question, and more of a discussion this time around. How do you feel about the current combat system? Because personally, I'm not big on it. When I started I wanted something that was fairly in-depth, so that the matches weren't something as simple as "Roll D100 to win", but in it's current state I feel it's too sluggish and number-crunching. As it stands, with having to pause and vote and roll on every individual move, matches feel too slow, and any bout of importance is going to take far too long. At the same time, I don't want to just erase the stat system that we've spent the last 15 threads building up, and I still want those stats to come into play somehow. Therefore, I'd like to try out a simpler system for this thread, wherein blocks of the match will be written out, and in certain situations, the players will be given a handful of options that are attached to certain stats, that the players will vote on and roll D100+stat modifier for it's success. I think it will make things simpler and the posts more dynamic than the "You did the move. What other move you want do?" that we have currently.

>SUNDAY, APRIL 3rd 2016

After a very long day, you arrive back at your apartment, with Kevin Omega in tow. As promised, as soon as you had returned to the city, Omega cut you a check for $2000. Opening the door, you are not only greeted by Kimberly and David, but also the pint-sized rocket that is Patty Perez. Upon seeing Kevin, she runs up and throws a quick jab to the arm of the wrestling icon, before standing on her toes and pointing a finger in his face.

"You fucking idiot! You think you can just sneak out and run off like that? And dragging Ace along with you? Asshole!" She falls back and takes a deep breath, calming herself, before looking away. "You really had me worried..."

"I'm fine," Kevin reassured her, "Ace was right by my side the whole time, making sure I didn't do anything stupid."

"Really?" Patty turned to you, breaking out a small smile. "Good work, Ace... and thanks."

>It's really no problem. I'd do anything for a friend.
>Hey, I got paid for it. It's no big deal.
>Maybe you should keep a better eye on him next time.
>Whatever. Just know that you owe me.

>Also the worst that can happen with that is we go back to the old way.

Agreed, I'm definitely going to try it out for this thread, and ask people what they think of it after. One of my biggest issues is how things are becoming slower and number-crunchier the more new moves are unlocked, so removing that aspect and having all moves the player uses context-sensitive as it were would likely help make the whole process smoother.
>>
>>46308724
Some moves don't make sense to use at some spots or against some opponents. Like going for a suplex against David. Since Robin is billed as a bit small and David's an undertaker or Kane size guy. Or try a submission on a submission expert.
>>
Gonna give another 5-10 minutes to wait for other voters to come in to the thread.
>>
>>46308959
Yeah might be smart otherwise I'd throw Kim out, invite Abby over and try to get back with her by myself!

Patty tilts her head in confusion. "Friend? Are you talking about me or Omega? Either way, I don't get it..."

"He means the both of us, don't you Ace?" Kevin replies, patting you on the back. "Anyway, if you're done getting all mad at everyone, let's go back to my place. I... I have some stuff I need to talk to you about."

As Kevin exits the apartment, Patty gives you a wide-eyed look. "I don't like the sound of that. What exactly happened on your little trip?"

"I'm sure Kevin will fill you in back at his place," you shrug.

Patty leaves, and you turn your attention to your friend and girlfriend.

"Welcome back," David says to you. "When I heard what happened, I was sure Omega was going to kill you and bury you out in the woods."

Kimberly nodded. "Yeah, David was... generous enough to explain this fear to me. It made me VERY nervous. How was it? Was he awful? Did he hurt you in ways I can't even imagine? You want to fill us in on what went down in Hartford."

>Fill them in

You choose to fill the two in on everything that happened while you and Omega were in Hartford.

"Wow..." Kimberly mumbles, clutching at the sleeves of her shirt.

"Yeah, that sounds pretty rough," David replies. "I knew Omega had a hard life, but that must have been really uncomfortable."

"I guess you never know what a person's going through..." Kimberly leans back on the arm of the couch. "I kind of feel guilty for thinking so badly of the guy... no that he didn't make it hard to like him."

After explaining everything, you rub your eyes in exhaustion.

"Yeah, you've had a long day," Kimberly says, grabbing your hand. "Let's get you to bed."

>MONDAY, APRIL 4th 2016

You do some eager stretches as you rise out of bed. You've got a show tonight, but you have no idea who your scheduled opponent is. Steinberg said he'd be giving you a breather match before moving on in your story with Kassius, so you can only assume you'll be taking on someone lower down in the card. Still, you've got a full day ahead until then, and it's up to you to decide how to spend it.

>Call Danny

You grab your phone and call up Danny, hoping that he will be able to hang out. The phone rings for a few seconds before Danny's voice can be heard on the other end.

"Ahoy!" he yells, in his usual boisterous voice.

"Hey pal," you reply, "I was wondering if you'd be free to hang out at the mall or something today, I recently came into some money and-"

"Sure! As long as you promise that you aren't going to try talking me into competing tonight. I still more time to think about it."

You nod, before realising he can't see you over the phone. "Uh, sure! That's no problem!"

>LATER, AT THE MALL

You meet with Danny at the mall, as the two of you wandering around, checking out the various stores. You grab a bite to eat at the food court together, and as you finish up you catch a glimpse of the TWA band passing by. They seem to be in a hurry to get places, but Abby makes sure to wave sheepishly at the two of you once she notices you.

Danny lets out a small laugh. "Ya'know, that Abby's a real nice girl. Shy as hell, but nice. Why did you two break up again?"

>We weren't together long, it just wasn't meant to be.
>After Kimberly confessed to me, I didn't want to be with anyone else.

And if you intend on samefagging yourself, you can just leave this quest. This is a collective group game, you're all playing together, not against eachother. Any anons who want to conspire and work against eachother and abuse the rules aren't welcome.

The stay salty thing was a joke, anon, the reason I opted for "It wasn't meant to be" is because that keeps the focus on Danny's potential new romance instead of making him think of his lost romantic interest, so he's more likely to stay in a good mood and maybe ask her out.

I'm not sleepy and I hate the broke-up too. Kim was a colossal bitch since moment one and I dont see how that fits with Ace kind-hearted nature. You would think Abby would be more of a fit for him than Kim.

Danny stares slack-jawed at you as you explain yourself, before turning his head away as you finish speaking. "That's... dude, I don't really know what to do with that info..." Danny scratches the back of his head anxiously. "Are... are you telling me the only reason you and Kimberly are together is because you made a mistake? That's, uhh... that's pretty shitty, dude..."

Danny shifts uncomfortably in his food court chair, before pushing the chair back and standing up. "I, uhhh... I should take off. Talk to you later, Ace..."

"What so soon? Hey, wait!" you call out as Danny makes a break for the mall exit. Hearing that from you has clearly upset Danny. He may not actually want to talk for a while. You sigh, staring at your watch. You planned to hang out with Danny for the whole day, but now that he's made an early break for it, you're left feeling a little guilty, and not much planned. You stare around the mall. You still have a lot of money on you. Maybe you can check out one of the stores on your own. Or, you could take a trip back to your place.

It's common in the wrestling world for wrestler's to be referred by their ring names in real life, as an affectionate nickname, even from close friends and relatives.

For instance, IRL Triple H's tends to dislike being called "Paul" and is usually referred to as "Hunter" even by his best friend and wife.

You decide to check-out the hobby store. After all, you have a lot of money on your hands, why not spend some of it on some cool figures or something? Maybe some new wrestling dvds?

As you walk through the door, you are greeted by the store owner, a tall ginger bearded man. "Hey! You wrestle for TWA, right? The Ace?"

You nod your head. "Yeah, that's me."

The man laughs. "I thought so. I caught your first match, before you put on the mask, and I recognised you hanging around the mall a lot. I've been to every TWA show. We actually keep a lot of their flyers here for advertising, them being the local indy and everything..."

He hands you a flyer advertising tonight's show. Poorly photo-shopped in versions of you, Kassius and others in front of an ugly purple background. Whoever designs these needs to get fired.

The store owner smiles. "So... you were trained by Kevin Omega, right? I read that somewhere online."

"Yeah, I was."

The man hesitates before asking his next question. Looking at his name-tag, you can see that his name is Harry. "I was wondering... everyone knows Omega is currently in town, and I've heard the rumours that Patty Perez is shacking up with him for whatever reason... I assume you're in touch with Omega. So I have to ask... do you think you could maybe get one of them to come here for an autograph signing? It would be a big boost to the store. Johnny Mercer's visit here did wonders for us, and he was not an easy get, let me tell you."

>I could ask them about it.

You spend some time looking around the store after your conversation with the store-owner, but none of the merchandise really leaps out at you. At least, not anything that you really wanted or needed to spend money on right away. You decide not to buy anything for now, as you take a step out of the store. You wander around the mall for a little while longer, just for the sake of having places to walk to, and before you know it about an hour or so has passed. >From Brazil, weighing in at 185lbs... the high-flying sensation, Angelo!

The crowd lets out a small cheer for Angelo as he runs for the ring, hopping onto the ring apron, and leaping over the top rope into the ring, completing a small roll as he lands. He's certainly athletic, and an impressive flyer.

*DING DING*

The bell rings, and the two of you get the match underway. Being the honourable hero that you are, you offer Angelo a handshake, which Angelo gladly accepts. The crowd enjoys the display of respect for the match truly begins.

You go for a quick kick to the leg, but Angelo jumps over it. You try again with a kick to the head, but Angelo falls back, before kipping back under his feet, dodging your kick like it was a limbo pole. Switching things up, you grab Angelo by the hand and whip him into the ropes, hoping to catch him on the rebound, using his own momentum against him. Unexpectedly, however, Angelo leaps off his feet, catching himself in the ropes, before springing back off of the middle rope, falling backwards in order to perform a moonsault.

As Angelo springs back, you leap into the air, delivering a dropkick right to the gut of the unsuspecting high-flyer. Angelo falls into a heap on the mat, and you waste no time going on the offence. You drag him to his feet and wrap your arms around him, lifting him into the air to deliver a suplex, crashing him down. You pick Angelo back up once again, hoping to deliver another suplex, keeping the young high-flyer grounded for the duration of the match.

As you lift Angelo up for the suplex, he manages to struggle enough to break free and land on his feet. As you turn around, you are met with a boot to the face, as Angelo leaps up to deliver an Enzuigiri kick. You fall to the mat, clutching the side of your face, as Angelo keeps on the offence. He runs towards the ropes, rebounding and leaping onto your chest in order to deliver a somersault senton. You clutch your chest in pain, as Angelo goes for the cover.

1... 2... kickout. You haven't used up that much energy yet, and Angelo realises this. He waits for you to rise enough that you're balancing on one knee, planning to take you down with a solid roundhouse kick.

Angelo's foot comes flying at you, but you are able to react in time, catching him by the leg and spinning around, taking him to the ground with a classic Dragon Screw leg whip. With Angelo down, you levy a few attacks on him, dropping an elbow straight to the sternum to begin, followed by another, and another. You go for a fourth elbow, but Angelo rolls out of the way. As you scramble to your feet, you find that Angelo is already coming off the ropes, and delivers a dropkick to your right shin, causing you to fall onto one knee once again. Angelo sprints to take advantage of the situation, placing his arms around your head and driving it into the mat for a DDT!

You fall back and Angelo goes straight into the pin. 1... 2... Kickout! You're not going to give up that easy.

While you were able to kickout, the blow from the DDT has left you dazed and unable to rise to your feet for a moment. And it's exactly the moment that Angelo needs, as he runs to the corner, and climbs to the top rope as quickly as he can. As he reaches the top, you can tell what he has in store for you. He intends to hit you with his signature manoeuvre, the 450 Splash. You're going to have to move fast if you want to avoid such a devastating move.

Angelo leaps from his perched position on the top rope, rotating in the air, coming down with the intention to land on your prone body on the mat. Except your body is far from prone. As Angelo makes his jump, you spring into action, rising to your feet, timing your strike just right, as you jump into the air and catch Angelo as he comes down, driving his head into the mat with the Ace Crusher!

Angelo rolls onto his back, lifeless, as you go for the pin.

1... 2... 3!

>HERE IS YOUR WINNER... THE AAAAAAAACE!

You rise to your feet and the referee raises your hand in the air, as the crowd goes crazy for what they just saw. You climb a turnbuckle and pose to the crowd in victory, when he fell a sharp pain from behind you, as someone whacks you in the back with a steel chair.

The crowd boos as you fall from the rope, and you see Kassius Orwin standing over you. He delivers several aggressive boots to your gut. You roll onto you stomach to avoid the gut stomps, only for Kassius to bring the chair down onto your back again, and again. With the damage done, Kassius tosses the chair to the side and climbs out of the ring, smirking.

You're not going to let yourself be taken out just like that. With all of your energy, you push yourself to rising to your feet, as the crowd cheers you on. Standing on your own after that beating isn't enough of a message to the champion, however, as you grab a microphone from ringside.

"Kassius! I'm coming for that title, and some puny beat-down isn't going to be enough to stop me! You watch your back Champ, because the only way to stop me is to kill me!"

Exhausted, you drop the mic and climb out of the ring, heading to the backstage area.

>BACKSTAGE

"That crowd was on fire!"

Steinberg welcomes you as you grab a bottle of water immediately after coming from the curtain. You're out of breath, so instead of a reply you give Steinberg a thumbs-up while you chug down the water.

"You really impressed out there tonight, so this Friday it's going to be you against Adam Black in a number one contender match for the TWA title! Keep impressing me and you might even win your title match!"

"You're the one who managed to get yourself over with this crowd," Steinberg replies. "I'm just going where the money is. Don't mess it up."

"I won't," you say, determined. "I won't."

>LATER, AT THE BAR

Arriving at the bar, you are greeted by Omega and Patty. Or rather, Kevin was out drinking at the bar at the same time your show finished up, and Patty had to tag-along.

"How was your show tonight?" he asks the group.

"Pretty good," Kimberly replies, "Ace has got a number one contender's match on Friday, while me and Jenny beat the hell out of each-other again. You know, she actually gets less scary the more you share the ring with her."

"What was that, Princess?" Jenny asks from behind Kimberly, causing her to jump in fear.

"Gah, don't sneak up on me like that!"

A ringing is heard, as Kimberly pulls her phone out of her pocket. "Hang on, I should probably take this..." She kisses you on the check before making her way outside to answer the phone call.

You stand awkwardly at the bar counter before deciding that you should probably try to talk to someone. But who?

>Patty

You decide to approach Patty, and maybe try talking to her about the offer to perform an autograph signing in the mall. The two of you grab drinks and find a nearby booth to sit in.

"Hey Patty, I was talking to the guy who runs that hobby shop in the mall today, and he asked if I would be able to talk you into maybe having an autograph signing in there some-"

You aren't able to finish your sentence, as Patty breaks out into laughter. Very heavy laughter. "Ha! Good one!"

"I... I was serious."

Patty lets out a snort from laughing too hard. "Yeah, and I'm serious-ly in stitches at the idea! Do you know how awkward those things can be? I love my fans, but they tend to love me a little... too much. I've had to do enough of those things with UPW, do you think I'm going to listen to a fat guy show me his homemade Patty Perez body pillow voluntarily? Fat chance!"

Patty takes a sip of her drink. "Besides, why are you asking me and not the dumbass? He's the six-time world champion, former biggest name in the entire industry. I'm just some newbie midcarder. Pretty large gap between us."

"I figured you'd be more willing to agree to this... I see now that I was wrong."

Patty looked a little guilty after you said that. She stares down in her drink, contemplating, before turning to you. "Hey... I'll do it."

"What, really? After you just laughed at the idea?"

Patty shrugs. "Yeah, I guess I do kinda owe you after you took care of Omega yesterday... and I don't really have much time to repay that favour."

You pause. "What do you mean?"

Patty sighs. "Last night, the asshole sat me down, and we had a little talk. He told me that I should go back to UPW, that it's stupid of me to sacrifice my career just to look after a fuck-up like him... and he's right. I mean, if I take time out for something like this, nobody in UPW is going to have faith in me as a Main Eventer. So... I'll be leaving soon.

>How soon?

"End of the week," Patty replies, staring into her drink. "I'll be returning on the next episode of UPW Warzone. That means I'll be on the road 24/7, so we may not see each-other again, unless you turn out to be great at this wrestling thing and make it to UPW yourself."

Patty gives a small laugh, but you can tell it's forced, and she stops almost immediately. "I know I haven't done a great job of endearing myself to all of you people... I've never been good at that. In school, I was always that one person that no-one wanted to hang out with. Not the cool kids, not the dorky kids. I haven't had a birthday party since I was 7 years old, because I had nobody to invite, and anyone I would invite wouldn't show up. Anyway... what I'm trying to say is despite... everything, I actually think you're a pretty good guy. You're how I imagine the old fart was like before he ruined his life. And while you probably think very little of me... you're pretty much the closest thing I have to a friend."

There's a brief silence. Patty seems to already be regretting what she just said. It seems the drink has opened up a more vulnerable side to Patty, and she's only begun to catch herself on. Trying to pass things off as casual, she gives you a playful punch on the arm. "So don't leave me hanging when I go! You have my number genius, be sure to call!"

>I'll be sure to keep in touch, Patty.

"You better!" Patty joked. "Having friends in UPW is what you need to get ahead in this business. Hate to be a downer, but not everyone can succeed based on their own amazing talent like I can."

Patty gives a small smile. "Thanks... Robin? It is Robin, right?"

You laugh. "Yeah, it is."

"Okay then Robin, it's a deal. You make sure to call, and I'll try to be less annoying when I call, lest you hang up on me again!"

"Wouldn't dream of it."

You notice that Patty is starting to turn red. She's drunk and a little flustered, plus she's clearly not used to being so... friendly with someone. She looks you in the eye before giving off a nervous laugh. "Uhh... hey, did it just get really sappy in here? I'm... going to grab another drink."

Anxiously, she makes a break for the bar counter. You stand up from your booth yourself, turning around to see Kimberly charging towards you, tears in her eyes.

"Princess, what's wrong?" you ask, worried.

"Don't call me Princess!" she yells. "That was Danny on the phone... I-Is it true?"

"What?"

"Don't play dumb! He said you told him that this... that you being with me was a mistake! That you said choosing to be with me was a fuck-up! Danny... Danny's a lot of things, but he's not a liar. So, tell me right now... is it true?"

You knew this was coming, but you're still fully unprepared on how to answer.

>Yes, it's true.

"But-"

"No buts!" Kimberly screamed at you. "It's true?!"

"... Yes."

Before you even have time to react, Kimberly slaps you across the face, hard. As you clutch your red-handprinted cheek, Kimberly looks you in the eyes briefly, her own eyes flooded, before shaking her head and running out the door without a word.

You think of going after her, but you realise that it would only make things worse. Jenny, of all people, is the one to follow Kimberly out the door. Maybe she has a softer side than you thought. He sigh deeply, wondering how this could become even more of a mess, when you hear a meek voice behind you.

"I-it was a mistake?" You turn around to see Abby, nervously clutching the buttons on her coat and staring at the floor. "You never even wanted to be with Kimberly in the first place?"

You panic and try hard to explain yourself. "I-"

"I can't believe you..." Abby mutters, taking a few steps back. "You're... you're horrible." She shakes her head and walks away from you. You're left standing awkwardly at the bar counter after the scene that was caused. Omega and Patty are the only ones with you at the bar counter now, and they aren't the most comforting types. Then again, at a moment like this, you shouldn't expect comfort. You don't deserve it.

Patty gives you a sympathetic glance, while Omega raises a glass.

"I gotta say Ace, that was pretty impressive. For a second there, you sounded just like me."

And that's it for tonight's thread! Thanks for playing! Let me know what you think!

I guess I wrote that under the assumption I could slow waifufags.

So, how did everyone feel about the change to the combat system? I feel it could use a little more, but it definitely made things feel a lot smoother and better on my end, at least. I'll likely prefer running matches the new way unless you guys have a significant issue with it.

You're the guy who throws around samefag whenever you don't get your way. Do you really expect to be taken as some sort of innocent who would never change handles or lie about their past actions?

>>46318641
Sleepy isn't my waifu.
>>
>>46318865
It absolutely is hype as fuck. Breaking kayfabe, who came up with that spot for the finish Steinberg, Ace, or Angelo?
>>
>>46318876
It's similar because I use my phone for most of quests. I throw around samefag when I honestly thought that. Why waste time doing that for a quest. So by declaring that and having someone else use a name it must be me? And no I'm not playing innocent I left and went to my fgs. But that won't matter. I'm wrong and your right so anything I say doesn't hold any weight to you. And no I have no idea why someone would do that.
>>
>>46318952
I imagine it was something the two wrestler came up with moments before the match. They then high-fived because that shits awesome. Alternatively, the interaction went like this;

>Yo.
>'Sup.
>Your finisher's a cutter.
>Yeah?
>Mine's a splash.
>Aw shit man, I understand.
>>
>>46318982
>Why waste time doing that for a quest.
Well, you're clearly prepared to politic in quests, because you do it in this one with the samefag accusations.

>I'm not playing innocent
You are. You were obviously FURIOUS about what had happened previously (saying you were "done" and then carrying on posting) and "SaltyAnon" carried on right where you left off. There wasn't even any overlap in the posting. You're claiming that it was a coincidence and you weren't even there. This is bullshit.

>passive-aggression
The reason I don't believe you has nothing to do with "who you are", because I don't know who you are. I don't believe you because your story isn't credible.

Listen man, I absolutely agree with everything you're saying, and I was going to write something similar to Sleepy about the time when we met up with Danny at the mall, telling him to calm down and stop bitching about issues he mostly caused and to basically just stop being a negative force in these threads, but honestly I don't think it's worth it. He's not going to change, he's just going to keep being a dick, and he's going to keep enjoying the attention. Just ignore him and vote against his stupid shit.
>>
>>46319199
Nah, I think the right thing to do is just to ditch this quest. Nothing against the Book man, but Sleepy is so bad that he outweighs the good.
>>
>>46319220
All I can say is that if you enjoy the quest don't let one asshole ruin it for you. However, if you want to leave that's your choice, do what you want.
>>
>>46319256
I'm just looking at the long-term trend. Sleepy will continue to be a complete shitlord and slowly drive off the decent players. Although there's a bit of moral comfort in staying to try to help, it's probably better to just let him kill the quest and move on to do other enjoyable things.
>>
Jesus christ what kind of shitshow was this? Did anons suddenly develop a case of brain hemorrhaging? What kind of response was that write-in? It fucking reeked of sabataging the quest.
>>
>>46319364
>Did anons suddenly develop a case of brain hemorrhaging?
>suddenly
No. As we've been discussing, Sleepy is a long-term cancer to the thread. Others share your suspicion of sabotage.
>>
>>46319409
The saddest thing is that he will eventually just run shit into the ground by fucking up every vote.
>>
>>46319220
>>46319314

It's your choice, but obviously I would prefer that people didn't leave the Quest due to a single toxic player. The only case where I'm okay with losing players is if my actual quest is shit, not if one of the people playing it is shit.

In this thread, I've already discouraged Sleepy's behaviour, so hopefully we don't see a repeat of it. I can't actively kick a player out of a Quest, so right now all I can do is make it clear that the shit Sleepy is becoming known for in these threads is not welcome.

If he continues to be a toxic and antagonistic presence to the players, the best I can do is decree that his votes/write-ins aren't counted, but I'm only going to go that far if he continues this trend in future threads.

It's good to see that you care Booker, hopefully it just dies off and he goes away, but I feel that the odds of that are a bit low. I'm sure you know that the quest is good as ever, that guy and other people are just upset about someone making stupid, awful write-ins that get votes, and later complaining about that thing happening.

In drama unrelated things, Danny is a dick. He is truly a dick and I personally won't forget this breach of trust.
>>
>>46319890
OK, that's fair. I'll tune in next time and hold off on any meta-quest stuff while you're actively running.

On a change of topic, what was your favourite wrestling show from the last week? You've said you watch a lot, so I'm guessing there's at least a couple to choose from.

The newest episode of Lucha Underground. Aztec Warfare II was the hypest shit.
>>
>>46320148
Right. I don't usually watch LU, but I have heard good things about that match. I'll have to look it up.
>>
>>46320148
I hate being in Canada and not being able to watch LU, now I have to pirate the second season. Hopefully that Netflix rumor is more than just a rumor.

Booker took a potential shitshow and made it into a part of the character's arc in a natural way. No matter what led to the votes, he handled it well enough. I'm willing to keep following him on this ride. And I'm saying this as a QM who's fucked up threads in a lot of ways and never handled it as gracefully.
