In a shocking turn of events the largest and most powerful nations bordering the desert have defied the I.F. and withdrawn from the assembly of nations. An international taskforce lead by the feared Peace Keepers now marches across the desert to quash this threat.

On the other side of the desert a tiny nation called the Principality of Beskaosia must hold out against a massive invasion from the belligerent country of N.O.R.D. The Principality's small but dedicated military is no match for the N.O.R.D onslaught. To bolster the line a certain mercenary company has been called in, but will their team of elite mech pilots be enough to turn the tide?

(Welcome to the Mecha Mercs Skirmish Campaign.

This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot. As the campaign progresses the players will accumulate a supply of resources which can be used to build up a persistent pool of mechs and equipment, but watch out! If your pilot dies you could lose it all and be forced to start again with an inferior mech.

“So N.O.R.D has just decided to outright invade the Principality of Beskaosia. The Beskaosians know their military can’t fight N.O.R.D out in the open so they’ve retreated to their fortified capital and dug in. Even then it’s only a matter of time before N.O.R.D cracks it open. The Principality hopes to hold out until the IF taskforce from Molvania hits N.O.R.D’s lines and forces them to redeploy their forces.

We’ve been hired to defend a critical section of wall along the capital’s perimeter. Our primary objective is to defend the section command center located just behind the wall. The wall has two fortified gates on its east and west side. Principality infantry have set up in entrenched positions behind the gates, the gates themselves have mortar emplacements just behind them as well a pair of cannon turrets mounted next to them. The command center is guarded by infantry and a pair of MGPs are available as a *sigh* ‘mobile reserve’. Another important thing to note is the pair of SAM sites on the field. If they get destroyed N.O.R.D will be able to deploy heavy VTOL squadrons to the field and we all know how much you LOVE those.”

"Nobody knows the exact motivations, but N.O.R.D's economy hasn't been doing so well recently. All those protectionist policies meant they couldn't compete on the international market. Some say that they went to war to grab more resources, others to distract a discontent population."

"Speaking of N.O.R.D they have amassed a massive force to storm this position. Intel indicates that their forces will come in 3 waves. The first wave is an elite armoured assault company. These guys are by far the most dangerous wave. They are made up of some of N.O.R.D’s finest tank crews, and their machines have been specially modified for this assault. We’ll be facing four squads of five tanks each. All the tanks are equipped with reactive armour and mine plows, so don’t expect the minefield around the wall to stop them. The reactive armour means that the first few attacks against them are likely to be ineffective, so use weak multiple shot weapons to strip them down then hit them with the big guns… or in Honeypot’s case just keep shooting.

Now within each squad there are multiple specialised tanks. You’ve got the mammoth variant, the siege tanks and the command tank. The siege tanks are the ones you need to worry about the most, they carry siege cannons which will crack open fortifications whether they have a gate or not, they also have armoured tops so you can’t circumvent their armour with indirect fire weapons. The mammoths are pretty straight forward: they have two guns, each weaker than a standard tank cannon but together they deal more damage. These guys will try to protect the siege tanks. The command tank co-ordinates the entire squad. It’s got ECM capabilities so watch out for hacking, it will also designate targets so be careful you don’t get focused down."

After that comes a wave of mechanised infantry. These are elite troops that have worked themselves up into a frenzy. While they’re not as dangerous as the tanks don’t underestimate them, if three squads manage to get to the command center it’s all over, plus they’re also been known to charge larger enemy vehicles and bring them down with mass AT grenades. Their AFVs come in squads of five but they’re not really anything special save for the command variant which directs fire and has ECM.

The final wave is the reserves. They consist of mixed MBTs and mechanised infantry. They will come in once the main assault has hit and move to re-enforce any positions that need it. Unlike the rest of the assault force these guys are not that well trained so if the battle isn’t going their way they should break once their command vehicle is destroyed.

It's your call whether you want to hang back or sally forth. If the latter the Officers are authorized to order the gates to open. Just remember: if you open the enemy might get a chance to get inside.

Pioneer teams are standing by if you want to deploy them.

I keep forgetting to answer this one so now is as good a time as any I suppose.

Mega fauna comes in all types although historically most of the types tamed by humans have been mammilian due to their attitudes being more conducive to domestication. (Usually herd or pack animals) There are some reptilian mega fauna that have been tamed. (usually turtles) but generally reptiles tend to be more ornery and less inclined to accept orders from a rider.

When it comes to mega avians, only the flightless breeds could be tamed. Having a huge animal that could fly off any time it wanted meant that it was almost impossible to tame mega fauna that were capable of flight. Only a handful of people throughout history have been able to do it, usually by imprinting on the hatch-ling.

In recent times it has become possible to control insectoid megafauna through pheromones, though right now the only applications of this knowledge is pest control as the largest mega insect is about the same size as a large dog.

I think I may have picked the wrong set of combat capabilities for this.

Well, first things first - they're operating a smoke screen deployment. Beskaosians, can you order your mortars and cannon groups to open fire in a random pattern? As they roll in we'll expect them to clear the way through the mines, but a bit of fire might slow them down.

And pilots, If at all possible, try to disable the command tanks to disrupt their formations. These are tanks A5, B5, C5 and D5. It seems Tragedy is taking a crack at A5. Nice job, Pilot. Let's see if we can't dent them a little bit.

Well, key targets can be located by us and hopefully shared over a general tac net.

As is right now, the smoke screen deployment and heavy protection of the front tank group would prevent most effective fire. With a slightly randomized pattern their formation might need to break up to compensate.

If your men are competent enough to compensate for smoke-screen and armor both , then my hat is off to the well trained Beskonian military and you can do as you see fit.

(In general, gear bonuses don't stack, but A.E.S.R. is a pack of cheaters. I'm more curious if the Hydra does a def boost or damage reduction. Or both. I'm also a little concerned about the shroud system, and how it interacts with things that affect stealth, like Concealment, and attacks.
