Her face has always been slightly hooked, but now it's just becoming more so. In spite of that however, over years of living together, sharing your happiness and your trials, you've grown to love her more than you thought possible. Beren's cleverness and attentive support and shocking depth of care for you warm your heart every time you see her.You and your son spend the early winter months continuing to work on the new cart. There's still so much to improve and you can't even begin to test it until the ground is solid and not covered in patches of slippery ice, freezing mud and patchy snow.Thankfully, your extra time spent fixing up the cart has revealed several flaws that probably would have resulted in it falling to bits, given enough time. It still might, but by fixing those first, you've pushed that time back somewhat. Next to the usual tools your people make, keeping a cart in good shape is going to be a task and a half... You can only hope it proves its worth.

Goats are a good start, but it's time to start thinking bigger... Possibly much bigger and beefier. With magic, you stand a good chance of possibly corralling the mighty aurochs and wouldn't that be a prize, with hide and bone and meat so readily on-hand? You take up your staff and set out into the cold. The beasts should be weaker and slower in winter, given the scarcity of food, so you stand a better change.>Roll 1d10+2 (Strength -Blind +Item)

This... Was a bad idea. That's the thought that passes almost idly through your mind, as you go flying through the air. You feel an odd sensation of cold deeper than the chilly air around you, seeping up from your abdomen and- Yes, your hip is most definitely shattered. The grumpy aurochs bull who had objected to you blindly getting too close to his herd hadn't given you time to jump out of the way, instead just charging like an enraged mountain made of beef, horns and fury, its horn luckily only clipped you, saving you from being skewered, but the rest of its head smashed you sky-high and giving you just enough of a chance to fully comprehend the magnitude of your fuckup, before the earth re-asserts its hold and you smash into the ground with enough force to bounce and roll to a stop, blacking out with pain. You aren't sure how long you lay in that tangled heap of limbs, but it can't have been more than a few minutes, as you hear shouting voices and hurrying feet, the lowing of aurochs being chased away by fire and spears and the sensation of being lifted, before a battering blot of pain banishes consciousness once more.Another timless space of nothingness passes, until pain once again spikes into your mind like a flint knife. Beren is calling for Elia to hold you still; there's confused voices until your wife screams at them to leave her house. Cool fingers push gently at your wound, but your throat tears itself ragged with a scream of pain...Blackness, freedom again, for a time...
>>46383889Over weeks, you regain enough strength to stay awake, although the strain soaks you with sweat and the throb in your hip is constant; sometimes dull and almost ignorable; sometimes bright and sharp, threatening your grip on awareness. Beren is furious, although she shows it quietly. She barely says more than is required and insists that she alone care for you, without Noh, Elia or Galit. The charm is on your wrist, but your injury must be too taxing for the small thing, as you feel little change.By the time the first buds start to open in spring, you are well enough to hobble, leaning heavily on your staff. Even then, every step sends a fresh, nauseating lightning-flash of pain through the right side of your body...>You have suffered a shattered hip! -1 Strength and Speed until you recover!>A serious wound like this will take a LONG time to heal naturally, if it ever does! I think we should construct that temple we were working on, and try to get the others to follow suit. We can't forage or train animals well cuz we're blind, but we can still craft and build things, as well as use our magic.
>>46384213>>46384151Sounds good. Doing it slowly, Well seems like our son is going to be great at healing magic.Since he will be joining us healing us slowly bit by bit. If this wasn't obvious lets take that charm from Galit and throw it on our self to speed that up. While we heal our self.

I must admit, I have no idea what you were all expecting to happen with that last vote. The best you could have hoped for is escaping without injury, honestly. But hey, I asked if you were sure and no-one said, "Wait no," so...Posting, then continuing when I wake up.
>>46384583I agree with you that was a reckless move. I likely would have gone along so long as we spoke to the god of the animal we were hunting was contacted first and asked for his blessing. Having Elia and noh would have been nice too.

>>46384640>aurochsthere is already a god for that we've already spoken to before and he has given us his blessing before.>>46384668Of course, this time around we have a better need for the auroch. We can use them to pull along carts of shit. Carrying multiple times our own payload there for increasing how much we could get down towards the temple all the gods wish for us to build. >>46384713With the right blessing we could easily get it done. I think once our hip is all better and we get the blessing we should be okay to do it. Noh is getting older, he should be able to help us soon.
>>46384767We've been told before that we were being viewed as prideful for not asking other people for help often. Herding animals isn't a lone job. We've got people for that, we're sort of a leader.
By the fact that Beren's lips aren't pressed quite so firmly together any more, you gather that your decision to take some time to do nothing and recover is the right one. The charm should help you heal faster, but will it even work on something when you were Noh's age, would have been almost certain death? You infuse a little magic into your bones as well, slowly trying to coax them back into position, but this is nothing like the dislocations and smaller cuts you have dealt with before; or even the clinging, stubborn resistance of a long sickness... Healing trauma like this might well be beyond your abilities. You certainly won't manage anything unless you push yourself a little.>Too dangerous. Let it heal at its own pace>Push the healing magic. Trym is going to die soon, whether we want it or not, and at this point I just want Noh, Sera, and Ebba to become the greatest people they can, with the three of them leading a massive household. It's been lightly touched on in the past, but I think we should honestly consider the idea of Matrilineal marriage for Ebba and Sera. With the way wives work in our tribe, it'd be interesting, but the plan I have is as follows:1) We find husbands for Ebba and Sera2) The husbands join our family "unit"3) The husbands take on more wives if they so choose (as is normal in the tribe), but those wives also become part of our familyIf our culture was monogamous it would be much simpler to form matrilineal marriages, but, unfortunately, our society is polygamous. Because of this, a Matrilinear system has the chance to add new blood to the family, which isn't bad, and would definitely expand our family unit, but could cause lineage problems down the line if not handled properly. Therefore, I think the best solution would be to find Sera and Ebba husbands, have the husbands join our family, but next generation switch back to the normal system of wives joining the family of their husbands. This gives us a large boost to our family size, as Sera, Ebba, and their children will be staying in the household, this boost is increased if their husbands take on more wives. Having such a large family will undoubtably lead to greater influence, and even allow us to create specialists within our family over the next couple of generations; an example being craftsmen or merchants that don't farm or hunt but still provide a service to the family. However, as previously mentioned, Trym's grand children will operate off of the normal marriage customs, with sons gaining wives for the family and daughters leaving the family, the exception being either highly skilled daughters or men willing to be monogamous. If this makes sense I'll attempt to post more before I follow RWBs lead and pass out.
>>46386497Assuming every male in the family takes atleast two wives, that all G1 (generation 1) daughter's (Sera and Ebba) husbands and husband's wives join our family, that every male has atleast two children (there will likely be more), and that atleast one child of each male is also male, and assuming all of the male children live to adulthood; our number of heir producing children will never drop below three in any given generation. If we go for three children per male, with 1-2 of said children being male themselves, our numbers will only increase. If we have our children have a family like Mesut's (four or more wives, shitloads of children) then our numbers will increase dramatically and exponentially. Of course, there are probably things I am leaving out, or things that could've been done better, but the gist of it is; if we keep Sera and Ebba in our family, and follow the plan set out previously, our family will grow to be one of the strongest in the clan.
>>46386839At the absolute minimum Noh needs two or three wives, which will probably not give him the best and most loving relationship, but will give us tons of heirs and secure our family line. Also, when Trym dies I vote for taking control of Noh.
>>46386887Why, because he's male? His first daughter is clearly the coolest, she definitiey would be the best choice
>>46386497This isn't Crusader Kings 2, mate. I don't think you need to worry about succession crises until MUCH later in your cultural development.Besides, when your current character kicks the bucket, you can continue playing as EITHER one of their offspring, OR one of their siblings. Connections further than that are not valid. Also, good morning, let's get cracking.
>>46389507Welp lets hope we don't kill ourselves pushing
You're very aware just how dangerous it can be to over-use magic. Healing something like this... If you're not careful, you could end up killing yourself through magic burn and wouldn't that just be laughable. There should be a word for that; getting ruined by your own actions turning on you...You cautiously open your soul to the magic and piece by painful piece, try to press the bones back together. It's a slow and agonising process and you keep stopping yourself to make sure you're not over-taxed. By the middle of spring however, you've made precious little progress. Fixing a crack, or closing cuts is one thing, but it feels like your hip has been completely broken apart and into many different pieces as well. You have made precious little headway, but at least you can use magic to dull (if not totally eliminate) the pain.Noh wishes he could help you, but he still has no talent for magic and practicing with no result and the vague instruction you can offer, only frustrates him and makes the young man bored. These days, he spends much of his time alone, or in the company of one of the dogs, ambling over the hills and staring out at the distant mouth of the valley. It is now late spring. Easy to slide into leader position and take the reigns from us. But badass hunter sister should help in her rise to power. And hopefully put Noh into something like herder and trader. In spite of his lack of talent for magic, you ask Noh to stay close by after all. There might be a good side to this disaster after all, in that you get to spend more time with your son, unburdened by the worries that would keep you busy otherwise. It's good to talk with him, to learn more about your quiet and unassuming boy. He has a good head on his shoulders, for all it's up in the clouds, but you suspect talking about his interests is just fueling his wanderlust.Meanwhile, your healing is not going well. Magic is a tricky beast to control at the best of times, much less when you have a constant blot of pain in the back of your mind to distract you. Several times, you almost felt it slip away from you, tugging at your life like an autumn wind at a leaf. Every time though, you manage to haul yourself back from the brink, to live a little longer, such as your life is. Beren STILL isn't speaking to you. It's been twenty years of so and she still sometimes acts like the young woman you brought home from the Sunish. It is now early summer. Magic isn't cutting it. You just aren't strong enough alone, so you instead decide to get some help. With Noh's help, you drag your battered body to the glade-that-is-going-to-be-a-temple and lean on your staff, calling to Isu. With the aid of the goddess of wild things, you have a plan. It isn't too long before you are aware of her presence. It seems all the goddesses of the wild mess with your son's heart... Maybe it's just his age. He doesn't describe her to you, but she has to look at least a little more human than when you last had eyes to see her with. You plead for her aid in healing you and she nods."Of course, in exchange for an offering, as is only right.""Name it.""Blood of an animal, like you gave Tengr... And a few of those bright beads that flash like fire, to make a necklace.""It will be done."In return, Isu takes your head between her hands and whispers to you the secrets you sought. Long have your people known to use dock to soothe a nettle's sting; spiderwebs to bind a wound; chewed willow-bark to ease a headache... And Isu confirms to you far more than you suspected. Some plants are natural, some are magical and some can have their natural properties enhanced by magic, some to cure and some to harm and some to grant strange properties. With Noh as your eyes and swift-running hands, you mash together leaf and root and berry and not a little magic into a poultice and potion smelling of trampled summer grass. Before long, you start to feel much better. It is not an instant cure, not for such a grevious wound, but you are on the mend... And even better, Noh seems to have learned a little something. He may have scant talent for magic, but such craft only requires a little magic itself...
