This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Chunin named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of trades skill set have brought you far. You have just recently graduated to a Chunin after winning the final tournament. You've been regularly completing missions as a Chunin, and making progress in training. You have a busy week before your next mission.
>>
Monday.

You wake up, and enjoy a calm breakfast with your brother before he heads out for the morning shift. At once you head to the academy, knowing that you intend to study for the entire day. It's peaceful in the village, and there's a light frost on the ground. Fall must be starting to set in. You look around, and sure enough, many of the tree's green leaves are starting to go yellow, orange, or red.

The frost dissipates now that the sun is in the sky, and it gives way to a clear blue day. You arrive at the school and settle into the library, taking out your regular assortment of books and looking over them. You know that since you'll have a lot of time, you can really focus on one subject. You'll probably have time to learn about several jutsu, but trying to learn multiple of jutsu of different types might be an exhausting effort.

You decide that you'll pick one book, and learn several jutsu from it.

Frankly, you feel a bit excited having a full week of training to yourself. You really haven't had time since training with Shikamaru, aside from keeping up on your basic fitness. You start to realize the true number of options in front of you as the vastness of the library becomes apparent. Whether or not you realize it, you've been focusing on the type of jutsu that put tremendous strain on one's ability to control chakra. All this time you've been subtly advancing it, and now you've reached a crescendo where you can suddenly learn many more jutsu than you normally would be able to because of it.

A bead of sweat forms on your forehead considering this sudden realization. "Jeez, why doesn't everyone learn medical jutsu and genjutsu?"

Pick what topic you want to research for the day.

You gather up several medical texts, both on anatomy and jutsu. The very first thing you do is search for information on the Chakra Scalpel Jutsu, something critical for both surgery and close range combat. It's true function is as a precision surgical tool, that can even cut selectively between layers of skin. You could cut inside their body using your chakra, without ever leaving a mark on their skin. The perfect assassination tool, if used correctly. Simply thrusting your palm against the opponent's heart could mean death. However, this type of power only comes with a true mastery of the jutsu. Initially, you simply take the time to memorize the handsigns and method of molding the chakra on your hands into a blade. It's a B ranked Jutsu, and it consumes quite a bit of your chakra as you channel it.

There's no way to use other jutsu while using this technique, obviously. Your hands will be occupied, the chakra surrounding them acting like a precision blade. In theory, at least. For now, you're having a hard time to hold it steady enough. Controlling such a large amount of chakra so finely is difficult, and doing so in the middle of battle seems impossible at the moment.

Stopping the jutsu, you take an apple from your jacket and place it on an old sheet of newspaper. It's going to be your first test subject. Once more you use Chakra Scalpel. You feel as though you're walking a tightrope, the mental concentration forcing you into a sweat. Slowly, holding your hand flat like a knife, you lower it vertically onto the apple. The skin is broken as the chakra connects, but the slice is wide and very shallow. You're not focusing the blade sharply enough to cut, let alone cutting where you want it to.
>>
>>46379688

Taking a deep breath and closing your eyes, you quiet your mind. Without looking, focusing only on the sensation of the chakra, you bring your hand down. You can hear the crisp sound of the flesh of the apple being cut, and you slowly open your eyes. It's more successful than before, an invisible wedge seems to have been pried into it. It's no scalpel quite yet, but it's progress.

For the next several hours, you go through the process of studying, and using the jutsu. While you rest from exhausting your chakra, what technique do you want to study next from the medical texts?

>A. Focus on improving Healing Palm
>B. Learn the Diagnosis Pulse Technique. This will teach you to send a pulse of chakra through someone's body, and get a mental visualization of their functionality and status.
>C. Learn Artificial Clot Jutsu. In cases of severe bleeding, temporarily thicken the blood of the affected site.
>D. Begin to learn about Medical Water Release: Jellyfish.

Takeshi, is an extremely well rounded shinobi, he could be the "next" third hokage or an itachi without sharingan.

Why are we wasting this potential, we have senbons, genjutsu, ninjutsu, we have a hydro sword.

Do we really want to turn takeshi into a gimmicky sakura?

I suggest we train jutsus in order to be a actual danger threat.
A good way to support the team, we can"t be a gimmicky sakura, and hope that we get shikimaru lvl of ideas, every fight
>>
You start to research the Diagnosis Pulse technique, a completely necessary jutsu for every true medical shinobi. It's what allows you to get an immediate scan on the body of any human sized or smaller living creature. Anything larger, and you'll only be able to get a partial picture unless you increase the amount of chakra. Even then, there is a limit to how much information your mind can process at a single time. Be careful of examining large creatures.

As for people, you will get a picture of every aspect of their organs and body. You will be able to detect surface cuts or lacerations, bruising, any bruising of the bone or fractures, and the total amount of blood left in the body. You will not be able to discern things like heart rate with this jutsu, as it only provides a picture of a single instant. You will have to manually check their pulse.

You'll need a person to practice this jutsu on.

For now, you get back to mastering the chakra scalpel jutsu. After recovering a bit, you use your renewed energy to now make much more fine slices. Though they're still not particularly deep, you're able to cut the flesh of an apple quite easily.

You look at it, and sigh. You'll probably need a dead pig or something. Ideally, a cadaver would be the perfect way to practice this jutsu. Maybe you can talk to Naruto or Sakura about getting involved in an autopsy, or something.

After a couple more hours of practice, you feel that you're basically good enough at the Chakra Scalpel to make shallow incisions. The type of cut you could cause would be painful, and clean. Medically it will have limited use, but in combat, consider using this technique to strike at any obvious weak points.

Putting up your material, you head home and get something to eat before sleeping. There's a long day of training ahead of you tomorrow.

After a short breakfast, you head directly for the field. Doing some light physical exercise, you loosen up your body and mind.

It's time for some good old fashioned training!

You draw your steel blade, and look at your reflection in it's smooth metal. It's cool to the touch, and you gently drag your finger along the blade. It breaks the skin, thin as a hair, and a drop of red pours forth. No more, however. You mentally note that you'll have to get your Chakra Scalpel to the level of a blade like this, one day.

Gripping it tightly, you feel out the weight of the sword and attempt to get a feel for how each swing's momentum carries you. It's difficult work, considering that you have absolutely no prior experience with swords except for your completely different Hydro Sword.

You choose not to strike the nearby wooden dummies, not wanting to dull your blade. Not to mention, you really wouldn't know what you were doing. For now you focus on preforming simple swipes, and an effective stab. It works out your entire body, as you concentrate both on footwork and keeping your momentum.

Several hours of this later, and you opt to take a long break before your second training session.

You've got a little time to kill while you rest.

Seeing as you want to let your body take it easy, the best person to hang out with would probably be Shikadai. He generally prefers to laze about, unless his mom is nipping at his heels about something. It doesn't take very long to reach the Nara residence, and when you knock on the door your friend answers. "Hey, Takeshi. You've been training, I can see."

You chuckle, still a bit sweaty probably. "Yeah, even on my days off I can't help but keep at it."

The Genin shakes his head. "I'll never understand it, really. Well, come on in. My mom made lunch."

You enter, and enjoy a filling sandwich before heading into Shikadai's room. Surprising you, it's rather tidy. Of course, you also can't imagine his mom tolerating anything less. You play some Shogi for a while, and eventually take a crack at some video games. It's a relaxing time overall, and you're soon out the door as you tell him that you have to get back to training.

"See ya'" he says. "I might see you at the training field if you're there later this week. We really need to have another rematch!"

"Of course!" you say.

Soon after, you're back at the field. It's still fairly early in the afternoon.

>F. Train Chakra Control

Yeah, the Medical Jutsu and Genjutsu were doing this anyway, but there have to be more exercises for this sort of thing, right?

Like, Medical jutsu and Genjutsu just train "muscles" most other exercises don't, but if we don't do all the chakra exercises, we'll miss one, or something like that?

...then again, Stamina and Strength are important too, and we *do* want to make sure not to fall behind in those areas.

Ah.

Okay, let's go with Strength, catch it up a bit so it's not our weak point.
>>
You decide to focus on what may be your weakest attribute, your physical strength. While you're not particularly weak, if you had to tangle with the likes of Kichiro or even Sarada in a one on one brawl, you would have little to fall back on. Recalling your match with Anzai, he had been a difficult opponent. By crippling and wearing him down you were able to get the edge, but you won't always be in a position to do so.

Recalling your time with Shikamaru, you use what you learned to exercise your physical strength as greatly as you can. With no weights, you choose to focus solely on push-ups, various core exercises, and varying types of squats and pull ups on tree branches. You cycle through these work-outs rapidly, focusing on targeting different muscle groups with high exertion for brief periods of time before moving on to the next. It's extremely tiring, and you're sweating like a pig. The pain in your limbs as you stop, forces you to take a quiet rest before returning home.

You hit the ground, and lay in the grass. The distant sun is setting, and a coolness washes over you. You sigh.

Something strange is happening, but you can't quite put your finger on it. Ino said that the natural energy of the world is what showed you those visions. Does that mean that the world knows something is coming, and it's trying to warn you?
>>
What's going on with these Jashinists, as well? It seems like they've just become a bigger and bigger problem for everyone despite constantly chasing them away. You suppose that it's not like the old days, when it was a war. When people just hide until they come out and attack people for no reason, what can you do to stop that? What can you do against a populous that seeks to destroy itself through terror?

Suddenly, you find yourself sitting up, clenching your fists tightly. You sigh again. "I need to relax a bit..

---

After heading home, you head to sleep and rest peacefully. You wake up super sore, thankfully you have no intentions of working very hard today. All you want to do is socialize a little.

Wanting to hang out with your team mate, you decide to visit Kichiro. You would go check to see if Ai is well, but you're still not exactly sure where she lives. It takes a little bit of time to get to his place, but soon you knock on the heavy wooden door. A few moments later, his little sister opens the door just barely, her eye peeking through. You grin. "Well, hi there. Is Kichiro home?"

She shuts the door, and you can hear her run off. Is she getting him, or did you just get denied?

A minute later, your friend swings open the door. You now realize you can hear music upstairs, a deep base thumping.

Kichiro is dressed very casually, fuzzy pink slippers, black basketball shorts, and a white wifebeater. He has two playing cards tucked into his Leaf headband, and a cigarette in the off hand. "Hey, Takeshi! What are you up to?"

"I wanted to see if you wanted to hang out." You notice Kichiro's sister hiding behind him, peeking up at you wordlessly. It's rather endearing. He nods. "Sure, sure! Come on in. I already have some friends over, I'll introduce you to everyone."

You step in, and looking to the left you can see the living room is clearly decked out to be his sister's play area. There are numerous drawings on the wall, a fort made from a sheet and a dining table set, and a box television. There's also a couch near the wall, and next to the stairs in front of you are two older men seated at a small table. One has numerous scars, and they both seem rather tough. On one of their backs is a crudely written "Kick me" sign, probably placed by a mischievous child. They seem to be playing a game of shogi rather fiercely.

The little sister runs off into the fort. Kichiro motions for you to follow him. "She's havin' fun, let's head up."

At once, you're lead upstairs, and blasted by music and the smell of smoke as you enter. There are roughly a dozen people in the large room, a mix of men, women, teenagers, and you and Kichiro being the youngest. One thin man is rolling cigars of tobacco for everyone else, while a beautiful young woman deals at a clearly aged poker table.

He holds his arms out. "Welcome to my home, you'll probably find most of these people around usually. We all live around here, and since my grandpa left me this big house, we bring some life to it!"

Looking around, you can tell this is a group that Kichiro deeply trusts. They're probably more or less his family. You smile and greet them all warmly, and soon enough you're sucked into a low-stakes poker game. You're offered a hand-rolled cigar, but you politely decline. After a couple of hours of relaxing, you think about heading out.

>A. Ask Kichiro to try and teach you about Fire Style Jutsu.
>B. Ask him if he'd like to train later this week.
>C. Go somewhere else.

Maybe stay for a few more minutes before leaving, because we don't want to ask right on the way out.

Leaving the room, you and him head downstairs as you're about to exit it. Before you do so however, you decide to ask about your mutual team mate. "Have you talked to Ai lately at all? I haven't seen her in a while." He seems to think for a couple of moments, before shaking his head. "I haven't really. But you know how she is, total recluse. I'm sure if she wanted to hang out, she'd come seek us out right?"

You shrug. "Maybe. Well, it's been nice relaxing for a bit. Let's train later in the week, alright?"

He nods. "Right!"

Going to end it here for today folks. I'll probably be running later this week as well.

I'll stick around to answer a couple questions.

Pastebin for you Mini. Everything in order?

yep looks to be about right, thanks anon

No problem boss. Any Genjutsu on the books we could pick up quick? How our chakra control compare to the rest of our classmates? Interrogators been at Asuka?
>>
>>46384451
there's plenty of genjutsu you could learn at the moment. You have some of the best chakra control, only Sarada, Mitsuki, and Roku really being ahead of you in that department.
>>
>>46384511
How do we compare Genjutsu wise?

Quickdraw sheath soon? Did I need to add the tiger cloak? How large is our chakra pool?
>>
>>46384635
You have a lot of Genjutsu skill but you only know a couple Genjutsu. Sarada, Mitsuki, Ai, Mari, a lot of people know a couple Genjutsu at this point.

You're easily one of the most skilled though, surpassed only by Sarada.

Don't have a need for the cloak yet. Your chakra pool's size is relative to your stamina.

As you get older it'll also increase
>>
I vote becoming at least partly a genjutsu master eventually. Shit's so underused. Not to leave everything else out to dry, though.
>>
>>46385376
it was used heavily but only by the special eye people.

>>46384760
So how did Boruto and Sarada feel after their first mission by a guy they think a bit weaker then them?
>>
>>46385376
We're working on it, slowly but surely.
>>
>>46385376
>>46385437
>>46386231
Right now we're better at it than anyone without bullshit eyes, we can stand to round ourselves out while we study more techniques.
>>
>>46386276
Next Study session we're grabbing the Genjutsu book. Training wise we can level strength up to 2.5 easily enough.
>>
So...

Current votes on Summons?
>>
>>46386913
Rats, forever and always.
>>
>>46386913
Owl for me flight, cooler sage mode, bullshit op forgotten techniques and White owl's specialty is same as ours.
>>
>>46386913
Last time we turned into a bird, we got fireballed. I'm taking this as a sign to go rat.
>>
>>46386913
Rats. Always rats. Bird seems like we'll just get messed up again.
>>
>>46386913
Rats. No doubt about it.
>>
I'd still love an owl flying mount.
>>
My vote goes to tiger. It's the underdog choice.

No, really. The Tiger symbolizes our determination. The way we never give up. Our desire to be the very best ninja in the face of all these special snowflakes despite being average.

It's about more than just brutality. The brutality part is just the most obvious part because it's flashy. That may be part of what makes tiger unpopular--the idea that if we choose it, we're that much closer to the snowflakes than we would be otherwise.

I'm for tiger, but I'm not against Owl or Rat. I'm well aware that no matter what we pick, it's gonna be awesome.

I like rats for the balance. Also, the rat sage seems cool, and if we choose rat we unlock a new waifu. Even if we don't pursue her, I think the rat sage can give us advice on trying to waifu Sand Kunoichi Iron Man. Not that she's my first choice for waifu, but I'm not against it either.

I like Owl for the sake of getting cool shit that was lost to the world, even at the risk of getting worthless, obsolete stuff. I also like the idea of being the Owl Sage.

But right now my vote goes to Tiger.
>>
>>46386913
All in on owl, just suits us too much.
>>
>>46386913
Rats and owls.
>>
>>46388800
Also, if i have to choose, genjutsu will bring home the bacon. Owls are the genjutsu master.

We basically killed a whole squad, using genjutsu and the environment to our advantage.

Imagine high lvl genjutsu now, instead of these mediocre tier genjutsu, we have at our disposal.

We could be A true threat.
And in the off case there's a rogue uchiha, well hello sharingan eyes.
>>
Can we learn a genjutsu that messes with the opponent's head by changing their layout?
>>
>>46389618
Why not just learn/make a jutsu that gets into opponents minds and makes them think we have a sharingan?
>>
Test
>>
>>46390111
Less helpful by far.

>>46390103
Eventually yeah. High tier stuff though.
>>
>>46386913
Owl for sure
>>
penis
>>
>>46392957
You fucking disgusting piece of shit
>>
>>46392980
Why do you hate penes?
>>
>>46393087
>>
>>46389618

Of course, we'd have to defeat the rogue Uchiha first. Y'know, the Uchiha with the hard counter to the genjutsu we specialize in.

Come to think of it, freakin' Uchiha and Hyuuga are probably the *reason* genjutsu is under-utilized--at least against the leaf. Of course, that means Leaf ninja don't have an excuse for under-utilizing it.

We're gonna be a true threat no matter what.

That said, I love a good genjutsu as much as the next guy. I've actually got an idea for a low-mid level one we could create ourselves. It's not exactly the most original, but it's something that--to my knowledge--hasn't been used in-universe.

Actually I'm not really sure if it's actually a genjutsu, or if it's a ninjutsu, since it's something that affects our own senses instead of the enemy's.

Really it's just faerie fire. I figure, being able to tag an outline around a target that we can see through obstacles and such would be handy.

So, Faerie fire as a possible custom move. Helpful or not? Yay or nay?
>>
>>46393731
Nay
>>
>>46393731
You mean a modified false fire Jutsu? It'd be decent but a seal would be better.
