"There, we're parked" Derrick says as the cart rolls to a stop in the back of the building you're supposed to be making a delivery to.

"You sure this is the right place?" Emi asks.
"Pretty sure" Derrick says. "I'm gonna go see if there's anybody here. You guys get Ilica out of the cart, but don't start unloading just yet"

Emi is first out of the cart, followed by the devils. You hand the (now sleeping) Ilica down to Emi before stepping out yourself.

"We still have to find mommy" Daisy says.
"Yeah!" Lily says.

Emi takes Ilica over to a nearby bench and sits her down, before sitting down next to her.

"Can I help?" You ask Emi.
"I think she just needs fresh air and some time to come down" Emi says. "I should be able to handle the aftermath... hopefully"

You turn around to see Derrick coming back from the building. "Good news" He says. "We can start unloading now. They weren't too happy with how late we showed up, but they were a bit more understanding after we told them what happened"

Lily and Daisy both fix Derrick with a stare and an angry pout.

"What are you... oh, right" Derrick says. "Well... we can't leave these guys high and dry, not when we have a job to do. But unloading doesn't look like it'll be too hard, so I should be able to handle it alone if you want to take these two to find Fran, Yuu"

Lily and Daisy turn their attention to you, giving you their saddest faces...

You stare at Lily and daisy for a moment, then look back up at Derrick. As you start to say something, some movement catches your eye and you look back down.

Did they get closer?

No... you must be seeing things.

Looking back up, you see Derrick waiting for a response. "I'll-" Your eyes dart back down.

They definitely got closer. They just seem like they're standing the same way, looking at you with their big sad eyes...

The sound of Emi giggling draws your attention to the side, and when you look back they're right in front of you. Both of them tug lightly at your shirt, and looks straight up into your eyes.

"Please?" They ask.
"I was going to say yes" You say.

Their faces light up, and they jump up and hug you.

"Thank you!" They say.

Derrick chuckles and walks over. "Where do you two think she might be?" He asks.

Lily and Daisy drop back to the ground, and think. After a moment, they both shrug.
"I thought so" Derrick says.
"Maybe she went home" Lily says. "If I was gonna look for us, that's where I'd start"
"Mommy might be at the hungry guild too" Daisy says.
"You mean the Hunter's guild?" Emi asks.
"Yeah" Daisy says.

"They're good starting points, at least" Derrick says. "I'll let you figure out where to go first, Yuu"

You close your eyes and think for a second. "If they got our message, then they'd be waiting at the guild" You say.
"Good call" Derrick says, as he gives you a pat on the back. "We'll come and see how you're doing once we've got the cart unloaded and Ilica de-catnipped"

You nod to him, and then turn to the devils. "Let's go" You say.

You turn to get on your way, and the girls follow you. A few steps away, you feel something slip into both of your hands. You check them to see that the girls have given you their tails to hold onto.

Neither of them are weirded out or awkward about it, so you don't say anything. This must be how they usually walk with adults. Like holding hands, except it leaves them with both of their hands free.

You notice a few things about them, just from their tails. Daisy's tail is spade tipped, like Frans. But Lily's tail forks into 2 points the way Emi's little tongue does. It's also much warmer to the touch than Daisy's.

They also seem to have taken the lead, making you feel less like the adult and more like the child... Not that you mind. They know where the guild is, you don't. It's natural that they would lead.

...

Unless they don't know. That would be embarassing.

"Isn't it around here?" Lily asks.

You start sweating.

"It was on this street" Daisy says. "Do you remember which way it was?"
Lily hums as she thinks, eventually giving up and shrugging. "Do you see it?" She asks you.
"Is the sign the same one as the one in Sherton?" You ask.
"Yep" Lily says.

You look up and down the street you're on, and spot the sign a ways away...

You also spot several shiny guys. You think they might be knights, not guards, from what they're wearing. And they seem to be keeping an eye on this place...

You slowly back the girls out of the street into the street you came off of.

"What's wrong?" Lily asks.
"Knights..." You say. "I think they're watching the street"

"What? Why?" Lily asks, while Daisy looks downcast.
"Do you think they're looking for mom?" Daisy asks.
"Maybe" You say. "Is there another way in?"

"There's a back door" Lily says. "But they don't let you in unless you know the password"
"They might make an ex... ek-sep-shun for us" Daisy says.

"Why are they all waiting outside?" You ask. "Wouldn't it be easier to wait inside, where we can't see them?"
"Those guys aren't allowed into the guild" Lily says. "Daddy says that the guild is... uhh... special"

"You forgot the real reason didn't you?" You ask.
"Nuh-uh" Lily says. "Being special is the real reason"

You breathe in, and out. Chances are these shiny guys might be back door as well, and if you go back there you might not even be let in...

But there's no way you can reach the front door without being spotted...

"Back door" You say. "It's worth a try. Lead the way"
Lily nods, and starts walking. You keep a good grip on her tail and stick close, with Daisy in tow.

She leads you quickly across the street with the knights, and into a side-street on the other side.

From there, you go to a hiding spot within sight of the back entrance.

"There it is" Lily says.

There are more knights here. From what you can see, it's only 2. Well... not -just- 2. 2 knights may be more than you could handle on your own, let alone with a pair of children to protect...

You sit lean back in your hiding spot and think. There must be a way past them...

After a minute or so, you've got a few plans. You run through them again in your head, trying to figure out which one to use...

>Plan A: Catch them off guard and try to take them both down before they can really defend themselves

>Plan B: Have Daisy seep past them and distract them so you can knock them out

>Plan C: Distract them yourself so the girls can go in and hopefully get you some help

If you can get them away from the door, then Lily and Daisy can go in and hopefully find someone to help you out. If that fails, you could probably outrun these guys.

The question is: how to get their attention?

...

Derrick said that they arrested him for saying bad things about the king, maybe that'll work for you?

"Okay" You say. "I'm gonna go get those knights to chase me. Once they're gone, you two go inside. Okay?"
"What if you get caught?" Daisy asks.
"I'll be fine" You say. "But if you're worried... maybe find me some help inside?"

"We can do that" Lily says.
"Good" You say. "Ready?"

They nod, so you let go of their tails, find a nice fist-sized rock to pick up, stand up, and come out of hiding...

"Hey!" You shout. "The king sucks!"

You punctuate this by throwing your rock at them. You aim for the head, but you're a little off. The rock still hits the nearest one in the chest.

"Oi!" The un-rocked knight shouts. He takes an axe off his back, mutters something to the other guard, and charges you.

You turn to run away and lead them off, but the knight with the axe is the only one who seems to be giving chase.

Bad...

This is bad. They were both supposed to follow you. If one is still guarding the entrance, the devils can't get in. You'll have to-

Not panic, first of all.

You backpedal a bit to keep out of reach of the axe-knight.

Think, Yuu. What do these guys hate more than people saying bad things about the King?

...

Got it.

"I didn't know the knights here were so cowardly" You say. "Carthac will be glad to hear it"

"Is he-..."
"Stop him! Now!"

The other guard gives chase now, drawing a stick with a big metal ball and chain... that probably has a name...

Well, you'll have to ask Derrick later... right now it's time to run!

You turn around and dash back to the main street. When you reach it, you check back to make sure they didn't see the devils.

From the looks of it, they ran right past where you were hiding.

That's good. Now you just have to not get caught...

Noope. Can't turn back now. You'll just have to accept the fact that there will be more than 2 guards chasing you.

You run full tilt down the street, past the street that the front entrance to the Hunter's Guild lets out onto. The closer knights take notice of you, and then they all notice you once your pursuers yell for them.

So now it's you and about 20 knights chasing you. From a viewpoint other than yours, this might actually be funny. But from yours, it is anything but...

You turn onto another street, and then into an alley to try and lose them. As you run down the alley, you check over your shoulder to see if anyone is following-

"Oof!"

-and run straight into a wall. A dead end, to be more precise.

You don't see any ways out.

"Come on! He went this way!" You hear someone from the other end of the alley shout.

You can't run. There's no way you can fight your way out of this...

You need a way out.

You spot a ledge further up the wall. It's too high to jump to, but you might be able to make it work.

You run at one of the side walls, and jump off of it. You manage to get close, but not close enough.

If you could maybe reach further... got it!

You pull your mageblade out of your pocket, and 'create' the blade. Emi told you that you could extend and bend this however you wanted. That's what you need right now.

You need a hook, not a sword.

You tighten your focus to make the blade thinner, and will the blade to turn itself to make you a hook for climbing.

Then you jump off the wall again, and this time you get your hook up onto the ledge and swing your feet up. By the time the guards reach the dead end, you're above them.

You don't get a chance to rest. Your gut tells you that you still aren't safe, and as if it were trying to prove that your shadow darkens and sprouts several hands.

You jump away from the hands and snag the edge of the roof with your magehook, using it to pull yourself up and away. When you land on the roof, you immediately stand up and start running.

>[1/2]
>>
Okay, you're in the clear for now. But now all of the knights think you're a king-hating Hell's Legionnaire, which leaves you in a bad spot.

You keep running across the rooftops until they end, and only then do you stop and look back.

No one seems to be chasing you just yet, but that doesn't mean they aren't after you.

But you have bought yourself some time... which means you can sneak over to-

You just need somewhere to hide, until those guards decide that you've gotten away.

Looking over the ones that you can see, you spot one that looks a little burnt. The front door and all the windows are boarded up, but you can spot a hole in the boards that you could fit through.

You nod. That'll have to do, so you hop down. The landing is not what you were hoping for, and you stumble for a moment before you can actually run, but you do make it away without being seen.

After that, it's a short run to the burnt out building. The crack in the boards is smaller than it looked from far away, but you can still fit through... probably.

Let's just, get up in here. Would it be smarter to go in head first, or feet first?

Well, too late. The head's through now. You manage to shimmy your shoulders and chest through, then your waist and your legs.

One of your boots gets caught in the crack, but you manage to snag it before it falls out.

Once inside, you look around. The room you landed in is big, and the fire doesn't seem to have burnt the place too badly.

You check around the ground floor, and find nothing in here. Everything must've been removed.

But the stairs leading up look untouched, so you go up that way...

>[1/2]
>>
It doesn't look like the fire touched the second floor.

This area is one big room, with a desk, a bed, and a lot of bookcases. The walls are lined with them, and there are several rows of them in the centre of the floor... too bad you can't read, those would've been helpful for passing the time.

You make your way over to the lone window on this floor, and look out from a spot that's somewhat hidden.

The knights pass by this place on the street below. For a second they seem like they're ready to come in looking for you, but one of them warns the others off and they move on.

Whatever he told them, you couldn't tell. But they seemed scared...

This place isn't haunted, is it?

Do ghosts even exist here? You really have no way of telling.

Of course, you could always ask the presence you feel behind you...

...

You swallow, and slowly turn your head.

"Another intruder, huh?" A feminine voice asks. You catch her face out of the corner of her eye. She has big eyes that seem to catch the light and draw it in, with brown, feathery looking hair that has several grey streaks. "You have 5 seconds to give me a very compelling reason why you're in my study"

"Do ghosts exist?" You ask.
"Do ghosts exi-... is that why you're here? To ask me silly, existential questions?" She asks.

You turn around all the way, and get a better look at her.

The first thing you notice is that she doesn't have normal hands or feet. In place of arms, she has wings that are the same color as her hair. In place of feet she has talons with sharp, deadly looking claws.

The second thing you notice is that she looks fairly old. Her face is starting to wrinkle, and her hair is starting to go grey.

The third thing you notice is that despite her age and lack of hands, you feel very much in danger right now.

"No" You say. "I was just wondering that when you snuck up on me"
"Why were you thinking about ghosts?" She asks.
You shrug. "This place seemed haunted" You say.

The bird woman closes her eyes and chuckles. "Well, I assure you it isn't haunted-..." She says, as she opens her eyes again and fixes you with a stern glare. "Unless you'd like to be its first ghost, that is"

You frown. "I don't think I want to be a ghost" You say.
She leans in. "Then you'd better start telling me why you're here" She says.

"Because they were chasing me" You say.
The lady looks annoyed. "And why why -they- doing that?" She asks.
"Because I said the king was stupid" You say, as you look away from her and out the window. "And I may have told them something to make them believe I'm from Hell's Legion"

"Why would you tell them that?" She asks.
"Because I wanted them to chase me" You say.
Her eye twitches. "And why did you want them to chase you?" She asks.
"I wanted to lead them away from the Hunter's Guild" You say.

She sighs. "Why?" She asks.
"Because my friends needed to get inside" You say.
"Why?"
"Their parents were in there" You say.
"Why would the knights stop someone from getting into the guild to see their parents?" She asks.

"Because they were looking for their mom" You say. "And us, probably"
"Why?" She asks.
"Because we escaped from Mardi-gras" You say.

"Mardi-gras? What the hell is Mardi-gras?" She asks.
"That prison" You say. "Where they kill people"

She rubs her temples using the spot where her wings fold. "You mean -Mortifas-" She says.
"Yes" You reply. "That one"

Her head perks up, and she searches your face. "How in blazes did you escape from mortifas?" She asks.
