For House & Dominion: Civil War Quest http://houseanddominion.wikia.com/wiki/House_%26_Dominion_Complete_Archivehttp://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=House%20and%20Dominionhttps://twitter.com/ThatSlowTypingGYou are Sonia Reynard, Baron of Rioja. One small world among many in the House of Jerik-Dremine. From it you control the fates of a dozen others in the so called Smuggler's Run. With your new position you have the opportunity to become one of the most influential people in your House. It is from this world that you draw your fleets and armies from. Both have seen their share of action with anti-piracy actions, the battle of Magdalena, and a follow up planetary assault. Elements are deployed elsewhere helping to strengthen your allies while others have been recalled to the capital. As the Dominion slips deeper into civil war you and those under your command have been fighting to protect your little corner of known space. The DRH1 Relay is for the moment secure, though the threat remains; House Bonrah and House Nasidum have begun planning an attack to retake the area early in the next year.Knight Captain Katherine Drake is your fleet's Wing Commander.Uyi Rna is the General of your Army and is overseeing upgrades to your army. Wiremu Tama is the admiral of your Fleet. His efforts are now focused on preparing your forces to repel the upcoming invasion. Fadila Saqqaf is your leading diplomatic adviser. It's been with her help that you've been able to delegate responsibilities in the newly annexed territories.Chide Dlam'ard, the Governor of Rioja is keeping busy with the establishment and expansion of the new planetary capital.
The Arcology acting as the capital city of Rioja has come under attack. A HAG working in concert with a Recon team attempted to kill off higher ranking members of the military in the capital. You yourself survived by the actions of your bodyguards, buying time for you to use a secret escape elevator. From there you've retreated to the Mons Abyla military base which is now sealed. The HAG attacking the city has been all but destroyed, driven into the ground by a well executed ramming attack. The Frigate used by Captain Kymeri and the Rioja Special Response & Investigative Unit has suffered some minor damage in the process but remains operational. With their most visible means of transport lost the enemy Recon team has disappeared. They may have fled into the surrounding desert or might still be lurking within the city. Scanning teams are beginning an extensive search to ensure the latter is not the case.In what must be a related attack terrorists have released what seems to be a bio weapon on the larger of the two orbital stations. "We're detecting signs that parts of the structure are being corroded, but the bio hazard alarms were more in line with an accidental release of medical nanites. Those should have been held in check easily by emergency containment fields.People on the station have been pulled back to sections farthest away from the damage, but there were reports of marines in battle with terrorists at the entrance to the military sections. There are still firefights taking place there so our troops must be trying to hold them back.Someone on the station is trying to jam communications which is making things harder."
Worried that this might be the rust virus you encountered in South Reach you've contacted House intel and inform them about the bio weapon."Do you believe this to be a bio war attack using the rust virus you've previously encountered?" the officer asks. You're still uncertain. "I think it's spreading too fast but it seems this kind of problem isn't too rare." You recall the isolationist neeran mentioned running into this kind of problem at one point as well. With more than thirty ships still docked, including your command ship, there are still a lot of people on the station. [ ] Maintain quarantine for now[ ] Move ships away from station, isolate them[ ] Evacuate people from the station
>>46438899>[ ] Maintain quarantine for now
>>46438899Get the crews on their ships, get the civilians on the less valuable ships (are there any empty cargo ships docked right now), then move the ships away from the station and isolate them.We might also want to consider sending additional marines with standard armor to the station.
>>46438899>[ ] Move ships away from station, isolate themFOR HOUSE AND SURVEY!
>We might also want to consider sending additional marines with standard armor to the station. You discuss this with Intel. "It's a good idea. With Power Cell Armor being made of materials similar to the exteriors of starships in many respects it wouldn't be a good idea to take them inside. Based on data from the previous incident with the rust virus it should be possible to coat Marine armor with a chemical layer that will reduce the likelihood of uptake. In combination with Marine armor it might buy your people time to investigate.">>46438944>>46439007>>46439195So the compromise would seem to be Move ships away from station, isolate them. This ok?
>>46438899Move ships away from station. If the station blows we risk losing many of our core ships
>>46439594Seems like an adequate compromise.
"I don't want whatever is on that station wrecking our fleet if there's a chance they're not infected yet. Tell them to disengage and move them away from station. Designate a rally point for them in high orbit and have it isolated."Once they're away from the station the rest of your ships nearby are able to take better scans looking for signs of possible contamination. So far the warships look clean but a pair of the civilian ships that had been closer to the central core are more questionable. Maybourne and Tes'us contact you. Tes'us is of the opinion that the civilian ships should be destroyed now to contain the threat. Maybourne is against it; "If we destroy those ships it could scatter debris and potentially contaminate other ships.""Use plasma or fusion weapons and melt them to slag then."These two may be getting ahead of themselves. For now the ships are quarantined well away from system traffic. Some marines should be prepped as specified by Intel within the hour.Do you want to send a marine team with the armor modifications aboard the station? What are your objectives?
>>46440428>Do you want to send a marine team with the armor modifications aboard the station?Yes.>What are your objectives?Find out what happened in the areas that reported fighting. Locate survivors. Make sure everything critical is shut down and can't be rigged to explode.

>>46441246Put a thousand Marines down in the military wing and have them move at speed to the red zones. Put another two hundred or so in the top wing of the station since the bio weapon seems to have spread the most there so perhaps it's close to the source of it.

"Let's not over do it in case this turns out to be a one way trip. Recon in force, ask for volunteers."Twelve squads of Marines are more than enough to get a good picture of what's going on in the station and should be able to escape barring extreme circumstances. Shuttles from Mons Abyla launch into orbit carrying the Marines with the modified armor. They approach maintaining radio silence and deploy their troops without the shuttles coming in contact with the station itself.Once aboard the Marines set up secure com relays independent of the station networks. The larger team is able to make contact with troops still aboard commanded by Drake. She's had each section with its own life support sealed to slow the progression of any contaminants spreading. People already in quarantined sections have been advised to shelter in place or go to the medical wards. Those with combat training have been ordered to help marines fighting the terrorists. "The com jamming is making it hard to talk to those nearest the epicenter."South and west wings report similar precautions having been taken but the same cant be said for the north. Alarms have been triggered in the rest of that wing though the Marines are seeing no signs of anything actually hazardous. The external team isn't finding any signs of damage to the outer hull at first glance. External team doesn't find any signs of a hull breach or corrosion on the outer hull. "Why wouldn't they hit the outside of the station? It has the best chance of spreading unnoticed and unchecked there." you wonder aloud."Perhaps that would have taken longer than they were prepared to wait?" posits General Rna. "In either event it means we may be able to salvage the outer hull of the station, even if scraping the interior would be needed."After completing their sweep of the station core one of the Marines notices something on their way back to the rally point. "I think I've found a ship sir."There isn't one on sensors, but jamming is making it hard to be sure. Examining the location more carefully the team identifies what seem to be an Aries brand LST fitted with holographic camouflage and stealth plating."That explains how these jokers got on board. I wouldn't bet any money on it not being booby trapped."1) What to do about the LST?1a) Have a team attempt to board and secure it1b) Leave it alone for now1c) Destroy it1d) Other2) Send the other teams deeper into the station? "Tell the other teams to move in. External team, sabotage the engines on that ship or give us a way to track it if they use it to escape. Whatever you think will give us the best chance without putting you in more danger."In a few minutes they report that breaching charges have been affixed to the ship's engines and will detonate if anyone tries to power them up or tamper with them. The Marine advance through the station is slower than you would like. Teams need to set up their com relays while making sure to seal sections behind them. The northern team is the first to reach the sections where corrosion seemed to be taking place."Not seeing anything that could be described as rust.""Look for damage to structural supports or anything made of Tritanium." "Hang on, we have a structural brace that looks to be damaged."You listen intently for the next report."From our scans it looks like it's falling apart from the inside out. Corporal Davies is taking the unscientific method of using a cheap chair from a nearby restaurant to poke at it.""Sarge, did you have to-""Just do it already."You can hear the sound similar to spilling sand and the marines cursing."Report!""It just crumbled at the point of impact. What looked like grey sand spilled out and almost immediately began to disperse into an aerosol. Our biohazard alarms are going crazy but it looks like levels are dropping fast.""Upload video immediately." orders Rna.It takes a few seconds to upload via the com relays but soon you're seeing the same thing. It's part of the reason warship systems are so heavily hardened against such damage. Some of your Marines have phase rifles, pistols or stun pulse grenades. In the 2107 incident the phase cannon fire being exchanged between a Kavarian assault transport and a Rovinar Battleship were enough to EMP most of Earth's orbital infrastructure.>>46445908>This entire station will be gone in like an hour at this rate!Longer than that fortunately.>Secure sample if possible."I am not being paid enough for this shit." whispers the Marine assigned to bottle a sample from the degrading support.>Is there food nearby so they can test the effect on organic matter? The marine hands off a second sample bottle so someone else can test this theory and take the risks."According to the scanner only metals are being consumed but this is only over a few seconds observation. Resolution on the scanners we have isn't the best for this but these certainly look like medical nanites.">>46445994"Nobody get the idea to take of their armor."This prompts a few nervous laughs in response."Can we disconnect the unafflicted station modules from the rest of the station?"One of the ops officers speak up."Wouldn't be easy without breaking quarantine. Without access to the operations center or starships nearby to catch them it also might destabilize the station's orbit.">cont.
>>46446010>Maybe see if discharging a Phase Weapon disables or damages them?Targeting a damaged bulkhead with phase rifle fire it seems to cause some damage but as before most of the "sand" quickly boils away before serious damage can be done. These are not normal medical nanites."Your intel contact isn't much help right now. "This isn't something my department is equipped to deal with, you need an historian!">Your orders?

>>46448951The blood is on their hands, not ours. Do they truly think this sort of barbaric action will help them? If they surrender now we will treat them as prisoners of war, with all the obligations as well as courtesy associated with civilized standards, but if they insist on resorting to terrorism you will see that not only are they held personally accountable but that their houses will bear the brunt of criticism for their actions. Nobility, the right of leadership, comes with obligation as well as privilege. As you have had to personally bear the weight of your decisions and the actions of those beneath you, there are certain lines which once crossed cannot be gone back to. And while reparations and atonement may occur, it doesn't erase the past. They have failed. Their mission is over, and while there is no dishonor in such an outcome in the fortunes of war, there is still how they choose to accept such an outcome. To accept the result and deal with it as equals and Noble opposers, or to lash out as degenerate beasts at innocents and those who were merely fulfilling their obligations as loyal vassals.History, and the Dominion itself will judge how they choose, but you will never bend the knee to cowards that hide behind the lives of innocents.Or not, I dunno just thinking that politically this is the sort of shit that violates the precepts of nobility and legitimacy to lead when you abandon the code that makes the dominion a kingdom/empire instead of a dark room where everyone holds a knife.

Every nearby ship opens fire, trying to hit the fast moving targets. Some of the initial shots are quite close but none are direct hits. It looks like they're going to be too close soon for the phase cannons to land reliable hits when the Outer Heaven pulses it's shields. The impact is enough to kill the momentum of the incoming projectiles, all but halting them in place. The tips of the two cones shatter into a cloud of smaller particles, almost certainly nanites. Almost immediately they try to maneuver causing some of the weapon fire to miss. Some shots still hit their mark, boiling away multiple protective layers. They can't take many more hits and when Outer Heaven launches a plasma ball it looks like it's all over foir them. Still through some miracle one of them makes it through and reaches one of the EC-K's, matching speed and penetrating its shields."Now!" you order. The crew teleports out. When the attacker reaches the hull with the remains of their nanite shroud in tow the reactors on the ship go super critical followed by detonation of the torpedo magazines. In the span of half a second a fireball consumes the ship and everything within a kilometer of it. Some of the troops brought along power cell armor and from the reports they're certainly glad for it. The much tougher armor is able to slow down attacks long enough for friendlies to clear the encroaching swarm. There are concerns that the nanites will be harder to kill if they manage to take down one of the suits."One third of the nanites attacking us are made of hardened tritanium, not the normal stuff."A few minutes later the teams have advanced far enough to reach the station core module."Visual contact with one of the terrorists." The image they send shows a power suited individual handing in the air, their armor reduced to an almost skeletal looking state. The bright light of a fusion reaction emanates from a sphere of swarming nanites half the height of a person that seems to be attached to their back. "The radiation from that reactor must be lethal at that range." comments the General.A couple of the Marines switch to 20mm mass drivers and plasma blasters, targeting the enemy. Each shot is met by walls of the nanites nearest the user forming whipple shields to block them. An attempt by it to return fire by funneling plasma from it's reactor is disrupted by additional 20mm fire with incendiaries."Focus fire!"Shots from one hundred marines and soldiers are diverted from holding the nanites at bay to disrupt the terrorist and allows a a few more shots to get through. One of your specialist Neeran killer rounds connects punches through the helmet. There's a brief delay then the nanites holding the fusion reactor in check lose cohesion and it explodes. Nanites are scattered in every direction by the blast, either out of control of offline.
It takes a bit for the closest Marines to shake off the effects of the blast. Those arriving from further back report in."Minimal wounded form the explosion. Most of the Nanites look to be disabled but we're not taking any chances. Stun any of our guys that look like they've taken shrapnel damage."General Rna breaks in on coms. "There should be a fourth one. Stay alert.">Is Sonia going up there with the Gunship or not?

You arrive in orbit as quickly as possible, scanning the station as you approach. Against your better judgement you pick up Drake to act as your back seat operator.Nearby ships are starting to back off their ECM a bit to allow better communication with the teams performing the sweep of the station. From your position outside the interior looks to have been gutted by the combination of fighting and nanites chewing up materials.Things are looking quiet now with lack of real activity from the remaining swarms but there are still lingering power readings bouncing around in the station core."Cut the remaining jamming so we can triangulate this power reading more accurately.""Copy that." With the remaining jamming off the few positive readings around the station are from shuttles and LSTs."Power cell team twelve here. We've got a faint signature on the move towards the LSTs but have no visual confirmation."You angle your gunship for a better look but can't see anything on most wavelengths. >>46485851How would that work?

"Drake, open up with the point defense."A hail of expanding energy pulses rain down on the station sections near the LST. You add your own micro phase cannon fire, holding back the particle beams and missiles until you have a clear target. Apparently these pulse weapons also seem to be effective against holographic camo systems because fairly soon you have a target pop-up on sensors. You shift your fire upwards and add in shots from the oversized particle beams. The target's suit backpack lights up, fusion flame kicking it out of the way of your weapons fire. You slam the throttle forward, acceleration pressing you into your seat. "Just have the starships shoot."You have to check your fire as you close in on Marine squads sweeping the outer hull. They do what they can to try and slow your target with their own small arms fire. Approaching the station core you manage a hit but it doesn't seem to be enough to kill. "That shot should have cut them in half." Drake points out. "Maybe we should pull back?""Not yet."A missile detonation sends the suit spiraling out of control and crashing to the station surface. Drake does a detailed scan to confirm. "You got him. Basically a bunch of people you've pissed off over the years decided to go sinister six on your ass... just, you know, with four of them. The assassination attempt on the surface however was a totally different group.
>>46511924Did we manage to recover any biological bits of the attackers?Awww, no chance of being friends? It always feels like failure to me if there isn't even an option for a peaceful solution.
>>46511478>I mean what kind of suicidal person would ride in it?I wouldn't mind some of those upgrades on ours. Without the reactor, of course.
>>46511924Wait was this all about what happened on the John Avery? Goddamn people, get a life already.
>>46511924>It was something you guys did a long time ago.I was going to list all the terrible things we've done over the years but that would take a while.I bet one was Marson Edict. They really thought hostages were going to work didn't they? Also I was absolutely expecting a 'Nightmare Engine' to be some kind of hellish planetary turbofucker.
>>46512300>Also I was absolutely expecting a 'Nightmare Engine' to be some kind of hellish planetary turbofucker.Same here, I was expecting some neeran subspace shenanigans, or them turning the planet into a gigantic wormhole gate with the nanites.
>>46512300>hostagesAny survivors? Either from the hostages, or the marines we lost contact with?
>>46491455>[x] Listen.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAdtHu5dPiI"Who from this planet would be piloting an overgunned, overpriced gimmick of a weapon system?"One of the Marine officers broadcasts on the command frequency. "Sir, additional movement from the remaining Nanites!" "RRRRAYNARD!"With that the reawakened swarm of nanites bursts forth from the nearby hole previously left in the station hull by the enemy LST. Squeezing the triggers you fire off a pair of particle beam shots in an attempt to end this quickly. Too late.A sphere of nanites block your fire and the suit reactor lights up as it increases its output. Drake sets the point defense firing as rapidly as possible but more of the swarm pours out of the station each second. Small disks form and launch themselves towards your Gunship, acting as sacrificial shields for the phase rifle shots. There's no shortage of replacements. With the background glow of the suit reactor your sensors can make out the ruined armor with only the head, an arm and upper torso remaining. This soon expands as some of the swarm rebuild the body into a near complete humanoid form. It doesn't stop there, more layers expanding the form until it's closer in size to your Gunship."Face me or I'll tear you out of that ship myself!"At which point you would have had some conversation options as you fought them in a climactic battle. That was more or less what I was going for. Having the Neeran artifacts would have made it interesting.>>46512300>I was going to list all the terrible things we've done over the years but that would take a while. And just think, they only needed to find four people out of all of those that were insane.>>46512368It certainly could have been a lot worse if they'd crashed the station on the planet.
>>46512387I dunno, there were a couple of badasses in that south squad that aced their morale check in a suicidal situation. Which in hindsight got the vast majority of their squad killed by nanites.Roll 2d100 !
Rolled 84, 18 = 102 (2d100)>>46512605DOUBLE HUNDREDS
Rolled 19, 85 = 104 (2d100)>>46512605Dice Ho!
Rolled 13 (1d100)>>46512531"Yes, it is I - Psycho Sonia but I am not alone!""With me is my trusty second in comand - Mini Wini (fred)">>465126051
Rolled 99 (1d100)>>465126952>And just think, they only needed to find four people out of all of those that were insane.Well, if this had worked, they would have been functionally immortal. Not exactly that bad a deal.
>>46512531>Having the Neeran artifacts would have made it interesting. It would have been cool for sure but they're both really situational. The Lightning Gun would probably do a lot of damage to the nanites and maybe the reactor and we can't even use the other thing.
>>46512695>Mini Wini"If you tell anyone that I'm going to kill you. Slowly." -Drake>84, 99One of them has survived almost unscathed while the other will be laid up in hospital for an extended period. How do you plan to treat these two heroes? And by extension what are your plans for the other squads that decided on their own what the better part of valour was?
>>46512531That's why they should have gotten five people with attitude for this job.
Thread archived. Planning for next game to be on Saturday unless anything changes.
>>46512808>How do you plan to treat these two heroes?I actually want to grant them some land, money, and a posting of their choice.
Rolled 4 (1d20)>>46512808>How do you plan to treat these two heroes? The best thing while we figure out what to do with them is probably therapy. For everybody involved in this before we figured out how to combat the nanites effectively. There has to be some kind of medal for unintentionally surviving something as horrible and lethal as this. One even Sonia hasn't qualified for yet.Would this qualify them for knighthood? If the RH knew about this, they would probably get invitations to the royal guard by the end of the day.>And by extension what are your plans for the other squads that decided on their own what the better part of valour was?Well, they technically disobeyed their orders but I don't think murder nanites count as normal circumstances.>hostagesNone of the factions species can survive prolonged oxygen deprivation?>"If you tell anyone that I'm going to kill you. Slowly." -DrakeRolling to see if Sonia can avoid making a smug face.
>>46512808Whatever happens I'd definitely like to meet them in person.
>>46513201>There has to be some kind of medal for unintentionally surviving something as horrible and lethal as this. One even Sonia hasn't qualified for yet.If there isn't I'll make one.>Would this qualify them for knighthood?Maybe not instantly but that's really your call. You could put them in OCS and training to become Knights.>None of the factions species can survive prolonged oxygen deprivation? Not for that long. The arriving marines were also somewhat preoccupied with shooting nanites in order to stay alive. Checking for non-combatant survivors was a somewhat low priority before the last 2 terrorists were killed.
>>46512300>I was going to list all the terrible things we've done over the years but that would take a while.I think the list of really terrible things would be pretty short.I have to admit the thing I still feel worst about is handing that PI who was shadowing drake over to winifred. Having the guy shot still seems a bit much.
Given the business with the reactors being able to scale to any level and us having been briefed on Neeran reactors I think it's pretty safe to say they were at least partially supported by them.
>>46512918Thanks for the thread TSTG!
