Welp, more news form our tabletop! We managed to accrue enough research that we could build an Abyssal early warning system, and managed to successfully protect it from Abyssal attacks. HOWEVER, the fucking separatist Northern Japs send over their own fleet to destroyer because NIPPON PRIDE, GAIJIN PREASE REAVE. The Northern fleet consisted of a bunch of Kongou-class destroyers, Kaga, Tatsuta, and... Mikasa, one of the original dreadnoughts.

Suffice to say, the Kongous were completely BTFO (sending ships to a shipgirl fight!), Tastuta was oneshotted (much to Tenryuu's alarm), and Kaga got her ass beat by Victorious, who just couldn't resist styling all over her Japanese counterpart. Mikasa got tasered by Ontario and convinced to surrender when she saw the rest of her fleet burning or at the bottom of the ocean.

And of course, the Japanese civil war goes hot, so now we have to deal with all THAT shit now in addition to the Abyssals...

You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, you were continuing your attack on Midway island. The Abyssal superbattleship Tanager was crippled, and surprisingly enough, MULBERRY was among the Marine landing forces assaulting the island. And the moment her boots touched the sand, all hell broke loose.

Flanked by a pair of M1A1 Abrams tanks in a defensive formation around her, Mulberry kneeled down as the lines of her Rig, of which you had never seen before, start to sketch themselves into reality. It's large, MASSIVE, even. Bigger than any Rig you've seen so far, which was understandable, since Mulberry wasn't actually a ship, but a full blown port. Docks, piers, and cranes begin to form. Behind her shoulders, a pair of long runways begin crafting themselves. However, those weren't the oddest sights.

https://youtu.be/Vx1igDCbgq8?t=44s

Those were the hundreds, no, thousands of faeries pouring out of Mulberry's Rig. Many were dressed in the familiar green garb of US Army Rangers, charging forward on their tiny little feet. However, even more were dressed up as the Navy CBs, in their work coveralls, bright yellow helmets, and even their own miniature construction equipment as they quickly expand the facilities around Mulberry, erecting fortifications and AA positions that not only they could utilize, but the full size Marines they were supporting, as well. It was like watching ants building a hive in real time.
You could see another group of construction faeries ranging out towards the carcass of one of the fallen Abyssal land combat forms. Immediately, tiny power says and torche were whipped out as the carcass was stripped down, with other faeries taking the harvested materials and assembling them into tiny M4 Sherman tanks. It was almost adorable.

That was until one particular faerie, apparently more senior than the others, ran down the line, a golden mallet in its hand. It comes to the first assembled Sherman and strikes it with the mallet, eliciting not only a massive CLANG, but a small explosion that partially clouds the area in smoke and dust.

...and rolling out of that cloud was a full size M4 Sherman, lumbering forward to support the Marines at the front, joining up with the Abrams already deployed, much to the initial shock and confusion of the Abrams commanders. Soon, the mixed Abrams/Sherman line moved forward as literal rolling thunder, unleashing storms of bullets and cannon fire into the Abyssal lines.

However, the Abyssals weren't taking this lying down, either. At the center of the island, the massive black spire opened up, revealing an impossibly beautiful, pale humanoid Abyssal, the Midway Princess. She shoots Mulberry a disdainful glare as a fresh wave of Abyssal aircraft spew from the ground, all focusing their efforts on Mulberry.

Mulberry responds by launching her own planes. A mix of P-51s, P-47s, P-38s, and more to meet the enemy force.

"Hey, HEY!" Johnston yells as she punches you in the shoulder, finally grabbing your attention.

"What?!" You spin to face her.

"That bitch is getting away!" Johnston points to Tanager's back, as she speeds away for the relative safety of open water.

"Anna, what's the status of our air power? Can we send anything after her?" North Carolina asks calmly through her radio.

"S-sorry, all our air assets are tied up!" Anna cries apologetically. "They're being directed on all the other fronts!"

"Damn." North Carolina seethes. You can tell she's considering chasing down Tanager, but you also see her and Washington stealing glances back at the direction Iowa's force was. They had to leave her to effectively fend for herself, after all, and they were obviously conflicted about heading back to help.

"We can't let her get away!" You yell at North Carolina. "We gotta send something after her!"

"Agreed." North Carolina nods. "We can't let an Abyssal as powerful as Tanager flee to fight another day. Anna, are you sure you don't have anything?"

"W-well, I can route a helicopter force armed for surface attack after her, but they'd be within her flak range..."

"If it weren't for Iowa taking up our slack, I'd volunteer right away." North Carolina growls. "And no guarantee me and Washington could catch her, either."

"We can handle it!" Johnston boasts. "Not the first battleship we've handled!"

"Be that as it may, you could be more useful on other fronts." North Carolina sighs. "Mulberry could use more air defense and we still haven't found Geofons..."

Have them fire from water level, her guns can't depress to hit a helicopter - they didn't exist when she was built. Not to mention her gun directors were designed to hit moving targets, helicopters can come to a dead stop or reverse which will throw her aim off considerably.

"It's okay, we'll handle it!" You assure the larger battleships. "We still got one load of torps left, so we should be able to handle her!"

"All right." North Carolina says a bit reluctantly, unsure if a few destroyers could REALLY take down Tanager, even a weakened one. "We're heading back to help Iowa, but if you get into any trouble, don't be afraid to call for help."

"We won't need it." You grin.

The two battleships then turn and speed back to the main fleet battle.

"That's a lot of big talk right there, Hoel." Portland frowns as she looks at you. "My propulsion's damaged, so there's no way I can keep up with you. Luce, Daly, and Wren don't have much experience and San Diego and Ontario don't have that much armor for ships their size. You sure you want them to come along, too?

"We can handle her!" You say confidently. "Just me, Johnston and Heerman, right girls?"

"Yeah!" Johnston whoops.

Heerman just gives a slight grin and nods.

"AAAAAWWWWWWW!" Wren groans. "But we wanna come, too!"

"Sorry." You pat your fellow Fletcher on the head. "But Tanager ain't a ship you girls are ready to tackle head on. Just stick back with the others and help out Mulberry, okay? Looks like her AA defenses are gonna need all the help they can get."

"Okaaaay." Wren sighs.

"Don't worry, I'll keep a leash on them." Portland assures you. "Now get going. She's just putting more distance between us and her the longer you stick around.

"Right!" You nod as you spin around and steam off at full speed, your sisters right behind you.

Up in the distance, you could see the faint trail of smoke Tanager's damaged Rig was belching. With that sort of hurt laid on her, there was no way she could be steaming at full speed. Howeer, with how savage the current battle was going, there wasn't anybody available to stop her.

"Hoel, I've got my planes ready to launch." White Plains says over the radio. "What do you need?"

"Send out some dive bombers!" You request from her. "Let's get some damage in!"

"Roger!" White Plains says with determination. Behind you, you can hear the brief pops of her M1 Carbine as she launches fresh Helldivers in quick succession.

"I got my bombers coming in too to lend a hand!" Hornet chortles. "Let's take this bitch out, White Plains! Show her why we carriers are the queens of the sea now!"

You bite back a retort as you focus on keeping your speed constant and high. Up above, you can see two squadrons of Helldivers zoom past, gaining altitude as they go in order to get the clearance they need to properly dive bomb. Farther back, your radar pings up a cloud of Hornet's relatively slower bombers as they lumber forward.

It seems that Tanager's radar is still working, as immediately her flak cannons immediately spin into place and go to their highest elevation possible, lobbing flak shells into the sky. Thanks to their high altitude approach, the Helldivers manage to avoid the worst of the flak and begin their attack runs. Tanager attempts to perform evasive maneuvers, but the damage she suffered makes her movements more sluggish. While a few of the bombs miss their mark and land in the water around her, the majority strike her superstructure, ripping into her tattered armor like paper and shearing more and more of her hull apart. Secondary explosion ripple through her Rig, and you can hear an inhuman shriek over the radio.

"Haha yeah, eat it, bitch!" Johnston cackles.

Hornet's B-25H bombers then take their turn. In contrast to Helldivers, these bombers fly low in order to line up their belly mounted 75mm cannons and let loose, showering Tanager with more shells, slamming into and bouncing off her armor.

However, in desperation, Tanager's two remaining functional 16" turrets spin around and fire. The shells don't score a direct hit on the bombers, but they don't need to. The shells had enough massive and explosive to power to create massive geysers of water in the air. At the speeds they were going, the water may as well have been pillars of concrete to the bombers. One shell explodes right underneath one of the lead bombers, lancing a column of water right into its belly and shattering the plane like glass. Another bomber goes down as its wing is sheared off by another column, and the rest of the bombers immediately break off, only scoring some minor damage.

But the aircraft did their job. Tanager was was now on fire, even thicker black smoke belching from her ruined Rig, her speed slowing to a crawl. Her turrets begin to traverse in your direction. She knows you're here, and she knows you're coming for her.

"Woohoo! Let's get her!" Johnston whoops, preparing her shield.

And then you feel a familiar buzzing in your head. Before, you had no idea what it mean, but now you have an idea...

I'm asking to you surrender." You state simply. "You've lost here."

"Is that what you think?" Tanager chuckles and then coughs. "You chase me all the way out here, but the Princess will destroy you all. I'm but a fly compared to her beauty."

"I'll take that as a no."

"If you want to me to surrender, then you will have to make me." Tanager laughs, as if she was looking forward to see you try. Guess that was that.

"Fine." You say as you cut the connection. The color and warmth of the world suddenly comes flooding back into your senses and time begins to run like normal.

Johnston and Heerman pass by you, bobbing and weaving to avoid Tanager's defensive fire. Tanager's turrets try to track them, but they're jammed up with debris and warped by the heat of the fires wracking her Rig. It was almost pathetic, really.

Johnston and Heerman let off their torpedoes and they streak out. The crippled Tanager does her best to avoid them, but regardless she is wracked with explosions. Another inhuman scream echoes across the radio. Seeing Johnston and Heerman visibly wince, you can tell that Tanager was broadcasting over the radio rather than directly at you. Your sisters quickly break off before Tanager can retaliate again.

"Get her, Hoel!" Heerman calls out. "She's on her last legs!"

Tanager locks eyes with you, her crimson eyes narrowing as if daring you to come in and finish her off.

Nope. You remember what happened when Haida tried the same thing. You let loose your torpedoes, watching them drop into the water and speed away to the now crippled and listing Tanager.

However, she doesn't scream in rage or howl at the heavens at her fate. She just smiles serenely right and right before the torpedoes strike, she says something to. Not through the radio, but through her "connection."

"They will know, Hoel. And what will you do once they find out?"

"Wha-" You're about to ask before your torpedoes make contact, and Tanager is gone, disappeared into a cloud of fire and mist. You throttle back your engines and come to a stop at what was left of Tanager. A shredded corpse floating in a growing oil slick, her once pristine marble skin now charred and torn from damage. Her slim black gown was completely burned off, leaving her grotesquely nude among the broken pieces of her Rig.

However, before you can move in to confirm if she was really dead or not, a squadron of helicopters swoops in, hovering over Tanager's fallen form. Men clad in biohazard suits quickly rappel down from them and into the water. They quickly begin recovering the Rig parts, while another team carefully places Tanager's corpse into a bodybag while a pair of heavily armed Cobra attack helicopters keep their weapons trained on it.

"We have things handled here, girls." One of the biohazard suited men says. You can clearly tell they're not STRIKE-1.

"Anna, who are these chumps?" You ask. "Are they legit?"

"They're... oh no!" Anna gasps. "They're definitely Science Division. Their clearance is super high!"

"Ugh." You grimace. They definitely were Vahlen's goons. But it's not like you could really do anything about them, especially with the battle raging on still. You spin on your heel and start steaming back towards the island.

"Man, those guys really give me the CREEPS." Johnston shivers. "They don't feel nice at all!"

"Definitely not the very trustworthy type." Heerman agrees.

You scan the battle area with your radar again, and almost overwhelmed with the sheer chaos of what was going on now. The air was filled with clouds of aircraft, conventional, faerie, and Abyssal as they swarmed like locusts. On the surface, the Abyssal and shipgirl fleets continued to slug it out. Iowa, now with North Carolina and Washington back at her side, were starting to push the Abyssal battleship line back, but it was going slower than intended. On the beach, the Midway Princess was continuing to send down hails of aircraft at Mulberry, who was only barely able to hold it off with her own aircraft as well as AA assistance from the other half of your task force. Farther west, Midway's blocking force was still holding off Geofons' aircraft waves, but with no idea where the carrier itself was, they couldn't retaliate.

And all the while, Anna was busy drinking in all this information, gathered from dozens of sources, and directing ships, aircraft, and troops where they were needed at exactly the right time. Over the overall fleet channel, her nonstop orders and course corrections were proving invaluable at hitting the Abyssals where it hurt and stemming their advances. It was here that you could now truly see why Anna had such an important place in the fleet.

"Anna!" You call out to your friend. "We just knocked out Tanager, where do we need to go?"

"Ummm, ummm." Anna hesitates for a brief second. "Iowa's battlegroup is at a standstill right now. If she can knock out those battleships, she can start contributing her firepower to the landing forces! But, but Mulberry and Midway are both under serious air attack. They could use some help, too..."

"We're heading to help Mulberry!" You exclaim.

"Roger that!" Anna responds. "Now that the Midway Princess has exposed herself, the Navy's going to prepare to fire a wave of cruise missiles at her, so watch out for that!"

"Gotcha!" You nod as you speed back towards the shore. There, you see the Fletchers had already "beached" themselves, taking up position alongside Mulberry as their 5 inchers fire as fast as they can cycle. San Diego likewise is unleashing a curtain of flak every time she fires a volley. Ontario and Portland provide what firepower that they can, even if they aren't specialized for air defense. Between them and Mulberry's own defensive fighters, Abyssal fighters fall from the sky like rain, but there are always more to replace them. You and your sisters quickly add your firepower to the battle, knocking out any Abyssal planes that get too close.

"So how are things going?" You ask Portland as you sail up alongside her, both her five inch and eight inch cannons ripple firing.

"Not good." Portland grunts. "Mulberry may not be showing it, but she can't keep this up. That Midway Princess has got the home field advantage, and can throw more fighters at Mulberry than she can put up. All our other carriers besides Hornet are occupied with their own objectives."

"So it's up to us, huh?" You grin.

"Or the Navy." Portland nods to the wave of Tomahawk missiles sailing in from the main fleet.

"Woohoo! Go Navy!" Johnston whoops as the Tomahawks fly overhead.

The Midway Princess, however, looks up at the missiles with almost a bored expression. With a wave of her hand, numerous flak cannons on both her Rig and built into the island itself fire in unison. Dozens of Tomahawks explode or knocked off course, while the remainder are intercepted by Abyssal fighters diving down and sacrificing themselves. Explosions ripple all around the Midway Princess, but not a single one even comes close to marring her perfect marble skin and dress.

"Shore party, damage assessment?" Anna asks.

"Negative on damage! Zero effect!" Portland responds. "Midway Princess as anti-missile capability! I repeat, Midway Princess has anti-missile capability!"

"S-stand by, shore party!" Anna quickly cuts the line, no doubt to relay the bad news to the Admiral.

"We can't just stay on the defense here forever!" Heerman grunts and points to the Midway Princess'. "We need to take the battle to her! Find some way to suppress her!"

"But we can't get there by sea!" Johnston points out.

"We got something we never had in our old lives." Heerman smiles as she points to her legs.

"Oh, right." Johnston concedes.

"You can't be serious." Portland gaped.

"C'mon, it's me!" You grin.

"Don't tell me the just the three of you will be going..." Ontario says with worry.

"Ontario!" You call out to the Canadian cruiser. "We're moving up the beach to lay some smackdown on that Midway Princess! Wanna come with!"

"Gladly!" Ontario says, a fire burning in her sapphire eyes. It looks like she still wasn't quite over Haida getting hurt like that. "Come along, girls, we'll show her some proper discipline!"

And like an angel of battle, Ontario strides on to the field and naturally takes the lead. You and your sisters just instinctively follow her as she heads up to the main battle line, where a row of Abrams and Shermans were parked atop a small ridge, trading fire with Abyssal units and positions while Marines lay behind the tanks and ridge in defensive positions.

"Ah, Captain, why has your attack stalled?" Ontario asks one of the Marines politely.

"Well, uh." The Marine Captain pauses, not sure how to properly address a woman from a foreign navy, much less a shipgirl in the flesh. "Their air cover's too much. We're at the edge of Mulberry's AA coverage, and they'll just dive down and attack us if we move any further.

"Well, that just won't do." Ontario huffs. "How can we help?"

"Well, we've managed to spot where those planes are coming out from." The Captain points to a distant airfield spewing out Abyssal fighters like a geyser. "We figure if we manage to plug that bastard, their air power will dry up. Problem is it's in their AA defense zone, so we can't get missiles at it and its too far for our tanks to get a clean shot at it. Our tanks can't get near, but since you're smaller targets and have AA protection, maybe you can get closer than we can."

"Hmmmm." Ontario stops to think. "Can't your navy do something? They're always bragging about how good their anti-air missiles are."

"We've put in the request, but they're afraid of using up all their missiles." The Marine Captain explains. "Once they're gone, they're gone."

"We got AA systems right here!" You pat your 5 inch gun. "We'll keep you guys covered!"

The Marine Captain looks at you a bit skeptically, but then sighs.

"All right. You girls watch our skies and we'll push that Abyssal's shit in." The Marine Captain assures you. "ALL RIGHT, ALL UNITS, THIS IS IT! GUNS LOADED AND LET'S MOVE OUT! ROLL THIS ISLAND FLAT!"

A loud "HOORAH!" ripples across the battle line and the radio net as the line of Abrams and Shermans kicks into gear and drives off their position on the ridge, their machine guns and cannons firing as they went. Lining up behind the armor were the LAVs, AAVs, and Humvees, providing their own firepower to the fight, and behind those were the Marines themselves, using the vehicles as cover until they could get into range to use their own weapons. You and your sisters and Ontario each ride on the back of one of the Abram. While Ontario uses her six inch cannons to provide fire support for the ground advance, blowing apart Abyssal ground formations and gun batteries, you and your sisters watch the skies.

"BATS INBOUND!" One of the Marine screams.

In the rear line, dozens of mounted .50 caliber MGs and hundreds of Beowulf rifles roar, sending tracers into the sky and into the cloud of diving, chittering Abyssal fighters. You and your sisters open fire as well, sending flak directly into the mass of fighters, sending them down in flames by the dozens. The few that manage to get past you and your sisters' flak curtain are mopped up by Stinger armed Marines and Avengers taking up the rear, belching missiles as fast as they can be fired and reloaded.

However, the advance was not without cost. While the mighty Abrams were proof against pretty much anything the Abyssals could throw at them from the front, the Shermans, with their thinner armor, were not so lucky. You see several explode from hits by heavy cannons, sending fire and shrapnel everywhere. But their sacrifices are not in vain, as Ontario is quick to track the source of the shells and demolish them with her heavy guns.

With their air cover neutered and enemy forces advancing upon them, the Abyssal ground forces are stirred into a frenzy, crawling out of various holes and hiding spots and charging the advancing tide of armor and guns and death. As they die, other Abyssals, some kind of multi-armed construction type, quickly begin erecting obstacles like dragon's teeth in the advance's path.

"Damn!" The commander of the Abrams you're riding curses as he pops out of his hatch and turns to you. "We can't advance the tanks with those obstacles in the way! You think you can lead the infantry in? We're so damn close!"

"Now you're talking!" You laugh as you hop off the Abrams and charge up the ridge, screaming, "COME ON LADIES, YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER?!"

"Really, Hoel, really?" Heerman groans.

"And I thought Portland was the nerd." Johnston sighs.

"What, I always wanted to say that!"

"Well, it certainly got the troops riled up!" Ontario smiles as another loud "HOORAH!" echoes down the line as the Marines charge forward up the ridge after you.

Johnston is the first to crest the hill, her shield raised, and for good reason. Almost immediately, shells from cannon toting Abyssals hiding on the reverse slope open up, but they bounce uselessly off of Johnston's composite shield.

And Ontario is already on the move, sliding down the slope of the ridge directly into the Abyssal mass, her six inch cannons spitting fire and death in all directions. The rest of the Marines take up positions on the top the ridge and begin unloading their weaponry the packed Abyssals, wreaking a terrible toll on them.

And there, you have a straight line of sight on the Midway Princess, you gives you all a hateful glare as bullets and mortar shells start striking and bouncing off her body.

"Cover us, guys!" You yell to the Marines. "We're going in!"

"You heard the nice lady!" One of the Marines barks. "COVERING FIRE!"

A storm of .50 caliber rounds and a few rockets fly at the Midway Princess, further marring her once pristine form. The Abyssal winces and waves her hand, and a large plate of black steel rises from the ground beneath her to act as a shield.

Meanwhile, there's a distant BOOM as sappers plug Midway Princess' runway, finally arresting the endless flow of aircraft, and hopefully putting some pressure off of Mulberry.

You and your sisters, each screaming your own war cry, charge the Midway Princess, your cannons blazing as you go. On your flank, Ontario rams through wall of Abyssals, sending them flying in all directions as she has no wish to be left behind. Her heavier six inch cannons firing as well.

The Midway Princess is pepper endlessly with your combined firepower, your shells rippling explosions all along her body and her Rig. Your sisters and Ontario add in their firepower too. Johnston is too busy using her shield to ward away incoming attacks, but Heerman and Ontario both manage to hit home as well, taking shunks off of Midway Princess' Rig. The Midway Princess narrows her eyes and you feel the air grow heavy.

The Midway Princess then stands on her feet and walks forward. Hydraulic, oil, and power lines stretch and snap as she disconnects herself her spot on the ground. Her Rig warps and reforms and then melts into the ground. Her body begins to glow red and the ground rumbles.

"What-" You start to stay but don't finish when you see the spire behind the Midway Princess crumble and melt, swirling and forming new shapes. It's then that you realize that the Midway Princess wasn't wearing her Rig on her back.

The whole damn island was her Rig.

Two massive, biosteel rise up from behind Midway Princess, towering above her and all of you. They had to easily be at least five stories tall! More of the thick, black gop snakes around her body, flowing and shimmering with unnatural light.

"Hoel, I suggest you and your sisters fall back." Mulberry says calmly. "Midway Princess' power is beyond all of you."

"Yeah, well, who else is gonna fight her?" You retort.

"I will." Mulberry says simply, but dead seriously.

Mulberry then appears on the ridge, no longer dressed in her traditional Victorian clothes. Her outfit was now leaner, more form fitting. More practical for actual fighting. In her hands she holds a large and thin sword. Mulberry points the sword at the Midway Princess, an obvious challenge to her.

The Midway Princess trembles, not with fear, but with rage. The unnatural red light emanating from her body grows, and the black biosteel goop flowing around her body hardens into armor and a pair of ebony blades.

The Midway Princess' next move is so fast you don't even see it. One moment she's at the bottom of the ridge, and the next, she's right up at Mulberry, ready to strike. Mulberry, however, is prepared and parries the Midway Princess' attacks as their swordfight begins in earnest. The Marines can do nothing but watch, unable to fire without risking hitting Mulberry.

"Come on, we gotta help her!" You cry.

"Hoel, watch out'! Ontario grabs you by the collar and pulls you away right when one of the massive fists, from Miway Princess' remote arms slams down with a loud whump, the shockwave nearly knocking you off your feet.

"It looks like we'll have to deal with THOSE first." Ontario points to the two biosteel arms as they flexed menacingly, determined not to let anything get close to their master.

"Hoel! We're on the way!" Portland huffs. "We can see Mulberry engaging the Midway Princess! We'll be there soon!"

With that, one of the arms melts back into the ground and reforms on the opposite side of the ridge, no doubt to intercept Portland. Immediately, explosions rip across the length of it as it rises right in front of the massed armor formation in the rear. However, it looked to still have plenty of fight in it as the arm slams down on an unseen enemy. You hope that whatever it was aiming at got clear.

"Hey! You!" You yell mentally. "Bitch face!"

Midway Princess pauses for a brief second, but that second proves critical as Mulberry finds a opening in her defenses and lunges, plunging her sword right into the Midway Princess' chest. The Midway Princess' eyes widen almost imperceptibly at the attack as black oilblood gushes from the wound. A swipe from one of her obsidian swords forces Mulberry to back off and the Midway Princess turns to glare at you. A THIRD arm protrudes from the black sand and hurtles towards you in conjunction with the first arm.

But they never reach you, as Johnston becomes a bulwark, using her heavy shield to block the momentum of one, while Heerman handles the other by punching the massive fist with her own augmented EXO arm, stopping it cold.

"Foolish child." The Midway Princess transmits to you. "You try to fight me in our domain? How arrogant."

"Seems to be working so far." You grin.

"H-Hoel, are you all right?" Ontario gasps as she kneels next to you.

"W-what's going on?!" Johnston asks, unable to turn to look.

"What's happening?" Heerman adds.

"Hoel, you're bleeding all over!" Ontario tries to shake you out of your trance. "Hoel, can you hear me?!"

Huh, so that's why your mouth was tasting all coppery now.

"Perhaps if you were beautiful like us, you could handle the strain." The Midway Princess' voice becomes louder, every syllable shaking you right down to the bone. "But now you've doomed yourself."

Mulberry, drawing a fresh sword, renews her attacks on the Midway Princess, who was now weakened from the wound and busy speaking to you. She was now noticeably on the defensive against Mulberry's attacks. Whatever you were doing, it was definitely having an effect on her.

If only you didn't feel like coughing out your own stomach.

You finally break the connection, and feel the cold being sucked out of your body once again and the warmth of the world floods back into you.

That also means you can actually feel the pain now as you fall to your knees, hacking out blood.

"Hoel, HOEL!" Ontario cries as she turns to the Marines. "Get a medic here!"

"What's wrong with Hoel?" Johnston says as she continues warding away the the arms.

"Is she okay?" Heerman says, unable to afford turning around as she uses her augmented arm to bat away incoming blows.

"I... I don't know, she just started bleeding everywhere!" Ontario says in a fit of panic, her endless concern for destroyers of all types obviously showing.

"I'm... I'm fine." You wheeze as you try to get back up to your feet. "Everybody still needs me-"

"F-fine." You cough as you stay put. Your faeries meanwhile are on full alert mode as they rush through the insides of your Rig, trying to repair all of the terrible internal damage that had been wrought on you. Frayed and shorted wiring had to be pulled out and replaced, leaking fuel and coolant lines patched and more.

Meanwhile, the sword fight between Mulberry and the Midway Princess continues with relentless abandon, swords clanging and clashing. However, thanks to that critical wound you helped Mulberry inflict, the Midway Princess was fighting a losing battle as her defensive moves became slower and more sluggish, her white skin marred with numerous cuts and stabs.

However, Mulberry did not get away unscathed either, He was dealing with dozens of cuts and stabs as well, her clothes frayed and torn. However, in terms of endurance, she finally prevails, as a cut to Midway Princess' thigh sends the Abyssals dropping to her knees.

With her final seconds, the Midway Princess seems to say something to Mulberry, who, with no words or fanfare, swipes her sword one last time. Midway Princess' head drops to the sand, separated from the rest of her body.

The massive biosteel arms freeze and then spasm uncontrollably. With their master slain, there was nothing keeping them cohesive any more, and the arms crumble and melt back into their constituent parts.

"Hey, the bastards are running!" Iowa cheers. "Come on girls, let's finish 'em off!"

"Air attack has ceased." Midway reports happily.

"Good job, everybody." The Admiral says proudly. You can hear cheering in the background, no doubt the bridge crew celebrating. "Midway is ours once again."

"YEAH!" The Marines cheer as they fire weapons in the air in celebration. Mulberry takes a great big sigh as she slowly drops down to her knees, utterly spent as her faeries rush an emergency infusion of nice hot tea to her.

"SWEET! We did it!" Johnston slaps you on the back.

"It's really over." Heerman grins.

"Heh, I knew we could do it." You chuckle weakly.

"So, Hoel." You feel Portland's hand fall on your shoulder. You raise your head to see the cruiser glaring down at you. "We have a LOT to talk about..."

I'm pretty sure chasing after the Abyssal version of an Iowa-class battleship with only destroyers, twice, counts as risky. And trying to fight the Midway Princess when she told us to leave it to Mulberry.

Though she's probably more concerned about the fact that Hoel just started bleeding from everywhere without being physically hit.
