Last Time on Mecha Mercs: The 3C have almost completely wiped out the NORD spear tip, an elite tank company was reduced to a single vehicle and the follow up unit of mechanized infantry is in shambles. But the day is not yet won. The 3C must hold fast and repel the enemy's tank reserves before they can truly consider their contract fulfilled.

((Declare your actions people. I will be processing turn 6 tomorrow at 8pm GMT.))

"Run can only be taken in the same turn as a move action. Move your mecha a number of hexes up to it's Mobility rating. Gain +2 DR."

So my understanding is a Run is action is that is a "double" move action with extra benefits. Those being the +DR and other gear/class modifiers that take place on the run action. I'm not sure where you got the run giving you a move of 8 from. Also I should have been more clear in my wording the first action should have been "Bail Out". I might be mistaken about the rules reading though.

>>>46642744
I think "straight line" means exactly that: you can draw a single straight line from starting point to ending point, passing through all hexes you walk through, without passing through terrain or intervening obstacles. So, this is a straight line: 1,1,1,6. But this isn't: 1,1,6,6

I think you might be mistaking me for someone who's in charge of anything. The QM around these parts is CognisCommand.
>>
>>46647082
Suppose I can talk a little about this.

So there's several ways to do it.
---

There's a hex template in the foldiers that work (Malek) linked those.

You can also do what I do for my games, which is download this hexagonal pattern package for photoshop, and simply use the "paintbucket" tool on an empty layer to hex pattern the entire thing, then resize to fit

http://www.shapes4free.com/vector-photoshop-patterns/hexagon-photoshop-patterns/

but that requires photoshop
--

It's my understanding that maptools ( rptools.net now ) has a hex grid function that allows you to simply overlay a hex grid on that map, then calculate movement as such. I've never used it.
--

Any polygonal tool can create a hex or a square with a simple click + pull, and then you simply copy paste 200 of those.

For GIMP there's this hexagonal grid auto-plugin, but I had some issues with gimp and fidelity.

http://registry.gimp.org/node/15852

I believe Cognis uses Adobe Illustrator for this mech game, then moves tokens around, so the pattern in the folder probably works best for that specific programme.

Cable Guy: “What can I say about Number Wang besides that he had interesting taste in call signs? He was only with us for a short time, too short by some people’s reckoning, but he was still our comrade. The battlefield is a harsh mistress and today we are reminded that the price of war is not just abstract, but personal. It’s not just measured in casualties and materials lost, but in the fragments of things that mean something to us, of people that mean something to us. Our job is not always glamourous, sometimes we agree to do ugly things for uglier reasons, but today we can take solace that we did something good, that Numberwang did something good.”

((Alright I am finally ready to bring this thread into the hanger phase.

A few changes for what I guess will be version 1.5 of the game:

-Drone nerf. Due to excessive drone use putting a strain on processing; the drone control action now only allows you to issue orders to one drone.
-Drone automatic behavior will be heavily simplified. In the absence of direct orders they will just hold position and overwatch a single action on the first target to come in range depending on their type.

Recon: Overwatch lock.
Combat/Bloodhound/Assault/Demolition: Overwatch attack with their main gun. (i.e. non-consumable weapon.)
ECCM: Overwatch hack.
Repair: Overwatch repair on the first friendly unit to move adjacent to it.

Revamping the stealth rules:
Cloaked units are too easy to spot unless I fade them out to ridiculous levels. I'm thinking of an alternate system where you simply can' see them unless they are very close or you use some kind of scanning action enabled by sensor equipment. Haven't decided on anything yet but we can discuss this further.

Mission structure. As it stands processing the turns is taking more time out of my day than I'd like. I'm thinking of taking a page out of Floors and running a series of smaller missions in succession, maybe split the players into groups of 5-10 and have multiple mission in each "campaign turn" before the next hanger phase? This approach might allow me to take on more players but will mean individuals will have to wait longer between games. Again this is something we can hash out.))

Cable Guy: "I'm sorry to report that after the last battle the technicians found some potentially dangerous discrepancies in the drone AI. They were becoming too adorable for their own good. We've had to scrub their memory and rebuild the system from scratch, unfortunately this means the functionality of the drones will be reduced somewhat, but it guarantees the problem won't happen again."

"I finally managed to find a supplier who's willing to sell us equipment from LHI and Apex, but we still need a license and it won't come cheap."
>>
>>46689902
>the drone control action now only allows you to issue orders to one drone
Yeowch. That's a hit and a half. Since the issue is purely one of strain on you (rather than game balance which is already covered by price and ease of getting them killed), perhaps a cap on number per player would work better?

>Revamping the stealth rules
Makes sense. As they currently are stealth systems simply don't function for NPCs.

>Mission structure
I like the sound of multiple missions simultaneously. Faster games less often would be a nice change of pace.

Ah yes Mr. Kerry, that sound like a reasonable approach. Luckily, all of my drones were wrecked in the battle.

Irving: "Well if it isn't my one time pursuers. Got some fresh gear for you that you won't find anywhere else, including a huge pile of dirt cheap missiles. What's the catch? Oh they didn't pass quality assurance at the factory so international regulations dictate that they be disposed of. The safety standards are way too strict in my opinion, these should work fine." I personally support this notion. It's not like you can reasonably afford and maintain more than 2 or 3 anyway.

I keep forgetting to change the phrasing on this. This isn't so much a repair and re-arm cost as it is an upkeep and maintenance cost. Right now it's 20% of your mech's total cost and you pay it regardless of how much damage you take or ammo you expend.

LHI, Apex, Advanced Warfare, or the Pioneer upgrades, hmm?
Well, in light of our next mission, I think we can wait on the pioneer. Don't really want to take it with us to assault a GuyeCo facility, do we?
As far as the other three options go, the safe bet would be Advanced Warfare, it benefits pretty much everyone. LHI would improve our defensive capabilities, and Apex would give us more offensive options.
>>
I vote for advanced warfare training.
>>
Given our spread of elity-ness and fighty-ness, I am also personally in favor of Advanced Warfare training.

I would very much want an Apex Mech - but as far as it goes, I think a general "benefits everyone" approach will give us the little edge we need against any target; which will turn further equipment into a strict bonus.

So get to it.

NORD and the surrounding nations are about to be in absolutely no position to do shit against it. Then we just build momentum.

We use the mechs as a basis for it... construction mechs and shit aren't all that uncommon in places like that... with the right work, we could make them work as militia as well... not great as combat mechs but better than tanks... then we focus everything into building infrastructure to self sustain..."

Goose, I know the Chief is a great instructor, but the system setups for those two combat doctrines are quite incompatible.

They weren't compatible.

Irving: " I only show what I think my customers will be interested in. Are you telling me you'd be interested in something like deadly neuro toxin? Or maybe a Win button? You're right about certain things needing a build up of trust, but we could skip all that if you go out on date with me."
>>
(Kestrel bursts in, with widened eyes)
"Guys, guys, hold on, what's this? We're just a single merc company. Sure, we turned the tide of multiple fights, but doing political BS would bring about a lot of messy business. You guys aren't serious, right? Can't we... keep it simple?"

"Have to agree with the kid here hoss. We're mercenaries, and damn good mercenaries, but do any of us know a thing about running a country?"

"Best that we leave the politicking to the big boys with big armies and big guns on their side."

"What this chuck guy said. I think I hust heard that dipping into the local region will bring about a lot of messy business, so why don't we let the big guys take care of it first? If some kind of order is restored to this place, then we could do talking and bonding, but this place is like an active warzone right now. Oh wait, pardon me, it IS an active warzone. I mean, we even got too much on our plate right now. We can bately process one requests at a time while we get thrown two, abd then there's also that irving guy thingy that leads down to country-size black ops.
Long story short, currently things are too messy, and when things are messy something tends to go wrong. So let's sort out things first. Not like I'm opposed to peace.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves. There's going to be a lot of shit we'll have to slog through to even get to the points you two are talking about. I can't agree with stoking that kind of fire and walking away either. Especially on our own initiative. This isn't some kind of fucking game here," Tragedy paused and gave a curious look to one side before catching herself and continuing.

"I spent two fucking years as a civilian caught in one of Zanvara's flashpoints before going back to try and sort that shitshow out on a more professional level. You would fucking not believe the kind of goddamned mire that place turned into." Realizing that she had stood up at some point, Tragedy dropped her hands, pointing finger and all and sat down. She sat there quietly listening to the others while sipping her beer.

Rewinds to another time and place:
Tragedy looked around the suddenly silent room after giving Irving a look of surprised. The others were no help.
"To be honest, I'd be interested in a deadly neuro toxin mostly for reasons other than purchasing it. I would also be lying if I said I wouldn't keep something like that for really special occasions.

"As for the date thing.. I'm flattered but I don't mix business with pleasure. I'm sure you understand," she smirked. "We can work on the trust thing, though."

Cable Guy: “I’m preparing the next round of job offers for your consideration, but first I think you need to see this:”

News Report

Earlier today the People’s Republic of Zanvra formally withdrew from the assembly of nations after condemning the IF lead war in the desert. The PRZ government expressed solidarity with the Desert Alliance and pledged both economic and military support. The Security Council responded by declaring war on Zanvra.

>Video Feed
IF Spokesman: “What Zanvra is doing is nothing less than an act of war. They have turned their backs on the IF and pledged MILITARY support to our enemies. You know what that makes them? That makes them our enemies too. They’re going to try and paint us as the aggressors because we officially declared war first but the fact is they have declared war through their actions and there will be consequences for those actions.”

In other news reports are coming in of Neromian troops bolstering the forces of the Desert Alliance. The Neromian Council has been extremely evasive on the topic.

>Video Feed
Council Spokesperson: “Look Neromius is a very loose federation of tribes and city states. The Council doesn’t micro manage all these entities. If a handful of them have decided to go to war you need to go take it up with them.”

Cable Guy: “You know what? Maybe smacking heads in the Midas Range might not be so bad after all.”

"...wow... That's just... wow."
Malek puts down his beer, an almost unprecedented action.

"I admit, I've never thought much of the IF. But I always figured that they were solid on one thing: NO world-scale conflict. It's not fun, it's not good for business, and nukes make it all a crap shoot. If they've turned away from that idea... then they're just another version of the problem they set out to solve."
Malek throws up his hands in disgust.
>>
>>46708697
"Now, look, the IF isn't all roses and shit, but they're right. What'cha supposed to call Zanvra? They're backing the fucks who tried to invade our clients, they're not just giving economic support, they're pulling free from the IF entirely. That means they can start making their own ICBMs and Nukes, that means they can begin invading all of the other nations around them, and probably will. The IF isn't the one starting this conflict, they're planning to end it as quickly as possible. If the IF disappears you think the other major powers are gonna keep the peace? You think NORD would have just, not invaded this place if the IF hadn't existed?"

"What else are they supposed to do? Should they just wring their hands, go 'oh how horrible!' and declare economic sanctions on one of the few powers in the world that could effectively shut it's boarders and keep functioning? Zanvra has the resource and industrial base to be entirely isolationist if they want and STILL function as a world power, STILL power a large war machine capable of taking on all of their neighbors combined without the IF."

He is getting angry now, "I hate fucks like them. They think that they're some how entitled to this shit, when the creation of the IF is probably what let them survive. You think Zanvra would have lasted a decade if the IF hadn't put the lock down on nukes? Neromius and Wesen Nevik and Surden Nevik would have been on them like flies on crap, as bad as the Midas Range."

He shrugs, "Let's contact our bosses, advise that we stick away from that, offer our services to the IF if they need us to deal with any... problems... like the Cognis presented so they can keep their operation moving smoothly, and use that leverage to begin peace making in the Midas Region when everyone else is too tired from the fighting, see if the IF will give us a cushy paid contract to do it even."

He grins, "Now I know some of you guys don't like the IF, but they don't tell nations how to run themselves. They don't care about the laws they pass as long as they aren't crimes against humanity, they don't pass judgement on nations with shit living standards, look at Merika and Norden Nevik for the lowest classes. The only rule is they have to be a representative republic or democracy. They organize international conflict and trade and NOTHING else pretty much. They're the referee. We might not like all the calls they make on the big political game of the plane, but it's better than not having one at all."

He takes a long drink from his beer, "And what just happened is the Zanvran's got red carded."

The game moves pretty slowly, we won't be starting a mission any time soon and even if we did you can deploy mid mission with around 24 hours between turns, so you got plenty of time.

Speaking of time. I need more of it to prepare the mission options but I need to head to work now. Will post when I get back. Sorry.
