Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you flew back to Nazir, and boy are your arms tired.

It is currently the 30th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

Mahana must be hard pressed if the best he can manage is a stalemate, you don't doubt that involving yourself carries an inherent degree of risk. However, the rewards could be great indeed. The agreement you worked out with Mahana upon his initial conquest of Anthus means that unless you can successfully launch a counterattack on the Water spirit's realm, you are not guaranteed an artifact. However, you're sure that Mahana would be more than willing to compensate you for your assistance in any number of ways.

Actually, come to think of it, you suppose launching an invasion of the water spirit's realm would be enough to earn you an artifact. You wouldn't need to participate nor would the invasion need to be a success for you to satisfy the terms of your agreement. Perhaps, if the opportunity presented itself, you could slip into the rival spirit's realm and help Mahana launch an invasion of his own, to turn the tables so to speak. It would even make sense on a purely tactical level, so hopefully would not seem self-serving.

“I might offer my assistance repelling this invader, if Mahana would have it.” You announce, after brief deliberation. “Though I am less eager to bring my son along. No doubt his help would prove invaluable, but I fear for his safety in a realm torn by war.”

The human woman, you should probably get her name at some point, eyes Zahak warily. “I have spent much of the last week locked in combat against the dragons plaguing Anthus, I know exactly how useful it would be to have one of them on our side. No doubt my patron would generously reward you both if you were to help us.”

(1/3)
>>
You're about to respond, but the stirring of Zahak's thoughts interrupt your own. There is a vague sense of triumph tempered by confusion and weariness. You think he was probably successful but get the impression he had a difficult time of it. What memory could your son have rediscovered? He's only been alive a short while, you can't imagine he's accumulated very many.

Mahana's disciple flinches when Zahak opens his mouth in a wide yawn, displaying a row of sharp, dagger-like teeth. He certainly does have a lot of them, though you note a few are missing. You suppose dragons lose their milk teeth just as samjan do. It's a shame you didn't notice them fall out, normally when a child loses a tooth their mother collects it, keeping it wrapped in a silk cloth with any other teeth the child loses.

Once they've all fallen out, a child's milk teeth are offered to Pani in a somewhat lengthy ritual which involves the treatment of the teeth in an alchemical concoction called the Tears of Pani. If you recall correctly from your reading, its manufacture involves heating niter and clay in a calcinator and collecting the smoke that boils off. Once the gas cools it will gather as a yellow liquid, at which point alum should be added and allowed to dissolve. The resulting substance will be red or yellow and will spit poisonous fumes. It's dangerous to be sure, but powerful enough to dissolve gold. Thus it has its uses, especially in religious ritual.

The belief is that dissolving the teeth in the Tears of Pani and then breathing in the fumes after the teeth have completely dissolved will ensure new teeth grow in straight, and will guarantee a long and healthy life. You doubt there's any real substance to this ritual, but you can't deny your people have exceptionally good oral hygiene. All of your teeth certainly grew in straight. More than that, it would offer you a chance to introduce Zahak to your people's religious practice.

Your son's voice distracts you from the tangent your thoughts had run off on. {Papa, I saw you in a dream! I think you were meditating with me, but I don't think I'd hatched yet. You felt different in the dream, I don't even think I knew you were my Papa at the time.}

Interesting, so Zahak retains recollections of a time before he hatched. {Those weren't dreams, Zahak. They were memories. The method we were practicing is intended to help you manipulate the shard of the divine which gives you, and all of us, a life worth living. I have only begun my first foray into the art myself, but I hope one day it will allow you to reshape your body as you please.}

{Why would I want to do that?} Your son ask, his confusion seeping into your own thoughts. You get the sense that he's genuinely never considered the idea.

>You can talk about this later, ask him whether or not he wants to join you in Mahana's realm. It should be his decision.
>Tell Zahak to prepare himself, because the two of you are about to fight a war. It will be a good experience for him.
>Zahak shouldn't involve himself in something this dangerous. Have him fly back to Nazir and tell the others what you're up to.

inform him of the deal we have with mahana. We could see about getting something to increase our son and our own war potential. Say a necklace for our dragon so he could store vys and use it when ever he wants.
Helping him cast shit later on. providing the vys to pour into his shield. a multitude of shit. So he can be better defended and attack more.

Zahak is still a child, he will inevitable decide to come with us, regardless of the level of danger. Gauging whether he is ready for this conflict is our job as a semi-responsible parent.

This might be the internal pokemans logic talking, but I don't like the thought of bringing a firebreathing dragon into an invasion against a Water spirit. It seems unwise.

Because I imagine it'd be pretty fucking distracting to just show up and start ripping the local equivalent of reality to shreds.

Alright lads, let's set up for this fight. First thing we ought to do is use our new Shaping techniques to recall exactly how we called up golden spiritual fire at the Library. If we can channel that in our trusty hand cannon, we'll be able to grievously wound the water spirit.

We should also deploy the Meseeks with the following, specific commands to bolster Mahana's defenses with the least collateral or unintended effects possible.

>create 2000 clones here
>if for some reason the number of meseeks here decreases, replenish it to 2000
>if you leave this realm, self destruct
>if someone exits through the portals, destroy it
>if you leave this area, self destruct after T time
>>

Nah our Soulfire would be infinitely more effective on this cunt than regular fire through the handgun.

Like that shit burned Void entities, which normal fire is more likely to heal than hurt. And we disintegrated them with it.

>>46796904
Yes, yes we are.
>>
>>46796895
>>46796956

This spirit is a lot more powerful than the Larva we fought in the tunnels. Furthermore, the pistol was only diminishing the spirit's substance and the destroying it's hosts. Remember how Ricky was completely immune to Surya's vice? Spirits and Entities are resistance to magic, but weak to physical attack. However, the spiritual fire we used in the library seems to cut through that immunity.

It's not soulfire you fucking retards. Its us burning the strings or whatever enchantment that created them. It's not tied to Fire.
>>
>>46797026
Mik visualizes it as fire anon, we're not gonna stop calling it fire
>>
>>46797057
So what do you call it when we erode the strings?
>>
>>46797026
It was literally described as Mik "unleashing a blast of fire from his soul and burning the void beings to ash"

That ain't "burning the strings"

I imagine it has something to do with the golden cracks that are now in our divine shard. Possibly casting directly with our divine essence.
>>
>>46797026
>fucking with strings of reality
>in a spirit's own realm

Eroding the strings
>>
>>46797120
Throwing divine essence at a spirit probably wont go well you know
>>
>>46797026
That's your theory. We won't be able to find out until we actually use our Shaping.

>>46796993
Dude. This argument has played out before.

>>41142385
Anyway, I have a vague idea that you're arguing about whether or not the Varistha was one of the foremost expert on spirits and whether or not you can trust what he says. I'll put some of that to bed, since it seems like things are getting pretty vehement.

The Varistha was not one of the foremost experts, he was the foremost expert on spirits. He knew more than just about any other man or woman of any race in all the world. The only things more knowledgeable regarding spirits ARE spirits. Not to say he was right about everything, in fact I attempt to point out whenever Mik questions something in the Varistha's notes, but he's a pretty good source regarding spirits.

So that makes this:

>>36341504
Nature of Spirits and Entities: Spirits, the Varistha believes, are merely void entities which have escaped that horrid realm and adapted to live in ours. That's why older spirits are so similar to creatures from the void, according to the Varistha.

Super duper valid. What'll hurt a void entity will hurt a spirit.
>>
>>46797126
>The fire that springs forth from your soul is strange indeed. As it catches upon the creature's fur it begins to burn through what appears to be their flesh itself, eating great chunks into their snouts but creating neither flame nor smoke. The creatures' screeching fills your thoughts, nearly forcing you from your trance so violent is their intrusion, but through force of will alone you manage to maintain your meditative calm.
That ain't erroding the strings.

>>46797152
Casting with divine essence is different than "throwing it at them" Or else it wouldn't have even affected the void beings, as their very touch is poisonous to Spirits, who are made of DE.
>>
>>46797188
>didnt read that anon wasnt even talking about burning void being and literally talking about eroding strings
>being a retard and assuming a spirit strong enough to bully mahannas shit in wont fucking eat our spell
>>
>>46797174
>lots of stuff
Pretty sure Soma also said that they were intrinsically different as the spirits warped and changed when they came into reality.

Also >>46797125
>>
The Void entities you people are thinking of are the bottom bitches of the Void's hierarchy.
>>
>>46797232
>eat our spell
Yeah you're a fucking idiot.

Can we "eat" the spell of an apprentice mage? No we can't. Just because we're stronger than them doesn't mean we absorb their magic as they cast it.

And we're aren't "throwing DE at them" like you seem to think.
>>
>>46797232
With that logic, we shouldn't use magic at all. Furthermore, remember the Spirits we fought when putting on the Crown? Nothing we did slowed them down, until we started burning them with golden fire that sounds exactly like that we employed in the library.

>>46797267
Intrinsically different in terms of mindset. They have the same physical and magical weaknesses as well as strengths.
>>
>>46797274
Yea but it one shot them no problem when it should have had literally no affect.

Means that it should do some meaningful damage, especially to a Water Spirit who is probably immune to most Fire magic. This Soulfire should be quite effective on him.

Though whether we can harness it by then is the question.
>>
>>46797290
Prove it, faggot.
>>
>>46797281
Anon you actual gibbering fucktard spirits dont work by conventional means, they give zero shits about how they shouldnt be able to rip the vys out of a spell as its being cast(ps we could totally do that with practice)
>>46797290
Literally all we did was cut the strings that tied them to the crown so they couldnt mind fuck us anymore you idiot
>>
>>46797334
You're really stupid aren't you? We actively manipulated our Divine Essence into beating his bitch ass like he stole something.

>>42120211
Until you reach the core, the rocky shell that surrounds the very essence of your soul. The shard of divinity that mortals stole from the Gods themselves. You throw the very last of your reserves into reinforcing this essence. The holes in the stone shell which surround the shard of divinity that makes up the core of who and what you are begin to close, the dull black of the stone turning slowly to a vibrant gold. The spirit thrashes uselessly at this kernel of resistance, this last bastion of control which you exert over your own body.

Wherever the vile creature touches, it is destroyed. Great holes are rent in its flesh, its own divine essence spilling out, cutting holes through your flesh to escape. Defeated, the spirit retreats through the connection created by the crown. With one final effort, the last link is severed.
>>
Amazing...BQ running today and I actually got in here before anything crazy assed hit the fan.

I wonder how the meeseeks would compare with the lesser golems we used in our first spiritual invasion.

There must be some limit on just spamming them, if they can even exist in the spirit world for that matter.

I just gave you a direct quote about using metal and earth casting on our Divine core, and how it destroyed an Ancient elder spirit who once controlled the Elven empire. We literally, LITERALLY got a rank up in Earth and Metal magic afterwards.

If you are too fundamentally ill-developed intellectually to understand, than I pity you anon, I really do.

is what literally happened you fucking beta cuck dont you fucking pretend we actively attacked it when you literally quoted the exact words that show us cowering in fear of having our soul ripped apart
>>
>>46797531
We reinforced our defenses to the point where destroyed itself attacking us. It's a perfectly reasonable method of driving off a spirit. Also gives valuable insight into the weaknesses of spirits.

just because we did not intend to do it at the time doesn't mean we should ignore the information and ability we've gained from it. That information leading to this new SoulFire thingy. Which seems to have a similarly destructive affect on Spirits.

Chill m8 we're learning from our past emergencies.
>>

We're using the term non-absolutely. It hurt itself. It destroyed parts of itself. Point is, the quote is right there, we get it, it only vaporized vast chunks of its being fruitlessly smacking our metal magic reinforced divine core.
>>
>>46797643
We destroyed large portions of it
>Wherever the vile creature touches, it is destroyed. Great holes are rent in its flesh, its own divine essence spilling out, cutting holes through your flesh to escape.

Pleased as you are that Zahak is comfortable with himself, even though he spends the majority of his time surrounded by your own people and the lesser races of sentients, there are more pressing matters to attend to. {We can discuss the utility of altering your form after we've returned to Nazir, but I'm afraid there's going to be something of a delay.}

{This woman-} You gesture to Mahana's disciple, much to the poor woman's confusion. She has no idea that there's a conversation going on. {-has told me that an associate of ours is in danger. You remember Mahana, don't you? The cat spirit which shares our estate. He has come under attack from a rival spirit, and is struggling to maintain control of his realm. I'll be lending him my strength, and I would allow you to join me if you wished.}

Zahak doesn't even need to think about his answer. {Okay! Mahana is nice and I like burning things. How do we get there? Is it far away?}

That's actually a hard question to answer. Is Mahana's realm far away? Does the word 'far' even have meaning to a spirit? {This woman will pull us into Mahana's realm, it shouldn't take more than a few seconds. As to where it is, I don't think I could give an honest answer. I lack a proper understanding of spiritual realms and how they work. Now, are you sure you want to accompany me? This will be dangerous to the extreme, and I would not think any less of you if instead you returned to Nazir ahead of me.}

{I'm sure!} Your son proclaims proudly. {I'll be with Papa! Besides it will be fun to fight a spirit, I've never fought a spirit before.}

Zahak's presence in your thoughts recedes as the conversation draws to a close, and you turn your attention to Mahana's disciple. “What's your name? I'm tired of referring to you as simply 'human'. That will inevitably grow confusing.”

She draws herself upright, clearing her throat. “Clarisse Martine de Sauveterre, daughter of the duc de Ligre and-”

“I didn't ask for your life story, woman.” You cut her off harshly, already growing tired of her prattle. “Clarisse will suffice. Gods above, but your accent is grating.” At your mental urging, Zahak stretches out his wing and you grab hold of sharp claw. “Just drag us into Mahana's realm, already.”

She's trying to conceal her distaste for you and failing utterly. Perhaps you shouldn't be so cruel to one of Mahana's disciples, but it's awfully amusing. Clarisse offers you her hand and the very moment you take it in your own the world tears itself apart at the seams. You're overwhelmed by a sense of vertigo as color and sound blend together, pulling you through an endless tunnel of light towards some distant, unreachable goal.

It only last a moment, but it feels like you spent hours in that awful vortex. You find yourself standing in a marble hallway flanked on either side by Zahak and a woman clad in golden armor, a fringe of crystallized vys gathered about her neck. You realize you recognize the figure from your previous encounter with Mahana's disciples deep within the Pa'vala. Odd, you had expected the woman to be the depressed looking figure in the black armor.

Ahead of you are a pair of great wooden doors, and above them Mahana's own face rendered as a relief in gold. You must admit, the detail is truly exquisite. For a realm under siege the entry to the throne room certainly seems unchanged, but you suppose this area of Mahana's realm isn't yet threatened.

A creature smashes through the window on your left, its right arm composed of one enormous claw while the left wields a trident. It's clad in a thick blue shell and skitters across the floor on six spike-tipped legs. For all the world it appears to be a giant crab its body altered to resemble that of a man. Zahak reacts faster than you do, opening his jaws wide and spitting a jet of white flame so hot that the marble pillars crack under the onslaught.

When his jaw snaps closed, there's little remaining of the creature's upper body. It falls backwards, out the window and into the mist which seems to fill the world beyond. Stepping forward, you peer over the ledge to try and discern just where the crab came from. Rising from the mist you see a creature of truly immense size. Sixty feet tall at the least, and standing in the middle of a vast portal. Tentacles drape from its mouth like some perverse beard, and it glares at the wounded form of Mahana through seven malevolent eyes.

The Cat has suffered a gash across its right side which leaks his spiritual essence into the world around him, but it's slowly closing itself. You also spot the boar spirit locked in contest with what appears to be a giant transparent lobster, more of those crustaceous minions swarming at his feet. Mahana's own minions seem to slip through their ranks, blasting them with fire and nipping at their heels. You also note a few strange creatures you don't recognize flying above the melee. They're bipedal and vaguely feminine, but constructed of rock and fire rather than flesh and bone.

If we're able to actually successfully learn Soulfire it would be highly advantageous to enter into a battle trance with Zahak using our telepathic bond, as we did when fighting the Pidjatan lions. Well, the situation is worse than you were expecting. Not much worse mind you, but enough that you're forced to alter the vague plans you'd been considering previously. For this you'll probably want to risk the negative side effects of wearing the heavier set of Warlock Armor, if only because you're curious to see what it's like using the Sight inside a spirit's realm. You almost urge Ricky to help you remove your armor, but then you remember where you are. It's probably not wise to have a void entity taint Mahana's realm when your feline benefactor is already so hard pressed to hold off the water spirit's assault.

Instead you set about removing your armor the old fashioned way. You barely notice the spike sliding out of your neck, and once you've got the helmet off the rest of your armor follows in short order. Mahana's disciple watches on passively behind her golden mask, weight leaned against her halberd.

You must admit some minor annoyance, and once you've finished pulling off the last of the Warlock Armor and stowing it away inside your cloak you turn to Clarisse. “You could make yourself useful instead of standing there watching me. I've preparations to make before I join the fight, but you suffer no such inconvenience. On with you, I trust you can allot your skills where they're most needed.”

She merely shrugs her shoulders, and without a word walks up to the edge of the platform you seem to be standing on. Great golden wings weave themselves from light behind her back, folding backwards as she steps over the edge. You watch briefly as she plummets towards the battle raging below. She seems to be gathering around her a corona of fire which grows brighter the closer she gets to the ground. When finally the wings snap out to slow her fall, the aura of flame continues its descent. In an instant an entire formation of the rival spirit's minions are reduced to ash or blackened carapace, and she lands gracefully in the center of the devastation.

>And this SoulFire could be a way to get around the "hotheadded" trait that might come with a normal Fire GM meditation

Evidently, she focused most of her efforts on improving Fire magic rather than the more useful schools of Water, Nature, and Metal. Much as you might disagree with that decision, you must admit to being impressed by the theatrics of it all.

You'll need to endeavor to make a similarly impressive entrance, so reaching into your cloak you begin to draw out the various pieces of your heavy warlock armor. Zahak stands watch while you struggle into the cumbersome suit, but none of the invader's other subordinates interrupt your preparations. You breathe a sigh of relief when finally you slip the helmet over your head, a sigh that dies in your throat when a half dozen spikes of carapace drive their way into your spine.

The pain is shortly drowned out by a veritable flood of vys, forgotten in favor of a drive to conquer. A filter descends over your vision, the world suddenly a ghastly reflection of the real. Spirits are everywhere, little more than motes of light drifting through Mahana's realm. They leave behind thin trails of gold or silver, and below you the battle stretches out as though some enormous mass of vys. It's like staring into a cloud of blue and red, you can barely make out any detail at all. Admittedly it's useful for determining the overall state of the battle, but this would grow immensely confusing in close quarters.

Thus, you suppress the Sight and the indistinguishable mass fades. It's still there, lurking just behind your eyelids. However, it's not particularly distracting. You feel as though possessed by a giddy sort of excitement, your every muscle screaming with a desire for violence. Forcing yourself to relax, you turn your thoughts to the last few times you fought against Immortals.

Still writing, but I figured I'd push this out.

Plasma is not a solid, making a ball of it around us doesn't mean that we can use it to travel, I don't have any immediate familiarity with actual temperatures of plasma but I'm comfortable saying that it's hot enough to cause us problems if it comes into contact with us.
We don't have a way of actually producing plasma yet, we have methods that Soma has said will work but we haven't actually used them, so we don't know how expensive they will be to use.
We have no method of propulsion in space, all of the methods of flight that we've seen are most likely based on air manipulation, whether you're looking at how dragons fly or the adventurer dude's boots.
Further, assuming that space in Banished is anything like actual space there is going to be a lot of distance to cover before we can reach even the nearest planetoid, and there isn't going to be anything to breather, we could theoretically use water magic to heal the damage that oxygen deprivation would cause us or use enchanting to make some kind of space suit but there still isn't a single good reason to actually do any of it.

If you're so dead set on making an orb of plasma try pitching it as an energy shield or some bullshit, not fucking space travel.

I think most people jizz themselves over glaives/halberds because of a simple efficiency fetish, allowing them to stab things or chop things, or the added advantage of a hook to catch weapons on, but it seems fairly over rated. A short sword is the most optimal weapon, paired with a large shield which can easily be ditched.

Alright, this is how it be.

You're up against a motherfucker sword 'n boarding like it's knightly, he's pretenden he tight.
FUCKING WRONG.
Hook that dumbass shield and put him off balance, its time to slice a bitch. Oh wait his shield wasn't properly strapped onto his arm and he was just holding it with his hand? Enjoy your broken wrist and lack of shield motherfucker.

You want a weapon for mounted combat? This is what you need. A lance? The fuck is that good for? A hook halberd with bud fulcrum won't get stuck in an enemy and can slice to boot.

BUT NO there's this other shitheel with a horse and you've lost your mount, now he's charging you, but your righteous-ass Halberd has a spear tip because that's how it do. Brace it into the ground and if he's stupid enough to continue it's shishkebob knight night. But, huh, it's a smart ass that wants to swerve at the last second.

FUCKING BITCH YOUR HALBERD HAS AN AXE.
It doesn't matter if he tries to take you from the side because you've already got him fucked. Aim for him? Don't need to, aim for the mount, it's just as good. He puts a shield up? Either hook-grapple him until he eats shit or hit his shield.

Wait, did you read the right? Just hit his shield?
MOTHERFUCKER YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.
IT'S A BITCHING-ASS HALBERD.
You don't need a clean hit to set a bitch off kilter.

But, oh no, you're in a cave. A small alley. A tight crevice. A sheer cliff.
You're at a disadvantage, right?
FUCKING WRONG.
Thrust your spear-axe tool up-to-down and down-to-up right in the faces of any dumbass that thinks a polearm has a disadvantage is tight quarters. This is the shit that city guards dream about while banging their ugly as sin fishwives.

Flying enemy? Same shit different day.

Acting on vague instinct alone, you try to draw your vys inwards. The world fades, and with a tweak of your will you are no longer standing upon a precipice. Instead you are on fire, your skin peeling away in long strips as your mortal form rebels against the vys flooding into it from the crown. It is interesting to experience it not in the moment, but as a detached observer. The pain is still there but it is muted by time and distance.

Your body is ravaged by the power coursing through it, but then with a soft pop you are transported elsewhere. Into the realm of another spirit, though you don't think you realized it at the time. You float for a time in a pool of water, but when you will it to be so the world shifts to accommodate you. Instead, you stand between two great spirits of no doubt inconceivable power.

You attempt to swim to the surface of the pool, but rather than propel yourself towards the surface you merely appear there. The pool in which you languished is gone, and your surroundings changed. To your left a figure hovers above a vast field of ever-changing stone spires. One spire will collapse only for another to rise moments later in its place. The figure itself appears wounded, its body missing from the chest down and strips of red viscera floating uselessly where its abdomen ought to be. Two great wings of bone protrude from where its ears ought to be, and with its four disembodied hands it grasp a massive sword.

The figure on your right is by comparison a comforting sight. Hovering above an endless field of wheat is a woman with four arms, who clutches a gigantic lump of stone to her breast. She is dressed conservatively, in a long dress and a shawl which seems woven from the clouds. Her face is partially obscured behind a sheer veil, but you can see her sightless white eyes nonetheless. Smoke billows off of her in waves, and three glowing triangles seem to orbit around her head.

The woman responds, her words understandable even though she says nothing. Her voice is like wind across a grassy plain “This one does not truly understand the gravity of what he has done.”

A massive crash seems to shake the world as several of the pillars which dot the sword-wielding spirit's realm collapse. The spirit's voice somehow manages to rise above the thunder of falling rocks. “We will use him anyway. His mistake is not our concern.”

A pressure builds behind your eyes. Just as it reaches the limits of what you're able to bear, they open and you're once again sitting in your bedroom within your estate in El-Amin. The pain is gone, but there is a distinct feeling of detachment. Your consciousness, trapped as it is within its own body, is panicking. You don't seem to share its distress, but it is odd to feel your body stand without any conscious effort on your part.

You inspect your hands, or rather the spirits controlling your body inspect your hands. The tattoos on your forearms writhe violently against your skin, as though struggling to free themselves, but don't seem to actually have any effect on the spirit's ability to control you. For only a moment later they shove forward your right hand and fire spews from your palm. It flows across the floor, eating away hungrily at the rug and the books on their shelves.

Satisfied with your power, the spirits pilot your body to the door. On the other side Mahana waits for you, his tail flicking back and forth irritably. {Mik, what did I say about putting on the crown?}

Your consciousness struggles to respond, but Mahana is unaware. Instead two voices respond in concert, the effect unsettling. {The former inhabitant of his vessel has capitulated. It is now we who are in control.}

Your consciousness channels vys, trying to determine the nature of its imprisonment. The two spirits have latched onto your soul like some manner of parasite, drawing forth from it the essence of divinity which allows you to affect the world around you. Your consciousness draws forth its vys, which curiously remains within its ability to control, and with your will alone a chunk is carved away from the husk of your soul.

For the first time you notice something odd. As the husk degrades, those portions of the spirit's essence which had attached to that section of your soul are destroyed in a manner not dissimilar to the flesh of those void creatures who suffered under the onslaught of that strange fire you channeled after tearing a hole in the veil between worlds. Great holes simply appear in its essence, slowly expanding until the spirit eventually just cuts away that section of its essence.

They begin to attack your soul aggressively, drinking greedily of your memories as they seek to replenish the wounds you dealt them. Your consciousness is occupied severing the connections which bind the spirit to the crown. Two of them were already essentially disconnected, but third offers a challenge and the fourth proves initially impossible to manipulate. With each severed strand of gold the spirits redouble their efforts to drive you into submission, but they meet with little success. They likely hadn't realized that eroding your soul, by this point, had become fairly normal for you. It was a meditation you'd already performed purely out of curiosity.

In fact, eroding away the husk of your soul seems to be your primary method of combating the spirit's advance. You hadn't realized how effective it was at the time either, for with each chunk of husk freed from the main body of your soul you inflict another wound upon the spirits. You're rapidly losing vys, but manage to erode your soul down to the black shell which binds the divine shard to your mortal frame.

You reinforce the shell, acting on instinct alone, and slowly the holes dotting its surface begin to close. The dull black shifts, becoming a brilliant gleaming gold, and a realization strikes you. As your consciousness channels the last of its vys, the metallic surface of your soul's shell begins to carve deep gouging wounds into the spirit which clings to it. You're not actually casting anything. Rather, the reinforced husk of your soul seems to allow you to direct the energy being given off by your divine shard.

You awaken with a start, unsure of how much time has passed. You're still standing at the edge of the broken window, looking down upon the battle below. The tide of the melee seems to have turned in favor of Mahana's forces, in large part due to the assistance of Clarisse. She manages to turn half a dozen of those crab creatures to dust with a gesture, perhaps a feat of Earth magic? Regardless, the battle overall remains firmly in the invader's favor. The boar has lost one of its legs, presumably to the lobster spirit's pinchers, and Mahana is on the run. He's leaping across the battlefield trying to avoid the great spears of black ice being hurled by the water spirit. Each one must be nearly a hundred feet long, and the creature forms them in an instant with barely any effort on its part.

Reaching into your cloak, you extract the sphere of dark wood you bought not so long ago from Sadik. You'd been thinking that perhaps you might employ the shadow creatures it produces as an army of sorts, comparable to the two spirits' own minions. However, you're not sure what instructions you ought to give them. You could probably just summon one and instruct it to use the artifact to summon more, but then how would you pass along instructions to those that the first shadow summoned? Can they communicate with one another? You would assume so, since they seem capable of planning, but you're not certain.

>Use the artifact. (Write-in instructions)

Remembering things with the Shaping Arts isn't exactly like just remembering things. It's like reliving them in the moment, you go through each event as a passive observer and are afforded the opportunity to pick on things you'd previously missed. I chose the crown example largely out of personal preference.

I know Soma frowns on this sometimes but just posting this here to give some insight on the shit we just meditated on.

[18:46] <Adalwulf>So what you're saying is we reduce ourself to our base being and then slam our soul into spirits?
[18:47] <~Soma_QM> Sort of, if you could find a way to reinforce the shell without reducing your soul, that would work too.
[18:47] <~Soma_QM> Basically reinforcing the shell allows a mortal to act a lot more like a spirit than usual.
[18:47] <~Soma_QM> For a limited time, of course.
[18:47] <iou3desktop> So weee give them our spiritual dick?
[18:48] <~Soma_QM> I won't elucidate on the actual mechanics of it, but suffice to say it's very unpleasant.
[18:48] <~Soma_QM> For spirits.
[18:49] <Ishiggy> So i assume what we did to the void beings is exactly that?
[18:49] <Ishiggy> Unleashing our Inner dinive Shard without reducing our soul?
[18:49] <~Soma_QM> Sort of, the void beings was what I described when Mik cut away pieces of the husk.
[18:49] <~Soma_QM> That was a more targeted form of the same phenomena.

This mans vote has as much weight as yours. Now you see the reason why we can't have nice things.
>>
>>46803740
Hold a vote on that boss. Some of us want to swarm the water spirit's summons by leading a horde at them. Some of us would like to employ spiritual fire against the Water spirit either with the hand cannon or with Zahak.
>>
>>46803740
Would this count as a metal or fire meditation?
>>
>>46803783
I support siccing the Meseek horde on them while we attempt to unleash SoulFire on them.

If we fail (which we might, I imagine it's a pretty hefty DC) then we engage ourself. We can still fight normally after all.
>>
>>46803775
Just focus upon the shell and reinforce it.
>>
>>46803775
I really dislike the fact Soma keeps spoiling shit on IRC.
>>
>>46803775
So what exactly are we supposed to do?
>>
>>46803862
Of course.

Just gonna have to tunnel a hole through our outer soul so that we can unleash it and aim it.
>>
>>46803828
We have done so before. We even got direct tutelage from the Pranathma of it.

>>44223320
When you receive no answer, you assume that's an agreement. “By my understanding, vys is not truly magic. Rather, vys is simply the result of the 'husk' degrading. The large the husk built up around your divine shard becomes, the more vys you can toss around. However, if one were to find a way to do so casting directly with the substance which makes up the husk would be a far more powerful and efficient way of casting.”

The lower mouth speaks. “Well, you're partially correct. Casting with the husk, the leaving of divinity I suppose, is how the spirits employ magic. However, it is not exactly efficient for mortals. It is certainly more powerful, but even casting a simple spell using the husk is more draining by several orders of magnitude. Still more worrying is that with each spell you cast, some small aspect of your memory is lost. That being said, the most powerful feats of magic can only be accomplished by using the husk directly, so you're not wrong. You're just not wholly right either.”

As such, we'll want to keep our spiritual fire usage low. Casting it in a general fireball is inefficient. We should either use it to boost Zahak's own or fire it through the Hand Cannon right into the spirit's face.
>>
>>46803783
>>46803828
We should coordinate with our cat bro Mahana on joint attacks against the great water spirit.
>Mahana runs circles around the great water spirit drawing it's attention, Mik swoops in from above and blindsides it hit/run passes of double divine fire with Zahak.
>>
Too think anons avoided metal like the plague.
Also reminder that the jungle is full of sports and the fastest way to go through it would be with spirit says since that means sections of the jingle would be under the cats control.
>>

Use Shaping arts to encapsulate some of the husk of our soul. Manipulate it into fire magic, channeled through the hand cannon. Don't miss.

It won't be hard. The water spirit has made a very large target of himself.

Oy very this is extremely important.
>>
>>46803905
I seriously doubt we're capable of either of those at this stage.

I also doubt they're the same thing. This feels like it's more just harnessing the shard of divine and how it naturally burns and destroys Spirits than actually casting with it. That'll probably come next, once we understand how to consciously harness it.

We'll probably only be able to unleash a direct blast that the enemy Spirit.

>>46803911
Gotta make sure we can do it first

>A jungle full of sports. The only way to get through it is by playing Spirit Says and singing a jingle.
>>
>>46803932
we could shape the overall figure of our soul shell, instead of a small sphere, we could shape the soul shell into an arrowhead or a blade of sorts before we use divine essence reinforcement.
>>
>>46803932
None of that even makes sense.

The power comes from the Divine shard, not the soul.

And plus we barely know how to activate this power let alone channel it though a complex weapon. If that's even possible.
>>
>>46803965
He basically says our max vys is cut off each time we cast this way and on top of the spell being more powerful its more exoensive..
They never said it was for ever so my guess is a nights rest is all that it will take.
>>
>>46803965
This is precisely why I stated we need only use it in small amounts. It cost us about 3 vys to make cavern crashing shots on the spirit Larva underneath our brother's palace. Something along the lines of that will do just fine here.

>>46803975
The Rhynian hand cannon is a channeling weapon. We can cast spells through the bullets or barrel just as easily as we can through touch.
>>
>>46804001
Nah, better to create a tunnel to the shard and fire the SoulFire in a controlled blast at it.

Much better than just ramming will nilly into, where it can still harm our body. Cause ya know it is still 60 ft tall with hundreds of tentacles and powerful magic.
>>
>>46804002
I'm being general in my language. We absolutely do know how to employ this. We have done so numerous times, and once again, the Pranathma told us in plain words how to do so, as stated here >>46803905

We cast using the husk of our soul every time we finalize. We are the most qualified person to cast from our soul's husk.
>>
>>46803740
Can we vote to bring out our magic gun and load one bullet into it.(man its been months since we even used the bullets)
>>
>>46804012
You're making the assumption that this is even a spell or that it function similiar to one.

this is literally just reinforcing our Shard and pointing it at Spirits. It'd be like bumping Void bit and Spirit bits. One corrodes the other.

mfw post in new thread tonight
>>
>>46804054
Yes we have cast using the HUSK of our soul

This is not that. This is harnessing the SHARD of our soul. Much different.
>>
>>46803905
Just to clarify this a bit, by "more expensive" I mean that it will take off more from your max vys than it would have taken off your available vys if you'd just cast normally. I haven't actually decided if I want to make each spell cast with the husk knock off twice, three, or four times the amount it would have taken off vys. I was also considering having the cost grow exponentially.

Say you want to hurl liquid fire from your fingertips. With regular magic, that's 4 vys off your available vys.
Now, if you were to cast more-or-less the same spell from the husk, it would be either 8 vys, 12 vys, or 16 vys off your maximum vys. (4*2, 4*3, or 4^2)
>>
>>46804101
Please read the update in detail. It is specified that usage of the husk is what destroyed the entities in the library.

>>
>>46804120
Soma, please specify for the thread anons as you did in IRC. It is unfair to leave them with an incomplete understanding. Would we be able to channel the husk fire through the pistol? Is husk fire what we used in the library?
>>
>>46804120
Would we recover the max vys after sleeping?
>>
>>46804087
>I missed the thread 5-6 hours ago
>just came in to see I missed nothing
>It used to matter when you missed hours of this quest.
>>
>>46804120
can we use shaping arts to turn the overall shape of our soul shell into something pointier like an arrowhead? If dealing blows to spirits is like rubbing your soul husk against another spirit, why use a sphere shaped soul when you can turn the shape of your soul husk into something with more penetration value like a penis?
>>
>>46804120
So would this liquid fire cast from the husk have the same effect on the spirit that we have experienced so far?

ie totally wrecking them
>>
>>46804134
>>46804101
Casting from the husk is how spirits usually cast, and it's what you did to the void creatures. It's also what you were initially doing the two spirit trying to fuck you up right proper after you put on the crown.

However, what you did with reinforcing the shell isn't casting from the husk. It's directing the power of the divine shard.

>>46804164
Absolutely, it would be the same as any temporary malus to max vys.

>>46804160
Husk fire is indeed what you used in the library, and you could channel it into the pistol. In theory, it would be the same as channeling vys. However, Mik is unable to speak to its effects.

>>46804183
Who knows~ Liquid fire would be a combination of Water and Fire magic, and Mik has no idea what casting Water magic with the husk is like.
>>
>>46804209
Well then gentlemen, we have our intel. Let's use it. Boss, would mind setting up a vote to see whether we're leading a Meseeks army in a fruitless attempt to stem the horde of water spirit while it destroys Mahana and this realm, or if we're going to use Husk Fire channeled through our pistol to tear it a new asshole?
>>
Makes me fucking wish we had hundreds of max vys. We could just rofl stomp badass enemies with steroid magic.
>>
>>46804209

You let me know when you discover the Rune for Divine Shard.

Then we'll think about it.

But seriously if we do that has some insane potential.
>>
>>46804445
Soul is Divinity according to Mahana.
>>
>>46804445
>-Soul: This rune is primarily useful as a base rune, on which an enchantment is built. Enchantments built upon the Soul rune will effect the shard of divinity at the core of one's being, the defining characteristic that separates living creatures from inanimate objects. The souls is exceptionally fragile, and thus manipulating it is difficult to do safely. However, in the hands of a skilled enchanter this rune can be used to implant false memories in another or kill someone while leaving their body unharmed.

Anon, you've had this rune for months.

>>
>>46804464
Does the reason that reinforcing our shell and harnessing the power of the shard have an effect on spirits have anything to do with the fact that the shard is a piece of Surya? Like, is it a purer version of divine essence than the stuff you get in spirits?

Yeah you are. It just offers no bonuses on the roll.

Wouldn't be too hard on our own.

With SK it would be trivial. He could make bullets for our future guns if he wants.
>>
>>46806124
Is sadik still around?
Soma it hasn't been that long and you said that the old man would spend some time at our brothers palace to buy and sell shit.
Is he still there you promised us a visit to him before you threw plot at our face for no reason.
Also finding an underground dungeon would probably Interest the artifact merchant.
>>
>>46806217
only problem would be procuring the proper resources and refining them into the proper alloys needed.
>>
>>46806210
Not to mention all our memories are in our DE which we found out due to the Shaping Arts.

>>
>>46806282
Why don't we make gold coins with metal?
>>
>>46806309
Because it crashes the economy.
>>
>>46806309
The heavier the element the more vys it costs. Also the casters familiarity with the element to be transmuted to is important of efficiency.
>>
>>46806309
Please don't go there we have had this convo so many times and it always ends with us getting killed and having all of our shit taken away.
I lost count of how many times anon suggested we game the economy with metal.when in reality we could do it better with create, even if it cost a bit more
>>46806333
Soma also said that there are some harsh as shit laws and punishment for any vatis found doing this.
>>
Place your bets folks! Can the Incestuous Irish beat the clock in this mad dash to the boards end?
>>
>>46806274
One use for them is for combating void creatures. Since void creatures can ony be harmed by physical means, and future guns do absolute fuckloads of physical damage, they're pretty gud.

But I agree, against pretty much anything else with some kind of magical defense, they're pretty bad.
>>
>>46806309
Though if you think about it, proving that you transmuted the metal would be hard, especially if you used proxies to inject it into the economy.
>>
>>46806386
>>46806124

Guys, we can just enchant an artefact that spits out gold. Enchanted objects are self-sustaining, it would require pretty much zero effort for us to reap the gainz.

As for the legality issue - Who the fuck is gonna know? The world knows us as the batshit insane adventurer who plunders ancient ruins and get loads of money. Nobody's gonna question us showing up with a few extra shekels. Those Goyims will never know!

>What kinds of punishments are meted out? By whom? Why?
The mildest punishment is typically a fine, with a more moderate punishment being a variable number of whips from the lash. Death is a severe punishment, rarely handed down. However, the most severe punishment a Samjan can receive is to be labeled an Aghtaki. They are banished from the Shahdom, never permitted to return, and branded upon the right cheek with the name of the crime they've been found guilty of.

Well, what could it really hurt? They're just shadows, you're not even sure they're entirely corporeal. How much damage could they really cause? Depressing the glowing blue button at the center of the sphere, you watch as the blackness of the wood bleeds out into its surroundings. It accumulates at the edges of the wood for a time before falling to the ground soundlessly, the resulting creature is vaguely masculine, but lacking in any real features.

Out of curiosity, you pose it a question. “Can you communicate fine details to the creatures this artifact summons? Nod your head for yes, and shake your head for no.”

The creature nods its head once, and then vanishes with a soft pop. Interesting, you hadn't quite expected that. Perhaps they're telepathic, or communicate in some form of language which doesn't involve actually vocalizing anything? You recall a spirit you stumbled across in the void that seemed to do that, it moved its fingers into odd configurations in order to represent what you assume were words.

Depressing the button a second time summons forth a second shadow creature. You press the sphere into its chest, but it just stares at you. Right, orders. “Take this artifact and use it to make two thousand other shadows. Communicate to each new shadow that they are to seek out and destroy the minions of the water spirit currently invading this realm. If the number of shadows drops below two thousand, create reinforcements until the total number is back to two thousand. If any of them leave this realm, they are to destroy themselves. If I give the order, they are to destroy themselves. Your task will be completed when I tell you it is completed. Understood?”

(1/2)
>>
In response the shadowy figure grabs the ball of ebony and starts pressing the button repeatedly. Each new construct stand there for only a moment before leaping out the broken window, hurtling to the battlefield below. Satisfied, you mount up on Zahak's back. He'd been watching you for the past few minutes attentively, his confusion evident. {Do we finally get to burn things Papa?}

You send a jet of flame roiling across Zahak's neck, a gesture he seems to enjoy immensely. {Yes, Zahak. This is the part where we burn things. Show these unwitting fools what a dragon is truly capable of.}

Your son tenses his legs, his tail lashing out behind him in the moment before he propels the two of you forward. The marble floor vanishes in an instant and you're soaring over the battlefield, Zahak's wings snapping out to allow him a moment to maneuver.

Then he folds his wings to his side, and you're plummeting towards the melee with one hand clasped desperately onto the rim of your saddle and the other drawing your saber from your cloak. A subtle shift of his mass alters your course, and suddenly instead of the melee your target is the immense lobster currently pinning down the boar and preparing to disembowel the pour creature with one of its claws.

You're about to question Zahak's judgment, but notice a blue film stretched out in front of you. He's using the saddle, and you admit no small amount of curiosity as to its effectiveness. This curiosity is shortly sated when you slam into the invader's underling with enough force to rip it off the boar and carry it nearly a hundred feet, leaving a gash in the earth where its head carved through the rock.
(2/3)
>>
The spirit screeches in rage, its claws snapping at your son in an attempt to remove his head, but Zahak is fast enough to evade its attacks and launch a blast of fire directly into the creature's face. The spirit seems largely unaffected, but the boar is smart enough to take advantage of the opportunity you've granted it. At your urging Zahak leaps upwards, his wings beating furiously to carry him upwards. The boar charges into the exposed underbelly of the rival spirit just as your son pulls you both clear, its long tusk goring the lobster.

Trusting that the boar can handle the situation from here, you direct Zahak to bring you closer to the tentacled monstrosity that is the water spirit. He twist himself sharply in midair, his wings propelling the both of you forward. You have to dodge underneath one of those immense spears of ice as it makes its way towards a fleeing Mahana, but you're too absorbed in your task to notice.

Casting from the husk of your soul. You've done it several times already, and you know how potent the spells produced by the husk can be. What you wish to know is whether or not you can channel the husk as you do vys. Withdrawing your Rhynian Officer's Pistol from your cloak, you employ Earth magic to carve away a vast swathe of your soul. You have little time to consider how much less vibrant the world seems as you employ your understanding of Metal and Nature to guide this portion of yourself forward, channeling it through your arm and into the grip of the pistol.
>Vys Pool: (60/[60])
(3/4)
>>
>>46806730
I love Zahak
>>
It comes alive, lines tracing their way along the pistol's barrel as that which separates you from a corpse infuses the weapon. However, you find the effect underwhelming. Carving away still more of your soul, you find it suddenly hard to remember quite how you got here. You remember your objective at least, and you know where you are, you just don't seem to recall how it is you came to be fighting a war inside Mahana's realm. Regardless, you push this second portion of the husk into the grip of the pistol.
>Vys Pool: (52/[55])

The lights glow brighter, and light begins to spill from the ends of the twin barrels. You can feel the power in your hand threatening to blow the pistol apart the moment you pull the trigger, but that's a risk you're willing to take. What do you have to lose, after all? Seldom little, life is barely worth living to begin with. Zahak has drawn you close to the spirit now, and its back is turned to you. It almost seems like you could but reach out and press the barrels to its flesh. Taking aim is a trivial matter, you only hope this works.

You depress the trigger.

What issues from the barrel of the pistol is not the usual fire and brimstone. There is no recoil, nor does the retort of the gunpowder nearly deafen you.

Instead you watch on in horror and amazement as the world twist to accommodate the blast issuing from each of the twin barrels. Reality seems to pinch together in a line issuing straight from your gun to the invading spirit, space warping unnaturally. For a moment you think you can pick out the city of Anthus in the distance, and then it's the foyer of your home in El-Amin. The Cat's realm is tearing itself apart under the weight of spiritual power you've pressed into this ancient weapon, and for a moment you worry this may spell your end.
(4/5)
>>
Then contact is made, and Mahana's will reasserts itself in the vacuum created by your pistol. The hole blasted into the side of the spirit spreads like a virus, its edges as black as the void but brilliant golden light spilling from within. The spirit roars, twisting itself to face you. Zahak dives to evade a swipe of one enormous clawed hand, only to twist himself violently to the side in order to avoid a spear of ice which manifested itself beneath your draconic son.

Unfortunately, he couldn't avoid the beam of pure entropy which shoots from the exposed maw of the invading spirit. It takes him in the wing, ripping through membrane and bone alike. You watch in horror as two thirds of your son's wing simply falls away, blood trailing from the wound. Zahak roars, and though you channel Water magic into the wound the two of you are already plummeting towards the ground. The last thing you see before Zahak passes through the portal in which the spirit stands is Mahana leaping upon its back, his long teeth digging into the top of the creature's head and ripping away a significant portion of its flesh.

Then you're somewhere else entirely. Zahak crashes into a pool of stagnant water and you're thrown from the saddle, landing in a mass of gelatinous mold. Great structures of living coral rising from the muck all around you and directly ahead is an immense temple. Its yawning doorway must stand nearly a hundred feet tall and twenty wide. Unfortunately you have little time to admire the scenery. Your son is injured, collapsed in the muck an unmoving.

You're already pouring forth vys when you reach his side, thin bone slowly extending from the ruined flesh of his left wing. He's injured his neck in the crash, but it isn't serious and it's easily healed. You curse yourself for thinking a battlefield was an appropriate place for a child, though a calmer part of you promises that your decision to let Zahak decide was a perfectly reasonable one.
(5/6)
>>
Are you getting tired of BQ, Soma?

You seem to be running less and posting less often when you do run.
Although that was a pretty fuckhuge update right there.
>>
Your son begins to stir as the last of his membranous flesh extends from the base of his regrown wing. You also use the opportunity to heal a few fractures in your son's hind legs, fractures he likely hadn't noticed previously. When again his thoughts mingle with yours, the immense relief you feel is beyond description. It's fortunate then that Zahak's mind and your own are so intertwined, he simply lifts his head to nuzzle against your chest, the terror he felt at the loss of his wing slowly abating.
