You are Adrian Brown, a twenty five year-old third-year medical student living an otherwise normal American life in search of employment. That was until you woke up inside a derelict and demon-infested hospital with four other victims of short-term memory loss. Together, the five of you managed to somehow survive by negotiating with demons and defeating those that were not so amicable. And upon escaping, the all of you realized that it wasn’t as simple as that.

Task Force 666 a multinational organization dedicated to combating hostile demons and those that would use them for ill intentions. And the hellhole you just went through? That was your ‘job interview’, one that you passed with flying colors. When properly offered employment as an agent among the ranks, you accepted without too much hesitation or second thoughts. Duty to humanity and whatnot.

You are now a Devil Summoner in the service of the Task Force, and the de-facto leader of East Coast Operations Rookie Team Three. It is your duty to protect mankind from all threats involving the demonic, but how you choose to carry out your orders is entirely up to you. The choices you make shall not only affect those around you, but the fate of the entire world itself…

For the briefest of moments, everything…just stops.
Squad Carina, their demons, and even Duke Orias pause in their movements to watch Adrian Brown collapse onto the ground for unknown reasons. It was a rather unexpected and sudden event. One moment, he had been in the process of getting ready to toss a Dis-Poison to one of his demons, and the next? Boom, on the ground, unconscious and twitching.

Everyone has varying reactions. Brady, Victoria and Adrian’s demons are demonstrating myraid degrees of panic, from ‘oh shit’ to ‘ohmygodisheokay?!’. MacKay starts shouting into his COMP, “Man down, man down”, as Fitz moves to try and flank the enemy with consecutive blasts from her shotgun.

All Orias does is shrug, as if to say ‘not me’, and resume his attacks on the remainder of Carina Squad.

Then time resumes, and everything starts going down the slippery slope of FUBAR. Hopefully that can be rectified before it's too late.

Your name is Stanley MacKay, Devil Summoner of Task Force 666 and priest of the Roman Catholic Church. You say ‘priest’ and not ‘ex-priest’ because you were never formally defrocked by the overseeing Archbishop. Many men of the cloth, such as monks and clerics, Benedictines and Jesuits alike, have accepted the defrocking that came along with joining the Task Force out of the inability to handle the duties of both a Devil Summoner and a clergyman.

Not you, though.

There is still something you have to do before you can accept that. Not that you would ever harbor the desire to be deprived of the right to practice the functions of the ordained ministry. You’re quite too attached to the warm and fuzzy feeling that performing the holy rites fill you with.

But digressing from that, it looks like you’re in quite the pickle. Your leader is down and out for the count, and the demon Orias shows no sign of letting up or backing off. If anything, the big guy’s attacks have gotten more ferocious and deadly.

You shake your head and slap another magazine into your assault rifle and cambering a round in the barrel. Now’s not the time for trepidation or fear. Not if you can help it.

Have Brady secure Adrian's body. He's our sniper right?
>>
>>46803721
Orias is totally a distraction so some punk can grab the VIP (titania) while we fight off this dude. Since MacKay and fitz are the best fighters, we should at the very least have one on box-duty at all times
>>
>>46803767
But we are literally right next to the box. The fight is happening around the car.
>>
>>46803795
Still would be a good idea to keep someone on guard, and make sure that Fitz and the others don't get so into fighting they let Orias draw them from the car

Hefting your gun and commanding your demons, you rush forward to join Fitz in her counter attack. “Get Adrian’s body secure!” You shout to Brady and Victoria. “And whatever you do, don’t let anyone get close to that box!”

The Englishman hesitates before nodding sharply and making a mad dash towards your squad leader. “Aye! Victoria, on me now!”

Once you’re sure that they’re up and running to secure Adrian, you tear your eyes away from them and sprint towards Fitz. The former policewoman has Orias on the ropes, in spite of the perpetual flames that the duke blasts at her. Combined with her magical Force bullets and her Apsaras’ ice magic, it seems that she’s been doing a decent job of keeping him busy.

Not strong enough to kill him, though, even with the exploitation of his apparent weakness. Seems like he hates ice. But you digress. This is a Duke of Hell. It won’t go down without a significant effort on your parts.

You make it within range just as Fitz dodged a ramped-up Maragion spell that Orias expelled towards her.

“We need to buy time for the reinforcements to arrive!” You shout to your demons as you line up a shot. “Knocker, we need a defensive buff now! And if it isn’t too much to ask, you said you had a negotiation skill, Hua Po?”

She tilts her head, confused. “Yes, that’s right. Nag and…pester?”
You give her a tight smile. “Think you can try to Pester our friend from hell?”

Her eyes widen and her eyes dart towards Orias, you, back to the enemy demon, before stopping on you. “…okay, if that’s what you think is best.”

>Your demon is at 100% Loyalty.
>It will not question or disobey your order.

“Don’t stay if it gets dangerous, alright? Just do what you can to buy time without getting hurt.”

“Yes, master!”

With that, she flies right up to a surprised Orias and starts running her mouth. “Hey, mister demon? Listen, I was having the roughest time the other day…”

As the Chinese demon continues to distract your enemy, Knocker hits all of you with a defense buff. You feel the familiar flow of the magic reinforce your body, girding you in a magical defense. Attacks coming in from the big guy were gonna hit less than they originally would.

At the sight of the Chinese wood fairy running her mouth and going on and on about the misfortunes of her other day, Orias isn’t too impressed. AS a matter of fact, the stoic mask on his face cracks for the briefest of moments. Retracting his snake-like hands, he redirects them towards Hua Po with an irritated snarl.

“Cease your blathering, you simpering twit!” He roars. You’re not sure what he’s trying to do. From the way the snakes’ mouths have opened wide open, he could have been trying to bite her. But the way he was flailing them about, they could have been trying to hit her. “I have no time to hear the woes of lesser beings! This is the field of battle, and I will not tolerate its mockery!"

>Orias has lost one of his Actions for the next two rounds!

Hua Po yelps, barely managing to dodge the swipe of his hands, and retreats back to your side. And just in time, too. As soon as she clears the field of fire, you squeeze the trigger of your assault rifle and open up on the Duke of Hell.

For being such a large demon, you didn’t expect him to be as fast as he would. One of the bullets flies right past him, but two of them manage to hit Orias in the torso. Regretfully, they didn’t seem to punch through the demon’s body, let alone get in that deep into his vitals.

But the point remains that the damage was enough for him to stumble back, with a pained grunt coming out of his fanged mouth. The snakes thrash wildly in response to the pain, as well as the horse the duke is mounted on. Perhaps there was a symbiotic connection between the demon and his beast of burden?

That’s something to consider.

Fitz moves in to follow up immediately after you pull back. She shouts orders for her demons, and they respond in kind. Lham Dearg bellows out a roar, and from his mouth, a wave of magical energy races towards Orias.

>Lham Dearg used Rakunda!

Not too far behind, Apsaras uses an ice spell, a Bufu. Crystalline shards of ice race towards the Fallen, penetrating deep and gouging out flesh wherever they strike. It clearly hurts, and Orias staggers back as permafrost starts to creep and form up along its various limbs and appendages.

“Well done, Children of Adam and Eve!” He shouts, struggling to break the ice forming around his body. “Do not hesitate to strike or exploit the weaknesses of the enemy. On the field of battle, victory in itself is honorable enough, and damn those who scream and cry about decorum and protocol. Everything is fair in both conquests of the heart and through the crossing of blades!”

Orias manages to mouth that off before he completely becomes encased in ice. His mouth is frozen in what looks like a pained grin. At least, that’s what you think it is. You’ve gotten better since joining the Task Force, but there are some demons that are just too…not-human to read properly. Their facial expressions that is.

Fitz nonchalantly slides up to the Frozen demon and aims her shotgun point-blank at the heads of Orias’ snake arms, the right one to be precise. Without even looking in your direction, she unleashes a single round of Force-enhanced buckshot into the snake head…

…and causes it to promptly get blown off, covered in more holes than a block of Swiss cheese. The snake doesn’t even have time to hiss in pain or surprise before it hits the ground, shattering into countless tiny shards of ice.

Fitz pumps the spent round out of the gun and turns to you. “We need to hit him while he’s down!” she asserts.
“He isn’t gonna to stay like this forever. I’d rather do as much damage as I can while he can’t do jack shit to retaliate.”

Together, with Hua Po and Knocker standing by your side, you charge towards Orias, guns blazing and spells being launched at the frozen demon. Fitz lets out a war cry of cuss words and other profanities along with the discharge of her weapon.

This has to have been the most damage you’ve ever gotten in on something for your entire career as a Devil Summoner. By the time you pull back, the duke of hell resembles nothing like the regal demon that had ambushed the others a few minutes ago.

The other snake has been blasted off completely, leaving him with two headless reptilian bodies for arms. Demonic ichor pours from the mouth of his mount as it stands up on wobbly legs, its breath coming out in short, pained gasps. Orias himself looks no better. Shards of ice are still embedded deep into his skin, and countless lacerations and cuts are laced across his skin.

But he doesn’t seem to be angry. On the other hand, he seems…thrilled?

“It has been many years since I’ve last taken that much damage from a mortal attack,” Orias grounds out. He spits out a mouthful of broken teeth and laughs. “Very good, Children of Man! You have turned what would have been a disappointing extermination into a challenge that has actually hurt me. You have made me feel pain!”

The roar that comes out of his mouth is one that is charged with fighting spirit, and the pride of a warrior. It actually causes nearby trees to groan in distress against the sudden winds, and you find yourself digging your heels into the asphalt to stay on balance.

“Very well, Devil Summoners of the Grey Order! I shall grant you the honor of fighting me at my full power!”

Some fights you regret walking away from, running away from. Painful memories that have kept you up at night for the last ten years. Events that you so dearly desire to rectify if you had the chance, and still have yet to atone for. Your reasons for joining the clergy, your reasons for joining the Task Force.

A second chance to rectify your greatest mistake, a sin that no priest can ever absolve you from.

“It’s too late to stop, Stan! There’s no stopping, no stopping nowwwwwwww!”

You close your eyes and exhale. "Stipendium peccati mors est..."

But this is not one of those fights. You know your limits quite well. The fact that the analyst from central is screaming at you to retreat only heightens the knowledge that it is time to withdraw.

Galvanized, you shout, “Pull back! Fitz, we need to pull back to the van!”

She regards you with a look as if you’ve lost your mind. “MacKay, are you serious? We’re just getting started here-”

You cut her off with a pointed look. “He was sandbagging earlier. And as much as I would love to go ‘Deus Vult’ and join you in beating back one of the worst enemies of my religion, I have no desire to have the mission fail. Central’s reinforcements are on their way. We just need to lock down the area-”

“Okay, okay, fine!” She huffs in annoyance as she joins your retreat. “Apsaras, Lham Dearg! It’s time to head out! We gotta head back to the Cadillac!”

>You and Fitz spent your actions retreating.

"What did I tell you about turning your backs, Children of Man?!" You hear Orias roar behind you.

You don’t even have time to blink. One moment, you’re jogging along with your demons, and the next instant, a terrible, burning pain lances right through your thigh. You can’t hold back the scream that escapes the back of your throat as you lose your balance and spill onto the asphalt road.

“MacKay!/Master!”

>-8 HP

For the briefest of moments, all you can do is stare at the source of the terrible pain: one the size of your thumb right through an unarmored section of your leg, and another terrible wound from the opposite side. Crimson liquid weeps from the holes, rapidly coating your fatigues and the Kentucky highway in your life’s blood. Even moving in the slightest bit causes excruciating pain to race up your leg.

God have mercy.

You’ve just been shot.

Then you feel a pair of arms grab you, Lham Dearg from the musculature and roughness that pulls you up on your good leg. The Scottish demon doesn’t even break a sweat at the combined weight of your body and the equipment you’re carrying on your shoulders.

“Shit!” Fitz curses, as she fires at the oncoming Orias. The duke winces as the bugshot peppers him, but other than mild superficial damage, it didn’t seem to have done anything. “We need one of Adrian’s demons to get that fixed. Don’t think a Life Stone is gonna cut it for something that bad-”

You can feel the hairs on your arm stand up on their end as you see a bolt of lightning arc from the car and towards some unknown position in the tree line above the road.

“I missed the bastard!” You can hear High Pixie whine. “He’s still out there guys! Take him down, Mister Brady!”

“I’d do that if you didn’t just mess up my shot!” He snaps back. “And you probably sent the sniper scurrying back to find another vantage point. Not to mention that – holy shit, MacKay!”

Victoria nervously stands around the trunk of the car, her eyes darting from one corner of the road to another. Upon seeing you and Fitz, her face breaks out into one of relief, then deep concern at the sight of Lham shouldering you all the way back to the car.

“Father MacKay! Are you-” She cries out. You give her a smile to assure her that you’re alright, but that quickly gives way to dread when she levels her assault rifle towards you. “Look out!”

She discharges the gun, and a stream of bullets smack Orias right in the face. That actually provokes a significant response. The demon reels back, clutching and groaning at the half-magazine of led currently stuck in his face.

“Jesus Christ…give us a bit of warning next time, Vicky!” Fitz curses, then yelps as shards of ice race towards the Stunned demon. "WHAT DID I SAY?!"

“Sorry!”

As soon as you make it back to the safety of the car, Adrian’s new demon approaches you with magic in her hands. “If you would hold still, good priest…” Angel intones.

>You were healed for +4 health.

Flexing your leg, you quickly thank her, and join the others for a quick briefing.

“Reinforcements aren’t gonna get here in time,” Brady mutters, lining up a shot. Mokoi and Jack Frost are joining Victoria in holding Orias off with magical attacks. “We’d be fine with the sniper, but I’m more worried about, you know, the duke of hell that’s slowly coming our way.”

Checking behind you, you find the figure of Orias Frozen in a completely solid block of ice. This one seems to be a bit stronger than the others, considering that he just got hit by four consecutive ice attacks. The guy looks like he’s trapped in some kind of glacier.

You were once the captain of a football team, as well as a master sever and deliverer of homilies. It takes very little effort to school your voice into something more commanding or straightforward to the others. “We have to get out of here. There’s no way we can handle both of them at the same time.”

Brady and Victoria look ready to agree with you, but Fitz holds up a hand. “Wait, what the fuck? We’re just going to run? I thought we came back here to hold down the fort, MacKay…”

“It’s the best option,” You quietly assert. “We’re going up against something that’s in a heavier weight class than we are now. And right now, you’re too trigger happy to go up against Orias to think straight.”

“Well damn. Who died and made you…” The words die in her mouth as she looks to the unconscious Adrian. Victoria and Brady give her the stink eye, and High Pixie gives her the finger. You don’t give her any sort of scorn. She held no ill intent in her words.

You sigh, and respond with…

“It isn’t our mission to kill Orias. It’s to get Queen Titania back to the fairy kingdoms unharmed and safe.”

She grimaces, and pinches the bridge of her nose together. “Yeah, I know that much. Guess…I just kind of got carried away fighting him…shit…”

“I’m doing what Adrian would have wanted, which is what’s best for the squad as a whole. And if he weren’t in this…” You gently nudge your squad leader’s leg with the tip of your boot, “Unconscious state, I’m more than certain that he would make the same decision. Trust me when I say this.”

>Fitz’s opinion of MacKay has improved!

“…well, I can’t argue with that. But still…” Fitz frowns. “Speakin’ of which, what happened to him?”

Brady and Victoria look at each other before simultaneously shrugging. “Hell if I know/No idea.”

…well then.

You clap your hands together and offer a polite smile. “Well, now that that’s settled, we need to high tail it out of here. Let’s leave the big guy to the reinforcements from Central, okay? And would you mind driving? I would normally get back behind the wheel, but our friend in the treeline put a bullet through my leg…”

“I’ll drive,” Victoria says, quickly kneeling and rummaging around Adrian’s pocket for the keys. Frowning, she rummages a bit deeper before turning a bright shade of pink and immediately retracting her hands. “I..erm…ah…well…I found the keys?”

You nod. “Excellent. Now let’s get out of here before our mutual friend in the ice wakes up. Central, did you get all of that?”

“Yes we did. Unknown assailant with a sniper rifle, possibly human. Orias is Stunned and Frozen in a block of ice on the highway. Get Queen Titania back to her home. We’ll take care of the popsicle.”

You smile as you ease into the shotgun seat, wincing at the pain. Popsicle. You were always one for the most banal of jokes.

One unsummoning of their respective demons later, Fitz and Brady quickly move Adrian into the car, not being too careful in their rush to move. Much to High Pixie’s annoyance and Angel’s judgmental disapproval. They unceremoniously prop him in the middle seat, quickly strapping him before clambering in themselves and shutting their doors violently.

The motion causes his head to loll to the side, falling to lean on Brady’s shoulder.

“…don’t make a joke, or I swear I’ll get Jack Frost to freeze the smiles on your faces,” He warns.

Fitz responds by taking a picture with her COMP, her good mood and boisterous grin restored to her face.

You quickly drown out the sound of Brady insinuating that Fitz’s ancestors mated with monkeys and the sound of Victoria muttering something in Japanese repeatedly to herself. After confirming some of the finer details with Central, you cut of the communication line and focus inwards.

You pray once to thank God for protecting your friends from harm.

You pray once to help Adrian get better soon from the malady that afflicts him.

You pray once for living through another engagement.

And as always, you conclude by praying for the souls of Nathan Gleeson and Louise Fierre.

The Legionnaire hasn’t dreamt of that day for the longest of times.

He stands up, throwing the sheets off of his body, and sets himself to work on his daily routine. As the shower warms up, he checks his messages. The Filii Lupum completed another successful operation in the Alps, and the science team had made a breakthrough in the pagan artifact excavated from the countryside.

He responds to concerns from his doctor, approves of a budget reallocation, ignores offers for virile enhancement pills and authorizes the execution of a charity group found consorting with demons.

It hasn’t even been seven o’clock yet.
Even the mist of the shower could not completely cleanse the dream out of his head.

The Legionnaire sits down in the cafeteria, alongside the men and women underneath his command. He feasts and drinks, and asks about their families and loved ones, sharing anecdotal stories and current events. Some things rarely change, and this remained a constant throughout his long life. Command of over a hundred souls, fire-forged and tempered by the trials they have endured.

They would march into hell with him if he as much as asked. They are good people.

Even breakfast with his subordinates does nothing to ease the Centurion’s mind.

He sits down in his office chair, taking in the scent of potpourri and other confections from across the Mediterranean. There are pieces of the Ancient world from countries and cities whose names have been lost to the passages of history. Constantinople, Sparta, Mytillini, Celephon, and many more peoples and places come and gone. A relic to remind himself, to keep the time.

But his first and favorite is the spear he carried that day, sealed away and only used in times of great need.

Dreams are an aggregation of memory and fantasy. But there was nothing fantastic about the event that was literally etched into his soul.

Last time on Everyone is Lucifer Quest....

>Everyone recruited to Task Force had prior experience with a Demon.

One of the primary financial backers of the Task Force is Morgan Stern.

He could never forget, even if he wanted to. No matter how much time has passed since then, it was as if the events of his dreams only happened the day prior.

The day he bore witness to an innocent man’s death on the Place of the Skull so many years ago.

“Commander Gaius?”

The Legionnaire opens his eye. It is Maria le’Grande, his personal assistant and apprentice, a young and pretty face with a wit as sharp as a razor. Rumors go about illicit relationships, but all it took to dispel them was a disapproving look. He still has the aura, and the absolute respect of his soldiers.

“What is it, Maria?”

She clears her throat and opens up the holographic display of her COMP. “The Director wishes to speak with you. The European summit is approaching soon, and he just wants to make sure you’ll show up this time.”

“I only missed one to help lock down an internal threat, and he annoys me every time because of it.”

“There is the fact that you chose to also ignore his messages.”

“He is too young to worry about such things at his age. His hair will turn as white as mine by the time the holidays come.”

“Yes, sir. Be that as it may, I thought it would be interesting to let you know that Murdock has been taken into custody by the Americans.”

He raises an eyebrow. “Murdock? What do our brethren in the New World want with him?”

“I have forwarded the report to you to read at your leisure. It’s quite the story Now, if you would please come with me. The Director is waiting, and he won’t take no for an answer.”

He smiles, pressing his fingers to his lips and then touching the cross above the door frame as he exits. He and a handful of people back then, and some of his legion, had known the truth that day. And even now, in beautiful Italy, center of the faith, many of them believed.

That, truly, that man the Legionnaire stabbed on Golgotha so many years ago was the Son of God.

One last Worldbuilding dump before I potentially hit the sack.

>Most European countries have their own Task Force, barring smaller countries that share with their bigger neighbors.
>Each Division has a permanent detatchment to their respective heads of state, working with whichever protective service (i.e. the Secret Service) in order to protect the head of the country from demonic attacks.
>The Japanese Task Force are run by powerful families of Devil Summoners who can trace their lineage as far back as seventeen generations.
>In spite of their differing opinions, both Sons of Sparda followed in the footsteps of their parents and joined the Task Force.

Has the Task Force ever encountered the Demi-Fiend?
or Stephen?
>>

Did we make the right choice running?
>>
>>46812466
that depends on >>46807186

It's the difference between easily being able to stand ground until reinforcements arrive or what happened was okay.
>>
>>46812466
Everyone is alive and Titania is still secure. Yes we did good.
>>
>>46809679
Sparda was a Commander of the Task Force, and Eva was a high-ranking Devil Summoner.

>>46811139
Yep. Any further details, you'll have to ask him in person.

>>46811178
Stephen has not made an appearance in this iteration. And as for the Demi-fiend, the Task Force has not met the one from SMT3, but there have been instances where they've gone up against some poor schmuck who accidentally swallowed a Magatama and got taken over by the worm due to a weak will.

>>46812466
A big part of SMT is knowing when to fold them. So yes, I suppose you did the right thing.
>>
>>46814430
I assume the magatama is not look well upon

Whatchu bumping for? If Kaz wants to run today better to have a clean thread no?

Might as well have him continue this one then ride it into the ground.

>Anon, what happens when you fall asleep?

Naw, nigguh. And you wouldn't get a stiffy within five minutes of falling asleep like that anyway.

I'm late as shit, man.
>>
>>46814430
Nice.
I doubt the possessed aren't that much of a threat, unless they end up with a super high tier Magatama somehow though, and those are rare as fuck.

More dangerous would be the ones who don't get taken over and can hide it and actually learn the skills and possibly use multiple Magatama.
>>
>>46818666
Nightmare fuel probably

>>46819828
Definately. Luckily they seem to be pretty rare.

Mackay is more likely to fall for it than Adrian.
