You are Janrael, Angel Soulborn, member of the adventurers club, and apprentice wizard.

You are perched on the top of a roof, looking down at an armoured figure destroying zombies and skeletons. So that's Lord Tamulus, the Paladin.

“We'll fight him at a distance” you say to Calluna, Phaysis and Nataline “I can fly, Calluna can go up and down walls easily and Phaysis can run fast – Nataline I want you on Phaysis, I bet that guy can take out any of us easily.”

Nataline says “Really, you mean I get-”

“Don't say it!” Phaysis warns her.

“-ride Philly?” Nataline finishes with a wink, Phaysis glares at you, then her “I hate that name” she mutters. Nataline puts and arm around her, laughing, finally Phaysis smiles too.

With your plan ready, you watch the others climb down off the roof as you take to the air, circling overhead until the others are ready. Once they are in position you prepare to act.

Okay, my suggestions for some of the others:
>Anlanesa

+1 CON (-1BarbTP)
+3 HP (-3BarbTP)
+1 Axe Combat (-1BarbTP, -1XP)
+2WP (-4SorcTP)
+See Invisibility (-1SorcTP)

>Safire

+Stone Shape (-2SorcTP)
+Wall of Stone (-2SorcTP)
+Earthquake (-5SorcTP)

You already covered Janrael and Phaysis, which is fine.

Just one question, how exactly is Wizard Specialisation chosen? Does it cost XP?
>>
>>46859793
Between those four, about half of it, mainly Nat and a good piece to Calluna. A few other girls got decent chunks, and after going through all 14, all of the TP/XP has been spent.

You should still post your own list, though, it'll be useful in the immediate future because XP gain is constant.

>>46859907
That is actually pretty close to my spending for Anlanesa, just focusing on WP instead of going for Arcane Reserve for the +10 AE.

Bit different for Safire, but still focusing mainly on spells. I will say that I am extremely reluctant to purchase an L5 spell this early in the game for vague-semblance-of-balance-type reasons.

Specialization is chosen like any other class power, but usually you're limited to having two schools at most. The first costs 4 XP/rank, the second costs 8 XP/rank. They each have their own sets of sub-powers, a side-pool of AE specifically for spells of that school and the ability to greatly enhance spells of their chosen school. Hope that makes it clearer.

Calluna, being the reality-breaking eldritch horror daughteru she is, can theoretically get all of them with one of her unique powers.
>>
>>46860041
>The first costs 4 XP/rank, the second costs 8 XP/rank.
Ah okay, because I thought it might be a good time to use all those accumulated Wizard TP on the girls to give them all their Specializations now, so we need to figure out who gets what (I'd rather not overlap).

I've been meaning to discuss that in-thread before committing to a purchase, since it's a big decision. What schools does everyone think each daughteru should/would go for?

The main ones up for discussion right now would be Cleya, Janrael, Safire and Tisania (she's just managed to become a proper Wizard as of this spending).

Calluna does already have Conjuration specialization, but overlapping with her is practically an inevitability given No Schools But One existing, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.
>>
>>46860212
>Cleya, Janrael, Safire and Tisania
I'd go with Transmutation or Divination for Cleya, Evocation for Safire (because of the huge AE pool making her a superb blaster), Janrael get Abjuration (since thats her interest anyway) and Tisania is pretty much open, I'd say Illusion.
>>
>>46860212
>she's just managed to become a proper Wizard as of this spending
Ah, so you already got something for everyone?
Guess I don't need to keep tinkering then.
>>
>>46860212
Cleya=Divination (its funny because... well its good for a bookworm kind of wizard)
Janrael=Abjuration
Safire=Probably something you'd use a lot and coild support monk, Transmutation, or maybe Illusion. Though we could also go full Evocation with her and have her try to get Senpais attention with huge explosions.
Tisania=Illusion, definitly, unless Safire gets that. I think it would help her as a sort of safety blanket.
>>
>>46860295
Yeah, sorry anon. Keep making a list, though. Doesn't even need to be specific powers technically, just having an idea of what people want for each girl's XP/TP is immensely useful.
>>
>>46860391
>Yeah, sorry anon.
Nah its fine, we took our sweet time with it anyway.

Lucinda

+2Bardic Inspiration (-8BardTP)
+2WP (18) (-6SorcTP) Gets Sorcerer Class
+Dominate Person (-3SorcTP)

I want to build her into a control/support character, primarily, before we move on to close combat, also gert to bardic Inspiriation 3 ASAP to apply those +6 to everyone with Crowd Performance.

Is the only one thats actually a relevant direction of those I got, most are just (Spend TP for Class), like Tisania, who just got Melee Training so she can use her claws too if necessary.
>>
“Calluna, we can't take him on alone, can you call up some help?” You call out

Calluna, clinging to a wall, smiles at you “of course!” she replies with a grin. You're not entirely sure how she does it but a pair of creatures appear in the street below her: one looks like a stone elemental...sort of, its made of no stone you recognise and is lit by an eerie light from within – impressive for something that's black and purple in colour. The other resembles an angel crossed with a madmans painting of his innermost fears. Both have too many arms and eyes and looking at them makes you want to throw up.

Calluna points and they both charge at the paladin. The two of them are singing a song that you can almost...understand...

Circling above to get a good view of the battle, you cast your own spell, sheathing yourself in protective magical force.

Below you, Phaysis fires an arrow that hits the paladin in the midsection, but bounces off to now effect, his armour protecting him. On Phaysis's back, Nataline casts some sort of spell, but you're too high up to see what it is.

“Good shot!” calls the paladin out in a cheery aristocratic voice, pointing his sword at Phaysis he yells out a spell or something: A brilliant white light erupts from the sword tip and strikes Phaysis in the chest, then Lord Tamulus begins to march towards her. The young centaur-girl recoils but doesn't seem hurt however...as she tries to step backwards to keep her distance she simply freezes. Phaysis tries to move away from the paladin again, but fails, dancing around on the spot in clear frustration she takes several steps towards him without any hindrance.

“You can't escape” Lord Tamulus explains in an upbeat-sounding voice “now you'll have to face me in honourable combat young miss.”
>>
Calluna's...friends reach the shining armoured figure and he blocks the strikes of the angel-like one with his shield and lashes out with his sword at the stone one. As soon as his sword touches the...thing it vanishes. Calluna's howl of outrage splits the air.

“Good show!” he compliments the many armed angel-thing raining blows down upon his shield “but I've fought stranger things in my time, why once I was in the westwoods of Tromo and...” the rest of his story is drowned out by the clash of steel upon steel.

Phaysis stops trying to get away, swaps her bow for her spear, and charges. Yelling about her lost friend, Calluna follows her in.

You cast a spell to protect Phaysis, even as Nataline casts one to protect Calluna. Nataline slips off from Phaysis back as the nightmare-girl rushes in.

Faced with Calluna's summoned...friend, and both of the other girls, the old paladin seems to be enjoying himself: easily parrying or avoiding their attacks whilst complimenting them at the same time.

Counter attacking, a shield bash sends Phaysis sprawling, and a sword-thrust aimed at Calluna is taken by the angel-thing as it leaps in the way, screeching in an unearthly tone.

Lord Tamulus seems taken aback at this and turns to Phaysis “Oh so sorry young lady I forget my own strength sometimes, I do apologise” adding to the angel-like thing “good sir, madam or otherwise I am most regretful, that was very careless of me and I-well done young miss!” Taking advantage of his distraction, Calluna manages to hit his helmet with a single sword strike. She continues to lash at his with swords and tentacles but he blocks a few attacks, sidesteps her charge and then slaps her lightly on the rear with the flat of his sword – making her stumble forwards, rubbing her abused rear with a snarl of annoyance.

You chuckle at Calluna's misfortune, whilst trying to work out how to beat this old guy – if he were serious you doubt you'd have a chance, but he seems to be trying to be sporting – maybe if you manage to land a few more hits he'll quit? Or you could try just wearing him out, he is rather old after all.

Lord Tamulus is unimpressed, writing.
>>
Nataline rushes towards Phaysis as the centaur is struggling to her feet and heals her. Together you attack the paladin again – Calluna summoning another elemental – one that burns with a flame that spreads outwards rather than rising up.

The old paladin battle the five of you together for several minutes without either side landing a blow – despite his age he's quick on his feet and nothing can get through his defences. But at least all of you together are a match for- with a flurry of quick strikes he banishes both of Calluna's friends and knocks you, Calluna and Phaysis down, leaving the three of you groaning on the floor.

Dipping his weapon in salute to Nataline, causing her to back up slightly, looking worried Lord Tamulus says “really, you showed such promise, and then it all fell apart. I was told such good things about you and yet...” he sighs, adding “I really must speak to your teacher about what he's been teaching you. Perhaps you are the best of your generation...in which case I worry for the future.”

He examines you to make sure that none of you are seriously hurt, and then strides on towards the town centre, leaving Nataline to heal you and help you all back to one of the judges, to find out your next task, to your shame it seems the old paladin beat you.

XXX

That afternoon the days events, quests and battles come to an end – all of the teams and participants have some time off. The other girls of Egwen failed to take down the High Priest, but did capture a number of adventurers sent to rescue the Lord Mayors son.

Of the other teams the Disciples of St Angius, the Merciful Sisters and Hongenstone have done well and are ahead on points. One of the smaller teams has also done well – a party of halflings and gnomes that are riding around in some many-legged mechanical monster. From the Bachua school of Magineering they are known as the Reckless Wreckers.
>>
Swift Shadow Run have acquitted themselves well but have not excelled – they have destroyed several powerful undead but not achieved any major mission goals.

Liberated Joy ,the Inkies and most of the smaller clubs have done poorly.

Gathering you all together, the Professor relays all of this and adds “this afternoon you have some time to yourselves, but I want you all back here by ten o'clock – no later!” he shoots a significant look at Chame, adding “feel free to hang out with the clubs but no fighting, and if they don't want you around, steer clear of them. You can go shopping if you want, or just rest in the quarters that have been provided. If you're looking for the other clubs I'm told Hongenstone are out in the taverns. The Inkies are confined to quarters as the Reckless Wreckers. Swift Shadow Run are going to the dancing halls, the Merciful Sisters to the theatre. No one has seen the Disciples of St Angius and who knows what Liberated Joy are up to – they were last seen heading towards the Red Quarter.” Chame gins and opens her mouth, the Professor adds “which is off-limits to all of you – anyone caught there will be confined to their quarters for the rest of the trip and will face a month of detention back at the school.”

The girls all start chatting to one another, splitting into groups and deciding who is going where. You find yourself in a group of three girls (including yourself)

You are Cleya, Beholder Soulborn, apprentice wizard, star pupil and teachers assistant, if only the Professor noticed all the hard work you put in to help him...

Of course you grab your best friend Anlanesa, asking her “shopping?”

“Shopping” she confirms to you with a grin. You can see the rest of the girls sorting themselves into groups and Safire is hanging around Kittrane, seemingly hoping to be invited along but Kittrane and Phoebe start to walk away together. You can't see Safire's expression behind her mask but she seems to slump and turns towards the bedrooms, walking slowly.

“Let's take Safire along” you say to Anlanesa “I bet she can use some new clothes.”

'Nesa gives you a funny look but doesn't argue as you wander over and say “Safire, hey, over here?”

“Who, what, me?” says the younger girl, looking round, her heavy robes and mask hiding well, everything about her.

“Yes you silly” you say, smiling “'Nesa and I are going shopping, want to come with us?”

Safire just looks at you, her expression hidden behind her mask.

“It'll be fun” says Anlanesa, waving at her encouragingly “C'mon.”

After a pause Safire says “ok” and joins you.

XXX

The three of you wander through the main streets, still packed with people even this late in the day. As you walk you notice that the topic on everyone's lips is the adventuring event. Everyone is talking about it – discussing the fights that had happened, picking favourites, lamenting the performance of some teams, praising others.

Lets of passersby wave at you, ask you what to expect for tomorrows events and congratulate you. Before long you are wearing a big silly grin – mirrored on Anlanesa's face. This is treatment you're not really used to. It's not all positive of course – some people glare at you, making sides of warding against evil magic, spitting on the ground and one shopkeeper refuses to serve you – but they are in a minority.
>>
After a long time looking in windows and walking down cobbled streets you have seen much of what the town has to offer and you are ready to start buying.

“Let's get some of those blown glass gifts” says Anlanesa “I bet the club house will look a lot brighter with those around. Or maybe some swimming clothes. Phaysis told me that Evrumine told her that the Professor said the next big event was going to be by the sea – it'll be nice yo go swimming in water that doesn't turn solid around me.”

“I saw a bookstore back there” you say, looking sideways at Anlanesa, who rolls her eyes “books, books books” she complains, but follows it up with a smile, adding “why don't we let Safire choose, Safire?”

Walking in between the two of you, Safire looks back at forth between you both “Um...” she starts.

From an alleyway up ahead you hear yelling voices – sounds like some teenage boys, followed by a yelp of pain and cursing. The small sidestreet you're on doesn't have many people on it, and they're ignoring the sounds of fighting coming from the alleyway.

Exchanging a worried look with Anlanesa you say “Uh, should we...?”

Chewing on your lower lip you look curiously towards the mouth of the alleyway, wondering what Professor Sallazar would want you to do if he was here.

No more noises come from the alley, they've probably stopped.

“I think the best bookstore is this way” you say, leading Anlanesa and Safire to a weird-looking shop selling some suspect titles.

XXX

Wandering through ancient and warped shelves, peering at the titles on the spines, you marvel at the size of the shop – such a big book shop that only has a tiny front, how does the owner store all this stuff in here?

There're books on history, politics, natural sciences, fiction, religion – even on a high shelf out of your reach a section labelled 'exotic romance – with illustrations banned in three countries!'

Anlanesa and Safire walk with you, peering at the titles on the shelves.

“Found what you're after Cleya?” asks Anlanesa, fidgeting. You know that books aren't really her thing. Oh sure she studies hard, but she just doesn't understand the pleasure of opening a new book whilst curled up in a comfy chair, the smell of parchment and the soft feeling on your fingertips...

“I bet Phaysis would like that one” says Safire, pointing at a book titled 'Dreams and thee meanings thereof', pointing at another she adds “Nevyn would like that one” the book is titled 'Displacer-Beasts as Pets: Care, Feeding and Breeding'. Looking around there are books of all varieties, finding one suitable for anyone you know would be easy, but...you want something special for a certain person. At these prices you could buy 2 books...maybe 3, but three would use up all of your money.

Spotting an ancient gnome checking titles off a list you ask him “excuse me Sir, I was wondering, do you have any magic books?”
>>
Turning, he peers at you myopically through thick lenses and says in a dusty voice “young miss I don't sell books on magic, you want a mages guild for that – too dangerous.”

“Oh...” You say, your gaze falling, you had hoped to find something special for-

“But” he says, perhaps picking up on your mood “I do have....” he walks off creakily, coming back with a book titled 'Arcane Secrets: Common Origins of the Barde, Sorcerere, Wyzard and othere Arcanists' – it seems to be a book on the early use of arcane magic, and how the different types of mages became, well, different.

“Is this what you're looking for?” asks the be-speckled old gnome.

Arcane Secrets for yourself and something for Safire, writing.
>>
You select you books carefully before digging into your money pouch. Arcane Secrets intrigues you,but not to give away – you want it for yourself. Who knows what you might find in those pages?

Your second purchase is a book not for you, but for the young gemgirl following you around. Several books might suit her but eventually you settle on one.

The Castletop Girls is a collection of short stories about a group of girls sent away to be tutored in all things a young noble lady should know – etiquette, cooking, embroidery, running a household and so on. Each is a very lonely girl and unwilling to open up to the others but the adventures they have together teach them the value of having friends. They learn how to trust one another, why it's important to help one another, to spot false friends and how to tell when a friend is in need but won't admit it – or doesn't know it.

You read the stories when you were much younger, and looking back, you realise that the old wizard who lent it to you must have seen the same thing you see in Safire: A girl too scared to make friends, and not knowing how to either.

Placing your purchases in your bag, you take one long look around the bookshop, before leaving, with your friends at your side. You'll present the book to Safire later, when you're in private. Out in public she might not know how to react. Safire and Anlanesa don't buy anything – Safire doesn't seem to know what to buy, and Anlanesa mentions she's saving her money for other things.

“Fine, fine!” you roll all three of your eyes at Anlanesa dramatically “we'll go and buy some clothes.”

Anlanesa gives you a satisfied smile but doesn't say anything as you grumble “I don't see why though, you barely wear any, in fact I think the only person who wears less than you is Chame....”

XXX

At the clothing store, the three of you take turns trying on different sorts of swimming clothes. There is a range of options available, all the way from full-body coverage to tiny straps that leave nothing to the imagination.

Anlanesa of course selects some of the smallest. The three of you are together in a small changing booth, with no mirrors to see what you look like, you're relying on each others views. Well, Nesa and Safire are – you can easily look at yourself by extending an eyestalk.

“You do know that the less you wear the more you'll be exposed to the sun” you point out “if we're at the beach all you'll do is burn in that.”

“So I'll make an ice shelter” says Anlanesa, waving a hand at you dismissively as she examines herself “it's not all about the heat you know – some of it is about attracting attention. You could do with a smaller one yourself.”

You examine your own outfit – covering you from collarbone to mid-thigh it protects your fair skin from the sun whilst leaving enough of your shoulders exposed to display as many eyestalks as you want.

“I think Cleya looks fine” says Safire, having chosen for herself something not too dissimilar to her everyday clothes – a long robe that could double as a monks habit – even in the changing booth she is covered from head to toe, only leaving her face free.

Your outfit is practical, but hers is practically a tent...

“Don't you think that's a little much?” you ask Safire.

Anlanesa snorts, murmuring something about hypocrisy, you ignore her.

Safire looks uncertain “Really?” she asks, looking up at you.
>>
“Well for starters” you say “how will you swim in that?”

“Oh” says Safire, looking down “I don't know how to swim.”

“We'll teach you” Anlanesa offers “but that outfit needs to go, how about this?” she holds up a one-piece outfit in front of Safire that would cover everything important, but leave her arms and legs bare.

Safire looks at it in confusion “as underwear?” she asks.

“As everything” Anlanesa says.

Safire blinks, looks down at the swimsuit, looks up at Anlanesa, then down at the swimsuit, then her gaze snaps up to Anlanesa's encouraging expression, eyes going wide as Safire finally understand what she's saying “b-b-b-but” stammers Safire “everyone would be able to see!”

“That's the point” you say to her gently “to show off.”

Anlanesa makes another 'totally-not-meant-to-be-heard comment of “wizard heed thine own advice.”

“I couldn't!” exclaims Safire, adding in a much quieter tone “could I?”

“It suits you” you say to Safire, putting an arm on her shoulder, she flinches slightly when you touch her, but doesn't try to get away.

Looking down at the swimsuit she asks again “really?”

“Yes” you say “try it on.”

Safire screws up her face, looking unsure.

“Look” you say “how about I try one something a bit smaller too?”

You try on a one-piece that is very similar to the one Anlanesa has offered to Safire...except it sits a lot lower on your shoulders, and exposes your middle, whilst technically being a single item.

Emboldened by your example Safire tries on the swimsuit, but keeps her arms tightly wrapped around herself, as if she can conceal herself.

“No, no no” admonishes Anlanesa “Let's see you.” She gently pulls Safire's arms away from her and says “there, perfect, you look very cute.”

“Do I?” asks Safire, looking down at her semi-translucent body.

“Of course you do” Anlanesa says firmly “doesn't she Cleya?”

“Absolutely” you agree, nodding “She's going to be a real gem when she grows up.”

With enough encouragement, Safire is ready to buy her suit. Once she and Anlanesa have bought their outfits you present yours to the shop assistant and when she tells you the price.

“Oh no!” you say in mock-dismay, hands going to your cheeks “why I'd love to buy this but I'm just a few coins short, such a shame.”

Anlanesa gives you a thoughtful look, hands her bag off to Safire and heads over, laying some money on the counter “call it an early birthday present” she says. Damn, ah well, it was worth a try...

“And” Anlanesa says “she'll take the see-through one as well” pointing to a copy of the same swimsuit made of semi-translucent cloth. You hear a loud gasp, only to realise that was you. That bitch! Why are you even friends with her? Seeing your expression sends Anlanesa into fits of giggles. There is no way you are ever going to wear that one!

Tomorrow there will be several missions for the girls.

Several of the adventuring teams will attack the Witch King, hoping to bring him down (Defend mission).

The High Priest still needs dealing with (Attacking Mission).

There are rumours of a 'Chosen one' who will destroy the Witch King – you must find this prophesied hero and end him or her (Seek/Hunting Mission).

And...a local school wants to get in on the action – to prove how evil you are, you'll be attacking an 'orphanage' and wiping out all of the residents. Or rather, spending your time playing hide and seek with the kids, but same thing, right? (Comfy/Low-Difficulty Mission)

Yep. They're fairly unlikely to change at this point unless I find a mistake and I have to correct it, but suggestions are still extremely welcome because XP racks up constantly.

I can post the spending now if you want, but be aware that it does get confusing at times due to discounts changing in the middle fairly frequently and most girls having 3+ different types of not-XP to spend. Deliberately avoided overoptimization too, trying to find a balance of power between the girls.

I don't have too much of a preference as long as it makes sense with their character.

So far opinion seemed to be something like:
Cleya - Divination or Transmutation
Safire - Evocation or Transmutation
Janrael - Abjuration
Tisania - Illusion

If I had to break the two that are split, I'd give Cleya Divination and Safire Transmutation.

>>46867659
Not automatically, but it's a cheap power they can buy. Nevyn is pretty fast on land in Beast Form due to being a huge cat monster, so either her or one of the fliers with Speed (1st rank spell) cast on them..
