QM is a sissy that passes out edition

Before I begin, I would like to apologize for leaving you guys out in the cold. I passed out and let the thread die. It is easier for me to do the quest at a certain time. So starting from this page, I will start at around 6 PM Central burger time. Again, I apologize for the tardiness.

Welcome to the third part of our Warcraft quest. We are Anlec Falconcrest, third son of Lord Falconcrest who left home and sailed to distant Stormwind to become a brother in the Brotherhood of the horse. You fought against the Orcish horde in the first and second war, and returned home to find your lands in a mess. Your kingdom had rebelled against the alliance and you found yourself as the Lord Falconcrest.

It falls to you now to make alterac ascendant as you are caught in a crossfire of treachery and politics. Can you ensure that the Eagle Rises once more?

Pic related is the map.

Your rulership is the thriving town of Strahnbrad and it's hinterlands. The harvests are largely plentiful now, a far cry from nearly two years ago when you had to sign a humiliating treaty with the Hillsbrad towns to secure food for your people

The encircled area are the hinterlands that feed your town and in times past supplied the fortress of Falcon's Rest as well. Falcon's Rest is the closest fortress to Strahnbrad, and is marked with a blue block. It is also the ancestral seat of your house.
Recently you led an expedition to retake the ancient fortress after the Alliance forces had begun to pull out of Alterac proper.

The further Fortress is Eagle's Perch. It is still being held by alliance forces under the command of Lord Othmar Garithos. Your negotiations with him went rather poorly, and he has vowed to return and arrest you and your militia for 'insurrection'.
>>
Last time, you had managed to convince the rulers of Dalaran that there was a threat that was demonic in origin, to Alterac. They had responded by sending two extremely powerful mages to aid you.

These mages were also high ranking members of their kind, and part of the Council of Six, the hidden, mystical group that rules the city of mages. One of them was the Prince Kael'Thas Sunstrider, Heir to the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas, and a poweful ally.

To your embarrassment, you were quite drunk at your first meeting and you insulted him and the Archmage Modera. Luckily for you, your apologies mollified them, and they set out with your cavalry to end the threat from the syndicate and the argus wake once and for all.

You enter the alterac valley and find that the orcs and traitorous humans have ganged up on a smaller group of orcs and were close to wiping them out. At the request of the mages, you ended up rescuing the orcs and enter into parley with them. Archmage Modera translates and you find out that the traitorous humans and their orcish allies are worshipping demons, and your brother leads the remnants of your family's troops.
>>
The parley goes off to a rocky start. The Wolfish orcs don't like you and describe your brother as a monster rather than a man. If these brutes think your brother is a monster, then he is truly lost.
>>
I am going to this interaction again.Apologies to anyone who voted for it first.

The orc said something to modera, and when she didn't translate you felt something was suspicious.

She turns around and looks at you, her face full of surprise. "The chieftain demands that you tell him what you did during the war. He says that he will sense when you are lying, and a warrior brings shame to his ancestors by lying about those he kills."

"I will, if he is willing to tell me where the Argus wake is."

You don't need a translator to tell you what the grunt means. What he says next is far more interesting,

"He says that these other orcs and men are no friends of his. He will send his warriors alongside you, and fight them, If you answer his query truthfully. How many orcs did you kill during the wars between our peoples?"

>answer bluntly

You have no time for this. If the orc wants to know how many of his kind you killed, you will answer. No need to lie or embellish the numbers.

"Not nearly as many as I wanted to. But that is life, all of us suffer from disappointment old one, but at the least, I made sure enough of your kind died to ensure victory. And here we are."

Modera translates, and you can see her face breaking into a sweat as she says the last two sentences. You do not mince words with orcs, and you definitely will not boast of how many you have killed with your hands. Warriors win brawls. Generals win wars. Physical prowess has nothing to do with it. Anduin Lothar would still be alive if he had listened.

The blind orc stares intently at your face for a few moments. You can swear that despite his useless eyes, he can see you. For a split second you swear that the wolf at the old one's feet is looking at you with eyes that are far more intelligent than an animals.

Then that moment passes, and the orc laughs. It dispels the latent hostility the orcs might have possessed towards your party, and you can see most of them smile. If you could call it that.

The old orc mutters something, and the biggest of the brutes steps forth. He towers over you.
Modera mutters something back.

"What did he say?" You ask

"He said that you spoke well. You didn't boast or belittle your accomplishments with words. You have the heart of a warrior."

You fight the urge to roll your eyes. Another idea springs to your mind. Your forces are still far away, and you need more bodies to combat the cultists. Maybe you can make use of these brutes.

"Modera, tell their chieftain that we are low on numbers."

"Your army will be approaching soon, they cannot be more than a few days away."

"And a few days is what the orcs will need to know that their cover is blown. We must be quick if we must stop them."

"Surely you can wait. I don't trust these orcs."

"Well, it was your idea to parley with them."

"Because I am interested in them professionally. We just need a few scouts and trackers to find their number"

You are not going to argue with her, she must see your side of the argument. If some dark powers are unleashed, it will be Alterac that shall suffer.

As politely as you can, you explain to modera what happens to alterac if the cultists succeed. You tell her that all you have done to bring the kingdom back to it's knees will be dust. Watching an army of demon infused orcs and humans in the colors of Alterac will condemn your people to being massacred.

She relays your message to the orc chieftain. You tell that the orcs have no love for your brother or his allies, and you don't have the forces to deal with him now. You tell them that they will taint the valley and kill all of you if you don't work together. You need warriors and they want revenge on your brother's forces.

It works on these simple brutes. The big orc wearing scrap mail and plate raises his axe and nearly the entire adult population in the encampment follows.

Modera looks at you with a bit of concern and says.
"They say they will fight with you"

"Excellent" You now have a proper army.

The valley seems to have been occupied by these orcs for more than a while, you reckon as the orcs lead you towards your destination.

The big orc, the one who is wearing scrap plates seems to be their leader. He is rather old, with his white beard. You notice that he is carryin a rusty sword now, which looks entirely impractical. The orcs seem to be deferential to him, and from the scraps Archmage Modera is able to translate, the orcs see him as the chieftain's personal assistant and their leader in matters of war.

Your men are nervous and your horses are skittish. The wolves that the orcs have brought with them are growling and slavering while they look at your horses. You make a mental note to keep them far away from the wolves. The men hate orcs, and being Alteraci, the slur of orc-pimps has not gone down well with them. They were not expecting this to happen, and only the promise that you plan to let the orcs bear the brunt of the melee has pacified them.

Prince Kael'Thas looks at them with hate that surprises you. You had not expected him to feel this enraged. On the other hand, elves didn't think like men. His land had been ravaged by the orcs. You had seen it with your own eyes. On the other hand, Rathaella is looking at them with her eyes full of wonder. You wonder if she had never seen them before. You notice - not for the - first time that surrounded by the snow cap peaks of the mountains, she looks heartbreakingly beautiful.

>>

>>46911111
You angle your horse closer to her. To anyone wondering, you can simply say that you are keeping your distance from the greenskins. She is still staring at them with her mouth slightly agape.

"Arcanist, how do you like our foray into Alterac valley so far?"

She takes a moment to respond to the question, those beautiful blue eyes locking into you as she replies, " I didn't know about this valley my lord. You never mentioned it."

"Ah yes, my lady. You see, this valley is largely worthless. The trees that grow here are not as mighty as the trees in the uplands beyond strahnbrad. There is little to no iron or gold here, and the land doesn't sustain too many people."

"And even so, it is so beautiful." As she says the last words, one of the wolves begin to growl at your rider. The man takes out his pistol and the two of you stare. Then an old orc wearing a wolf's pelt beckons the growling beast over, and the two go away from your column.

"Pardon me, my lady. But I think you haven't seen too many orcs before."

She nods. "I am only 80 years old my lord. I chose to pursue my studies in Dalaran instead of silvermoon, because I wanted to see more of the world. I lived in the windrunner lands and I was not there when..."

She doesn't need to say more. You were in Quel'Thalas and you knew what had happened. The elves had joined the war AFTER the place had been put to the sword by trolls and orcs. The brotherhood had died there as well.

"But you never saw the orcs? Even though you are a mage of Dalaran?"

"I was running errands for my master, Krasus and couldn't help in the upcoming conflict. The closest I had seen orcs was in chains at the internment camp, rebuilding Hillsbrad. Not like this. Not with wolves at their side and with weapons in their hands."

You remember the orcs using wolfriders during the assault of Grand Hamlet, but curiously, never saw any during the second war.

"You know, the first time we fought these orcs, I was not even a full brother in the brotherhood. I was squire to some man, me and someone named Morgan Ladimore. The orcs had run all the way to the gates of Stormwind and we took them in the side, crushing them from the field. They retreated into the swamps and we held them at bay. The year passed and I became a full knight."

She looks at you with some surprise. She had never asked you about yourself, and you didn't know why you were telling her this.

"I first fought the orcs on horseback when the town of Grand hamlet fell to them. They came in with these giant wolves to counter our cavalry, and we clashed in the field. It ended with neither side winning but the bulk of the orcs had destroyed the town by then. They were also present when Stormwind was burned to the ground, leading the way into the city. We were defending the docks and were among the last to leave. These wolves remind me of them, only their faces look more natural."

"My lord, I didn't know that- "

"Don't mention it. I fought at Quel'thalas and saw the Windrunner spire get overrun and all the civilians butchered. My heart feels sorrow at their passing, and the passing of my brothers who lie under the eaves of Quel'Thalas. At least they weren't possessed by dark Magics the orcs wield."

Modera's voice brings you back from your pleasant conversation. The orcs have reached the end of a cliff. They are pointing down and grunting. She translates.

"The cultists and humans have gathered down there. They are indulging in dark magic even now. I sense the corruption in the air. You were right. We couldn't have waited."

It would seem that the time for battle has come.

You scan your surroundings seeing that the enemy scarcely outnumber you. The human forces are deployed in a position that is far away from the orcs, and will cause your forces to split up. You want them to be lured out and destroyed piecemeal.

Alternatively, we could send out a small party to draw attention/fire from enemies and then have them get chased to a killzone.
>>
>>46912194
The orcs are encamped in a temporary settlement, and don't have any defences whatsoever.
The humans have a regular battlefield encampment, but nothing permanent. They are separated by a lake that has been frozen over. you may know it as the center of the AV battlefield. The humans are on the left side (alliance side) and the orcs are on the right

Your plan is relatively simple. Your riders will feint a charge at the human encampment, drawing them towards you. Then your riders will start pulling back towards where the orcs are hiding, all the while skirmishing with the traitors. When they are far away from their encampment, the wolfriders will sweep in hem them in, crushing the human forces utterly.

It falls to the trio of mages to beat back the orcish army, or to hold them off at least before you can come to their aid. To this effect, the ageing orc with the platemail trousers is to lead his warriors against them. There is a slight problem with your plan however. There is no way you can communicate with the wolfriders. Once they are told of the plan, there will be no going back.

Your horses break the cover of the wintry pines, and start galloping towards the human encampment. The side along the frozen lake doesn't have any defenses and your pistoliers deftly stay out of range, peppering the men inside with volley after volley of lead. The response from the outpost is lackluster, and your men do a number on the house troops. The few cavalrymen they have are gunned down as they try to organize a charge.

The camp raises itself. They are form up in a column and charge towards your skirmishers. The men begin retreating over the ice. with the, following. Before long you are running towards the center of the lake with the incensed enemy in full pursuit. Then the wolfriders break from their cover and charge. The slavering beast's howls send a shiver down your back as the column is flanked and destroyed utterly. The orcs have no love for them, and no quarter is given

The battle against the orcish encampment is not going so well. The elves and the orcs have got stuck in with their forces, and you see the mages trying to perform magic, but spending more time countering spells coming from the enemy. Perhaps these are the warlocks that are trying to undo Alterac.

You turn your eyes away from the carnage, The mages might need your assistance. Benedict blows a sharp call on his clarion and your men form up. The horses are breathing deep in the cold air. They need to rest, but they seem to have enough for a charge before you can let them withdraw and let the poor beasts rest. The cavalry follows your lead and the banner of the Falconcrests flows brightly in the breeze as your horses begin to gallop, preparing to strike at the overextended side of the Argus Wake forces.
Even as you do so, you hear Kael'Thas' voice carrying over to you. He is telling you to be hasty, the orcs are going to overrun them soon, and the warlocks are preparing to summon demons.

Your horsemen fire round after round of shot at the weakened flanks of the orcs, killing hundreds of the beasts, The line cracks, with a part falling backward towards where the warlocks are, and the majority of them pushing forward. They have opened a gap for your cavalry to charge into

Unless we can guarantee a total victory by killing Otto and key leaders its best to keep our heroes alive.

>>

You will be damned if any one of the mages gets hurt on your watch. Especially Rathaella. She is by far the weakest of the mages and you doubt she can escape in one piece. You do not wish to find out. Your pistol fires at the back of an orc wearing a human skull for an earring and you draw your sword.

A final crack sounds as your riders fire at the orcs, and at that moment, the the ice on the far side of the battle shatters. The orcs are wavering, and as your men charge into them with their swords drawn, their line breaks utterly. All semblance of cohesion is gone as you ride the brutes downward, pushing towards the mages. It seems like you are back at the first siege of Stormwind, watching from above as the brotherhood breaks the brutes upon their mounts.

The melee is chaotic, and you nearly kill a few of the wolfish orcs. They begin howling and cheering when the Prince walks up to you. You can see that he is livid.

"What are you doing foolish man, I told you to attack the warlocks instead of trying to play the dashing hero. You may have doomed us all"

An inhuman yell comes from the place where the warlocks were. The orcs there are rejoicing and slamming their axes and shields. Even as you watch, the ground grows green and a portal opens up. What looks like a thousand screaming heads pour forth from it and begin circling the battlefield. The horses begin to get spooked and some of the men are borne away by the madness. You see a shape emerge from the portal and hold up a human. Even as you watch, its essence seeps into the humand and it grows horns and it's feet become cloven hooves.

"WE ARE RETURNED TO THIS WORLD ONCE AGAIN!" The screams make your ears bleed, and then it passes away. The demon has been summoned. You are too late. Prince Kael'Thas was right. Your forces now have to fight a demon.

You look at the prince, a little bemused. Fighting demons was a little over your rank and pay. Your men are terrified for the most part. You hope they won't break and run away.

"My lord, what do you suggest we do?" You ask in your most diplomatic voice. Inwardly you think that you have no clue.

"I require time human, keep them busy, especially the demon and we shall destroy it. Archmage modera, perhaps we should withdraw to a some distance and start the spell?"

"So do you want me to to kill it, or do you?" Kael's grin tells Modera who is going to be passive in this encounter. She sighs and mutters something about boys being boys.

"What about Rathaella?" You ask.

"She really isn't strong enough. You are better off with her in your forces keeping the orcs at bay." So Kael didn't think much of her.

You organize your men, and check your ammunition. You have enough to fire a few shots but then must rely on cold steel. Once this is done, you should look into arming your men with heavier armor. The battle begins and your men begin to fall back, skirmishing with the orcs. The wolfish orcs have withdrawn for the most part and have formed a circle around the two archmagi. Rathaella blasts a few holes in the ice and you watch small parts of the orcish forces go down into the deeps of the lake, food for the fish. To your concern, she is breathing heavily and nearly falls off her horse twice, with you having to support her.

The Demon is leading the charge, and to your horror, you recognize that voice. It is General Hath who is yelling at you. He is challenging you

"You left us all boy, to go off gallivanting elves. You brought dishonor to us all. You had to become a hero didn't you?

I let the gates open and let the orcs in. I let the gates open and I let Trollbane in, and I was the most honorable man in Alterac? What gives you the right? You made me turn into this boy!" You look at the man with pity and see the truth in his words. He was headed to a comfortable grave with Alterac. The kingdom would die with him, and he would be the last bright spot in a land forsaken by the light. You wondered when he had fallen. Maybe in time you could pierce that mystery. For now you had to distract him.

You order your cavalry to back off and away from the marauding orcs. Instead of following them, you stand still before the demon, before bursting out into carefully feigned laughter.

"We all know why you fell Hath. They were not wrong when they said your mother was a sewer rat and your father smelt like elderberries."

Even as you finish saying that, the demon moves towards you with an enraged yell. You may have bit off a little more than you could chew.

For a demon, general Hath fights rather poorly. You cross blades for a while, taking care to dodge the thing where you can. Flaming axes won't be stopped by steel plate as far as you can tell. You casually toy with him, dodging his blows and suddenly, the Hath Thing leaves' its side unguarded as it tries to parry the blow. Seeing the exposed side you push your sword in with all your might, and see it do nothing.

Of course. How silly of you. Demons must be immune to non consecrated weaponry. The hath-demon begins to return, his strokes aimed at your face, becoming faster all the time. This continues for an awful eternity and you, beyond all expectations are able to parry the last few blows. Thank light for muscle memory.

However you are becoming tired. You cannot keep this up for any longer. The archmages are taking their sweet time while you fight for your life.

>Combat roll: success
The demon unleashes a barrage of axe strokes and cuts that are much too fast than they should be. Your adrenaline rush is wearing off, and you begin to feel more and more tired.

You stumble over and fall as the demon pushes into you with all it's unholy strength. This is it, this is the end. Even as it raises the axe to decapitate you, you feel a warm rush of air coming from behind you. A fiery chunk of rock flows past you and crashes into the demon, and it staggers back. Even as it does so, it begins to howl, and you see it is becoming more transparent.

Another series of magical barrages crash into it and yelling a hair raising cry, the demon finally vanishes.

The sounds of battle finally reach you. Your horse. Over the din, you can hear the trumpet ringing as Benedict leads the cavalry to crush into the orcs. They must have run out of powder and shot. You barely manage to sit up when a shadow falls over you.

It is Rathaella and she is holding the reins of her horse. "Are you alright? Anlec, can you hear me?" Her voice, generally so calm and collected is surprisingly emotional. Her face hovers over yours and as if for the first time, you notice how breathtakingly beautiful those blue-green eyes are.

>reach out to her to take her hand and get up.

"Loud and clear." Although you mangle the words.

You try to get up, and find out that you need a hand. "Come on, help me up dear. We don't have all day." She obliges, and as you take her hand in yours, you think that wearing armor might have been a mistake.

You look all around you and see the battle ending. The cavalry is running down the fleeing orcs. The warlocks are being captured and dragged before the magi, and you see the orcs with with wolf pelts on their heads and the magi talking. The walk towards the mages is long and you feel like every bone in your body is out of place. This time, Rathaella supports you, and you are glad of the fact.

As you approach closer, the orcs forming a circle around the mages let you through, nodding grimly and a few of them help you down from the horse. This is perhaps the strangest thing that has happened to you all day.
Modera and Kael are talking to the orcs with the wolf pelts. Of the warlocks there is no sight.

As far as you can tell, the orcs in the wolf pelts are revered by the rank and file greenskins. Yet they are old for the most part and you can swear none of them actually fought in the battle. Perhaps the orc elders wear them.

Rathaella confirms your suspicion. They are orcs that are some of the oldest she has heard about. From what little she heard before she went looking for you, several of them had entered Azeroth before the first war even began.

As far as the mages can tell, the orcs barely have any of the lethargy that the interned orcs in Dalaran or in Stromgarde are showing. Modera is rather interested in them. Apparently, she and Archmage Antonidas had 'academic disagreements' over the nature of orcs.

Now that the battle is over, it would be a good time to go and see the human encampment. Even as you turn to leave, you notice Kael'thas has several glowing orbs around his belt and holds in a gloved hand, an artifact that makes your eyes hurt.

(man. you guys really love otto huh?)

You thank Rathaella for carrying you here, and mount your horse again. The ringing in your head is getting worse, and you feel as though you might have a concussion. You remember Otto must be out there somewhere. Most of the forces that left the keep were of House Hath and House Perenolde. Otto must have been left to hold the encampment, and the wolf riders had made straight for it

The ride back there makes you feel terrible. Benedict and some of the riders choose to accompany you. Your head feels like a horse kicked it and you want to fall asleep. You most definitely have a concussion.

The wolf riders move respectfully to one side as you approach the outpost. Inside are scenes of slaughter. The household troops have been massacred and even now the wolves are devouring the corpses.

Once in a while, you come across the face of a person you knew once, and your heart nearly stops as you see the quartermaster who gave you a dirk to wave around when you were five. It was blunt, but it made you feel like a mighty adventurer. He is being eaten by a wolf and even as you watch, an orc takes his head off and puts it in a bag.

The orcs point you towards the center. You know that you will find him there. Big brother otto who dreamed and sang more often than studied. You see him beaten and defiant, but still alive. Eyes that had showered you with kindness now look on in hate.

This is perhaps the most heartbreaking thing you have seen today. The old orc points towards Otto, and runs a finger across his throat. It has to be you.

Harder for him to come back from the dead as a zombie

>Ask him why he views you as a traitor.
>Ask him what happened to him on the other side of the portal and how he got back.
>Tell him to choose his words carefully, for they may very well be the last words attributed to him.

Before we kill him (unless we find a reason from talking to him not to.) let him know that we've done more in his absence rebuilding and our nation that he has. The eagle rises!
>>
You bend and slowly brush his hair back, much like he brushed yours all those years ago. Your faces were quite similar, and you wondered if the paths of fate were different, if you and him would switch positions.

"What drove you to this, brother? Why did you throw your lot in with demons? You were the best of us. I looked up to you all my life. My big brother, who knew so much, and learned so little. What drove you to this?"

A tear falls from his eye, then another. then he makes a strange clacking sound. Is he repentant? Is he crying tears of remorse?

Then it hits you, a spray of spittle and blood. Your brother is laughing silently at this, making that disgusting clacking noise. His eyes roll over and he coughs out some more blood. You nod to the old orc, and he puts a booted foot on your brother's back and his head held over a small chest.

You raise your sword. Your brother is long dead and gone. You will not tell this crazed cultist all you have done. It would be an insult to the man your brother was.

"Farewell Otto, may the falcons fly thee to thy rest."

You swing the sword.
>>
Sunset over the mountains is always a beautiful sight and you take comfort in it. You are sitting some distance away from the outpost. The wolfish orcs have come again and Otto's head is on a spike. A month ago, you would be boiling with rage. Now you don't know what to feel. You had found your brother. You wished now you hadn't.

You hear the sound of footsteps crunching the light snow behind you. You turn around to see the mages there. Along with them is the old blind orc and the orc who seems to be his caretaker.

The orc growls something. Modera translates.
"Chieftain Drek'Thar thanks you for killing their foes, Lord Anlec."

You nod, too choked for words.

She continues, "He says that the spirits sense that you fought with honor, and fought a fight worthy of song."

"And to what end? My brother lies dead. The man I looked up to as a paragon of a soldier turned into a demon and accused me of bringing ruin to Alterac. My soldiers have abandoned the halls of my forefathers for no real purpose. When they return, they will kill the orcs, and drag me back to Alterac in chains. The Falconrest line is at an end."

Modera translates that, and you are sure you can understand some of the growls now.

Drek'thar says something that modera hears for a while before translating.

"Drek'thar says that the spirits are not done with you yet, young pu- Lord Falconrest. For good or for ill, you have helped the frostwolves in their hour of need, and saved the lives of his people. They shall not forget you."

"Small comfort. Don't translate that, tell him I said thank you." You feel utterly drained. You see the encampment your men have thrown up, at a distance away from the slaughter. A bed would be welcome.
Even as you do, you watch Rathaella surrounded by a gaggle of orc children. She seems to be entertaining them with magical tricks, much to their amusement.

You wait for her to finish. In truth you are mesmerized by the dancing lights as much as the children are. You have been through a lot lately, and this is perhaps the prettiest distraction you have ever seen. The way the lights dance about her head make her look magical, in a way completely unrelated to the arcane. You had wanted to be a mage once, but you had the magical capability of a pebble. And riding horses was far more fun any way.

As you watch her, you fall into a daze and are half way asleep when a small voice wakes you up. Rathaella is sitting by you, watching the frozen lake along with you. Suddenly your mouth is far more dry than before and you don't know what to say.

I seem to hard a really poor reading comprehension for this thread.

I suppose when something important comes up, give a little bit of reinforcement ie. repeat it to drive home that this bit of information is important, maybe add some extra details to it to give it a sense of how the character views his options.

We should be to be able to see what our guy sees, feel or know what his option is and what he is thinking, to give us a sense of what hes going through, and act accordingly.

The view for us is suppose to be in first person but alot of the times the descriptions story, and choice of words feels like its in second person, which can be disconnecting at times.

Lastly I suppose the passage time inbetween posts and threads shifts alot instead of a few days to a week its next day here, and then a few months later there. I would like it if you put in the first sentence or paragraph how much time has passed, and prepare the reader for larger jumps in time at the end of a post. The reason why is that it can be slightly jarring or disruptive to the reader to find that what seemed like the next day or week from your last post turns out to be over a year. When reading post after post the flow of the action tends to make things seem like they happened shortly after one another.

Sorry it should read like:
Lastly I suppose the passage of time inbetween posts and threads shifts inconsistently alot. Instead of a few days to a week, it is sometimes day by day one moment, then jumps to several weeks/months the next.

I didn't proof read it properly.

She is sitting right beside you. Behind her you can see the campfire from your men's encampment glowing brightly. She looks enchanting in the way the firelight bounces off the back of her head, making it look like a halo surrounding her face. Something out of a bard's song or a master artist's painting. There is only one word for it
"Beautiful." Light preserve you, why did you have to have to say that out loud.

"Hmm?" She turns around and looks at you, her eyes staring straight at you.

"The lake. It is beautiful isn't it?" You say, your voice perhaps a tad quicker than you would like.

"Yes, yes it is. Nature, unspoilt for the most part."

"Except us."

"Except us." She smiles and you quickly look away hoping you don't blush.

The two of you are silent for a few more moments, only the sounds of the orcs coming from the encampment.
"You haven't seen too many orcs before have you?" It is less of a question and more of a statement.

"Little and less, before we came here." Her voice is a bit quicker too, you notice. You are careful not to look directly at her.

"So, what do you think of them?"

"Of whom An- Lord Falconcrest."

"Please, you saved my life there on the ice. You are on first name terms with me."

"Prince Kael'Thas slew the demon, and Archmage Modera bound him, my lord. I was simply-"

"-hurling giant balls of fire as the demon moved to give me a troll haircut? I spoke to them both. The spell was yours."

"Maybe it was, that doesn't mean anything at all. I simply didn't want you to.."

She leans in close to you as you walk back with her along the shores of the frozen lake. Mostly in silence. From time to time you let her walk ahead of you, just so you can admire her. You notice how her footsteps on the snow barely leave an impression while yours reach all the way down to the soil.

The third time she does that, you act like you are exhausted and make a show of catching your breath. She turns around and walks over to you and leans in, holding your arm.

"My lord Fal- Anlec, are you alright?"

"I am fine. Just tired, my lady. Being knocked about by demons makes me tired. If only I were a mage like you."

"You have remarkable discipline. To stand toe to toe against a demon from the nether would have broken most elves. You would make a fine mage."

You burst out laughing at that. She is sincere enough in her praise. That makes her pout, those perfect crimson lips twisting in an inviting manner.

Before she can say anything, you pick a pebble up. "Discipline might be one thing, my lady. But I am about as magically adept as this pebble."

Then you skip it over the frozen surface of the lake watching it slide over the ice.

The two of you walk back to the camp, talking of little but how the valley is beautiful. The soliders salute you and let you in.

You can see the men eating a hearty meal of mutton, Alterac stout and bacon. The smell makes your stomach rumble. Benedict hasn't eaten anything, and before you say a word, he stands up and beckons you over to where the archmages are sitting.

You drop in beside benedict, and the two of you eat their meal in silence for the most part, except talking about how well the meat was salted. It feels good to be back in the life of a soldier. Hard aches at the end of the day, and a belly full of meat, bread, cheese and beer. The fight has taken a lot out of you, and you eat an amount that surprises you. When it is all done, you burp and the men around you do so likewise.

The men have come along well, and you have trained them in a manner that would do your old masters proud. You have lost only a few horsemen, and they have been buried near the camp. You hope that they find peace in the afterlife.

After you are done eating, benedict looks at you, and asks you how you feel.

"Like horse excrement, Benedict, and I doubt I will feel better tomorrow either."

"Good, then we can deal with our current problem right now then. No need to put it off until later." You know exactly what he is talking about.

"What do you suggest Benedict."

"I don't know, two days ago, I would have told you to kill the lot."

"And now?"

"I don't know. They are greenskins but they didn't attack us. I don't wanna be the man who backstabs them."

"On the other hand, when the militia arrives, what do we tell them? That another Falconcrest is hobnobbing with orcs? They will take my head and present it to Isiden on a platter."

You keep discussing the problem throughout the night, and forget about sleep. The sound of a rising bird brings you back to your attention. Only half a dozen of you are still awake, benedict among them. All the drinking you had done while talking has made you hammered, and you realize that you were discussing someone's ma rear doors for the last hour. Then suddenly the idea hits you as you fall asleep.
