And so it has come to my attention that a Quest Board has been released. But I would like to officiate that Skirmishes are indeed not Quests for the f ollowing reasons;

1. Multiple player participation with clear rules and responsibilities with story and original content that is contingent on gameplay and player actions. Benefiting from the formal definitions of a game.

2. Rulesets and clear guidelines of play effectively classifying Skirmishes as prototype boardgames that use a digital format.

furthermore despite there being a narrative to Skirmishes, the definition of a quest differentiates itself from tabletop games and wargames for the following reason;

1. It is ultimately a collaborative storytelling event with content driven features where the audience en masse acts as a single player participant. And the rules and actions of the universe is not determined in clear terms

2. In its current incarnation, Quests lack visual assets, a self contained set of rules that could be reproduced by a different QM and ultimately relies on an author to arbitrarily decide the content set forth by audience participation.

3. It is vulnerable to player politics. Something a skirmish game will never be.

4. Whereas a skirmish would be more akin to a tabletop Game with multiple players, a Quest would be more similar to a theater production with a verbal 4th wall.

stacks of heat will get used on the very next pyromancies regardless. The only control is how many [Stacks] it can use.

Stacks: You gain one partitionable stack for every casting of Heat you perform. stack one could gain 3 heat and stack two could gain 7 but now becomes 10 dice that can be split into usage castings. A common analogy would be;
" You gain 10 gallons of gas but only have two matches "

Casting one could use 4 dice of heat while casting two would use the remaining 6. Heat can be held indefinitely otherwise - but could lead to problems when damaged with another spell or specific damage type.

As the game is still in it's [test] infancy balancing measures will take effect on the next [Campfire]

-Movement Speed will be recalibrated to
[Spd/2] +2.
Citing that MOV stat's over dependence on spd makes spd too powerful a stat especially for a flat effect like movement. [you dont roll for movement for example.] Causing the world to descale in size and trivializes much of the map.
Furthermore the disparity in player stats makes this glaringly obvious. WIth this adjustment, however characters who rolled 1, 3, 6 , and 10 spd would have 3, 4, 5, and 7 Mov respectably, which is far less jarring than 3, 5, 8, and 12, but still preserves the relative benefits of each highly rolled stat.

It is possible to have this balancing patch take effect as soon as next thread OR
next phase with [player consensus].
Similarly this change applies to enemies, save for the banshee - whose mov stat is modified positively by the amount of wounds she has suffered.

Character generation needs to be changed. Some characters benefit too much from lucky rolls while others are just unlucky. And since everything boils down to dicepools, this is bad precedent.

Drop the exploding d6s, double the class inherited bonuses.

Rethink the approach of "Haha dead" traps and enemies. It doesn't work very well with the system as presented. If its about dice pools, tactics and teamwok it is unfortunate that so many things result in "No, you lose". Melia got instant killed by an enemy that just appeared, and because "this attack targets end" had no possible defense. Assassins just popped out of a gate in the wall no one could otherwise see or interact with. Suddenly it's dark and defenses don't work. Drop the idea of match sets targetting specific stats and drop the idea of match sets doing armor ignore damage, save it for special items and maybe bosses.

Ranged vs melee needs changes. Assassins and knights and wylders in melee take damage in droves because they need to move close, then attack (or move close, then defend). Then the enemy gets 2 attacks against a reachable target. Because you roll dice pools to attack and to defend, you do not want to be the person rolling defense. But the system as is forces you to do that.

Meanwhile Longbow Wylders, Clerics and Wizards get range 8-14, more or same damage than melee and no fear of retaliation because they are out of range.

Make ranged attacks hit on 5-6 and melee on 4,5,6. This means ranged is still perfectly viable, but means if you get in melee with a sword you also benefit. Or double the proficiency bonus for melee attacks.

Defenses are a bit odd? It seems the targets you defend against are either
A) so weak your defense nullifies their attacks
B) So strong your defense is 12 dice vs 20 and wasted
C) Enemy might roll lucky "bypass" match.
D) In melee the enemy waks around your defence

I'd drop directionality and just make it "vs first attack".

Armor defenses proc automatically with every hit. Additional defensive moves on top of that act as a first layer of defense to this constant. You do not automatically get damaged when it happens further damage mitigation occurs and is rolled against successes. So even if you have 5 armor you are not rolling against 10 attack dice, you are rolling against the average "five" successes that result.

This isn't so much of a problem their class stats set them up to be pretty frail when they do take damage.

This is a good start for weighing the two but i try my best not to alter dice "shades" save for special rolls. As a counterbalance, most ranged setups require two sets of stats to make work. A range stat, and a potency stat, let's say. As opposed to melee setups that just use the one.

Spd can be a pretty OP stat. Particularly with Lowly Upbringing, some of which probably would become more apparent down the road -granted, assuming they survive long enough. But it gives a particular edge.

Ranged vs Melee, I had randomly thought about that earlier today. It can get kind of crazy but it might be just the wide spread of values that's really making it stand out.

That said, I don't really have a problem with random stat generation.

Anon mentioned instant death. Yeeeah, that kind of sucked but it's somewhat in that Dark Souls spirit but I don't know if there's really a chance of returning here. Not that I'd return with Milea anyway. Also it might mess with the whole PvP thing with grudges lasting 5everrr. Souls are absorbed (and used) anyway, so I guess there might be room later for various things on what can be done with them.

I might however consider changing the nature of matches. Or rather systematizing them further where ultra kill moves like Impale, Execute, and KingSlayer are on the match5 tier with options to mix and match with weapons that have the right kind.

But so far with the data I've come up with;
-Impales are only truly dangerous if damage mitigation fails but in the end, ENDURANCE damage still leaves players in barely good shape afterwards.
- Execute only works under specific circumstances that might not be easy to reproduce.
- Matches that focus on doing just as much damage are just as desireable as weakpoint hitters, debuffers etc.
