You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

"An excellent job, Captain!" Frolaytia laughs heartily, her holographic projection fizzling a bit as she does so. "A number of valuable prisoners freed, and a bloody nose sent to the Hegemony! Quite the haul for one of your first assignments!"

"Thank you." You nod, still a bit anxious about your sister Carly being out there somewhere.

"Keep this up, and you might be in for a promotion already!" Frolaytia cackles, setting aside her pipe. "However, you seem a bit troubled. Is something the matter?"

Shit, was it that obvious?

You wonder if you should tell your commanding officer about Carly and how she was apparently a pirate. She might help but... that knowledge might also put you in hot water. Elizabeth was already kind enough to keep it quiet on her own end, most likely for her own reasons, so you didn't have to worry about word getting out from that end...

You decide not to tell her for now. As Elizabeth said, this info was on a need to know basis and nobody outside your crew really needed to know right now.

"No, nothing's wrong." You shake your head. "Just a bit tired."

"Hmmm, understandable." Frolaytia nods. "If that's the case, perhaps you should head back to port and take some time off? Or are you in the mood to range out again?

Well, some leave time would be a nice break for your crew but... Carly was out there, and you didn't want to waste a second. You really wanted to find her...

"Actually, I think we've still got a bit of fight in us." You try to force a smile to reassure Frolaytia. "I was wondering if there was need for us to range into Confederate territory?"

"Oh, feeling rather adventurous, are we?" Frolaytia gives a sly grin. "Well, we currently don't have any particular need to stir up trouble with the Confederacy, especially with the Hegemony starting to beat its chest along our border. I mean, there's nothing stopping you from venturing into Confederate space on your own discretion, but just know that since you won't be operating under the auspices of an official mission, you won't be getting any official Accord support..."

"I don't mind." You grin. "There's something I need to investigate there, anyways."

"Do you? Well, best of luck, then." Frolaytia grins. "Hopefully I don't hear of your exploits in the news. You know how Command reacts to reports of Accord ships operating in foreign space."

"Of course." You nod.

"Well, since you're going to be the area, I suppose there's a few... 'private' assignments you can take." Frolaytia shrugs. "They're by certain 'interested parties', and not necessarily sanctioned by Accord Command. Still, they're offering quite a bit in payment, if that's your thing."

"Send them over. I might find something interesting." You shrug.

"Of course, of course!" Frolaytia nods as she taps some keys offscreen. "There! Everything's been sent over! Good luck!"

"Thanks." You say as the hologram finally fizzles out.

"Captain, we've got some incoming data from Command." Bradford announces. "You might want to take a look at these."

"Sure thing." You nod as you active your tactical display, which begins directly feeding data to you.

BOUNTY: A Confederate captain known as Amner Lee has allegedly been raiding Accord settlements and outposts. While no hard evidence can be linked to him, an rather large insurance company that has preferred to stay anonymous has offered a generous payout to anybody who confirm the destruction of him and his ship, the Shenandoah. Reward will be a weapon upgrade.

ASSET RECOVERY: One of the Confederate agri-worlds is boasting the discovery of a revolutionary new crop that can be grown in various harsh planetary environments. A certain biotech company would like a sample for their own purposes. Reward will be an infirmary upgrade.

You do note that these missions where time sensitive. If you were to go straight to searching for Carly, you'd probably miss the opportunity to take them on.

You open up the Asset Recovery mission and start poring over the more specific mission details. It looks like the Confederate agricultural world of New White Haven had stumbled upon a crop that could grow in a wide range of atmospheric conditions. Extremely useful for companies interested in colonial expansion.

Obviously, the crop was highly protected, with most living examples of it being kept in secure compounds and labs on the planet's surface. That wasn't even beginning to get into how the planet itself was guarded by a pretty sizeable Confederate fleet. One cruiser, three destroyers, and a half dozen corvettes. This would be an iffy one, for sure.

"Bradford, set a course for New White Haven." You instruct your First Officer.

"Aye, Captain." Bradford nods. "Amy, you heard her."

"Yeah, yeah, I'm doing it." Amy sighs as she punches in the coordinates. "It's pretty far out, so it'll probably take several hours until we get there."

"I see." You nod.

Well, I was thinking that most of the damage would be based on the metal tumbling through the structure of the ship, so I guess it depends on how big the ship is, and how well armored it is (don't want to overpenetrate).

I guess it depends on what you want. Normally (on a planet with gravity and using solid projectiles), you'd want to make sure you get the right amount of penetration to cause tumbling or shatters when it penetrates damaging lots of vital components or crew. Too much penetration, and it goes in one end and out the other without damaging too many components.
Liquid projectiles are another matter entirely since it's rather fluid.
>>
>>47014275
Then again, the liquid beams of the Thanix Cannon are only held together by mass effect fields. And surprisingly it's one of the uses of the tech that sorta make sense.

Not sure if this universe has anything similar to it. Without the ME field, the cannon is gonna shoot out like a c-fractional molten metal firehose.

"Bradford, Elizabeth, meet me in the briefing room." You instruct your First Mate and intelligence officer. "We need to come up with a plan for this asset recovery."

"Of course, Captain." Bradford nods.

"Aye aye!" Elizabeth salutes with a smile.

The three of you head into the briefing room, where the holoprojector in the center of the room begins displaying a three dimensional reconstruction of New White Haven, based on available data and intelligence.

"Pretty formidable defense for an agri-world." Bradford frowns. "This certainly isn't something we can pull off by barging through the front door."

"I agree." Elizabeth nods. "The Confederate fleet may not be nearly as high tech as ours, but they definitely have the numbers on us. Fighting them head on is certainly feasible, but preferably we want to have some kind of deciding factor."

"Perhaps an infiltration mission?" Bradford wonders.

"Well, what can we expect from the Confederate fleet?" You ask.

"Well, the destroyers certainly aren't the same level of the Gullinbursti." Elizabeth explains. "Honestly, they mostly use the same kinetic weaponry that the Hegemony does, just that they lack the heavy armor and instead make up for it in pure speed."

"The cruiser shouldn't be any different, though I believe Confederate cruisers tend to have lots of missiles at their disposal." Bradford adds. "The corvettes? I wouldn't worry about those. Typically they're just system patrol craft and blockade runners."

"Hmmmm." You frown.

"I think it's best to be sneaky about this." You nod. The numbers certainly weren't in your favor. "What are our options?"

"Well." Bradford points to some of the orbiting moons. "We can hide the Gullinbursti behind one of the moons and try and sneak a shuttle in through a gap in their sensor coverage. Since this is an agri-wrold, I doubt they have too many ground or space based sensor stations. Once we recover a sample, we can come in guns blazing to extract you."

"Or..." Elizabeth grins as she points to a number of small satellites in orbit around the planet. "The Gullinbursti can come in and do a quick hit and run attack to distract the local defenses. Hit a few satellites to degrade their sensors and communications, and we can even use the debris to cover the entry of our landing craft."

"That's quite risky." Bradford observes.

"And so is trying to penetrate a planet's defenses with just a lone shuttle." Elizabeth counters.

I'm reminded of a couple heist movies that did this sorta thing. We can have the shuttle enter atmo along with the debris to disguise it as it burns through the atmosphere to the surface.
>>
>>47014715
>>>Go with Bradford's plan.

The hit and run would put the place in alert anyway. If we manage to get in without being detected, that's better. Also the Gullinbursti can be used as a distraction if needed while the landing team operates planet-side.
>>
>>47014715
>>Go with Bradford's plan.

Max stealth! I'd prefer that they don't even know someone got near them, so no go on the attack.
>>
>>47014774
That is the plan. The problem is that the extraction is presumably the same as Bradford's "come in guns blazing" except the fleet is now on high alert.
>>
>>47014715
>>Go with Bradford's plan.
can we upgrade the shuttle? we are using it A LOT

Or if we continue to play "kiss and run" with the Confed fleet, we could draw enough heat for the extraction team to hijack a shuttle on-base and fly it off and away.

Admittedly, the plan is high-risk, but the bounty that could be claimed from damaging or outright destroying Confed ships, in addition to completing our primary objective, deserves consideration.

"I think we should go with Bradford's plan." You say. "I don't think they'd be looking for something as small as a shuttle."

"Understood." Bradford nods. "I'll be sure to notify tank."

"Eheh, are you sure you don't want to go down with them?" Elizabeth grins. "You seemed pretty hands on last time. A very rare trait among Captains..."

"Damn intel spooks." Bradford shakes his head in exasperation. "Always an odd bunch."

"I suppose you'd have to be in that line of work." You roll your eyes.

"Anyways, now that we've got an overall plan, I'll start handling the details." Bradford informs you. "I suggest you get some rest, Captain. It looks like you haven't been getting a lot of sleep."

"I'm fine." You try to wave off his concerns.

"You're not." Bradford frowns. "I'll be frank, Captain. I don't think you're thinking clearly because of that news about your sister. You need to get your focus, whatever way you can."

You decide to go check in on Natalia. See what she was up to. You know she was pretty bummed that you didn't allow her to use any of the prisoners as her "test subjects", and if there was one thing you knew, it was that you never wanted to leave a bummed Natalia unattended.

"Hey, Natalia....?" You ask softly as you cautiously enter the darkened infirmary. "You uh.. okay?"

"Oh, hello, Captain!" Natalia says cheerfully, seemingly materializing out of the darkness. "How have you been feeling?"

"Um, fine. A little tired, actually." You bite your lip.

"Ah, I see, I see. It just so happens I may have something that could help you with that!" Natalia says with a smile, holding a vial with an odd purplish liquid. "I would've have tested this on a prisoner if I had been granted one but since you're here..."

You finish downing the vial and wait as you let the chemical settle in your stomach.

"So, how do you feel, Captain?" Natalia inquires.

"Well." You pause. Nothing seemed to be happening so far...

And then you feel it. An ugly sensation in your gut that feelsl ike your stomach is getting twisted into a knot. You keel over and wheeze as your bodysuit's sensors were wailing.

"WARNING, GASTROINTESTINAL ISSUE DETECTED. COMMENCING EMERGENCY VENTING PROCEDURES."

You feel a sudden pressure on your gut and you fall to your knees as you "vent" the contents of your stomach all over the deck. Even worse, your vomit didn't even look normal. It was GLOWING.

And RAINBOW COLORED.

"Oh pity, I keep forgetting these suits of ours have these silly SAFETY systems." Natalia sighs. "I should really remember to turn those off."

"NATALIA WHAT THE FUCK!" You cough out the last of your vomit.

"It's simply a false positive, Captain. Your suit's safety monitor just wasn't calibrated for those tolerances." Natalia says simply as she helps you up, dabbing at your mouth with a cloth.

"I'm sure." You groan, now feeling even worse than before.

"I dunno, Tank." You slur. "My legs feel kinda wobbly..."

Without any prompting, Tank swiftly bends down and sweeps your legs out from under you, carrying you back to your quarters in his arms.

"Thanks a lot, Tank." You sigh. "I'm really sorry for troubling you like this.

Tank looks down at you. It was not trouble for him. He's doing it for the Captain, after all.

"Yer real sweet, you know that, Tank?" You giggle, feeling a bit lightheaded.

Tank doesn't make any answer as he continues to carry you through the halls, gently managing to avoid the prying eyes of the crew. It was kinda scary how he managed to learn how to navigate the bowels of the ship so well.

Finally, he brings you to your quarters, the door slowly sliding open. However, Tank pauses for a moment and looks back at you.

"Hello, Sam."
"C-Carly? What the hell? First I hear you've become a wanted criminal, and now when I take a nap, you're turning up in my dreams?"
>"To be fair, I've always been able to show up in your head."
>"And you only bother to show up and tell me you're alive now? This isn't cool, Carly!"
>"Oh~? What are you going to do about it?"
>"Dammit Carly! When I find you, even a fresh rookie freezing up on his first mission won't envy what I'll put you through!"

>Tank hears:
>"... I... want... a... coo... kie..."

>Sam wakes up to cookies and milk just recently placed on her bedside table

I don't know what to think about Tank. Various parts of me want different things. One part wants him to turn out to have been a cute girl all along (mainly for the reaction of the other crewmembers when they find out that the massive badass is a cute little girl) a second wants Tank to be an attractive older women who treats Sam as her daughter. Another part wants tank to be nonhuman, a robot or alien maybe a robot alien. And the last wants Tanks true identity to remain unknown.

"Can... can you tuck me in?" You squeak, still feeling a bit dizzy.

Tank pauses, apparently not expecting you to say that. However, he rolls with it and nods, carrying you into your room and seeting you down on your bed gently.

Jeez, you suddenly felt so sleepy and dizzy...

>It then evolves into an epic social battle between them in her dreams
>Meanwhile, Sam's just muttering more cute things in her sleep.

Does this count as sexual harassment from a superior officer?

Didn't we "confirm" Sam is a latent psyker when she biotic charged that Hegemony goon through the window? So I can see this happening. Actually, now that i think about it, that might also explain how she knows what Tank is saying........

"Ha, thanks for everything, Tank." You smile sloppily as you clasp your hands around his helmet and give a soft kiss on his "cheek."

Tank freezes in total and complete surprise, as if his armored had suddenly seized up. You giggle at his funny reaction.

Unable to take this any more, Tank immediately salutes, his hand slamming into his helmet with an even louder CLANG before sprinting out of your quarters as quickly as humanly possible.

Heh, that Tank...

And then darkness overtakes you.

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week! And don't forget KanColle on Friday!
