Its 0612 now. It took half an hour for the squadron to gain permission to land on one of the lighter TSF carriers out in the fleet. And then it took another hour to actually get landed what with the Laserjagd teams needing to be retooled for general strike missions. Now, resupply is dragging on for your Avengers. Even out of the cockpit, you and Foss like to stick together, as a ward against traveling retards in maintenance who don’t get that a 2nd Lieutenant who was stuck in a nuclear death machine might be just wanting to relax and not talk shop. Fucking Pam.

“I’m telling you, that new album is garbage. Fuckheads don’t even GET what music is.”

Foss shakes his head. “Nah, it’s like… fucking futuristic shit man, they’re ahead of the curve. It’s like I’m listening to them before they get big almost. They’ll be all over the radio in a few weeks, bet your ass.”
“No fucking deal” you mutter out, before taking another bite out of the hastily prepared sandwich pocket of unknown origins that the mess hall had dragged up to feed your asses. “You’re always the fucking lucky one about this shit.”

Both of you are pointedly ignoring the mangled pile of metal sitting above the deck. The remains of Silver – 4’s cockpit are being carved open by one of the Damage Control teams, in the hopes of recovering at least something for to bury back home. Though there really isn’t anything left, not after something like that. Paste maybe, considering how crushed it was from the impact.

“We’re pretty lucky you know,” you suddenly blurt out.

Foss just gives you a look, like you’d just gone off the deep end. “You haven’t gotten pussy since we got shipped off. What sort of fucking luck is that?”

“The luck you get when the guy you ask to wingman for you is the one every chick in the club thinks is the actual pilot because of what he looks like.” You grumble into your next bite of the bland tasting sandwich thing. “Like Maverick got switched up with Slider.”

“Goose. His RIO was Goose.”

“Foss, I don’t give a shit. I should be the one with movie star good looks. I’m the one flying the fucking Cancer Coffin.”

He shrugged. “Well you’re… ruggedly handsome? What the fuck do you want me to say, ‘I’d fuck you?’ or what?”

“Fuck you.”

“Hey, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Your secrets safe with me.”

You flip him the bird and scoff down the rest of what can charitably be called breakfast. Refueling wasn’t a factor in your Avenger’s turnaround time, but they still needed to account for pilot downtime and after spending hours underwater and on a knife's edge mentally from combat. You had to give them some time to regroup, even if it was just stupidly simple shit like eating a fucking shitty ass sandwich. That stuff about the navy having better chow was utter fucking bullshit.
>>
Dropped my trip.

>>47120813
Meanwhile, you could see them lifting up a new set of filled VLS cells to swap out for the ones you currently had attached to your Avenger. Harpoons probably, or at least you were hoping. Being on heavy strike duty instead of more cruise missile launches or god forbid anti-submerged BETA patrol was what you really wanted at this point. Fuck traveling underwater for hours. Fuck Davy Jones right in his diseased pale ghostly ass. You are a god damned MARINE, not one of those bubbleheads they put down in the subs with the Navy pukes. Being a submarine was not what the Avenger was meant to do.

“You know, we’re making history right now.” Foss starts up. “Being part of this invasion, flying on in and blowing shit up. It’s fucking blowing my mind just thinking about it.”

There’s a moment of silence before you reply.

"Maybe. There's a long fight ahead, though. It'll probably go on so long that us chumps here at the beginning will be forgotten."

Because let's face it, we're outnumbered a billion to one just in this solar system. Mankind will never not be fighting the BETA, there will just be periods where we've fought them off enough to regroup and rebuild our forces.

“Yeah but the shitty food won’t. What the fuck is this crap anyway, even the artificial rats taste better than this trash.” You grumble, concentrating on finishing the fucking awful tasting thing so you never need to look at it again. Foss tended to drag into this deep bullshit occasionally, probably part of whatever brain cancer the Avenger was giving him while he was riding bitch in your TSA. “Where the fuck is the cook, so I can force feed him this shit?”

Foss had avoided getting anything to eat outside of the ration bars he’d chowed down while you were flying… lazy bastard. “Chill out man, it could be worse,” he says with that smug fucking grin on his face you’ve grown to accept as the default expression of the RIO in his natural habitat. Foss fiddles a little with the jacket he’s wearing over his fortified suit, obviously trying to either find a new topic or ‘accidentally’ get away with removing the hastily pressed on “NAVY” lettering from the front.

You break the awkward silence. “Can’t believe Reilly and Jones ate it back there. I’m wondering how Schultz is taking it all.” Out of the corner of your eye you can see the Captain herself, talking to one of the crew of the TSF carrier about something or other.

“Yeah, that’s sort of what I meant by worse.” Foss stops fiddling with the Jacket, instead leaning against the railing as he watches the crews below finishing up their work on your Avenger. “They were just unlucky at a bad time. Shit happens.”

“Shit happens. Good thing it wasn’t us.”

“Exactly.”

It’s a little callous, when you think about it, but Foss was echoing your own real feelings on the matter. You’d both been flying in theater for a year, and you have seen your share of pilots end up dead and buried. Like it or not, that’s just how this shit turned out. Maybe you’d get to go home after this. Maybe.

“Hey, Foss, mind tuning out for a little bit, maybe listening to your shitty boyband? I need to check something.” Your RIO had a nasty habit of eavesdropping on lines he shouldn’t, like your conversations with your sister.

“Fuck off, they’re the future man. You just don’t get them.”

“I swear to god if you don't, I’ll climb back there and kick your fucking ass.”

Foss switched off his link to you though, leaving you in blessed silence outside of the sound of your engines warming up. Waiting was what you did the most as a pilot, ironically enough. Waiting to launch, waiting to surface, waiting for the order to get in the cockpit… all of that. Every little worry and fear ate at you whenever you were waiting for that go order.

Schultz probably had it even worse than you. You hesitated over the line again, before instituting a direct link to the captain’s coms. Well, the least you could do was try.

“Hey Captain.”

“Oh. It’s you.” Her voice was that usual bitchy tone that she took whenever you and Foss were fucking around on the comms.
“Yeah, me. I’m just wondering if you’re alright.” Quick, straight to the point, can’t be mistaken.

There’s a long, empty pause over the comm line before she answers. “You really, really need to ask that?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“I’m fine.” She says, harshly, but doesn’t cut out the connection. Like fucking hell she was fine.

“Don’t bullshit me ma’am.”

“Just… just fucking stay quiet. We’ve got a job to do, and you’re really stepping out of line right now Fischer.”

Her icy tone ends the call without her even needing to kill it. You hang up without another word. Oh boy, she’s taking this badly. Usually she’d have just killed it without another word. Still, as the Avenger’s start to rise off of the deck off the carrier, that doesn’t matter right now.

“So, Foss,” you start, “What’s this I see in our tubes? Harpoons?” Oh, this will be good. No more fucking around underwater, it’s time to go hunting on land, for some big big things.

“Yep. Looks like we won’t be getting our feet wet again today then.” Foss replies, flipping on his shitty pop music into your comm line as you follow the rest of the flight out towards the shore again. The naval artillery still hasn’t stopped firing since you first got out of the water, and the roaring of guns grows louder the closer you get to the big ships. Certainly looks like you’ll end up hunting, and the fact that you haven’t exploded into a million pieces means those Laserjagd teams did a good enough job. This CAP would be a breeze…

Well, you've got the time now to ask the one question you've been asking yourself since you forgot the briefing and can't be assed to admit to Foss just what it is: Where the fuck are you right now? It isn't France, obviously, or Norway, but that only narrows it down to oh, three fucking options. It's not flooded enough to be the low countries... you think, at least, so it's either northern Germany or, well, Denmark. And you went in the wrong direction out of Heligoland to be hitting northern Germany. That leaves just one option. Jutland.

This was going to be a bloody mess, you could already tell. Flat as hell, only real defensive areas are rivers long dried up, and it just happened to be where three or four different hives could rush it with nothing but a narrow stretch of land to retreat to until you're back into the sea. Looks like command really did go full fucking retard. With the lasers in the area gone however, things shifted in your favor immensely. Flat, open country meant long lines of sight and fields of fire, something the BETA would not appreciate in the slightest.

[ ] Well fuck. Looks like you're going to be reenacting the Somme day by day

You're a true blooded American who signed up out of high school, 2nd Lieutenant Fischer of the US Marine Corps 2nd Expeditionary Unit stationed out of the British Isles, or currently Heligoland off the coast of Germany. American policy has shifted since Ouka, especially with the success of Sledgehammer. The draft is back, and you like the idiot you are, decided to volunteer rather than end up in an army unit somewhere in the midwest keeping the refugee camps from exploding into violence. You shrug a little in your harness, looking down on one of the ships as it unleashes a full broadside at something over the horizon from you. This was going to be bloody, dangerous, and grueling from here on out no matter what happens. Invading Europe was never going to be a cakewalk, and the brass probably has SOME reason for invading this particular stretch of godforsaken earth instead of say, Normandy or Brittany. The Frogs must be fucking pissed that the Danish were getting liberated first instead of them. Still, Jutland. Flat, narrow, open, and almost perfect for holding if, and only if the Navy was supporting the ground pounders. Otherwise, it wasn’t going to end well for you, or anyone else.

Then again you signed up for this fucking shit out of high school, and actually had believed the fucking recruiter. 18-year-old you was a fucking dumbass who deserved to get smacked in the head for that. The risks were obvious going into all of this, and you’d survived your share of operations in the year you had on Tea Drinking Station. Your eight minutes of hell were long gone. So were some good friends.

“Foss, picking anything up on radio chatter?” You asked. He was listening – he was ALWAYS listening in his little fuckbuddy RIO station – to the chatter usually anyway, so there was no reason not to ask.

“Absolutely nothing, aside from some F-16’s asking for a resupply. I’ve noticed something a little odd though.”

“What?”

“Your conversation with the Captain.”

“You fucking listened in didn’t you?” Foss is pretty lucky you can’t actually look at him at the moment, because if looks could kill the one you had was beyond lethal and stretching instead into ‘war crimes’ territory. “Why the fuck did you listen in, did you need to hear my sweet voice or some shit so you could jerk off back there instead of to your faggoty boy band country club?”

“The captain seemed pissed. I was just kinda curious.”

You sigh, leaning back into the pilot’s seat. “Yeah. She’s… on edge. Maybe the stims hit her the wrong way? Or do you think losing Silver – 4 shook her somehow?”

Foss tapped his controls, apparently trying to tune into something he’d noticed. You could hear it through your radio link before he spoke. “You’ve got a better feel for Captain Schultz than I do. Be honest, is she really off kilter from something like that?”

“Fuck if I know. That time in Bremerhaven was worse than what we just did.” You could still sometimes hear the screams from that night when you dreamed. You didn’t dream much anymore, thankfully. “I mean, Jones and her were pretty close, but not that close you know? Wasn’t like they were fucking or anything.”

If they had been, Pam would have found out, and then the whole fucking base would have known about it within two or three hours. Fucking Pam.

“Maybe it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back? She’s probably a fucking mess of stress and stims right now, she didn’t even get anything to eat back on the ship.” Foss mused. “Bad time to have that happen though.”

“Really really bad. I’m worried, like actually worried. If the Captain’s not in the right state of mind, we could end up in some real shit.”

“Yeah.”

Your HUD chimed with a new navigation point, over the northern part of the stretch of shoreline just visible at the horizon. Schultz’s face popped up in the lower right corner, a grim look of determination concealing whatever was below. Hopefully she’d power through this before shit got serious.

“Alright Marines, listen up – we’ve just been assigned to support a Euro army unit that’s been stonewalled by a battalion of BETA, just outside of reach of our naval fire support. There’s at least a company of Forts in the area, and possibly more underground we don’t know about yet. Keep your eyes open, and get ready to do some BVR strikes. I don’t want to lose anyone else today, am I clear?”

With Silver -4 having kicked the bucket, you were now the captain’s new wingman, and you slid into formation slightly behind her with a practiced ease as you cocked your head back towards the fuckboy seat.

“Got anything interesting from up there? Anything at all?”

You could hear Foss frantically struggling to get an ear on whatever was going on up north of you, with some swearing going on.

“Some distress beacons from pilots who bailed out due to damage, a unit of ground pounders starting to lay down a base by… Frederak’s Havana? Somewhere by Norway, I think. There’s a few A-10 squadrons mopping up landing zones up there too…”

“Anything else?”

“Yeah, some swedes and kraut’s getting tangled up with BETA, taking some real casualties. Looks like their resupply pods were launched early. Fucking UN Space Corps.”

That sort of fuck up was pretty common in joint ops. Still sucked to be whoever was at the receiving end of that giant dick move. And despite having a country that looked like a giant dick, most of the swedes you’d known were pretty good people to have around. The real question though was how the fuck did Foss figure out just what nation they were from, but you didn’t question that sort of thing, otherwise he’d talk your ear off about encryption protocols and wavelengths and other stuff that made your head hurt. He was the RIO and you were the pilot for a very very good reason.

“How long do you think they’ve got?”

“Eh, with the traffic I’m getting? We should be able to save some of them, with luck.”

“Well, we’ve been lucky for most of today,” you say, checking the Harpoons are ready to fire. If you have to fight Forts, you’ll need to get every inch of maneuverability you can, just in case. Ditching the VLS cells was frowned upon, but perfectly viable. Getting chewed out by Schultz was preferable to death.

“Do you really want to press that though?” Foss said.

>>
>>47125679
[] why not? We make our own luck Foss! Beside, it'd be nice to know those UN killjoys owe us one.
>>
>>47125754

Oh, I know what you mean, and I'm all on board.
>>
>>47125754
By the way raptor. You haven't told us who your Alternative waifu is

Restore Order, duh (full annexation).

We have non-expiring cores there, remember?

>>47125679
>Swedes

Another Stella possibly is there. We have to save them.

>We'll make our own luck
>>
>>47125877
Wait... How did we get to the point of invading Canada!?! The British Mexicans are just south of us and somehow own 9 gold provinces!
>>
>>47125926
She's still apart of the UN you know. Plus she was apart of, and survived operation Ouka so if we're near Sweden, it wouldn't surprise me if the UN sent her here
>>
>>47125929
Unfinished business.

In this desperate world, we can't afford to let the Canadian disease of anti-Americanism so close to our borders.
>>
Alright, votes called. Will start to work on a writeup.

>Kaiserriech

Mein comrade
>>
>>47125971
But they only own 8 provinces! Plus the Mexicans are busy fighting 14 other nations! We could walk right in and take it all!
>>
>>47125679
Also FUCKING EASTERN GERMANS!!!

We don't have far to go before we can get large tracts of boarder on wasteland - once we have that frontier secured, it simplified things for operations in the south - we'd have to go all the way to Columbia to get the same effect, and that's a bit much OE for my tastes.

>>47125971

This is correct.

>FUCKING EASTERN GERMANS!!!

Could Foss arrange for our flight recorders to malfunction for... say... twenty seconds?

It's not like any of the Ossies that matter are still alive anyways.

>>
>>47126367
Point taken... Well except for katia. She's still alive from what I've heard
>>
>>47126405
She's probably dead, along with Anette if Theo goes Master.
>>
>>47126418
Actually, you're probably right. Cause wasn't Theo made her permenant body guard at the end of Schwarzenmarken? It would explain why he goes master but what was Annette and Gretel doing at the end of it?

Last post of the night at least story wise, I’ll still be around for questions and whatever the fuck else you want.

“We’ll make our own luck. We’ve survived this long, and I am not, I repeat for the fucking record on this fucking black box, I am not going to die like a little bitch on this fucking day.” You cut out Foss after that, instead opening another comm link to the captain, and receiving her usual scowl at the sight of you.

“What the hell do you want Fischer?”

“To tell you to get the fuck off your ass and let us dump the bins on these bastards now we’re in range ma’am.”

Schultz blinked, then started to smile, slowly. Honestly, you find her happy face much scarier than her general ‘resting bitch face’ she usually wears at all times that do not involve killing BETA. It’s… strange on her. Like how seeing her in a dress would be, just you know, odd as fuck.

“You may fire when ready Lieutenant.”

Oh. You were born ready for this.

“Foss, you’ve got locks on those Fort’s right?”

“Are you implying that I don’t know how to do my fucking job? Of course I do, I’m piggybacking their radars from 70 nautical miles out already you know! This isn’t easy!”

“Then hold onto your ass, because I’m dumping the bins.”

Without the water to provide a cushion of sorts, the impact of twelve rocket motors igniting to boost the Harpoons out of their carrying cells and streaking over the horizon at nearly the speed of sound was enough to cause a noticeable drop in altitude as you laughed maniacally over open comms. Foss sent the sound of the reactions of the people you were ‘Rescuing’ at the sudden communication coupled with the appearance of 12 new radar contacts followed by another 120 soon after as the rest of the squadron followed suit as the RIO’s scrambled to make the locks solid. Foss had his uses sometimes, you supposed.

Now, you were 8 minutes out from the merge, and if those pilots couldn’t last that, well, the missiles would arrive in 6. Time to motor.

The red eyed chick is basically my ideal. It's like they went down a checklist of every conceivable physical trait I like in an anime girl, then gave her one of the absolute worst personalities possible. She's not even sexy evil, just evil in the way that makes your skin crawl.

Gives me some idea about my next BBEG though.

By the way... Am I the only one hopeing this goes partially to hell JUST so we can end up like that one Italian cyborg (he showed up at Yokohama during the summer of 2001?) And his only job while there was for the valkire girls to give him a boner so he could route out Soviet spies
>>

I did that last week guys! And it doesn't work for manically laughing whilst firing dozens of missiles while being broadcasted to the guys you're trying to save

She's a good girl who was given a bad hand at life. Rather than glory in her death, pity her...

Whether she is in Hell, or in Heaven, or somewhere in between, or somewhere far beyond, she will hear you.
