From street-level to cosmic and everything in between, this is the thread to discuss all things superheroic, at least as tabletop games go. Mutants & Masterminds, Marvel Heroic, Heroes Unlimited, Dark Champions, Villains and Vigilantes, and any other system out there, this is the thread for you if you want to feel superhuman.

Previous thread: >>47104581

Current topic: What would a real-life city be like in a world of supers? How would they become part of the city's culture?
>>
>>47137832
San Francisco heroes outfits would typically expose their genitals

>>47137832
Given the whole ww2 nazi supervillain thematic, how would germany handle it´s supers?

I´d imagine them wanting to prove themselves as different from their countries past "heroes".
>>
If you could teleport trough shadows does that mean that you can teleport almost everywhere at night or not?
>>
>>47139146
The Hitler Hangover hit Germany and its supers HARD. Pretty much all the records had to be stricken of all their former heroes. Those who were still alive needed either a top-to-bottom rebranding or outright disappeared. Germany would never acknowledge their old supers, innocent or not, and they essentially had to rebuild their super presence from scratch. No country has ever had to go through that to such a degree as Germany did.

Makes you wonder about the Russian supers.
>>
>>47139275
all military controlled
>>
>>47139275
>>47139374
Meanwhile, many American supers had a bit of Renaissance thanks to World War 2. Many heroes underwent a more "patriotic" rebranding, at least temporarily, and after the Americans won the war, any new supers that arose tended to sport the Stars and Stripes somewhere in their colors or motif.

If you were an American, you were as proud as could be. If you were a German or Japanese, you either lived in shame or outright ceased to exist.
>>
>>47139177
I'd say you can teleport anywhere in total, pitch darkness but if there are discernible shadows you're stuck with those even at night.

You could carry around some kind of hooded lantern to cast your own shadows in nighttime conditions, though.
>>
>>47139468
Up until the 60s, at least. America's use of drafted supers in the Vietnam War created a lot of backlash and led to a whole generation of heroes with an anti-establishment image.
>>
>>47139275
>>47139468
personally I'm thinking outside of a small handfull who were around pre-WW2(and went into hiding for most of the war), Japan didn't really have much of a Superhero culture prior to reconstruction, with most of it's Supers during the war simply being treated as normal soldiers, the combination of the high influx of American culture post-war and no longer being able to have an army, which extends to it's Supers as well, which is one of the reasons why Japan has the second highest Civilian Supers population after the United States, as they can't funnel theirs into Military Service like a lot of other nations do
>>
>>47139468
I actually really like that idea.
A cape's gimmick/branding and public perception being changed overnight by other events.
>>
>>47139468
>outright ceased to exist

I agree with this for Japan. Supers would be quietly absorbed into the National Public Safety Commission or something similar sounding-ministry.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Public_Safety_Commission_%28Japan%29

So supers would be nondescript people in suits and ties operating under some so-and-so special response/ public security agency of some kind. On paper.

Something like those guys in K' or Ga-Rei but more drab and boring.
>>
>>47137832
As a reminder: If people want, I'm willing to pop into Champions Online and do my best to capture the costumes they're putting down to text.

It may not end up being exactly right, but it'll be enough for if drawfags need models.
>>
>>47139847
What if Japan's Supers were rolled into Unit 731 or one of their Secret Police or one of the Colonial Affairs enforcement units? Special Attack Unit #xxxxx ?

Or they were mass-thrown into the Kwantung Army to nip the Soviet invasion at the tail end of WW2, so a whole lot of them were obliterated by Soviet supers?
>>
>>47139854
It's not a common thing, and you didn't see Superman or Batman actually changing their color schemes, but you did see them waving a lot more American flags around.

nah that's just terrible, boring, and limiting

>>47139929
that's pretty much what I was thinking, a lot of Japan's existing Supers population would be wiped out due to that, so much of the first wave of post war Supers would be ones with powers artificial in nature(one of the reasons why so many Japanese Supers are technology or magic based instead of inherent like in the United States and most other countries)

>What would a real-life city be like in a world of supers? How would they become part of the city's culture?

Astro City is basically based around exploring this idea.
The answer is thus, "surprisingly normal, but the little stuff they holds up our lives (such as rainstorms and freeway blockages and construction and police cars around a crime scene forcing you to drive slower) tends to have a lot weirder causes and sources in general."
>>
>>47139146
Germany would almost certainly be leading the charge on rebranding old nationalistic heroes as token minorities.
>>
>>47139146
I love how Earth-Prime handles this with it's Central Europe supplement.

Basically, it points out that VERY little is left of the country that Adolf Hitler took over because the Allies and the USSR spent decades dismantling it. You can find far more Nazi Superheroes in AMERICA then you can find in Germany because no one in Germany sympathizes anymore and nothing of what they do has had any relevance to modern Germans for over sixty years.

Communism and the fall of the USSR on the other hand HAS left it's mark. Remember; up until the Berlin Wall fell Germany was TWO separate countries, so any super in modern day over the age of 40 grew up in a nation that doesn't quite exist anymore.
One of their state hero team's members, an Iron Man-type hero is actually a former member of the old Stasi-controlled superhero team and he's changed his identity to both redeem himself and hide from the crimes he committed as a member of East Germany's secret police for example.

So, one of the things that hit me was that the conversation for Country Gal had her as basically the Hollywood idea of a cheesecake cowboy. As a sidekick to the Heiress, she'd basically be eyecandy. Eyecandy that could hit you like a ton of bricks, but still basically Western-flavored cheesecake.

Her costume's largely a reflection of that arrogance. A white cowboy hat, to show that she's the good guy, a vest, Daisy Dukes, an oversized belt, and boots with heels that probably aren't even that comfortable. They added spurs just for that jingle jangle jingle, and enforce the idea that she should be chewing on blades of grass because it's what country girls do.

My only real addition is the necklace. I kinda like the idea of one of her ancestors being a US Marshall, and his badge being passed down through the family. She wears it as a necklace, about the only part of the costume that the Heiress will allow her to choose for herself.

M&M's Earth-Prime is kinda funny about Japan. It noted that super "fads" are common there, and that Tokyo actually has one of the highest superheroes per capita of any city in the world.
However most don't actually DO anything because Japan is ALSO one of the least violent nations on the entire planet and most of it's problems are sociological and have nothing to do with violent crime or anything of the sort.

Once she delivers the beatdown to Heiress and reclaims the Barnstormer name, I figure she'd switch up her outfit. Still very Hollywood cowboy, of course, but more comfortable and less cheesecake overall. comfy boots, jeans with chaps for when she gets slung across a parking lot, a lasso so she doesn't have to jump after flyers like an idiot, gloves to avoid ropeburn... The white hat's grown on her, though.

For the record, I have her set at 5'10", not counting the hat or boots.

One of her totems is the flight of the eagle, so she can be a flyer herself. That said, being able to hogtie someone in midair would be quite the feat.

>As a sidekick to the Heiress, she'd basically be eyecandy. Eyecandy that could hit you like a ton of bricks, but still basically Western-flavored cheesecake.
Initially, on top of being easily digestible cheesecake, Country gal is, for all intents and purposes, the Heiress's manservant. When she's not tanking hits for the Heiress, she's the one forced to stand in the corner of the club while the Heiress is in the middle of the dance club. As time goes on, she gains some autonomy but is still basically kept under the Heiress's heel.

>Japan Capes

The way I see it the Tokyo area would be like the system described last thread with the Catgirl. The government/corporate backers that fund the Tokyo super universities only want the best of the best, and when the new breed comes up the old has to step aside. Rarely are there sanctioned Japanese supers over thirty. It's just the culture. They're obsessed with youth.

Outside of Tokyo you run into Ishinomori/Go Nagai inspired characters that really don't give a shit about government/corporate rules. Ishinomori heroes in particular are often victims of a broad conspiracy at all levels of society and government. They aren't going to let red tape stop them from getting revenge. God help the government stooge that tries to protect a member of VIRAL, terrorist organization that transformed Joe Henshin into Karate Bugman. And even god can't help whoever the Go Nagai inspired character is after.

The Tokyo outfit usually has their hands full dealing with the "unaffiliated". But they can't deny that the unaffiliated produce results. Sometimes you have to work outside society to see whats wrong with it. It's an idea that's anathema to the Japanese way of life, but its one many of her greatest heroes embrace.

I'm thinking about making a Sentai/Getter Robo group. Each member represents one of the seven chakras, and when they combine their power they all merge into a giant physic tulpa. Their one of the few capes that can actually harm the psychic nightmare-invaders they fight, so the government is forced to tolerate that fact that many of them are individualist, unhinged, and violent (just like good ol Getter Team!).

So in Japan we have:

Tokyo Team

The Unaffiliated

And that cool idea about small town Ghibli capes keeping peace between the townsfolk and ancient kamis.

I think Japan is developing nicely, but we need more faces besides the Catgirl.
>>

>least violent nations and most of its problems are sociological

Go the "Grant Morrison Paul Bunyan" route. Disaffected Korean/Ainu/Burakumin members of the super Yakuza blackmaling businesses. Superhuman loan sharks that impose weird penalties on their prey like JoJo characters. Living depression monsters that feed on depression that take the forms of monsters of the week that the local sentai/giant robot team has to deal with.

I'm not sure about the "forced retirement at 30" angle. Yeah, Japan has an intense focus on youth, but they also adore their legacies. The old heroes still work hard before bequeathing their title to a worthy successor; even then, it's always exciting to see the old veteran come back and fight alongside their modern counterpart. It's why there's been five Tiger Masks and who knows how many Pretty Cures.

Speaking of, as mentioned in the last thread, Japan makes it a cottage industry of turning their anime/manga/film/TV/literature characters into real life. Imagine a world where Railgun is real, where Raoh is real, where fucking Sasuke is real.
>>
>>47141801
>Forced Retirement at 30

You raise a good point. Perhaps we could go less of an idol angle and more of a rigorous Tokyo University standards angle? Their "best of the best" Tokyo team only has so many seats, and those seats can be challenged. While many capes thing people put far too much importance on joining this team (they'll happily point out how no one from the Karate Bugman legacy has been on the team, and how mech teams don't get a seat, etc) people give it a lot of weight. Its prestigious.

So its less our Catgirl heroine being forced into retirement by her corporate masters and more a younger hotshot fresh out of high school wants her seat. Could that work?

Franchise supers could be very interesting. Maybe that's how many capes support themselves, by "bringing to life" a popular character? You could even have this surreal thing where manga writers create fictional manga works specifically with a real world cape in mind to "play" the part.
>>
>>47141801
>where fucking Sasuke is real.
I actually had a ninja character for M&M once who found Naruto mildly offensive because being a ninja is part of his cultural heritage and he felt it was basically the Blaxploitation of his culture.

That said, he DID have uncanny abilities derived from his ninja training, they just weren't Dragonball Z magic like they have in Naruto but instead the exaggerated a abilities ninjas had in Japanese folklore.
>>

I remember someone mentioned how Deathmatch sims and "Super MMA" matches were big in Las Vegas. I bet Super MMA would be big as hell in Japan.

Up next, we have Heiress coincidentally, that's the name of the first porno I ever saw. The Heiress, from what I read last thread, is demanding, hedonistic, bitchy, arrogant, and full of herself. Actually, I don't think a power was decided on for her.

I figure she's got a costume for every occasion. A separate clubbing costume, a dance costume, an interview costume, a costume when she has to appear with the 'poor unfortunates'... I'd bet that she's got a superpowered tailor that can manipulate clothes on standby at all times.

When I think of the kind of person that'd be called 'Heiress', two things pop into mind. The first, a Paris Hilton type. Kind of boring, visually, though. Regular gowns, skirts, etc. That said, Paris Hilton is apparently super nice in real life and way, way into radios and astronomy. The second is a fully overblown rich chick who stepped out of some movie about European royalty. High maintenance hair, perfect make-up, and a costume that isn't entirely sensible, but damned if it doesn't look good as she sweeps past the unconscious bodies in her path.

The mask hides some high-tech communications gear and cameras, so she can point out how everyone except for her fucked up that last time. Everyone knows who she is underneath it, though, but it enhances the mystique. The choker contains a GPS chip, so that her people can find her if she goes missing.

Her hair is dyed, of course.
>>
>>47142045
Oh, and I have her at 5'5".

>You could even have this surreal thing where manga writers create fictional manga works specifically with a real world cape in mind to "play" the part.
That's almost exactly what I partly had in mind. It becomes this strange meta where certain manga writers create characters under the assumption that they will be reenacted by a super.
>>
>>47141801
Maybe heroes in the modern age, once they hit that 30s range and aren't quite as able to keep up or be as marketable, tend to go into politics?
>>
>>47142045
>Actually, I don't think a power was decided on for her.
She had some manner of psionics, allowing her to dazzle with light shows, mind blast, and even sling some telekinesis. Supposedly, the strength of her power is tied to her popularity.
>>
>>47142179
She's also apparently the descendant of a former big name hero, though that was never elaborated on.
>>
>>47142123
Potentially. They could do a lot of things once they retire. Catgirl's mom went into flower arrangement and tea ceremonies. She uses her enhanced cat senses to blend the most perfect tea.

>>47142179
Yeah. She has a suite of psychic powers. The more people think about her the more powerful she becomes. When she mellows out and gets her life together she steps out of the limelight and loses a degree of power, but her friend and family thinking about her gives her enough power to be an effective member of the team. She finds she has enough power to protect what is truly important to her.
>>
>>47142251
Her dad was a telekinetic and her mother had light and sound powers. She always hated herself growing up because when she was just their daughter she could barely bend a spoon. But when she made it in acting her powers exploded with her popularity. Unfortunately her new lifestyle has estranged her form her parents. Reconnecting to them is part of her arc.

6'3", zero frills to his costume. He gets shot at, cut, and blown up so much that he'd end up spending more on costumes than his merchandising would cover. Despite pushing 50, he's still in peak physical condition, though his joints let him know about it in the mornings now.

>Magic Girl

An adult ex- magical girl of about 30 with knowledge beyond her years from communing with ancient spirits. Personality wise she's calm and mature, more like Dr Fate or Strange and less like Sakura. She specializes in training and protecting children with unpredictable and random powers. She had trouble controlling her powers at first, she knows how hard it can be for a kid to have powers. She's a very maternal, warm character. She's the "team mom".

She doesn't care about having a seat. She deals with more important things than popularity contests, like kami and shadow demons made of depression and would drop her seat in an instant if Tokyo didn't beg her to stay on.

Her apprentice is a member of the Ghibli small town team, a tomboy Magical Girl. She teleports in from time to time but doesn't want to appear overprotective.

She advises Catgirl to just give up her seat to the challenger. It's less trouble for everyone that way.

>>47142462
Meowing Midori works for me!
>>
>>47142497
If he's about 48~49, that means he'd be hitting 18, and probably beginning his career, at around 1986 or so. That still gives him about thirty solid years of heroing.

Sly and Arnie are pushing 70. I'd think that's too old to keep up with something as physically demanding as superheroing. But, then, I didn't make any of these guys. I'm just putting together costumes for people to give their opinions.
>>
>>47141383
personally I'd take a note from various Toku series and just have new villainous organizations be constantly forming and emerging, but since Japanese heroes don't have anywhere near as much of a taboo against killing as American heroes do, said organizations rarely last longer than a year or two before crumbling

while there are plenty of independent groups, a lot of the villain organizations time and again turn out to be led by the mysterious entity known as Overlord Darkness, who's made multiple contradictory but apparently all true claims towards his origins, with these just being some of them;

Immortal Body Hopping Nazi Monk

Interdimensional Super Satan

Supercomputer created by elements of the Japanese Government in an attempt at a facist coup in the late 60's to early 70's

former Superhero captured by an earlier organization and turned into a cyborg

Emperor of an Alien Empire

King of an underground race of Saurian Demons

Alternate Timeline version of at least 5 different Heros

despite all these seemingly contradictory claims to what he is, over the years enough evidence has mounted that all of these claims are simultaneously correct, with the current theory being that this is possible due to him being at the epicenter of multiple Crisis grade events, which has resulted in multiple dimensional versions of him, all radically different, being metaphysically merged into a near indestructible memetic and multi-dimensional lifeform of pure evil

A 17-year-old by-the-numbers speedster. Like many upstart youngsters, he has a bit of an attitude to him. His signature technique is the "Sonico Boom," where he gets into a crouching runner's start before taking off with an explosion of speed, creating a sonic boom shockwave around him that shatters glass and can send enemies flying and disoriented. >Sword Saint

A perfectionist and graduate of Tokyo U. Has trained his entire life to get on the team. Is a bit of a cold fish in his personal life, but Magic Girl is hoping to get him to come out of his shell before he burns out.

He has a huge crush on Meowing Midori but has no idea how to deal with his feelings. He appears doomed to be a herbivore man unless Magic Girl can convince him to work up the courage to ask her out.

He lives like a soldier. He eats exact portions. He gets up at dawn to train. He's never touched alcohol in his life.

He has enhanced human physicality to the point that he can catch bullets out of the air--not that regular bullets can even harm him. He can also read the aura of people to know exactly what they're going to do microseconds before they act. He can project a field of energy that becomes more powerful the closer the closer it is to his body. Normally he uses his energy field to create powerful swords that can bend and twist around obstacles to get at opponents.

>Melted Metal Man (Ebisu)

His power is being the T-1000. His curse is being the T-1000. One of Magic Girl's hardest cases, he developed his powers when he was just a boy. But he's also probably her greatest success story. He went from being a blob that could barely hold a shape to being able to change into anyone and anything...as long as that someone is golden and metallic looking.

He has major body image issues that Magic Girl helps him with. He "grew up" throughout the years by slightly altering his default appearance every birthday based on a model of what he would've looked like if he never developed powers. He has a love/hate relationship with his shape shifting. He feels like a freak every time he transforms into something or someone not his default, but he admits to finding that it feels strangely liberating to be able to transform into nearly anything.

Because he went from incapable blob to Tokyo Guardian he is nicknamed Ebisu after one of the Japanese gods of fortune. He is fiercely jealous of his seat. With his seat he is a hero. Without it he worries that he'll be seen as little more than a freak. He advises Meowing Midori to fight tooth and nail to keep her own seat.

>Samurai Ninja

Westaboo and mangaka, this cape assumes the identifies of the characters from his own work "Samurai Ninja" about the bastard son of a Samurai warrior and a ninja assassin in a world where super powers exist in the feudal age and blood lines are breeding programs for living weapons. He's hoping for international success and a movie deal. If he's lucky he might even get to meet his heroes The Blockbusters!

Samurai Ninja is a controversial figure on the Tokyo Guardians for dressing like a feudal warrior. Some see him as honoring Japan's heritage. Others see him as promoting stereotypes.

Personality wise he's a friendly, hardworking individual that believes in self actualization represented by him becoming his own comic creation. Sometimes he loses himself in daydreaming thinking about manga plots. He advises Meowing Midori to fight for her seat. Tokyo deserves only the best, whether that best happens to be herself or her rival. If she's really better than Meowing Midori she should be able to prove it.

Power wise he is an extremely strong telekinetic. He's able to agitate molecules making things melt or explode as well as levitate and hurl objects and make force fields.

So, just so I have this down right about Super Japan:
>Japan is one of the most internally competitive countries in the world when it comes to supers
>Research and training are important ventures
>Supers are (mostly) rigorously tracked and regulated
>Tokyo has its Six Guardians, whose seats can be directly challenged for
>Out in the rural area, you have more down-to-earth, unaffiliated supers who protect the countryside
>Mechs and some toku heroes are somewhere in the middle
>There's also official "super cosplay," supers who are sanctioned to cosplay as favorite characters from anime, manga and other media, complete with powers that match the material
>Common enemies include shady organizations, strange monsters, and beasts that feed on negative energy

Anything I'm missing?

Body Double. Eccentric shapeshifting multiplier, he probably wants to stand out in a crowd. Always ready to pitch a movie or give an interview, what he's wearing doesn't matter so much since he can always look like something different. However, whatever he chooses will usually have a... unique approach.

I have him at 5'10". Not a very heroic build, kinda spindly. He's an actor/director/writer/~artiste~ first, hero second.

"Super fights" and supers as entertainment are relatively prominent, hence the "super cosplay" movement.

Pretty good encapsulation. You have capes in the Tiger and Bunny/My Hero Academia mold that focus as much on getting on the Six Guardians and "making it" as fighting bad guys and rescuing people, and then you have capes in the Go Nagai/Ishinomori mold that want to kick the ass of >>47143002
this guy and his organizations and aren't really interested in "the system". And then you have the small town Ghibli defenders that work to peacefully integrate the kami and kaiju that live in the remote parts of Japan with its rural communities, which I think could be Bone/Power Pack levels of comfy.

I think our Cape Japan is forming nicely. There's a lot of room for a lot of stories and the variety prevents Japan from being locked into a specific "hat" of super heroics.

For the last Tokyo Guardian I'm thinking "What if a kid found The Guyver and it became his best friend?". It'll be a trippy idea but I think it could work once I flesh it out a little.

Meowing Midori could use a little work as she's so far the "Barnstormer" focus character of Cape Japan. What's her rival like? We got some sense of her mother as a very traditional "Nadesico" type character.

>>47143776
I like them! I can't wait to see how the SFX robot turns out.
>>
>>47143776

>>
>>47143844
I kinda liked the poofiness. Sort of gave it a European nobility thing in my head.

I can always redo it.
>>
>>47141369
Honestly, I don't think Barnstormer has too much beef with the short shorts. It's not like she wasn't wearing them casually already. But yeah, both her costumes look fine. Country Gal is appropriately cheesy, and Barnstormer is far more practical. The US Marshal star is a nice touch.
>>
>>47143874
The poofy dress is fine. I was thinking she had an alternate "party girl" outfit.
>>
>>47143834
Obivously, Meowing Midori's challenger is considerably younger than her and figures they can take her seat since she's the "weakest" of the Six Guardians. The rival would be intensely ambitious and will stop at nothing to claim the seat, even to the point of running a smear campaign ("Is Meowing Midori really as capable as you people think?"). Midori has to consider if it's worth sinking to the rival's level and making this a petty grudge match. Not only does she have to question her own capability, but she also faces intense scrutiny from her comrades and other supers about her actions, whether she will give up the seat or fight to defend it.

Remember, one of the core tenents of the Japanese cultural experience is "Don't rock the boat."

It usually takes me about thirty minutes to do up a costume in CO. For powered armor/robot types, sometimes over an hour.
>>
>>47144242
Oh, right. That's scaled at seven feet tall exactly. And if you want to know how ridiculous CO's models for women are, that's with the Body Mass, Muscle, Bicep, Shoulder, Thighs, Lower Legs, etc. sliders all turned up to maximum.

If I did that with a male, they'd end up looking like the Hulk.

Would it be too corny if her rival turned out to be a Wolf Girl?

>Dream Warrior

When he was but a child Dream Warrior was captured by a psychic supremacist conspiracy that hoped that he was the "hero the dreams foretold of" that would bond with the "Princess of Dreams" and create an invincible warrior that would purge the world of non psychics.

Fortunately one of the KINGs (The Kamen Rider analog of this world. Comes in many generations and themes) rescued him before he could be indoctrinated and the boy grew up to be one of Japan's greatest champions.

Dream Warrior is protected by the Princess of the Dream world, his life long friend and companion, who manifests in reality as an armor of "pure imagination". Dream Warrior can convert her potential power into physics defying actuality, but the more insane his feats the more he risks being drawn forever into the world of dreams (along with a large chunk of Japan in the resulting teseract implosion). Generally he can fly, project waves of energy, and enter in and out of the dream world. But there are no "set" limits to his powers.

Think Guyver + The Flash + Little Nemo.

Personality wise he's a very quiet guy, more at home in dreams than in reality. He's something of an otaku/hikomori. He prefers to stay alone in his room until duty calls reading books and working on his paintings of the dream world. The Princess of Dreams is very protective of him, and wishes with all her heart to be a "real" person like he is. But her over-protectiveness is denying him the opportunity to grow and develop into a confident socially functioning adult.

Magic Girl is hoping The Princess of Dreams will let Dream Warrior spend some time alone with a human girl, for both their sakes.

Dream Warrior advises Meowing Midori to surrender her seat. He doesn't think its worth causing drama over. He promises that he'll never stop being her friend, even if she does have to leave the Guardians.
>>
>>47137832
I think, as silly as it is, one punch man's hero society was a brilliant way of handling it.
It's allows you to document supers, give incentives to dictate behavior, acts as a almost - paranormal investigation unit of the police force, state regulated image and spin, classifications, and donation based pay for skilled work.

Supers didn't have to hide, they had help with things most supers don't know what to do with (law and liability arnt exactly ingrained at birth), and non Para humans got a better image instead of "crazy super powered muder hobo".

THE TOKYO GUARDIANS

Magic Girl (Maybe she should upgrade to magic woman?): Magic Girl now in her thirties with awesome arcane powers. Likes to help children with super powers. The Team Mom.

Dream Warrior: Hikomori who uses his dream-girl waifu as battle armor like The Guyver. Can bend the laws of reality at the risk of being suck forever into the dream worlds.

Sonico: Young cocky speedster with a sonic boom special move.

Samurai Ninja: Westabo mangaka looking for a movie deal with atomic manipulation and telekinesis. Portrays one of the characters from his own manga in an act of self actualization (very lucrative self actualization).

Sword Saint: Midnighter with a lightsaber that can bend, stretch, and flex. A cold fish with a crush on Meowing Midori

Meowing Midori: Super strong, super fast Catgirl and expert in judo, jujitsu, and karate. Her family is big in the "super MMA" world but she's the second of her family to enter the world of "real" superheroics after her mother. Her chair has been challenged by a rival with a smear campaign proclaiming her the weak link in the Guardians, and she's determined to not give it up without a fight.

HOW DOES IT LOOK?
>>
>>47144463
It sounds a little like Geoff Johns JSA where it was less of a task force and more a superhero rotary club dedicated to making sure the next generation of supers integrated well with society at large.

>>
>>47144873
Midori wins and keeps her seat as validation of her prowess and worth. The rival and her colleagues admit her strength, both in body and spirit, and her willingness to prove she deserves her seat. The rival promises to challenge her again soon.

>>47144903
>>47144873
I dunno. I think she should lose. Her rival appologizes for being a bitch during the fight and admits her strength, but Midori goes down after a hard fought battle. The rival promises Midori that she will honor her legacy.
>>
>>47145029
But then what about those people who said she should've given up the seat quietly if this was going to be the result? That way, she wouldn't have been embarrassed.

Getting some sleep now. Tomorrow I want to try focusing on the small town Ghibli team and some of the unaffliated Japanese Supers, and maybe see how Cape Berlin is doing.

Cape Berlin could be very interesting. I want to do more than make them the "we're sorry our super teams were Nazis" country. I want to make Germany a nation of super adventurers taking the notes and discoveries the Thule Society and German Theosophists made and running with the, They explore extradimensional temples to outer gods, subterranean civilizations, dream world and lost worlds and all sorts of wonderful pulp set pieces.

The "focus" character is a guy whose trying to research his family tree of where his sudden super powers came from (records are hard to come by because no one wants to out someone as the grandson of The Iron Nazi) and finds that he's a cross breed between a human man and a an alien princess from another dimension. Think Edgar Rice Burroughs adventures.

He finds that he can manipulate Vril energies and uses this to start exploring neighboring dimensions, maybe even trying to find his princess grandmother. But things take an interesting turn when he learns that an evil organization is using portals to other dimensions as a way to harvest resources (answering the question of where COBRA and HYDRA get the stuff to build giant robots and mega-bases).

Should Cape Germany head on a "pulp adventure" course?
>>
>>47146926
Let's not pigeonhole an entire city in a single genre. It's true that you can find many seeds for pulp adventures in Germany, what with the fall of the Third Reich and making sense of everything they did, but that shouldn't be all there is.

Is there a game for the X-Men where you can have really weird powers (like your digestive system is replaced with two large slugs that can eat through anything at super speeds) and still work as a character? One that is less about generically "leveling up" and more about developing your skills and powers? I don't really know the superhero systems that well, just that I remember looking at one or two and they didn't seem to work.
>>
>>47147534
Many superhero systems don't actually focus on gaining stats as a means of advancement. Yes, you can award stat points as incentive, but that's not the main means to get people to do things. Mostly, it's done for the sake of narrative.
>>
>>47147534
M&M and MHR and others don't really "level up" in the D&D fashion at all.
The games are aware that superhero narratives don't really fit the concept of a character arbitrarily growing stronger by killing lots of things.

Help me with Summon in M&M 3. As I understand it, the default summon gives you one minion and any damage on it will still be there if you summon it again before it can recover.

You can get around this with the Variable Type extra, but that lets you summon a whole broad or general category of things.

But what if I want to summon a minion with exactly the same appearance and stats every time, but I want it to come in fully healed and otherwise be completely independent of any previous summonings? How would I cost that?

> Their "best of the best" Tokyo team only has so many seats, and those seats can be challenged.

That's a very shonen manga/battle school trope. It fits.
>>
How should I design a cape? Just give it some benefit like protection or an intimidation bonus? I can probably file it under armor, right?

>>47148123
So, the best of the best tokyo team has a shonen battle promotion. How do other teams fare? Do magical girls, mecha pilots and sentai (or whatever they´re called) have a similar structure?
>>
>>47148205
I think the top Sentai team should just be one guy with Duplication, Morph, and some kind of modular weapon.
>>
>>47147942
More questions! How would I do a summon that only lasts for one or two rounds? The Fades modifier kind of works, but you'd need a bunch of different statblocks as your Summon lost ranks every round.

I vaguely recall 2E having some kind of Total Fade option, but I don't have that book around and I forget how they priced it.

Solo Sentai - A Guy whith the ability to duplicate himslef several times and morphing. Also has some sort of modular weapon.

Traditional sentai team 1 - Red Ranger (Boy, Leader), Green Ranger (Boy, Second in Command, Rival to Red), Blue ranger (Boy, the Tech Guy), Pink Ranger (Girl, Medic), Yellow Ranger (Girl, Heavy Hitter)

A Samurai/Ninja themed Sentai Team
A Animal themed Sentai Team

Their Enemies range from normal crooks to aliens, kaiju (normally the enemie of the mecha pilots) and mystical forces (Overlapping with the magical girls area of expertise)

depends on the superhero themselves,

people form vigilante groups, hero symbol grafiti to either scare criminals or mark territory, fake outfits, copy cats (both super hero wannabes and people who copy specific hero motif) , someone opens up a shop to sell hero stuff, super hero insurance, sir david attenborough manages to track them down and films a documentary on them, a statue in their honour, museum of their actions, warning signs. possible rise in police numbers, military presence, local government gets involved in some way, drop in crime, rise in criminals trying to kill super hero

there was a case in america where a guy dressed up as a superhero and went and fought criminals. bunch of other guys joined him (two got arrested for) and the main guy quit because it didn't work they way he wanted it to work

japanese super hero academy where they "legitimize" super heroes
a "national super hero team" (japanese alpha team) that is under direct control of the government with a limited number of spots > to get on the team you have to challenge an existing member to a fight and win, team leader is the only person who can;t be challenged for a spot on the team, but he can be challenged for position of team leader by a team member. they are the ones sent around the globe to represent japan in international affairs

the other heroes are kept at the academy and are sent on national mission, but never international missions."alpha" team members usually take up teaching positions in the super hero academy when they are defeated. and help train heroes or they train and attempt to regain their previous position

any super hero not legitimised by the academy is either a rogue hero or a villain and special squads are tasked with hunting them down

Heroes who fuck up to many times are inducted into a special squad that engages in suicide missions their suits are replaced and they wear black armour with only the acedemy symbol and no cape, they are sent across the country to hunt OP rogues and bring them back to the academy to "study" or die trying. they can regain their capes if they survive enough missions

how about that?

german superheroes were "unknown" before the berlin wall collapsed
those that were previously identified as "superheroes" were un regulated and therefore "rogue" super heroes and should have no bearing on the German League

germany's new super heroes are not under the control of the government, but it has strict guidelines set forth from the UN and is fully supported by the german government and has a government liaison

a few older heroes have been accepted into the new german superhero union but they have been heavily scrutinised and have been forced to change their name and costumes. the leader of germans super heroes is a female
the training of these superheroes is undertaken by UN officials

they currently have a roster of 9 superheroes
(there is a high number of "rogues" in the country) this consists of

>a national team of 5
>two UN HERO charter members
>and two in training

rumours abound that many of the superhero powers are the result of Nazi experiments that have been passed on to descendants,

an official statement was given that all the Nazi era super hero's were killed during the war and that none survived *this statemennt was backed by American officials but Russian officials have stated that some war criminals of exeptional nature were granted clemency by the allied forces after the war. (WW2 Russian hero "Red Winter" is on record as saying that not many (heroes) survived Russia's advance but there was definitely 1 that survived)

Also, their female models REALLY aren't meant to have small breasts. A lot of the emblems end up being heavily distorted if you turn the slider down.

Anyhow. My attempt at working up Trinity. As with Blue Cobalt, I think I like the artist's version better. (Though I could probably go back and tweak my version of Blue Cobalt some... At the very least, I could give her some kneepads and get rid of the orange panties. Maybe find some spats to use.)

Most of this makes sense. Considering how most of the internal system is regulated and competitive, it's not surprising that being an international Japanese hero follows much the same trends as being one of Tokyo's Six Guardians. You may work with one set of Japanese heroes, but then two months later, you may not see the same members, as it turns out one or two of them were ousted by new challengers to their position on the international team.

What if the washed up/failed supers might be put into a death game/carnival ala Deadman Wonderland/Btoom!/Gantz ?

>Heroes who fuck up to many times are inducted into a special squad that engages in suicide missions their suits are replaced and they wear black armour with only the acedemy symbol and no cape, they are sent across the country to hunt OP rogues and bring them back to the academy to "study" or die trying. they can regain their capes if they survive enough missions

Not bad. Also is kind of the premise of Under The Dog.

Again, the artist's version of Doc Chase has a lot more character that I just couldn't replicate with CO. I probably should have made him a bit thinner and less bulky.

For scale, Chase hovers at around 6 feet, give or take an inch or two. Not immediately visible here is a wedding ring.

Took a few deviations from the original art. This time on purpose. I kinda liked the idea of the Baron having a top hat. Getting a coat with a tail was frustrating as hell, the vest layer kept clipping through them! Eventually I decided just to toss on a buttcape to give the illusion of flowing robes.

I've always equated the color purple with magic. So the Baron gets a lot of dark purple.

Again, not entirely happy with this. It didn't quite stick to the art as much as I'd like. But clipping's gonna be an issue with some things.

I wonder if the concentration of destructive superhumans in areas with densely concentrated populations and tall buildings would lead to Brutalism becoming the dominant architectural style in New York City as old buildings that suffer super-related damage are replaced with structures in the style of the time.
>>
>>47150875
There's probably an entirely unique building style in New York, given the fact that you have matter/magnetic/cement manipulating metas that could be rebuilding things at the drop of a hat?

You might have thick, serious buildings built off of the principles of Brutalism, but covered with all sorts of aesthetics that wouldn't be possible with normal construction techniques.

Here's an idea.
>Sentai represent different aspects of nature:
>Ground Ranger
>Sky Ranger
>Sea Ranger
>Animal Ranger
>Plant Ranger
>Enemies themed around tech and pollution
>Eventually one of the enemy lieutenants gets "purified" and becomes the Human Ranger
So basically Captain Sentai Planetger.

More importantly, though, I think they should have something to make them distinct, designwise, from the Toei Super Sentai. The first thing that comes to mind is rather than having a red ranger, a blue ranger, a green ranger, etc, give each of them a colour scheme with at least two main colours. Make them all distinct from each other, but don't have each be a single colour.

>Current topic: What would a real-life city be like in a world of supers? How would they become part of the city's culture?
I've been pondering Las Vegas a bit.

For starters: the casinos are going to employ a lot of countermeasures to stop subtle supers from screwing with things.

For another, I think super fights in the sky are going to be treated as entertainment.
Suuure, gladiatorial matches are frowned upon in modern society, but what are they gonna do when one participant is already outlaw and the other is doing commonly accepted heroics?
So the city would spawn a wave of "stargazing clubs" with transparent rooftops, and hell autocameras capturing and broadcasting the fights into screens.

The only big problem with Blue Cobalt is that CO doesn't have any ab windows. I had to layer over a kevlar vest for that effect. Still worked out, though.

The 90s jacket is one of the better jackets they have, imo.

Sadly, they don't have a thick turtleneck sweater. I was looking for it. Maybe it's a costume piece that I don't have. Adapt and overcome, though.

And, yeah, that drapes around in front. Sadly, there's no option for guys to have a standalone buttcape that I'm aware of. There's a magical girl buttcape for girls, but it's kinda frilly and fancy.

Magical Girls are managed by Magic Girl and her grandmother who was the first Magical Girl in Japan. They fight very abstract creatures with their magic. Depression monsters that feed on suicide and despair, and given Japan's suicide rate they frankly can't get enough Magical Girls.

There is of course rivalry and girls comparing themselves to others, but Magic Girl is quick to remind them that they are all special and that they are all needed. Needless competition and hurt feelings help the monsters.

Sentai are managed by the government. Lets take them back to their "government superspy team" roots. Think a little of Gatchaman as well. They work with the KINGs (Kamen Rider analogs) a lot (just like Sentai cross over with Kamen Rider a lot in real life) and their enemies are usually the evil organizations created by>>47143002.

They're constructed to fight the specific threat their organization of the month represents. Elemental themed rangers. Music themed rangers. Psychic themed Rangers. When their organization is destroyed they go into semi-retirement, always ready and on call to assist the newest sentia team,

They also serve as first responders to assist the Tokyo Guardians. If you're a badguy attacking Japan they're pick the sentai group best able to match and beat your abilities and send them after you. The Sentai program is one of the reasons Japan is such a safe place. They're able to quickly respond to and neutralize metahuman threats.

Mech users divide into reals which are military weapons (Japan long ago got its defense force upgraded back to a pesudo- military to assist neighboring nations in defending against Kaiju and Super Baddies. The upgrade is of course highly controversial inside and outside of Japan) and Supers which are like Mazinger and Getter usually piloted by semi-crazy hot blooded people and created by mad scientists.

I'm working with the idea of super robots being psychic projections (think green lantern ring constructs, sort of) created by their pilot/pilots. Sometimes this is overt with the super robot looking like Ultraman/EVA by way of a green lantern ring, being very fluid and organic looking. Sometimes its enhanced by an armored shell that protects (or limits) the psychic power. Think how Getters work with Gettery Rays. Sometimes the psychic force is so powerful it can only be contained inside the generator of a mechanical super robot and is called forth by the willpower of the pilots to accomplish great feats (G-stones, Spiral Energy, Mazin Power, etc).

I like this setup because it allows for the traditional 5-people VOLTRON style giant robots to have the subpilots be an active part of the battles. And because I'm a whore for new agey bullshit.

The first Super Robot was a tulpa controlled by a boy with a big imagination (think Tetsujin 28). The next was a thelema "Holy Guardian Angel" shell constructed around the pilot that cranked his Id to the max (Think single pilot supers like Mazinger). The next generation planned on tapping into the psychic power of multiple pilots at once to create a more stable super robot. Plans were drawn up to stick X number of pilots representing chakra/kabbalah sephirots/alchemical stages into a single psychic shell.

But attacks by enemy forces on the project base caused the hasty creation of CHANGE MAN with three pilots representing the id, ego, and superego...although all of them were a bit off.
C

CHANGE MAN was a shocking, unprecedented success. The fact that the pilots weren't perfectly aligned sparked their willpower to MAKE the alignment work. CHANGE MAN become a versatile battery of willpower. When one pilot felt his will or creativity was flagging they could CHANGE control with another pilot who would fight afresh.

>>
>>47156001
The shocking power of CHANGE MAN sparked controversy in and outside of Japan whether Japan should have such a mighty weapon.

But Japan needed such a weapon. During the 1950's teleportation experiments brought the entire sea of Japan in contact with an alien universe for all of two seconds. That was enough time for disaster to strike.

The ancient kami of Japan were awakened. Angry and pissed. Some were transformed and mutated by contact with the alien universe. And some kaiji came from the alien universe itself, strange alien beings that changed the environment with every step.

The terms "kami" and "kaiju" are often used interchangeably, even by Japanese natives. But technically "kami" refers to the ancient gods of Japan disturbed by the Teleportation Accident and "kaiju" refers to mutated kami or kami that came from the other universe.

Asthetic wise I think of the kami and kaiju being weird buggers. Think the stuff from Ultraman and Evangelion. They're also quasi-intangible and invisible to most forms of detection. Take the idea of Godzilla s walking fire bomb raid, living disaster, and expand on it. The kami/kaiju attack like tsunamis or hurricanes or earthquakes. You need sensitive super science tools to even give them a face let alone touch them.

Throughout the fifties and sixties the kaiju ran amuck on Japanese soil. Native kami battled alien kami battled mutated kami. There was little Japan could do besides attempt to herd the kami and kaiju away from populated areas and attempt to trick them into fighting each other. The semi-tangible nature of the kami and kaiju meant that few native and foreign supers could effect them. And the few that could were often busy with other problems, or couldn't arrive fast enough to capture the kami/kaiju before it dispersed back into the aether like godzilla going back into the waters.

-cont
>>
>>47156207
Japan felt scared and humiliated. 70 percent of kami/kaiju activity was confined to the sea of Japan. Only 10 percent ever threatened populated areas. And this 10 percent was kicking ass.

They needed a powerful, native solution to this problem or risk the entire country being lost.

Help came, surprisingly, from the weird universe itself.

In Supergods Grant Morrison talks a little on how Ultraman was the Japanese Superman. They fought threats that troubled Japan and America brought up to super-scales. Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and Kaiju all represented the fear that humanity was losing importance in the world. They represented the fear that science was dark and frightening and capable only of creating monsters, and Ultraman and Superman fought against that. They said the single, normal guy-Clark Kent or Shin Hayata, was important. They said that science could be a good, positive force for the world. Superman was a scientist (something many forget past the silver age) and the Legion of Superheroes said that he would help usher in a Star Trek golden age for humanity. Shin Hayata was a member of the SSSP. He was a science adventurer.

So I think it would be a very fitting twist if contact with the universe that created the kami/kaiju trouble was also the solution to the problem. If research into teleporation tech and constacting the alien universe was banned in Japan, but the alien universe, like Krypton and Nebula M78, did not give up on Earth even if Earth gave up on them.

The WORLD OF LIGHT at the heart of the alien universe observed what was happening in our world, and using their power sent a beam of light out through the darkness toward our world. A living beam of light, that would bond...

-cont
>>
>>47156406
A living beam of light that would bond with kaiju researcher and research ban protestor Joe Hiro. A champion that could defeat any kami or kaiju that Joe could summon with an Ultrasonic whistle.

THE MAN FROM LIGHT.

Or Man of Light. Not sure what sounds better.

The message, I feel, is a useful one regardless of decade. Do not give up on discovery and adventure. Man was not meant to hide their head in the sand like an ostrich. Man can overcome his problems through courage and adventurousness.

Also a nice metaphor for how Japan started to turn its economy around in the late sixties and begin to become a world superpower.

SHOULD I CONTINUE OR FUCK OFF?

yeah I was going to discuss how Japan manages to loophole against the no military laws(especially how it effects supers) through it's anti Kaiju, Alien, and Super Terrorism groups, especially as a lot of those groups are technically under the oversight of the National Police Agency and the National Public Safety commission, although some are corporate or academic backed with government oversight, and a very small but very competent contingent is part of the JSDF

There are
http://utohpia.pbworks.com/w/page/33038675/FrontPage
theese guys, but they abuse a bunch of minmaxy tricks to save points so the GM may slap you
(Example: there is a "conduit" flaw which in normal usage means that you need another character near you to make your powers work. All wonder twins like. Those guys apply it to devices, making it so that for example gaia memory has conduit flaw through the belt. And the belt has "requires key: gaia memory" just to squeeze out another point.)

Buut there's still some maybe useful things to dig out from.

And really, Meteor is easy.
He doesn't have switches, or multiforms.
He just has Henshin (metamorph power, or even just 1-2 Features for quick change and having the suit compact) and planets as an array of regular powers. Everything is in the Device container, slap in "requires authorization from satellite" to prevent Faizing. Feel free to include more planets too.
>>
>>47156586
Kind of, yeah. But it ranges from GL constructs to just having the psychic energy power the robot (because really, that's what Spiral Energy/Mazin Power/ G-Stones are in the end. Get more hyped and the robot gets stronger). That way you can play either big GL constructs or more traditional "robotic" robots.

>>47156524
The Man of Light beat back the kaiju/kami threat. His strange energy powers could effect even the most surreal of kami/kaiju.

But things started to get worse in the seventies. Evil organizations started to figure out how to "bait" Kaiju into attacking cities. Terrorists such as DR NIGHTMARE found ways to construct robotic shells around the living nightmares Magic Girl fought. The ILLUMIAN EMPIRE attacked from the alien universe, bringing an army of enslaved kaiju with them as living bio weapons. That 10 percent figure became 50.

Japan took inspiration from studying THE MAN FROM LIGHT and based their Super Robot programs on him and BIG GUY, the 1950's Tulpa created by an imaginative kid physic. They found that THE MAN FROM LIGHT was the result of Joe Hiro and an Alien Warrior bridging their consciousness across an infinity of power. The MAN FROM LIGHT was part alien mind, part Hiro mind, and so the course of development became "several minds in one body".

The ILLUMIAN EMPIRE was bested by CHANGE MAN, even when they forced it to deploy before the project could come to completion. DR NIGHTMARE was defeated by BEYONDION, the Mazinger analog. The original BEYONDION was destroyed in the final battle, becoming a living idea that attacked DR NIGHTMARE (who was a rare example of an aspect of DARK BOSS not associated with toku capes) at his source and created the historic "night without nightmares" where for one night in all of Japan everyone slept peacefully.

To reiterate from the last thread about Super Vegas:
>Vegas is still entertainment city, and what better entertainment than supers?

>Unlike Hollywood they're open about their super fights being staged. It's all apart of the show ladies and gentlemen. They also have "Super MMA" which attracts more gamblers than horse races. They also experiment with cutting edge entertainment. VR environments. Psychic landscapes. Casinos that grant you limited superpowers when you walk through the door. All made for or powered by supers.

>But Vegas' bread and butter has and always will be gambling.

>Culture wise Vegas is a great place for supers. The city works hard to attract and maintain a large super population. They have prestigious schools for superhuman children and plenty of lucrative employment options. Vegas supers are big on hierarchy. There are the "House Supers" at the top. Every big casino has two to three "mascot" characters that form their own in house super team. And at the bottom are the washouts. The super porn stars and jobbers that go 0-5 in "Super MMA".

>People get discarded by Hollywood for not toeing the line the agents set. People get discarded in Vegas by not being good enough.
>>
>>47157020
>Vegas Supers are highly trained and they're treated very well by the populace and casino owners, but they usually but heads with supers outside the city. The stereotype is that Vegas supers are "super entertainers" instead of super heroes. They aren't EMTs or peace keeper fighters like traditional supers and they don't use their powers to build homes or push the boundaries of science. They use their powers to entertain and make the big bucks, and a lot of supers find it a waste if not outright morally wrong. The typical Vegas Super response is that a person has the right to be an artist or a firefighter regardless of abilities. And indeed, the "Super art" scene which pushes the bounds of post modernism by incorporating super powers into displays and installation pieces is a big draw in Vegas.

>Arguably the best super themed museums and art galleries in the world are found in Vegas. The powers that be have used their connections to gather up the mementos of super-ages past. Some even build casinos themed around their collections of super memorabilia. "The Golden" is themed on WW2 Supers for instance. There's a lot of potential here. Maybe a memento is deadlier than it seems to be. Maybe the owner of the memento wants it back, arguing that legalities be damned it belonged to him in the past and it belongs to him not and certainly doesn't belong in a damn casino.

>The key to making Vegas work as a cape city is having each casino be themed around its mascots. Some go as far as to present their casino as a kind of "alternate reality" with their mascot heroes as the protectors of the little snow-globe world. "Super entertainment" is the popular buzzword the describe Vegas casinos. "Don't just watch heroes-be the hero!"

My take. Actually, I kind of cheated. The costume she's got is nearly identical to one of my pre-existing characters, I just thought about it and made a few changes (such as adding a belt, rather than a sash, nixing the hood, ditching the quiver, adding some hip and leg gear, and recoloring the entire thing.) Ignore how dark her skin is, the original character was an attempt at a Latina.

I decided to sweep her hair up into a bun because I wouldn't get a satisfactory short-haired option from CO and if she had long hair, a bun would be good for quick management and a hurried disguise. Plus, chopsticks as a last resort tool/weapon.

I could have gone with a traditional baggy ninja pajamas look, but honestly? The day for those is over. It could snag in barbed wire or trip a laser sensor or anything. No, tight outfits are better for modern obstacles. An armored vest, some shoulder plates, braces, and thick boots offer decent protection with minimal loss of stealth. The compartmentalized belt offers hidden ninja tools and breath mints. The visor...

I just like the idea of a psionic visor on the rare occasion that she turns her powers on. Purely cosmetic.
>>
>>47157034
>So the short version is that Las Vegas is still the Sin City we know and kinda love, the proverbial pleeasure dome of the USA, but instead of trying to dictate the super culture like Hollywood does, Vegas embraces it and even markets around it. Different establishments have their own in-house supers, and they regularly put on staged spectacles for entertainment; again, unlike Hollywood, everyone KNOWS it's entertainment. It's also a major font of super research and super history, ironically enough.

>In other words, Vegas supers are basically an extension of the Vegas culture. Both Hollywood and Las Vegas use supers as an entertainment industry. The difference is that Las Vegas is more honest about it and even allows for more self-expression.

>Single Unifying origin

I'm trying to link Kaiju to Super Robots (because culturally Super Robot developed out of Ultraman and Toku). But you are right, there needs to be diversity. I'm trying to create that diversity by including multiple threats (Aliens, Nightmare soldiers) and multiple "styles" of supers (Tulpas, Single Pilot Id monsters, Pure will expressions like CHANGE MAN, organized "All together now" Five Pilot robots, etc).

I'm trying to make a setting that's based on Japan's rich cape traditions without it being just "okay, lets play Ultraman meets Gundam". It's not easy, and its certainly not a final draft.

>>47156951
BEYONDION THE GREAT and BEYONDION SHIN would follow as more evil organizations began to use NIGHTMARE SOLDIERS.

In the seventies Super Robot developers started to "get back on track" with attempting to finish original designs for super robots. Second Generation super robots tended to be composed of 5 member teams and aiming around a chakra theme (crown and root were combined with third eye and sacral).

There was also a Sephirot themed Super Robot named AGATHION, but it accidentally ascended to a higher reality upon activation where it kicked off a "war in heaven" against a demiurge with plans on invading our reality, created a multiverse, and found love (as in the robot itself) before returning to our reality. (This is my take on "Fantasy" mechs like Dunbine, Escaflowne, etc). The mech is insanely powerful but widely destructive and only scrambled against doomsday threats (think something like Zeorhymer/ Shin Getter).

LEGIONIZER is an interesting super robot named so because it incorporates 100 psychics into one body under the direction of 4 psychic directors.

...I'm having trouble thinking of Super Robot threats. Anyone have good ideas?

Well, try this. Here's a couple of Super Vegas's signature villains.

>Mr. Black and Mr. Red, Supervillian gamblers.

>Mr. Black and Mr. Red are mysterious figures that constantly bet with each other. Are they bored gods? Interdimensional beings? Bored billionaires? Ploys by the powers that be to hype up Vegas? Whatever they are, they love gambling, especially when they can use Vegas as the board and its supers as the pieces.

>They usually kidnap someone or something priceless and hold them for ransom, usually cutting a deal with waxworks to make the abduction. They they opening up betting as they challenge super beings to solve their challenges. Think X-men's Arcade meets Die Hard 3. They're very careful to make sure no one dies during their gambles, lest they attract serious attention from higher level super groups. Most see them as nuisance, and the casinos tolerate their existence because their challenges bring in the big betting and provide a way to "prove" which casino has the better supers. Some believe they don't really exist but are instead created by he Las Vegas tourism board.

>Mr. Black and Mr. Red work through social media a lot, offering citizens the chance to vote on the next Big Caper. Their most common tactic is to force Casino supers to fight one another. "Loser has their Caino's fountain detonated", stuff like that.

>"Harmless" or not, the Las Vegas Security Force want them in the stir for continually thwarting their otherwise spotless record for apprehending super criminals, The mayor wants them busted even more for their association with waxworks. All this negative publicity and condemnation from the higher ups of Vegas give Mr. Black and Mr. Red an even greater aura of "premier Vegas bad guys".
>>
>>47157277
>Casino supers have mixed feelings about Mr. Black and Mr. Red, "The Roulette". Some see the drama they stir up ridiculous. Friendships between Casino supers have been broken over them fighting in their "games".

>"The Roulette" provides an interesting way to critically examine the "who will win" fetish in cape comics. People are obsessed with knowing which Casino super can kick whose ass, even if most just want to be entertainers. Most Casino capes are not fighters nor do they want to be fighters, but people demand they fight.

>They find it sad that the public seems to demand that they fight one another.

>Can't superpowers be used for something besides beating people up? Can't they be used to make people laugh or enjoy their evening without resorting to violence and high stakes?

>"Does a hero have to be a fighter" is the theme of "The Roulette".

>This is how Mr. Red and Mr. Black look when they appear through their hologram ransom-bots.

>Mr. Red draws on the folklore of "heroic" great depression outlaws such as Clyde Barrow and John Dillinger. He's a young looking guy in a red suit and tie. Looks something like a Chicago gangster. Wears his fedora with the brim down low and often carries a Tommy Gun

>Mr. Black draws on the Las Vegas cowboy bandit aesthetic. He looks older than Mr. Red and dressed in black like Johnny Cash. He has a black ten gallon hat (naturally) and conceals his face with a bandanna.

The heaven/hell casino where people could fly because the angel cape could levitate stuff was pretty neat. Ariel and Abdiel I think were the names of the capes?

What would a Cape team of artists be like? I'm thinking they could fight against rouge art projects or rival artists that want to perform "extreme" art installations.

I think the "draw" story cooked up was interesting. A Deathbattle sim (big in Vegas) shows a digital Minerva brutally kill a digital Venus, and Minerva is disturbed and angered at her image killing her best friend. And things get worse when The Roulette, super gamblers, order Minerva and Venus to fight or they dynamite the high roller suites and Minerva can't bring herself to throw a single punch.

Yes, there was another casino drawn up, which functions a lot like the Heaven and Hell party from Hitman: Blood Money (which I love).

>SUPER CASINO IDEA: PURGATORIA

>A Casino themed on heaven and hell. The upper levels are heaven themed and house super Abdiel has the power to levitate herself and others. People can fly in heaven, which is very classy and very neoclassical. The high roller rooms are in Heaven. Classical music plays.

>The lower levels are of course Hell themed. The dealers are scantily clad succubi. Women painted like demons (with caveats) sleep with slot machine winners. Ariel is the house super and uses her power over fire to perform a sexy hard rock show for sweaty, noisy masses every night.

>Ariel and Abdiel are depicted as rivals throughout the "lore" of the house even though they're best friends. Instead of betting on red or black you bet on Ariel or Abdiel. The two colors of the cards are Angel and Demon. The suits are Halo and Wings vs Horns and Tails.

>Ariel is loud, fun, and carefree. Think She-Hulk or Tigra. She helps the newer and more reserved Abdiel get used to life in Vegas. Abdiel wants to be a serious artist like the post-modern artists in the gallery section of the city, but is nervous that she'll only be seen as a house super. Ariel encourages her to take that risk and get her levitation artwork out there.

Real Robots came about in the late seventies (with Gundam) and the late seventies in Cape World is when Japanese scientists opened a stable gate to the weird universe.

At these gate points Kaiju can be studied and even domesticated for use (kaiju power plants provide nearly endless energy without causing discomfort to the kaiju. The devices just passivley siphon off excess energy).

20 years later Japan learns how to better use kami/kaiju tech to the point where its possible to summon/control certain kami/kaiju (reflecting the capsule monsters in later Ultraman series and the mon craze of the 90's).

Back in the late seventies, the World of Light can finally establish contact with humanity, begins a peaceful exchange of art and some technology (as the physics of the two universes are different the technology isn't too compatible). Humanity has only penetrated very little of the "dark" universe surrounding the world of light, so BEINGS OF LIGHT manifest like weak, shimmering shadows of light. But just as before they have been able to focus all their might to beam mighty champions to Earth (representing all the different Ultras).

But the vast new cosmos of the strange universe presented a new problem that would lead to conflict. There's a lot of space between Earth and the World of Light. A lot of potentially habitable space on weird physics defying mineral deposits.

You can see where this is going.

Think the standard "Earthnoid vs Spacenoid" plot of the Gundam series. Humanity scrambles to colonize the strange universe. The result is a political minefield. Some colonies become echo chambers of dangerous ideology cut off from Earth. One fanciest itself a "Neo Japan Empire" . One sees the World of Light as enemies to be dethrone by Humanity. Some want to conquer Earth believing that human raised "Hyperdimensionaly" are morally superior to humans whose souls are constricted by 3 dimensions.

Mr. Red was easy enough. Chicago outlaw, circa 1930s? Sounds like an excuse for a bowler derby and a pinstripe suit, to me. Maybe a fedora would've done better, but I like derbies.

The marking on his face, well. I think of these guys and I think playing card suites. Red diamonds, black spades...

Turns out that my munitions character had his powers reworked since I last played. Had to go and redo him real quick so that I could choose machine gun and pistol skins.

The political situation becomes even more unstable when the HYPERDIMENSIONAL colonies start developing HYPERDIMENSIONAL war machines. Quick, powerful, durable, these war machines can teleport themselves as well as their energy shots/missiles. Some particularly resource expensive HD FIGHTERS are powerful enough to rival the world's strongest metahumans.

HD FIGHTER conflicts are largely restricted to the strange universe. The colonies fight mostly among themselves. But when the fighting threatens to spill over into Earth the HYPERDIMENSIONAL PEACE CORE or HDPC is tasked to wage war...to prevent war.

Metahumans are sometimes called into the HD COLONIES to assist the HDPC. And Colonies sometimes recruit Metahuman mercenaries to bolster their forces.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE HD COLONIES? IS IT TOO INCONGRUOUS FOR THE SETTING OR IS IT A NICE PIECE OF "OUT OF THE WAY" COLOR LIKE ATLANTIS OR THE SAVAGE LANDS?

well at least one Overlord Darkness incarnation I mentioned in >>47143002 would be a Super Robot antagonist, one of them was meant to be an analogue to Emperor Gore from Getter Robo

also here's a enemy concept I've had lying around that would be a good fit for this;

GRENDAL: an alien ecosystem invading from the hell dimension codenamed "Pellucidar"(different dimension from the one that most Kaiju come from), Grendal lifeforms tend to appear to be a mixture of traits of reptilian, arthropodal, and fungal life, ranging from the six foot and under "Imp" vermin, to the ten foot "Goblins", all the way to the skyscraper sized "Dragon" class

the Grendal first emerged in the mid-70's, swarming from the living island that would be code-named "Caspak" and invading across southeast and southern Asia, east Africa, western South America, and all over Oceania

the existence of Grendal is what allowed Combat Mecha to become more than a curiosity for military purposes, as Combat Mecha proved to be the most effective mass producible method of fighting them(Nuclear weaponry has almost no effect on Grendal life, and most other WMD's in existence have either proven ineffective or too dangerous to use on them), currently most Grendal are confined to quarantine zones in the countries they invaded, as well as Caspak itself(which has proven itself to be impenetrable to any long term assault), with the main threat coming from the occasions where Caspak spawns off a new Living Island and sends it floating off to attack humanity, most suspect a new spawning wave will happen any day now...

Moving into the 80's and 90's Japan becomes one of the most peaceful countries on Earth. The HD COLONIES tend to fight in their own universe. The city destroying battles between kaiju/kami and super robots die down to skirmishes.

Occasionally big battles break out from time to time but its nothing like America where a CRISIS threatens all of reality just about every year and insane Joker/Kind Miracleman super villains turn entire cities into abattoirs.

With this new peace Japan begins to focus on peacefully integrating kaiju and kami into a mutually beneficial ecosystem for humanity and their kaiju/kami neighbors. The GREAT NEIGHBORS (needs a better name) initiative trains local metahumans, particularly in rural areas where kami like to nest away from disturbances, to keep the peace between humans and kami/kaiju.

The idea is to bring peace to the lake spirit before it becomes made enough to be a tsunami spirit and attract LEGIONIZER or one of the other super robots to deal with it.

One of these teams is managed by the apprentice of Magical Girl, a teenage tomboy from the country nervous about leading her own super team. Her best friend and rival is FLYING MIKO, another magical girl whose family has a long tradition of managing kami (think Mothra's fairies or King Caesar's singer lady).

FLYING MIKO is rather miffed at the tomboy for being chosen to be Magic Girl's apprentice over herself, even if she is her best friend. Magic Girl's reasoing was that even though FLYING MIKO is the stronger magician, her powers came naturally and ready to her. The tomboy (name please!) has to work to control hers from a young age. She knows first hand what its like to not have control, and that gives her a special empathy with both wild kaiju/kami and young magic users.

HOW DO YOU LIKE TEAM GHIBLI SO FAR? IS THE TOMBOY/FLYING MIKO DYNAMIC OKAY?

Like the descriptions said. Older than Mr. Red. Like Mr. Red, he's got some accents from his other half coloring his outfit. Unlike Mr. Red, he's got no other colors. Whether that means he's more set in his ways or if he's the more reliable bet, less of a wildcard, that's up to someone else to decide.

He's slightly thinner than Mr. Red. A bit more collected. Like Paladin, he probably carries a small, two-shot derringer in his belt buckle.

The fact that the two of them lack pupils is a nod to their mysterious origins.

Ahaha, I'm not sure I want to, to be honest! Desinging costumes in CO takes me between thirty minutes for your average cape and over an hour for robots/mechs/powered armor users. There used to be an item in CO called the Wrapped Scarf that had long, trailing tails like a cape. It's still there, but the trailing bits aren't. Probably bugged out. Thus the relatively small wrap there.

Still, I was approaching it for a more tactical approach. If pushed, I'd have to admit a certain fondness for the poofy ninja pants. A shame that they aren't actually available in CO. The closest they've got is a texture for Santa costume.

TEAM GHIBLI (placeholder name)

TOMBOY MAGICAL GIRL (Placeholder name). I see her looking like an older Yellow from Pokemon Special. Big hats are cool. Pic related.

FLYING MIKO: I think this is a pretty good name. I see her being too well-bred to care about her cape name so she just goes with what the newspaper called her the first time she showed up. A Flying Miko.

PSYCHIC POKEMON KID (Placeholder name): During on of AGATHION's battles a kaiju from the strange universe started seeding the souls of a large city with its eggs.

Some of the eggs survived the battle. Some of the people survived the eggs hatching, and are now bonded to kaiju that they can feel and summon through the psychic aether.

This kid was seeded with an egg when he was two years old. He has a strong instinctual understanding of his kaiju having grown up with it. It is an animal, and sometimes he has to fight it down to prevent it from destroying things and other times it comforts him like a pet dog. Think less Lovecraftian horror and more like one of the wolf kami from Princess Mononoke but very, very alien.

The kaiju and the boy would, for all the times they have battles of will, would die for each other. When their anger is combined at a target they can unleash terrible force.

The community of "bonded" humans can also provide a way to incorporate mon elements into the wider CAPE WORLD. They also encapsulate the theme of TEAM GHIBLI. Kaiju and Kami are like nature. They're big, mysterious, scary, and often destructive. But they don't HAVE to be. People are creative enough to live in harmony with inhuman elements of their environment.

Think almost noblebright Lovecraft if that makes any sense.

HOW MANY MEMBERS SHOULD BE ON TEAM GHIBLI ANYWAY? WOULD 2 MORE BE OKAY?

Sorry to interrupt the world building, but there's something I'm wondering for a campaing I'm making:

How would the UN (or whoever makes the rules about it) rule about metahumans in the army?

I'm guessing they can't outright ban them like nuclear or biological weapons, since they are humans and have rights and freedoms. But they probably would lay down some rules on where and how they can be used, like you can't just use metahuman units against normal humans in open warfare unless the other side has metas too, or if they have a numerical advantage, or if you're being invaded. Maybe metas have to be restrictd to meta-only units and those have to be registered like a country has to inform how many nuclear weapons they have.

I imagine countries would keep meta units more as a protection against other countries metas and as a PR thing. Maybe some black ops stuff, but it would be hard with metas being pretty identifiable, by their powers if nothing else.

What do you guys think?

Do you know how there are weird contradictions in Arthurian myth? The names of the knights, the amount of them, the way Arthur got his sword? Sure, it's just how any oral story works, it changes over time. But there's another reason for it.

You see, Camelot existed twice in our history and Arthur lived at least twice, when the Isles needed him most. First time, in late 5th century as Artorius the Dragon. Second time, as Arthur Pendragon in 14th century. And now...

ARTHUR DRAKE is a 19 year old young man of Welsh origin. Raised by a foster family, he's humble, honest and hard working. A construction worker by trade.
About 7 months ago, while flattening a hill for a new house, he came across an old scabbard made of metal and leather. Walking home later that night, he was attacked by a small gang that tried to mug him. He fought them off, but not before getting stabbed in his stomach. By the time the scuffle ended, he was dressed in a blooded mess but his flesh good as new.
One thing came after another and a few months later a burly man in a red hoodie was fighting crime in the night streets. An empty scabbard on his back made people start calling him their knight. He kinda likes the idea.

TL;DR: King Arthur is back, but he's just beginning. He's got his old scabbard but the sword is still gone.

The town is up for grabs, I'm not a brit and have no idea what would be appropriate.
The scabbard gives its wielder pretty massive healing factor, makes it easier to train and alleviates the need for sleep and nourishment.

I think some other knights might get reborn, but the majority of them should be new ones.
Also, Merlin, Nimue and Morgan are probably still alive
>>

And I imagine, quite a few metas are generic enough. All those super-strong, super-tough and possibly super-fast super-soldiers
>>

Ohhhh I really like this. Especially the psychological twists we could do. How much of him is Arthur Drake and how much of him is Arthur, the Once and Future King?

It'd be interesting to see him assemble a Neo-Round Table of reincarnated knights.

I imagine the reunion with Lancelot, Gwen, and Mordred will be awkward as hell.

Also, I want to see him try to extend Camelot into problem areas in CAPE WORLD. The countries ran by Dr. Dooms and the planets ran by Mongols. Camelot was an empire. He beat up bad rulers and incorporated them into Camelot.

I almost want to say have the Neo-Round Table be The Authority, but replace the cocksure murderhoboing with honor and mercy.

The UK has at least two major claims to fame when it comes to supers and super-related phenomenon: industrialization, and the fae. Lots of nature and spirit-focused heroes arise from the UK, as do bastions of technology. The UK's history is long and large, so there's lots of iconography to draw from. They also have a healthy serving of aquatic-based heroes, since the English Navy is so famous and all.

I don't think he knows he's King Arthur yet. For now, he's just a guy with a magic scabbard. But yes, once he learns it somehow, he'd be a doubt central.

Now for Toku.

KING: Kinetic Integrated Negentropic Godhead

The first Rider was a cyborg, and so was the first KING. He was abducted by one of the organizations controlled by the GREAT FORMLESS DARKNESS. His goal was to create a body through which he could pour all the power that he had that was divided across time and space.

He failed. The will of the first KING was far too strong and he broke free and dedicated himself to fighting back against THE GREAT FORMLESS DARKNESS regardless of what form he would take.

But fighting back against the very mind of the GREAT FORMLESS DARKNESS had a side-effect neither KING nor the GFD foresaw.

Throughout time and space, be the threat magical, technological, or whatever, a noble man with a pure heart will find a device to transform himself into a KING to fight against the threat.

A KING doesn't show up at every single manifestation of the GFD, but a KING shows up at most of them. He's the shining shadow of the dark god.

When he tried to force his evil soul onto the soul of the first KING he infected himself by the contact. He can't help but produce a KING to counter himself. This reflects how a lot of early riders were cyborg warriors created to fight for the bad guys but always rebelled.

Occasionally a KING NODE is created. A KING NODE is a KING that has the ability to draw upon the powers, forms, and abilities of a group of KINGS (think Decade, or a lot of modern Riders that have "Callback" modes).

Just throwing on some KINGs. Far from Conclusive.

KING: Vanilla Original flavor. A powerful cyborg who fought against the Sunrise Empire, a conspiracy of Imperial Japanese remnants and Nazis that sought to take over the world and replace all governments with "perfect" cyborgs.

His finishing move was KINGGG STRIKKKKE in which he channeled the power of his internal battery into powering a vibrating super-sword that could cleave atoms. Ever sense then KINGs have tended to have at least one of their finishing moves involve powering up a sword for a final strike.

KING MIRROR: Fought against the Mirror Universe Empire, a universe accessed through reflective surfaces that created monsters based on the reflected evil of human desires. A very powerful KING, he's like a good version of Mirror Master. He can attack people through mirrors. He can reflect attacks. He can clone himself. His finisher involves cutting the target with a portal to the mirror universe.

KING HELL: A KING given his transformation device by his pretty psychopomp sidekick following a Near Death Experience. He's "Hell Biker" themed. Like Ghost Rider. He hunts down escapees from hell summoned by Yakuza members to form THE GHOST MAFIA. His finishing move involves using a sword of coldest ice made at the lowest levels of hell.

Kay and Mordered are the token bad boys that butt heads with Arthur. Like a softer good guy version of Starscream and Megatron.

Mark Millar wrote Kickass, Wanted, and Nemesis.

Kickass is the direct opposite of the movie. When the main character confesses that he's not gay to the chick he's hanging out with, she insults him, then hooks up with a random dude and sends pictures of her sucking his dick to him. In the sequel, the villain knows Kickass had a crush on her, so he gang rapes her after killing the cool old dude that Kickass formed a superhero team with, cutting off his dog's head, and putting it on the old dude's head.

Wanted features a scene where villains walk into a police station and the police aren't allowed to interfere as they rape and murder everyone inside.

Nemesis has the villain force this guy's daughter to fuck her gay, retarded brother until she gets pregnant, then rigs her womb to collapse if they try for an abortion.

His Authority run had the Authority move from being violent protectors of humanity to a group of drunken assholes who throw parties all the time. His first set of villains includes an opposite team of Avengers, including a Commander America who rapes literally everyone he beats up, including Apollo. Another story in his run features one feminist, vegetarian Buddhist being forcibly mindwiped into a 50s housewife, the super strong gay dude turned into a punching bag (who's nearly raped), and the supergenius chick with nine pints of liquid nanomachines pumping through her veins having her blood replaced with a HIV-positive heroin addict and mindwiped into believing that she was in an abusive marriage with a husband who raped her, with a set of kids (actually evil paid child actors) who made her life miserable, and working a low-end job as a grocery bagger.

Oh, and he helped come up with the first Civil War. He also wrote Trouble and the Unfunnies, widely recognized as two of the worst comics ever printed.

It's not that he's a bad writer. He can be fucking AMAZING. But left to his own devices, he's the ultimate edgelord.

>What would a Cape team of artists be like? I'm thinking they could fight against rouge art projects or rival artists that want to perform "extreme" art installations.
They probably wouldn't be far removed from any typical artists. Supers can simply afford to be a bit more esoteric and artsy-fartsy every once in a while. You still have the typical painters and sculptors and whatnot, and Vegas encourages them.
>>
>>47159868
Wanted was Frank Millar I think.

Nemesis was so bad its wonderful. Like the Plan 9 of comic books. Booby trapped abortion proof womb. Just think. He made mega bucks off writing that.

As the guy that's done 80 percent of the world building so far I'm going to try and go back and work on Vegas. I agree its been rather airy. The only real story I've squeezed out of it has been the Minerva vs Venus one.

I want to do something with super artists. And maybe some sort of "event" where the city gets placed under a force field.

That's sort of been my inspiration with Cape World. Even Astro City which is a based as fuck comic tends to be rather meh when it covers capes outside its own city and the USA, baring that one really cool story about a small town country super.

Frank Miller. And, no, he had nothing to do with Wanted. He was busy going crazy after 9/11 and writing All Star Batman and Robin.

History

Wu Mei-Xing was a theoretical physicist obsessed with discovering the Higgs Boson, the so-called "God particle." She succeed in her quest, but a breach in a particle accelerator exposed her to the boson's weird energies. Following the accident, Wu had a one-night stand that revealed that her power to easily become pregnant and give birth to legions of short-lived superhuman soldiers. The Chinese government promptly drafted her into service, naming her the Mother of Champions.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Super-Fecundity: Mother of Champions is able to conceive and gestate children at superhuman speeds, and can give birth up to twenty-five identical super-soldiers in three days. These children are short-lived, however, and they only live for a week aging up ten years within 24 hours. She was once kidnapped by Talia al Ghul to have her produce her own super-soldiers, and was giving birth non-stop while being subdued in a birthing tank.

Radiation Immunity: She is immune to all known radiation, from radiation poison to ionizing radiation.

Self-Subsistence: While she does need to breathe like everyone else, the Mother of Champions no longer has the need to eat.

I imagine it's treated on a country by country basis, like the United States has a proud tradition of Supers in the Military, ironically despite how problematic Vietnam was for the rest of the military, it's supers were minimally used there and thus had almost no atrocities on it's record

meanwhile Communist and former Communist countries have a tendency to shove as many of their Supers into military service as possible, which leads to many of theirs fleeing into organized crime for protection

THE LAS VEGAS UNIVERSITY FOR METAHUMAN RESEARCH

Dr. Sherman: A non powered character that could be useful in stories as a "focus" character. He's a doctor of sociology and studies how superhumans impact society. He believes that, for better or worse, Las Vegas will become a model for post-scarcity post-humanity America. Everyone becomes glamorous super humans who carry out "games" with points instead of money to stave off boredom. He believes that by studying Las Vegas he can find ways to ease the transition into a post-scarcity society of superhumans.

This gives him the excuse to bop around all of Las Vegas and take the reader with him studying things.

Dr. Almagest: Another non-powered doctor. She studies super human communities and subcultures in contrast to Sherman who studies metahuman impact on society at large. She studies the art community, the Defense Force, the Super MMA community, and the House Supers.

She also ties into an idea I've been kicking around that draws on the US's history of cults, communes, and isolated utopias. Little isolated superhuman led communities dotted mostly in the mid west that some see as expressions of freedom and others see as potential domestic terrorists. A group of Superhumans composed of members both in and outside these communities wants to set up a kind of confederacy so that these communities can exchange ideas and culture and avoid descending into isolation and stagnation.

How this idea relates to Vegas is that someone gets the bright idea of turning a casino into its own self-sufficient nation complete with super human protectors. An entire world inside a skyscraper casino. I got inspired by the insular, pretty nature of casinos. They're like giant snowglobes or doll houses. Very self-contained.

More like Japanese Teams at this point. I really world built the fuck out of Japan. Their mechas have more development than Vegas, and I'm working to correct that imbalance right now.

New York should play off being UN headquarters in real life.

Its not just the United Nations in Cape World. New York is the place where alternate realities, timelines, and alien kingdoms send their representatives.

Pocket dimension embassies. Little "China Towns" of alien cultures. New York City is fucking insane in Cape World, which leads it to have a rather high super human crime rate and in turn a large super hero population.

NYC is also the place where giant monsters are studied, where the worst super criminals are housed, where the doctor Pyms and Richards come to talk shop.

It's a Wonderland and a powder keg, and the international community looks upon it with a mixture of wonderment and horror.

It's been unstuck form reality 7 times. Converted into a medieval fantasy world twice. Invaded by aliens 12 times. Invaded by ghosts three times. And declared war on its mirror universe counterpart.

NYC is about pushing the envelope of the bizarre. It's about going to Grant Morrison levels of out there and going even further. It can also be a tiring place to live in. Think of how quickly people get burnt out on "end of the world" event comics.

When the world almost ends every week you can find yourself not caring about the world. When the wonderful becomes mundane a little magic is lost. NYC's theme should be about finding a happy balance between super and normal, between the present and future, and between foreign and native.

For example, after 9/11, Spider-Man snapped and went into an insanely deep depression, because NYC was his territory, and he couldn't stop the attacks. After Hurricane Katrina, Thor tried to help the relief effort and personally apologized to some of the victims because he wasn't there to protect them.

A shame they keep reworking his powers.

First his powers came from his magic rod and medallion.

Then his powers came from his suit.

Then his suit only regulated his natural energies, meaning that he was absurdly powerful on his own.

Then he was stronger the closer he was to England.

Then his power came from Avalon/Otherworld, and it depended on him being near it.

Then his power rose and fall depending on his confidence in himself.

I mean, shit. Usually when you change a guy's power source that much, you also end up changing the powers themselves. Brian's stayed a flying brick for most of his career, but good luck finding a writer these days who remember that he can also create and manipulate force fields.

You know since we're on the topic of Alan Moore, and I have just discovered that the /hsg/ characters exist in the same universe as the hollywood team and we're discussing these international supers I had an idea for Great Britain.

To reflect the more cynical and weird nature of British comics (stuff like "The Spider", "The Steel Claw", and "Miracleman"), England would be home to a supervillain team, rather than a super hero one. And perhaps heroic supers exist there, but they're more antiestablishment or operate on a street level by nature (V for Vendetta and Judge Dredd perhaps?)

Britain isn't supervillain central, but its got a villain team as its representative.

The Amazons are like the old Legends rules about Mandalorians. They accept anyone as long as you follow their culture.

Unfortunately, their culture is pretty backwards. They're old-school Greeks and never really moved past it, so assured are they that their way is blessed by the gods. They keep slaves, they don't really keep track of modern technology, and they use traditional methods for everything. However, they do apparently have some powers on their side. Whether it's the gods or their collective belief reshaping reality, their warriors are supernaturally fast and strong, their armor is nearly impenetrable, and their spears and arrows can punch through a warship's armor.

However, this only applies for as long as the Amazon retains possession of the arms and armors. In the hands of any outsider, their weapons are cheap iron age pieces of shit and seemingly normal wooden spears and arrows. As soon as an Amazon picks it up again, however, each weapon or shield is as powerful as it was before she lost possession.

They're largely self sufficient and the only real outside income they have are from historians and filthy rich people who come to beg for their curative potions.
>>

That said, it's not unheard for Amazons to travel abroad once in a while. They're not truly isolationist as some folks perceive, and they generally try to keep tabs on events in the greater world.

Hence Minerva, who just so happened to arrive in Vegas, initially got confused about Caesar's Palace, and eventually found steady work as its house super. News of the world generally comes to her, and she's learning to acclimate to modern society (granted, in Sin City, but still). She still keeps in contact with the Amazon islands. As expected, she has most all the Amazon hallmarks: super-strong, super-fast, blessed armaments. She can even fly.

>England supers have a bit more edge than most

To an extent I agree. I think it would be cool to headquarter a big time supervillain team in it. It also ties in to the Neo-Roundtable. The Arthurian stories always had an edge. Someone was always betraying someone or carrying a grudge. Even Arthur killed babies.

It shouldn't be -too- edgy though. Its a line we'll have to tread carefully.
>>
>>47161216
Would Minerva be like a big sister figure to Venus? Would Venus be a "normal" super girl?
>>
>>47161218
I think so, too. Again, a lot of the edginess of the 80s was a reaction to the politics at the time.

England probably has more street levels than is proportionate to its population, but a lot of them are more making a political point than looking for a career as a superhero. While heroing in Japan is shaped by the cultural politics, and heroing in Germany is ruled entirely by politicians, Britain's heroes are making statements ABOUT politics. Very few of them have long careers, but the ones that stick around for more than a few months are generally there for decades. Who's the villain and who's the hero sometimes changes depending on which news source is reporting the fight.

Not to say that they don't fight normal crime. Some of them do! Hell, you've got the Neo-Roundtable types who are a shining beacon of what they could be, if you ignore the fact that sometimes they walk out a fight wiping bloody swords off on rags.

Venus is a Vegas native (the name is her stage/cape name) and is, for all intents and purposes, a regular super. Venus technically has seniority on Minerva within Caesar's Palace itself, but she never acts upon it. She's basically Minerva's guide to Vegas and was a major component of the Amazon's acclimation. This is in part due to Venus thinking Amazons are wicked fucking cool.

Oh definitely agree on that. But there wasn't exactly a lot of broad super heroics in british comics, even in the 50's and 60's.

I have an admittedly limited experience that amounts to pouring through an inherited collection of 2000AD mags, and a couple of books. Scifi and fantasy seems to be a stronger theme (Trigan Empire being about Space Rome, Dan Dare and Flash Gordon stuff) and then this sort of horror or villainy angle (The Spider was the king of crooks, The Steel Claw was a murderous thief that turns invisible).

Oh and Beano/Dennis the Menace. But thats not super stuff. and its been forever since I read any so I can't really say.

THE IRREGULARS

Britain's premier Super Villain Club. Specializing in "Theft, Murder, and Blasphemy" as their motto puts it sense Victorian times. The only requirements to join are that you be a murderer wanted by the law with special skills or abilities. For the right price they will "do anything to anyone, anytime and anyplace".

The only rule members follow is to "never under any circumstance inconvenience the livelihood of a fellow club member upon the pain of slow and painful death"

They are rumored to have a history as far back as the English Civil War as a team of witch and faerie hunters before becoming Cromwell's secret police. But how much of this is true and how much is propaganda remains to be seen. But it is true that Faeries and their kin have a bitter hatred of The Irregulars.

Previous incarnations fought against HG Wells and Sherlock Holmes before WW1. They were broken as an internal criminal empire after the death of Head Member Professor Moriarty and only regained power slowly during the world wars where they sold their abilities as spies and assassins to all sides.

Using captured German supers, scientists, and secrets as leverage they positioned themselves as a Top-Top Secret branch of the post-war UK government.

They were the boogie men. They were the secret holders. But in the mind-twisting atmosphere of the sixties/seventies super spy scene (Think the Prisoner with actual reality warpers, telepaths, and other fun elements) no one knows exactly what they did or why they did it.

Modern "Anarchist Superspy" SHADOW PUPPET works to this day to uncover the secerts of the "Super Spy" era. It is largely thanks to his efforts that the Irregulars were purged (or were they?) from the government in post-Thatcher England.

But the Irregulars are never...regular. They always adapt to survive. The current incarnation focuses on multinational assassination and terrorism with a side helping of corporate spying and sabotage.

They no longer hide behind government smokescreens, but now they don't need to.

JACK: Ancient Smoke Monster with an appetite for sin.

He claims, at times, to be Jack the Ripper, Jack of the Lantern, Jack Frost, the "true" story behind Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula, Richard III, and Puck.

Sometimes he claims to be all these things. Sometimes none. But Jack is an old Irregular. Maybe even the oldest. And he milks the association with Jack the Ripper for all its worth. He appears as a Victorian in a dark coat and top hat-Jack the Ripper.

But people that get a look at him behind the smoke and darkness-and there are few of them-report that he's more than a man. "His face goes on forever and his teeth are nightmares".

The Irregulars keep Jack on a short leash. They only kill when they're paid to kill, but Jack likes to kill and then do horrible things to the body. Fortunately he never asks for a paycheck. Or food. Or lodgings. When he isn't called he simply does not appear, vanishing in a fog until he appears again.

He just asks for victims. And the Irregulars have plenty to offer him.

Those that have spoken to him say that Jack is a polite, skilled conversationalist well versed in history and art but harbors an intense, fiery hatred for women.

THE WARLOCK: Evil Wizard in the MR James vein.

The Warlock rivals Jack for "oldest member of the Irregulars" by a certain theory that goes around. There have been several Warlocks throughout the ages. The first Warlock was supposedly a sorcerer that Cromwell sold his soul to in exchange for England, and each proceeding Warlock has been a master of the dark arts that killed the last, but the theory is that he's always been the same Warlock. He just changes his appearance and eats souls to keep young, or he switches bodies with a person before he dies.

Warlock is the closest The Irregulars has to a leader. He keeps tabs on everyone and makes sure no one betrays the club. He prefers to work hands-off, although he is extremely powerful he detests direct confrontation. He prefers to send demons, ghosts, and monsters to attack those that threaten him.

Many think Jack is one of his demons, but he denies this. He absolutely won't say what Jack is claiming to have "made an arrangement" with him. He is the only Irregular that appears to have any kind of control over Jack, being able to give him orders and call him off when he gets too wild. But even his control is at times very thin.

Warlock is an epicurean. He likes the finest foods and the finest wines and patrons the finest establishments of London. In his spare time he like to write in a book of jagged, ugly letters spelling out horrible, horrible things and to paint impressionistic hellscapes with shrieking faces contorted in pain.

He has killed innocents before, but claims to prefer to punish the guilty. He claims that the more sinful a person is the more "the laws of my magic" allow him to get away with doing to that person.

>>47161897
It's one of those "maybe" things about his origin. Many have noted the similarities he has with Overlord Darkness. Perhaps The Warlock made a deal with him at one time and Jack is the result?

Arthur was brought up by the Savage family. Hector and Elise were strict but fair parents and helped shape young Drake into who he is. Now, their daughter took less well to her upbringing.

CASSANDRA SAVAGE is Arthur's foster sister. A bit less than two years older than him, she was always a wild child and a delinquent prone to getting in trouble. She often felt that she, as her parents' real child, deserved more love than she was given (which is abount the same Arthur was), which led to her getting in trouble, which led to her being chastized. At least, she didn't blame her brother for it.

She grew up to become a razor-tongued stunner with a mean streak. Now the bruises and scrapes she recieved were less often from falling off a tree and more from alleyway fights and rough sex.
Arthur had to bail her from police a few times, had to help her fight off big guys she insulted dozens of times.

About 7 months ago, she was awoken at night by her bed breaking. She managed to grow to 14 feet somehow. Freaking out at first, she called her brother. By the time he arrived, she was normal height. A fortnight later, a paper she was holding caught flame. Slowly she found a way to control these powers, but kept silent about them.

Appearance of a crime fighter called the Knight in her neighborhood awoke a heroic streak in her too. She doesn't go overboard, but always carries a mask with her, so any assholes trying to mug someone in her line of sight get a faceful of a burning oversized fist. She mockingly calls herself Godzilla, but the media decided her hame is Wildfire. Not that she complains.

TL;DR: Huge bitch with flaming fists

Getting some sleep. I'm thinking of several more guys to add to the Irregulars, including one based on The Spider meets Kraven the Hunter.

It's really fun to focus on the baddies. Maybe next thread topic will be super baddies?

Anyway, the theme of the Irregulars is "gentlemanly evil". They're very aristocratic, very genteel. At least in terms of appearances.

You meet The Warlock at a social function and see he's engrossed in an old, dusty book. You think "absent minded professor of folkore"...until you look over his shoulder and find the letters are shivering.

That's the kind of creepy evil I want for the Irregulars.

So now that we got designs, I figure I'd try them out together in regulation Team Pose.

These are rough outlines but I'd like to hear peoples thoughts anyways.

I think the more important question is have Blue Cobalt and Psinobi experimented with each other after a long hard sparring practice ?

Its a definite possibility.

I have to admit there are a lot of them popping up now, so I don't think I'd be able to them all. Also in some cases there are also some pretty fitting images as is (like Minerva and Venus).

Long story short. It depends.

>Perhaps The Warlock made a deal with him at one time and Jack is the result
Warlock is probably one of the few villains that Overlord Darkness would view as an equal worthy of the respect that entails(different from the respect given to a worthy underling or a persistent enemy), indeed while OD usually has his own organizations handle the dirty work, I'm sure he's gone to The Irregulars for certain jobs before

also now I'm wondering if in the United States, there might be an equivalent to the Guild of Calamitous Intent, maybe play up the Union aspects even more than Venture Brothers does

Now that you mention it, we do have a lot of /shg/ characters. Is anyone actually pastebining or saving this stuff?

Like we had >>47162398 all stated out for MnM.

you know how after WW2 the allies made deals with nazi scientists to get their research and shit so the russians didn't. and the russians got real shitty about it
i was thinking something long the lines like that happened but with superheroes. one or two survived and were taken in by america after the war.

i am thinking of a socially acceptable super hero fight club.
started out as a small fight club for weak meta's in some shitty casino and then grew in popularity until now its a huge event with the city endorsing it
heroes from all across the nation come to participate in this "SUPER MMA" which is typically hosted out in the desert (to avoid collateral damage) but they are televised through shit tonnes of cameras and drones
rumours abound that the fights are rigged, also they have begun inviting superheroes from other countries to compete

any known super hero is banned from gambling at a casino,

Artistic super heroes often have mock fights in the sky which usually involve colourful and extravagant displays of powers, this is encouraged by city officials and casino's "sponser" these events

you like?

i could give it a try if you want?
