Welcome back, Kestrels, to the eighteenth installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest! As always, you are Admiral Roarke Susan Starwind, whose only known alias in the UJCIDF Bounty Computer system is "Dude McCool", leader of the Iron Kestrels pirate fleet, master of the starship Rhinehawk, and pilot of the Knuckle Kaiser.

Last time, you felt uncomfortably squishy meatbag emotions, and had to do a lot of back-patting and listening. You also got with both Red Siren and Karen, allowing you to turn your rage at being framed as a colony-killer into resolve, as a space pirate should. You have asses to kick, and shiny mech boots to kick them with.

But before we get to the plot, we have a few other things to do. You see, the Rhinehawk is being upgraded, and you need to decide how you're allocating the two new spaces that opens up. Options will be provided in the next post or so.

You might also want to check out the Rogues' Gallery, seeing as it contains a new pair of fine machines, which I'll be going over in more detail over the next few posts.

-You can double the damage of your cannon batteries (from 100K to 200K each). This is a steady, constant source of extra damage and lets Avi get more chances to score points with Maya.

-You can install a ten-pack of Multi-Missiles. These do 150K each, and can be launched either individually or as a salvo. The salvo is risky, however, because once you expend your missiles you're out until the next time you visit port.

-You can install a Light Screen Generator. This force field works differently than the mech-scale one Tarrasque was equipped with. Instead of being a barrier that automatically parries attacks below a certain Kill threshold, a ship's defensive screen provides a load of extra SP. 1000, in the case of a light one like this. However, damage reduces the SP on a 1-1 basis (so taking a 100K attack would reduce the shield's SP to 900), and once the screen is down it is out for the rest of the battle. While the screen is up, no mecha may enter or exit the ship, hindering in-combat deployment of Harpies and Bluegills. It takes one whole turn to activate a screen, but it can be deactivated at will.

-Extra Mech Bay, Passenger Space, or Cargo Hold. These take up 1 Space each. Upgrading the Rhinehawk to Medium Weight automatically improves each Mecha Bay to carry 35 machines each (solving your space problem), Cargo Hold to 1800 tons, and Passenger Space to 360 people, but this option allows you to buy more of any of those if the more militant upgrades don't appeal to you.

As for the new mechs...first, we have the Osano-Wo. Its been upgraded to use Heat Swords (shaped like katanas, naturally, due to the tastes of its pilot) since you fought it last.

PIRATE MORGAN II CUSTOM "OSANO-WO"
Heavy Striker Torso: C/S/K 10, 5 tons
Heavy Striker Head: C/S/K 5, 2.5 tons
Heavy Striker L. Arm: C/S/K 6, 2.5 tons
Left Hand: Cost 2, Space 1, Damage 1K, Kills 1, 0.5 tons
Heavy Striker R. Arm: C/S/K 6, 2.5 tons
Right Hand: Cost 2, Space 1, Damage 1K, Kills 1, 0.5 tons
Heavy Striker L. Leg: C/S/K 6, 2.5 tons
Heavy Striker R. Leg: C/S/K 6, 2.5 tons

Armor: Light Heavy (7 SP, 7 CP, 3.5 tons) on all locations

Main Sensors (Head): 4 CP, 1 Space, 2 Kills, 1 ton
Backup Sensors (Torso): 2 CP, 2 Spaces, 2 Kills, 1 ton

Options: Torso Cockpit with Environment Pod (2 CP, 2 Spaces), Torso Storage Module (1 CP, 1 Space), Liftwire (0.3 CP), Spotlights (0.2 CP), Deluxe Anti-Theft Code Lock (0.4 CP), Stereo (0.1 CP), Interservo Melee Weapon Link (Heat Katanas, 7 CP)

Armament:
Handheld Heat Katana x2 (stats show an individual sword): WA +1, 5K, AP, 9 CP, 6 Spaces, 2.5 tons
Handheld Heavy Autocannon: Range 350m, WA -1, 6K, BV 4, Ammo 10 bursts, Reloads 3, 16 CP, 10 Spaces, 3 tons
Arm-Mounted Small Shield: DA -1, SP 6, 7.5 CP, 3 tons

Thrusters & Speed: 6 per leg, 4 in the torso. Moves 400 meters per turn in flight or can run 200m. 16 CP.
Total Weight: 52.5 tons
Total Cost: 159.5 CP

Honestly, after statting it I realized it is easily one of my favorite mecha in this game. The Osano-Wo uses a grunt frame with a lot of customization, the heaviest armor it can lift, has a shield, and is dangerous in both melee combat and at range. A fine officer's mech, and despite all that it is remarkably cheap, coming in at below 160 CP. It's also proven not to job against Roarke Starwind, which is always a plus.
>>
I vote extra damage from cannon batteries. The Rhinehawk's fast enough to kite any fool trying to bear down on us.
>>
>>47257394
Probably vote for the cannon upgrade. We're already fast enough to avoid most damage. Though I do enjoy the idea of being tougher...
>>
>>47257561
If the Rhinehawk was operating alone, the upgraded cannon batteries would probably be my choice, since doubling dps is pretty damned impressive.

However, since it'll be operating both as part of a fleet, and with mechs deployed, the shield is the best choice. Having between 2 and 5 turns of flat immunity to damage would make it a superb tank, and we have plenty of damage options available to make good use of that time.
>>
>>47257662
Oh wait, herp. Two slots. Ok, cannon upgrade and light screens then.
>>
>>47257561
Cannon Upgrade. I don't like expendable missile pack.

What does the cargo hold do for us? As is we are carrying more weight in our mech bay than in our cargo hold. Will we be able to get more CP per battle or something?
>>
>>47257561
Extra mech bay and cannon upgrade.
>>
>>47257639
So you know, I think about our bro and I question: Would Roarke like Cowboy Bebop? What would be some anime that Roarke would enjoy?

Right Hand: 2 CP, 1 Space, 1 Kill, 0.5 tons
Medium Striker L. Leg: C/S/K 5, 2 tons
Medium Striker R. Leg: C/S/K 5, 2 tons

Armor: Heavy Striker (5 SP, 5 CP, 2.5 tons) on all locations

Main Sensors (Head): 4 CP, 1 Space, 2 Kills, 1 ton
Backup Sensors (Torso): 2 CP, 2 Spaces, 2 Kills, 1 ton

Options: Torso Cockpit with Environment Pod (2 CP, 2 Spaces), Head Storage Module (1 CP, 1 Space), Liftwire (0.3 CP), Spotlights (0.2 CP), Interservo Melee Weapon Link (Beam Katars, 7 CP), Deluxe Anti-Theft Lock (0.4 CP), Stereo (0.1 CP), Torso Weapon Mount (2 CP, 2 Spaces)

Armament: Always equipped with the Beam Katars and shield, generally equipped with the Heavy Autocannon. It can switch its gun for the Epoxy Gun prior to missions without penalty. The Weapon Mount allows it to use its handheld gun in fighter mode.
Arm-Mounted Beam Katars x2 (stats show an individual beam sword): WA +1, 6K (only 2K of structure), EMW (treats SP as 4 less than usual), 6.5 CP, 3 Spaces, 1 ton

Mech bay is a bad choice. We'd be equipping grunts with bad machines in order to fill it up. Lots of casualties.

Better to upgrade our peoples equipment and skills first.

Thrusters & Speed: 3 per leg, 3 per wing, 1 in the torso. The wings themselves add +100m in flight. Moves 450 meters per turn in flight, 900 in jet form, or can run 200m. 13 CP.
Jet Mode: Allows the mech to take the form of a mechafighter (costs 0.3 multiplied by the base CP of the mech). This doubles the flight MA, prevents the use of handheld weapons, and inflicts -2 MV. It takes one action to transform.
Total Weight: 49 tons
Total Cost: 182.5 CP

Looking at it, you may notice that it has a similar weapon setup to Yoritomo's. This is partially because you ordered him to train with Yoritomo, and partially because dual beam sabers (inset on the upper sides of the forearms like a pair of sword-length punch daggers) fit him well. He can swap his Heavy Autocannon out for an Epoxy Gun without penalty when you deploy him, although he defaults to the autocannon if not ordered otherwise. Because he frequently deploys with the long-ranged Miles' and Richard's Master Harpies, however, I put the Epoxy Gun in as an equally viable option, letting him stick enemies in place and tank for them.

Originally, it was equipped with physical blades, but during the Master Harpy raid on Suleiman 1, Mohammed took a prototype scarlet beam saber and Cornelius was able to reproduce the technology to create a pair of them.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to call it a pata than a katar?
>>
>>47257675
>>47257755

Every option that ISN'T getting one of the extra bays/holds/spaces costs 2 Spaces.
>>
Mohammed has based a lot of the aesthetic of his machine on yours, notably the sensor mask head and accentuating the stark Iron Kestrels' black-and-silver coloration with a hint of red (in his case, his beam sabers), while keeping it his own. Somehow, after getting the beam swords it became the cheapest and lightest of the three, not needing any Weight Efficiency.
>>
>>47257845
Shield, then. Our main offensive punch comes from our mechs and that's just going to get more pronounced as we go on. We need to have a more durable base.

Also you didn't upgdate the upgrade bin for Karens new ugrade. Our mech is one hell of a front liner though, 5K ablation and 7SP armour.

>Kaiser Heart: Less of an individual upgrade, and more the result of endless work, mildly unsafe experimentation, minute adjustments, and constant fine-tuning to maximize armor protection and efficiency based on Roarke's combat data, all done by the extremely dedicated Karen Cohen. It adds +1 to the SP of every armor piece, including shields, and +1 to the ablation value of the Officer Armor system. The new values are already factored in wherever they are listed elsewhere. In the process, she has drafted plans for many new upgrades that costs points as normal.

And the true Best Girl, Grapple-chan, uses Roarke's obscenely high Mecha Fighting rolls instead of a set DC, making her superior when piloted by a true space brawler to any puny epoxy gun with its "ammunition" and lesser range.

The Shields have it! It looks like the Rhinehawk will be equipped with a defensive screen when it's done being upgraded!

A fine choice for a flagship, as the Rhinehawk is now fast, heavily armored (it stays 1 armor category above its hull size even when its hull gets larger), and equipped with a powerful shield that can stop most attacks cold.

You wake up in the dimly lit room, your mouth dry and the holoprojected stars wheeling slowly overhead. There's a soft arm thrown across your chest, and a softer waterfall of dark hair tickling your ribs as its owner sleepily murmurs to herself. Your discarded PC shows that it's a little past noon, although your head is still a little fuzzy on the exact date. Sitting up, you knock over a few empty capsules of Red Comet-brand energy drinks.

"Nnnnm?" Karen sits up, rubbing her eyes and fumbling around for her glasses. You grab them for her and put them onto her nose, and she smiles, "I guess I really was holding out for a hero..."

You laugh softly, and hug her, "I've got something to say before we both have to get back to work. Karen. You realize you're with me on the field everytime I go out right? The Knuckle Kaiser was made by you. It's what let's me fight for the Iron Kestrels. To protect our family from the Green Skulls. You make that possible. I think that's really cool." You grin, and put on your shades, as she blushes furiously and nods.

"R-Roarke...you're really cool too. Fight hard, okay?" The two of you share a kiss, before you get dressed and get ready to resume work. Even after you freshen up, you'd kill someone for a mug of coffee and some fresh pastries.

As you exit the room, you walk straight into the trio of the Rhinehawk's officers, interrupting an argument.

"I'm telling you, I won't do it. Naming it the 'Mohammed variant' is disrespectful to the Prophet. It's the Dervish." Mohammed insists, "I may not be religious, but Lady Fatima would throw a fit if she heard I called a humanoid mecha by anything even similar to the Prophet's name."

Miles makes a whipcrack sound with her mouth, "Come on, I called mine the Longshadow! How can we be a team if our names don't match, huh?! You might as well call it the Zero if you're going to act like a zero."

Mohammed's impassive face creeps towards a frown, "I shall not."

Richard, as usual, is remaining quiet and avoiding either opinion, just grunting noncommittally whenever either of them looks at him.

"DOUBLE Zero!" Miles cackles like a particularly short and particularly evil witch.

Mohammed's expression becomes gradually more and more Fatima-like, "It is the Dervish. There shall be no discussion. Not all of us are blessed with silly names like yours."

Miles opens her mouth to say something awful and nearly walks directly into you as you emerge from Karen's room, "Hey, watch it Kar-Dude?" Her face twists into an expression better suited for some kind of Lovecraftian underwater predator than a normal woman's grin, "Oh ho ho hoooo, Richard, so this is where he's been!"

"We thought you were ashore, boss. Maybe training or something. Uh, Yoritomo said it's normal for a warrior to go sit under a waterfall during a time of stress until he achieves clarity and focus." Richard scratches his beard doubtfully.

Miles punches him in the arm, "Don't softball me! If you make it too easy there's no point in turning it into innuendo." She sighs and shakes her head, before going up on tiptoe to pat you on the back, "It's just like having Captain Ozark back, kinda nostalgic really. So, does she call you Admiral, or Rooooaaaarke~?" Her smirk is smug enough for six normal people, which is impressive given her diminutive stature.

"Well, you see..." You lean down.

Miles isn't bad at hand-to-hand, but she isn't nearly as good at it as you are. You're taller, stronger, and faster, so it's easy to grab her by the back of her belt and the collar of her leather jacket and hoist her up over your head. Glancing around, you spot one of the air vents, its cover left off for maintenance. Karen wouldn't fit in there, neither would Sam past the hips, but Miles? Miles fits in like a missile into its tube despite her kicking, thrashing, and attempts to bite you. You shove her in until her feet are barely sticking out, before dusting off your hands, "That's Admiral Roooooarke~ to you." You turn to Richard and Mohammed, the latter looking faintly awestruck, "Bosun, make a pot of coffee and bring it to me at the bridge." This way, he won't be able to just pull her out of there.

"MOTHERFUCKER! BASTARD! I'LL EVISCERATE YOU WITH MY TOENAIL CLIPPERS YOU GINGER FUCK!" Rants the Miles of the Vents. You graciously ignore her.

"I like Dervish better myself." You inform Mohammed, wheeling around and heading for the bridge as the Martian kid scurries after you.

You arrive just as Maya looks up from her computer terminal, "Good timing, sir. We've got a communication from Red Siren, shall I put it onscreen?"

"Onscreen." You order, still adjusting your rumpled shirt and combing your hair when Red Siren's smiling face appears on the main monitor.

"Roarke darling~" Her smile fades a little, "...Did you just wake up? You're dreadfully shy of your usual poise, lovely." She tuts sadly.

You adjust your shades, "I had a late night. And day. It's hard to keep regular hours, you should know that."

She grins knowingly, and laughs, "Oh well, that's perfectly normal. So, I told you to let me handle it, didn't I?" She puffs up with pride, "Well, I have. Apparently the reporter who did that broadcast is on her way to California Station with a small transport and modest escort to do a scoop, and I had just the most splendid idea! I'll kidnap her, and then I can use my clout as a microphone to tell everyone that you aren't the sort of person to do what you're accused of." She taps her chin with one long, pink fingernail, "Although I'm not sure if you want me to accuse the military directly, or pin this on the Skulls. Hm, I'll let you decide!"

>[What say?]
>>
>>47259054

Repairs are underway. I won't say that I may have misread a certain section about what happens if you destroy a pod's armor and then start hitting the torso (and it wouldn't have mattered because Roarke got a cockpit critical hit anyway and can pierce Megaheavy armor), but I will say that a weakness in the original design has been patched up and that now if you destroy the pod and start attacking the torso you don't use the pod's armor SP.

>>
>>47259189
I don't like it. Imagine how the media would spin it if a reporter was kidnapped by pirates, only to come out denying an earlier report of theirs and being in support of said pirates after being released. Not to mention how the average person would interpret such a chain of events without even needing the media to put their own spin on it.
>>
>>47259189
Green Skulls. Noone would ever believe the government did this, and it's not like this is the entire government being evil. It's one branch. We know there's good people in the government, and we don't need shit coming down on their head. We'll handle them quietly.
>>
>>47259277

This is also how Red Siren announces her new albums, incidentally.
>>
>>47259292
Still don't really like it. Even if it's Red Siren herself doing the talking, it's still too easy to spin the other way for us. If the goal is to build better PR, which is what I'm assuming it is, there's better and more subtle ways to go about doing so I'd imagine.

Not trying to be a negative nancy, but just offering my jaded opinion.
>>
>>47259292
Out of curiousity Wong, how does Roarke feel about 70s-90s mecha anime?
>>
>>47259189
So let's see. We (theoretically) have Clemmy on the military side looking into the situation and trying to find/save athena. From her responses, it seems unlikely the colony was destroyed by the military directly, which means the green skulls are probably the ones who actually pulled the trigger. We don't know who exactly is the bad egg on the military side, but the psycho admiral is currently our prime suspect.

What we need to do is find proof of complicity between the two. That and punch them into tiny little gibblets.

I don't think siren should be broadcasting our defense to the world. Take the journalist prisoner, but instead keep her on the station and let her make a very public report of a split between siren and the kestrels. Full of screaming, threats, everything. Give the green skulls the idea that she stands alone, and they might come and try to take over.

Spring a trap on them when they do, and we can get more information as well as a great mouthpiece to broadcast that to the solar system in the form of the reporter.
>>
>>47259338

Roarke has never watched an anime in his life. He's familiar with the concept, but during his childhood he never had the kind of money Yoritomo did to go diving into pre-nuclear-conflict cultural phases.
>>
>>47259330
>>47259339
To be honest since we are already wanted criminals it doesn't really make much difference if people believe what we are saying. Might as well just get it said anyway though, might get someone asking questions.
>>
>>47259435
I personally view our public image as completely irrelevant in this instance. The only things that matter are 1.Killing green skulls 2.Finding the bad guys in the military working with them.

We probably shouldn't try to break out the people under military custody, even if they have useful information. It'd be too high profile and bring down even more heat on us. So drawing the green skulls into a trap seems to be the best way to find out the information we need via interrogations. They could also possibly know if there were any survivors, and where those survivors are.

I get the feeling the only survivors are those capable of making giant death robots.
>>

Are you saying you don't want to save Athena and Sam's brother just because they're not useful?

Dude, that's a dick move. I'm voting against whatever you want because you're being a dick and the Green Skulls obviously wouldn't know where a military prison would be.
>>
>>47259564
What are you on about?

I"m saying that if we try to blow them out of whatever military prison they are currently in, they would be in more danger with us, regardless of what useful information they had, because then instead of one psycho admiral out to get us, the entire military is out to get us.
>>
>>47259586

Pussy. The entire military is already out to get us, we're being framed for war crimes. I'm saying that whether or not they have useful information it doesn't fucking matter. There's a little girl in danger, we're going to save her.

You know what? HEY WONG, I'm voting we tell the truth about the military being behind this. Fuck giving those guys what they want and fueling anti-pirate sentiment.
>>
>>47259613
Ah, a moron. Good to see your opinion can be discarded.
>>
>>47259586

It's not just one General. It's her and every ship under her command, including SOUL and the SOUL mecha, and whoever else she can call in as reinforcements.
>>
>>47259586
As pirates the entire military is already out to get us you know.
>>
>>47259625

His opinion is actually worth every bit as much as yours and everyone else's in this thread. I, personally, can't see Roarke Starwind just leaving Athena wherever they're keeping her given Anons' reaction to finding out she's being used to blackmail her father.
>>
>>47259645
It's like everyone suddenly forgot about the 'Space Pirate' part of 'Mecha Space Pirate Quest'.
>>
>>47259544
There is some hope, as the skulls have been shown to use slaves. They might've rounded up the people in the colony before blowing it up to get a twofer.
>>
>>47259663
We got to be careful though. If Siren comes out pro-kestrel, she may paint a target on her. I can see blaming the green skulls for now, giving out copies of our flight data and maybe getting the police chief and some of the others to give eyewitness accounts
>>
>>47259663
Shrug, then i suppose none of this discussion matters, does it?
>>
>>47259677
Seeing as the only survivors we know about are being held by the military I dont think it was the skulls.
>>
>>47259677

Are you referring to what those two aces in the Morgan II and Warmouth said? I'd like to remind you, they had everyone working the mines instead of the farms specifically because they planned to kill them when they were ready to leave.

IC, you would know that if the Green Skulls DID blow the Colony up, they wouldn't keep anyone but the girls they take for Galbadie.

I really hope I'm misunderstanding you somehow, and if I am please tell me.
>>
>>47259808
Man what.

Go ahead and do a vote. One side wants to break into a military facility (we don't even know which). The other side wants to blow up green skulls in hope of getting intel that makes such a breakout unnecessary because the military lets them go on their own.

The one guy you're talking about isn't on the side you think he is.

"The Green Skulls, for now. We can't prove the military did it, but we can prove I didn't." It's a hard decision, you want to call them out on their bullshit, but even Clementine didn't know about this.

"Well, darling, they might just say the pixels don't look right on your footage..."

"So long as my side of the story is known, it's better than only letting them get theirs out. Aren't you worried about how it will look if you kidnap a reporter, though?"

She blinks, and smiles, "So gallant! No. Not at all. I'm sure I'll be perfectly fine, like always. One little ship is just a morsel for my Archen." She waves a hand dismissively, then makes a face, "Of course, if even you say the Green Skulls did it, that obnoxious woman is going to say it proves her point and that even pirates admit there's a problem...and she'll crack down on us for sure." She grumbles, looking annoyed.

"We can't realistically expect anyone to believe the UJCIDF blew up a colony without proof. We'll tell the truth about what we know." You respond firmly.

She sighs, dropping her chin onto her hands with her elbows propped up on her ornate wooden desk, "Fine, fine, I can't win against you..." She smiles dreamily, twirling the tip of her hat's long plume around her fingertip, "So Roarkey, do you want to come with me, or would that be bad for our image?" She bats her eyelashes.

>>
>>47259920
Don't present it to the media, present it to people inside the military who aren't complete shit like that one colonel.

>>47259946
Hence the need for green skulls to provide said testimony
>>
>>47259946
Damn. I guess we could start with a jail break. Or we could find a way to sneak into California station for some intelligence gathering. Wong, are there any other pirate gang's we haven't met in the area? For recruitment?
>>
We could offer to make the military a trade the doctor and Athena for Sam and her mech since as far as they know she was captured
>>
>>47259956

A Colonel doesn't outrank a General, and we don't know what kind of support she has. Wong has been hinting that this is part of something bigger than an anti-pirate crusade.
>>
>>47259956
I think people with enough clout to have teams of super weapons made and blow up fucking colony's have enough clout to get people to tell a pirate to go fuck off with his evidence.
>>
>>47259936
You also don't need an entire colony to build a superweapon. Just ask the Titans circa UC 0087.
>>
>>47259983
Unless you presume the entire military is 100% ok with blowing up colonies under their protection, solid proof coming from a reliable source showing some of their own did do such a thing is going to at the very least cause a split to form. If a rescue is necessary at that point, it becomes a fuckload easier.
>>
>>47259977
Pretty sure a man who designs super mechs is worth more than one prototype.
>>
Oh, when do we need to do the Fatima ransom? Is that soon?
>>

>>
>>47260023
I imagine that if you'd have used a picture of Jamitov Hymen for the Colonel our first encounter with him would have gone very differently.
>>
>>47259997
Then again, if she didn't have enough clout to blow up a colony directly and had to hand it off to the green skulls to be her enforcers, such a revelation would hurt her significantly.

She squeals a little and claps her hands together, "Now remember, you're with me, so we must preserve our reputations! Let's try not to kill anybody, hm~? After all, I don't want them to be too frightened by me...and what if that reporter girl is embroiled in a passionate romance with one of her escort pilots? Why, getting in the way of true love would be a tragedy!" Her eyes grow wide with ideas, "Ooh, ooh, we could let the military mechs surround us, and go back-to-back, and when our back armor touches we look at each other with perfect understanding and it will be just sooo dramatic~ Do you think coming up with a quick little dance number for us is too much, darling? I mean, it's a little over the top, but we're just so good together...maybe I could pretend like I've been damaged, and you catch my Archen in your Kaiser's arms and hold up your fist like you're swearing vengeance, and then I get up and look all brave and the audience cheers!" She gushes, clearly more worried about how to make this look sufficiently dramatic and improve her viewership rather than by any potential threat posed by UJCIDF Bluegills or Pumpkinseeds.

"I was so lucky to get this information...get a good night's sleep tonight, okay? We're going bright and early tomorrow, so don't sleep in TOO late! Oh, and you can tell Yoritomo he doesn't have to hide from me on his ghastly painted ship. I forgive him for selling unlicensed body-pillows of me without asking. The transport ship Dazzling Maiden is a small one, about the size of the one Avi turned into shards of metal and plasma when it tried to run from him on Suleiman, which makes sense because it's not a luxury liner like the Heart of the Sunshine was or a warship. It could have a complement of 20 or so mecha, at best. Easy pickings, seemingly. While you wait for a reply, you head off the bridge and towards the mech bay. Maybe Karen is working on something interesting, but you're also hoping to see Samantha. You want to see how she's holding up. The Corporal actually runs into you in one of the hallways near the mech bay, smiling and going up on tiptoes to kiss your cheek, "Did you and Karen have fun?" She inquires archly, "She's been in there humming Bonnie Tyler and fiddling with something in the Kaiser's head ever since she woke up. It's like she's half-asleep, but she looks too happy for me to bother her."

"Red Comet energy drink company has its new spokeswoman." You reply enigmatically, then smile, "Yeah, it was great. Thank you, I know you helped a little."

She gives you a perky smile, clicks her heels together, and salutes crisply, "The Double Girl Alliance never leaves a sister in a pinch!" She blushes at her own melodrama a little.

"Are you holding up alright?" You ask.

She nods, "I am now. I needed to be alone for a while, but I'm back to my usual self. Thank you, Roarke." Rather unsubtly, she leans on you, not seeming to mind the glances of passing Iron Kestrels going to and from the mech bay, "So, how long are we staying here?"

"California Station isn't safe right now, but I'll be going with Red Siren to do some work." You hug her a little, and she snuggles appealingly against you.

"No, we're going to clear my name. Apparently the reporter who did that broadcast is coming to California Station." You shake your head, tossing your orange mane a little as the military girl gets as comfortable against your torso as moss is comfortable on the trunk of a tree. "And...wait, did you change the length of the skirt?"

"Slightly shorter." She grins mischievously, "I don't think the stockings had garterbelts before, either, but I made things work."

"Perfect. By the way, speaking of containing things...where would your brother and the Clancys be kept, do you think?" It's hard to think of serious things when discussing girls in short skirts, but you need to know.

"Most likely, on a battleship. A big one, like a Wels-class, is practically a flying castle brimming with defenses. There are prison colonies, as you know, but those are for people who have already been processed through the system, and it would be hard to stop someone from talking about any facts they might inconveniently know once they're mixed in with the general prison population and not locked away in an individual cell on a battleship." She frowns momentarily, "General Fairchild's personal ship, the Jaburo, is certainly large enough to serve as a prison, and it would mean keeping everyone close. If she hasn't visited California Station yet, Pierre might even still be on the Cincinnatus, it certainly has the facilities and I can't imagine Colonel Stern really believes he's guilty."

You're interrupted from listening to her by a bwoop from your PC. You have a message from Yoritomo.

Momentarily, a vision fills your consciousness, of a cute blonde bob and a pretty wide-mouthed face peeking out of an ocean of pillows covered with your shirtless form.

'Good talk, so long as I get my share. You got my good side, right?' You message him back.

'Hai, aniki! One side has you in full Iron Kestrels attire, the other is ~suggestive~ for the ~shoujos~ and ~oba-sans~'

This should disturb you a lot more than it does. You're not sure what a Showjoe is, although it sounds like some kind of extrasystem martial dynasty, and an ohbaaasan sounds like some sort of degenerate sheep farmer, but by now you're becoming fairly numb to the madness of Oda Yoritomo,

'What about mugs and things? Space beverage capsules? Tunics? Boxing gloves?' You sigh heavily, but money is money.

'Sasuga! Subarashi! Now you're thinking with yen! We'll be rich together, sempai! Already the 1/144 HGUC Knuckle Kaiser is out of stock on samubuy.holo, which I believe you would find to be a most enlightening shopping experience. Also, the Roarke Starwind's Fiery-Blooded Napalm Dispenser is proving to be a remarkably hot seller! I'm telling you, though, if I only had models of more or your women, I'm sure they would be astoundingly profitable too!'

You choke a little bit at his words, but still manage to text him back, 'Keep up the good work.'

You text one final little request to Yoritomo. If anyone can get you the right materials, it's him.

You bid temporary farewell to Samantha, check in on Karen long enough to make sure that she's okay, and then you hit the gym. For hours, you train as hard as you can at unarmed combat, bruising and battering countless members of the Iron Kestrels, mostly newbies who want to see how you fight outside a mech. Even wearing protective armor to keep them from having their bones broken doesn't stop some of them from limping rather badly by the time you've thrown them out of the ring.

By the time you're done, you've worked up an impressive sweat. You bathe, eat a healthy dinner, and go to bed early. You wake up when someone warm climbs into bed next to you, but she just wants to cuddle, and you allow it, too sleepy even to question it. The next morning, she's gone, likely doing her duties for the day, and you make your way to the Knuckle Kaiser and launch.

As always, Karen waves you off.

Because the Rhinehawk is still being upgraded, you're using one of Red Siren's small transport ships...and when it appears, you're rather shocked to see that it's the Heart of the Sunshine. It's been painted in bright pink and red, and its guns and mech bays are a bit larger, but it's still a luxury craft. Now, though, that luxury is for one person to enjoy rather than an entire cruiseload of people (or just one in Fatima's case because she booked the whole thing for the sake of luxury). Rosita is quite pleased to see you, if she had a tail it would be wagging as she shows you around her new ship with pride. The transition through the microgate is remarkably smooth, and soon enough your little ship is floating in space, in a major debris field straddling a commonly-used route between the Jovian Colonies and California Station.

Rolled 1, 6 = 7 (2d10)

Before long, a little ship appears. Small, slender, a typical brick-shaped Jovian vessel with its thrusters all clustered at the back end.

"Ready, darling? I don't think we need any backup dancers when I've got you with me." Red Siren takes your hands in hers, squeezing them tight, giving you a blood-boilingly warm smile. Somehow, you get the sense that she's wanted to do something like this for a long, long time. Your mecha launch together, the twin catapults of the Heart of the Sunshine sending you hurtling into space. Red and green, the lights of your thrusters ignite at the same time, crisscrossing in a spiralling double-helix pattern as you whirl around each other and down towards the hapless ship. Four Bluegills rapidly deploy, splitting up to try and take the two of you apart.

The Knuckle Kaiser and the Archen both cut back thrusters and ignite knee thrusters at the perfect moment, reaching out and catching each other by the wrist as they swing around in opposite directions and end up back to back. The Archen draws the two unfolding fans of an expensive nanofiber variant that it uses as shields, splaying them wide as the autofire beam guns in its puffy sleeves deploy.

a-ha kicks in over the stereo as you cross your arms and flare your elbow thrusters dramatically. Your shoulder armor clanks against Rosita's, and the two of you share a look over your shoulders at each other. It's perfect, just what she wanted...but unfortunately, one of the Bluegills has a chance to kneel down and shoulder a rocket launcher, the coffin-shaped dispenser dumping its entire payload at you.

'We're talking away~'

Unbothered, undeterred, you walk through the hail of missiles. Fire explodes around you, and, unbothered, you tilt your head a little to let a rocket pass by. As casually as plucking an apple from a tree, you close the Knuckle Kaiser's fingers around the green-painted UJCIDF Bluegill's head and pull it off. Your visor ratchets up, and the Bluegill recoils, visibly hesitating as you grab its shield arm by the shoulder and its sword arm by the wrist, plant your boot on its torso, and yank its arms off. The sword, a machete-shaped model, simple but functional, shatters in your grip as the second one attacks.

'I don't know what to say~'

This guy has an Epoxy Gun, and tries to do to you what your own Bluegills did to the Tarrasque, firing twice, the tannish fluid visibly hardening in the void as it seeks to engulf and imprison your legs.

The right arm? How about taking the Epoxy Gun with it?
>>
>>47263153

It's two-handed, if he loses his right arm he can't use it, and is forced to use his sword southpaw...which doesn't matter because you hit twice, allowing you to crush both.

Take it down then. It wouldn't look cool if we stopped moving like a chump in the middle of our performance.

Rolled 10, 4 = 14 (2d10)

The small catapults launch another pair of Bluegills. Red Siren's holographic copies are playing merry hell on their ability to target her, and things are going very poorly for the one who attacked you. Your thrusters flaring to lift you off the deck and carry you towards him lifts you out of his arc of fire, and he doesn't get a second chance as you drop down and launch a vicious combo of blows into his shoulders. Servos crack, spit lightning, and split as you bodily dismember his Bluegill's arms.

A third one comes flying in towards you. This one's a more traditional Bluegill, with a sword and Medium Beam cannon that he makes a very serious attempt to blast you with.

'Shying away~'

The small catapults launch another pair of Bluegills. Red Siren's holographic copies are playing merry hell on their ability to target her, and things are going very poorly for the one who attacked you.

'I'll be coming for your love, okay?' Croons the song.

You spread your arms wide in annoyance, and actually fail to dodge the first plasma bolt that splashes against your chest. The hexagons that light up from your Officer Armor seem to be both smaller and more numerous than they were before, absorbing the attack like rain before you contemptuously swing your shield into the path of the second attack to avoid it aiming for your eyes.

'TAKE ON ME~!'

The Knuckle Kaiser's grin focuses on him next.

And as you rip off the sword arm of the third Bluegill, leaving it with only a beam rifle that can't hurt you, the QM notices the time. We're making this a two-parter, it resumes tomorrow at the usual time.
