Welcome back, to the nineteenth installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. As always, you are...wait, you're not Roarke Starwind today!? We'll cover that shortly!

Alright time to get this party started, out of Curiosity Wong are there any important dates coming up for Roarke such as Holidays or Birthdays?
>>
>>47325378

A brief note about the Cincinnatus, obviously there are other officers onboard besides the notable pilot aces. Some of them use generic machines and the generic A-Class Crew stats, others simply don't pilot mecha.

>>47325418

Yes. Not quite here yet, however!

Damn, we are outclassed. 12K and AP. Wong what does quick mean? Is it an extra attack like our fist?

We need to get that auto parry or our cape needs to be one big attack. Our fists are already enough to drop volumes of damage. Just we can't go through armour well with only 6K and AP.
>>
>>47325596
Maybe a drive powered by autism?
>>
>>47325613

Yes. Using the Swordfish Lance, you can make two attacks per Action the same as the Armored Thruster Fist. However, unlike the Knuckle Kaiser, which uses two fists, the King Swordfish can only carry the one Swordfish Lance, giving it half the potential number of attacks despite its high damage.

>can't go through armor well

I'm pretty sure the Tarrasque would disagree.

YOU ARE: Ensign Heinrich “Caesar” Merrow (Age 16)

Attractiveness: 7
Body Type: 7
Cool: 10 [5 normally] (Fast Talk & Persuasion +1)
Empathy: 6
Intelligence: 10
[Education]: +3
Luck: 8
Movement Allowance: 6
Reflexes: 10 (Dodge & Escape 5, Mecha Fighting +4 Mecha Melee +6, Mecha Pilot +6, Melee 5, Motorcycle +1, Stealth +1, Zero-G +1)
Technical Ability: 7

Rookie Bonus: Anime Hero

Luck Points 8 (refreshes at end of session), Maneuver Pool 1 (refreshes at end of combat, otherwise identical to Luck)

As you may notice, Heinrich is not as strong as Roarke. Far from it. you're a decade younger, despite your powerful mech, and still a rookie. Your Cool's actual value is 10, but it only emerges at certain times by this point, and normally you only have Cool 5, making you somewhat bad of dealing with other people outside of video games and the holonet. The one thing you are superbly good at is mecha combat, partially a result of the excellent genes inherited from your father, the legendary ace Rudolph Merrow of Europa, and partially because you play more simgames than could conceivably be healthy. Most of your paycheck goes to the website samubuy.holo, despite the fact that you're fairly sure it's owned and run by space pirates, because the owner has restored and emulated many fine games from the past. You have a particular passion for extremely difficult games, such as danmaku-types, hack-and-slash, and Battletoads.

As for your mech, that's a bit of a story. Your father is THE Ace of Aces from the Great Sidereal War. He and Floyd Beck were the original mecha heroes, the two Jovian legends who killed more Green Men than anyone else. In the nearly thirty years since the War, however, Rudolph Merrow hasn't set foot inside a mech. As his only son, he didn't want you to become a pilot either.

Dark Souls is a hack-and-slash game. If it's a difficult game, you've probably played it and beaten it at least once.

Instead, he wanted you to become a politician, a relatively safe and honorable profession replete with honest kickbacks and a comfortable desk. It's nearly impossible to become a Jovian politician without a UJCIDF Academy education, however, so with the help of private tutors and sim-lessons you were fasttracked through the courses, giving you the equivalent of a college education at the age of sixteen. This is possible because you are, legitimately, a genius. Like most well-bred Jovians, you've also taken fencing lessons, and are viewed as quite talented.

As a result of your high birth and talent, you were exposed to high society and several attempts at an arranged marriage from a young age. All of which failed miserably. Either you hated the girls for being useless flowers, they hated you for being an introvert, or they blatantly just wanted to be married to the Merrow family bank accounts and reputation. Sometimes, you think about giving up on 3D love altogether, but you aren't quite ready to embrace the ways of the Ancient Home-Dwelling Sages, the Otaku you've heard about on the literature section of samubuy.holo. You don't trust your father's advice on women. Both he and Floyd Beck loved the pilot of NaNa-01, and after the tragedy resulting from NaNa-01's nanobots running rampant and consuming an entire colony into itself, forcing them to put her and her mech down, he never really got over her or the eventual loss of his best friend. He married, of course, that's how you came to exist, but the marriage didn't last and you don't really know your mother besides the occasional letter she sends out of what you presume is guilt.

As stated earlier, your father didn't want you to become a pilot and forbade you from joining the UJCIDF. Seeing few other options besides living in your room and eventually being married off, you ran away and joined the army.

I get attractiveness why doesn't Roarke have 10 for that?
>>
>>47326130
To be fair he is 16 while we are like 26.
>>
Your father suspected you would do this, of course, and made several very believable threats to cut you out of the will, so you took your inheritance from him directly. King Swordfish, his old mech, was rotting in a barn on your land when you stole it. It's not as if he had bothered to look in there in decades or anything, you'd be surprised if he even knew it was gone. Many of the systems were degraded and nonfunctional, but the frame itself is strong. Furthermore, when Colonel Stern saw that you had applied to the UJCIDF he immediately recruited you for SOUL instead of the extrasystem division, meaning that the very best technicians have had time to repair and restore your mech, even adding a ranged weapon at your request and building the Anemone system for you. You dislike guns outside of video games, finding them difficult to aim, but a ranged weapon with effectively infinite ammo that can be aimed via a joystick in your cockpit is much more your style.

As it stands, you are the substitute pilot for Squad A in Corporal Samantha Blanchett's absence, and are being groomed for an officer's position. Which is a good thing, because it will allow you to fund your hobbies even more. You're quite well informed when it comes to pirates and mecha, you have an (unsigned) Red Siren poster and a model of the Osano-Wo in your quarters aboard the Cincinnatus, although you keep them in the closet where the brass won't see them during inspections.

The only question is, are you ready to proceed?
>>
>>47326141
Shrug. It's 30% less on mech rolls in actual combat. That's a lot, but it's certainly not insurmountable. And he only needs to get one shot in to kill us.

>>
>>47326154

Body Type is effectively Constitution. I didn't name it, and thought it was silly at first too.

Roarke doesn't have it at 10 because he melts panties by being cooler than humanly possible rather than just by being inhumanly perfect-looking. He definitely stands out in a crowd, though...but just being a pretty face isn't enough to make someone like Red Siren carry a torch for you.
>>
>>47326187

>>
>>47326159

You take off the simgame helmet and dig your knuckles into your temples until the sparks clear from your eyes. Half of a gourmet meal bar, sugar cookie dough flavor, is dangling from your mouth. You've been playing video games in your underwear since you woke up, roughly around noon, and your limbs are starting to get stiff...but it was worth it. You defended your 200-consecutive-victory streak today against MilesHighClub, Thorshammer, and MoBroFoSho with only a pair of Cincinnatus support personnel for teammates. A glorious, glorious victory that earned you some rather vicious hatemail from MilesHighClub.

On the other hand, it's better than going on GYchan and dealing with that one femanon shitposter who claims she can make better armor than the UJCIDF. Ha! What a troll!

As much as you'd like to stay indoors and screw around on the holonet all day, though, you know that getting at least some exercise is needed to maintain your conditioning for combat (and vidya). You've been excused from normal patrol rotations on account of the fact that your Squad Leader (although you outrank him on paper as an officer, since he's an NCO) has been arrested for collusion with space pirates. In fact, you're pretty sure that's why the Jaburo is coming to join the Cincinnatus at California Station, to pick him up. This makes you worry, but then again, you're always worrying about one thing or another. If your Squad goes belly-up before you even get to go on a single mission...you can't honestly say you'd be surprised. It's a shame, though, word around the mechbay is that Naomi Heim, who has been in hospital recovering from an injury for some time, is quite cute and you wanted to at least see her once. And, y'know, maybe talk to her. Maybe. If you can stop from spilling spaghetti everywhere.

With a final grunt, you devour the rest of your meal bar, send a scathing response to MilesHighClub about why sniping is for pussies, and get dressed.

Clean underwear, clean socks, nearly luminescently white pants, high black boots that gleam like obsidian, a cyan ensign's shirt trimmed in gold with brass buttons and gold epaulets on the shoulders. Oh, right, and your sword, too. You're not a proper soldier without your sword. It's 'ceremonial', which means it isn't one of the ridiculously lethal monofilament blades certain experts carry, but it's still a fully functional blade made of proper metal and quite capable of cutting someone.

You comb your hair, glare at it in the mirror, comb it in a slightly different way, wet it down with water, finally get it looking satisfactory, and depart from your dimly-lit cave. Outside, the flourescent lights of the Cincinnatus' hallway glow with a momentarily too-bright light. You wear glasses, although you could always get surgery to improve your vision the idea of someone messing with your eyes using a laser gives you the jeebies...and besides, your dad was a perfectly good ace-of-aces and he has glasses.

You have a few options, now, since you're at loose ends.

You kind of want to go shopping. There's an up-and-coming pirate captain whose videos you've seen on the holonet a few dozen times (at least) since he made his debut and since you saw the briefing video of him defeating Captain Oda your collection just hasn't felt complete without some Iron Kestrels paraphernalia.

That vid of him beating the Harpy swarm was hella rad, too. You think his machine isn't quite as good as yours, but you also suspect he's had time to upgrade since. According to your notes, Admiral Starwind is a boxer and you don't know of many boxers who fight with only one fist.

Still, that involves artificial sunlight, fresh air, and not hanging out with your mechanic and your glorious King Swordfish Mk. II. You're particularly proud of the paint scheme, which you personally selected and insisted on. Camouflage isn't particularly useful for avoiding notice in space, at least not usually, but this design breaks up the Swordfish's outline and combined with the fact that you have (as far as you know) the fastest mech currently in the Cincinnatus' hangars it will hopefully unbalance opponents long enough for you to take them apart with your giant drill lance.

You'll need it if you ever want to beat Roarke Starwind. You're completely confident in your machine, but much less so in your own abilities. The strongest mech in the world isn't worth shit if the pilot isn't good enough to go toe-to-toe with his opponent.

You awkwardly fiddle with your PC until she gets off, then fiddle less awkwardly with your PC until the lift takes you down to the Cincinnatus' huge mech bays, each of which is big enough to swallow the complement of the average pirate crew's vessel.

Triple-C, your mechanic, is waiting there for you. Out of all the cool people you know, he's been cooler to you than most. Cassius Cosimo Cavalier...when you asked if it was his real name once he laughed and said 'only 3/4 of it'...is one of Bucephalus Heavy Industries' best mech experts, and the first person Bucephalus sent to work on the SOUL mecha. Initially, it was all Bahamutcorp engineers, and since King Swordfish is THE Bahamutcorp mech they tried to shut him out of working on it, but he agreed to take no credit and leave his name entirely off the project in exchange for the chance to help you get it working right, for which you are extremely grateful. You're not sure why someone of his caliber would bother, but when you asked he said he was looking for someone.

Right now, he's arguing with some kid in the same kind of uniform you're wearing. The kid is gesturing angrily at your mech.

I don't think Clemmy will betray SOUL so easily. She's an upright girl who definitely wants to do good. We would have to persuade her that SOUL is doing bad things and the Iron Kestrels are actually making a difference in the system. Hopefully once she finds out the truth about the Doc and little Athena we will have some leverage to work with.

Some pretentious fuck wants to change our mech even though it's our life on the line when we pilot it. Also our mech is the mutual understanding of our mechanic and us to work best on the battlefield. Don't need some third party bogging us down.

"Why is my S-Slinger next to that...that thing!?" The kid points at your mech in a way that is frankly rather insulting.

"Because the spot was open and I don't feel like walking." Cassius seems utterly unruffled. His metal feet...he likes to joke that he's a mecha pilot too and point at his artificial legs...clang against the deck as he walks over to a terminal and brings up a blueprint of your machine, running a simulator program on the thruster output.

"But it's hideous! Look, just LOOK at it! Those stripes are totally asymmetrical, and the shoulders don't match. Just seeing it gives me a headache." The other ensign snaps.

You look up. Your mech has, fitting its name, a single horn on its forehead, shaped like a drill. The faceplate is almost blank save for the eyeslit and a W-shaped vent where a mouth would be on a human. It has smooth lines indicative of Bahamutcorp engineering, and heavy armor. On the left shoulder is a raised dice from which a plethora of thick nanofiber tentacles descent all the way down to the waist, giving it the look of having a single grand epaulet. These can stiffen and automatically move to deflect blows, although it's faster to control them manually. On the right shoulder is a five-pointed star-shaped piece of armor which can actually be removed and hurled in combat. The edges are made of the same material as a mech's melee weapon, and dozens of tiny microthrusters make it as easy to control in flight as any proper drone. In one hand, it holds a massive spiral lance capable of drilling through a weaker starship's hull, although the only way to control it is using it in both hands.

Next to it is...wait, he's calling YOUR machine ugly? Sweet Jove, it has FIVE different colors! Black and blue, with white limbs and a white head trying far too hard to look human with its dual-eye setup, with gold and red trim. Plus that stupid V-fin thing. He's lucky you're not laughing at him yourself.

"Too bad. If you don't want to be next to the Swordfish, move your mech somewhere else." Triple-C shrugs nonchalantly and continues running tests.

The other ensign frowns, "Regs dictate mecha not be moved in a noncombat situation except with the authorization of the bay's chief technician, to ensure that everyone knows where the SOUL machines are. The last time someone ignored this we lost the S-Betta. I need you to fill out a form saying I c-"

"No. I'm busy." Triple-C accepts a mug of coffee from one of the lower-level mechanics and takes a long swig.

"When will you NOT be busy? Surely, we can reach an understanding."

"I don't know, I'm busy an awful lot." Triple-C shrugs and continues work, "Go bother the Swordfish's pilot, he's right over there." He jerks his head towards you.

The kid looks at you, and has the grace to be somewhat embarrassed. He smiles affably, earning admiring looks from some of the female techs, and saunters over, extending his hand, "I'm sorry about that. I'm sure you were just short on paint, I'll even help you find a better color scheme that isn't so ugly. Nice to meet you, I'm SOUL Squad B's ace."

You look at his hand like it's an octopus that just crawled out of your shoe, then back up at him, "You're Alice Clementine Farragut? Your parents must have hated you to name you that."

His smile freezes.

You look at him in innocent silence, watching him struggle with trying to decide whether you're serious or not, a scowl appearing and disappearing as he tries to find some way to rationalize. You let him squirm. Your glasses reflect the light from above, making your expression hard to read as it is.

"No, that's the Lieutenant. I'm Ensign Keith Young." He finally decides to take you seriously, speaking patiently as if to a child, "Squad B is pretty elite. After all, I'm the one who almost arrested Roarke Starwind. The reason he's off California Station is because he's afraid of me now that I have authorization to bring him in." He boasts. You see that Cassius has stopped running tests, but figure that he's just listening in.

You raise one eyebrow, "Almost? If he's not in the brig, that means you failed, right?"

"Well, there was incompetence on the part of..."

You don't have time for this sort of person, "It doesn't matter. Losing is losing, winning is winning. There's no 'almost' in games or in real life, almost is just how losers feel better about not winning. Don't feel bad, though, I'm sure you're used to it." You breeze past him to examine his mech in more detail. That's a pretty big gun it has, and definitely some supplementary firearms for closer range, "Don't get mad, Keith, I can tell you're a nice guy. If you weren't, you wouldn't have let your girlfriend paint your mech. Was the red pink originally, or is she just kinky?" You grin a little to yourself.

He splutters, "How, how dare you...I'm Keith 'Jesus' Young! The one who's never been shot down and has the highest score on record in the simulators."

God, the sims. That's such an easy game you almost laugh out loud despite yourself, "Had. You're bragging about that? Ugh, to think I almost shook your hand you...you fucking casual." You let genuine disdain slip into your voice.

"I'm not going to put up with this. You...you and your half-painted mech haven't even flown a single mission yet, have they? Can you honestly say that your machine looks like the sort of thing a hero of the people would pilot?"

"Half-painted? That color scheme was hand-selected and meticulously applied to break up my outline and make it harder for idiots like you to peg the cockpit or take off my arms. My dad didn't shoot down more Green Men than you have chest hairs by trying to just LOOK like a hero. Ensign Heinrich 'Caesar' Merrow, by the way, because I seize victory myself instead of just talking about it. You, buddy, are smalltime." You turn your head slightly, and notice his hand is awfully close to his sidearm pistol's grip. Your blood runs cold, you have a service gun yourself but don't care for it at all, so you generally don't wear it. Fortunately, he isn't enough of an idiot to take a shot at you, or swing his fist when you're wearing a sword.

Instead he takes a deep breath, and says plainly, "I'm sorry."

"Yeah, so am I." Sorry he's such a fucking casual, but you have the grace not to say so.

"I forgive you. After all, you're new, I can't blame you for feeling like you have to prove yourself." He pats you on the back, "See you around, Heinrich. I'll try to set a better example in the future."

You silently pray to the ghost of Caesar Augustus, the first true Roman Emperor, for him to make this asshole fall into an open coolant duct. You're going to need to wash this shirt to get the taint of scrub off it.

He walks away. You don't really care, you're too busy examining your mech in detail. After all, YOU'RE quite proud of it and think it looks awesome.

"Um, excuse me, are you and Keith friends?" A voice comes from behind you. Feminine, but you don't have time to panic over that.

"No." You respond shortly.

You hear a giggle, "Wow, you're really honest! And kind of cute, too. Heinrich, right?" You turn around and oh holy shit that IS a girl and she's hot and she has tits and Jove help you she's smiling and holding her hand out. You grab it and shake a little too hard, but she doesn't seem to mind, "Allison. Allison LeChance, I'm one of the mechanics."

"Y-Yeah, I'm Heinrich. Um, SOUL Squad A's substitute pilot until I get assigned to a permanent unit."

She gasps, looking more impressed than you're accustomed to, "You're a SOUL pilot!? That's really cool, I bet you're so good with that lance of yours...we should hang out later, without Keith around to bother us." She still hasn't let go of your hand.

"Oi. Allison, I know I told you to go make sure the S-Swordtail's new shield is working, and if you don't get the hydraulic fluid changed in the S-Flowerhorn I don't think a stun baton will hold the Lieutenant back this time." Cassius taps her on the shoulder, and she jumps like a startled cat, "Shoo, I'm in charge of the Swordfish."

She glares at him and walks off with her nose held in the air and a sway to her hips.

Cassius shakes his head, "Do you know what the word 'easy' means, Caesar?"

"W-W-W-W-"

"I'm not going to tell you how to live your life, but she's had two other boyfriends before you in the time she's been on this ship. She dumped one for Jesus, and then Jesus dumped her for some girl with even more fluorescent hair. Maybe you'll be alright, but I don't know. She's a little maneater." He pats you consolingly on the back.

"But...but booooobs." You're still in that frame of mind, and from somewhere nearby you're hearing high-pitched laughter in a voice very different from Allison's.

"It's up to you, Caesar...aaaand here comes something worse than a maneater. You're on your own this time."

"I-I-I just want a challenge, ma'am." You splutter, but it's too late.

You have fantastic reflexes from all those games. Better than you knew. You're barely aware of what you just did until you look down and see that you've caught her fist right before it would hit you in the belly. The sheer force of her punch makes you stagger.

"Not bad! Not bad...you didn't flinch, you might be good after all." She turns and starts to walk away...and abruptly her leg slices around like a crescent blade towards your temple. You barely duck in time.

She claps her hands, "Great! You're not worthless!. Very good, you pass! Good job...Caesar, right?" She smiles at you, facing you completely...and the moment you start to respond she slams her forehead against yours so hard it sends you staggering to your knees. She wipes a thin thread of blood off her forehead with her fingertips and pops them into her mouth.

"...But you're still a rookie, and you only know how to fight with something in your hand. Pirates won't care about challenges, most of the time, not from us. They'll kill you as efficiently as possible and take your mech. Don't glare at me, I didn't even break your glasses, this is a valuable lesson for the future. What hurts today could save your life tomorrow...and if you're even thinking that someday you could beat someone like my husband, you'd better learn that early." She smiles dreamily, the picture of a maiden in love.

"Lieutenant, you're married?" Your head is swimming, and despite the danger you grab the hand she offers to help you up.

She dusts you off like a kindly older sister, "Yep! He just doesn't know it yet! There's only one good pirate, you see...and he's mine. M. I. N. E. I'm going to catch him, and I'm going to love him until he's one of us."

"Ah. C-congratulations, LT. He's very lucky, I wish you both the best. Um. Who is it?"

She undoes the top button of her uniform and fishes around for a moment before pulling out a heart-shaped locket and popping it open.

Inside is a tiny, crude illustration of a man with long orange hair, a black jacket, and sunglasses grinning while holding a smiling blonde girl you assume is the Butcher herself.

"Admiral Starwind?" You hazard a guess.

"Yep yep yep yep yep!" She chirps happily.

"He's really cool. Does getting headbutted mean I get to come to the wedding?" You ask without thinking.

Her eyes glitter with violence for a moment, then clear. She smiles and nods, "You took your beating like a man and didn't call for help, so you're allowed."

"T-thank you for the lesson, ma'am." It seems like the polite thing to say.

She's starting to walk away, but pauses, looking at you almost curiously. She hesitates as though considering something, then speaks slowly, "By the way...I mean it when I say good job. You understood the point of that. It really was a lesson! Being a soldier means that people are going to try to hurt you, a lot. Some of them are going to be stronger than you, and you won't be able to stop them from hurting you. If you couldn't deal with it, you wouldn't belong in SOUL no matter how good you are." She tilts her head to the side slightly, "After mess, come to the officers' bar. There's something I could use your help with once the Jaburo arrives with General Fairchild. Don't worry, it's nothing bad, just a good deed for someone innocent. What do you say? Are you in?"

Also say yes to the nice murder lady.

>>
"Yeah!" Honestly, being praised by an actual ace feels good. "...So long as I don't get screwed over. I can't buy new games without a job."

Her face erupts in a smile, "Perfect! I knew you had a sense of adventure! I'd try to get Keith kicked back to A and have you assigned to B...but the General isn't really happy with me anymore and that spot belongs to my darling Roarkey-shmorky. Sorry! You'll just have to do well where you are! Don't worry, we'll look out for you and keep you from getting in trouble."

For some reason, Cassius is dying of laughter over at his console.

She glares at him, "Worse than a maneater, huh?"

He looks back at her without any trace of fear, "Your eyes remind me of this kid I used to know, after his parents died. That kind of thing doesn't work on me."

She shakes her head, "Don't end up like this guy, Caesar. He's no fun. To tell you the truth, you remind me a lot of me at your age. We both have the same specialties, only you're not much good at fist-fighting yet, only getting away. I was the same way back then. It makes me wonder what you'll be like when you grow up."

For a moment, you wonder too...

"Well, that's enough from l'il ol' me~! I've got things to do, people to see, it's all work these days since A can't seem to keep people around. Take care of yourself, Caesar!" She laughs and starts to leave.

Cassius, though, interjects, "Lieutenant Farragut."

"Yes~?"

"Good luck with Roarke, the two of you are well suited for each other." The chief mechanic goes back to work, while the Lieutenant squeals happily and goes away with a spring in her step.

>>
>>47328844
alright, so now that we've seen Clemmy in her natural environment, I think I can take a stab at her character.
from what I can tell, Clemmy is 1 part loyal soldier who has dedicated her life to her work, and 2 parts rabid beast that lashes out at anything within arms reach.
>>
>>47329104

No, she had a point. This is a sixteen-year-old kid with a lot of confidence being sent to fight people like the Green Skulls. Better he learns now that battle is completely unfair and painful than find out the hard way.
>>
>>47329104
But there seems to be a reason for the lashing. She attacked us to feel us out, and to teach us. There's no room for pansies if you wanna be a pirate hunter son.
>>
>>47329104
Not rabid. Just domineering and wants entertainment even if it's the cost of others. She is looking out for others and actually cares for people. She was going to kill Roarke and herself if it was true that he was responsible for a colony's death.
>>
>>47329015

probably due to the reason as to why she became the butcher. That takeover of the ship was likely not clean one way or another. If any loyalist was being killed, she likely killed them back due to survival.

After that, the name gains power, the trauma and reveling in said name start to effect the mind, and you got a crazy loyal rabid dog who has likely never gotten much actual friendly interaction.

Then came Roarke who didn't balk, smiled, and treated her not only as a human, but an attractive one. First crushes are god damn scary man. Especially if you've been isolated.

You start to leave too, you need to wipe the blood off your face, but before you do Cassius says quietly, "Be careful, kid. Don't worry, she approached me first, I wouldn't let you in on this if I didn't think you could be trusted. Nor would I get you involved if I thought she couldn't be."

"What are we even doing?" You ask.

He shrugs, "We're going to rescue a princess, what else? I figured that was your sort of thing, so I told her you could do it."

"So it's your fault she hit me!" You interject.

He shakes his head, "That's just how she is. She really does remind me of my little brother. Granted, she's a lot worse, but I swear sometimes the look in their eyes was just the same. I hope, wherever he is, he's found some happiness." He sips his coffee, "Go get yourself cleaned up. It doesn't seem like you have a concussion."

Your head is ringing, but you trust Cassius when you say you don't have a concussion. You decide to make your way back to your room, get cleaned up, and then...well, you're not sure. You still want to go for a walk, but on the other hand you COULD replay BG2:SoA again. The simgame reproduction has been done very, very faithfully, and something about Amn has always soothed you. A real ocean, that atmospheric music, the magic and dragons and brown elf girls with big b-

"Could you hold this for me?" Someone walks right across your path and puts a ball into your hands as if you were nothing more than a cabinet. You look down, and see that it's a plasteel orb holding a cheerful-looking goldfish, "Sorry, just a mome-ohsweetVenusyou'reBLEEDING!"

Abruptly, the girl with the fish pushes you down on one of the benches, "Sit. Stay. Good boy." She's rather authoritative and seems remarkably self-possessed. Her skin is mocha, and her hair is a very pale blonde, while her eyes are so blue you can't quite look away from them for long.

"Wha...buh..."

"Poor thing. Just hold still, okay? I'll make it better." She's getting down a first aid kit.

Despite yourself...you feel a strange sense of self-possession suddenly. A moment where you aren't nervous despite the fact that a cute girl is fussing over you.

Touhou is actually one of Caesar's favorite series and one of the reasons why he's probably one of the few people who thinks Yoritomo might be cool. Oda recreated every last touhou game using his family's money when he was a teenager and hosts them for free on his holosite.

Venus is a vacation planet these days.

See, after the nuclear conflict, Mars wasn't directly inhabitable. For starters, the gravity there just isn't sufficient, while a floating city on Venus (apparently) works fine. Huge proto-colonies were erected there, and for a while it was basically THE capital of the Solar System. Then it was discovered that crashing Mars' two moons (later replaced by artificial satellites) into the planet itself would give it more gravity and help establish an atmosphere. The terraforming of Mars began in earnest and Venus kind of lost most of its purpose over a few generations. It's a lovely place to live, really, but it doesn't have its own particular culture or mecha, mostly serving as an extension of Terra and Luna.

She takes your glasses off. You look up at her as she pours a little disinfectant onto soft gauze and gently applies it to the cut, "You already have." You're not sure where the words come from, but they feel good.

"I have?" Her touch is gentle, despite the stinging fluid, and she gently brushes your hair back to clean the cut.

"Well, of course. I don't mind taking orders from someone as captivating as you." You realize that you said that out loud, but abruptly you no longer give a fuck. You don't blush or stammer, you just say it, "I'm more worried about getting my blood on your fishbowl."

"Kisses will be perfectly fine, she's a soldier's pet after all." Her touch is a little more distracted now, she dabs at your hair instead of the cut a few times by accident. "Do you feel better?"

"Of course I do. Heinrich Merrow."

"Naomi Heim, I'm with Squad A."

"Me too. I was planning on welcoming you back, I just didn't think I'd look this lame and beat-up when I did." You smile bravely.

She tuts softly, "I don't mind. I got to clean you up, after all. You clean up nice, you've got really pretty eyes." She smiles.

"Y-y-you too." Your voice stutters a little, but for once...it's exactly the right thing to say, because she blushes like a rose, and opens up a pack of gum-aid. These little blobs of sticky stuff replaced traditional bandages a long time ago. They harden on contact with air, keep wounds sealed, and flake off after a few days. She gently puts it on, then sits down beside you. Her legs are long, and her pale green stockings and short uniform skirt accentuate it.

"It's nice, being able to walk around again. To be free to go where I want." She closes her eyes, "The hospital was so sterile, so...cold and white. The Colonel visited and brought me sweets, and I had Samantha and Pierre come and see me too. They're my absolute best friends." She says softly, twisting her fingers together, "But inside I felt so ungrateful, I was jealous that they could walk and pilot their mecha and...and be useful." Her shoulders slump.

"You are useful. You helped me, right?" You smile at her, adjusting your glasses.

She smiles back, "You're worth fussing over, I think."

You clear your throat, "Well, you know, if you want to enjoy walking a little, I was about to go shopping colonyside. We could pick up something for Kisses."

She smiles hugely, "It's mid-afternoon, we might be out there all the way until dinner."

"Do you think they'll miss us at mess?" Momentarily you worry about breaking the rules somehow.

"Y-Y...if...if you want it to..." You sputter. You know what you want to say, and you're trying so hard to get it out, but it's like pushing a boulder up a hill and that rock gets bigger every time you think about the fact that you're asking her out. In your heart, you're expecting to hear 'I'm sorry, I have a boyfriend' any second now.

She puts her finger to your lips, "Because I want to be the one asking you out. May I?"

"Y-Y-Y-Yes."

"Will you go out to dinner with me?" She smiles softly, and you not so hard it's a miracle your head doesn't pop off. Something about her smile restores your confidence.

"I'll make it the best you've ever had." You promise, and she takes Kisses back from you, hugging the plasteel ball in her arms.

"Kisses likes you, and she has good taste. Goldfish only remember things for three seconds, so the fact that she keeps swimming towards you means that she must be deciding she likes you over and over again. I could be wrong, but you seem like the kind of person I could really like."

"I don't go on many dates. I'm a little bit bossy and assertive, and normally guy pilots get insecure about it. It's nice to do it this way for once." She smiles at you, "Besides, you're cute."

"Even with gum-aid on my forehead?"

"Especially then!" She nods seriously.

You're abruptly aware of how warm your face is, but...your confidence isn't gone. No, it's just smouldering brighter, "Good. If it makes you happy, give me some more and I'll make a horn out of to match my mech."

She stares at you, then bursts out laughing, "Don't tease me like that, I took you seriously!"

The next half-hour or so is a bit of a blur. She sees your room, promises to make it livable later in the same way ancient warriors used to swear blood-oaths before a battle, finds some suitable clothes for you among the snowdrift of random civilian gear you brought along to the UJCIDF in case you ever needed something besides your uniform, and would have watched you change clothes if you didn't hide in the bathroom.

At least you're able to surprise her with your jetbike. It and its accompanying helmet are two of the few cool things about you, in your opinion.

The two of you hitch a ride on a shuttle to Colony 2, joining the throng of pilots enjoying shore leave.

"Are there really pirates here?" You ask, a little tentatively.

She nods firmly, "Don't worry, you're safe with me." Her slender arms are warm and her body is pressed snugly against your back as you coast along the streets, "Ah! Heinrich, there, there!" She's pointing at a specialty fish store.

You spot a buddy of yours across the street, but you duck him to avoid explaining how you managed to get a date. Yes, you have friends. At least two. This guy is on the short list to get a Pumpkinseed II and has talked about nothing else for a week straight. You honestly feel that if three days have passed he should just let it go since you and your other buddy already know.

Inside, the store is cool and dark, contrasting with the brightly sunny day outside. Naomi is talking excitedly about pumps and filters and saltwater mixtures and pointing out different fish to you.

You learn many things, mostly about small aquatic animals. Among them, you pick up the fact that Naomi is as passionate about her hobbies as you are. You buy her a small but elaborate castle for one of her aquariums, and she hugs you right in front of the shopkeeper. She makes several purchases, luckily your bike has side-scabbards to hold things like this.

On your way out, though, you see something strange. It's Keith. He's wearing a long dark coat and a shapeless cap and trying very poorly to look inconspicuous as he walks down the street. He doesn't seem to recognize or even notice you, he has a pair of wireless earplugs on and presumably music playing over them.

"I know him." Naomi mutters spitefully, "He kept trash-talking this really cool-looking mech that I really liked, the black-and-white one that looks like a knight."

"That's mine." You mumble, unable to help feeling pleased with yourself.

"I know. I heard how you stood up to him, I was sort of listening in...I was really worried, for a moment, because you were super cool and then Allison ran over and was talking to you first and I thought she'd beaten me to it." Naomi puffs out one cheek, "Why did you go with me and not her, anyway? Oh, and do you want to follow him? He's trying to be sneaky, so something must be going on."

Soul B seems to be shaping up into a sort of deep cover unit to the more public face of soul A. Jesus would technically be both the face and a means to take in people alive for questioning and experimentation. Clemmy upfront murders shit, and Masked Man does the REALLY dirt deeds.

Soul A with King swordfish would liken things to the glory days of heroic aces, but in a rather safe way considering their stealth based betta.

"Your wingman is too cool to resist." You reply, and she bursts out laughing and hugs you from behind, "And besides, you charmed me. She wasn't my type, you are. I'm comfortable around you, even if sometimes it's hard to say anything intelligent because you're so pretty."

"Heinrich..." She sighs happily.

This is the best day. The best. "Let's follow him for a while, but not too long. I'd rather be looking at you than him."

...It turns out, he really is oblivious. You coast behind him on your bike, humming a song to yourself. It's from a series about a one-eyed man who eats live animals and sneaks up on people with a box. Naomi hums along too, until you reach a church.

It's not a very large one, there aren't a ton of Reformed Catholics on California Station. Jupiter with Neo-Romanism and Mars with Hakimite Islam are closer and more dominant, most of the Reformed Catholics are on Luna or Terra. Still, it's big enough that if you went in and pretended to pray, nobody would probably notice you. Or you could always peer in through a window. Or you could just leave.

Considering how fairchild talked about them taking out the stone soldiers so easily, that may come soon. Heroes that 'take out' the green skulls would likely be recognized and if their mechs are unique and identifiable, then that works well for posterboys who'll bring in fresh meat for the grinder.

Really, the fact jesus is being catered and fast tracked so much speaks loudly that they are building him into something.

I'm using my real-world experience here. Sneak in through the door nearest to the stairs to the choir loft, go up to the choir loft, and eavesdrop from there.
If you're caught say you're showing love to your girl in a musical manner.
>>
>>47331091
I want you to think your own question over. JEsus knows our face. Yet on his entire way here to this secret meeting spot, he has at no point checked his surroundings or did reasonable things like finding if he was followed. He dressed up in suspicious clothing that would draw attention and draw WAY TOO MUCH ATTENTION TO HIMSELF when he is suppose to sneak.

This guy can perceive emotions, but his brains, awareness, and his chances being able to lift his head from his ass are non existant.
>>
>>47331091
Walking in lets us see where he actually goes once inside which may be out of sight of a window which if we just peek in would seem a lot more suspicious than walking in.

You walk in with Naomi. You still have your helmet and white jetbike leathers on, and Keith probably doesn't know Naomi. The two of you sit in back and pretend to pray.

There are a few elderly people present as well...

...and one couple, talking loudly, in a side-room off the main chapel. Luckily, you're close enough to hear them without being observed.

"I can't stand it. That place, those people. It's as if none of them realize the potential they have to do good. Nobody cares about understanding each other. Nobody really cares about justice." Jesus sounds distressed, "Today, one of the other pilots mocked me to my face, he said I was a casual pilot, like...like I'm taking it lightly or something."

"Keith...you know better than that. You ARE the hero the galaxy needs, and we both know it. So does my aunt, that's why she recruited you. You and I are two faces of the same coin, one that can buy back humanity's soul. Remember what I told you?"

"Yes, Lysa, always." For once, Jesus doesn't sound proud, just human, and head-over-heels in love.

"Only through understanding each other can we create a galaxy without deception. Human society as it stands is corrupt, unbalanced. The conflict going on outside the solar system has been concealed from them, children as young as sixteen...as young as you or I...are going to battle as it was in the days of the last War. This is happening because people lack unity, they lack people with the will and courage to unite them as a single species. Only you can fix that, my love. Only you can be mankind's savior. That is why I left him for you, remember? Because you are not just A hero, you are THE hero."

Conflict? You know some of the systems have resisted the Solar System League, and you've heard vaguely of the Principality of Avalon winning a few battles against the League itself...but that only makes sense, your resources are stretched thin.

Gender-reversed Space Mussolini is Space Ghandi's Aunt.
>>
>>47331194
Haman is a socipathic psychic space nazi who wants to rule everyone.

Lacus is (supposed to be) a cheery space idol who sings of peace and love. Except she ends up becoming the leader of a military faction that ends up being the last man standing after a big war, and she starts ruling everyone. With kira as her enforcer.

Different series, but it makes so much sense they'd be related here.
>>
>>47331194
Haman was a really manipulative bitch with new type powers if I recall. Even trying to get the protag to /ss/ with her in a way. Also had her hand in making the purus, cloned girls.

Lacus is also hella manipulative and has likely caused a shit ton of strife in the seed universe by getting into Kira's head.
>>
>>47331160
You know, his level of arrogance makes more sense knowing that he's been subjected to this feedback loop pf emotional manipulation. He'd probably still be a jackass without it, but I'm not looking forwards to the look on his face when he realizes he was always just a tool.

"I still can't believe you transferred here for me..." He says.

"I had to come. After all, the people here are in the thrall of a wicked songstress...so it falls upon me to sing them back into the light. My music will be the answer to Red Siren. I will remind them that freedom can only exist where there is order, just as you will show them that light can always conquer darkness. For that to happen, though, you must purge all darkness from your heart, and embody that which is good and pure. Emit love, emit peace, emit justice, emit hope. I know that a wicked man has tried to tempt you into losing your focus with rage...but be assured, justice is closer to him than he thinks, and his fall will be inglorious and unmourned."

"I know! But...but he isn't the problem, it's the people I work with. One of them is literally insane, she built a pillow fort out of-"

"This I know." Lysa cuts him off with a small degree of asperity.

"They flout the rules as it suits them and laugh at me for caring."

"This, too, I know. Yet despite that, despite the storm battering your soul, have you bowed? Have you broken? No, for you are like a fine sword whose edge is undimmed no matter how many foes it hews down. Do not despair, my love. You have sacrificed someone for me, and I have sacrificed someone for you, because what binds us is deeper than space and more immutable than gravity. Please, Keith, remain the man I love beyond all else. Stay pure, stay unquestionably good, continue to fight so that people can understand each other, fight a war with no casualties and hands unstained by blood. Fight for the galaxy we both want to see, no matter the cost." You peek around the corner a little and see a girl with long, pink hair stroking Keith's cheek, the light glittering off her golden hairpin.

"How can you be so perfect after traveling so far without rest? I know the Jaburo only just arrived, but you're so...so composed." He says softly, squeezing her hand against his cheek.

She smiles sweetly, "Your warmth renews me, but there is more to it than that. I am strong because I have to be. Humanity needs us, Keith. Your mech is the ressurection of mankind's greatest hope, Thoroughbred-X, and I have the charisma my aunt does not...and, I flatter myself, a vocal range surpassing even that of Red Siren, the harpy who romanticizes criminals in the eyes of the common man. Before you say anything, yes, I know of your problems with the Iron Kestrels too. Their leader...he should not have come back from the dead. His existence interferes with the work. Ideally, we must see his name slathered with mud before he is destroyed, to create cynicism in the people's minds whenever someone who lives outside the law claims nobility..."

"That is an awful lie. He belongs in prison, not in front of a firing squad."

"A wild animal will always choose death over capture. In this case, you are performing an act of mercy. I love your honest heart, but this time...this time, the imperfection of the galaxy is such that a lie must be permitted to endure."
