Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

“Not until I give the word.”

“Understood Lord.”

Glancing around Yondril you find three faces looking at you with wildly varying visages. Ser Lyonel Langly looks at you with disconcern, his face hardly showing emotion, his hands and feet unbound as he sat in his chair beside the other two. Marceline Sand, the saboteur, looks at you with absolute horror, or rather around you. Her wrists strained against the ropes keeping them in place, the marks there were the least of her concerns however, her mouth was an absolute disaster from Elionwy’s beating, dried blood trailed down from her ear where Obella had gotten to her likely never having healing properly, and above her eye was the unhealed cut from Yondril’s hooked knife. The last Belidos, of the five Captains of the Bright Banners is the most active of the three, he struggles against the iron restraints that keeps his arms and legs in place, Lucas Longwaters stand behind him half-swording his blade in full plate. The look upon his face is of absolute and true spite, fury courses through his veins his breath a ragged anger fueled thing, his eyes bulging so hard you’d think they fit to burst.

Unlatching Yondril’s hooked blade from your belt and handing it to him you see Lady Sand’s expression go from abject horror to total dread, tears beginning to swell in her eyes and the incoherent babbling leaving her lips. Lucas taps her shoulder with the flat of his blade as she begins pushing back on the floor in an attempt to escape. Yondril begins at his whetstone as he often did, crossing the room to where your ‘guests’ sat as you took your place at a desk across from them, propping your feet up and fixing them with a level gaze.

“My dear Lady wife will be joining us shortly.” you say flatly, “In that time I’ll be catching up on some letters, so do keep it down if you would be so kind. I’d recommend taking the time to truly consider how important it is to keep those secrets.”

Breaking the sanguine wax seahorse seal from Ser Jon Longwaters you find a rather quick and to the point letter from your friend and ally. In short his men had begun to track the pirates that had been plaguing him and the shipments of iron inbound to your lands. All signs had begun to lead back towards a small cove outside of the Blackwater Bay, a few of their skippers were lost out about that way before his men had to break off their pursuits. At a guess the captain of his flagship had said there was seven to ten ships, a good handful of them had been the small skippers, a couple of fat cogs that lumbered behind the main force and most importantly their own flagship stripped down galley that dipped 60 oars. The Kingcrab if you had to guess yourself. The Velaryons were still being difficult in offering aid though he was in the process of finishing another five ships and manning them to equal their own numbers. He requested a visit, either you coming to him post Tourney in Highgarden that he did not intend to go to, or him to you once you returned home, whichever you preferred. Mostly to talk shop and plan on how to deal with them, and though not as importantly for you to meet his newborn daughter Isis Longwaters. You smile briefly remembering when he asked leave to honor your sister, all the better that Lorelei had been born, no doubt Obella had already informed Lady Saraya Vollion and they were making plans as woman were want to do.

The second letter was sealed with the blue eagle of House Arryn, you were loathe to see it, assuming you were being called to court again as you so often had been in the past year and a hald. You were instead pleasantly greeted with your sister’s handwriting. King’s Landing had been good to her you found, though the way she wrote you had imagined Lady Lysa Tully standing over her shoulder as she penned it. Much of it was retreading the same waters as she had in the previous letter but at the end she gave you a gut full of turmoil.

“Six months is all the longer I may stay at court Brynden. Lord Arryn is doing his best to stave off Royce’s requests, demands rather, to have me return home so he may see his children. Though he can do little when the bastard shows up upon the doorstep of the Red Keep with the Queen in tow. You should have seen the look she gave me, how I wished to strike her right in that pompous face of hers...” You disliked it immensely, the assumption had been you would be keeping her out of harm’s way for far longer than that. Six months was hardly any time at all upon thought, hardly worth the deal you had made with Lady Tully at Obella’s expense no less.

Though the last letter gave you a degree of peace regarding the matter. The simple thing was written in rough form, no doubt by a man half practiced at the skill, the black wax poorly poured upon it and without any sigil. It read, “We’ve captured the wagon milord. Bringing her home in two weeks tops. Septon’s word was good. -R” A surprising bit of good news in all of the muck and mire of otherwise difficult times. Bribes inbound to the High Septon himself, who would have thought it. Perhaps there Septon Tytos truly did have good intentions.

The door creaks open pulling you from your letters and Obella strides in, the clicks of her heels causing Marceline Sand to cringe and shrink into her chair further. She regards your guests with a dismissive glance before coming to your side, you stand to offer her a seat a gesture that is accepted with a kiss upon your check. Mason closes the door entering last, giving you a quick nod before taking up position behind Obella and yourself, his hand rested upon the pommel of his mace.

“Shall we begin then,” you say with a clap of your hands calling attention towards yourself. Yondril stands to the side, slowly and methodically sharpening his blade, eyes trained upon the three before you. Lucas paces behind them, the sound of hardened leather and the soft clangs of metal the only other thing noise in the otherwise quiet room. Obella sits with her arms and legs crossed, her foot idly playing with her shoe as she stares daggers into Marceline Sand.

“I ain’t tellin’ you a damn thing Second Son,” Belidos says, spitting at the floor in your general direction. Marceline whimpers as Yondril looks up casting a glance between yourself and the Bright Banner’s captain.

Lyonel Langly passes them both a look before returning his steady gaze towards you. For once you could see nervousness in his eyes.

You raise your and towards Yondril, receiving a simple shrug in return as he goes back to work upon his blade. Cruel little thing, occasionally the thought of it upon your belt even made you nervous. Lady Sand sighs with relief as he goes back to work eyes leaving her.

“You know me then Captain Belidos? My reputation proceeds me.”

“Ain’t meant for flattering.”

Lyonel sighs, pressing his face into his hands, “Belidos just tell Lord Malroy.”

“Don’t use my name like you know me Westerosi,” Belidos spits at him before returning his gaze towards you, “Why the hell am I here, huh? Got some dornish whore and a green boy in your lineup. I ain’t got nothing to do with whatever you’re on about now.”

Lucas paddles the back of Belidos’ head with the flat of his sword, “Can it scum.”

“And what do you have to do with, Captain?” you ask redirecting for a moment.

“Ain’t none of your business. Got gold to make, whores to fuck, might get me one that looks your pretty little wife next when the boys run roughshod over your broken castle.”

Obella laughs behind you, placing her hand over Mason’s breast plate stopping him from walking across the room. Yondril again passes you a look, only to receive a hand of dismissal again.

“Plans of war then? And from whom would you be taking these orders?”

Belidos pauses, his vitriol and venom having betrayed him into giving you more than he should have, “No one.”

“Linden Langward,” Lyonel says shortly, “That is who hired you Captain.”

“I said don’t talk to me like you know me you gooseshit boy.”
>>
“He planned to attack Steadhold with or without Royce Redward. Start a war between two fierce enemies with his fake saboteur. Ally himself with the latter and attack with the full strength of the Langward and Blount armies, finally taking what he had wanted, the castle, the horses, the land. Everything. Grasping fool hired you to keep Royce busy, to think he was in control of the alliance. Linden hired you both, is the coin truly worth the pain and suffering it has brought or will bring?”

“Shut the bloody fuck up,” Belidos spits again, his voice torn with anger.

Marceline however has instead taken to pulling her legs towards her chest upon the chair. Shaking her head with tears running down her cheeks, as she rocked she whispered to herself on loop, “I work for Royce Redward. I am Marceline Sand. My father was a Yronwood. Please have mercy my lord…”

“My Lord, I swear upon the Seven I speak true,” Lyonel says to you, “This thick headed fool will not speak truth until you put blade to use. I implore you my Lord, do not allow him the chance to deceive you, allow your man to do his work, and be done with this.”

Grimacing you cross the room, Belidos glares at you before him, hardly looking to his side when you indicate Lady Sand, “Captain. Ser Lyonel seems most assured of his position. Note, he sits without his wrists bound. While you bound by iron and chain. Again, take note, Lady Marceline Sand, a woman that has admitted to intimately knowing your head, Aeror. My man as Lyonel has put it, he is not kind with that blade. Certainly less so when you threaten me, or my dear Lady wife. Now if you wish for your time in Steadhold’s dungeons to be as pain free and easy as possible, I would suggest you begin to talk. I will only give you this one chance of an easy admission.”

Success, one degree.

Remaining silent you watch as Belidos finally allows his eyes to look upon Lady Sand, as before she is hardly a pretty sight, even worse now that she is crying and bunched up in the fetal position. His face hardens, and steels as he returns to face you again.

“I work for Darkwood. Ser Issac Darkwood.”

You roll your eyes, deciding lying for now is the best course of action, “‘Ser Issac’ is dead Belidos. Killed him myself.”

“Bullshit.”

“Mason, Lucas?” you ask, they both confirm with a shake of their heads, “Come now Captain, let us be honest.”

Belidos glances around, Yondril had stopped sharpening his blade again and was looking his way, Marceline whimpering in fear, nervousness had begun to set in on his face, “I work for Royce Redward. Pays me in gold and your whore of a sister’s cunt.”

“Well at least that one is partially true,” Lucas says bouncing his blade on his shoulder again.

“Not good enough Captain,” you say shaking your head and turning your back to him, “Yondril. If you would. Start with the one above the eye.”

“As you wish Lord,” Yondril says standing to his full length with a stretch, the man was massive, easily as tall as Solhas, but as thin as a year old sapling. His arms and legs looked longer than they ought to be, coupled with his smooth graceful movements that made him look more a painter than a master torturer lended him a rather unsettling look and stride as he crossed towards the Bright Banner’s Captain. He hums a pleasant tune, putting the whetstone carefully away in a little bag upon his side, thumbing the edge of the blade with a quick flick to produce a sound on key with his own song. His pockets were all filled with neatly packed items, one of which a sickly brownish yellow liquid he pours upon a stretch of cloth and dabs upon Belidos forehead, he insisted it was to keep the area of puncture sterile so they did not die of infection later.
>>
>>47628873
I don't understand how seducing his of age daughters when the time comes makes us as bad as he?
>>
Belidos had begun to sweat, you could see it in Obella’s eyes, the way she smiled to a degree. Mason’s tell was harder to read, his face stone as Yondril went to work. The clinking of chains told you he had begun to struggle again and then their stone cold silence, telling you Yondril’s blade had come to bear with words coming from lips not soon after, “Alright, fucking hells, alright! Call him off! Gooseshit boy has the right of it! Fucking hell in a god forsaken hand basket call this lunatic off. Don’t know what the fuck you did to Marcy but I ain’t ended up like that. Fucking fuck, fuck.”

You smile and turn on your heel, waving Yondril off who again simply shrugs and goes back to his place across the room. Again you cross, watching Belidos suck down air rapidly, “Who do you work for?”

“Linden. Fucking. Langward.”

“How much of Lyonel’s story is true?”

“All of it that I fucking heard. Fuck. Hired us under the table, we work for him by working for Redward and Darkwood, double the pay for the same job. Make off like bandits after he sacks this shithole. What in the fucking hells did you do to her you sick fuck?”

Again Lucas bounces his sword off his head and the Captain shuts up, grumbling to himself. So there was some truth to Lyonel’s word. At least the part of of Linden actively working against Royce now. Lyonel looks relieved though knows as well as you do that the true word of import was from Marceline Sand. If she admitted the same, then you did have a case against Linden Langward. Enough to declare war if you so pleased, though a trial by combat as Lyonel suggested would perhaps make the bigger impact and without the added expense of greater cost of life.

So is watching the like a hawk by your logic but you'll still insist on it, at the end of the day Brynden has a lot of VENGEANCE towards anything Redward related its half the premise infact so the idea he can be rational 100% of the time is stupid

Eyes cast towards the wreck of a woman, her body shuddering as emerald flame washes over her again. Her hands instinctively go to the thin scar over her cheek where your thumb had once been, fear obvious in the way she attempted to escape you very gaze, “Lady Sand. Can you confirm what Captain Belidos and Ser Lyonel says as truth? Do you work for Linden Langward? It would be regrettable if you lied to me again… I cannot say what Yondril or even my wife may do to you yet.”

She cringes away at your every word, pulling herself up into more of a ball as she could within her restraints. Her ragged whispered words again repeat, “I work for Royce Redward. My name is Marceline Sand. My fahter is a Yronwood. Please have mercy my lord…” she was broken or nearly so. Fear had tamed her into a shell of the person she had once been, so bold as to once dance with you assuming the form of a highborn lady you had once known even if ever so brief. I... Really can't. It's a real rock and a hard place situation. Mostly because it's Brynden being stuck between his vice, Vengeful, and motivation, Family. I have stated that I'm going to start it on a neutral playing field and Brynden will have to build any sort of relationship, if at all, in either direction. Otherwise it will just be indifference to them.

That being said I have made it very clear the consequences of certain actions will be. Isis is a big part in that.

I really can't put a stop to it on this one. Giselle was a different situation because she isn't a part of the game anymore. It was pointless revenge fucking. Not Brynden's thing. The twins do matter in the long run, they'll be important enough that the decisions you guys make are worth weighting and putting into action.

So yeah... Sorry?

adults can be dangerous to our family, especially when their father was favoured by the bloody queen.
this can cause extreme troubles for our house and line.

It's smarter to just leave them the fuck alone and not impotently hate them and have the sister brynden's missed for however many years it's been fucking hate us in return.
>>
>>47629325
IC Brynden wouldn't want his sister pissed at him because he loves her. What part of that is hard for you?
>>
>>47629294

I'd say that extinguishing their male line and marrying two half-Malroys to make the 'Redward' name a Malroy cadet line is the more satisfying revenge.
>>
>>47629422
Why would you marry them they the spawn of scum They deserve to be married off as bastards not of any noble house particularly not our own

Secondly destroying our enemies completely tells people that if you talk shit you will be hit so hard you will probably not get up again
>>
>>47629506
The kiddos dindu nuffin bruh. Went to sept every week, gettin they lives on track
>>
>>47629346
This implies Brynden is capable of rational thought when Redward and family is involved God forbid consequences occur because of a little something like human error
>>
I wonder if obella would allow us to use one of her handmaidens when she goes on her mission
>>
>>47629506

Victus -is- a bastard in the eyes of the laws of Westeros. We're not marrying them to a trueborn Malroy, we're marrying them to our bastard son and having him take the Redward name and estates to use as his own.
>>
“Obella,” you say simply. You hear her stand, the soft click of her shoes reaching you in a few long strides. She takes your outstretched hand.

“Yes my Lord husband?”

“I do believe you and Lady Sand yet still have unfinished business. Would you be so kind as to coax any relevant information from her?”

The smile that spreads across Obella’s face is almost cruel, but at the same time pretty, ladylike, the smile of a Lady trusted by her husband to handle his affairs. It was almost as if you were a true and proper Westeorsi couple. Her hand slips from your own, running itself along your belt and picking out her little blade you had nicked while she slept, clever woman.

“I do not need a leash love. Not to intend offense Yondril.”

“None taken my Lady.”

Deciding it best to take a seat for the proceedings you turn on heel and walk away. You nearly jump at the resounding slap across Marceline’s face you hear no more than a step away. Obella’s voice had gone straight to anger, true hatred dripping from it, “I have not forgotten about you whore.”

Lady Sand merely whimpers in response curling up as tightly as she can to avoid Obella’s hand again. Mason flashes you a look, his face stone as always, this had never been his favorite part, too much Reachman in him, torture had never sat well with the chivalrous Knight. But he knew its purpose, he knew the blood upon their hands, his own intended for them as well.
>>
>>47629689
That is what our family did with Remy Sand already
>>
Leaning forward you watch as Obella goes to work. A quick flick of her wrist towards Lucas draws his attention, another telling him to empty Marceline’s chair. He receives a nod of approval from you before knocking it over with a single swift kick. Lady Sand spills onto the floor, scrambling for something to hide against her back no longer secure in the chair, though she is hardly left a chance before Obella is upon her, grabbing her hair and pulling her roughly up to her knees. You notice how her once full and rather attractive hair had gone stale and brittle, some was clumped together, others falling out leaving spots of baldness.

“Do you forget who I am? Where I am from?” Obella says, her nose half an inch away from Marceline’s, “Allow me to remind. I am Lady Obella Qorgyle. The Lady of Steadhold. A woman of Dorne. Like you. I know the tricks, the game. Play that you are a defenseless girl, scared and scarred by your ordeal. Beg for mercy. Appeal to a man’s sense of right.”

Marceline’s eyes look glazed over they remain steadily upon her bound hands.

“You were taught well. Though not so well as to not be caught. Further not so well as to be able to fool your own. You lying, fake whore.”

Lady Sand’s eyes sharpen, focusing on Obella in an instant, your reaction isn’t fast enough but Obella’s is. The saboteur goes to crack her forehead upon Obella’s face, but instead finds herself dropped and a knife dug into her armpit with a twisting motion, Obella mounting her and wrenching back her arms enough to elicit a wail of pain. Mason has drawn his mace, you the new bastard that was sitting upon your side. Belidos is laughing hysterically though soon quiets when Lucas’ blade rests upon his neckline. Lyonel is quiet watching with careful eyes.

“Obella!” you yell but she only flashes you a dark look.

“Tell my husband the whole truth. Lest I beg him leave a moment’s time alone,” she hisses.

Eh.

I mean we could fuck her and then torture her, but itd kind of be really weird and janky at this point. Not that it might not work, cause someone in this state is eventually going to just break down, but still.
>>
>Success, one degree.

“I’d sooner die,” Marceline eeks out, her face now pressed firmly against the floor by Obella’s knee.

“A shame you better left alive by my dear husband than,” Obella responds, venom dripping from her lips, “Otherwise I would gladly do you the honor. Talk.”

“She cried when I killed her. She cried and wailed your name as the poison took her.”

Obella digs her knee further into Lady Sand’s cheek, the same your thumb had once dug into. This woman had endured untold pain and torture by no less than four hands; Elionwy, your own, Yondril and now Obella, again. How she yet still acted so defiant astounded you.

“I will not break to you, you prideful harlot. The Viper not good enough for you? But willing to fuck his brother for a better station? You’re a shameless power hungry slut.”

“You are a liar,” Obella growls into her ear.

“And now here you are with a Valyrian boy. Pretty as can be in his big impressive castle so far away from Dorne. What are you running away from now? Another botched mission, your cunt not good enough for the Prince anymore? It’s not like half the court didn’t know why you took this mission so eagerly anyway.”

“SHUT YOUR MOUTH!”

“But ordered me speak my lady, I do only as you command,” Marceline says, her eyes now upon you. Words to incite, to cause doubt, you told yourself. Obella had been honest with you, she had taken a fertility potion, she was in Doran’s pocket. These things you knew, you accepted. The purposes were likely more dubious than you had allowed yourself to think, but now that things had turned out the way they had, it was hardly worth the second thought.
>>
Mason shifts uncomfortably behind you, Lucas’s blade had drawn a trickle of blood from Belidos’ neck though his face showed of undue amusement and joy. You go to stand but again Obella flashes you with a look, darker than before. Her hand twists further into Lady Sand’s armpit, “I told you speak of Ser Lyonel’s claims.”

“That petty thing? What does it matter if it is Lord Royce or Lord Linden? They both wish your husband dead. If it truly matters to you who hired me, it is was the latter. Coin was worth the pain, worth it to see you again, to know that I would ruin your-”

Her voice finishes without conclusion, Obella having brought her knee down upon her temple and knocking the saboteur out cold. An admission. Enough to go on. Ser Lyonel Langly had spoken true and you could see the fullness of relief washing over his being. Obella stands, quick to take the offered cloth from Yondril to wipe the blood from her hands. Her face is tear ridden, obviously something had hit a nerve and she refuses your comfort with a shake of her head instead going for the door. Mason follows after with a quick wave from you.

“Yondril, Lucas. Take them back to the dungeons. Ser Lyonel, looks like we have some things to talk about.”

The room is silent a moment after you are left alone with Lyonel Langly, he does not move from his seat, instead resting his arms open palmed upon the rests, a sign of submission, “I swore to you I spoke true my Lord. I simply wish it had not had to go to such extremes for truth to be exposed. Your Lady wife..?”

“Will be fine,” you say flatly, “You on the other hand. Linden and your father, they will not be pleased to hear you have brought this information to me. Do you understand these things are ground for war? That I could just as easily keep you as a prisoner and allow my army to descend upon both the Langward and Langly holds?”
>>
“But you would not my Lord,” Lyonel responds, “There is too much to lose in such a thing. And even you know that it would only give cause for the Blounts, Darkwoods, and Redwards to attack as well. The Longwaters, Hayfords, and Hoggs can only make up so much of that difference. Linden is well aware of that. Again, I’d caution against outright war, my Lord, and I cannot even ask forgiveness for my boldness as this is a matter of my family’s life, but bring it to trial. Do it in Highgarden far away from the politics of the Crownlands and Linden’s primary allies.”

But not of the Crackclaw Point Lords, you think to yourself. The Longwaters and Hayfords were more obviously your allies, but the alliance with the Lords and Knights to the north was not as well known, let alone as expected by much of the Crownlands. You still had an ace, but he did speak partial truths, it was risky business. Steadhold could not stand up to a full blown siege, not in its dire disrepaired state and the possibility of food shortage and revolt as well. A trial by combat in this regard would be to the death, you would need take direct responsibility for these charges, you were not the Crown able to hide behind their cloaks of white. Likewise Linden would as well. A direct one versus one battle. Perhaps it was more risky, if you died… The hell that would occur. Your mind fills with thoughts, possibility. Stomach churns with turmoil. Risk, that is what it came down to regardless. Risk of everyone and everything. But one you must take.

Dealing with Lord Linden Langward:
>Take him to trial in Highgarden, it is almost guaranteed he will demand a Trial by Combat
>Use Lyonel, Marceline and Belidos’ admission as grounds for full scale war

This is a big choice. If you want to ask questions feel absolutely free and I'd expect at least some discussion about it. If we need to we can do a final destination vote.
>>
>>47630603
>Take him to trial in Highgarden, it is almost guaranteed he will demand a Trial by Combat

If we can get someone to champion for us if it i a joust.

If it is just a duel we can do it ourselves.

>>Take him to trial in Highgarden, it is almost guaranteed he will demand a Trial by Combat

I'm leaning trial.

This will likely be a tough fight, I imagine we might be slightly outclassed, but if I remember Arryn's numbers, Blout, Langward and Redward have about 3.5k men, and whatever Orsten has to throw in.

With the Hayfords, Chelsted, Longwaters and whatever Qorgyle gives us, I think we'd be outmatched.
>>
>Langward

Funny thing is. Remember in the start of the quest when Langward actually offered to meet up with us to deal with Redward?

And we pretty much chose to ignore him and then took as much of our land we could away from him.

Glad we didnt fall into his trap even though it was by chance

Another thing that came to mind. In Trial should we fight as knight or as sellsword? That is our advantage in combat.

We bloodied his nose without even knowing the true depth of the intrigue
>>
>>47630742

Arryn might point blank stop us. He likes us, but he's not going to let us start a war, especially with the allies on both sides. And if he needs leverage on us to force us our sister is basically in his custody.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
>>
>>47630748
We already knew.

>>
>>47630792

>>
>>47630630
>If we can get someone to champion for us if it i a joust.

No champions on this one. Linden is foolhardy enough to believe he could beat Brynden directly. And if Brynden puts in a champion, he will as well. Rendering the whole thing moot really.

Also, Brynden is good at killing people with a lance on a horse, not so good with the finer points of jousting and the finesse that is necessary for it. He can manage a bit of a "to the death" jousting that will likely turn into a duel.

>>47630649
Neither has a great impact on it, though going to war will just bring about a conclusion to it faster than Varys would particularly like.

If you had to ask his opinion he would prefer you op for the trial as it would make the Langwards easier to deal with in the future and one of them is already on his payroll as is. Whereas war just makes his long game of against the Queen a bit more difficult, he knows she'll burn any connections to Royce the moment the slavery thing comes out. The longer of a chance she has the better off she'll be. Full scale war means Brynden is going to be preoccupied with Langward and Blounts before he's able to go after Royce.

>>47630687
They'll even the odds pretty well. Mostly they'd be able to descend upon the Langwards from the north and then help you crash down further. Right now, Royce's alliance just barely outnumbers your own. Brynden going full scale war production would even it up.

>Langward as the primary object of the war and have it end there?

You could, but it wouldn't stop Royce and the Blounts from continuing to attack after. And not a lot is going to stop him.

>>47630709
He wouldn't help. He's too far away in the Stormlands and while is able to be cordial with you, doesn't really want to get into things when he's favored by the King right now.

>>47630735
The world of difference a year and a half makes.

>>
>>47630792

>Take him to trial in Highgarden, it is almost guaranteed he will demand a Trial by Combat

It would take longer than the month you have to manage all that unfortunately. Taking the Trial away from the Crownlands is going to help a lot.

>>47630923
>Do we have any allies in the Reach? (Aside from Dontos's buddy Rowan.)

House Rowan, obviously and their banners Osgrey and Webber. Benjin can call in a quiet favor from the Fossoways, because you know, he's just as bad of a maester as all the others. House Conklyn even more obviously.

Not to mention it'll be at the Tourney in Highgarden. Where Quentyn Qorgyle and The Viper are going to be. So... Yeah.

>Does Langward have any buddies in the Reach?
Not so much, his allies are in the Westerlands and Riverlands, a handful of them will be around.

>And is Langly maybe setting us up? Ass-knight and superbitch could have been written off as losses and this could be a setup. What happens if we just go to the Hand with three witnesses, the smallfolk slaves and the weapon crates?

It's pretty clear now that he isn't, he's telling you the whole truth to spare his his family war because he is well aware of the hammer that will fall on him the moment the Crown picks a side.

ANYWAY, looks like a strong leaning towards the Trial by Combat. Which isn't too surprising to me. I thought going full scale war was risky myself, but you never know with you guys.

That all being said though, it looks like we want to maybe want to give Arryn or Varys a heads up beforehand. So a quick vote on that one yes?

Well to be fair. Royce is a bastard. With a Westerlands grandmother that died just prior to the Rebellion. Grow up with a chip on your shoulder from your lot in life and the only person taking an interest in you is loyal to the Lion in the West. Might end up being a little screwy in the head.

By all accounts the Redwards have always been loyal vassals. Vance Redward died defending your brother's corpse, even with half a dozen bolts stuck in him.

Why would they? Do it under the premise of safe upbringing far from our current conflicts. Send them gifts and let them do whatever they want there. Maybe they will join mercenary company or do something equally childish and go their own path in life.
>>
>>47631622
Send the twins away = send our sister away.

That's just not happening.

>>
>>47631669
Right now, only in King's Landing. We could send them to the Longwaters or to the Benedorn but ...
>>
>>47631622
Fuck off, we're not sending them away and risk possibly sending off Isis as well. We worked too damn hard at getting her out of Redward's hands to possibly sour our relationship with her.
>>
>>47631700
>sour our relationship with her
Why do you think that? We have perfectly fine and innocent premise to do that. We care about their safety and want them to be outside our enemies reach. Why would she hate us for that?
>>
>>47631745
She is not stupid anon.
Isis will know, and as soon as its face to face she would call out on that shit.
>>
>>47631700
Reuniting with our sister does not mean we roll over and do exactly what she wants regarding the rape-babies of our sworn enemy. This is basic feudalism. Isis knows the score. She's not gonna murder us like the shadowrunners keep trying to say. It just doesn't work like that.

Isis isn't stupid, anon. She knows how much we hate Redward. I think she can put two and two together.
>>
>>47631786
No one is saying our sister would literally murder us.

She would just hate our guts, break our heart and fuck up our family, what little that remains. e.g. Dontos. Who would side with her out of being a guilt ridden hypocrite.
>>
>>47631784
>She is not stupid anon
>call out on that shit
First she have to be convinced that we only wish harm to them, which is not true. This move has obvious advantages too. If she's smart she won't throw a bitchfest over that.
>>47631793
That's a big smelly plausible mountain of BS.
>>
>>47631786
No one thinks she'd literally kill us, but it would deeply upset her. I'm never going to support being so dismissive of Isis' feelings regarding her own kids, rape or no. Good luck samefagging votes to try to vote to send them away or kill them.
>>

>>
>>47631871
Thing is. Send the kids away, she'll follow, because, Hello, she is the mother, and has a right to.

We stop her following starts up the shit storm engines. Frankly i want to avoid it all. Murder fags, salt fags and people who blame children for shit thats not their fault. They are kids. Leave them the fuck be with our sister and see how we develop with them.
>>
“He will fight, of this you are absolutely certain?”

“So long as you do my Lord.”

You breath in deep, a heavy weight feels like it pressing upon your shoulders. Dontos may not take too kindly to the thought, not without a trueborn son. Obella likely wouldn’t either, her distaste for your more war like tendencies being obvious before the Princewood. But it was a risk you took for the sake of the many, some would call it courageous, other foolhardy glory hounding. You simply saw it as your task. Another means to the end, to see Royce wiped from Westeros and your sister returned to you whole and unhurt. A single domino is all it took, and you were happy to make Linden the first.

“You do understand the great lengths I need go, the risks I will endure to ensure this, Ser Lyonel?”

“Yes my Lord. My family will foster untold gratitude towards you. Even if my father would not see it that way. As I am certain the smallfolk who war ravages far worse than ourselves would as well. You are the very model of a Knight, I could not express that more.”

You laugh, “Do they truly know so little of me?”

Lyonel cocks his head curiously, “I’m not certain what you mean my Lord?”

“I am no Knight. I am as the Captain so aptly put. A Second Son.”

---

“She says she’ll explain later Brynden, wanted time alone with Lorelei, she’ll be in the bedroom later. Not before attempting to run away two separate times and throwing a book at my head,” Mason says, nursing the aforementioned book wound upon his head, “She has a hell of an aim.”

“She did try to seduce me using her bow.”

“Still can’t believe that didn’t work the first time.”

You sigh, patting Mason on the shoulder, “Suppose I’ve the time to spare then, anyone else call upon me today?”
>>
“Only one more person asked for court. Said he was family, I couldn’t tell you how though, older gent couple score more than Dontos I’d guess. He was wearing a badge that looked like the Celtigar’s but his crabs were a mix of gold, black and garnet. Otherwise, still gotta talk to Fairbanks. You know the only way he’ll listen is if you tell him directly about you disbanding the Prince’s Resistance. Former was out by the yard last I saw, gave Pyle a run for his dragons. Latter is down in the Outer Ring by the tent city more than likely, might be best to call him here to avoid conflict.”

“Thank you Mason,” you say eyes trailing off from the window, noting the mid-afternoon sun, your stomach rumbled lowly. The day had gotten away from you with all of the nonsense. Certainly far busier than you had expected it to be.

You could use the stretch honestly, most of the day had been spent inside the castle’s walls. Again taking a quick jaunt down the stairs towards the armory you hear Kate Yarson banging away at whatever particular task Mason had set up for her. Actually thinking on it, you’re surprised he hadn’t said something earlier, perhaps he had just wanted to enjoy your reaction to eccentric young woman. Deciding to gear up in your old brigandine for a quick bit of sparring with the Knights and Sons. The bastard sword still hung on your belt loop all the better to give it a proper testing.

Emerald eyes glimmer in the sun, happy to take the shielding from your mailed hand as you make your way towards the yard. Arron catches up to you donned in his squires outfit as was typical, carrying your less flashy helmet. The boy had gotten quiet again with Victus being in Chelsted now. In truth you both had, there was a certain feeling of emptiness without your son around. Pryor and a knight suited in black armor with red and gold trimming were going a round, the other Knights watching in a circle around them, some of the Sons were watching as well... Wait a bloody fucking second.

“LUCERYS YOU OLD SON OF A BITCH!”

The older man stands up fully, Pryor taking the chance to take a breather with Crabb and Brune. He removes his helmet, the short mess of silver matted down to his forehead with sweat, his eyes reflecting the Valyrian purple of his father. He smiles his crooked old smile between faded whiskers, mutton chops taking dominion over the majority of his face, a deep scar over his left eye, the thing permanently closed from an old battle, “BRYNDEN FUCKING MALROY.”

You meet your old family member halfway across the field embracing him firmly, you weren’t always a hundred percent certain your exact relations with him, Your grandfather’s sister’s son. First cousin once removed? You think? The relation to Lord Ardrian Celtigar was a bit clearer, his cousin, simply.
>>
You pounded on his back plate, with a laugh. You hadn’t seen him in… Six years now. He had tracked you down in Essos by your mother’s request, attempting to bring you home on his ship The Crabhammer. In the end it had turned out he knew he damn well couldn’t, having served his time with a sellsword company in his youth, but was more out there to make sure you were okay. You sent back a few halfway written letters, though nothing to your father. A mistake in hindsight.

“What brings you here Lucerys? Just needed some new Knights to beat up on?”

“Claw Isle does get a bit boring from time to time,” he says with a laugh, his voice a grizzled old baritone, reminded you of your grandfather Emmon Malroy, the brief time you knew him at least, “But no, something else brings me this way. Would you mind a walk, these youngins’ do a hell of a number on my back these days.”

You laugh yourself, “Getting a bit up there huh?”

“Can it lad. Come on, always loved the walls out here.”

A brief walk up to Steadhold’s inner walls allows you a few moments to catch up with Lucerys. He had been at sea the past eight months, traveling up and down the Narrow Sea, spending time in the Free Cities and some of the major ports in Westeros. When asked why the long tour he takes a brief moment to collect his thoughts, scratching at his whiskers with a deep sigh.

“Be honest with you Brynden. Ardrian sent me after Wilson, Helena, and Willas. I’m guessing you already heard about Wilson.”

“That he had died and the body washed up in Driftmark?”

“Murdered more like. I was the one that collected the body, half bloated from the seawater that leaked in from a dozen or so stab marks. Just never could find out by who. Ardrian was ready to blame you, the Longwaters. Had me over there for awhile, never found a thing. Didn’t figure I would. Then I went looking for Helena and Willas.”

“Any luck?”

“Not a bit. Had a few leads up near Braavos. Ended up chasing fleeting word. Didn’t find a thing. That was a couple months ago. Now I’m back down here. Stopped at Claw Isle for a quick argument with Ardrian, sour old man. As he’s want to do. And then decided to pay ya a visit.”

“Not just a social call I take it?”

“Unfortunately not Brynden…” Lucerys says, “Gotta get back to sea here soon, was hoping you might know something about the Celtigar kids. Anything, just some sort of lead to work off of.”

You pause, frowning inwardly. Lord Ardrian Celtigar was certainly loathe to ask your help, though Lucerys wasn’t beyond it. You knew a few things, at least the few things you had pieced together. The stripped down Kingcrab now being employed by the pirates, and the few rumors from Saraya’s contacts in Essos regarding Helena possibly being seen with your doppelganger in Myr. You still hadn’t forgotten Celtigar’s slight, the only reason Lucerys hadn’t been met a swift kick into the Rush was because of your history. You weren’t entirely sure of how or if you should help the Celtigars.

We don't kill them, we don't force them into anything.

Trying to force a kid to be a maester or a silent sister or a septon or whatever is bound to backfire.

But letting them live with Isis in the King's Landing manor wouldn't be a bad call. Might be good for our sister, too. Give her a stipend and a bit of freedom after being forced into a crummy, controlling sham of a marriage, give her a trustworthy guard, let her raise her kids in a nice big house but away from Brynden so he doesn't keep getting the urge to strangle them in their sleep.
>>
>>47633684
Wow, I never expected to agree with most of one of targfag's posts.
>>
“Guessing you know the Longwaters don’t have a thing to do with the whole mess?”

“Almost certainly,” Lucerys says sniffling, “They’re good people. Ardrian is just too blind to see it. Too high up there in his castle to see it. Just as Valyrian as the lot of us, let’s old blood guide his way too much. Same reason he wanted you hitched to Helena. Keep the blood where it belongs, last of the Valyrians, et cetera, et cetera… Hell of a time dealing with him the past few months.”

You sigh, scratching at your face where a beard use to be, “Longwaters have been dealing with some pirates. Showed up maybe six months ago? Couple of skippers, some old cogs, likely stolen. Flagship is a stripped down galley. Dips about 60 oars, three masts. Sound familiar?”

“Kindcrab disappeared about that time. Meets the description, though Wilson had put a lot more into it. Unnecessary nonsense. Got any word on them?”

“Somewhere in the Narrow Sea, Ser Jon Longwaters is working on it at present. I plan to visit him soon and work out a plan of attack.”

Lucerys nods, stroking his goatee, “Might have cause to join ya then. Ardrian might not take it as well… Got anything on the children?”

“Only rumors. Kind of surprised they never reached you.”

“You’d be surprised how little reaches you when your ears aren’t meant for listening. Rumors?”

You launch into a rather lengthy explanation of Illiad’s time in Myr, his meeting of this Ambrose. The rumors that swirled not soon after about Helena being spotted with a man of similar build and features than that Illiad had met. His supposed ties with the Golden Company. The myrish crossbows that Tychano Osten produces being used to guard the ship just prior to its stripping down you guessed. Your suspicions are largely unconfirmed as of yet but Lucerys’ takes it all in, nodding along to your story with only a few smaller questions here and there.
>>
“Ardrian was bitter about your dismissal of the proposed marriage. Should have seen the bloody carpet he had rolled out. Goddamn week of horseshit, just to prove he was good for the coin. Not so bitter to throw his lot in with the Golden Company. Too much of him still remembers the Blackfyres.”

“I never accused him of throwing in with them Lucerys.”

“Aye, ya didn’t Brynden. I did. I’m beginning to worry about him… Half the reason I came out this way. Let me ask you something Brynden. Not a lot of us around still, Malroy blood and all. Could use a break from Claw Isle and traveling up and done the bloody Narrow Sea months on end. And your Longwaters pirates, might be the lead I need. Let’s say I stick around for the duration, eh? Looks like your Knights could use a bit of that old Malroy whipping now that Dontos is off and married.” he says with a laugh, “What’ll you say Brynden? Couple of sellswords running the House?”

Kinda wana see an alternative timeline in which Brynden actually went to Claw Island
>>
>>47633781
Ask him if Adrian would consider it after hearing about his family?
>>
Hang on, since Ambrose killed Wilson, there's an opportunity here, we've nearly gotten Crackclaw point onside and if we prove that the Redward/Langward/Blout/Orsten coalition murdered his son, we could get the Saltygars onside too, bringing in their indebted Velaryons.

Are we on the verge of uniting the Crownlands?
>>
>>47634055
When we die we'll all see heaven, Anon.
>>
>>47634070
Problem: Saltigar (whos son died) is the one who wants to invade Crackclaw point, and is being kind of fended off by us being there. Not to mention hes going to blame Bryden anyway what ever way we play this.
>>
>>47634173

No, I know. But avenging his son's murder *should* take priority over a centuries old whinge about unpaid taxes.
>>

>>47633831
>But he got to tell us all about what Saltigars were planning and thinking about our visit before we canceled.

"Seven fucking hells. Hawking, feasting, lavish gifts, even put up a little squire's tourney in your honor. Willas would have won. Knew you just spent a decade or so in Essos, picked up a few of the finer things from across the Narrow Sea. Trust me, you wouldn't have liked them. About halfway through it would have came off as patronizing.

Ardrian was... Seven, not the best plan to keep you as an ally. Basically he would have made you a vassal Lord in all but name. You don't throw down that amount of coin without expectations of such. His wars, yours. It wouldn't have worked. I imagine. Argued with him near a fortnight over it."

>>47633846
>... but write to Celtigar saying why and asking him to sign off on it. He's likely to hear if we take in one of his knights, better for relations if we ask his permission and give him an explanation.

"...Probably not the best plan. Ardrian expects me out at sea for a few months, this works all the same. End results will be worth it. I hope."

>>47633850
>HE got to tell us how the daughter reacted to the fact that we didnt even show up.

"Helena? Seven above poor girl cried for a fucking week. Thought you were going to be her Knight in shining armor after the last fella tried to rape her in his drunken stupor. Might have been better in the end."

>>47633853
>And of course, pump him for rumors from his end.

"About you?" he scoffs.

"What does that mean?"

"My time is spent on Driftmark and Claw Isle Brynden. Any rumors regarding you is mostly Lady Hilda complaining about how you broke her sister's heart, or forced her brother to foolishly run off and die. Ardrian won't speak of you. His son, the oldest, Wilfred. Not a fan to say the least. He's been focused on the shipyards lately, lot of building. Guessing you know about Crackclaw?"

"Their end at least."

"Hmph. Figured."

You just wish Brynden had gotten a hot Valyrian wife.

How did Wilas actually explain the fact that Brynden werent coming when he returned ?

I am sure we can find some for our sons to make up for it.
>>
You extend your hand, “Couple of sellswords huh?”

“Or whatever they call us now. Lord, Ser, what have you,” he takes your hand in a hand shake that hardly tells of his age, “Be good to see this side of the family again. Miss my mum most days out at sea, you ever meet her Brynden?”

“Lady Emberlei, a few times when I was younger, my grandfather went to visit her on Claw Isle, brought Donold and I along. She wasn’t doing so well then.”

“Aye… Health wasn’t the best in the later years… Too much salt in the air for a Malroy Emmon would say.. Always amazed her that I took to the sea so well. ‘Not meant for ships, meant to be on a horse’ she use to tell me… How’s Isis been?”

“Surprised you heard about her,” you say leaning against the wall, “Doing as well as you can expect.”

“So not the best I gather. I almost died on Dragonstone fighting for the Targaryens, thought Dontos did when I didn’t see him amongst the dead. My brother Eregon ate it in the Riverlands. They told me Isis died in King’s Landing, told me that bloody bastard done it. Ardrian was ready to make a bid for Steadhold… With me as its Lord, cadet to his own, real fucking privilege that. Should have seen him when you showed up again. Old Crab wanted this bloody castle for Seven knows what reason. Thought he had you with the marriage and getting rid of the debt. Never counted on Wilson drowning that hope.”

You laugh, “Think I made the right call?”

“Not for me to say Brynden,” Lucerys says with a shrug, “Got yourself a pretty dornish girl though. Can’t say that didn’t work out for ya. Boys tell me you got a daughter now too.”

“Yeah… Lorelei. Got the purple eyes. Looks like her mother.”

“I’ll have to meet her once I’m not drenched in sweat and in full plate.”
>>
“Obella probably like that,” you say and go for a hug again, “It’s good to see you again Lucerys.”

“Same Brynden,” your cousin says pounding his fist on your back, “I’ll see my way to the armory. I’ll see you at supper later, the grand hall needs another shield I reckon.”

You smile and see off on his way, you take the view in for a moment, bit too late in the day to deal with Fairbanks and his people now. Perhaps Mason would have to be the right man for it. He would be landed son anyway, hell he was your castellan go to near every time you had left, perhaps that level of authority would be a worthwhile investment. You still needed to meet with Quentyn to discuss plans for Highgarden… Though, your mind wanders, worrying after Obella again. She’d likely be in the room by now, Lorelei would be soon to bed, perhaps it was time to see her.

>Go to see Quentyn Qorgyle to discuss plans for the journey to Highgarden

The last generation, you men your Brynden's fathers generation? Vamos, Isabella and Dontos? Or the last as in this one current? Donold, Brynden, Isis, Pastorn?

Former I wouldn't really know what you're talking about they did alright until the Rebellion. Latter, well if you look at the House Malroy Stats spreadsheet the last event was Doom, so yeah. They had a hard go of it. You trying being a fiercely loyal Crownlands Valyrian House during Bobby B's wild Westerosi ride.

But that was what we just did.
>>
>>47634956
That's a situation I've always meant to get into, but never really had a chance to. It's mostly been Royce vying for Steadhold through Isis. But there was actually a good handful of people that wanted it.

The Blounts wanted it because the Princewood use to be theirs.
A man of House Rollingford came out of the wood work trying to claim it as the Malroys had stolen it from his family near three decades ago. He was with the Golden Company, probably a fake.
The Langwards wanted, and still do want it, because Linden is a grasping jackass.
Celtigar wanted it thinking he had an actual claim.
Archie kind of wanted it only because Steadhold has more history in the 300 years it has been alive when compared to the 3000+ his own has. And to be closer to his favorite King.
House Ryger and Grey might have taken a swing at it but got way too beaten up in the Rebellion to actually do so.

It was a real good and proper mess.
>>
>>47635022
I don't particularly want to, personally. Malroys would be better off if they had immediately gone native.
>>
>>47635061
Yeah I realize tons of people would be making an attempt but passing everything through the lens of Bobby B with Arryn influencing him, I feel like absent Brynden and Isis it'd go to Archie.

>>Go to see Quentyn Qorgyle to discuss plans for the journey to Highgarden

unless we can talk to Fairbanks, you just know he's going to take him men and go vigilante- dragging us into a war with Redward before we're ready, or getting us in the shit with the crown for an unprovoked attack.

Seven Hells your castle was larger than it needed to be sometimes, between walking from the inner wall, through the yard, to the armory, undressing and redressing, traveling up the many flights of stairs and finally reaching your room you are damn near out of breath, an hour had gone by, and you were ready for the day to end. Too much for one day, most of it good, but you had a feeling this was not going to be the most fun of an encounter you would ever have with your wife.

You knock upon the door lightly, “Obella?”

A shuffling and shoeless patter of feet meets your ears in response, one of her Ladies-in-waiting, Phena you think, opens the door slightly. And gapping at you for a moment before closing the door slightly, “I’m sorry my Lord. The Lady is not feeling wel-”

“Penella? Who is that?” Obella calls. Twins, always the fucking twins, 0-1.

The girl looks back for a moment, rocking on her heels, “Your Lord husband my Lady. You told me not to allow-”

“It’s fine Penalla, take your sister and you may leave, I’ll put the baby down for the night.”

“I… Yes of course my Lady. Apologies my Lord…” the Hoten twins leave past you a few moments later, allowing you the door that you close behind you quietly.

“Is she asleep?”

Obella and Lorelei are lying on your bed together, Obella propped up on her arm and playing with your daughter’s outstretched hands, “No love. She wanted to see her papa before bed I think.”

Sliding into the bed with ease you draw Lorelei’s attention to yourself carefully sweeping her up in your arms and resting her upon your chest, her little blue amethyst eyes look at you wonder, her babbling being absolutely incoherent outside of being adorable. Obella watches you for a moment before crawling over and curling up against your side, resting her chin on your arm.

“She-”

“Obella, you don’t have to explain to me. You are my wife, I trust you.”
>>
“Even if I haven’t always been honest with you?”

“Particularly considering that. Do we really need to have a conversation about our past relationships? I already have proof of two of mine, I doubt you need the rest.”

She sighs, nestling into you further, “I never slept with Doran. Not that I… I didn’t try once before. I was drunk and young and stupid. We were visiting Sunspear when my Uncle came from the Wall to recruit before he was made Lord Commander, he was kind and gentle, we danced. He politely refused and took me to my room, told me I could do better… I didn’t believe him at the time. When I left Sandstone, he gladly took me in, I learned there in the Water Gardens and Sunspear. He trusted me, I was his advisor, and occasional decorator,” she laughs to herself, “He never liked the drapes I picked… Rumors are nasty things in Dorne. Half of the Kingdom thinks we are all snakes waiting in the sand the other half shameless sluts. Sometimes both. The saboteur, we had a history, brief, but she was jealous woman. I thought she had left for Essos whenever I first came to King’s Landing.”

You breath deep, playing with Lorelei idly as Obella explains her past. You never particularly thought to ask really, she was a spy, an attractive charismatic spy that knew the way to a man’s heart though better the ways to his mind. You thought most things were better left unsaid. Not to mention the jump from entertainment, to one night stand, to paramour and then married came rather quickly. Most things hardly had a chance to be said.
>>
“When I left court they were at their peak. Having a paramour in Dorne is not frowned upon, but when Lady Mellario begins to give you odd looks from time to time, it drains on you.”

“You two seemed fine at the wedding though.”

“She is very good at that. In truth I was scared out of my mind when we went to speak to her, I did not sit upon your lap purely for fun.”

“Shame for me then.”

She thumps her fist into your side gently and you laugh, Lorelei had begun to gather sleep in her eyes and was settling down into the pace of your breath. You remember Lady Mellario speaking with you privately, speaking to the genuine love Obella had felt for you. That was not a woman that believed a spy in her husband’s employ was sleeping with her husband. Obella spoke true though still refrained from a particular topic. One that had been skirted before. Why was she in King’s Landing. The timing, the connections, all of it. Too convenient. A thing you hardly gave passing thought to, but it had been a point before, one that now left you curious.

Obella had taken Lorelei from her place upon your chest and eased her into the crib that you kept in the room. According to the mid-wife it was the same one your mother had kept you and your siblings in when you were newborns. Obella hadn’t quite been able to allow Lorelei to stay in the nursey alone yet, some nights you would wake and find her asleep in the chair there, Lorelei in her arms. She crawls back into the bed with her, quick to undress to her smallclothes and cuddle back up to your side, “I’m going to call it an early night love. The day was a bit much for me.”

“I’ve still a few things to do before bed,” you respond, with your stomach growling in agreement.

“Stay until I fall asleep?”

You sigh and roll over, allow her to nestle closer to your chest with a smile under the covers, her breath matches your own, and you allow your figures to play with the ringlets at the end of her hair. Yet you mind wandered, too curious for its own good perhaps, “Obella?”

“Yes love?”

“Why were you in King’s Landing? What was… The mission?”

Your wife sits quiet for awhile, her body sudden restless against your own.

“You were.”

“I what?”

“You were the mission. The Prince wanted you as an ally in the Crownlands, to be able to place someone loyal to him by your side to keep tabs on King’s Landing. Within the next year I need go there again and do reconnaissance as loathe as I am to leave Lorelei now.”

“How did he know I would be attending, how did he know you would be able to make an appearance at all. My winning the archery contest and the celebration were both by mere chance, the Longwaters set… It up.”
>>
Again silence as you piece it together, it was not by mere chance the Longwaters had made an attempt to befriend you. Saraya Vollion and Obella had history, she had said so herself. Even had you not won, they would have come up with something to ‘thank you’ for your hospitality. Lucas and Jon likely were not aware of it, the former much less so than the latter. Of course the wildcard Volantense woman have something to do with it.

“But why?”

“Why what?”

“Why did you accept? Every time we’ve spoken of men, you did not seem inclined to sleep with them, even if they were of more than important rank. So why was I so special?”

“You um… Weren’t.”

“Excuse me?”

“I didn’t eagerly take the mission. I was ordered to. I felt betrayed in fact. The only thing I was eager for was leaving Sunspear for a moment. My Prince… He is a soft man, some same too yielding. But I know better than that. Even in his moment’s where he looks to be calm and gentle there is a striking strength behind his words. I had little choice. It wasn’t until after I returned to Dorne I realized what he had done.”

“And what was that?”

“...set me up.”

You almost laugh, “The Prince of Dorne set you up with me. Let me say I’m skeptical.”

“Did your Uncle ever tell you about the time he met Oberyn Martell?”

“What?”

“I… Nevermind, it was very long ago I imagine. But the Viper had met you as well if you’ll remember. Let us the Prince of Dorne had a rather large dossier concerning you far before the marriage was even an option on the table.”

You screw your face up, “How did they know I’d go for it? Lord Arryn wasn’t being subtle in his attempts to marry me to one of his own.”

“They weren’t. Remember the fertility potion? They knew you cared for your children, all of them. True or base born. If it hadn’t worked yet I became pregnant... “

“He would have bidded his time. Seven hells.”
>>
“Don’t be mad Brynden, please. Things didn’t work out that way. I don’t know if I could have let it go that far even. But… Doran knew what I wished for, the kind of man that could be someone I loved and cared for. He didn’t pick you for his own purposes, not entirely.”

“I’m… I’m not mad. It’s just surprising is all. I hadn’t really thought everything until now had been preordained by a higher power. Taking advantage of my nature… Even if it was a younger me. It’s shocking to say the least.”

“I know love,” Obella says, sliding her hand up your face, “I promise you, what this is now. What it has become. Is real. I do not belong to Doran, or Dorne. Only you,” you sit in silence, and she draws closer, her breath hot upon your chest, “Brynden can I ask you a question?”

“I suppose that’s fair.”

“Do you love me?”

You hardly miss a beat, though the words feel half choked, an old phrase that had been forgotten in the past decade but with a growing strength of confidence as they passed from lip, “Yes Obella, I love you.”

Apparently I was not a fan of the word 'say' in that post. Yeah I am listing kind of hard over here.

>>47636640
It really is a very Doran thing to do. Hell that required years, a literal decade of work between recon from his brother in the Second Sons not to say that was his only purpose there, just one of many and then meeting Dontos in "Braavos" when he went to sign the marriage pact with the Targaryen children. Though the latter was kind of by chance though with some purpose to make sure Brynden was still kicking it around somewhere and getting Dontos in gear to come home and make sure Steadhold was livable.

He put some kind of effort into it. I'm kind of happy to have finally got the money shot in on it. I've been planning this since you guys met Saraya the first time. Had contingents in if you guys went for Giselle or one of the other girls. I was ready for some max level shadow running. Not to say, that Obella knows everything going on but Doran put some plans into getting his ally and eyes in the Crownlands.

I believe you were one of the many that turned me on to Preston Jacobs. I am shocked how many of those things actually kind of line up with the stuff I've been doing.

Kind of sad I don't fit in with the dragon riding/hatching genetics theory. If the Malroy males really did have that gene, in theory, they'd be married to a Targaryen woman every other generation. So yeah, that's kind of out.

>Damn son, were we going to be in the pockets of the Dornish whatever we did?

Wellllll maybe. It really depended upon whether or not Obella got pregnant or not. Had she not Doran might have taken a different approach or wrote it off as a lost cause. Brynden wasn't the end all be all for him in the Crownlands. They still have Saraya too, just not as prestigious a House as House Malroy is.

Either way their was a 'good' chance that Doran would have figured out a way to get Brynden somewhere under one of his fingers.

>>47636328
thatsthejoke.png

So long I've waited. SO LONG for someone to pick up on that. Big reason they were the 'least Valyrian' House. The Malroys post Doom were in a bad shape, Eammon Malroy, Aeson's father, thought he was the return of the dragons. He was not. At all. His children were descended from a line of a forgotten son, diluted by non Valyrian blood.

There's also a reference to the common Malroy look of black hair and green eyes being very similar to that of the Baratheons and their common look. I've always wondered if someone would piece that together entirely.
