There's a lot of "/tg/ rolls up a Space Marine Chapter" threads that pop up, and while they're fun, there's a shit ton of Chapters that have next to no fluff already in the canon. So I thought it might be fun to fluff some of these chapters out. Its a good place to kick around those half-baked ideas you've had for a chapter, or if you want to come up with something new. Hell, you could even use the tables to quickly get some ground fluff out if you want. A good number of these Chapters are literally just a name with nothing attached, so there's plenty of room for creativity!

So, we could roll for what chapter we fluff on a list I made, or just choose based on color scheme/name, and fluff accordingly. I figured a good guide-line for what to write about them would be:
>Origins
>demeanor/culture/beliefs
>combat doctrine
>strength
>enemies

While I think it would be fun to work on a chapter as a thread up to the point that we feel its fleshed out, there's nothing stopping you from posting an idea of your own for a different chapter.

I thought a good chapter to start with would be the Golden Halos, since they have a pretty okay color scheme, and just enough background to work around. Here's basically all that's known about them:

>The Golden Halos' banner has flown above many a battlefield. Most notably it witnessed the Chapter's victories at Kistvaen, Podzul and the decade-long Siege of Nectocalyx, which was more commonly known as "The Meatgrinder."
>Their motto Ex Ungue Leonem ("Judge the lion by his claws") reveals their proud martial tradition.

So they're canonical badasses with a long history of military achievements. I feel like being a fleet based chapter would work for these guys

>shameful Samefagging
Since they are said to be in numerous battles, and seem to be well venerated, maybe second or third founding would work for them. Doing generic space knights doesn't seem very fun, could be something like a mix between Papal Zouaves and French Foreign Legion, since, as a fleet based chapter, they would have to recruit from all over to maintain their ranks?

If we do go with fleet based, we could have them like the black templars, where they're technically on a crusade, so they can have more than the standard thousand marines, although it wouldn't be by much. Maybe 2000?

Widowmakers sound fun, I made Tormentors into my personal army when there was a similar thread to this one, I'll eventually make a Kill Team to represent them on the table.
>>
>>47651113
All that's known about the widowmakers is that they fought in the war on Armageddon

They have a really ignoble name, so I'd imagine they're pretty cynical, as far as chapters go. Closer to space wolves and storm wardens in personality.

Penitents could have a much higher recruitment age as their genetic quirk.

And they recruit from death row and long sentence denizens of the hive worlds.

Sort of the Space Marine equivalent of the Penal Legion.

They fight to earn forgiveness that they know they can never earn because there isn't enough forgiveness for the shit they have done and if there is then it's been sold short.

All they have left is the dream of a beautiful death.

Known for their masochistic rituals, inability to back down and humility. Even going so far as to accept orders from human commanders.
>>
>>47651259
The marines of the Widowmakers are selected, not recruited. The best and brightest are picked to go kill shit so their home planet doesn't have to. A positive mutation in their geneseed allows them to give it to men well into their twenties (muh mary sues), which is seen by the people of the world as bad instead of good because it increases the likelihood that your life will be taken from you so you can go be a Marine until you die.

The whole planet is a bunch of dreary fucks who were basically a penal colony mixed with a bunch of mercenaries and assorted brigands. They are something of a rogue backwater, only really interacting with the Imperium when the tithe comes around (if the adepts remember their world even exists). Even the PDF, Guard and Stormtroopers from this place really just don't like anything.

However, one of the "corrective" measures instituted by the Imperium was an educational program that focused heavily on civic duty. As the world's government has drifted more and more from standard Imperial policy, the other bits have wavered, yet that one has stood firm. Every citizen is a trained PDF soldier. The government has almost never had to draft for the tithe--all of their regiments are volunteers. Despite the massive rates of depression and anxiety among the populace, their suicide rate is among the lowest of all imperial worlds.

Being a Widowmaker, though... that fucking blows. Unlike being in the other branches of the military, where you get to die pretty quickly or come home after like 10 years, when you're a Marine, you're stuck there for a century or two. No coming back for you.

I'm imagining a chapter full of Bronn and Edd clones from Game of Thrones.
>>
>>47651637
Given their pauldrons and their religious implications, self flagellation must be huge for them. Spending hours on their knees in front of an icon of the emperor whipping themselves for theirs and humanities' sins
>>
>>47651689
I like the idea that their homeworld is a penal colony.

Fresh imports are indentured workers. Once their sentence is up, assuming they survive, they are citizens of the shit hole rather than slaves. Yaaay!

Now you don't get a modest meal per day and a place to sleep. Boooooo!

Most citizens of the Shithole are descendants of prisoners rather than ex prisoners due to the high turnover rate of the prisoners.

Main exports, bar the soldiers, marines and mercenary companies, is uranium. The planet has lots of uranium. This is why there are so few ex-prisoners and those that do survive are often irradiated sterile or have undiagnosed cancer.
>>
>>47651836
That's more direct grimdark. I was going for "these guys have this utopian republic where everyone serves together but they all hate life regardless." Like, they have the thing that billions turn renegade or to Chaos for, and they don't even give a fuck.

I do like the indentured servitude, though. Fits thematically. And the uranium (maybe sulfur too, for extra GRIM AND DARK FORTY-FIRST MILLENIUM).
>>
>>47651637
>>47651720
An interesting twist might be that the Penitents have a problem with their Catalepsean Node that, during their hypno-therapy, they lose memories of their mortal past. This leads to a kind of need for redemption without any real knowledge of what they did. They're constantly fighting for redemption of crimes, and its the Marine's own psychological self doubts that force them onward. Some Marines zealously drive themselves forward believing they had a roster of crimes so heinous and black that there is no real redemption for them other than in death.
>>

Fire Hawks you mongrels, Fire Hawks.
>>
>>47647980
The Dictators are Iron Hands descendants who force their "flesh is weak" motif on the planetary populace in the typical grimdark fashion. Whole worlds populations are converted in what amounts to little more than a planet of servitors and servo skulls. Needless to say they aren't liked very much by the Guard or other Marine chapters, however they have good relations with some of the more Puritan members of the Mechinicus due to both their devotion to the Ommnisiah (some would say to the point of placing it above the Emperor), and because they provide them with millions of newely minted servitors as cheap labor after each conquest.
>>
>>47657020
Right. Flame Falcons are just constantly on fire which implies and they may also be related to those constantly on fire guys who keep showing up out of no where and saving the day.
>>
>>47657043
I'd imagine their chapter specialty would be fielding more techmarines. They could alternatively rely heavily on combat servitors, being an understrength chapter who make up for it with hordes of servos mounted with bolters
>>
>>47657148
Of course, they'd be well within the Mechicums good graces to have plenty of Tech Marines within the Chapter. They'd recruit from Mechanicus Forge worlds that they visit to resupply and sell off their servitor "stock" to unscrupulous Magos'. Some would say they're a little too comfey with the Mechanicus, and much anger has been directed their way by more honorable chapters for their profiteering and the "slave trade" they help perpetuate of unwilling converts to Serivtorhood.

They would much rather go halfway across the Galaxy to defend a forge world than to defend and Agri-world just 2 sectors away...unless they have room in the shop for more "goods". of course.
>>
>>47657286
Also they'd be fleet based, operating in more wild regions of the Galaxy. seeking to crush worlds that rebel against the Imperium in order to bring them back into the fold, this time with no possibility of rebellion.
>>
>>47657384
I don't know how I feel about fleet based. Seems like these guys would LOVE to get into the nitty gritty of running a totalitarian military state.
>>
>>47657423
Well, I suppose they could have a world or too that they come back to. Maybe it's a part of their own realm and they collect their own tithe of people to "convert" every so often? It would have its own planetary governor when they're gone, but it's de facto controlled by the Dictators.

>>
>>47657467
The world would basically be an imperial world run like a 1984-esque dystopia. People would live their lives in fear that they next will be taken, but believe that if they work hard enough that they, somehow, might be spared from the wrath of their unforgiving masters once they come again. The Dictator marines themselves hold absolute authority and control over the populace, their word is law. Despite all this, the populace love the Dictators, seeing them as their guardians who thousands of years past freed them from the clutches of Chaos. Any price, be it their infant sons or their spouse, is seen by them as being insufficient enough to repay the marines for their protection. The Dictators, of course, are more than happy with this arrangement.
>>47657582
Sounds perfect. Their logo should be eerily similar to that of a fasces in my opinion, maybe with a Power Axe or a Hammer representing the Mechanicus.

I'd like to fluff out the Guardians of the Covenant more, but they actually have a surprisingly decent amount of lore for a background successor chapter. Only thing I can think of that could use some elaboration in regards to them is their homeworld, which I imagine as being a fairly typical feudal world. Although, I don't know why, I can't help but imagine it having some Eastern European themes, despite the chapter itself having a more Western aesthetic. Maybe it's just because I'm sick of "Generic Western European World XIV."

I also feel like they'd have an unusual amount of archaeotech due to:
>Successors of the Dark Angels
>Their mission to gather and maintain lost lore
>Being out in the middle of virtually unexplored space allows them to have first dibs on lost human tech
>>
>>47647866
well I've played Black Templars for about 15 years, and over the years the warhammer artwork and the warhammer models in general have gotten a lot better. about 4 years ago I completely redid my army from when I was a kid and gave it a more refined look. I bought a bunch of dark angel veterans and converted them with templar bits to make robed templars, which I thought looks pretty cool. Now that im getting back into the game and painting my army up they're coming out very nicely, but I couldn't help but notice how similar the sister of battle look to the templars.

So I thought it would be cool to make my own custom chapter of templars/sisters and go for a medieval chapel/monastery vibe. Once I get the brothers painted up ill try my hand at making the sisters look a little more nun-ish, then write some custom lore for my crusade. Haven't thought of a name for them yet and I'd need to justify why they work together as one army, but thats all part of the fun.

now for chapters that don't have any lore existing I think the Twilight Swords sound pretty cool. all thats described about them is that they gain rank through honour duels and prefer 1 on 1 combat over any advanced tactical plans.

as far as anything else goes they are completely unknown, don't even have a colour scheme.

off the top of my head im thinking a dark blue lightning pattern over black armour would look cool.

pretty good idea, and similar to the one I had partially cooked up. I originally wanted my templars to be a spin off of the templars that fought at helsreach, reading the story again I see there were also sisters of battle at helsreach, so I think I have my event that brought them together.

There's some cool Indonesian/Filipino dueling traditions that involve invoking one's ancestors into their machete's blade to get their vengeance, and summoning their gods to inhabit their weapon to ensure justice was met not at the wills of mortals.

It also sounds like these guys have very loose structure, so I'd imagine they're mostly a chapter that relies on strict hierarchy to stay in line. We could take an Asian influence to build off of to continue on with the above theme. The first thing that comes to my mind is Japan, could base the chapter of some pseudo-ryukyuan culture.

>>47647980
>>47656738

I'm (slowly) building a force of Knights of Blood. The minimal amount of canon infor there is says that they're a crusading Blood Angels successor who have been excessively bloodthirsty and wound up being declared renegades.

As far as my take on the matter goes, there are a dwindling number of aged veterans and dreadnoughts who comprise the leadership of the chapter, and who consider themselves honourable servants of the Emperor. They want the chapter to redeem itself and continue the crusade in order to atone for past misdeeds. The problem they're having is that new recruits are falling increasingly speedily to the red thirst and black rage, and that the younger members of the chapter are increasingly enamoured with war for war's sake. Heavy attrition and a need to keep on the move to avoid Imperial entanglements causes them to recruit large numbers of aspirants at a rapid pace from worlds they visit. These aspirants form an auxiliary force, which the strongest survivors are drawn from for induction into the chapter. This whole process has created a death-cult of sorts among the auxiliaries and newer troops, one which the chapter elders are blind to, whether by ignorance or denial. Unbeknownst to them, the lower levels of the chapter are verging on the Khornate, and for some of the death company in the depths of the black rage it is not visions of Sanguinius that they see, but the blood god instead.

There's a story about the Angels Penitent that is about this exact thing. The chapter was introduced to new "methods" of controlling the Red Thirst, but only a handful of marines in the chapter realize that they're complete bullshit and are instead dooming the chapter to chaos.

The Blood Drinkers are going through a similar problem with the Rite of Holos but theirs has been a much more gradual descent.

I see it less as an attempt to control the red thirst, and more that instead of taking the care over recruitment and the spiritual welfare of their marines, the chapter veterans have prioritised keeping their numbers up so that they can try to crusade and win back a place in the Imperium. The idea is that that approach is eroding what remains of the chapter's more noble traditions and leading them ever further in the wrong direction.

I've got an idea for the Halo Brethren:

>The Halo Brethren have a fucked up geneseed that takes a lot longer to be fully accepted into a neophyte's body, meaning they can't replenish their forces as quickly as other chapters. The Chapter got fucked over a lot harder than the Fists or the Sable Swords when they went to kill the Grand Master of the Assassin's, signifying the beginning of their downfall. Several key battles they took part in afterwards, victory or defeat, they lost many battle-brothers, leaving them at ~200 left. To mitigate their lack of manpower, they use highly battle serfs as auxiliaries along side their marines, as well as having two companies of Scouts, so as to have a constant stream of marines coming in. The battle serfs would be trained under members of the veteran scout and select few marines to make sure the serfs are battle-ready and well versed in marine tactics.

>The marines proper of their chapter spend most of their time in brutally intensive training on their homeworld to ensure their survival and effectiveness. The marines are incredibly skilled to make up for the fact that they'd essentially be deploying on a battlefield by themselves. As a result of the time, training, and diminished numbers of the marines, each marine is considered highly sacred, with the preservation of their battle-brothers being of the highest priority, both for marines and serfs. Serfs more often give their lives to put themselves in between a bullet and their angels, and the peasants of their home-world are raised in worship of their protectors, so they have no shortage of serfs. They are not above retreat to minimize casualties.

>Because of their uncommon structure, use of normal humans in battle, and self preserving nature, they are treated with little regard among their peers, despite the combat prowess of each individual marine.

Could use some refining, but that's what I came up with

We had a thread like this a while ago, only thing I remember was that the Auric Patricians were either loyalist ECs, or used their gene-seed.

Their homeplanet was that of a Paradise world, iirc, and they recruited from the best and brightest children on the planet, they also owned quite the amount of relics and such, which fit their name.

Can't remember mch about it really, maybe if the anon that wrote it up shows up.

That sounds good actually. I'd be an ironic twist on the fact that they treat all non-augmented humans like shit. "For the Omnissiah" would also be quite popular, and if they're fighting civilians "We will take you!" To scare the shit out of them.

There doctrine would revolve around 1.Lots of Techmarines and heavy weapons 2. Hordes of easily disposable combat servitors 3. Terror tactics in order to slowely wittle down the enemy while they themselves take minimal losses.

How would that work? The best I can say is that it was a chapter that was headed by a former member of the celestial lions after they got got. I dunno, if I was going to do a chapter that was primarily battle serfs, I'd have around 150 -100 marines, instead of 200, but that's just me being an asshole. Its an okay idea, I'd amp up the self preservation though. Make them treat humans like shit, and are constantly on the look out for new advantages and ways to better their chapter. Since these guys seem to do everything slowly, have them meditate often, and generally be pretty scholarly.

The Death Knights have a decent color scheme, might as well give them some love:

They're an Ultramarines descendant chapter founded late in the 38M as a crusading chapter tasked with taking back an important Imperial sector recently conquered by the Orks. Upon arrival however, they found that the Human populace are, oddly enough, content with the Orks, even fighting along side them against the Marines. It turns out this was because the sector had grown to resent the Imperium for its heavy taxation of its agriculture over the years, and the Orkish invasion provided just the catalyst they needed to declare their independence from the wider imperium. The Chapter, made up of ex Ultramarines, realized that it now needed to abandon some of the more revered portions of the codex Astartes in favor of more subversive measures, including using my spy's and assassins to dispatch the Orkish and rebel leadership

Slowely but surely, the Death Guard managed to subjugate these worlds and drive out most of the remainder of the Orks.

They struck a deal with the Inquisition that, rather than subject these worlds populace to purges, that they would allow the Death Guard to control them directly to use as both recruiting worlds and, if they were ever to rebel against the imperium again, as "target practice" for the Chapter. So the Death Guard now control these worlds, hated by the populace, and regularly come down to kidnap potential Astartes candidates from their parents during the night, dressed in black robes and axting silently lest they cause a mob to form.

In battle, they rely on a larger than average contingent of Scout squads, most often trained as snipers and in the art of stealth, which tactics they continue to emulate upon becoming full-fledged battle brothers. Bolt-silencers are almost universal throughout the chapter, and the importance of the use of a knife in CQC so as to eject minimum amounts of ammunition is paramount to their doctrine.
>>
>>47674541
>Death Guard
God I'm an idiot. Anyway, they would basically be assassin marines who are extreamly well suited towards picking off the Enemy High command. They wouldn't be well liked by many of the other chapters who view them as cowards, but they could care less.

Also they'd be under strength after a failed crusade against an Eldar Craftworld.

The important thing is to not intertwine the pieces, but rather keep them seperate. With seperate chapter pages just maintained by one or two people who are passionate about them. If they want to turn their chapter into a suefest, that's up to them, as long as they contain it to their fanon page.
>>
>>47678264
Hua Yuan ultimately boiled down to a dozen or so guys bouncing ideas off each other, and even then it had some hiccup moments where shit got ridiculous.

The thing is, when you have that many people working on something, ideas conflict as to what it should be about, and not everyone is going to agree. The /tg/ Heresy was one of the worst examples of this recently, where people kept leaving and core ideas and characters remained half baked and unfulfilled while we got whole threads dedicated to jerking off Hector as Space Alexander the Great.

There's chapters allied with the Mechanicus and Inquisition and stuff, but I don't know any that work closely with the Adeptus Arbites! Persecutors of Darkness are stalwart marines whose specialty is dealing with the Imperium's most disgusting foe: High Traitors and the obscenely corrupt. They root out Heresy throughout the Segmentum Pacificus before it can fully rear its ugly head. While the consequences for treachery is sift and brutal, the chapter's definition is ranges greatly. Those that obstruct the Imperium in its holy endeavors is a traitor deserving of death. In this, they work closely with the Adeptus Astartes, inform the chapter on criminals too large for them to properly handle.

A Dark Angel successor founded in 33M, they inhabit the world of Ius, a medieval urban world with sprawling concreate mega-cities, ruled by an iron fist. Their Fortress Monastery of Raus towers over the planet's capital, where intensive study of the Law occurs inside its brutalist halls. The planet's Enforcers directly answer to the marines of Ius, acting as both a PDF and police force. Outside of the culturally primitive Mega-Cities lies only farmlands and red-grass plains, with the occasional nomad tribe forever roaming.

Each marine is well versed in the Imperium's Law, and trained in the tight alleys and crowded streets of their homeworld. The Marines are experts in cramped environments, being urban and hiveworld specialists. Combat shotguns are just as common as bolters in the chapter, and power mauls coupled with large combat shields are chapter favorite. Veteran squads even employ cyber-mastiffs

That's all I got. I figured they'd have a similar color scheme to Arbites, though. Please, use this idea however!

Created partially using the chapter creation tables.

The Marines Errantor are a renegade chapter of Imperial fists stock, founded in Millenium 35, who harbor a longstanding grudge with the Black Templars after coming to blows with them over the fate of the unknowing families of a Chaos cult, with the Templars demanding that they be purged while the Marines Errantor insisting that they be spared.

This altercation lead to the chapter being exiled from the wider imperium for a period of 1000 years at the behest of the Templars. To their shock, the Marines took the ruling with solemn acceptance, and their fleet warped of to the halo stars, not to be seen again until almost 4000 years later, where the clean, well kept armor of the marines had become old and worn, their robes became little more than rags, their hair grown to be mangy and unkept. When asked why they appeared so dirtied by an inquisitor, the Chapter Master simply stated "The imperiums enemies care not for appearances, only deeds." Ever since, they have been noted for their terrible hygiene, and their armor is easily identifiable bye the hue of rusted copper, the Imperial Aquila trimmed with a dirty silver. Their chapter heraldry is that of a Staff with an orb at the top, as to say that it's their burden to lead the quest for knowledge, sacrificing any attempt at appearances and ritual to do so.

Before you get excited, not all of them are women.
>>
>>47688379
In battle, the Marines are noted for being able to enter the filthiest of conditions and stand in the harshest of weather and barely flinch. They're extreamly hardy and resistant, their toughness being second only to their extreme stubborness. They hold an utter contempt for advanced tactics and weapons, holding their skill with a bolter as paramount to their battlefield success. Indeed, their favored tactic is to land on the enemy via drop pods before proceeding to empty out and mop up what remains of their forces. To the Marines Errantor, the quicker the better.

They needless to say aren't very well liked by the Mechanicus considering how poorly they treat their gear, with much of their armor being rusted and worn, many with dents and an odd smell, implying that the marines aren't big fans of cleaning or even ever taking off their armor, for any reason. They recruit from one planet, a desert world deep within the Halo stars, where roaming desert tribes fight to survive through vicious sand storms and scrounge up what little water they can to trade for basic goods. The Marines Errantor have entrenched themselves as part of this desert ecosystem, offering a village a years worth of water should one of their young men manage to complete their tasks. These men of course are then recruited as part of the chapte, becoming battle brothers should they survive scout training.

The Marines themselves, while technically allowed back into the imperium, willingly isolate themselves off in the Halo Stars and avoid all contact with outsiders, lest they are there to petition for their aid in a conflict, in which case the High council will convene in order to decide if they intervene or not. That said, they still occasionally are found roaming outside their sector, going across the imperium as both nuisances who scavenge abandoned ships and space stations for scrap, and to protect any worlds in trouble that they happen upon in their journey.

>>

They give no fucks about badges or heraldry. The blue theme is only because the first chapter master didn't really care about the armor color so the adept assigned to manage all their shit just said "wear blue you depressed shitfuck."

This was the first time anyone had ever called a Marine a shitfuck. However, it would not be the last, as the future chapter masters of the Widowmakers appreciated the harsh criticism and brutal honesty and that adept's descendants have served the chapter ever since. Luckily, they hate it, so they take plenty of opportunities to openly question decisions of the leadership.

Why does everyone want marines to treat humans like shit if they're about self-preservation?

How about, instead of that tired trope, theses guys actually care deeply about their serfs, despite their high casualty rate. The marines feel the deaths of their serfs gravely, and mark both their armor and their chapter-keep with the names of the fallen. An individual marine will either mark his armor with the name of each serf that died to protect him/in his care, or will inscribe scrolls upon scrolls with their names in his personal chambers, and meditate upon the lives of those who died.

I'm kind of envisioning a familial feel between the marines and their human-counterparts. Each marine knows that his life is more sacred than those of his battle-family, and that weighs upon his soul heavily.

The marine acts as the pseudo father-figure for his retinue of serfs, stern but caring. The Halo Brethren could refer to the honored dead rather than the living chapter. This includes all the Kriegers-like serfs that died for their emperor

The Brotherhood of a Thousand are a chapter that often follows Black Templar crusades, setting up field hospitals for their Astartes brothers and enforcing martial law in the newly conquered worlds.

Sternguard and Vanguard are merged into one entity, the Leevon Hospitaliers - named in honor of and based on their homeworld of Leevon. These brothers prefer close combat with power weapons.

The other two are really bland (traditional weapons, revere the primarch), so I'm going to formally request a reroll of that shit

>Rare Weaponry: Whether through the blessing of the Adeptus Mechanicus or sheer good fortune, this Chapter has a large stock of weaponry that is considered rare amongst the other Chapters. It is seen as a symbol of honour to wield one of these weapons in battle. Examples: Astartes Assault Cannon, Digital Weapons.

>The Emperor Above All - "Screw your spiritual liege. The big E is where it's at."

Better, mostly.

lastly, 1d10 for what our strength is

>Endangered: The Chapter numbers only a handful of Companies or less having suffered devastating losses in combat, accident, or dramatic genetic instability. If recovery is even possible it will take many decades, making every Battle-Brother (and his Progenoids) an invaluable resource.

Alright so:
>Gorgons
>Iron Hands successor from the 37M, created for strategic prognostication
>Pure Geneseed, however the chapter has a knack for kleptomania, and suffers not the xenos to live
>They are stewards of a desert feral world
>They are codex divergent, and utilize terror tactics.
>They have little to no techmarines, despite this, they have large amounts of (clearly stolen) rare weaponry.
>The hold the emperor above all, even at the point of their own extinction

Pretty concise rolls, I think

I'm thinking about sketching out one of these guys. Two questions:

Trench coat over armor, but only over the chest, like an open robe, yay or nay?

How does "Brother-Marshal" sound instead of "battle-brother"?
>>
>>47703984
Trench coat sounds fine as long as it serve a purpose.

Brother-Marshal sounds fine. I like it actually.
>>
>>47704215
It's most just for looks, like the tabards of the Templars and DAngels
>>
>>47703636
Thieving Iron Snakes who use terror tactics? It sounds really cool, but I'm afraid I'm wanting for ideas right now
>>
>>47649990
Favorite Space Marine color scheme along with the Guardians of the Covenant.

But, even then, the Guardiabs are largely up there for the complementary red robes. On the base color schemes alone, Astral Hawks win for me.
>>
>>47704914
I was really hoping someone would pick them. That blue and black is to die for, but there's nothing on the guys. I whole heartedly agree with you, although I think the black guard and Imperial fists are my runner ups
>>
>>47704974
Yeah, normally I'm not a fan of color schemes that dark, but the blue/black compliment each other well.

I could see them as Ultramarines or Imperial Fist successors from an ice world. Maybe even Dark Angels.
>>
>>47705019
The blue is just light enough to not blend into the black, so it really stands out. Wouldn't know what paint to use for it though
>>
>>47650334
Don't know if this is a dumb idea, but how about these guys are on a crusade to the Andromeda Galaxy? That's why they're technically lost, they can't be used by Imperium anymore. They're like a time capsule for the Imperium. No matter what happens in the 41st millennium, they will continue the Emperor's fight on for eternity
>>
>>47705084
As the guardians of some long-shot colonizing mission, or completely on their own? On their own, they could do nothing but be slowly whittled down, but with millions of colonists, Mechanicus factory-ships, hydroponics- an immense undertaking, to ensure humanity's survival no matter what happens to the Milky Way.
>>
>>47705084
>>47705149
I like the idea actually but how about they brought along a large vessel of civilians to keep their population up, even though it's not working a whole lot
>>
>>47705186
>>47705149
Some plan put together by the Admin centuries ago lost in the mountains of paperwork, nobody but the chapter and the colonists knows their fate, if they've reached their destination, or if they're damned to wander the vast emptiness of the void for eternity
>>
>>47705247
I'd say a few centuries in and they'd have well over a thousand marines, all complete martial badasses sans experience. Outside of numbers, they have to be strictly adherent to the codex Astartes and Lex Imperium, since that's one of the few connections left to the Imperium at large
>>
>>47705247
Yessss, I love it.

Whether they fought for the emperor and died or if they still fight for the emperor to this day, their mark has been made
>>
>>47705299
Their motto should be "Humanity Unending" or something like that
>>
>>47705354
That sounds really appealing, maybe add a little something extra to the end, I'm brainstorming right now
>>
>>47705295
>like fucking 10,000 marines by the time they get there

I like it because it turns humans into mini Tyranids for whatever's over there
>>
>omega marines

Wait, are there alpha legion successors?
>>
>>47705843

No. The name is likely a coincidence and their geneseed is most likely something boring like Ultramarines.
>>
>>47705854
Could be the last Ultramarine successor where their geneseed starts to deteriorate real bad, mutations left and right. So they struggle real bad to be like Papa smurf's perfect chapter. Maybe throw in a little Lamentor luck, too
>>
>>47705843
>>47705854
>>47705920

The Ultramarines' symbol is an upside-down omega.
>>
>>47705950
Shit dog, that makes it easy. There's is a right side up omega. Also, could have a beef with alpha legion, but that might be pushing it

What force better to say "bitch, you're part of the Imperium now, here are your responsibilities" than a entire chapter of the Emperor's Finest?
>>
>>47718269
Touchet. They're great at fighting feral tribes, but mostly suck against larger foes. Real pompous chapter, despite their ego
>>
>>47718370
I assume 'suck' in this context is a relative term.
>>
>>47718560
Well, yeah. They're still Astartes, each guy is a walking refrigerator with 20guns taped to it, but as far as SMs go, they're just average and under experienced fighting something like chaos or nids
>>
>>47718620
Frankly, I'd expect anyone in 40k making contact with primitive societies and going boldly where no posthuman has gone before to run into Chaos on a regular basis. Maybe not the big CSM-led warbands, but I'd expect primitives trying to summon demons to smite their foes and actually succeeding to be pretty common.

I play Dark Angels mostly, but wanted to have an ally detatchment for the stabby parts without really deviating from the DA as far as fluff; enter the...

>Knights of the Lion (Was Knights-Errant, still deciding really- but the picture is their crest so.)

>Really, they don't deviate from the codex on paper- to include their first and second companies (Called "Orders" in this chapter) which do not host the "Deathwing" and "Ravenwing" counterparts. Instead, a secret 11th Co. (The Order of the Watch) hosts the combined utilities of both forces. In combat the Knights prefer to attack their enemies in melee- putting great emphasis on the "honourable" pursuit of skill in swordplay. Beyond even the Watch, a final bulwark of the Knighthood awaits in secret on a hidden asteroid base; the "Paladins". They are long time veterans and champions of the Watch who await in stasis pods for the day the knights believe that their legion's primarch will return to vanquish the foes of the Imperium.

>Melee Combat, Deep Strikes, Naval Boarding Actions, Overstrength (Secretly)

> Although the Fallen are forever the true enemy of the Inner Circle- the company at large has had a long-standing opposition to Freebooterz in their sectors.
>>
>>47718825
That's actually a nifty idea. Guys fight the forces of chaos before it can turn into full fledged warbands. They are humanity's guardians of the forgotten. Looking out for humans that aren't even known to exist to the galaxy at large
>>
>>47718842
So they're Autherian Marines specializing in melee ship boarding actions? Quite the sexy chapter

If it means anything, I think I prefer Knights-Errant. They're alread 5 or 6 chapters with "Lion" in them
>>
>>47718886
On a 5-century crusade to explore new worlds, to induct new peoples, and to purge the Xenos scum for His Holy Name!

The Inductors, the bold bringers of reconquest!
>>
>>47718954
Yeah, I think i'll change it when I can be bothered to think up something else- there are quite a few Lions. The Lannisters would be proud.

As far as playwise i'm trying to make a Blood Angels list that suits them without breaking the fluff too much.

Organization wise they keep their Orders seperate; each commanded by a Knight-Captain. This is two fold- they fight pirates so easier to keep their forces mobilized to respond to localized threats, and it hides their numbers. But- I think when I make my Watch units- they're all going to have black shoulder pads instead of the Lion- ala the Nights Watch where they "relinquish" their connection to the Chapter to serve a higher calling. (The bidding of the Inner Circle) When someone goes from the 1st to the Watch- they're reported as dead.

>Chapter Master's log, anno 37,489...
>>
>>47719057
I'm assuming all the Watch commanders join the Paladins to continue on their eternal vigilance. Are these guys secret to the rest of the Imperium, or do the Unforgiven know about this

>>47719137
The Watch is known to the Unforgiven at large, but the Paladins are the secret of the chapter- known only to those who serve the Watch, the Lord-Commander of the chapter, and to the Supreme-Grandmaster of the Dark Angels.

Forgot one part of the Watch- their personlization. Since they do not represent their chapter- they cover themselves in their personal accomplishments- partially with the hope to earn a place in the Paladins. Each man however bears a blank shield affixed to their left pauldron. The only marking allowed on this is the carefully engraved name of the Fallen who they personally have a hand in bringing to the Justices (Interrogator Chaplains).

You know, if you're short for names, there's the list it took me an hour to throw together.

Did I miss it, or did you ever say what the color scheme was?
>>
>>47719646
I didn't say their colors- but:

Everyone has black armor (White trim for standard, Silver for sergeants, Brass for veterans, and gold for Captains and specialists) but the pauldrons color represents their Order they serve with the Lion always being white.

1 Dark Green
2 Dark Blue
3 Dark Purple
4 Dark Red
5 Light Blue
6 Orange
7 Light Blue
8 Light Red
9 Yellow
10 White (Leaders wear a black lion), and scouts are not allowed to bear the Lion until they are knighted from their status as Squires.

The Watch: Black with no Lion.
>>
>>47719773
You know, just thought of a character for the next time I play a game with the Watch.

I'll name him later- but lets go on to assume that 99% of the Watch are those ascended from the ranks of the Order of the Sword (1st Company). But, any member of the Chapter who is presented with the Truth before the proper time but comes to grips with it in the properly righteous way is allowed to enter the Watch. (Most are simply mind-wiped of any incidents)

Enter our hero, known as [Stand-In] the White. He was a squire when he first came to the Truth, already assessed and ready for the knighting ceremony but awaiting a lull in the current campaign against a chaos cult to have the Knight-Captain and Chaplain present. Taking to the field when a crack in the lines appears- he took up the sword of a fallen Knight and did battle against a black armored CSM.

Through skill and the grace of the Emperor- he bested the foe but was stopped before dealing the killing blow by a Justice of the Watch. Although the need for secrecy called for the Squire to be mind-wiped or otherwise disposed of, the Justice was impressed by his skilled victory despite being outmatched by his foe physically and so called for the Judgement of the Supreme-Justice and the Watch-Captain.

After a long debate it was decided that the young Squire would have joined the ranks of the Honored Dead- and that another brother would would be added to the Watch. His personal heraldry reflect his humility- still bearing the White of the Scouts on his right Pauldron to remind himself that despite his placement- he has many years to go before he will truly feel an equal to his brothers in the Watch.

>Shattered Angels
>Formerly the Rising Angels
A young Dark Angels successor chapter that baptism by fire was the a massive WAAAAGH!!! which nearly wiped them out, especially as the machinations of a band of Fallen Chaos Pirates saw their ability to produce further generations crippled.

They take their moniker of Fail Marines as they seemingly have had no luck at any stage of their existence. Even now they fail to realize that the local PDF and IG regiment that they are allied with are actually the remnants of Gue'vesa auxillary units that protected their "homeworld" before the Shattered Angels arrived.
