In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

>>47759952
Okay, here are some background stuff, I want to have done: thoughts anyone?

-Investigate every and all connections between the GoR, including serfs, and the honor guard of Ursus, I am searching for friends etc.

-Have Targos screen people, including chapter serfs for being spies (Kest Ursus etc.), if he does not do so already

- Lord Admiral Hagen should have a list of combat ships that were damaged/could have defected to the triachy for an initial guess of their strength. Also more up to date reports, if available. Furthermore the number of civilian ships, especially large transports and shipyards in the area are of great interest for planning an eventual invasion of the triachy.

Lastly I want to confirm, whether the important people are informed of threats we identified, like the genestealers of san larion.
- Use our spy to identify Ursus assets/holdings
>>
+Current situation+
Chapter has no ongoing open conflict operations. You've just retrieved Belisarian heirs right from under Sector Governor's nose. At the moment you are on the Aspera Dominus, course is set for your homeworld - Mormark.
>>47760019
Which one of these tasks do you identify as the main priority? I see three intentions:

1) Chapter counter-intelligence

2) Preparations for the invasion of Styrian Triarchy

3) Contra-Ursus intelligence

My vote goes for Chapter counter-intelligence. The Triarchy should not be involved more than it is already as long as Ursus is power, and we shouldn't risk Contra-Ursus intelligence yet.

However no one can blam us for setting up counter information for us

1. The Black Templar visit. This would be a good time to resolve all that. Maybe we can give them retribution baneblade STC?

2. We rolled a 4 for xeno-lore when examining that destroyed convoy in dominus, was never answered.

3. D'Anger info rolls were never answered before the heirs stuff came up.

4. Can we spend an HLoT favour to get mormark quarantine dropped early?

>Maybe we can give them retribution baneblade STC?
No. We should not admit to be in possession of anything deviating from the codex. Especially to lunatics.

Also we should have a chat and possible DNA ID with th kids. Furthermore make sure the noble is well cared for, but inform him that due to an ongoing crisis, we have to keep him in custody for now. We will talk with him, when the fog is lifted.

>The Black Templar visit.
We'll get to that as soon as you'll return to Mormark.
>We rolled a 4 for xeno-lore when examining that destroyed convoy in dominus
After careful examination of space debris you find an interesting anomaly. It appears that some of damage that's been dealt to the Imperial ships was done not by crude weapons, but precision strikes of some weapons strongly resembling lance batteries, but dealing damage more similar to plasma in effect. One of the reasons why convoy fell so quickly was that these weapons destroyed Imperial ability to resist within the first minutes of the attack. True origin of these attacks is hard to determine. Have greenskins gained some new weapon? Or are they working with other xenos? That wouldn't be unheard of, but nonetheless is extremely rare having in mind how violent orks are... Brethorius suggests:
>Milord, I believe that it would be a wise idea to strike one of the ork worlds at some point in the near future. Just a recon mission, take some captives, find out what's current situation in their primitive twisted empire and get out. It would be good to have more intel on them and men could use more experience against moderately dangerous enemies.

>D'Anger info rolls
Reo's report comes in.
>Chapter Master, I can assure you that Tesalia D'Anger is alive and well. Even more so - I believe she is plotting something. I don't have a clear idea of what that might be, but I have some suspicions. I have managed to find traces that she was trying to acquire some rare items from the auction houses of Templos. Whether she succeeded or not I do not know. I also came upon job offer being mentioned in one of the darkest corners of Tartarus space station, about working for a woman, who is looking for meanest, toughest, bravest bounty hunters and mercenaries on this side of the Segmentum.

Either him or Targos the GoR guy for it, maybe both.

the report is rather inconclusive, please elaborate on your suspicions and the nature of the items. I am interested in suspicions as well as hard facts.

In the chat we are kinda agree that for now, you should go into detail only as much as you think the info is necessary and leave the in-dept description for later

>>47760230
How far away from the Sector would you like to meet them? If you intend to do it far away so that it would be outside the reach of Sector Governor and his allies, you'd need to meet near one of these worlds:
>Orana
>Valhalla
>Ornsworld

Or even closer to Terra.

>>47760522
>Possibly. I had to quit trailing her because I came under suspicion that I might have been noticed and I wouldn't want to either risk my well-being or act as feeder on false info. I might be able to drop hints in the right places that you are looking for her.
>>47760604
It will be done. As your analysis was very good, Nestorium will need to roll under 12 to reveal any further information.

+D'anger
>I just reported what I know, I wasn't able to get closer to her. The only option left for me would be to take up her offer and show up for a job interview. I might try to do that... But if she'll find out I am working for you, it might not be pretty.
>>
>>47760703
>But if she'll find out I am working for you, it might not be pretty.

So she does know the GoR were the ones who betrayed her father?

Just leave a note saying that 'we' (leaving our identities secret) noticed her rare purchases on templos, and have other things she might be interested in. We can meet to trade them in the...I dunno Wladistan? system.

As for the mormark quaratine. Do we wanna spend a favour to get it lifted guys?

1 Favour will be enough to reduce quarantine by 15+d10 years, because of your recent exploits, so just 1 might not be enough. If you will give a good reason why Mormarkian population should be trusted, you'll get another +d5.

>So she does know the GoR were the ones who betrayed her father?

Reo thinks for a moment:
>I don't think so, or at least I don't have the evidence, but she doesn't strike me as someone who would like spies, it doesn't matter for whom they work. What kind of impression should I make her of you when offering to meet?
a) potential client - someone rich (cost 1W)
b) potential ally - someone she can trust (give her enough hints to realise who you actually are)
c) someone not to be messed with (cost 1 Corruption - you might need to leave someone's head on her doorstep)
d) an enigma - leave her guessing till the last moment (lower chance of her agreeing to meet)
>>
>>47760928
>a) potential client - someone rich (cost 1W)

As for the Mormarkian people:

"The Mormarkian people are hardy and unwavering in their devotion. Their leader Kerius Dermont is a loyal governor of the imperium and would ensure all proper precautions are taken in exchange for his world no longer being suffocated. Though I agree a quarantine was required in the wake of the invasion, its effects have waned and the ongoing quarantine serves to stymie further growth of the world."
>>
>>47760928
see
>>47760870
If possible, tell her you can connect her with mercs like she seeks. (read a serf or scout or even us in a robe without armor, face veiled)
>>
>>47760971
>>47760928
I'd like to add that Mormark paid their tithe faithfully to the Ministorum, and allowing them to do so further would certainly benefit the sector and the Imperium.
>>
>>47760928
>If you will give a good reason why Mormarkian population should be trusted, you'll get another +d5.
As the others agree on it:
Maybe we can come to compromise, a partial lift of the quarantine enough to loosen the grip that threatens to strangle Mormark, but only a select few will be allowed tp travel. (young people who did not come into contact with the invasion force, maybe)

>To Brethorius: As the orks are independant, you have any idea which one we should investigate.
Brethorius uncomfortably coughs:
>It wouldn't be my place to lecture milord, but if you would recall our basic training, orks, while being highly violent and independent creatures, are highly interconnected on subconscious level. Indeed at the moment all of the identified ork worlds are independent of each other, however if there's some sort of commotion, such as rising warlord or threat(promise?) of conflict, Orks should still have at least some sort of feeling. Maybe I am wrong and it's nothing, but I just think it might be worth a shot. Any bigger ork world will do. Ideally we'd want to capture one of the warchiefs or maybe even a weirdboy, they are the most in touch with whatever passes for Ork herd instinct.

>I would say on the distance scale, close to middle, but maybe a bit off the direct path?

Feel free to pick a world from a map I posted. Sector Deus is brushing shoulders with Sector Gothic so that you could imagine.

>>47760913

You receive a soulword from Terra:
>Your wise words and recent deeds bring this matter to our attention. Monetary Circle of the Lower Council will meet to discuss it in d3 years time and then we'll announce our decision.

Hey y'all! Quick note, the children are safe in the Tombstone, yes? Start getting them literate and aware of the sector history, things like basic commerce and such. Don't push them too hard yet, but it's kind of imperative they get groomed into prospective leaders if we want to raise them up as the legitimate leaders of the sector.

Also, send a message to Eliam in Templos.

>"Dear Eliam. My apologies for the abrupt end to my previous soulword message, but there may be an opportunity an entrepreneur of your standing and blood will be loathe to miss. The Iron Pheonix station above Mormark offers many interesting trade opportunities. If you would have the time in your undoubtly busy schedule, you are most kindly welcome to come and see it, and talk about future opportunities."

>"Honest and true regards, the Ghosts of Retribution."
