The frog monster, encased in its gigantic, slimy bubble, grins at you both as it approaches, somehow swimming through it and yet moving the bubble forward. It's not moving very fast at the moment, but there's something... unnerving in how it moves. And somehow it seems to be... well, almost taunting you into attacking it, with that stupid grin on its face.

"T-Termina, you've got a way to beat this thing, right?" Lynna asks nervously, moving behind you.

Well, let's see...

You draw your sword and swiftly swing it forward, the beam bolting from it and towards the monster's bubble. It enters, but somehow starts to dissipate inside, right before reaching the target. However, the bubble weakens slightly starting to "leak" where your sword struck.

The monster frog becomes enraged, and somehow bolts at you through the bubble, slamming into you. You're knocked on your back and... eww eww eww eww! Agh it's everywhere! It's SLIMY! Eww eww eww! The monster "swims" at you through the bubble, menacing grin on its face. You push yourself up, trying to ignore the slime and focus on your foe, this time coming up with a better plan. "Lynna, get this thing out of the bubble!"

She takes aim at it and fires her hookshot... latching onto the monster right as it's about to take a swipe at you, your shield blocking the hit. The surprised frog creature is quickly pulled out and flung against the wall. The bubble leaks out completely, you moving quickly to avoid the leaking liquid and take a hard slash down on the creature. The monster shrieks in pain, swatting you back, then quickly hops away, croaking angrily. The liquid from the bubble starts following the monster, reforming around it...

You look to Lynna again. "That trick seems to work. Hit 'em with your Hookshot again! Don't let him stay in that bubble!"

"Got it, Termina!" she responds, taking aim. The monster realizes what she's doing and starts to move towards her, but she stands firm. The Hookshot bolts towards it and latches on, pulling the creature out of the bubble and, with Lynna spinning around slightly, slamming it into the wall.

You run at the now-stunned monster, letting out a yell as you pull out a bomb. You jump up and slam the explosive into the monster's open mouth, kicking off and moving away with a flip. You turn away as the monster realizes what is about to happen to it. The bomb explodes, finishing the creature off for good, its body disappearing in a puff of blackened mist.

Lynna seems slightly star struck as you walk towards her. "That... w-we... you were so cool!"

The door opens, a chest falling down from the ceiling... covered in the same slime.

"R-really?" she asks in surprise.

You nod and giggle. "Indeed. You stood your ground and managed to keep it out of its protective bubble." A bit of slime slowly drips down from your hair. Eww... "Speaking of, I need... at least five showers now. Maybe six." Lynna's turn to giggle as you walk to the chest, trying to shake it off. You desperately hope that this stuff doesn't harden quickly. Opening up the chest you find...

You take the stairway to the left, hearing the sound of sloshing water down there... and the sound of creatures hopping around. You stick close to the wall, finding a more cavern-like area with a few pools of water there. From the sound of things... three Tektites, and possibly an Octorok.

"Termina, look!" Lynna points at one of the pools of water.

You spot a few shimmering figures in there... fish! Living fish! "So, these waters aren't poisoned." you comment aloud. They're also deeper than they seem. Though... first thing's first. You've got the element of surprise...

You ready yourself. "Lynna, on my signal, use the hookshot to bring one of the Tektites close. I'll deal with the Octorok."

"Got it, Termina." she responds, steadying herself behind you.

You move around the walls and locate the Octorok. Bringing your crossbow out, you quickly strike at it when it pops out of the water. Your bolt hits true, slaying the monster... and causing one of the Tektites to locate you and jump at you. You stumble back a little, but it puts the monster right in Lynna's line of sight. "LYNNA, NOW!" you shout.

She grabs the monster, bringing it closer to her. She twists in order to slam the monster into a wall, dazing it, and letting you slash wide at it, slicing it in half. There's still one more left...

"Zas, let's go!" you shout, summoning the Phantom Knight. The two of you move around, cornering the last Tektite and taking it down. You sigh out loud... well, this room's cleared.

"Tha- that... that..." the woman stutters, pointing at Zas as she comes back to you both.

You rub the back of your neck apologetically... eww, slime there too. "Lynna, this is Zas... actually, can it wait just a moment for explanation? I need to splash my face. Please." you plead.

She nods slowly, still staring at the Phantom Knight. You quickly run to the water, cupping some in your hands and splashing your face with it. The slime starts to come off, to your relief... and you spot something curious in the water. A... switch?

"Sooo..." Lynna starts, looking at Zas nervously. "...mister sword ghost thing, can you... understand me?"

"I can." he answers.

You clean off your face. "He was one of the Knights of Hyrule, before the war. Lost his life in battle as the coup started, and his spirit couldn't rest in peace. Not with an evil presence, the same one I believe has been responsible for incidents like this, on the rise." Ahhh, it's gone! No more slime on your face! "He was stuck in the Temple of Hylia, in Castle Town. The Great Fairy there made a pact with me, so that he could last just long enough for Hyrule to be saved from this coming evil."

"I... I see..." Lynna seems a little saddened, but nods. "Well, uh, nice to meet you, Mister...?"

"Zas."

The three of you look around the area, noticing a wall that seems to be slightly lighter than the others. It's still very solid, though, can't bomb your way in...

"Lynna, there's a switch in the water there, mind hitting it with your Hookshot?" you ask.

"No problem!" she replies cheerfully, moving to the edge of the water and taking aim. It hits the switch, and the wall opens. You head in, finding a chest. You open it up, and...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VRr9NG7RE0

...you got the [Crown of Love]! A mystical power flows through it, apparently granting the wearer a barrier around themselves, though something about it seems to feel heavy.

You take the crown and head back up with Lynna and Zas. "Lynna... you seem to be handling this better than you were when we started. Are you? I don't mean to doubt you, I just want to make sure this isn't too overwhelming for you." you question, looking at Zas again. "This... IS a lot to take in at once, after all."

She's quiet, but not worryingly so. "I... I'll admit I wasn't so sure about heading in after confronting what happened to that Zora..." Her hands fidget slightly. "...but I need to save my home. I WANT to save my home. And... eheh, well, you're so young, and yet you seem so determined on saving Hyrule, with help or without it." She smiles sweetly. "I don't want you in over your head, kiddo."

You can't help but laugh at that comment. "I say again, I've been able to handle myself before. But I thank you for that concern."

You reach the upper layer, looking into one of the other stairways you haven't visited yet. In there is... a pool? A proper pool! And a chest. There's nothing in the pool, but it doesn't seem connected to any waterways. Doesn't... LOOK dangerous.

You look at the body of water and, approaching, splash it a little. Yep, it's water. "Zas, um... mind stepping out for a bit, to stand guard?"

"As you wish." the Phantom replies, floating up the stairway.

You almost bolt into the pool, removing your poncho and cleaning the slime from there... and just about everywhere else you can, washing yourself. You sigh out, pulling your head from the water. "That's better~"

"You sure it's safe in there, Termina?" Lynna questions, approaching nervously.

You move to the side of the pool. "It's not connected to any waterway, and it would be a fairly odd place for the poison to be. The shallow area in the other room was free of it, too. I believe it's safe." You pull yourself out of the pool, throwing your Poncho down to let it dry, and opening the chest on the other side of the room. Inside is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppy8d8_iEQo

...the [Temple Map]! All right, now you're set!

You head back in to make sure your clothes are properly cleaned. "...say, Lynna, you sure you don't want to take a dip in too? It's not too cold." you state, giving a playful splash.

"Ah, tempting..." she responds, seriously considering it. "...tell you what, we make it out of here and get this mess all fixed up, we head to the beach near my home. I can even lend you some spare swimwear!" she tells you with a laugh. "...tops might be a bit big for you, but I'm sure you can manage."

You give her a bit of a defensive glare and mumble out a "Hey!"

"Of course, of course." she chuckles.

With yourself cleaned up, you and Lynna head into the next room opposite of the one you were in, Zas rejoining you both. There's another pool just like the one you were in, and a chest opposite it. Inside it is...

...a red Rupee! Score, literally!

...but your wallet is full. You hand it to Lynna, who promises to hold on to it for you.

The three of you move on to the final room, spotting the Zora still in the water, who gives you an approving nod. He seems to be doing better... well, as best he can given the news he got. The room has a series of switches, all with chests behind them. Well... this looks like quite a treasure trove, but it's also a bit suspicious. Two above, and two to either side.

You don't waste any time, and bolt towards the upper floor with Lynna and Zas. You make it to the doorway, opening it, Lynna noticing a pot to the side and bringing it with. There are two pillars with locks on either side, each with a slot matching the keys. You and Lynna put them in, opening the larger door blocking your way.

Inside there's a large pool of water, with a prominent, natural waterfall flowing down into it. Behind, there's another doorway, locked tight. The three of you step forward... and the water churns. You and Zas ready your swords, Lynna holding up the pot she was carrying as if to throw it. The creature moves, popping its head out of the water...

Oh Goddesses...

It has the head of a Zora, but a tremendous, serpentine body at least three times as long as Zas is tall that is almost like it's MADE of the water itself. It opens its mouth... and the mouth KEEPS opening, past where a Zora's normal mouth would be, teeth like some bastard mixture of a shark's and a snake's. It makes this... awful, hissing, gargling roar, halfway sounding like it's drowning, a clear liquid that's definitely not water dripping from its mouth.

You hand Lynna the Crown. "Snag it out of the water when you get the chance, Zas and I will keep it occupied."

She nods, placing the Crown of Love on her head. A bluish glow seems to spread down from it, looking halfway like the cross between falling water and glistening ice, forming a barrier. She seems to move slower with it on, as if through water, but doesn't suffer any other ill effects. She readies her Hookshot as you and Zas ready yourselves.

"With me, Zas! Surround it!" you order, dashing to either side of the pool of water. The monster snaps at you, seeming to focus on you, allowing Zas to take a strike at the creature, hovering a tiny distance above the water. It does less damage than you'd hope it did, though, and the creature snaps at Zas in retaliation. Lynna grabs it by the head with her Hookshot, pulling it out of the water. You bring up your Crossbow and strike it in the back of the head, causing it to make that same disgusting sound in pain, then quickly bolt to where it landed and jump up, slashing at it.

The monster recoils into the waters, head staying just under the surface as it seems to blast viscous balls of clear liquid out at you.

You keep up this strategy, running around the monster to distract it. Unfortunately, one of monster's attacks manages to graze your right leg, causing searing pain as you stumble. But you don't let up, rolling out of the stumble and putting yourself back on your feet as it prepares to strike you down. Right before it strikes, you step to the side, shooting its eye with your crossbow, Lynna grabbing the head with her Hookshot and pulling it out of the water again. Zas helps you up and jumps with you to the monster, the two of you slashing at its head.

It shrieks and roars in pain, this time completely disappearing into the water. You hear thudding sounds in the deep... and the water starts to rise as it sloshes about. Some splashes on your injured leg, causing the searing pain to return. Lynna quickly grabs you by the arm and pulls you away from the water, Zas raising his shield.

Looks like it's on the ropes, but this might also put you in danger...

Well, if it thinks it can hide deep down there... time to show it it's wrong. You ready a pair of Bombchus, placing one after the other down. They start moving into the water, you backing up to try and keep away from the water. A pair of explosions can be heard and even felt as they explode underwater, launching the horrid amalgamation of a Zora and snake monster into the air. It's badly injured... but not dead yet. It crashes into the ceiling of the room... but locks eyes with you, pushing itself off and trying to go in for one last blow.

Lynna quickly Hookshots it in the head and tries to reel it in away from you, but you still get struck by its tail portion. As you're slammed onto your side, the monster is slammed into the wall, Zas slashing at it. You force yourself to stand once more, pushing past the pain, and bring your sword out, jumping up and, with a roar of "FOR HYRULE!" you plunge your blade into the monster's head.

It struggles slightly, but its movements slow quickly, finally stopping and bursting into blackened mist starting from its tail. As it passes... you notice it look at you with its one good eye. You hear it breathe out in a horribly disfigured and yet chillingly silent voice... "Finally... peace..." before the head disappears as well.

You collapse to your knees, Lynna rushing to your side, shouting your name. "Termina! Oh please, please hold on..." She tries to shake out whatever is in the pot before resorting to smashing it on the ground near you. You spot... a fairy? Lynna looks at it as it floats near you. "...well don't just sit there, help her!" she demands of the little sprite in a desperate voice. The fairly quickly moves to you, healing your body back to full strength. Lynna smiles as she offers her hand to you. "That was a close one."

"That it was, Lynna. I am truly grateful for that... and I apologize for worrying you." you tell her, taking her hand and standing up.

"Ah, it's nothing, really!" she states. "Don't think either of us could see that last attack coming before it happened. You're fine, kiddo."

"In any case, I thank you." You look around the area, the waterfall above suddenly stopping for a moment... and then flowing normally. Out of the corner of your eye you notice... aha! A [Heart Container]! ...ah, so Lynna probably didn't need to rush to you, but... thought that counts. You grab it and then notice something peculiar; there's a fish that seems to have fallen in the water after the sudden break in the waterfall... and there's nothing wrong with it. The water has been restored to normal.

You move closer to the waterfall, scooping some of the fresh water out of it. This'll fix that old Zora up in no time!

You and Lynna head in to the Great Fairy Fountain, Zas returning to you. You notice a fairy float in behind you, giving you a rather rude look, before joining the others in the Fountain proper. The fairies all swirl around each other, becoming a bright and brilliant light...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGJAP8kOMGo

They take a humanoid form, this one taller than the previous two, but thankfully still fully clothed. The form of a woman dressed in a modest blue dress steps forward, hair the color of the sea, a comforting and motherly smile on her face. "I welcome you two, and am grateful to you both for making it through this trial." she states in an almost song-like voice. "Fearful as it may have been, you pushed on. I, the Great Fairy of Nayru, shall prepare your reward for this accomplishment. Please ask any questions you may have as I prepare it." She closes her eyes and begins to strum a harp.

Lynna glances at you, then to the fairy. "Er... reward?"

"Indeed. It is of those who can-" she stops herself as she opens her eyes again, noticing the crown on your friend's head. Her... cheeks redden slightly. "...oh. Oh my. She's... but then..." Gauging the confused reactions her sudden stop created, she shakes her head and tries to continue from where she stopped. "...who can use magic. It... seems you currently do not have that gift, young one, but I may be able to grant you some limited ability in it."

You bring up the more serious questions first. "I wish to know more about the two Zora races."

She seems to sigh happily. "They are both races blessed by Nayru herself, cousins, or perhaps siblings, that come from the same lineage. The Zora of the River, sometimes called Zola, are more territorial against those they are not related to. They can be quite easy to provoke, but are also fiercely loyal. The ones who guarded my Temple, the temple we call home, have been dutiful and noble men, in spite of their... attitudes at times." She frowns, strumming her harp. "...it will be more lonely with one of them no longer with us. I wish I could do more. Still, you allowed that poor soul to rest in peace."

You look back at the door you came in through and frown. Still... "Then might there be something you can tell me about the Mask Man, who tried to meet with you?"

She tenses up, still playing. "Meet with me? That... I dare not call him a person, he was like a Wolfos in a sheep's skin. He tried to offer me a mask as a trade for information on the Temple's founders. I could FEEL the evil coming from him, but worryingly I almost missed it. As if someone masked the scent of dead fish in a field of flowers. That mask he offered me? I have no doubt it would have corrupted me far worse than what happened to the Zora you faced."

...worrying. That said, you look at the bottle with the fresh water in it. "This belonged to someone involved with this Temple's founding, did it not?" you question, trying to put two and two together.

The Great Fairy relaxes, smiling again. "That it did. The Hero of a century ago simply found it too useful on her adventures, and she believed that those of times to come would find similar use out of it. While one of her group felt it necessary to have the items blessed by the Goddesses, the Hero was... practical, almost to a fault. Ah, she was almost as clever as she was courageous." she adds the last statement with a nostalgic sigh.

You look over to the Crown of Love on Lynna's head. Items blessed by the Goddesses, huh? "...I assume you are talking about this Crown, and the Belt of Winds. But why did you become flustered when you saw it on my friend's head, Great Fairy? Did it gain some sort of... reputation? ...have the Zora been using it as a symbol of engagement?"

She stutters for a moment, somehow not losing her tone on the tune she is playing on her harp. "Th-that... well... n-no! It is merely..." Her face reddens again. "...it was meant for a Queen. Showing... love, the partner of Wisdom, and how it... protects... and..." she trails off into a mumble. "In any case, such love, love that protects, is one of the aspects of Nayru herself. May this love, this power to protect, enhance the Wisdom that you possess. This... is [Nayru's Love]."

Her song finishes, light filling the area around you as she makes a symbol resembling the symbol of Nayru with her fingers, warmth filling your body, a surge of magical power flowing through you. You lift into the air slightly, and step down. And you notice... Lynna seems to have gotten something as well. You look to the Great Fairy and smile with confidence. "If Nayru's Love comes in the form to protect, tempering and strengthening Wisdom through it, then you have my word... this power will be used to protect Hyrule. I... we shall save Hyrule!"
