You watch the swamps through the keen eyes of gargoyles, the small Reconstructed perched and hidden in the dark trees that bled a white sap. The rains continued leaving everything it touched with an oily sheen and touch. A tall tripodal creature stalked through the brackish water underneath a gargoyle, spearing a wriggling organism their with harpoon like tongue that disappears into a blunt beak. It continued on its way only to run afoul of a juvenile of the same creature you faced the day before leaps out of the water snapping its beak at its legs.

The gargoyle watched the creatures struggle, the juvenile speared by the striders sharp tongue over and over as it nimbly avoids its graceless lunges. There was a sudden rumbling boom that shook the trees sending small creatures flying with buzzing wings, the gargoyle launching into the air to land on top of the canopy. It's keen eye sways and surveys the bleak sky, the noise being too powerful for simple thunder.

Through its eye you see it as it descends through the clouds towards the plains you had derailed the train in. At first you could not tell what you were looking at until it finally breached the cloudbank, leaving a gaping hole miles wide that let the pale sun shine through to illuminate the floating city. Even through the Reconstructed from where you sat on the frigates bridge you could sense it, an immense beacon of necrotic might that would give even Jadyk pause.

A city of twisted, misshapen spires drifts down from on high completely dwarfing the pair of the cruiser-sized floating buildings that flanked it. Bolts of sickly green necrotic energy crackle periodically from underneath the city as it travels across the plains toward the city the train had been bound. One of the cruisers departs from its side, descending to where the wreckage of the train lay scattered on the plains.

You ponder once again just where in the universe you were flung and just what the future held in store for you.

You are the Voidknight Disciple, a nameless hero of the New Necrotic Armada, far flung from your comrades.

On a strange world saturated with Necrotic energy you found the raw materials needed to create a Cauldron, a key tool for your return. Shockingly easy to attain was the fluids that fueled the creation of Reconstructed, liquid necrotic biomass pilfered from a native supply train already processed and infused.

After encounters with local wildlife and the local inhabitants you sought refuge in the dense swamps. There the ship was repaired and the Cauldron created while you explored an abandoned settlement. Several of the former inhabitants were discovered burned alive inside a strange monolith of necrotic forged metal.

Now you watch as a city several miles wide floats over the dark plains, a cloud of smaller craft buzzing around it like flies over carrion. You feel it tug at you, a beacon of necrotic power that feels oddly familiar.

Gargoyles sail high in the air despite the constant rain, eyes watching the distance and the floating craft. The cruiser hovers above where the wreckage of the train would be, specks of light moving from to and from the craft to the ground, possibly the engines of vehicles searching the scene.

Another rumbling blast reverberates through the air, shaking the trees once more, as the floating city comes to a stop over the glow of the earthbound town. A beam of light connects the two like an anchor. The hole in the clouds slowly seals itself like a healing wound, plunging the massive craft into darkness once more and hiding it from the gaze of your gargoyles.

Their attention was pulled though to the cruiser where more motes of light detach and lift into the air before splitting apart to begin a circling search pattern. Eventually they split into groups, heading various directions to begin their sweeps anew. A patrol grows close enough for the gargoyles to make out a trio of gunships, primitive looking engines sputtering to keep them airborne. Splayed beams of light emerge from a bubble of glass at their noses, sweeping across the landscape as they searched.

In time they will reach the swamp you are hidden in. The frigate is partially covered by foliage and mud, hoping to disguise it as a large boulder or hill but you do not know the capabilities of these natives.

The Reconstructed throughout the ship pause in their tasks, going motionless as the search party begins its sweep of the nearby swamp. You watch a screen showing the view from the gargoyles and sensor clusters on the ship, the flickering search lights passing over trees that seem to visibly cringe at their passing. The gargoyles hid among the branches and tense as the beams pass over them, sending a chill through their slender forms.

>cont
>>
>>48281010

You and every Reconstructed and even the ship itself seems to tense as the beams pass over the frigates hull, the sputtering of their engines echoing out. Then the beams pass uneventfully. If you breathed you would've let it out in relief as you relax but the sense of safety is short lived.

The gunship sized craft, it's prow shaped like a heavily mutated human face with a weapons barrel extending from it's screaming maw, spins suddenly around with a burst of its engines. Its searchlight, focused into a beam, passes over the settlement then swings over to the frigate where it lands on its hull and freezes.

The Think Tank in command of the ship blares out an alarm, saying that the gunship was using primitive radiowaves to call out in a strange language but the Gargoyles spread throughout the swamp watch as the other craft bank hard, breaking their search to head for their comrade hovering over the frigate.

You watch as the other craft near your location, the first craft slowly circling your frigate. The Think Tank brain says it analyzed the beam and it seems to be detecting the Necrotic energy of the ship itself. Swearing in the ancient language of the Wormstar you wave your hand as Voidflames swell around you and the frigate powers up as well.

The gunships jerk at the sudden power surge, the searchbeam dissipating as the gunship reverses away but it was too late. Flayer turrets and autocannon mounts lift and swivel, tree branches and vines that had already started to grow on the ship fall way or snap. Beams of condense necrotic energy crackle out as autocannons spin up barking with burning metal as you attack the gunships.

The one that discovered you ignites, its hull melting under the firepower of the necrotic flayers only to be cut apart by a stream of metal from the auxiliaries. The other gunships nearing your location attempt to bank away at the sight but the frigate lifts into the air with a ripple of void light, turning to aim its fixed guns at one, the significantly more powerful necrotic flayers slicing through the air to detonate the gunship. The other strafes, managing to avoid the initial onslaught of turret fire while unleashing its own armament.

The main gun firing from the prows twisted face was eerily similar to a necrotic flayer, that while weaker than what a Necrotic Armada Gunship could manage, still manages to scour the hull of the ship. Primitive slugthrowing gun under its spread wings fire their own rounds to strike the frigate only to be cut off by the shields rising around it.

Snarling out a command to the Pilots fused to their workstations a barrage of Needle missiles launch from their pod and the small explosives scream out in simple joy as the streak for the gunship. It recoils from the attack, its guns firing wildly and it manages to shoot down several before the others strike it with a series of explosions that leave falling to the swamp with its engines on fire but still mainly intact.

Crashing through a tree it comes to a stop half submerged in the muck as flames lick at its hull, a gargoyle perched nearby watching as several humans in bone armor struggle to escape the mangled wreckage before it leaps into the air with the others to rejoin the ship hovering over the swamp.

In the distance the other patrols cut their search and you watch as they move closer, the cruiser investigating the trains wreckage turning slowly to head for the swamp.

What shall you do now?

The main cargo door under the frigate opens and Stingers rappel down ropes of braided sinew, landing in the muddy water with splashes around the tree. They haul up their shields as the humans open fire from their position, slugs of metal ricocheting harmlessly off the layered bone and metal. The Stingers hiss as they move as quickly as they can through the mud and muck, charging the tree from all sides.

Panicked shouts erupt from the tree in the natives language until they're caught off as a Stinger fires a grenade into the roots of tree from their thumper. The canister bounces off the roots to land in the mud before erupting into a cloud of riot gas. The humans struggle to escape the suffocating gas, one of them dragging one of their injured kin who was missing a leg from the knee down.

Fleeing directly into the Stingers who quickly subdue them with solid punches to their helmeted heads. Clutching the humans they are quickly reeled back into the ship by the sinew ropes tied to them. Their prisoners secured in the prison with a Talon tending to their most severe wounds, the ship lifts itself higher with a ripple of void light.

Suggesting while we look for a place to hide scan for minerals that may prove useful and build some diggers to excavate a hidey hole so we can hide the ships necrotic signature from general surface scans

Once that's set up see about building some tanks to grow kelp in and begin farming

Also if we build a new cauldron I was thinking we should hook up explosives and a pump system to drain it quickly and collapse the base should we need to retreat behalf a small void bomb to remove all evidence of our being here if things go south

We may also want to check the captives for radio or tracking devices. Won't matter how well we hide if they have a beacon

You give the command and the frigate fires its engines leaving a trail of twisted voidlight in your wake as the ship catapults away with the gunships in pursuit. Pilots manning the weapon turrets swivel in their stations as the turrets and auxiliaries rotate and open fire. The first of the gunships cockpit glows under the concentrated flayer fire before it melts off and dives sharply into the swamp.

The shields crackle with the gunships flayer attacks, the ship thankfully resistant to the necrotic energy seeping through them. Autocannons fill the air around the ship as they cut through several gunships, one detonating as its engines erupt and another has its cockpit splattered by a spray of blood as a burning round finds its pilot.

The gunships try their best to attack the frigate as swamps give way to rocky plains with the glow of the volcanic zone on the horizon, herds of leaping tripodal creatures fleeing the craft dueling above. A salvo of needle missiles launch from their pods screaming through the air to swat another pair from the sky. The dwindling attackers swerve and dive trying to avoid the frigates fire but yet another goes down in a ball of fire.

Plains give way to canyons carved over the eons by the rivers below and the frigate makes passing note on the scrolling map of several mining operations but they are left far behind. The remaining gunships follow as the frigate lowers itself, racing above the clifftops while still firing at them. One more volley of needle missiles are launched, the small hard to hit explosives driving the remaining gunships to break off their pursuit, one crashing into the ground as they lost control, another exploding as their engines erupt.

Free of their pursuers the frigate races for the volcanic fields ahead. You are reminded of the Lavafathers moon as you look over the fields of geysers, lava fields and canyons carved by boiling rivers. Hiding in a large pillar of steam emerging from a vast sinkhole the frigates integrated Think Tank takes a moment to assess the ships damage and scan the surrounding area.

While waiting you look through the Talon tending to the prisoners to see its progress. You had wondered why they had yet to be implanted with domination spikes but you see the reason for its hesitation. Sunken into the skin of their necks were metal collars carved with the wormstars runes of domination and subjugation, but lacking the finesse and power that Jadyk or the Think Tanks could produce with the spikes.

The unconscious prisoner missing their leg, now cauterized and stabilized, was considered the most expendable so the Talon turns to them. Claws glowing with heat they carve through the collar and pry it from their flesh. Underneath the skin was thick with years of scarring from constant infection, the flesh underneath hot and oozing pus. Implanting the spike into their shoulder the Talon moves on to the other, less unconscious prisoners.

The frigates Think Tank reports that a nearby canyon showed signs of a cavern system and you give the command to investigate. Carved over the ages by a boiling river the canyon was shrouded in steam that rose from the bubbling pools of water and geysers. Caverns dotted the sides, stream emerging from them to join the river that emerged from a cavern mouth just large enough for the frigate to carefully inch its way inside.

Within the cavern was larger than it seemed and the ships lands on a mostly level shelf of rock. Sensors detect the cavern and the river continue further in, the temperature at a point that would deter most living beings but would be of little consequence to the Reconstructed.

The garoyles leap from the ship and flap through the humid air that leaves their large eyes watering from the gases of the cavern. Several follow the river for some way, splitting off to follow several sidepaths and streams while the rest explore the nearby tunnels leading away from the main room the frigate sat in.

Several Stingers leave the ship and begin searching the cavern itself, one retrieving a canister of the boiling river water to analyze. A quick test as the gargoyles continue their exploration reveals the water was rather acidic, proven by how the stingers armor had corroded on its hands when it retrieved the sample but also contained traces of metallic ore suggesting the river flowed through a vein.

The Think Tank remarks that the Stonestars would be quite at home in these caverns and you nod in acknowledgement as you watch through the eye of a gargoyle exploring a cavern where a spring bubbled up. Mats of luminescent bacteria line the edges of the pools with organic looking tubes growing from them, the gargoyle scraping up a clawful of both for the cauldron.

In time the gargoyles return after their exploration and the Think Tank reports their findings. The cavern system was rather extensive, the rivers source discovered at a large cavern where it bubbled up in a torrent from a large spring. Near there the gargoyle detected metallic ore in the stone.

Discovered:
>Mineable ore vein
>Bacterial mat samples
>Cave worm

What are the chances of creating a Necrotic drive for interstellar travel, perhaps something that decays the distance between two points allowing the ship to slip through the gap?

And on the subject of ships are we able to create combination ships, say like one with void repeaters and solar repeaters with one of each engine, that way should we encounter something resistant to void we flip the switch and hit them with the polar opposite.
