Welcome back, Kestrels, to the forty-fifth installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest! I'm Wong, your host, and as always you are Admiral Roarke Starwind, the most interesting pirate in the Solar System's asteroid belt!

Last time, on your way home from one heist, you immediately engaged in another. Countess Loriette Marie le Kennedy thought that you were placing yourself in her hands to become one of her servants, but in fact she was following you to Auditorium to become your hostage. Such is the power of sweet talk and being too damned pretty.

Now that the game is up, however, her conversation is anything but polite. Standing in her mech, the Paladin Anseis, atop the bow of her damaged cruiser, she somehow manages to convey both impatience and anger as she paces back and forth in the cage formed by the cannons of your battlefleet all poised to cripple her vessel at the first sign of an escape attempt.

Yay, time for a boss fight who will hopefully NOT go snackbar on us.

Whoah, a Mekton space pirates quest? Neat!!!
>>
Before we fight, our mech should kiss her mech's hand.
>>
>>48576458

And in her yelling against us, she basically confirmed the existence of a Tohsaka Rin expy.
>>
>>48576464
I dont think she is in the mood for that right now to be honest. She'll probably charge as soon as we get out there.
>>
>>48576484
I thought she really hated Haman, but that makes more sense

>>48576464
Nah we do that in person
>>
>>48576488

Nay. As a lady, a duelist and a noble versed in fighting etiquette, shes not going to charge us right off the bat.
>>
Maybe we'll have the chance to use that old write in that didn't get used with the duke. I was really sad that it came in too late.
"One man's hero is another man's monster I fear. While your Lady in the Woods seems to embody the best of what we knew as the Green Men, at their worst they were monstrous. I will not claim to know which side is correct, but be cautious of that certainty sir knight. The worst acts of humanity were committed by those that KNEW they were in the right."
>>
>>48576458
It'll be weird to have someone fight in the way of the fists that isn't us. Maybe she will become a desciple of Master Asia?

As an aside though, I realized something. A good tradition in ship building is to name the ship after something important, usually something important to the captain. Considering Fairchild's ship, I have this one question; What was our mother's name?
>>
>>48576458

The character she's based on is a magus, but you're not entirely wrong. There was a better option for that, though, and I took it.
>>
>>48576551

Do avalonians have a pro wrestling circuit?
>>
>>48576534
We can't rename the Rhinehawk we have too much history with it
>>
>>48576534

Julia Maesa, like Cincinnatus, is an actual figure from Roman history. All Wels-classes are named after famous non-Emperor Romans, with the exception of the first Wels ever made, the Jaburo. Julia Maesa (I used the proper Roman spelling of Iulia, pronounced Yulia) was a rather interesting woman who did a number of interesting things.
>>
>>48576534

Oh, also, her name was Christina LeChance Starwind.
>>
>>48576564
Knights and nobles probably wrestle each other for martial training and contests
>>
...Now I would feel slightly sad that I did not actually make Countess Kennedy a pure brawler since people are excited by that, but there was someone who was much, much better as a pure brawler, and I didn't want to decrease his impact by having other Paladins ape his style.
>>
>>48576534
I dont think military captains name the ships they get stationed to anyway.
>>
>>48576564
Somewhere, in the deep corners of the colonized universe, lays a planet full of wrestlers. Descended from the four kings, Hogan, Savage, Warrior, and the Undertaker, they vie for power in the ultimate wrestlemania. Never leaving the cage surrounding their world, for their escape would herald a dark age of war for the rest of humanity.
>>
>>48576635
Do what you think is right, while it would be cool for her to be pure brawl if its going to ruin the hype of the other one then don't
>>
>>48576664
>Undertaker
>Not Flair

Come on anon you can do better
>>
>>48576635

it's cool, wong. Its just that we were expecting her namesake to be a wrestler but a hybrid would be cool to fight as well.
>>
You know this because you have plenty of time to observe her through the viewports on your way to the mechbay, where Karen is doing some last-minute touches on your Knuckle Kaiser.

Despite the damage Rashad inflicted with his Khanda Custom on Mars, the Kaiser is in remarkably good shape. The left-side shield and the Kaiser's chest look like they've each eaten a blast from some titanic shotgun (-1 SP to each), but you're familiar enough with your ride to recognize cosmetic damage when you see it, and most of the small scratches and pitting caused by Rashad's mech self-destructing with your fist practically buried in its cockpit are just that. The torso armor can even still open and close to let you into the cockpit smoothly.

You're about to release the electromagnets in your boots and kick off the ground to reach your machine when you feel a tug on the arm of your stark white pilot suit.

It's Samantha, her eyes downcast and her voice even softer than usual, "Wait a moment, there is something I need to tell you."

She takes a deep breath before continuing, "Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a bride, of being swept off my feet by some handsome prince who would love me the way I always wanted. For one reason or another, I never thought it would actually happen." Her small fingers tighten on your elbow, "But it did. Now that I know you're...you're really willing to...to marry someone like me..." Her face turns steadily more red, "I can't give you up. Not just for my sake, but for everyone you'd leave behind if you died." Her expression firms up, her dark lips setting into a small, hard line, "So I'm going too. I'm going to protect my husband no matter what. She won't even see me, and I won't interfere, I'm good at staying out of the way and observing. I'll only get involved if she's about to kill you."

"I can't allow that." You don't have to think about it for long.

"But why!?" Her pale green eyes are large and moist as she holds on to your arm.

"You know I have to do it alone. How would you feel if I interfered in one of your duels?" It's easy to tow her along in the direction of the Knuckle Kaiser, she isn't exactly an imposing person.

"No you don't! You're a pirate, you don't have to do this kind of thing!" She futilely digs her heels in, but the smooth bay floor denies her shoes any purchase.

"It's precisely because I'm me that I have to do this. I'm not part of the military's hierarchy, the only person who ever promoted me was my Captain. These people follow me because of my deeds, and those deeds include fighting enemy aces in single combat. That's what I'm best at. I'm not the smartest pirate there is, Samantha, I'm not the most diplomatic either, but I am good at fighting, so that's what I have to do. If I show too much reliance on my subordinate Captains, one of them might very well be justified in trying to take over one day."

"Rosita and Yoritomo would never do that!" She protests.

"No, but what about the other two? What about the ones who join in the future? For most of the Kestrels out there, the new ones, this is their first time seeing what I'm about. Do you want me to look like a phony?" You're unrelenting.

"I'd rather have a live phony than a dead hero!" She yells, tears in her eyes.

A wrench lightly bonks her right on her frilly headband. "You're being selfish. Stop it." For once, Karen isn't smiling. More roughly than you would, she hauls her sworn sister off of you, "Can't you just believe in him one more time?"

"E tu, Karen?" Samantha gives her friend a furious glare.

Karen, unruffled, glares back, "How do you expect him to fight all-out if he knows his life isn't on the line? The Countess is going to fight like some kind of cornered animal because she's staring down potential death, don't take that edge away from Roarke because you're scared. Besides, you're not just doubting his skill, you're doubting MINE, and my machine! How do you think I feel about that, huh?"

Samantha's slender shoulders droop, tears trickling down her cheeks, "I...I'm sorry...I didn't mean to."

You put your hands on her shoulders, running them up the sides of her neck and along her jaws, wiping her tears away with your gloved thumbs, "I'm not going to die, I swear. Not with your tea waiting for me when I get back."

"ALSO you're wrong about the Red Menace and Captain Oda. Oda joined Roarke because Roarke challenged him to a one-on-one duel for leadership of their combined forces. He may be silly, and a little crazy, but he's a pirate captain too. As for Red...well, there's a lot of bad things I could say about her, but she likes his strength too. Otherwise she'd just take over the Kestrels and keep Roarke on a leash like one of her pets. Only he might not escape into the woods like her tiger did." Karen pats Samantha again, "Just get used to it. 'sides, nobody gets to launch out of my mech bay without MY permission, and you don't have it. Of course, you could maybe rip your way through the hull if you had the right tools, but I don't see any of the warheads that could do it on the S-Betta, now do I?"

You decide to settle the argument completely. You lean down and kiss Samantha until her legs go wobbly and she stops trying to protest. She looks a little dazed when you finally let go, "That should last until I get back. Take care of each other!" You turn with a wave, deactivate your suit's electromagnets, and kick your way up to the hatch of the Kaiser.

Samantha presses a hand to her forehead, "What am I supposed to do now? This is the only way I know how to look out for him..."

Karen sympathetically pats her friend's shoulder, "We'll do what I do every time he goes out there. We'll watch, wave, and see him make it home safely."

"Hypocrite." The Europan aristocrat sniffles, "You took a Harpy that one time."

"I did. And you were on your way to interfere with his fight on Mars, only he won too quickly. I'm a hypocrite, yeah, but I'm a hypocrite in good company." Karen grins, patting her friend's back.

Samantha giggles a little, "Alright. So, which of the viewports do you think he'll be able to see us from?"

Karen nods solemnly, "At last, sense. Don't worry, I had one picked out as soon as we boarded this dinky little thing."

You're completely spared from the estrogen-laced friendship, secure in the belly of a near-sixty-ton mechanical monster that clomps its way onto the catapult.

"Admiral Roarke Starwind, Knuckle Kaiser, launching!" You call out over the loudspeakers, and you hear Karen's cheerful voice reply.

"Confirmed! All systems green!" Lightning crackles along the metal rails of the catapult as the spaceside seal opens, and you're hurled into space like a missile. Ahead of you, the Avalonian ship floats like an elegantly constructed jousting lance made of half-melted wax, it's more crippled than you thought.

Well.. I stand by my opinion of getting armored cockpits since we use primary and secondary sensors anyways.
>>
>>48577519
Is that in the Atm?
>>
>>48577550
Yup. Under the cockpit stuff. Costs nothing, but requires the use of sensors to see shit.. which we have. To get a cockpit hit, it would require going through the armor on the chest. Get something like command armor and it will likely count both. Of course, I am sure there are ways to give the cockpit kills somehow. That way we don't die even if stabbed. Of course, with our full luck and maneuver, we could simply put some extra luck in if there is a gap of 5 in our dodge roll.
>>
>>48577599
>>48577519
wait.... so we haven't got that since day one?!
we need to install it ASAP
>>
So, today I learned that Brigada Ligeria Estelar is a thing. anyone else heard of this?
>>
>>48577626
We might have it. The way Wong explains the chest design sounds similar to it. Locks, armor plates and the like. So for all intents we may have it. The thing is, our armor is around 7 SP right now. It'll eat a sword or axe, but anything with AP or a beam saber with 4 kills of damage will go through it.

It's anti scrub, but.. thats about it. Getting some layers of defense may be a good idea once we see the Knuckle Kaiser Kai.
>>
>>48577711
Whats it about?
>>
>>48577719
A reactive shield could be a good idea since it only stops working if a weapon goes about its sp and if we go for the heaviest one then it has to be over 15 kills

To your surprise, your comms crackle to life, an outraged and accented voice filling your ears, "Is this a joke!? Are you trying to taunt me!? Where are your weapons, you saucy knave! I know you solar aborigines, I have faced you before. Look, I even took one of your fancy plasma blades from a commanding officer of the Gas Knights of Jupitair. Go back and get your arms, toot sweet!" She points imperiously at the transport, even the body language of the Anseis conveying her eminent displeasure.

"They're already attached to my shoulders, mon petit cherrypie." Or was it 'mon petit sherry'? You aren't really that familiar with the phrase.

"Bufon! Rapscallion! No more jokes! Belegor is a freak monstrueux, but you are just a naughty boy with the swollen ego! How dare you mock me even more than you already have!? Non, if you hoped I would be gentle and take pity, you will be mistaken!" Her blue-and-gold mech with its construction reminescent of a knight in a battledress, complete with a visor-like face, has a shield as large as yours but shaped in an ornately sculpted and colored way, displaying the image of a goose surrounded by a ring of stars and holding a sword in its webbed foot. In her other hand, she has an elongated cylinder about as long as her mech's arm...a bit too long to be a regular plasma sword, and a bit too short to be a lance. Other than that, it appears unarmed, unless the crest of metallic drills at the back of its head are some kind of weapon. Two are hanging limp and seem damaged, but four are still moving faintly in counterpoint to the movements of her mech.

However, she attacks you with neither. Instead, she runs along the spine of her ship and launches herself into space towards you, tucking her mech's knees in close and going into a spin.

>>
>>48577769
It might, but it is also incredibly expensive. Likewise, assuming it can stop anything is a bad idea. a 8 kill weapon with disruption can get past it, and it's CP cost will be substantial. We may have to go with a multilayer systems. Reactive shields, command armor, reqular armor, and keeping our MV penalties low. Because bits are not counted for the mech itself, we could simply use them to bolster our attack power and reinforce our body.

Oh, and also, you've solidly won initiative. You're two hundred meters from her. You could dropkick her, and still have an action left to punch her twice or grapple a limb.

You could also use grapple-chan to pin one of her limbs, because she seems intent on getting to you rather than trying to kite and thus she's going to close the distance anyway. If so, which limb? If you fail, you can spend your other action on a second attempt, and if you succeed you can dropkick her or attempt to drag her in.

Both have upsides and downsides.

Poe unrelated.

>>
>>48578009
We must put a weapon in our face. That way we can pin both our opponents arms and attack at the same time.

>>48578084

Not by mechanics. We'd just see our shield drop by 1 point depending on the level of that attack. It won't outright kill the shield.

She's trying to use your own move. On you. You can see the kick coming, and that it's faster than a normal charge, and where most pilots wouldn't be able to, you react.

Your grappling harpoon hisses through space as soon as she begins her somersaulting attack. To her credit, she flares the thrusters beneath her mech's skirt and lifts right out of its arc of fire. You allow yourself a grin, she's made the same mistake the First Mate did on Auditorium. You yank your arm back, and as your grappling drone rebounds towards her you realize that her mech moves a lot more easily than his does. Too late.

She comes out of her somersault into a spin that lifts her thruster skirt high, and casually smacks your grappling harpoon away without looking as her mech's foot lashes out in a vicious flying roundhouse at the Kaiser. Too bad, you still know that move. What you didn't expect was that your Target Analyzer would be taking so long. Normally, it's incredibly quick to scan an enemy mech, but this time it keeps encountering errors. If you didn't know better, you would think it was damaged.

However, some parts it can scan just fine. Especially those simple enough or similar enough to Solar System make to be in its computerized brain.

Double-Ended Plasma Sabre: WA +1, 8K (only 2K of structure), EMW (treats SP as 4 less than usual), Quick, 14 CP, 8 Spaces, 1 ton

Large Shield: DA 0, SP 12, 18 CP, 1 Space (Forearm-Mounted), 6 tons

The wrist holding her weapon spins in a continuous rotation that would be impossible for a human being, turning her weapon into a rotor of golden plasma death

You barely avoid having your left arm sheared off entirely, only one end hits it (-1 SP, -5Kills) before you pull back.

"Did that hurt, mon duckling? Oh, your Countess knows. Do not fret, soon it shall sting much worse, you cannot imagine my ire at this...this insubordination!"

You still have initiative, of course, so it's your turn to attack and you're at melee distance. Before asking for d10s, I'll let you guys get a consensus on what you're doing and how, whether it's punching or grappling, and most importantly whether you spend luck on it. With your maneuver pool, you have 11 points total.

Also a particularly witty one-liner always adds 1K of damage.

>>48578792
doesn't it also have a nasty penalty to hit? Assuming she can parry with her shield, thats two chances to dodge it. We want to throw as many dice as possible at her and hope we break her arm.
>>

Scanners are apparently xenophobic.

Pls, Wong. We scanned experimental weapons before so it's a good guess the scanner doesn't work on just a database of known armaments. Scanner should do math and figure out her armour strength from the thickness of her metal and the atomic composition. It's not called ADVANCED without a reason. Same deal with the components on her weapons.

>>
>>48578833

Calm down, the scanner is doing its best. Despite the incredibly foreign make of the Anseis, it's managing to piece together a lot of its information and is gradually getting it to you.

Also, technically most of the experiental weapons you've scanned are technologies that were previously in the Rhinehawk's computers and were patched into the Kaiser's TA by Karen. For instance, plasma weapons and stealth mecha. I believe with the former, Mohammed found the first one on Suleiman, and the S-Betta has been in the Rhinehawk's systems long enough for Oda to make stealth mecha of his own. Reactive shields were first encountered when Doctor Clancy handed over the blueprints of the S-Tarrasque. Am I missing anything?

>>48579409
both in person and while piloting the Kaiser people find us most "disarming"
>>
>>48579409
In hindsight, yes. Given no knowledge, I'd rather go for the disarm.

What worries me is that, so far, just fucking punching things repeatedly has been effective enough that we default to it instantly without considering any alternatives. We've basically given up the main advantage that specializing in Mecha Fighting, which is the ability to fuck with enemies' tactics. Instead, we may as well have made a character who uses Mecha Melee to wield a fuckhuge armor-piercing sword.

What do we even have Grapple-chan for, if not to immobilize enemy limbs while both of ours remain free to attack?
>>
>>48579521
Usually our opponents don't charge us right off the bat.

Also, now grapple chan has an upgrade that allows for, what, 3 kilometer range at only -2?
>>
>>48579521
Its the same issue with many systems when it comes to fancy tactics. They usually have a penalty to them(and for a d10, a -2 is a nasty penalty.) and alternative solutions just flat out deal with the problem. It takes us two actions to disarm? She needs one to pick it back up.

In a way, the system forces you slowly to either big numbers or a lot of small numbers and unless Fatima or Marie give us a means to use the moves at par,, they are simply a worse choice compared to just punching them.

Same goes for dismantle. It's great if you're huge and the enemy is small, but thats it.
>>
>>48579521
Just punching shit has thus far proven to be the fastest and easiest way to deal with everything and grapple-chan is there for when fuckers dont want to get into grapple range.

'Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?' Queen echoes through your cockpit. Warning lights are flashing, the structural integrity of the Kaiser's left arm is severely compromised. You don't let it phase you. The drills on the Kaiser's knuckles whir as you jab at her and she moves out of the way, right into your right cross. She catches it, just barely, on her shield...but the drills leave a deep quadruple-gouge in it like the pawprint of some giant beast (-1 SP to her shield). You slam your right fist into her shield and dig deeper, trying and failing to overpower her. (another -1 SP to her shield, it's now at 10 SP)

'Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality'

Your Target Analyzer doesn't give up, measuring the pressure put out by her machine and how readily the metal buckles under the weight of your blows. Despite its relatively skinny frame and easy handling, according to the scanner it's both naturally heavier and better-armored than your mech.

Light Heavy Torso: C/S/K 14, 7 tons
Light Heavy Head: C/S/K 7, 3.5 tons
Light Heavy Left Arm: C/S/K 8, 3.5 tons
Left Hand: 2 CP, 1 Space, 1 Kill, 0.5 tons
Light Heavy Right Arm: C/S/K 8, 3.5 tons
Right Hand: 2 CP, 1 Space, 1 Kill, 0.5 tons
Light Heavy Left Leg: C/S/K 8, 3.5 tons
Light Heavy Right Leg: C/S/K 8, 3.5 tons

Armor: Knight's Medium Weight (8 SP, 12 CP, 4.0 tons) on all locations, does not ablate from damage caused by attacks dealing less than 4 Kills

'Open your eyes...' You see the Anseis' armored head turn towards where you're battering its shield, and then you take your gamble.

'Look up to the skies, and see...'

"Funny, I never took you for an S. I always took you for more the sort of secret damsel-in-distress fetishist for how easily you fell for my trap, the kind that likes being tied up in a cell. Do you whip all of your knights, or am I just special enough to get a licking?"

>>
'I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy.' Freddie Mercury, that majestic prince of the stars, tries to warn her from across the gulf of space and time.

She's focusing on your shield and what you just said, and not on your damaged arm, which would normally be viewed as less of a threat. However, even damaged, the Kaiser is sturdy. Even against a larger mech, your blows are viciously powerful. Even with the armor buckled and torn and components beneath sparking, you crunch her right shoulder with one blow, and buckle the inside of the elbow so hard with a backhand that the drills stick out the other side of the metal elbow-cap and it bends backwards as you yank your hand away.

'Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high, little low...' Freddie chides her.

"You're not the first one to find me disarming. There's this very funny story about a charming reporter who was so overwhelmed she..." You prattle on over the Countess' outraged squealing. She tries to move the Anseis' right arm, but it just shakes, just a twisted piece of metal now. Her saber floats out of her nonresponsive fingers.

"You...you. Rowarc! I am NOT forgiving you! You are straining my affections most sorely. How dare you, a mere brigand, force me to resort to ze full power of my Paladin." The Anseis snaps its remaining fingers, "DANCE, MON DRILL BITS!"

The four active drills on its head, abruptly...detach. Each one has a small thruster pad at its base, and whirls in silent menace.

'Any way the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me...to me..' Freddie croons sadly. Is he betraying you as the winds of the fight shift direction?

Your Target Analyzer, though, bravely records despite your shock, politely informing you of the danger these drills represent.

Drill Bits: WA -1, 6K, AP, 5 Spaces, 5 CP, 3 tons.
>>
>>48579930
I would disagree. In most cases where an opponent has only one apparent weapon, X rounds of an opponent at full combat potential will expose us to more risk than X+1 rounds where that same opponent is deprived that weapon.

While it is possible that she would have a backup weapon, I do not believe anyone would charge into battle and draw their secondary weapon first. And even if they do, we can probably just grab that too.
>>
>>48579967

However, her arm also has SP, and even after being halved that's 1K getting through, then 2K, versus Beta Medium Heavy armor.
>>
>>48579995
Well we need to figure out how shes controlling these bits, she has to have the system somewhere on her mech
>>
>>48579995
Drill Bits: WA -1, 6K, AP, 5 Spaces, 5 CP, 3 tons.
Shit does she have 4 of these things interlinked? We gotta punch her head in boys first boys. Lower her WA even more. Unless the drill bits have no ap? If so then we can destroy them with one hit each. We need a Kaiser grin if we want to survive. Or we gotta go for torso.
>>
>>48580057
First bet is the head, or maybe something on the back.

also... having encountered bits... perhaps the upgrade we get from the countess is the flying fists we've discussed previously
>>
>>48580057
most obvious choice would be the head where they dock to her mech
>>
>>48580057
Just punch off her main sensor suite and she'll take a -2 penalty, right? That would be -3 to hit with each drill.
>>
>>48579995
To be absolutely clear, do they simply constitute weapons, rather than possibly-linked, possibly-low-MV RC Drones? Because the latter would be significantly more terrifying.

>>
>>48580057

>>48580092
targetting weapons tend to be at a -2 if I recall. Maybe more, and linked hits wouldn't do much. We would need to succeed each hit in a row to destroy every bit, including her parries. If it's in her head, two blows are all we need.

Destroy her head. Then start talking to her to tell her to surrender. Some shit about how she shouldn't force us to attack her torso with lethal intent. Let's hope the controls are in her head. If it isn't then she loses WA on her drill bits anyway. If it is then she won't be able to control it.
>>
>>48580135
>their MV is the same as the host mech.
That's surprising. Is this by virtue of their construction, or her mech's low MV? Given that each Drone is constructed as its own mech, I find it hard to imagine that a 3-ton Drone has the MV of any Light Heavy.

It's also saying they're contained within what it WANTS to classify as Pods (meaning no Kills of their own, all damage is dealt directly to the drill) with thrusters attached. Combined with your ASP's readings, the Target Analyzer highlights a spot on the back of the head from which the drills are being controlled.

You're familiar with a mech remote-controlling another mech, you've used a jury-rigged version of it yourself...but never more than one major drone at once, and it couldn't move while it was doing it. The Anseis seems to be moving perfectly well, covering itself with its shield and grabbing its beam saber in its undamaged left arm before flaring its thrusters and zipping 250m away from you, "Remove his arms and legs!" The drills descend on you. They don't just plummet as they surround you, they zip at you like hungry eels, simultaneously and with purpose.

You ignite thrusters and burn void, zipping around as they dart behind you. You dodge the endless rainstorm of blows, two scoring your shields (now reduced to 10 SP and 11 SP respectively) and a third stabbing the Kaiser's left thigh (-1 SP, -3K for 4K remaining).

Still, you haven't been destroyed, and for that, you're extremely grateful.

"OHOHOHOHOHO! Dance for me, Rowarc! Dance like the bandit you are!"

>>48580669
>>48580672

I don't understand you people at all. Why grapple her? It literally has no effect since she's using REMOTE CONTROLLED weapons to attack. Just fucking punch her head and destroy it. Wong already said thats where the controls are.
>>

>>

>The Anseis seems to be moving perfectly well, covering itself with its shield and grabbing its beam saber in its undamaged left arm
yes, that beam saber
>>
>>48580678
that's a beautiful mental image
>>
At this point I am thinking about how feasible it would be to get another set of arms with extendo-fists for range fights.
>>
>>48580628
grapple left arm, dop kick her in the head
>>
>>48580690
Why punch her head either? It moves us into beam saber range which she has a +15 to hit us with. THAT is the thing we need to worry about. No, let her gloat and smash two of her drills. Limit her attacks so she doesn't do a lot of damage to us and force her to come at us.

Those drills won't have parries to them so if they fail their dodge they are done.
>>
>>48580690
So she doesnt cut our face off with her beam saber when we close the distance.
>>
>>48580628
You know, considering just how far above us she thinks she is, even taking into account her already damaged mech, she isn't doing as well as she thinks she is. Why do people overestimate themselves like this? We're probably still going to end up losing, but even if we do we still win. She can't kill us, or she'll die, she doesn't get to keep her ship either way. She isn't looking at the big picture, either.
>>
>>48580690
so that she has to disentangle the sword arm before attempting to use the saber on us, since we will be floating right next to her as we rip off her goddamn head
>>
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT DROP KICKS AUTOMATICALLY HIT THE TORSO AND CANNOT BE AIMED!
>>
>>48580719
Drill bit has 6k, attacks at +13 but has 8 chances to attack us. That overwhelms the sabre by a ridiculous amount.
>>
>>48580791
Well its still better than not dropkicking.
>>
Let's put it to a loose vote.

Attack her directly this turn, or attack her drills?
>>
>>48580815
Attack her directly get rid of that head and the drills won't be a problem
>>
>>48580791
Then no going to her. 3 shots and hoping our two punches get past her dodges and parries is not worth it right now. Break her weak drills. Let her gloat and waste her turn. Do not engage her unless you want to take 4 hits with that 8 kill beam saber.

>>48580801
So destroy the drills. They only have the dodge and one hit WILL destroy them. They will still folow us and then we will face 8 attacks anyways. One 4 of them will be beam saber.
>>
>>48580815

Attack her directly, aim for control unit
>>
>>48580815
Fuck her up.
>>
>>48580815
attack her drills
>>
>>48580815
Attack her directly, we've taken a lot of damage already, and if we deal with her drill bits, we still gotta deal with her beam saber.
>>
>>48580815
DRILLS! Destroy the drills! She will have to move in to use the beam saber and the drills will follow us. We will have more chances to hit the drills than to safely hit her head or arm!
>>
>>48580815
as nice as it would be to have an intact unit to study, it might be smarter to take care of her drills first.
so yeah, target drills
>>
>>48580855
She can dropkick us and use beamsaber just like we can dropkick her and use punches. It would be smarter to move full distance away. If she doesn't follow she can't hit us at all with any movement amount that turn, and drill bits don't have a dropkick equivalent and these ones only move as fast as she does which is as fast as we do, right? Easy.
>>
>>48580815
Attack the drills. We have 8 rolls to destroy 4 drills. That means we have 4 chances to get a Kaiser Grin off if we crit on them. Then if we have left over AP can we ready an attack for when she closes in? Or should we back off a few meters so she has to waste two turns to run at us.
>>
>>48580855
hell, let me put it in simple terms. She has a 15 to hit us with that beam saber and if we move in first she can hit us 4 times. The drills can then move in to hit us once each at 13. The drills will do much, MUCH less damage than the beam saber. We will be taking 8 hits either way if we fuck up, but 13s are easier to handle than 15s.
>>
>>48580881
Our Torso is heavy enough to survive a drop kick. It's better to use that action running away to instead kill the drills.
>>
>>48580890
We can only take out a max of two each turn though. And thats if we do nothing but attack.
>>
>>48580881

Why wouldn't she follow?

Also, this feels like fighting a Gelgoog fused with a Qubeley, only I'm pretty sure the Kaiser could tank a Qubeley's funnels with their little beam guns.
>>
>>48580815
drills. that way we can fuck her up and not worry about the drills.
>>
>>48580917
And? That takes away 4 of her attacks for the round. If she is going to gloat, let her. If she comes at us again, we can destroy her OTHER arm. Do not let her get a ful round with that beam saber.
>>
>>48580914
>instead of running away and letting her gloat and completely negating her opportunities to close in and hit us with a drop kick AND her beamsaber we should sit here and try punching things that could also be temporarily avoided

Okay.
>>
>>48580917

Not true. You have two actions with a Quick weapon, so a total of four attack rolls.
>>
>>48580902
Nigga are you dumb?
Two +15 is so much easier to beat than eight +13. Beam sabre has 8k damage, thats 16k max. Drills has 6k damage, thats 48k damage.
>>
>>48580945

Why wouldn't she pursue you and maintain dropkick distance?
>>
>>48580925
>Why wouldn't she follow?
Taunting and ojou laughing presumably.
>>
>>48580935
So she still has 4 attacks left over, plus a drop kick and two attacks from her beam saber if she feels like it.
>>48580950
Do they not have to be aimed at the same target?
>>
>>48580952
Her weapon is a QUICK weapon. Thats 4 attacks. Also, those drills can move and have two acts each. So they can still do one attack and hit us. Remember, bits can follow.
>>
>>48580968

I looked it up just to be sure, apparently they don't.

Also, your current luck count is 9.
>>
>>48580968
the drop kick goes for the chest. And would be closer. We can then remove her other arm and er head that way. In this case, we have a higher chance of success, only have to deal with a total of 7 hits for the drill option, as opposed to 8 with the drop kick option.

>>48581027
And if this is true, then our quick attacks can easily destroy all 4 of her bits in one turn if we roll well. Remember, they do not have shields so a 1 on their dodge will likely end them.

"It looks like I have plenty of partners to choose from." You snatch at the annoying little things. At least they're a melee weapon. Granted, that makes them more dangerous, they can actually aim properly and they're designed to pierce armor, but if you had to chase after little beam cannons that would be extremely annoying. You catch two of them at once, and crunch them in the chainsaws lining your palms.

"Sacre bleu...it is indeed much like Belegor, but...EEEEE!" She shrieks suddenly, and thanks to the mental connection between her and her mech you see the Anseis JUMP as your visor pops open as you toss the shattered, golden drills away, "Non...you are Floyd Beck? Th...the one who struck the Lady down from the skies!? Non! You are dead! You are LONG dead, everyone says so! This...this must be some kind of a trick, you made yours look like his to...to frighten poor me. You bastard!" She was thrown off balance and unable to coordinate with her drones, and they swooped in first.

You dodge them, deftly weaving through the air as she soars after you on an intercept course. She tries to kick you in the back, but misses, and only one of her drills even needs you to lift your shields (10 SP for both shields now).

Now for an important question, do you want to put 5 luck into that 5 to make it a 10 and score a hit? Unless she rolls a 10 to parry, which I'll do after you decide, you'll definitely hit her in the head. If she does roll a 10, though, you're down 5 luck and facing eight incoming attacks.

'Mama, just killed a man...' She may have been behind you, but as you spin around in midflight your mecha are momentarily chest-to-chest, sparks rising off where the metal meets just a tiny bit and trailing behind you along with the glow of your blue-green thruster trail and her golden aura. You swing your elbow at her head, and she cuts her speed just a fraction to avoid it.

'Put a gun against his head...' You pull up into her path, punching straight down with your left towards the crown of the Anseis' head, but with a twirl of her skirts she slides past the blow,

'Pulled my trigger...' You put more juice into the left-leg thrusters and try to hammer her with your right cross as she comes up, but she lightly taps the rim of the Anseis' shield on the Kaiser's chest and shoves off it.

'Now he's dead...' Freddie predicts. Time almost seems to slow as she raises her sole remaining arm over her head, the golden blades poised to cut directly down the middle of the Kaiser's body. At your shoulders, you can feel the strangely mobile drones she commands moving in.

"You are good, duckling. I should be so enraged, no? Yet this has been a pleasure, I respect your skills. You, you are the last noble barbarian chief, fighting with the weapons primitive against those who were simply...luckier than him, I suppose. This Anseis was crafted by the Lady's hand, your...how do you say...box of bolts? Bucket of rusty bolts? Your rustyboltbucket has done gallantly, but it has done all it can."

'Mama, life had just begun...' But the song isn't over yet. It almost feels like you're moving slowly, in a dream. She should have moved out of the way, and reflexively, she does...but your movement is timed perfectly with hers. The movement feels so light, a simple palmstrike with your injured mech's left arm. It's only as the Kaiser's palm touches the chin of the Anseis you realize that the grinders have halted.

You see a white boulder, on a field of grass.

Rolled 5, 3, 5, 3 = 16 (4d10)

It feels like plucking a dandelion. The smallest iota of pressure, and then a bit of give. The recoil travels up the arm of the Knuckle Kaiser, amplified by the damage it's taken, you can feel it rattle through the HMIS, a strangely resonant vibration that etches itself into your brain.

The severed head of the Anseis floats uselessly in space. You realize, instinctively, there is no way you simply pushed it off its neck, but there it is. Perhaps it had taken some other damage...although you're sure your Target Analyzer would have seen it...but it looks as if it's just cleanly sheared off at the neck. The two remaining drill bits drift too, slowly winding to a stop.

The Countess is absolutely wordless, but so far she has been a professional fighter to the very end. With perfect form, she brings her beamsaber down towards you, spinning up into the same whirlwind of death as before.

It's no use. You can see every move coming, and with her primary sensors gone she's clumsier than before. Your mech moves in perfect synch with hers, avoiding every blow, then coming in close, chest to chest once again. You shake your grappling harpoon, and it snakes out just far enough to wrap around her remaining wrist, pinioning her weapon and shield by pulling them straight out to the side, your palms touching. For a moment, it looks like you're performing a classical dance of some sort together...and then the souped-up pistons of your undamaged right arm fire up and you tear her left arm off at the shoulder with what would be an ungodly howl of torn metal in an atmosphere environment.

"Am I still so primitive, Loriette?" You ask, without judgment or even teasing.

"Monsieur Starwind..." She breathes, then calls out loudly, "I yield! While I can still direct my Anseis to walk into a bay."

"You don't need to walk." You scoop her mech up princess-style.

"Monsieur, please, be a gentleman and return me to the bay on my own ship. My staff, they are the ones who know how to repair the Anseis, and we will all be within your grasp on your...harlot colony." Her voice is soft and breathy, and you wonder how she would look right now over vidcomms, "I...I am a Paladin of Avalon, to be so defeated it...it has never happened to me before."

"It isn't my harlot colony." You decide to indulge her, carrying her back to her ship's bay.

"Monsieur Admiral Starwind, please may a squad of my knights retrieve my missing...erm...bits?" The Anseis kicks its legs in a maidenly fashion as the Kaiser carries it to the bay doors of the Avalonian vessel.

"Oui." You permit it, again. "They know what will happen if they try anything."

"Of course they do! They would not dishonor ME with treachery!" Her voice is indignantly strident as you get the Anseis inside and a squad of smaller, blue mecha with a similar color scheme to the Anseis' march past to gather the various shattered parts and drills of the Countess' machine.

You have chosen to stay with her for a while. Which, frankly, is what most of your people expected by this point.

You also beat the EXTRA BOSS for this stage, and so when the Kaiser is repaired, it will be in its mid-season upgrade form.

There will definitely be some breather sessions after this.

>>
>>48582245

>>
>>48582230

Yes. Getting her bonus is significantly more complicated and optional and just sleeping with her won't do it for a very long time. There were a number of small decisions you could have made that would have led to fighting her later if at all, or fighting her in Martian orbit and being interrupted by SOUL.

>>48582242

Pretty solidly. Her mech was bigger than yours, lighter than yours, had more attacks than yours, and she has an 18 in Mecha Melee and Mecha Fighting.
