You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

"OH HELL NO." You bark the moment you hear about the possibility of Vahlen getting her creepy fingers onto yet another Abyssal. Your Outburst immediately grabs the attention of the British shipgirls, who all look at you curiously.

"Hoel, manners." Portland mutters as she jabs you in the side with her elbow.

"Is there a problem?" Dorsetshire asks, more curious than accusing.

"Hoel has had... an unpleasant experience with our Science Division." The Captain quickly jumps in to defuse the situation and shoots you a warning glare before turning back to Dorsetshire. "I'll make sure the specimen is properly disposed of."

"Our thanks." Dorsetshire nods politely. "Now, about our planned raid, you said something about obtaining additional reinforcements?"

"I can't promise much, as our resources are spread thin escorting Pacific convoys, but we do have a specialist unit in the area just coming off from another mission." The Captain explains. "Three submarine shipgirls and one 'special asset'. Originally they were slated to be sent back to the Pacific, but I think I can route them here for a few days..."

"Any extra help would be appreciated." You shrug. "Even if it's coming from some subs."

"That would be a great relief to us." Dorsteshire smiles. "We have a few Astute-class submarines to help patrol our waters, but they're terribly overworked."

"I think we can get them down here inside a day." The Captain nods. "In the meantime, I suggest you all make preparations for offensive operations. I won't pretend to know how you Falklands girls handle it, but I hope you can help out ours.

"Oh, that's no problem at all, Captain." Dorsetshire takes a sip of her tea. "You've shipped in enough supplies to keep the both of our fleets quite well stocked for the time being."

"Then I'll leave you all to it." The Captain nods as he stands up from his chair, gives a polite salute to the gathered shipgirls, and marches off.

"Such a dashing young man!" Exeter snickers as she gently prods Dorsetshire's side. "Perhaps you should ask him out?"

"Don't joke about something like that." Dorsetshire sighs in exasperation, as if this sort of teasing was common from Exeter. "Besides, I thought your type didn't approve of such relationships?"

"I only advocate sex after marriage and only for the purposes of procreation!" Exeter giggles, obviously not being very serious about what she says.

"You're rather odd for a nun..." White Plains frowns.

"I'm not a nun, I just like dressing as one!" Exeter winks while Dorsetshire facepalms in the background.

"B-besides, I think you'd be violating all s-sorts of regulations!" Victorious adds in, still sweating rather profusely.

"Yeah, well, you better back off." You grin playfully as you lean back in your chair. "Someone else has got her anchor on him."

"Oh my~." Exeter giggles while Dorsetshire pretends not to look interested.

"R-really?!" Victorious sweats a bit more. "Who?!"

"Hmmm, well, Enterprise and Iowa immediately spring to mind!" Exeter chuckles.

"You shouldn't start rumors like that." Dorsetshire tuts. "It'll set a bad example for Achilles and Ajax."

"Oh, I'm sure they'd be able to tell when it's serious or not!" Exeter assures her.

As if on cue, there's a loud cry from the field as Wren, Luce, and Daly cling to Ajax's arms and legs as she tries to slog her way to endzone with the football in her clutches. Achilles was sword dueling with Kidd for... some reason. You're not too sure why but you're probably sure it wasn't all that important in the big scheme of things. Johnston, Heerman, and Haida cheered on from the sidelines with varying levels of enthusiasm.

"Yes, I'm absolutely sure." Dorsetshire sighs at the sight and checks her watch. "Oh dear, it'll be sundown soon. Perhaps we should pack this up..."

"How about you show us your armory? My Rig got a little banged up on the way here so I thought it could use a bit of a tune up." You mention.

"Hmmm, not a bad idea." Dorsetshire sets her cup down and stands up. "Exeter, I can trust you to handle the cleanup?"

"Of course, you go do what you have to." Exeter smiles politely. "Victorious, why don't you go along with them? You've been complaining how your planes haven't been quite as responsive lately."

"W-well, actually..." Victorious stammers.

"Come along now." Dorsetshire pats Victorious on the shoulder as she walks past, which seems to seal Victorious' fate as the carrier sighs and follows suit.

"Oh, oh! I want to see what kind of EWAR equipment they have!" Anna bounces up and down excitedly.

"I think I need my Rig checked out, too." Portland nods. "Those Abyssals put a few rounds into my superstructure."

"Lewd." You chuckle.

"Shut up." Portland groans.

"I'll keep an eye on the others for you." San Diego smiles as she watches the destroyers and other light cruisers continue to tussle on the field.

"I'm actually a bit curious what kind of planes they keep here." White Plains stands up.

"Maybe I should go with you all-" San Francisco starts to get up until she's gently but sternly pushed back down by Exeter.

"Oh no, I think you should stay a while longer." Exeter says with a smile that was just a bit too wide. "It's quite rude not to drink the tea your host brews."

"Sorry, Tea is not really my thi-" San Francisco pauses, or rather is stopped, mid sentence by Exeter's cheerful glare.

"Perhaps you should finish. Your. Tea."

"Y-yes ma'am." San Francisco squeaks.

Well, just like Exeter says, San Fran should finish her goddamn tea and like it. You give her a little farewell wave as you all leave, and San Fran shoots you a poisonous glare as if you were the ultimate traitor.

But that moment doesn't last long, as soon enough all of you are marching off following Dorsetshire's lead. All of you make some small talk on the way there, mostly just gleaning further technical details on each others' specs and what kind of modern pop culture stuff you were all catching up on. Apparently, the British girls here couldn't get enough this show called Doctor Who or something like that. Maybe you'd get around to giving that a try once you got through your own endless backlog.

Finally, you all arrive at the Falklands Base armory. It's a bit shabbier than Shen's place back in Pearl. It looked to be more of a repurposed warehouse rather than an actual military facility, but you suppose it had to be built in a bit of a hurry, so it was understandable.

"And here is the Workshop." Dorsetshire motions to the building. "This is where all of our Rig maintenance and upgrades are handled!"

And that's when the big warehouse doors slowly but steadily slide open, revealing a rather small and old man in a lab coat. He squints as eyes adjust to the fading sunlight, and for a second you think you're looking at Shen.

"Ah, so these are our new guests?" The man shuffles forward to get a better look at you all, with that classic look of utter scientific fascination. "Welcome to my humble little workshop! I'm Qyburn, but you may just call me Q if you prefer! Please do come in. You're all free to look, but ask before you touch!"

"Thank you, sir." Portland smiles as she and the rest of the girls file into the Workshop. Almost immediately, Anna and White Plains dash off to the section storing all of the carrier Rigs and gear, with a reluctant Victorious in tow. Portland migrates towards the maintenance area, where again she's locked in what was probably a REALLY boring conversation. You look around a bit more and see lots of destroyer parts and gear laying around in one section. And down at the far end, you could see another area under rather heavy guard. Was that where they were keeping the captured Wa-class?

You saunter over to the sectionw here all of the destroyer gear is being kept. You could see all manner of parts and gadgets, ranging from replacement gun turrets and radar masts to entire pre-built hull sections for quick replacement of damaged Rigs. However, besides just the replacement and maintenance parts, you could see quite a few more.. .exotic items littered about, as well. Fancy shit like modern missiles and other such things, kind of like back in Shen's armory.

"Ah, do you like what you see?" Qyburn smiles as he shuffes up behind you. "Shen has told me all about the little troublemaker you are!"

"You know Shen?" You blink in surprise.

"Why of course!" Qyburn chortles. "The both of us used to be colleagues, after all! But alas, when the war started, we each returned to our respective motherlands to assist the war effort. However, the both of us do coordinate special projects from time to time. Do you think he managed to miniaturize that modern radar of yours all by himself?"

"That' kinda what I assumed." You shrug.

"Ah, typical Americans, always taking the credit." Qyburn shakes his head with a smile. "However, Shen has been sending be quite regular updates on your and your fellow shipgirls' conditions, and we both have concluded that you're all overdue for additional refits, what with all of the combat you girls have seen since Midway. And I daresay that you'll need them in the battle to come!"

"Upgrades!?" You eyes light up. "SHOW ME."

FIREPOWER

Mark 45 5"/54 Gun: A direct replacement for your current Mark 12 5"/38 guns, the Mark 45 cannon boasts improved fire rate, range, and penetration.

Harpoon Launcher: Replaces your torpedo launcher with a 4-tube missile launcher loaded with AGM-84 Harpoon antiship missiles, giving you range unmatched by any torpedo.

Mark 48 Torpedo Launcher: Replaces your current Mk14 torpedoes with the more modern Mk48 ADCAP torpedoes, increasing anti-submarine and anti-ship capability

DEFENSE

Phalanx CIWS: Adds a rapid fire 20mm vulcan cannon capable of engaging aircraft, incoming munitions, and even light surface targets at close ranges.

SeaRAM: Adds a portable missile launcher that can engage aerial targets at a much longer range and accuracy than the Phalanx, but cannot engage surface targets.

Composite Armor: Replaces your standard steel hull with high strength composites, vastly improving armor protection.

Explosive Reactive Armor: ERA blocks placed at certain critical areas of your Rig will protect from the first hit that would otherwise cause catastrophic damage.

SENSORS

AEGIS Datalink (NEW): A modern radar is fearsome on its own, but when linked to the combined arsenal of the US Navy, it is nigh unstoppable. An AEGIS Datalink allows the user to directly or indirectly control any conventional asset with a datalink. Effects with other AEGIS Datalink-capable shipgirls are currently unknown.

Countermeasures Suite: A combination of decoys, chaff launchers, and electronic warfare modules can serve to defend from a wide range of threats.

Towed Sonar Array: Replaces your current sonar with a more modern towed array that vastly improves detection of underwater threats.

Drone Launcher: Adds a small catapult that can launch up to two automated drones that can serve as additional sensor platforms and scouts.

One scenario is that Hoel gets assigned as a picket destroyer in a surface engagement against a boss character. Inidividual ship salvos may be marginal, but if every gun in the force is slaved to Hoel's fire control, we can set up something like a pakfront.

"Oh, oh, oh!" You hop up and down with glee like a kid in a candy store. "Um um um, I want that... and THAT!" You point to the first two things you see on the shelf.

"Hmmm, composite armor plating and an engine upgrade? Not bad choices." Qyburn smiles. "I daresay that the increased protection should make you proof against smaller caliber guns. However, don't go thinking that you can start shrugging off battleship cannons!"

"Don't worry, I won't!" You promise.

"Hm yes, though I do wonder how you want me to install the armor." Qyburn frowns. "We can evenly spread the armor across your entire hull for all round protection. This would manifest as extra armor plating around your body. OR, like your sister ship, we can have that armor focused on your bow, which would manifest as a combat shield. With the extra thickness and angling, I daresay that it could deflect even the heaviest of attacks! Though, of course, the shield would need to be oriented in the correct direction..."

"Erm, the all round protection sounds fine as is." You decide.

"I'll apply the upgrades right away, in addition to the upgrades the rest of your squadron will be getting." Qyburn nods. "Now if you can just summon your Rig and stand right here..."

You summon your Rig and stand right where Qyburn tells you to stand. You see him pull down a long chain from the ceiling, which he uses to hook on to your Rig.

"All right, now detach it." He instructs further.

You follow his directions and shrug off your Rig like a backpack, leaving your Rig suspended in the air, hanging by the chain similar to how Shen stored and serviced Rigs back at Pearl.

"We'll put a rush job on it. Hopefully we can get all of your refits done by tomorrow." Qyburn sighs. "In the meantime, I cannot stress how important it is not to summon your Rig until we tell it's safe to."

"Yeah, I get it." You nod.

"I also suggest you get some rest." Qyburn continues. "A refit of this scope and speed... it can really, as Achilles would put it, 'take the piss out of you.'"

"I get it." You chuckle.

You meander over to the trio of carriers who are gathered around one of the many work tables, where you could see a multitude of parts and different planes scattered all over.

Of course, White Plains was utterly engrossed with the plane selections, while Anna was perusing through the electronics. Victorious meanwhile was standing between them with a bit of an awkward and nervous expression, as if she'd prefer to be somewhere else.

Funnily enough, with her standing between White Plains and Anna, you finally noticed that her general figure and body structure was almost identical to that of the two escort carriers.

Waitaminute wasn't Victorious supposed to be a full size carrier?

"It sounds like you want to come along, too?" You grin.

"Ah, um, well..." Anna hesitates, but finally gathers up the nerve as she balls up her fists. So cute. "Yeah! Let's go!"

"Might as well tag along and see what happens." White Plains shrugs.

"Well come on!" You laugh as you lead the carriers out of the Workshop. "I know just the place!"

The four of you head to the little shoreline hangout spot that San Fran had previously staked out. There, you see the cooler she had left was still there, not having been noticed by anybody due to the relatively remote location.

"How did you know about this?" White Plains asks curiously.

"Oh, well, I just happened across San Fran here. So you know that the good stuff is in there!" You laugh.

"Oh really?" White Plains casually walks over to the cooler and opens it, her eyes widened. "Wow... that's quite the selection.

"I know, right?" You grin.

"Oh! Oh! Let me see!" Anna skips over and take a peek inside the cooler as well. "Um... I don't recognize any of these brands!"

"U-um, I'm not really the drinking type, so I don't know where to start..." Vicky mumbles.

"Well, let's see..." You walk over to the cooler to dig through the contents.

"I'll just take this." White Plains snatches a bottle of expensive vodka out of the cooler. Odd, you never really took White Plains for a vodka person. "I guess you can handle the rest."

Heh, yeah. You look into the cooler and marvel at just how San Fran was able to cram just about a little of everything in there. Now you just had to pick what to serve...

However, you did feel that something was different. Your mouth, throat, and stomach felt like they had caught fire, and suddenly you feel extremely dizzy...
