Twitter: http://twitter.com/BlorpQuest

You are Urist Twelfthbay, and you are a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. You're pretty much the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress, with all the baggage that accompanies that horrific little title: you can bend reality's elbow behind its back, in exchange for being glitchy and prone to intricately simulated injuries.

Lately, you feel like you've constantly been on the verge of a particularly destructive tantrum, because you never signed up for all this insane potentially-world-ending-events bullshit and you're at your wits' end.

Seriously, the return of the dark goddess Arfoire would've been bad enough on its own. Same with accidentally getting banished to the hyperdimensional void, along with an uncertain number of other nation-less adventurers and/or personifications. And there was that time you accidentally swapped bodies with a divine being, which really scrapes the bottom of the fucking barrel when it comes to digging out depraved plot hooks.

ALL of that happened pretty much in sequence, and now, you're staring at the unnaturally powered-up form of CPU Black Heart. She's being puppeted by a fake Histoire, and they all want nothing more than to grab a great big fistful of your entrails and decorate their houses with 'em.

If Gamindustri was a dwarven fortress, this situation would be like... if its only manager/bookkeeper/broker suddenly turns out to be a demon, which immediately proceeds to transform a load-bearing noble into a megabeast that you can't kill because the entire fucking fortress would devolve into the sort of tantrum spiral that atom smashes its weapon lords, floods the surface world with magma, and deconstructs every piece of furniture in sight.

You have a mini-fortress under your feet, though it's just a long tunnel you plowed through the pavement from the Planeptune Basilicom. You don't think it will be very much help.

Right now, the only OTHER thing standing between you and a painful death is CPU Purple Heart. To beat a dead analogy to death, she's another load-bearing noble, and it turns out all /her/ equipment is made of iron (while CPU Black Heart's is all steel).

You can barely keep up with their movements, let alone the damn anime-style fighting. All you can make out is high-speed insanity as the goddesses flit around in dazzling displays of light and motion, two vaguely girl-shaped blurs rebounding against each others' swords as they try to fucking fancy-spin each other to death. Even so, you've kinda got a handle on CPU Purple Heart's style, and you don't know how much longer she can hold on for.

Good thing that big sis Estelle's approaching fast.

Coming in from distant Leanbox, the Dragon Warrior's rainbow bridge arcs across the sky like someone's painting it onto reality in one long, broad stroke that's rapidly accelerating. According to Therapist, she's got Rokko with her. Any other day, that'd be a fighting force strong enough to beat anything this shitty universe throws at you, but you're... not so sure, given this particularly shitty situation.

Next to you, Iffy curses under her breath, pulling out those weird punching daggers of hers. She looks around desperately, torn between conflicting duties: on one hand, Neptune's one misstep away from getting gutted by Noire. And on the other hand, those few civilians who haven't (wisely) started running are just starting to scream in horrified fear, and the building closest to the Planeptune Basilicom is looking considerably more like a perforated beehive.

"Look, just- go help Neptune! We're out of time!" she yells to you, running off to get civilian evacuation kicked into high gear.

You close your eyes, seeing with your mind. Right- they're in range of your little Therapist messaging system. You've gotta update Estelle and Rokko on the situation and point them toward the largest threat, because they're coming in hot.

I've been waiting for this, Lord Green-Blorp, God of all things Backlog.

Gentelman! BEHOLD!

For I have achived Write-in, and not only concluded WHAT to do, but HOW TO do it!

>[] Write-in: Keikaku

The Plan:

1. Distract NEO-Blackheart (Deck her in the schnozz) Everyone, excluding Nepnep and Urist

2. Fudge up Book Birtch to stop Share-Inflow (whoever is left available)

3. Summon Sharacite-Gate to have an Empty Vessel for Shares (Urist's Job)

4. Make the Nep read details about NEO-Blackheart (Since she was teammember with her before) We need info on WHERE the shares are, WHAT properties they have, and HOW to move them.

5. ESSENTIAL PART:
TopNep, REWRITER of HISTORY and TIME, transferes Shares from N-BH to Sharacite-Gateway. Else Urist has to do the work.

6. Pray to Armok that we don't become the first CPU of OUR OWN Continent. Let's also hope that we don't succumb to the effects those Shares might have. Seriously, fuck Gameindustri's Moe-Bullshit, we can resist everything, Nya! ~ … What was that?

>TL;DR

>[X] Keikaku

P.S.: We don't want an Uni just yet. Corrupt Shares are not really reliable, you know? The Plan might include a certain risk, but it will be worth it. I think, fitting Music is in place, so what else but? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02nLHpSLTxo

A simple plan, fraught with so many things to run askew.
If successful, we would posses a charged Sharacite - Gate, depower Noire and a dispelled doppelgänger. But so many things to be a danger, more than probably should be faced at the moment.
Or just small things that could simply not work. But an interesting statement about putting of trying to existentializing Uni.

Also, hopefully I have cleansed my mind so far, that I won't try to emulate the Narrator of Darkest Dungeons.

Especially if it acts as a conduit.

>[X] ['HISTOIRE']

Estelle starts yelling across the telepathic link before you even manage to draw breath (and before you remember that you don't /need/ to draw breath before using Therapist, go figure). The Dragon Warrior's voice cuts through your mind like- like molten butter going through a knife; injured as you are, you nearly collapse to your knees, wincing.

>"Urist! Urist, what's going on? Planeptune started going all wobbly and started building itself!"

Oh. Yeah. You'd almost forgotten about that little bout of reality-bending bookkeeping.

>"And- is that /Noire/ down there? Why's she getting hit by lightning??"

Right. Okay. You straighten back up and give Estelle and Rokko the quickest rundown you've ever given ANYONE: Arfoire's created a fake 'Histoire' who's been pulling the wool over Noire's eyes, and when we revealed that to Noire, 'Histoire' did wacky lightning things and turned her into a mind-fucked powered-up next-gen goddess, GET 'HISTOIRE.'

Your only answer is a quick stuttered affirmative from Rokko- but up above, the rainbow suddenly pulls into a sharp angle as it turns on a fucking dime. From down on the ground, you see the silhouette of a short-haired swordswoman crouched as she rides the rainbow with her sword out, a sleekly armored form balanced next to her.

Even above the sounds of two goddesses duking it out, you start hearing something akin to a jet's engines screaming through the air, if jets had a choir of heavenly angels strapped to their sides rather than constantly exploding metal cylinders.

A computer program, however, is more like a giant house of cards made of houses of cards.
Fuck up one tiny thing and it implodes. Sometimes it's built to handle this, and gracefully folds up. Other times it seizes up and disintegrates on the spot. Most of the time it just stops acting in a predictable and desirable way. Given that DFhack has demonstrated that it can grant the ability to shit all over the laws of reality, we could easily turn our foe into something utterly impossible to fight simply because it doesn't play by any recognizable rules.

On the other hand, super-high-output machinery just tends to explode. We, and people we give a fuck about, are nearby so that's a shitty idea.

'Histoire' remains half-crumpled against the ground, looking nearly broken from where her everything ~accidentally~ walked into the business end of your warhammer- up until she hears that sound. Like some invisible puppeteer's pulling on her strings, the fake book fairy pivots unnaturally up to her feet and swivels to glare at the incoming rainbow.

"Get over here!" 'Histoire' shrieks.

Putting on an impossible burst of speed, Next Black kicks straight through CPU Purple Heart's guard before throwing herself into a fully boosted dash, invisible thrusters flaring and putting her at full speed before you can even blink-

- throwing her into an intercept course toward Estelle and Rokko, and bringing her into your sights.

You have seconds to act.

"Get them!" The fake Histoire's tiny fairy face is twisted with anger as she tries and fails to get up, her broken legs unable to support her weight and her tattered wings twitching uselessly. Even her book is falling apart, its spine broken by your weapon.

You have seconds to act, so you grab whatever's at the top of your inventory and wing it right at 'Histoire's' smug fucking face before you even begin to consider whether you /should/.

The moment the object leaves your hand, you realize that you have made a terrible mistake.

"Kill the fake adv-"

Caught up commanding Next Black, 'Histoire' never sees the Dutiful Chastity coming until it materializes right on top of her. Unfolding from a stockpile-able item to a full-fledged piece of furniture, the artifact Sharicite door frame slams into the fairy AND the pavement with enough force to embed the engraved masterwork three inches into the ground, cutting off Arfoire's creation with a wet crunch that atomizes her as per proper dwarven physics.

There's no blood, though, there's just... a rapidly evaporating puddle of unreality, some sort of glitchy substance pooling underneath the door.

You don't have time to celebrate your violent victory, because Next Black is hurtling toward the Dutiful Chastity.

For a split-second, you're terrified that Noire will go through the Sharicite door and turn your fortress into a smoldering crater. A split-second later, you realize just how naive that fear is when Noire, wreathed in the power of corrupt shares and going fast enough to fuck with sound, slams INTO the unbreakable artifact door frame with almost enough force to stop the world from turning.

That's very nearly the last damn thing you see, because you've got a front row seat to some sort of terrifying gigavolt light show with CPU Black Heart smack-dab in the middle. Wild arcs of untamed electricity lash out in every direction, shearing pavement and narrowly missing your head, and you blindly throw yourself onto your stomach- but even then, you can see Noire's slender form illuminated from within as untold amounts of divine energy flow to and from the Dutiful Chastity, and you have NO goddamn clue what is going on right now, what the everloving fuck.

"Noire!" CPU Purple Heart yells, her feet leaving the ground as she boosts toward the other goddess, her hand outstretched, and-

Silence.

Hesitantly, you raise your head back up. Dutiful Chastity is the first thing to greet your eyes; the Sharicite door is sparking wildly, glowing with some sort of inner power. You don't know if that worries you more, or the fact that Neptune and Noire are nowhere to be seen.

Before you can do anything else, you're roughly hoisted to your feet, then further UP, and shaken by a wild-eyed brunette in a trenchcoat.

"Where are they," Iffy hisses. "What did you /do/?"

You don't know! Seriously, you have no goddamn idea!

Iffy's reply is cut off by the inexplicable, distinctly depressing sound of a rainbow dissipating behind you, and then Estelle's by your side, hoisting you easily. "That's my question too!" the Dragon Warrior chirrups, putting you down with a pat on the head (which you can't help but accept with ill grace). "Buuuut we've got more important things to deal with right now."

"Like what!?" you and Iffy say at the exact same time, the both of you staring at each other before scowling and turning back to face Estelle- or rather, the Blue Bomber slowly approaching.

"S-Search and. Rescue," Rokko deadpans emotionlessly, her trademark static-y stutter slightly obscuring her words. "Ensuring t-the, safety of half of. Gamindustri's g-goddesses."

"That's right!" Estelle points her unsheathed sword at Dutiful Chastity. "We've got to follow them right on in while they're still just arrived!"

Well, it's probably fine, you growl. The only place that door leads to is your fortress in the hyperdimensional void.

IF nearly chokes. "The what in the what?" she wheezes.

... probably, you continue doubtfully, taking in the Dutiful Chastity's changed appearance. Seriously, this door shouldn't be so /big/. The electricity's died down mostly, so you reach out and poke it with a finger-

- the possible destinations unfold before you, forming as weird fuzzy corridors in your mind's eye. Right- there's the pathway that leads back to Hyperdimension. And /those/ are the pathways that lead FROM Hyperdimension to Gamindustri, leading to various locations either in or around each nation's Basilicoms. And that-

... is a shining pathway that splits off in a THIRD "direction," away from Gamindustri or Hyperdimension, seeming to lead off into fucking infinite darkness.

What the hell is /that/?

"Our call to a legendary adventure," Estelle nods sagely, before sobering up slightly. "More importantly, we really should recover the goddesses as fast as possible," the brunette continues.

'We,' huh.

"I-It is your door," Rokko shrugs.

... nngh. Fine, so it /was/ technically your fault this happened. And if the Dutiful Chastity still works as it used to, anyone who goes in there would probably need your door to get back /out/ of... wherever that new path leads to.

"Fine." Iffy takes a deep breath, massaging her temples. "... fine. You guys- I don't care which of you- go find Neptune and Noire. I need to clean up back here, and make sure that fake Histoire didn't leave any nasty surprises for us."

You look around. Sure, Nep and Noire fought for all of, like, three minutes, but this whole area in front of the Basilicom /does/ look like a damn war zone: gouges in the earth that stretch for yards, shattered windows, bashed-in building fronts, and scorch marks all over the damn place.

... oh. And weren't there two enemies who pinged Therapist a little while back? Seemed that they were searching for a way into the Planeptune Basilicom, for some reason.

First ask Blanc how the Fort holds together, and if one or both of them do not need to go back immediately to prevent worse things from happening, ask Blanc politely to help IF coordinating the aftermath, while Thraviel goes with us on the descend into darkness, so that if we land in the Dankest Dungeon we have enough backup that we do not need a requiem for our sanity in an Eternal Darkness.

>LCS was originally created as a side project by Tarn and Zach Adams (Bay 12 Games), the brothers behind Dwarf Fortress. They last updated the game in 2004; I picked the source code up in 2007, and in collaboration with more than a dozen programmers and writers from the community, we have managed to release intermittent updates since then.

>[X] [BRING SOMEONE ELSE FROM HYPERDIMENSION (to help Iffy)]
>[X] [YOU, ESTELLE, AND ROKKO]

Nngh. This IS a ridiculous amount of destruction for such a short amount of time. Looking around you, you've got the itch to start repairs immediately, along with the much more dwarven thought that you can /improve/ this place's defenses. Honestly, you'd feel a lot better with Estelle and Rokko by your side, so there's no way you're gonna leave them behind to help-

... hmm. Y'know, hold that thought.

"Wait! Where do you think you're going?" Iffy demands, narrowing her eyes.

Estelle nearly steps forward, her eyes wide. "You're not going straight in without us, are you? Aah, adventurers grow up so fast-"

Just stepping out for a minute, you reassure them, stepping through Dutiful Chastity's gaping maw before they can reply. As naturally as entering a normal door, you're right back in a dead-end corridor of your hyperdimensional fortress, Hyperdimension.

You stop to take a deep, deep breath of that warm, cozy underground air, feeling every cell in your body relaxing. Goddamn, there really is no place like home-

"Ah! Urist! Welcome home!"

If not for the great big horned helmet sitting on her head, you wouldn't have recognized Shovel Knight. Still wrapped in bandages and clad in some sort of school uniform, she seems lively enough as she trots toward you. "Well met, friend! I've not had a chance to congratulate you yet."

You stare at her, derailed from how you were about to apologize for getting her involved in all this- this fucking hyperdimensional bullshit. Congratulations for what?

"Why, for giving birth to a brand new baby, of course!" Shovel laughs, clapping you on the back. "And I see you've even regained your true form. Truly, this is a cause for celebration!"

You very nearly choke. N-No, for the love of Armok, that's not-

"... is this not a cause for celebration?" Shovel tilts her head, and you can feel the well-meaning confusion. "Forgive me, I'm not yet familiar with the customs of Gamindustri!"

Nngh. Well... no, you're pretty happy with Nepgear, she's a good girl, but you're NOT her mother. So just- l-look, save the congratulations for Neptune, okay?

"Hah, then I shall wait! But congratulations, in any case."

... nnnngh. You scratch your head, pausing when you realize how /frizzy/ it's gotten. Well, you /were/ standing at ground zero of all that electricity, so it's a miracle you haven't died. Anyway- Shovel's doing fine, is she?

"But of course!" You can't read her expression through that T-slit helm, but given her voice, Shovel almost seems insulted, and she thumps a fist against her chest. "A mere scratch like that is not nearly enough to keep me down, especially not against such foul beasts as those void-spawned creatures. No need to worry!"

... nnnnnnngh. Well, she's... she's in a good mood right now. And probably too stubborn to accept your apologies for being a damn fool and dragging her to Leanbox, where she promptly got blasted over here and nearly waifu'd by void beasts.

Besides, you're on something of a timer here, so you get straight to the point.

"Oh? Clean up, rescue, and assistance?" Surprisingly, THAT gets Shovel Knight's attention. "It would be my honor, Urist! I will go see if anyone is willing to accompany us to-"

Are you saying that our DWARFEN AS FUCK duaghteru could not protect herself? Although, it would be for the best to get some guards up and running around there from Hyperdimension. Then we can let the Doomgal out of the Cave to protect Hyperdimension. And so on, and so on.

WAIT WAIT WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT.

"Oh, that message?" Shovel tilts her head again, this time in the other direction. "Yes, it's quite strange! This is the fourth time we've heard it today-"

>Horrifying screams come from the darkness below!

"- fifth time, and Mojang has run off to check on the caves below without really explaining anything," she continues, undaunted. "Is it something to be-"

>mfw Blorp answering to my write-in, intended to use all the knowledge accumilated over multiple month to open new possiblilitys for Gameindustri to fuck over Urist, in order to see hillarious results, and the entire questing-crew agreeing to it since it's the most !!FUN!! inducing of all the options, while also supercharging the sharacite-gateway to new levels, possibly powering something connected to it, and generally murking about.

Shees, best birthday gift of them all.
Thanks mate.

God no. Nepgear is Urist's duaghter and has shown to be a violent death bringing dwarf in her own right.

That being said, her state of unconsciousness doesn't exactly allow her to use her said dwarf violence.

>Gamindustri Goddesses or Boss Bawss

...... given Boss Bawss's power set, I'm pretty sure that even if the Gamindustri goddesses win the battle, they'd lose the war somehow.

>>48664716
Yeah, she got stunned by FNAF.

And kicked Urist so hard that Neptune temporarily became the main character.

>>48664497
>>48664770
Fun fact about these two that I've probably mentioned elsewhere:

Had Urist chosen to be in Lastation in the very first thread, she would've had Lid as a big sis instead of Estelle, and learned boatloads about traps and stealth and the appreciation of fine asses- although given how MGS has been going lately, it might not have ended well.

I was thinking of using the Vocaloid character if Urist had chosen to be in Planeptune, but apparently she's not actually owned by Sega, although her games are, so her inclusion might break or bend my self-imposed rule of "no games based on non-game IPs."

>>48665069
I'll have to look into those games! (Except for LCS, since that's a little too political to be in this quest).
