Shinobi Quest #28

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, Tsuki Norihime spent a time conferring with Danzo regarding what happened on her mission. Upon the reveal of the identity of Shisui Uchiha as a member of the Akatsuki, Danzo brought Tsuki to meet with an old friend of his- the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, who had been enjoying his retirement with his family.

His request was simple- to have Tsuki and the girls reassigned to a non-Uchiha teacher. Though Tsuki understood his reasoning, she rejected it- and successfully talked Danzo down. Bidding the Third goodnight, the two returned to the Norihime manse, where Tsuki spent a bit of time considering the exams before turning in.

We rejoin Tsuki the next day- Four weeks to the day before the beginning of the chunin exams.

It’s a cool morning in Konoha- the sun shining brightly in the clear, blue sky. You walk towards the Academy with no particular haste- you suspect you’ll beat Hinata and Nori there, so there’s no need to rush. You sent out servants at dawn with a message- that Team 7 needed to meet in the academy to plan out it’s next moves. You’ve already toyed with several plans, but you need a buy in from both of them before planning can proceed.

You play absentmindedly with the Egg around your neck- you’ve noticed yourself doing that every so often, without even thinking about it. You’ve been sleeping with it on, too- you just always seem to forget to take it off. There haven’t been any more odd dreams, though, so you aren’t particularly worried.

The Academy looms over you, the building directly connected to the Hokage’s offices. It dawns on you that you haven’t been back here since you graduated- although, in your defense, you’ve been a busy girl.

Pushing gently on one of the wooden double doors, the smell of books and scrolls hits your nose- not entirely unpleasant, but distinct. Only the young woman working the front desk notices you enter, waving you in at the sight of your headband, wrapped around your arm. She seems to be the only one here; excellent.

Remember guys, go fast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfGjLIPRgDA

We need to focus on speed and Afterglow. It already puts us at Lee wiythout the weights when it's on, and a combined +1 to speed would put us on kakashi's level before we even make chunin! We GOTTA GO FAST! We even leave a goddamn blue streak behind us! We should also make some rocket boots to take it to the next level, and possibly as a cover for the blue fire from Afterglow. Say it's just the rocket exhaust.

We have the potential to be the perfect unholy combination of Sonic and Eggman!

You select a study table near the back, tucked in a hidden and out of the way corner of the academy. Taking a seat, you pull out the envelope addressed to you that Danzo had provided this morning. Inside, a letter from Minato, the Fourth, and a bank note for 200,000 Ryo.

“Thanks again for your hard work, Tsuki Norihime! Itachi had nothing but the best to say about your team’s performance, despite the obstacles in your way. Enclosed is your payment for the completion of a mission of A-Rank. Continue to work hard, and make all of us proud!”

---- Minato Uzumaki, Fourth Hokage

Tucked behind the letter is the paperwork for the Chunin exams- likely provided by Itachi’s request. You know you’ll need to fill it out and submit it with your teammates to be admitted to the exams- one of many reasons you all need to meet.

First, though, you have the money to consider. It’s a decent amount of money, although nothing compared to your family’s fortune. You don’t particularly need the money, but you can think of a few uses for it.

You…

1. Decide to keep the money. Might as well, right?
2. Put it aside for personal research and development. Can’t rely on father for everything.
3. Put it aside for Danzo and ROOT. While Danzo refuses to let you wander the facility without his guidance, you suspect that if you want to return it to working order, you’ll need some cash.
4. Start a charitable donation arm of the Norihime corporation. By participating in charitable giving, the reputation of the company will surely grow- and it’s probably the right thing to do, to boot.
5. Do something else with the money. (What?)

You decide to split the money between the facility and charitable giving. You’ll need to wait until after you’re a chunin to bring the topic up to Danzo, but hopefully that will soon be rectified. As for the future Norihime Foundation, you’ll have to bring it up with father later, though you doubt he’ll object.

A bit of time passes after you fold the envelope back inside your uniform- Hinata will likely be here shortly, but Nori might take another hour. Might as well look around at some of the knowledge within the library, right?

You…

1. Look for a book on Basic Utility Techniques
2. Look for a book on Medical Ninjutsu
3. Look for a book on Fire Techniques
4. Look for a book on Lightning Techniques.
5. Look for a book on Genjutsu.

(Because of Norihime Genius, you are able to effectively study from two books at once. Therefore, pick two to focus on.)

After browsing the library, you choose two books- a book on elementary lightning techniques, and a second book covering basic to advanced basic utility skills.

You figure these two books will give you a wide enough base of techniques for the exams- you hope.

You flip through the two tomes…

(You’ll be able to pick the “Study Books” option later on for training, to learn a technique from each book. Later on, once you’ve mastered the techniques in the Lightning tome, you can move on the a book on intermediate lightning techniques. You can pair this with the tutoring Nori option.)

After browsing for a few minutes, you hear the doors to the Academy open. Hinata enters, with Nori in in tow. The blonde girl looks like she just woke up, which is entirely likely.

You wave them over, and they sit at your table. After a bit of small talk, you get down to business.

“Alright, you two. I assume you got the paperwork with your letter this morning?” you inquire.

“Yes, my father gave it to me before I left.” Hinata reports.
“Yeah, my mom left it on my desk this morning. It’s probably in there- I didn’t read it.” Nori says with a yawn.

“...Right. Anyway, we’ll need to double down on our training before the exams start- we only have four weeks.” You say, reading off the paperwork in front of you. “We need to know a bit more about these exams- I only know the basics. Luckily, you both have a family member that took it recently. Hinata, did Neji have anything to say about it?”

“Ah, um… No, he didn’t. He really hasn’t said much to me since his exams- and his mood only seemed to worsen after his team returned from the mission from the Land of Waves. Besides, he’ll be entering again this year- with conditional advancement based upon his performance.” Hinata explains.

“Right.” Nori pipes in. “Dad only promoted my brother last time- though he told both Neji and Sai that as long as they performed well again this exam period, they’d be promoted to chunin. I did ask Naruto about the exams, and he just laughed. Said Dad keeps them somewhat fresh every year, but that he isn’t very creative. He also gave me this-”

Nori produces a small, worn novel, entitled: “Tales of a Gutsy Ninja” authored by Jiraiya the Gallant.

Wait-

“That old perv Jiraiya actually wrote a book?” You say, somewhat surprised.

“Several, actually- but I… wouldn’t read the others. This is his only serious work.” Nori says, placing the book on the table.

“Huh. Is it any good?” You ask with genuine interest.

“Well, Dad really likes it. Naruto’s even named after the hero of the tale. It didn’t sell very well, though. He never wrote another one.” Nori says, playing with her messy hair.

Probably wasn’t very good, then. You consider yourself pretty well read for a lady your age- and you had no idea this book even existed. Though, you do suspect Danzo and Father somewhat filtered your reading material.

“Well, we’ll keep it in mind, then. Now, usually there’s a written portion, a survival portion, and a tourney, right?” You ask.

“Usually. Though only the tourney part is traditional. The Fourth has more or less used the exam styles the Third used, changing very little.” Hinata says, flipping through the novel Nori brought with her.

“Well, we need to break this down, then. Assuming we make it to the tournament, our opponents will be no joke-” You start, before Nori interrupts.

“When we reach the tournament, it’s every girl for herself! Not that I don’t believe in you two- but we might just face each other, like my brother’s team did. I’m not gonna hold back, you know?” She says with a wide grin.

Right. You’ll need to add these two to the list of potential opponents, for now. Both of them are skilled, as you know, with the potential to be stronger in the coming weeks. But…

“For now, let’s focus on getting that far, ok Nori?” you say, not particularly amused by her outburst.

“Right, right, princess.” She says, sitting back down.

Don't forget we'll be up against him. When the time comes we're going to have to pound him so hard he can't walk. We'll have to dominate his team too, and possibly dozens of others with our electric touch and fiery embrace.

We should probably train stamina, our techniques are exhausting and if we want to make it to the finish and come first we'll need all the energy we can get.

Neji is a branch Hyuga and too closely related to Hanabi/Hinata to get with either. And this Sausage doesn't seem so bad. Too bad he's a clan heir. I guess Naruto could take our name, he has his mother's surname in this canon. For some reason.

“First, the written exam. I think Hinata and I will do alright- now don’t take this the wrong way, Nori, but written work was never your strong suit….” You say, patting her gently on the back.

“....You saying I’m dumb, princess?” She grumbles angrily.

You’re only telling the truth- but now is the time for diplomacy.

“Not at all! You just- might need some additional help. We want you to pass, after all!” You coo.

“Well, fine. I don’t wanna fail Dad’s stupid test, either. Mom will never let me live that one down.” she mumbles.

“Right, so I figured Hinata and I could help you study. You don’t need to ace the test, just pass. Shouldn’t be too hard, right?” you ask.

Hinata snorts- then quickly covers her mouth, embarrassed.

Nori sinks slightly lower in her chair.

“I was never the best in the written portions of those tests in school. Hinata helped me a lot, but it took a lot of studying- and I hate studying.”

Great.

“Well, we can still try. No harm in trying, right?” you enquire, somewhat worried.

“Or…. we can cheat.” Hinata says, smiling from across the table.

Surprised, you look to the young Hyuuga heiress.

“My Byakugan will be able to see everything- no Hyuuga has ever failed the written portion because of this. I probably don’t need to use it, but we definitely can use it if we need to. We’d just need to have a way to get the answers to Nori without the exam proctors noticing. We don’t want to fail because of cheating.”

She’s though that will definitely be the hardest part. You think it would be better to….

1. Help Nori learn. Better take the safe route here, she only needs to pass, after all.
2. Cheat. Nori doesn’t seem very confidant, and it would be a better use of your time if you weren’t stuck trying to teach her.

Probably best to stick with shinobi techniques, for now.

“We’ll need to figure out a technique- or combination of techniques, to get Nori the answers. Hinata, you can use your Byakugan to see everything in the room, you’ll be able to best determine the true answers.” You say.

“Right, I just need to transfer the information to her. A visual genjutsu could do the trick- though I’d still need to make eye contact with her without drawing suspicion.” She replies, thinking aloud.

“Alternatively, I could make a shadow clone, and disguise it with the transformation technique.” you say, patting the book of general use shinobi techniques.
“Oooh, I like that one. Means I don’t have to take the test at all!” Nori says, smiling.

“Right, but those do have a time limit, right?” HInata chimes in.

“Yeah, I’d need to keep it up through the entire exam. Shouldn’t be too hard, right?” you reply.

There are surely other ways, as well. While thinking, you remember Ino telling you about her family’s Mind Transfer technique- you might be able to enlist her help, with some prodding.

You…

1. Like the idea of the visual Genjutsu paired with Hinata’s Byakugan.

As you stand, the other two do as well.

“Let’s train hard everyone!” Hinata says with visible excitement.

“Yeah, let’s do this!” Nori says exuberantly.

“It’s all under control, girls! Leave it to me!” You say with a wink and a grin.

For now, though, it’s time to go visit Ino.

You head over to the Yamanaka family flower shop. It’s been a little while since you’ve seen Ino, with how busy you’ve been. Though, she’s likely been just as busy.

As you enter, a small bell announces your presence.
Ino’s mother turns and greets you.

“Ah, Tsuki-chan! It’s been ages since I’ve seen you! How are you, dear?” Mrs. Yamanaka says.

“I’ve been doing well, Mrs. Yamanaka. Is Ino home? I wanted to try and catch up with her.” you ask.

“I’m afraid not- she went out with Shikamaru and Choji, earlier. Preparing for the exam, I think.”

Darn, you’d hoped to speak to her alone- although you have a good idea where to find them.

“Ok, I’ll take a look around town. Thanks again!” you say, leaving the shop.

You take a moment to think. If Shikamaru and Ino are with Choji, they’ll likely be at a restaurant, since Choji will complain if he’s hungry.

That should make it somewhat easier to find them, if you hurry.

You walk over to where they are sitting- and when the waiter appears, you order another round for everyone- your treat.

Ino and Shikamaru are surprised- but Choji is delighted.

While Choji is in heaven, Ino turns to you.

Then we're probably going to have a sleepover in some sort of hellish nightmare land surrounded by enemy shinobi intent on hunting down and killing us. That's more than enough time for team bonding!

How about a sleepover for the night before the exams. Day of rest and all that.

You’ve heard your father pitch business deals before- this shouldn’t be any different, right?

“Very good, Shikamaru, sharp as ever. I’m actually here because I hadn’t seen Ino in a while- and because my team and I need something that you’re in a position to provide.”

“Well, I’m happy to see you too, Tsuki-hime! We’ve all been so busy lately….” she starts, before Shikamaru interrupts.

“You need our help in the exams, right?” Shikamaru says flatly.

Perceptive, as always.

“Hinata and I don’t. We are worried about Nori, however. We want to be able to make it as far as possible in the exams, and while she’s tough, Nori’s never really been the sharpest kunai in the pouch, understand?” you explain.

Ino giggles; she always did love your humor.

“Ino, you Sakura and I always studied together in school- I know how smart you are. My proposition is this: use your family’s mind transfer technique on Nori during the exams, and give her the answers.” You say, laying out the plan.

Ino’s about to say something, before Shikamaru speaks up.

“And what do we get in return, Tsuki? We’re essentially giving you a free pass to the second round, here.” Shikamaru says, leaning forward onto the table.

“Shika, let’s just help her. She’s so nice to us, and she’s Ino’s friend!” Choji says between bites.

“Right, but I’m not letting her get away with mooching off of us, either. What’s your offer, Norihime?” Shikamaru retorts.

Emphasis on the fact that, with the Hyuuga heiress, Lord Fourth's Uzumaki daughter, and our own skill at fire and lightnign Ninjutsu, we're much more of a heavy assault team, compared to their interrogation-focused team. Which, if there's ever a point where they need to fight other teams, would be incredibly useful backup to have.

You lean forward, keeping eye contact with Shikamaru.

“Choji, would you like another round after that?” You say, smiling.

Shikamaru keeps your gaze, but you can tell you’re at the advantage here.

“Oh, yes. You’re so kind, Tsuki-hime!” he says in a sing-song voice.

“I’m offering you my assistance when you’ll need it. The second round involves survival- and we have the Byakugan. It will be trivial for us to complete whatever the objective is and move on-” you start, pausing as the next round of food is delivered.

“-but do you really want to risk staying in the wilderness, with no supplies, having to sate his appetite?” You time your words carefully, so that Choji’s mouth is full- he’s too focused to take offense.

You see a bead of sweat form on Shikamaru’s head- you’ve got him.

“I’m offering you what is essentially a free pass to the third round, for your free pass to the second. It’s pretty equitable, I’d say.” you say, smile widening.

Ino chuckles, but you can tell the thought is worming it’s way through her head as well.

Shikamaru sighs.

“You’ve got me, Tsuki. Fine, we’ll help. Meet up with us before the exam, and we’ll go over the plan.”

Paydirt.

“Pleasure doing business with you, boys!” you say, rising cheerfully. You pat Choji on the head as he eats, making sure not to get any on you.

As you leave, you turn to Ino. “I really appreciate it, Ino. I might be having a get-together before the exams, I’ll let you know, alright?” You promise.

She smiles, and bids you farewell. On your way out, you pay their bill.

That went pretty well, you think. That’s one less thing to worry about, anyway.

so why are people wanting to use stellar during the chunin exams?

I thought the plan early on was to only use Stellar during secret ROOT missions so that we're not recognized?

I have been out of it for a couple threads though, but I thought Tsuki was trying to eventually do super undercover stuff like that

With that taken care of, you exit happily into the busy streets of Konoha. Your only remaining concern is training- and you’ve basically just freed your schedule for the time until the exam. As you walk back to your manse, you consider your options.

You’ll need to spend time practicing the Jutsu in the books you’ve borrowed, and since you don’t have someone to show you how each one works, it will probably take you more time to learn each one. Of course, you’ll still need to do missions here and there, but nothing overly strenuous.

(Training time, motherfuckers. Studying the books will require a week, and you’ll learn one lightning technique, and several basic techniques from the “basic techniques” tome.

As usual, you can choose to train any of your major stats as we’ve done so before- though I do recommend spending at least one week on those Jutsu techniques. You’ve reached the point in certain stats (3 and above) where training is much less effective. You can also choose to cash in that training promise that Minato owes you. I’m going to let you all brainstorm for a bit before calling a formal vote.)
>>
>>48751312

That wasn't a plan.

Just an idea people threw around.
>>
>>48751312
Nah. Stellar is too useful to be restricted. It's our ace in the exams. Then we'll start overtly using it.
>>
Speed, seals, int. and jutsu are needed. I suggest Tsuki focus on those.
>>
>>48751318
How many weeks do we have, and what is our stat spread?

I would personally vote for trying to improve our ninjutsu, speed and stamina unless those are already at 3+. If they are, then - is there a stat that specifically makes us better at handsigns? Cause handsigns are hella important.
>>
Pretty sure it'd be a good idea to at the very minimum get our STR to 2.
>>
>>48751312
I think we agreed Stellar and swords for Normal Tsuki

Fire, lightning, and summons for ROOT Tsuki

Alright how about this

Week 1:Lightning jutsu
Week 2:Physical training (Stamina/Speed)
Week 3: Basic Techniques
Week 4: Stellar training
>>
>>48751318

Just throw out a vote.

I don't wanna spend an hour throwing shit at a wall and seeing what people barely agree on.
>>
>>48751309
Also, likelyhood of nori being the carrier is low, because their mother is still alive. That might be where the trauma comes from, seeing that as a infant.
>>
>>48751312
That plan is really stupid. It's actually beter if we go public and use stellar a lot normally and then DON'T use it on secret missions. It's be like Gaara not using sand, no one would ever expect it!

The Hiraishin only lets him move faster. The comprehension speed and reflexes required to effectively operate at that speed is all him. And comprehension speed and reflexes are incredibly useful, one of the reasons the Sharingan was OP as fuck even before getting all the bullshit eyeball powers.

>>
>>48751341
If we're gonna unleash the stellar tech in the exams we don't need lightning. We need stamina, and stellar.
how about:

Week 2: speed/stamina
Week 3: steallar/general training with Danzo

I think we should do two weeks for lightning, one week for basic techniques, and one week of stellar.

>>
>>48751393
Not during the exam unless it is LITERALLY life or death.
>>
>>48751385
>>48751384
Changing to this.

Side note: we should defiantly save our minato time for after the second round. That's when we can really get some training in and know what our opponents might be, so we can plan ahead better
>>
>>48751393
Stellar when Tsuki really needs it. Try to hold out as long as possible so the others don't make up a plan to counteract it too soon.
>>
>>48751393
I dont think we should use it just because it's really destructive and we'd be using it on fellow ninja.

That kind of jutsu is something reserved to enemies only.

One last general piece of advice. There is a decent chance of your opponents being very taijutsu focused.

With the possibility of Sasuke, Nori, Hinata, Neji, Lee and Sakura present in the mix, along with the Kenjutsu proficient Sai, training your physical attributes is going to doubly important. Take that as you will.

I think Tsuki's fan needs more love and attention. It's her signature weapon. Also, good for defense and parrying.
>>
>>48751725
Anon the fan is going the way of the bow, we can keep it as a decoration though
>>

No. The Bow can a reminder that spending too thin is a bad idea. Also, there is a style of fighting with a war fan and sword.

Nah, more of trying out things and seeing what fits. It was useful when we were weaker but as we get stronger and specialise, its not as good.

Week One:

You decide that you need to shore up your physical attributes before the exam beings- and there’s one man that will train you harder than anyone else.

You find Guy-sensei in the park with his team- and every single one of them is wearing those garish green jumpsuits. Even Sasuke and Sakura.

Both of them avert their gaze as you approach, though Guy and Lee greet you with their usual enthusiasm.

“Aha! If it isn’t the young Tsuki Norihime! I must say, I’ve missed your brilliant plans on recent missions! What can Konoha’s Sublime Green Beast of Prey do for you this day?” Guy says, shooting you a strong thumbs up.

“I, uh, need to get tougher, Guy-sensei.” you mumble- as you do so, Lee’s face lights up.

“Please, Guy-sensei! Let Tsuki-hime train with us!” he says with exuberance.

“Hmmmm. Normally, I would decline, as the exams approach- however, I did tell you that I would help if you asked it of me- and I see no harm in giving you some physical training. Very well!” he exclaims.

“However! There is one condition! All students of Might Guy must dress as I do! That means-” he shouts, producing a spare jumpsuit out of seemingly nowhere- “That you must wear this!”

Oh.

Oh, please no.

Sakura and Sasuke can barely contain their laughter as you snatch the jumpsuit from him.

After changing, the exercises begin. Running, Jumping, Weight Training, Jumping rope, walking on your hands across town. It is nearly constant- and by the end of the day, you can barely move.

“Well done! However, this is only the first day! We have an entire week left! And…..” He produces weights, which he places into slots on your new jumpsuit. “...We’ve just begun!” he says with boundless energy.

This must be what hell is like.
>>
>>48751788

I will have a pic of this made.

--------------------------------------------

By the end of the seventh day, you’re nearly keeping up with Guy’s team- nearly. You’ve customized your jumpsuit with some rhinestones and other accessories, but it doesn’t help much.

You collapse at the end of the seventh day. You feel like you’ve repented for a lifetime of sin a debauchery that you’ve never even performed.

You thank Guy for his training, and make to return the jumpsuit.

“Nonsense! It is a keepsake, of our time together! Continue to wear it proudly, as a disciple, however briefly, of the school of Burning Youth!”

You just nod, and begin the crawl home. As you leave, you hear Guy continue yelling.

“Alright, you three. The warm up week is over! We return to regular training again tomorrow!”

You swear you can almost hear Lee’s cheers over Sasuke and Sakura’s groans of protest.

You just barely manage to crawl back up the mountain to return home by nightfall.

Week 2

You take a full day to recover from Guy’s training- and you use this day off to get in contact with TenTen. She agrees, and the next day you meet at dawn at the training grounds.

“Now, Tsuki-hime, pick your weapon.” She says, motioning to the veritable armory lying before you. You’re torn- you’ve dabbled in a few weapons over the last few months, but eventually settle on your War Fan and Twin Blades.

The training is intense- and though you’re using dulled blades, you’re covered in bruises at the end of every single day of practice.

“You know, Tsuki-hime, you are getting much better at this.” TenTen says with a smile.

You’re currently locked in a duel- and you’re sweating and exhausted. Tenten, though, seems perfectly content, and had decided now is the proper time for conversation.

“Th-thanks, Tenten. I wouldn’t be able to it without-” you stop speaking just in time to parry her strike.

“No thanks necessary, Tsuki-hime. I live to teach people the art of combat!” she exclaims, proceeding once again to beat you down into the dirt.

You’re pretty sure she’s claimed at least three of your outfits this week- completely and utterly unsalvageable.

But by the end of the week- you definitely feel more confident among weaponry and close combat.

Week 3

This week, you decided on something decidedly less physically demanding- you hope. You’re still covered in bruises from Tenten’s training, and your arms feel like wet noodles.

It takes three days to schedule time in with Nori’s father- and to your surprise, both Nori and Hinata are present when you arrive.

Both of them look dead tired as well- you can tell your team is taking this training as seriously as you are.

“Alright, you three! Hope you’re ready! Not everyone gets the opportunity to train with Konoha’s Yellow Flash!” Minato says, shooting you a bright smile. He’s in his combat gear today, eschewing his normal Hokage ceremonial robe and hat. His smile reminds you of Guy for some reason- and you shudder.

“Dad, please. We’ve been killing ourselves these past two weeks- let’s just get on with the training!” Nori groans.

“Now, just for that, Nori….” Minato says, his smile turning devious.

In an instant, the Hokage vanishes.

Nori just hangs her head.

A moment later, he reappears, carrying Nori’s mom, Kushina.

“You’re going to perform the training today carrying your mother!” he says, dropping the redhead into Nori’s arms.

Kushina just looks surprised- and then angry.

But before she can react, the Hokage has taken off across the rooftops of Konoha.

“Better keep up, girls!” he shouts from two roofs over.

Nori, meanwhile is struggling.

“Ugh, Mom, have you gained weight? You’re kinda heavy….” Nori complains.

You and Hinata take off running as Kushina’s rage is unleashed. You know better than to be anywhere near those two….

After a few days of attempting to keep up with the Hokage, you definitely feel lighter on your feet- and on the last day, the Fourth gathers you on the top of his offices.

“Alright, girls, we’re going to finish our lessons with an ability most shinobi know, but is important to master- the Body Flicker, or Teleportation technique! By using this, you can move in an instant across short distances, seemingly having vanished in thin air!”

“You could just teach us your Flying Thunder God technique, Dad~” Nori says, hopefully. It’s probably the only time you’ve ever seen her act like that towards her dad.

“I could teach you a lot of things- but that technique is not something we hand out to Genin six months out of the academy! Now, the basics of the Body Flicker include……”

You spend the remainder of the day learning the Body Flicker technique from the Fourth among your squadmates....

Week Four

You’ve dedicated this week to reading the material you’ve borrowed from the Academy’s library. The book of Basic Techniques covers many things you learned in the academy, and several others- specifically the basics of walking on different materials using chakra. With your high amount of chakra control, the first few tests are trivial- you find yourself standing on walls by the end of the first afternoon.

Water was a little more difficult, although you had your servants prepare the pool, instead of attempting these exercises in public. It takes most of the second day, but you feel proficient in water walking by the end of the evening.

The third day is dedicated to pouring over the tome of lightning techniques, something you’ve wanted to learn for a while. Using the dummies in the ROOT facility, you practice several attacks- specifically Lightning Release: Thunder; an attack that fires off a continuous short-range shower of electrical sparks, and Lightning Release: Lightning Strike, a bolt of lightning energy that jumps to multiple targets. As a D-rank and C-rank technique, they only take a day to become comfortable with- and another to work on stellar variants.

Stellar Thunder creates this same shower of sparks, but packed with stellar energy- they are impossibly bright, and burn on contact. While not particularly damaging, using the technique with both hands creates quite the lightshow- enough to functionally blind a target.

Stellar Lightning Strike changes the bolt of lightning energy a deep purple- and splits the energy twice many times, jumping and spitting between multiple targets.

You feel there is potentially more you can learn from this tome, but you do not have the time to practice properly.

You have two days before the exams- and while you’ve mostly recovered from your intense training, you don’t think you really have it in you for any more. You need to rest up for the exams begin…. But this will give you time to file the proper admission paperwork, and spend some time among your friends.

You’re grateful for the break.

Tsuki's doing pretty good at following the chunin motto. No weakpoints anymore, we're not going to get chumped again in a fist-fight.

When you consider that Afterglow brings our strength to 3.0 and our speed to 4.0, we've got one hell of a trump card if serious shit goes down. For reference, that's the same as Lee without the weights, and we have baler ninjutsu score ontop of that!

The pastebin has been updated! With Nori and Tsuki's stats.

Sausage and Sakura are stronger than in canon

Lee is about the same

Neji is stronger and angry

Sai is weaker, but he's younger than canon, obviously
>>
>>48752327

>sasuage stronger

With his parents still alive and itachi not having defected, won't that have made his internal motivation for getting stronger weaker? I'd actually have expected him to be abit weaker as compared to his actual canon. Since he didn't have hate just driving him on and on.
>>
>>48752327

So, we are below Sasuke and Sakura in stats?

Or just below Sasuke, Neji and Sai?
>>
>>48752327

Sand is the only major, but surrounding minor villages, such as Rain, Snow, Grass, etc are invited as per normal.
>>
>>48752336
You are roughly on par with Sasuke, Neji and Sai.

Sakura is below you, but a credible threat.
>>
>>48752336
>>48752335
>>48752324
I'd guess that we're the best ninjutsu user taking the exams in our whole village, and with the best techniques too if we include stellar.
What's really scary is that Nori has almost the same physical stats as we do in Afterglow NORMALLY. She's seriously strong and fast as fuck and it's only going to get worse.

Our hard matchups are hyuugas, Lee, and Nori. Basically anyone who can close in and wreck us in CQC, because we don't actually have any way to make distance without busting out the solar flrare and destructo disk. On the other hand, anyone who relies on ninjutsu to protect them is FUCKED, as we're probably just as good or better at ninjutsu as them in addition to stronger, faster, and with elemental advantage.
>>
>>48752377

Cool.

Is that with Stellar or without?
>>
>>48752383
Lee and Nori we should be able to find away.

Hyuugas are our hard counters, they block our points, everything goes out of the window.

>>
>>48752383
Bizzarely enough we're in a rock/paper/scissors arrangement with Gaara and Lee. Tsuki > Gaara > Lee > Tsuki.

>>48752398
Luckily Lee and Nori both aren't too bright, but not only are the Hyuugas strong, they're also too smart to trick. I honestly don't know what to do about them. We can't even sneak up on them! The only thing I can even think of is out of nowhere speed-blitz with a lightning-flow sword. If we're fast and accurate enough we win instantly, otherwise they dodge the sword and we lose instantly.

>>
Meta stuff: We might actually need to keep a eye on Negi. Now hear me out first, i'm not shipping.

In canon, Negi being defeat was a wake-up for him since he was able to leave behind his fury and hatred for the main branch since naruto did show him that even a shitstain like him was able to change and prosper. That there was a choice.

Now Naruto is fully the 4th's son, a well liked kid and not a pariah. Negi losing to him would have been seen as quite expected and would have reinforced his beliefs that everything is decided by birth.

If that belief keeps getting worse, we might be seeing a Negi betrayal arc.

Then again he does have that seal on his forehead so it might not turn out to be such a big problem to neutralise unless its taken out of play some how.

It is a powder keg though and one we might want to watch out for or stay away.
